  56. 2:22he's i don't know he went off the wagon
  57. 2:24for a little while there's got to be
  58. 2:26someone that's been sober for like
  59. 2:27a long time i don't know i don't know
  60. 2:29any of those people
  61. 2:31wendy yeah well
  62. 2:35what's going on with you oh nothing
  63. 2:39you know my life is so effing um
  64. 2:42boring actually i do kind of want your
  65. 2:45opinion on this
  66. 2:46i went for a little kayak this weekend
  67. 2:49and i wanted to get a closer look
  68. 2:53at a boat that i have a crush on
  69. 2:57okay and so i went to what kind of an
  70. 3:00odd part of the harbor where not a lot
  71. 3:02of passersby
  72. 3:04go through and so there were some people
  73. 3:06out there having cocktails on the back
  74. 3:08of their boat and you know
  75. 3:10they said hey what are you doing back
  76. 3:12here and i was like
  77. 3:14well i have a crush on that boat i'm
  78. 3:15still walking out that boat
  79. 3:17i'm checking it out and you like you
  80. 3:18know anything about it who owns it stuff
  81. 3:20like that
  82. 3:21so we're being chatty i thought
  83. 3:23everything
  84. 3:24was like great yeah no
  85. 3:28and then um as i was leaving
  86. 3:32well they kind of told me they were like
  87. 3:33okay so see you later
  88. 3:35and i was like oh oh it's like that

  90. 3:40you yeah i was like okay got it
  91. 3:43it's like by the way you started the
  92. 3:45conversation yeah but
  93. 3:47whatever and then they go okay see you
  94. 3:49later britney spears
  95. 3:51oh my goodness i think that is a total
  96. 3:54compliment by the way i was wearing that
  97. 3:57britney spears tank top that you
  98. 3:59bought me okay
  99. 4:03i mean do i take that as a compliment
  100. 4:05because i kind of thought
  101. 4:06maybe they didn't mean it as a
  102. 4:08compliment okay so i don't think they
  103. 4:10meant it as a compliment i think they're
  104. 4:12pretty much
  105. 4:12[ __ ] but that's
  106. 4:16it i was like you know what good to know
  107. 4:18because i want to
  108. 4:19if i ever do get my dream boat
  109. 4:22on one of the dock i i want cool people
  110. 4:26yeah you're not getting that slip but
  111. 4:30sometimes you got those orange county

  113. 4:34everybody that lives in california knows
  114. 4:36who i'm talking about
  115. 4:38everybody that lives in orange county
  116. 4:39knows who i'm talking about and
  117. 4:40hopefully you're not married to one of
  118. 4:42them
  119. 4:43but yeah like unfortunately they're they
  120. 4:46just
  121. 4:46they are so whatever you should have
  122. 4:49been like free britney [ __ ]
  123. 4:52yes but then i remembered i'm 43 and i
  124. 4:55thought
  125. 5:00i don't think you're 43 yet by the way
  126. 5:04almost okay no not all actually i'm so
  127. 5:06old
  128. 5:07i'm i'm so old that i forget how old i
  129. 5:10am now
  130. 5:10oh god yeah it's true
  131. 5:14okay well so anyways so then i decided
  132. 5:18to just
  133. 5:20paddle my ass back and rethink my
  134. 5:23rethink my
  135. 5:24maybe i'm just going to be working out
  136. 5:26on that tank top yeah oh
  137. 5:28i love that not as cool as i thought it
  138. 5:30was and guess what neither is my side
  139. 5:32part or my skinny jeans
  140. 5:35but i'm still going to wear them
  141. 5:38oh my goodness gracious i'm telling you
  142. 5:41i have the good
  143. 5:42jeans and it's better to wear jeans that
  144. 5:46aren't so tight anymore you know you
  145. 5:47don't have the
  146. 5:50the muffin top it's good
  147. 5:53well who are we following it's been a
  148. 5:54it's been a while since i put a pair of
  149. 5:56jeans on
  150. 5:57oh true i'm in sweats y'all
  151. 6:01okay do we have a story yeah we have a

  157. 6:24um it is 1996. i'm taking you back
  158. 6:29okay you you're graduating here from
  159. 6:31high school
  160. 6:33is that right yeah okay the summer
  161. 6:36olympics were in atlanta georgia
  162. 6:39and atlanta atlanta and you know
  163. 6:42with any olympic games comes lots of
  164. 6:45parties
  165. 6:46and celebrations lots of spectators
  166. 6:50and lots of athletes also attend all
  167. 6:53those celebrations
  168. 6:55yeah you probably also know that because
  169. 6:58you
  170. 6:58did an episode on ryan lochke
  171. 7:03remember that guy he'd like to party
  172. 7:07you did the patreon episode if anybody
  173. 7:09wants to listen to it it's a real good
  174. 7:11one
  175. 7:13go to patreon.com yes but i would like
  176. 7:17to say
  177. 7:18full disclosure yeah sure say it
  178. 7:21what he get he gets he gets a lot of
  179. 7:23flack
  180. 7:25and he still does he still does and if
  181. 7:29you're interested
  182. 7:30in hearing what i think about all that
  183. 7:33and
  184. 7:33the reason why i fell in love with him
  185. 7:35then you should listen
  186. 7:37but i don't want to sit here and make
  187. 7:39fun of him more because i think he gets
  188. 7:40enough of that
  189. 7:42i'm not making fun of him i'm just
  190. 7:44saying i'm just saying
  191. 7:45i'm not we're not even talking about him
  192. 7:48i'm just saying that
  193. 7:49he went to parties okay that's what i'm
  194. 7:52saying
  195. 7:53athletes go to parties people go to
  196. 7:55parties at the olympics it's a thing
  197. 7:58my husband wants to go to the olympics
  198. 8:00when it it's here
  199. 8:02i mean you know or anywhere he just
  200. 8:04wants to go so anyways
  201. 8:06so this was no different
  202. 8:09here in hotlanta nightly they would have
  203. 8:12concerts at the centennial park
  204. 8:16and you know who even played there in
  205. 8:18the 1996 olympics
  206. 8:20who someone we saw together
  207. 8:24kenny rogers oh
  208. 8:28crutches at kenny's last concert
  209. 8:32it was pretty magical so on july 26 1996
  210. 8:37jack mack and the heart attack were
  211. 8:39playing
  212. 8:40and thousands of people gathered to
  213. 8:43watch
  214. 8:44them do you know jack mac and the heart
  215. 8:46attack do you remember that band
  216. 8:47no me neither it was probably
  217. 8:51not kenny rogers night but people were
  218. 8:54still out there
  219. 8:54drinking beers enjoying the summer night
  220. 8:59and just having a good time i think that
  221. 9:02we would have probably been there too
  222. 9:04yeah i heard that they like hand out
  223. 9:07condoms at
  224. 9:08the the um olympic village
  225. 9:11like crazy oh i heard that too like all
  226. 9:13the athletes
  227. 9:14yeah they have like a lot of sex with
  228. 9:16each other they eat all the mcdonald's
  229. 9:18they want
  230. 9:19win medals have sex it sounds fun
  231. 9:23i mean if you're single it doesn't sound
  232. 9:25bad
  233. 9:26yeah sure yeah so
  234. 9:31do you even remember though like i feel
  235. 9:33like we've all forgotten what it's like
  236. 9:35to
  237. 9:36be out on a summer night with lots of
  238. 9:38people and drinking coolers of beer
  239. 9:40bringing your backpacks in you know all
  240. 9:42that stuff we kind of forgot because of
  241. 9:44cobid
  242. 9:46sad right girl can dream
  243. 9:49yeah hopefully soon well while all the
  244. 9:52party goers were having a great time
  245. 9:55there was a att security guard that was
  246. 10:00not having the best night of his life
  247. 10:01because he had the runs
  248. 10:04oh and when he was running
  249. 10:08to the bathroom he noticed
  250. 10:11a backpack under the bench near
  251. 10:14the lighting and sound tower
  252. 10:18he got pretty concerned he saw some kids
  253. 10:21drinking beer
  254. 10:22and then he's like that's not their
  255. 10:24backpack whose backpack is this
  256. 10:27so he goes to get somebody with more
  257. 10:30authority
  258. 10:31than him to assess the situation
  259. 10:34he finds a few gbi agents
  260. 10:38which we talked about in last week's
  261. 10:40patreon
  262. 10:41stands for georgia bureau of
  263. 10:43investigation
  264. 10:45and he insists that they go and look at
  265. 10:47this backpack
  266. 10:48the gbi they were like
  267. 10:52dude i'm sure it's a backpack of beers
  268. 10:55[Music]
  269. 10:59but this security card would not let up
  270. 11:02he had a suspicion so one of the gbi
  271. 11:06agents was like okay fine
  272. 11:08probably just to like appease him you
  273. 11:09know he's like i'll look in the backpack
  274. 11:12so he gets down he looks in the backpack
  275. 11:15and
  276. 11:16inside the backpack look like a pipe
  277. 11:19bomb
  278. 11:21so at this point [ __ ] starts getting
  279. 11:25real
  280. 11:27they start to clear the area and
  281. 11:31imagine like the band is playing people
  282. 11:33are like
  283. 11:34dancing around and yeah
  284. 11:38a couple security guards and a couple
  285. 11:40police officers and gbi
  286. 11:42are just like move up move up move up
  287. 11:43right
  288. 11:45i think some people listen some people
  289. 11:47didn't probably some people just thought
  290. 11:48they were bringing
  291. 11:50somebody through you know like i mean
  292. 11:52we've been
  293. 11:53in this situation i'm sure everybody's
  294. 11:55been in this situation
  295. 11:57nobody gets that like holy [ __ ]
  296. 12:00vibe you know especially when you're
  297. 12:02like kind of you're probably
  298. 12:04not totally sober yeah like i'm having a
  299. 12:07good time
  300. 12:08why are you trying to be a buzzkill so
  301. 12:11the att security guard
  302. 12:13that had alerted alerted the authorities
  303. 12:15his name was richard jewell
  304. 12:17and he started really running amok like
  305. 12:20all over
  306. 12:21trying to get the camera and lighting
  307. 12:23guys out the sound crew he's up there
  308. 12:25going like
  309. 12:26get out there's a bomb it's real
  310. 12:30clear the area while he is in the midst
  311. 12:35of getting everybody out of the area the
  312. 12:38bomb explodes
  313. 12:40it sends nails and metal shrapnel
  314. 12:43through the crowd
  315. 12:45and over 100 people were injured
  316. 12:50and one woman named alice hawthorne
  317. 12:55um she was 44 years old she lost her
  318. 12:58life
  319. 13:00alice actually was there with her
  320. 13:01daughter to enjoy
  321. 13:04you know all the concert goings and the
  322. 13:06olympics so
  323. 13:08it was tragic yeah
  324. 13:11and lots of people i mean you can't
  325. 13:12imagine like
  326. 13:14[ __ ] went everywhere people are on the
  327. 13:16ground
  328. 13:18it's bad so panic
  329. 13:21then ensues right it shook the 1996
  330. 13:24olympics and our country
  331. 13:26and who could have done this and why
  332. 13:29would they do this
  333. 13:31it was a big deal
  334. 13:34do you remember this at all no so
  335. 13:37i don't remember it either and i don't
  336. 13:40know if it's just because we were
  337. 13:42like teenagers and it was the summer on
  338. 13:4496
  339. 13:45yeah oh
  340. 13:48yeah i was in tijuana
  341. 13:51most of the summer of 96. so yeah
  342. 13:55um yeah
  343. 13:58i was 16.
  344. 14:03i can't even remember what i did that
  345. 14:04summer i'm sure i was like
  346. 14:06hooking up with a bunch of guys in my
  347. 14:09town i don't know who knows yeah
  348. 14:12whatever i was doing i wasn't paying
  349. 14:14attention
  350. 14:15to that i'm sure we heard about it but
  351. 14:17you know
  352. 14:19well it was a big deal
  353. 14:23to everybody else in america besides us
  354. 14:25and
  355. 14:26really this att security guard richard
  356. 14:30that insisted on looking in the backpack
  357. 14:34was here yeah
  358. 14:38and actually the backpack kind of got
  359. 14:39moved a little bit um when the
  360. 14:42i think when they secure the other
  361. 14:44officer looked into it
  362. 14:46and so it actually saved a bunch of
  363. 14:47people's lives because it turned it
  364. 14:50so that a lot of the shrapnel went up
  365. 14:52instead of out i guess
  366. 14:55but anyways this guy
  367. 14:58richard the hero of the night and
  368. 15:02the media ate it up the small town guy
  369. 15:05made national news and
  370. 15:08let me tell you about richard real quick
  371. 15:11richard was an
  372. 15:12overweight security guard who was in his
  373. 15:1530s
  374. 15:16early 30s and he lived with his mom
  375. 15:20he had a few different jobs but he
  376. 15:23really
  377. 15:23loved the like law enforcement jobs
  378. 15:26right that was like his thing
  379. 15:28he had recently worked as a campus
  380. 15:31police officer
  381. 15:32at a college um but he
  382. 15:35was forced to resign because he was a
  383. 15:37little overbearing
  384. 15:38like he wanted to arrest the kids for
  385. 15:40smoking pot
  386. 15:41you could see this kind of type um
  387. 15:45yeah yeah i know some narcs like that in
  388. 15:47in
  389. 15:48you know is that really what you're
  390. 15:49supposed to call them those people that
  391. 15:51worked at the high school
  392. 15:52some of them were like cool and some of
  393. 15:54them
  394. 15:54[Laughter]
  395. 15:56hold on five minutes later oh yeah
  396. 15:59like so you know some narcs were like
  397. 16:02you know give you like the sight i like
  398. 16:04okay and then other ones are like i'm
  399. 16:06gonna i'm gonna
  400. 16:07get this on your permanent record yeah
  401. 16:10you know we had those people in our dorm
  402. 16:14rooms that were
  403. 16:15i guess they were i forget what they're
  404. 16:17called but anyways
  405. 16:19it's like they just they get a little
  406. 16:22bit too much power and they like it
  407. 16:24yeah yeah yeah in the boating field we
  408. 16:26call it
  409. 16:27captainitis oh yeah i could see that
  410. 16:30yeah
  411. 16:32so the president of the school
  412. 16:35saw richard as real awkward and thought
  413. 16:38he was taking his job
  414. 16:39just too seriously so yeah
  415. 16:43he's a real rule follower kind of guy i
  416. 16:46also think we both have kids like this
  417. 16:49you know what i'm saying like oh my god
  418. 16:51yeah
  419. 16:52i know i do follow rules extra i have to
  420. 16:56encourage them to break them sometimes
  421. 16:57i know so richard
  422. 17:00i think didn't get the social skills
  423. 17:02class growing up
  424. 17:04like our kids so his lines were drawn
  425. 17:07and there was no room to cross them me
  426. 17:10and you
  427. 17:11i think both are not like that
  428. 17:15which is greatly not so it's yeah you
  429. 17:18know we try to teach our kids not to be
  430. 17:19like that either
  431. 17:20you gotta like you know sometimes you
  432. 17:23just gotta do what you gotta do
  433. 17:25by the way this chick at tennis really
  434. 17:28was a
  435. 17:28freaking rule follower the other day and
  436. 17:30wanted to teach me all the rules
  437. 17:32and it was just for fun it wasn't even
  438. 17:34like a
  439. 17:35usta really pissed me right off
  440. 17:39yeah that's annoying yeah i just want to
  441. 17:42have fun
  442. 17:43always so anyways richard
  443. 17:46saw that he was just doing his job
  444. 17:52but i am sure he wasn't
  445. 17:55also minding all that media attention
  446. 17:57because you know
  447. 17:59he was the hero and
  448. 18:02because it was the olympics you can only
  449. 18:04imagine how
  450. 18:05many media crews were on hand
  451. 18:09there was media from
  452. 18:12everywhere hundreds of national and
  453. 18:15local
  454. 18:15news anchors bands what have you
  455. 18:19everyone wanted a piece of this new hero
  456. 18:24even katie couric cnn the local news
  457. 18:27they all
  458. 18:28had him on tv to talk about the incident
  459. 18:31and as the world was celebrating richard
  460. 18:35the fbi was diligently working on
  461. 18:38finding out who could have caused this
  462. 18:41terrorist action
  463. 18:43they were taking calls pulling videos
  464. 18:45seeing like if they could see the face
  465. 18:47they could see somebody set down the
  466. 18:49backpack on a video
  467. 18:51but they could not make out the face
  468. 18:54they were looking for
  469. 18:55any clue they also did get a
  470. 18:58drawing from some people you know like
  471. 19:01that they
  472. 19:02said they saw the guy have a backpack
  473. 19:05but they never released it
  474. 19:08and and they were taking calls guess who
  475. 19:11called
  476. 19:12in who richard's
  477. 19:16old boss at the college calls in
  478. 19:19oh don't tell me and says
  479. 19:23i'm watching that cnn interview and i
  480. 19:25couldn't help but think
  481. 19:27that joel had something to do with it
  482. 19:31now let me tell you the cnn interview
  483. 19:35he looks awkward but the guy has
  484. 19:38never been on tv he is from
  485. 19:42georgia and
  486. 19:45it's a it's one of those interviews
  487. 19:47where he has a piece in his ear to hear
  488. 19:50what those
  489. 19:51reporters are asking him you know it
  490. 19:53wasn't like
  491. 19:54he was sitting at the seat talking to
  492. 19:55like larry king
  493. 19:57right next to you it's like he has to
  494. 19:59hear it then respond you know those
  495. 20:01always are like weird but
  496. 20:03yeah well i don't know what being from
  497. 20:04georgia has anything to do with him not
  498. 20:06being
  499. 20:07you know good on tv but show me the
  500. 20:10video because i can [ __ ]
  501. 20:12spot a liar well i'm just saying
  502. 20:15like it maybe if you were from hollywood
  503. 20:19it's different than being from somewhere
  504. 20:21that never has
  505. 20:22and now i mean everybody's on video so
  506. 20:24it doesn't matter where the heck you are
  507. 20:26from because you're
  508. 20:27like videoing yourself with your cell
  509. 20:28phone but at this time
  510. 20:31i didn't have a cell phone in 1996.
  511. 20:34and richard probably didn't even have a
  512. 20:36cell phone you know what i'm saying
  513. 20:38oh yeah they weren't popular the
  514. 20:41president of this this college says
  515. 20:46seems like maybe he planted the bomb
  516. 20:48found the bomb
  517. 20:49then became the hero
  518. 20:53the words seem pretty fitting because
  519. 20:55back in the 80s there was another
  520. 20:57olympic bomb
  521. 20:58that happened and the person that
  522. 21:00actually did it
  523. 21:02was a cop that planted it
  524. 21:05and found it and so it just seemed like
  525. 21:10maybe that's what richard did well i
  526. 21:13know that happens with um
  527. 21:16arson it's common for firefighters to
  528. 21:21start fires yeah in the forest
  529. 21:24yes yeah so the fbi saw these red flags
  530. 21:29right away
  531. 21:30i mean the guy is obsessed with law
  532. 21:33enforcement
  533. 21:34seems to be a loner okay
  534. 21:38loses his job settling for
  535. 21:42a ren-cop job and
  536. 21:45goes everywhere with his mom okay seems
  537. 21:48a little
  538. 21:49okay i'm getting this i'm getting this
  539. 21:51yeah i'm getting the spectrum
  540. 21:53okay yeah the fbi turns their attention
  541. 21:58to richard as the villain
  542. 22:01instead of the hero real quick but
  543. 22:05richard has no idea richard
  544. 22:08is like following protocol and
  545. 22:13when the fbi calls him he's like heck
  546. 22:16yeah i'm gonna help you
  547. 22:18so the day after richard was on tv the
  548. 22:21fbi says hey
  549. 22:22we're doing a training video we would
  550. 22:25love you to help
  551. 22:26us and he's like yeah
  552. 22:29i'll do it so they bring him in
  553. 22:33and they question him they say you found
  554. 22:35the bomb
  555. 22:37we need you to help us he's very
  556. 22:39cooperative
  557. 22:42anything like he's like anything so he
  558. 22:44takes this chubby little bet
  559. 22:47starts answering all their questions and
  560. 22:50then they say
  561. 22:51why don't you say this richard there's a
  562. 22:54bomb in the park
  563. 22:55you have 30 minutes so he says it
  564. 22:58and they have him say it all different
  565. 23:00ways to sunday okay
  566. 23:02it's a little given richard maybe a
  567. 23:05little like
  568. 23:07what's going on here
  569. 23:10then they bring in a waiver to have him
  570. 23:14sign his miranda rights
  571. 23:16and they say it's just for the video
  572. 23:17it's just to like
  573. 23:19it's just for this training video
  574. 23:22they try to trick him into signing his
  575. 23:24miranda rights away
  576. 23:27and he is like he pretends to sign and
  577. 23:29then he's like
  578. 23:30they're like no no richard really sign
  579. 23:32it he's like
  580. 23:34[ __ ] now which thankfully
  581. 23:39he's like has some sort of like brain in
  582. 23:42him
  583. 23:44so he quickly realizes something is up
  584. 23:46and
  585. 23:48realizes that it's not a training video
  586. 23:50that they are
  587. 23:51thinking that he's the one that planted
  588. 23:53the bomb so he does what any smart
  589. 23:56person would do
  590. 23:57and he says i want to call my attorney
  591. 24:00well richard like most people in america
  592. 24:04myself included doesn't really just have
  593. 24:06an attorney on hand that he could just
  594. 24:08you know call up right away
  595. 24:12um so he racks his brain and he
  596. 24:13remembers a guy that he worked with
  597. 24:15along the way
  598. 24:16when he was working in a mail room and
  599. 24:18this guy was an attorney and he was
  600. 24:20friendly with them so he calls the guy
  601. 24:22his name is watson bryant
  602. 24:24watson was a real estate attorney with
  603. 24:27barely a secretary so he's not like you
  604. 24:30know some bigwig
  605. 24:31the kind of attorney he needs yeah he's
  606. 24:33not the kind of attorney he needs
  607. 24:35but that's all he's got so
  608. 24:40so at the same time this interrogation
  609. 24:42is happening
  610. 24:43the media is getting wind that richard
  611. 24:45has now turned into a suspect instead of
  612. 24:48a hero
  613. 24:49a particular journalist named kathy
  614. 24:52skrug
  615. 24:53who works for the now what is called
  616. 24:55atlanta journal of constitution
  617. 24:58was the first person to leak this info
  618. 25:02this actually sounds exactly like what
  619. 25:03happened to my boy ryan lochte
  620. 25:06yeah kind of does actually so
  621. 25:09kathy was well known in law enforcement
  622. 25:12because those were the
  623. 25:13reports that she always reported on she
  624. 25:15was real cute
  625. 25:18strong and had a way with the police to
  626. 25:21get the info
  627. 25:23some people joked that that they knew
  628. 25:26when kathy really needed a story because
  629. 25:28her skirt would
  630. 25:30be a little shorter that day oh shoot
  631. 25:33kathy
  632. 25:35i think that kathy was a disco biscuit
  633. 25:39and probably worked real hard to be
  634. 25:42the first to know any situation around
  635. 25:44town and i know we do not
  636. 25:47throw that disco biscuit and we don't or
  637. 25:49maybe we're not making
  638. 25:50light we are not but listen
  639. 25:54after all this research like kathy to me
  640. 25:58she was doing her job and i do think she
  641. 26:01did her job well like i
  642. 26:03am a salesperson at heart that's what i
  643. 26:07did for a very long time and
  644. 26:12maybe if i needed to get a sale i'd wear
  645. 26:13a short skirt too i wouldn't like
  646. 26:16do anything past that and i don't think
  647. 26:18kathy did either
  648. 26:19in this movie called richard jewell that
  649. 26:21has come out from clint eastwood
  650. 26:23maybe they made it seem like kathy was
  651. 26:29given a little bit of her self to get
  652. 26:32the
  653. 26:32stories but from what i read is that is
  654. 26:35absolutely not true
  655. 26:36she just maybe flirted a little bit and
  656. 26:39i don't see anything wrong with it
  657. 26:40so okay let me just tell you yes please
  658. 26:44i would say maybe kathy's like aaron
  659. 26:47brokovich-esque
  660. 26:50talk about getting the job done with
  661. 26:52tits out in a short skirt
  662. 26:53it's possible right
  663. 26:57it's fine to me it's fine okay with it
  664. 27:00i'm with it so kathy was tipped off
  665. 27:03about richard's involvement
  666. 27:05from people that she trusted
  667. 27:08and our world trusts right i mean
  668. 27:12so the story that she wrote
  669. 27:17about the hero turning into the victim
  670. 27:20it turned richard's jewels life
  671. 27:24180 degrees in a big big way and it
  672. 27:27ruined his life
  673. 27:29that's why i think that the disco
  674. 27:31biscuit part is like hard to say
  675. 27:34but i don't think that
  676. 27:37it was meant to be like that i think
  677. 27:40that it was circumstantial
  678. 27:42that there were so many media personnel
  679. 27:44around
  680. 27:45and from there from her story
  681. 27:50thousands of people camped out
  682. 27:53in front of richard jewell's apartment
  683. 27:55that he shared with his mother
  684. 27:57to wait for something anything a glimpse
  685. 28:00of him
  686. 28:01he could not leave his house
  687. 28:06at all well didn't the media think there
  688. 28:09was anything suspicious about that i
  689. 28:11mean if he
  690. 28:12was responsible for a bombing during the
  691. 28:14olympics wouldn't he have been arrested
  692. 28:17that minute without bail
  693. 28:21well you would think but they didn't
  694. 28:23give a [ __ ] they just wanted a story
  695. 28:27yeah so watson you know his attorney
  696. 28:30although not a skilled defense attorney
  697. 28:33in domestic terrorism which
  698. 28:35they think richard is he
  699. 28:38still had that i don't take your
  700. 28:40[ __ ] attitude
  701. 28:41and that's what richard needed so
  702. 28:45watson worked real hard with richard for
  703. 28:47hours trying to figure out like how did
  704. 28:49they come up with jewel as their number
  705. 28:51one suspect and
  706. 28:54even him it wasn't hard it wasn't hard
  707. 28:57to like
  708. 28:58think that right he was the lone ranger
  709. 29:01and
  710. 29:04you know that's kind of who people think
  711. 29:08did it
  712. 29:09it's like the guy that just is by
  713. 29:10himself however
  714. 29:12watson is like listen they have
  715. 29:17they have you saying that
  716. 29:20you know there's a bomb it'll be 30
  717. 29:23minutes or whatever
  718. 29:25and so he's like if they're tagging you
  719. 29:27as the lone ranger that did this all by
  720. 29:29yourself
  721. 29:31how does that connect well
  722. 29:35what had actually happened was a call
  723. 29:37came in from a pay
  724. 29:38phone to 911
  725. 29:42at the same time that richard was
  726. 29:44finding that backpack
  727. 29:46okay and although
  728. 29:50the call came in and they said you know
  729. 29:52you have 30 minutes
  730. 29:54that was never that call was never
  731. 29:58um sent to the centennial park like it
  732. 30:00never made it there
  733. 30:03but the fbi knows it so
  734. 30:06richard was at the event the whole time
  735. 30:08how did it work
  736. 30:10so the fbi is like well maybe he had a
  737. 30:14accomplice which then throws their whole
  738. 30:18loaner theory out the window and
  739. 30:20richard's attorney watson
  740. 30:22knew that the timing didn't work out
  741. 30:25even if they thought that richard was
  742. 30:26the one that
  743. 30:27called like there was no way that the
  744. 30:29guy was running to the pay phone couple
  745. 30:30miles away
  746. 30:32making the call and then making his way
  747. 30:33back to
  748. 30:36clear out the people
  749. 30:39so even though this fbi theory is not
  750. 30:43really
  751. 30:44working out the way that they want it to
  752. 30:46they still
  753. 30:47go into richard's house and take
  754. 30:50everything
  755. 30:51everything and when it should be real
  756. 30:55easy to find out if he has a friend
  757. 30:58yeah it should be really easy sure it
  758. 31:00has a friend
  759. 31:01you'll be able to find out right away if
  760. 31:03you go through their
  761. 31:05[ __ ] that's right they did not find that
  762. 31:09richard had a friend
  763. 31:10but they did find a lot of guns
  764. 31:14like a plethora of guns
  765. 31:19i'm feeling for him i think he's guilty
  766. 31:24i'm feeling for him and i know again
  767. 31:27i know it's like dude and so it's like
  768. 31:30why do you have
  769. 31:31why do you have like 50 guns like what
  770. 31:33are you doing
  771. 31:34you live with your mom like in an
  772. 31:37apartment
  773. 31:39you don't need 50 guns how about one gun
  774. 31:41how about i don't know
  775. 31:42three guns shoot i don't know but then
  776. 31:46again i you know people in texas have a
  777. 31:49lot of guns too
  778. 31:52so okay so it was this thing he's a gun
  779. 31:55collector
  780. 31:56it was a gun collector well for 88 days
  781. 32:01richard endured the world scrutinizing
  782. 32:04his every move calling him names and
  783. 32:07thinking
  784. 32:08he killed and harmed the american people
  785. 32:11he was the butt of all the jokes on late
  786. 32:14night tv
  787. 32:16even jay leno talks smack on this chubby
  788. 32:19little guy
  789. 32:21and listen i really like jay leno
  790. 32:25but and i think he's pretty funny but
  791. 32:28i don't know if jay leno has the like i
  792. 32:30don't know if he could talk about
  793. 32:31people's looks
  794. 32:33okay well you keep calling him chubby
  795. 32:36and that's not very nice
  796. 32:38i know but he was okay is chubby not
  797. 32:42nice
  798. 32:43chubby is that nice nice chubby
  799. 32:45overweight
  800. 32:47round what do you want it depends the
  801. 32:51context that you use it
  802. 32:53but i i mean don't shame the chubby
  803. 32:56people
  804. 33:00you're like he ran his chubby ass away
  805. 33:03i'm like
  806. 33:04well i have to say it because what if
  807. 33:07i'm wrong i'm the chubby
  808. 33:09what if i was the chubby one i'm running
  809. 33:11every day and i'm chubby right now
  810. 33:13so it's okay but dude
  811. 33:17i don't care ounce does not happy
  812. 33:21i don't care if you're chubby or you're
  813. 33:22skinny okay well we're just saying
  814. 33:25we're chubby to tell you okay
  815. 33:29okay i'm just taking up for richard a
  816. 33:31little bit okay well they casted a
  817. 33:33really chubby eye for the movie
  818. 33:36so to take it up with clint eastwood
  819. 33:38okay
  820. 33:39okay now i think all
  821. 33:42would have been good if richard was
  822. 33:45actually the one that had planted the
  823. 33:47bomb
  824. 33:48but he wasn't okay they didn't find
  825. 33:52anything at all on richard
  826. 33:55and they did however take all of his
  827. 33:59family's possessions
  828. 34:00mark them up and you know bring them
  829. 34:01back like however they deemed
  830. 34:03fit which is yeah mostly
  831. 34:07not the way that they left the house you
  832. 34:09know what i'm saying
  833. 34:10yeah listen also i just uh
  834. 34:13moved three trailer fulls of stuff over
  835. 34:16to texas and
  836. 34:17this time the [ __ ] didn't come about
  837. 34:20the way it went in either unfortunately
  838. 34:25so i'm also by the way all for
  839. 34:28crucifying the actual villain
  840. 34:31yeah so had kathy been
  841. 34:34right in her report we all
  842. 34:38wouldn't have given a flying f you know
  843. 34:40what i'm saying
  844. 34:42but richard was just a normal guy
  845. 34:46trying to do the right thing and like i
  846. 34:49said
  847. 34:49after 88 days the fbi finally said
  848. 34:53he's not our suspect anymore
  849. 34:57but you know how that goes the media
  850. 34:59does not make good on that
  851. 35:01the media does not deem him a hero again
  852. 35:04and they basically just walk away
  853. 35:07without making up for their
  854. 35:11fails and
  855. 35:14yeah that's rough i do understand their
  856. 35:16position they're like in a race
  857. 35:18to get the story yeah
  858. 35:22they are but it's it's
  859. 35:25responsible not to ask a lot of
  860. 35:27questions
  861. 35:28that's right so
  862. 35:32richard although he got exonerated from
  863. 35:36the
  864. 35:36fbi's list of you know bomber suspects
  865. 35:40for the centennial bombing
  866. 35:42it did not happen in his real life he
  867. 35:45was deemed the bomber
  868. 35:46by so many people because it took
  869. 35:50the fbi years to find
  870. 35:53the guy that actually did it
  871. 35:58and not only does it take years to find
  872. 36:02this actual villain but the guy that did
  873. 36:05it
  874. 36:06bombed again and i feel like
  875. 36:09maybe if they were
  876. 36:12not putting their all their attention on
  877. 36:15richard
  878. 36:16maybe they could have like found him
  879. 36:18sooner yeah that does happen where they
  880. 36:20laser focus on someone
  881. 36:22like scott peterson and they don't pay
  882. 36:24attention to the robbery across the
  883. 36:26street
  884. 36:27yeah that that is a little bit
  885. 36:29suspicious or sus
  886. 36:30as my kids would say that's sus
  887. 36:33uh oh i like that oh yeah these new
  888. 36:36words are really fun i like them too
  889. 36:39my son's always like you're suss you're
  890. 36:40success i'm like oh what am i doing
  891. 36:42so suspicious so the person that
  892. 36:45actually
  893. 36:46planted the bomb and made that 9-1-1
  894. 36:50call
  895. 36:50which by the way that should have been
  896. 36:52their first clue and that
  897. 36:54was made known right away
  898. 36:57okay his
  899. 37:00name was or is still
  900. 37:03his name is eric rudolph
  901. 37:06eric was a 29 year old
  902. 37:10extremist originally from florida but
  903. 37:12spent most of his life in north carolina
  904. 37:16he was homophobic very political
  905. 37:19and hated abortion
  906. 37:23he wanted to wake the nation with his
  907. 37:26first olympic bombing
  908. 37:28and then he went on to make bombs that
  909. 37:31were similar to the same one that he put
  910. 37:33in that backpack
  911. 37:34uh you know can i just say this yeah i
  912. 37:37never get these like
  913. 37:38people that bomb abortion clinics or
  914. 37:40like whatever i mean
  915. 37:42like regardless of what side of the
  916. 37:44fence you're on on that can we all just
  917. 37:46like
  918. 37:46if you're so worried about life why are
  919. 37:48you killing people yeah i always think
  920. 37:50that too
  921. 37:51it's like makes no sense to me it
  922. 37:53doesn't make any sense it's like let's
  923. 37:56let's all agree that life is great you
  924. 37:58know
  925. 37:59stand outside and protest all day do
  926. 38:01whatever whatever
  927. 38:02floats your boat in regards to your
  928. 38:04strong feelings but when you kill people
  929. 38:06that's just well it just makes it
  930. 38:10makes whatever you're standing for void
  931. 38:13boyd to me also so anyways he
  932. 38:16bombs an abortion clinic twice and
  933. 38:20then he also bombs a lesbian club
  934. 38:24he was finally identified by a couple
  935. 38:27guys who saw him running away from
  936. 38:31the bombed people instead of everybody
  937. 38:34else was running to them to help them
  938. 38:36so the fbi had enough data to know that
  939. 38:40eric was their main man
  940. 38:42in like 97 98
  941. 38:45however eric was a real outdoorsman
  942. 38:49ex-military and he went on the run
  943. 38:53they thought that he was hiding in north
  944. 38:56carolina
  945. 38:56in the woods um which he was for years
  946. 39:00he spent years on the fbi's 10 most
  947. 39:03wanted
  948. 39:04list until one day he made the mistake
  949. 39:08of looking
  950. 39:09through the grocery store garbage bins
  951. 39:12that's kind of how he like
  952. 39:14he would hunt for food and [ __ ] like
  953. 39:16that um
  954. 39:18but he knew when like the grocery stores
  955. 39:19when i like throw out their goods
  956. 39:21good stuff and he would go get it
  957. 39:25and so he was not arrested until
  958. 39:302003
  959. 39:32and upon eric's arrest
  960. 39:36and all that
  961. 39:40stuff that they're going to hand him
  962. 39:43like the riot act and the death penalty
  963. 39:47he decides that he would like to take a
  964. 39:50plea deal
  965. 39:51to not get the death penalty
  966. 39:54which i think is pretty [ __ ] [ __ ]
  967. 39:57[ __ ]
  968. 39:58yeah i mean he's so quick to kill
  969. 40:03others but then we have to spare his
  970. 40:05sorry ass
  971. 40:09so he decides to plead guilty
  972. 40:13um for these four bombings
  973. 40:18and he says he did it for political
  974. 40:20reasons
  975. 40:22which i think he's the scum of the earth
  976. 40:25um he is now 54 years old and he
  977. 40:29is still in prison which he's serving
  978. 40:31four life terms for
  979. 40:33in prison wow that is bananas i mean
  980. 40:36timothy mcveigh
  981. 40:38they executed like a hot minute later
  982. 40:41i know well i think that he thought that
  983. 40:44that was gonna happen to him so he was
  984. 40:46like oh [ __ ] you know like
  985. 40:48i'll just tell you and i'll tell you the
  986. 40:51victims families
  987. 40:52and some of these um
  988. 40:55people they weren't happy about it
  989. 40:59also you know i told you that alice um
  990. 41:02was
  991. 41:02one of the people that died in the
  992. 41:04bombing in the centennial bombing there
  993. 41:05was
  994. 41:05also a cameraman that was running
  995. 41:09towards
  996. 41:09um the
  997. 41:12bomb to you know get
  998. 41:15footage and he died of a heart attack on
  999. 41:18his
1000. 41:19like on his run oh so
1001. 41:22i mean i pretty much think that that was
  1002. 41:24his fault also
1003. 41:26oh it totally is yeah you know what this
  1004. 41:29makes me think of
1005. 41:30is you know i have some strange thoughts
1006. 41:34yeah maybe i'm not alone but sometimes
  1007. 41:37when i'm on my run
1008. 41:38because i run real early in the morning
  1009. 41:41you sure do
  1010. 41:42i wonder you know because i don't move
  1011. 41:45myself
1012. 41:46you always find out that these these
1013. 41:49bodies are discovered by like
1014. 41:51runners or hikers oh yeah do you always
  1015. 41:53think you're gonna find one
  1016. 41:55yeah i do i always think i'm gonna find
1017. 41:57one and then i always think what the
1018. 41:59i my fear is that i find one
1019. 42:02and i do the wrong thing and then
1020. 42:06oh then they think it's you yes that
  1021. 42:08happens also
1022. 42:09it does happen i actually was thinking
1023. 42:13about it recently and i was like oh you
  1024. 42:15know what thank god i
1025. 42:17i track my run on my apple watch so i
  1026. 42:19can prove
1027. 42:20that i do run every day oh my god you
1028. 42:23are so it's not like unusual for me to
  1029. 42:25be there
  1030. 42:26you are hilarious okay
1031. 42:31okay so let me tell you what happened to
  1032. 42:33richard richard
1033. 42:35unfortunately passed away at the age of
  1034. 42:3844.
  1035. 42:39in 2007. he didn't did he sue and get a
  1036. 42:43lot of [ __ ]
1037. 42:44money okay so he did sue he sued
1038. 42:47cnn um i think he might have sued jay
  1039. 42:50leno um
1040. 42:53he did get some money he did he
1041. 42:56also sued the journal of cons the
  1042. 42:58atlanta journal constitution
1043. 43:01and they actually dropped the case and
  1044. 43:03it um
1045. 43:04because they said that it was what kathy
  1046. 43:07had said
1047. 43:09was true at the time which i also do
  1048. 43:12agree with like i don't think it was
1049. 43:15i think what happened to him was awful
  1050. 43:18and
1051. 43:20there's a lot to learn from it
  1052. 43:23um but i don't think that
1053. 43:28kathy herself no i definitely this is
  1054. 43:32what i think i definitely disagree with
  1055. 43:34suing jay leno
  1056. 43:35or comedians because they
1057. 43:46i know cnn got sued and i know that they
  1058. 43:49paid
  1059. 43:50out um maybe it was too i can't
1060. 43:54i i i'm not positive about the jay leno
  1061. 43:56thing
  1062. 43:57okay i could be wrong i don't agree with
  1063. 44:00suing the
1064. 44:01the media i think who he needed to sue
1065. 44:05was the ibi yeah because
1066. 44:08they he should be suing them
1067. 44:11for okay releasing him as a suspect
  1068. 44:16without probable cause or
1069. 44:18him being named right okay so let me
  1070. 44:20tell you
  1071. 44:22okay kathy would never
1072. 44:25tell her source and so i think
  1073. 44:29maybe i don't agree with that i think
  1074. 44:32that
1075. 44:33at that point like she should have told
1076. 44:36who told her and she never did
1077. 44:39oh yeah that's got to be some like
  1078. 44:41journalistic
1079. 44:42ethics yeah thing she didn't want to
1080. 44:46sell out her homie at the fbi
1081. 44:48but if he ruined somebody's life then he
1082. 44:51probably should be held responsible
1083. 44:53yes i agree so richard died of heart
  1084. 44:57failure
1085. 44:58from diabetes complications he did end
  1086. 45:01up working
1087. 45:02again in law enforcement by the way
  1088. 45:04people good
1089. 45:05and he got married um
1090. 45:09oh i'm so glad but he never
1091. 45:12lived down the richard jewel effect
1092. 45:14which is what people call it now
  1093. 45:16listen he really wouldn't now because
1094. 45:18now you put you put in everybody's name
1095. 45:21and then you know yeah if he was trying
  1096. 45:24to meet someone on
1097. 45:25match or you know tinder
  1098. 45:29right it wouldn't have happened so i was
1099. 45:32thinking he died without even getting
  1100. 45:33laid
1101. 45:34no i think he got married nice
1102. 45:37um and kathy scruggs i also wanted to
1103. 45:41know what happened to her
  1104. 45:43um and kathy i think
1105. 45:47actually never got over her part in this
1106. 45:50awful experience that she put
1107. 45:53richard through and kathy overdosed
1108. 45:56on prescription pills and died in 2001
1109. 46:00at the age of 42. oh my gosh
1110. 46:03well why didn't she just publish an
  1111. 46:05article like real sorry
  1112. 46:07i don't know there's a vanity fair
  1113. 46:10article that i got a lot of this
  1114. 46:11information off of
1115. 46:12um it's a real good one kind of tells
  1116. 46:15you everything and that's also
1117. 46:17i know that clint eastwood made his
  1118. 46:20movie off of that article there's a book
  1119. 46:22too
1120. 46:22and richard's mom her name was bobby or
  1121. 46:25is bobby she's still alive
1122. 46:27she's in her 80s and she thinks that
1123. 46:31the trauma from all this is what killed
  1124. 46:33her son
  1125. 46:34because of the stress and i
  1126. 46:39think she's probably right probably
  1127. 46:42i don't know if it's a hundred percent
1128. 46:43but i'm sure it did not help
1129. 46:48so that is the story of richard jewell
  1130. 46:51and i'll tell you
1131. 46:54i kind of um i watched that movie you
  1132. 46:57know
  1133. 46:59and i wasn't planning on doing the story
  1134. 47:03but i
1135. 47:04like really felt for this guy
1136. 47:07and kind of spoke to me you know
1137. 47:11that and especially because media right
  1138. 47:14now is
  1139. 47:15so effing crazy
1140. 47:19just like the power of the media can
  1141. 47:22really hurt
  1142. 47:25people that is
  1143. 47:29for sure yeah so
  1144. 47:33that's that that's a [ __ ] as you would
  1145. 47:37say
  1146. 47:38that's a [ __ ] and that is a [ __ ] all right
  1147. 47:40we have
1148. 47:42some shout outs gretchy so
1149. 47:45if you guys would like to give

1169. 48:33radiant lee rosie she is so cute
1170. 48:38and she posts a picture of us
1171. 48:41it's not a good picture of me it's in

1173. 48:45um i'll take it whichever way you guys
  1174. 48:48want to bring it it's
  1175. 48:49fine oh you guys
  1176. 48:53last time i had my um
1177. 48:56my cat on the video

1179. 49:02they would like to see jupiter
1180. 49:04my sugar glider oh for sure
1181. 49:08yeah and how about the sugar rat let's
  1182. 49:11oh no we can't we we haven't
1183. 49:14gotten to the point of holding that one
  1184. 49:16yet
1185. 49:17okay it likes to um it likes to
1186. 49:22make these really weird sounds that are
1187. 49:24called crabbing but it it
