JUST IN: Sparks Fly When RFK Jr. Is Pressed On Vaccines, Pandemic Prevention During CNN Interview — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00You have been placing nearly all the
- 0:02blame on the COVID pandemic and the way
- 0:06that the US responded to it squarely
- 0:08with Dr. Fauci. But of course, he worked
- 0:11for President Trump. Does President
- 0:13Trump also deserve some of the blame?
- 0:16>> Well, you know, President Trump, as you
- 0:18recall, wasn't into
- 0:21uh lockdowns. I think the
- 0:23the thing that did the most damage to
- 0:25our country was the lockdowns. The
- 0:27lockdowns that shut down
- 0:303.5 million businesses in our country
- 0:33with no due process, no just
- 0:34compensation. All of our churches
- 0:37closed, our schools, and our children
- 0:39are still paying the price for that.
- 0:42And yet we had the worst outcome of any
- 0:45country in the world.
- 0:47>> How so?
- 0:48>> We had the highest death rate from COVID
- 0:50of any nation on Earth.
- 0:51>> Well, let me just let me just say, cuz
- 0:52I've heard you say that before on the
- 0:54death rate from COVID, um it's not
- 0:57accurate because
- 1:00public health experts say that there is
- 1:02a combination of factors that went into
- 1:05that. Higher rates of chronic illnesses,
- 1:07which I know you would agree with, gaps
- 1:09to our health care system, and
- 1:10misinformation about vaccines.
- 1:12>> you just said what I said was
- 1:14inaccurate. What I said was accurate. We
- 1:16had the highest death rate from COVID of
- 1:18any
- 1:19>> There there are there are
- 1:20there are other countries that had
- 1:22higher but
- 1:23>> You can argue you
- 1:25about why we had that.
- 1:27But um you nobody can tell you I mean we
- 1:31have as you say we have the highest
- 1:33chronic disease burden in the world.
- 1:35And Anthony Fauci was mismanaging the
- 1:38COVID pandemic and he was doing it under
- 1:40the Biden administration. President
- 1:42Trump wanted to end the lockdowns. In a
- 1:45fact, in
- 1:46Anthony Fauci's diaries,
- 1:48he talks about how President Trump is
- 1:50calling him every day trying to get him
- 1:53to reopen the country.
- 1:54>> Yeah. Well, I
- 1:56the lockdowns were done by governors.
- 1:58I mean certainly Anthony Fauci and the
- 2:00president had opinions, but the
- 2:01lockdowns were done by governors and
- 2:03largely because and largely because
- 2:06largely because they were hearing they
- 2:08were hearing from hospitals saying that
- 2:11their ICUs were overrun and they needed
- 2:13some help while that was happening. But
- 2:15I want I want to
- 2:15>> just not true. What you're saying is not
- 2:18true. No, they were doing it because
- 2:20Anthony Fauci
- 2:21was telling them from the top you need
- 2:24to lock down. There were ICUs that were
- 2:26empty all over the country including in
- 2:28New York at the height.
- 2:30>> I I'm asking you
- 2:32I'm going to go back to what I asked you
- 2:33at the beginning.
- 2:34Which is President Trump. And he was the
- 2:38guy in charge. And he you tweeted back
- 2:41in 2024 that
- 2:44he let bureaucrats like Anthony Fauci
- 2:47shut down the entire country. Um
- 2:50Again, he the president was in charge.
- 2:52>> The president was trying to reopen the
- 2:54country when he left.
- 2:57The country was day was kept closed for
- 2:59another year almost a year and a half
- 3:01after that.
- 3:02>> Let's talk about how to prevent the next
- 3:05pandemic um because there's a lot of
- 3:07litigating and re-litigating that I
- 3:09don't think uh is really helpful to do
- 3:11uh with regard to COVID. And the
- 3:13question is about uh so-called gain of
- 3:16function.
- 3:17Which uh
- 3:18for people who aren't entirely clear
- 3:20about it, it is it is a highly risky
- 3:23research process that includes
- 3:26manipulating a virus to study how it
- 3:28behaves as it evolves.
- 3:30Now, what scientists say is that
- 3:32although it's controversial, it's
- 3:34necessary to prepare for the next
- 3:37pandemic to get ahead of it to figure
- 3:39out what these viruses can do. Um
- 3:42What you want to end this gain of
- 3:44function research. Some scientists say
- 3:47isn't it better just to put better
- 3:49guardrails around it?
- 3:52>> People have been trying to put
- 3:53guardrails around it for generations and
- 3:56it hasn't worked. And clearly, COVID-19
- 3:59pandemic and many other global pandemics
- 4:02that we have have come from, you know,
- 4:04function research. The RSV
- 4:07epidemics that we have that is the
- 4:09biggest killer of kids in this country
- 4:11today
- 4:12came from these kind of experiments. The
- 4:15Lyme disease almost certainly came from
- 4:17this kind of research.
- 4:19So, who um
- 4:21and the scientists who you say are
- 4:24experts
- 4:25are making the argument that this is
- 4:27necessary for pandemic response
- 4:30cannot point to one instance in history
- 4:33where research that came out of this
- 4:35kind of experimentation
- 4:37has actually provided us something
- 4:41beneficial.
- 4:42>> So, how do you prepare then? How do you
- 4:44prepare for the next pandemic? I mean,
- 4:46that's literally part of your job now
- 4:48because experts think it's going to
- 4:49happen within the next 10 years, again.
- 4:51>> Yeah, I mean, I think we did virtually
- 4:53everything wrong the last time.
- 4:55>> So, but what about now?
- 4:56>> The principal thing that we need to do
- 4:58is we need to listen to what's happening
- 5:00to doctors on the ground.
- 5:02There are 15 million frontline
- 5:04physicians around the world.
- 5:06They're mainly now connected through the
- 5:09internet.
- 5:10We can tell on the front lines what's
- 5:12working and what's not.
- 5:14If we had listened to those doctors
- 5:16during the COVID pandemic, we would have
- 5:18saved potentially millions of lives.
- 5:21There were therapeutics out there that
- 5:23were working. There were doctors that
- 5:25were having no deaths from COVID and
- 5:27treating in some cases thousands of
- 5:29patients. And we weren't listening to
- 5:32them. Instead, we were doing the
- 5:33opposite.
- 5:34We were shutting them down. And then,
- 5:36Dana, the other thing that I would say
- 5:39is that um we need to protect our
- 5:41constitutional rights. That that is the
- 5:44primary obligation of our country.
- 5:47>> Well, during COVID we completely
- 5:49dismantled our constitutional rights. We
- 5:51began censoring people in violation of
- 5:53the First Amendment.
- 5:54>> I'm not You're You're saying what not to
- 5:56do. I'm asking what to do. Um but I but
- 5:58I want to talk about
- 5:59>> something to do. That's That is the
- 6:01number one priority.
- 6:03We protect the Constitution.
- 6:05The Constitution was written
- 6:07>> but you're just you're talking about
- 6:08rights and I'm asking about a potential
- 6:11public health crisis
- 6:13that is that is coming. But I do want to
- 6:15Let's I
- 6:15>> And one of the mistakes we made in the
- 6:17last time
- 6:19was suppressing those rights so people
- 6:21weren't being heard.
- 6:23Doctors who were saying, "You're doing
- 6:25it wrong."
- 6:26were being marginalized and vilified and
- 6:30>> because again, I really want to move on.
- 6:33But
- 6:33>> Yeah, but you were part of the problem.
- 6:35>> Yes, I do
- 6:37I wasn't part of the problem.
- 6:38>> absolute press malpractice. You weren't
- 6:41allowing your
- 6:42>> Mr. Secretary
- 6:43>> Your job
- 6:44>> Your job
- 6:45>> is a fearless skepticism toward
- 6:47authority. And you weren't doing that.
- 6:49You were leading people toward this
- 6:52insanity.
- 6:53>> No. Okay, are you going to You want to
- 6:54sit here and attack me or do you want to
- 6:56have conversation about public health?
- 6:58>> me.
- 6:58>> I'm not attacking you. I'm asking
- 7:00questions about how to prevent the next
- 7:01pandemic.
- 7:02>> I'll tell you.
- 7:03>> That's what I'm trying to do. But I also
- 7:05don't want to use this
- 7:08interview to allow you to say things
- 7:10that aren't entirely true. You're
- 7:12talking about therapeutics, fine. It is
- 7:14also factually true that the COVID
- 7:17vaccine worked. The COVID vaccine
- 7:19prevented deaths. There is data upon
- 7:22data upon data. Let's talk about the
- 7:24measles, please, because this is
- 7:26something that is happening as as we
- 7:28speak. The cases
- 7:30>> The COVID vaccine protected children?
- 7:33>> I think that what I have to talk to
- 7:36scientists and doctors about
- 7:38>> Can you look Can you show me one study?
- 7:40>> Yes, I can.
- 7:41>> That shows that
- 7:42>> I can.
- 7:43>> children who are protected by the COVID
- 7:45vaccine.
- 7:45>> I I can tell you that there are
- 7:47>> has more good than harm to children. Can
- 7:50you show me one study that shows that?
- 7:52>> I can tell you that when it comes to the
- 7:54vaccine, there have been studies that
- 7:56show that because of vaccine
- 7:58disinformation, disinformation, there
- 8:01could have been 100 to 200,000 lives in
- 8:04the US saved. But because people didn't
- 8:07get the vaccine, that's why I'm not
- 8:09saying that it entire
- 8:10>> You are saying nonsense. You are saying
- 8:13something that you cannot show me a
- 8:15single study
- 8:16>> I am not saying nonsense.
- 8:17>> You are talking with
- 8:19>> Excuse me.
- 8:20>> Somebody told you.
- 8:20>> Excuse me.
- 8:21>> And you show show me the study. You know
- 8:24what study?
- 8:25>> No, what studies are you talking about?
- 8:26You're talking about studies that
- 8:28actually don't exist. I want to talk
- 8:30about
- 8:30>> Show me the study that you're talking
- 8:32about. You're saying you're saying the
- 8:33study. Show me the study.
- 8:36>> This is not productive. I'm not here to
- 8:38defend all of the Let me Let me finish.
- 8:40>> You're talking nonsense. You're making
- 8:41assertions you can't support. And then
- 8:43when I call you on it, you're telling me
- 8:45that I'm arguing
- 8:46>> do you want to talk about You want to
- 8:48talk about assertions that you can't
- 8:49support? I'll get there in a second.
- 8:51Let me just say, for the record, that I
- 8:54am not saying that the entire way that
- 8:56the COVID reaction was accurate. It was
- 8:59a scary time, and people made mistakes.
- 9:02Absolutely. Let me
- 9:03>> scaring people.
- 9:05>> Why are you saying that?
- 9:06>> Because that was the job of CNN.
- 9:08>> Okay.
- 9:09>> It was the thyroid.
- 9:09>> Thyroid up.
- 9:11>> But how many people are talking
- 9:12>> We were trying to
- 9:13We were listening to the leaders in this
- 9:16country, including the president who had
- 9:18a daily press conference explaining what
- 9:21was going on and trying to listen.
- 9:22>> Were you listening to the CDC
- 9:24facts? Were you reading the CDC facts
- 9:26yourself?
- 9:27>> The measles cases in the US just reached
- 9:29a 35-year high.
- 9:32The second uh
- 9:33record-breaking year in a row, 93% of
- 9:36these cases are among the unvaccinated.
- 9:39The outbreak is happening on your watch.
- 9:41And even be before becoming HHS
- 9:44Secretary, for years you have been one
- 9:46of the leading voices questioning the
- 9:48efficacy of vaccines. Do you accept some
- 9:52responsibility for this measles
- 9:53outbreak?
- 9:54>> Absolutely not.
- 9:57First of all, this is an international
- 9:58outbreak.
- 9:59So,
- 10:01and we're doing better at handling it
- 10:02than any country in the world. Mexico
- 10:05has 15 times the amount of measles per
- 10:08capita than we have.
- 10:10Canada has four times the amount of
- 10:12measles.
- 10:13England has two times the amount of
- 10:14measles. Did I cause those measles
- 10:16outbreaks?
- 10:17>> You're the most famous
- 10:18>> Did I cause 137,000
- 10:21cases?
- 10:21>> You're the most famous vaccine skeptic
- 10:23on the planet.
- 10:24>> Let me tell you because actually Anthony
- 10:26Fauci in his diaries
- 10:28answers the question about why we're
- 10:30having a measles outbreak right now.
- 10:32The reason we're having a measles
- 10:34outbreak because of the COVID lockdowns,
- 10:36because people didn't like children
- 10:38during that period did not get
- 10:40vaccinated.
- 10:41And in his diaries he says this is going
- 10:44to cause massive outbreaks of measles
- 10:47and more children. He says this are
- 10:49going to die. Let me finish cuz you
- 10:51accused me of something. Now, let me
- 10:53>> No, I didn't. I asked you a question.
- 10:55>> Yeah, let me give you the answer. He
- 10:57says in his diaries more children are
- 10:59going to die from measles because of
- 11:01these lockdowns than COVID.
- 11:04So, if you want to know in that age
- 11:06group that should have got the MMR when
- 11:09they're 18 months and didn't get it,
- 11:11they're the ones being infected. The
- 11:13people in this country, and we have
- 11:15stopped the outbreaks at record speed in
- 11:17South Carolina, in Texas, in Utah, in
- 11:20Virginia.
- 11:22We've done better than any country in
- 11:23the world. I dispatch immediately the
- 11:25epidemic intelligence services
- 11:27to those states. I get on the phone with
- 11:29the governor and we stop them in their
- 11:31tracks. Nobody else has able to do that.
- 11:33>> You have a bully pulpit.
- 11:33>> Let me tell you just one one last thing.
- 11:36>> Go ahead.
- 11:37>> The
- 11:37The communities that are suffering
- 11:40from measles are almost all religious
- 11:43communities that just don't vaccinate.
- 11:45The The Mennonites have not vaccinated
- 11:48since 1796 since Edward Jenner
- 11:51invented the smallpox vaccine. You It's
- 11:54hard to blame that. I mean, as much as
- 11:55you want to blame them.
- 11:56>> don't want to blame you. I'm asking you
- 11:58because you have a very powerful voice
- 12:00on these issues for people who are
- 12:02skeptical that Let me finish. Let me
- 12:03finish.
- 12:04>> never questioned the efficacy of the MMR
- 12:06vaccine.
- 12:07>> Okay, let me let me finish.
- 12:09>> I've questioned
- 12:09>> What I want you to do is, please, use
- 12:12your bully pulpit to right now, as we're
- 12:14getting close to back to school, say,
- 12:17are you willing to say to parents who
- 12:20have not vaccinated their kids that they
- 12:21should vaccinate their kids for measles
- 12:24because it is safe and it will help them
- 12:26save their children's lives?
- 12:28>> I I We tell people on my websites, my
- 12:31public presentations, I'll say it again
- 12:33now
- 12:33>> that people parents should get their
- 12:35children vaccinated for measles.
- 12:38A measles vaccine is effective. It It
- 12:41stops measles in about 97% of the cases.
- 12:44Uh people should get vaccinated.
- 12:46>> Can I ask you, the Wall Street Journal
- 12:48reported that the president is
- 12:49pressuring you to conduct studies
- 12:52probing the link between vaccines and
- 12:53autism. Is that true?
- 12:56>> Did you say probing the link?
- 12:58>> The what what the wall I'm just quoting
- 13:00the Wall Street Journal that they that
- 13:02the president wants you to go further to
- 13:05probe the link between autism and
- 13:07vaccines.
- 13:08>> He certainly does.
- 13:09>> Okay. Now,
- 13:12have you talked to him about medical
- 13:14research that have studied this for 25
- 13:16years and found no link between autism
- 13:19and vaccines? And and and just that this
- 13:22is my question here cuz I don't want to
- 13:23litigate that. My question is,
- 13:26why not, cuz you are HHS secretary now?
- 13:30Why not study what could cause autism,
- 13:33which scientists do believe starts with
- 13:36fetal brain development? Why not do some
- 13:39studies on that, whether there is an
- 13:41you're an environmental lawyer, whether
- 13:42there are environmental factors that go
- 13:45into contributing to a predisposed
- 13:47genetic situation?
- 13:48>> Well, let me say this first.
- 13:51We're doing all those things and that's
- 13:52one of the ways that we found Tylenol.
- 13:54There's 73 studies out there
- 13:57and link Tylenol exposure during later
- 13:59pregnancy and during the perinatal
- 14:01period to on to autism onset.
- 14:05But
- 14:06um you are wrong when you say that this
- 14:09issue has been studied.
- 14:12It has been studied and you're rolling
- 14:13your eyes saying but this
- 14:14>> I am because I I don't want I don't want
- 14:17to have you use our air to say this.
- 14:19There have been more than 40 studies
- 14:20involving 5.6 million people to conclude
- 14:24there is no link between vaccines and
- 14:26autism. This is the head of the
- 14:28committee of infectious diseases for the
- 14:30American Academy of Pediatrics.
- 14:32>> let me tell you what the Institute of
- 14:33Medicine has
- 14:35says,
- 14:36which is the National Academy of
- 14:37Sciences,
- 14:39which is the ultimate arbiter on vaccine
- 14:41safety and which it does not have an
- 14:43interest in this debate.
- 14:45It says that none of the eight vaccines
- 14:49that are administered during the first 6
- 14:51months of life
- 14:52have ever been [clears throat] studied
- 14:54for a relationship to autism. It found
- 14:56two studies, one on the DTP vaccine
- 15:00that showed that it does cause autism
- 15:03and one on the hepatitis B vaccine
- 15:06that again suggests that it does cause
- 15:08autism.
- 15:09The Institute of Medicine dismissed
- 15:11those two studies because they were
- 15:13based on CDC's database.
- 15:16The studies that you're referring to are
- 15:18all from one vaccine, MMR vaccine or one
- 15:21ingredient, thimerosal.
- 15:22>> So, so you are using you are actually
- 15:25looking at you're starting new studies
- 15:27to try to link autism, but you're also
- 15:29telling me
- 15:30>> to link autism to anything. I'm trying
- 15:32to find out why is autism going up so
- 15:35fast?
- 15:35>> to Are you also trying to find out how
- 15:38it interacts with people's DNA, what's
- 15:41predisposed to to to have an autistic
- 15:44child? Are you doing both?
- 15:46>> Yeah, but but you know, you probably
- 15:48don't understand this because you're not
- 15:50a scientist, but genes don't cause
- 15:52autism.
- 15:53>> Genes don't cause autism.
- 15:55>> genes epidemic
- 15:57>> have a vulnerability,
- 15:58but you need
- 15:59environmental
- 16:00>> that's what I'm asking. Are you studying
- 16:02the environmental factors?
- 16:03>> the different environmental exposures,
- 16:05but
- 16:06your statement, you have been fooled.
- 16:09Your statement that this has been
- 16:10studied is not true. It's categorically
- 16:13not true for
- 16:14any of this stuff.
- 16:15>> It is considered
- 16:18>> Considered by who?
- 16:19>> By every scientist who has studied this
- 16:22>> That is not true. I can give you
- 16:24hundreds of scientists who have looked
- 16:26at this and said that
- 16:27>> you are Do you understand why people
- 16:28aren't getting
- 16:29>> of Sciences. What greater authority do
- 16:32you
- 16:32>> understand why people are not getting
- 16:33measles vaccines? Cuz they're hearing
- 16:35you say that it could cause autism.
- 16:37>> to change the subject.
- 16:38>> I'm not. It's very much related.
- 16:40>> me one of the studies that's been done
- 16:42on the first eight the vaccines during
- 16:45the first 6 months of life. You will not
- 16:47find them.
- 16:48The National Academy of Sciences
- 16:49>> If that's the case, then why are you
- 16:51telling people to get the measles
- 16:52vaccine?
- 16:53>> because that is one of the vaccines that
- 16:55has been studied.
- 16:58>> Okay.
- 16:58>> It is the only one that has been
- 17:00studied.
- 17:01>> Do you want people to get the the MMR
- 17:04vaccine?
- 17:05>> Yeah, I said that already.
- 17:06>> Okay. So,
- 17:07>> I know you're flustered now, and it is
- 17:09it is
- 17:10flustered because people want an honest
- 17:13answer.
- 17:14>> I'm frustrated is because I you are the
- 17:16HHH
- 17:18you are the HHS secretary and you are
- 17:21talking about things that that that lead
- 17:24to vaccine hesitancy in this country.
- 17:28And and it is something that causes
- 17:32problems for people when there is not
- 17:34anything
- 17:35>> ask you something. Do you see your job
- 17:39as an vaccine hesitancy or do you see
- 17:41your job as telling the truth to the
- 17:43American people?
- 17:44>> I see my job as telling the truth and
- 17:46the truth is that there is is study
- 17:50after study after study. It's one of the
- 17:51most studied things out there in science
- 17:54>> it like a parrot.
- 17:56You're repeating it like a parrot.
- 17:58>> So I've actually read the science. Let's
- 18:01you and I
- 18:02come back here and debate the science.
- 18:04I'm not debating this video.
- 18:05>> Of course you are.
- 18:06>> No, cuz I'm not debating this
- 18:07>> to do is repeat things that people told
- 18:10you and say trust the experts. That's
- 18:12what you did during COVID.
- 18:15Now we know that it is Fauci who was the
- 18:17expert was lying about everything about
- 18:20mass about social distancing about
- 18:22natural immunity about the transmission
- 18:24from the vaccine
- 18:26about the source of COVID. He was lying
- 18:29and you were punishing people for not
- 18:32trusting the experts and now you're
- 18:33rolling out the experts again to talk
- 18:36about something that you have no
- 18:38personal knowledge of.
- 18:39>> Okay, well, guess what?
- 18:41That is my job to talk to people
- 18:43>> Your job is TO TELL THE TRUTH
- 18:45>> JOB YES, YES, and my job is to get as
- 18:48much information as I can and what we
- 18:50are doing What we are doing
- 18:53What we are doing in COVID and and still
- 18:58with regard to these vaccines is getting
- 18:59the best information the best science
- 19:01that we can and putting it out there.
- 19:03And sir, you what you are doing is
- 19:06causing information to be out there that
- 19:09is not accurate.
- 19:11>> Who was lying to you?
- 19:12>> National Academy of Sciences which you
- 19:13just cited in November
- 19:16said we support the statement that
- 19:18vaccines do not cause autism. This is
- 19:21the National Academy of Sciences that
- 19:23you just talked about.
- 19:24>> Look at the National Academy of Sciences
- 19:27most recent report.
- 19:28>> Okay.
- 19:29>> And you'll see
- 19:30>> I I I I want to ask you one other
- 19:31question cuz it's something that really
- 19:33did help Donald Trump get elected and
- 19:35that is the Maha movement and
- 19:37specifically the question of processed
- 19:39foods.
- 19:40>> Of what?
- 19:41>> Processed foods and the fact that people
- 19:45want to feel that their food is safe.
- 19:47My understanding is that you're pushing
- 19:48for reforms on food safety and
- 19:51ultra-processed foods that have been
- 19:52slowed and in some cases blocked by
- 19:55people in the administration who are
- 19:56working on behalf of the industry. Is
- 19:58that true?
- 20:01>> No, that is not true.
- 20:03>> So you feel that you'll be able to get
- 20:05these reforms done without any problems?
- 20:07>> I think the grass the two big reforms
- 20:10that you're probably talking about is
- 20:12ultra-processed food definition.
- 20:14>> Mhm. Exactly.
- 20:15>> And the grass standards and they've both
- 20:16gone through extensive interagency
- 20:18process. I'm very confident that we will
- 20:21get them both out there within probably
- 20:23a month.
- 20:24>> Well, I'm sorry that this
- 20:26that's good news for people who are
- 20:28burying moms
- 20:29and I'm one of them who are very worried
- 20:31about making sure that our kids eat food
- 20:33and we eat food that is that is healthy.
- 20:36I'm sorry that this turned into
- 20:39a very contentious conversation and my
- 20:43job is
- 20:44to try to get the best information out
- 20:46there and it does concern me when
- 20:50you come in and say things that have I I
- 20:54>> And you're actually
- 20:55arguing with me.
- 20:56>> Yeah, people who have science scientific
- 20:58backgrounds. And who I know have tried
- 21:01to talk to you as well. Thank you for
- 21:03coming in.
