1. 0:00hi everybody this is John and we are
2. 0:02about a month out now from the release
3. 0:04of my book there's treasure inside and I
4. 0:07wanted to take a minute to thank the
5. 0:09thousands of you who have pre-ordered my
6. 0:10book and especially those of you who
7. 0:12have sent messages talking about how
8. 0:14excited you are about this treasure hunt
9. 0:16and I also wanted to take a moment to
10. 0:18address a couple of common questions
11. 0:20that I've received um before the release
12. 0:23of the book the first topic that comes
13. 0:26up a lot I've gotten this question from
14. 0:28a lot of people in the media as well as
15. 0:30a lot of you really centers around why
16. 0:33did I create this treasure hunt why did
17. 0:35I spend years buying and securing rare
18. 0:39and valuable objects only to go out and
19. 0:41hide them all across the country for
20. 0:43someone else to find it's a great
21. 0:45question and I think it's a question
22. 0:47basically uh it's better understood if
23. 0:49you have better information about myself
24. 0:52and my background and so I want to share
25. 0:54some of that with you um you have to
26. 0:56understand I was raised in North
27. 0:58Carolina my father uh was a pastor of a
28. 1:01small Church there uh in fact the house
29. 1:04that I spent a lot of my childhood in he
30. 1:06built with his bare hands um our family
31. 1:09didn't have much money at all we
32. 1:11certainly didn't have fancy things we
33. 1:13never thought about wealth or social
34. 1:15status and in our family you weren't
35. 1:17just encouraged to volunteer your time
36. 1:19and money it was required and I think a
37. 1:23lot of those values stuck with me now I
38. 1:27don't want to give the impression that
39. 1:29when I left home that I didn't want to
40. 1:31make money I I certainly did want to
41. 1:33improve my financial situation it's why
42. 1:36I became an entrepreneur but I think
43. 1:38it's important to understand I was never
44. 1:39motivated uh by getting possessions I
45. 1:43was really interested in experiences I
46. 1:45wanted to be able to uh travel I wanted
47. 1:49to be able to go on adventures I wanted
48. 1:52to be able to learn about other cultures
49. 1:55I wanted to be able really just to
50. 1:57create memories and also wanted to be an
51. 2:00artist so I spent a lot of time uh
52. 2:03building businesses um most of them
53. 2:06failed but some of them did not in fact
54. 2:09uh in the late 2000s I had a number of
55. 2:13successful websites uh that offered free
56. 2:15Career Information they were very
57. 2:17popular and I sold those and then in
58. 2:202013 I invested a lot of my savings into
59. 2:24Bitcoin and add to that uh my wife had
60. 2:27started a very successful and award
61. 2:29winning Tech recruiting firm in San
62. 2:32Diego and by the time 2020 rolled around
63. 2:36and we were in Co lockdowns I was in a
64. 2:39really unique situation uh one where I
65. 2:41had uh the time I had the motivation and
66. 2:45desire and I also had uh the financial
67. 2:48resources to create something really
68. 2:51unique and special so when people ask me
69. 2:53why I create this treasure and I what I
70. 2:55really think it boils down to is that I
71. 2:57want to create joy for myself and I want
72. 3:00to share that with others and every
73. 3:02aspect of this this treasure hunt has
74. 3:04been joyous to me whether it was Finding
75. 3:08the Treasure items and acquiring them
76. 3:10whether it was researching the items
77. 3:11whether it was hiding uh the boxes
78. 3:14whether it was writing the book every
79. 3:16aspect of it has been incredibly joyful
80. 3:19and the most exciting thing now is I get
81. 3:21to share that with all of
82. 3:23you now speaking of Adventure um one of
83. 3:27the other topics I get a lot of
84. 3:29questions about is safety and I think
85. 3:31those questions are very smart in fact I
86. 3:34wrote a whole section of my book a
87. 3:36postcript that talks about uh safety
88. 3:39tips that I suggest for anyone who's
89. 3:42going to search for our treasure so in
90. 3:44my opinion none of the boxes are
91. 3:46dangerous to get to but I do understand
92. 3:48that the term dangerous is subjective so
93. 3:51let's just talk a little bit more
94. 3:52specifically about what I mean first of
95. 3:55all none of the boxes are hidden on or
96. 3:57across any private property um secondly
97. 4:00you don't need to wander so far from a
98. 4:02public trail that you're going to get
99. 4:03lost uh you'll never need to weade
100. 4:06through high water you don't need a boat
101. 4:09uh and you don't need any kind of
102. 4:10specialized equipment either and if you
103. 4:13walk in a direct path from where you
104. 4:16parked none of the boxes should take you
105. 4:18more than a couple hours to reach and
106. 4:20most of them uh a lot less than that now
107. 4:24who shouldn't uh go on this treasure
108. 4:27hunt well I'd say if your doctor has
109. 4:29said that you have a condition that
110. 4:33exercise uh can make dangerous then you
111. 4:36shouldn't go on this adventure um if you
112. 4:38have trouble you have a lot of pain or
113. 4:42uh it's very difficult for you to walk
114. 4:43more than a couple miles you probably
115. 4:45don't want to go on this adventure and I
116. 4:47would also personally recommend not
117. 4:48taking any young kids because in my
118. 4:50experience young kids make any Excursion
119. 4:53uh potentially more dangerous now some
120. 4:55of the boxes uh can be gotten to more
121. 4:58leisurely uh a couple might uh be a
122. 5:02slight workout if you're well out of
123. 5:04shape uh but there's no reason anyone
124. 5:07should get injured and they aren't in a
125. 5:10dangerous spot you should always follow
126. 5:12a couple of basic rules no matter uh
127. 5:14what you're doing outside take plenty of
128. 5:17water wherever you go make sure that you
129. 5:19search in good weather and I always
130. 5:21recommend it's a good idea to bring some
131. 5:23when with you I think it's more fun that
132. 5:25way and it's definitely safer so those
133. 5:28are the topics I wanted to cover today I
