Full transcript
- 0:00to invite your attention this morning to
- 0:01the book of Isaiah and uh the 61st
- 0:04[music]
- 0:05chapter, the book of Isaiah, chapter 61.
- 0:08And I want to read just a few verses of
- 0:10scripture [music] here in your hearing.
- 0:12The word of the Lord says this, the
- 0:15spirit of the Lord God is upon me. And
- 0:17then if you'll just look at what Jesus
- 0:20or what what the prophet is saying.
- 0:21Jesus ends up repeating it later. But
- 0:24but notice what the prophet is saying
- 0:26and just [music] if you'll take in the
- 0:28beauty of what is being said in this
- 0:30passage. The spirit of the Lord God is
- 0:33upon me because the Lord hath anointed
- 0:36me to preach good tidings [music] unto
- 0:38the meek. He has sent me to bind up the
- 0:42brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to
- 0:45the [music] captives, and the opening of
- 0:47the prison to them that are bound, to
- 0:50proclaim the acceptable year of the
- 0:52Lord, and the day of [music] vengeance
- 0:54of our God, to comfort all that mourn,
- 0:57to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,
- 1:00[music] to give unto them beauty for
- 1:04ashes, the oil of joy for [music]
- 1:07mourning, the garment of praise for the
- 1:10spirit of heaviness [music] that they
- 1:12might be called trees of righteousness,
- 1:15the planting of the Lord that [music] he
- 1:18might be glorified.
- 1:22Praise God. Such a beautiful passage and
- 1:24there are so many things that we could
- 1:27take from this text. But I would like to
- 1:29concentrate our attention this [music]
- 1:30morning on the on the statement in the
- 1:33first verse that simply says, "He hath
- 1:35sent me to bind up the brokenhearted."
- 1:39And I feel led [music] of the Lord to
- 1:40preach this morning on this subject,
- 1:42binding up the brokenhearted.
- 1:46Could we lift up our voice and ask God
- 1:48to bless [music] his word as it goes
- 1:50forth today? Lord, I pray for a special
- 1:53anointing both upon your messenger and
- 1:56upon your people today as your word goes
- 1:58forth. God, I pray you'll allow it to do
- 2:01what it is intended [music] to do, to
- 2:03heal and to deliver, to set free. Lord,
- 2:06I pray in the name of Jesus that each
- 2:08and every one of us would would sit
- 2:10together in heavenly places [music] in
- 2:12your precious name. God, we submit
- 2:14ourselves to your word, asking you to do
- 2:18a work in our lives, Lord. Let us never
- 2:20be the same but let us grow in grace
- 2:23today we pray in Jesus' name. [music]
- 2:25And the church said in Jesus name.
- 2:28Everybody said amen. And amen. God bless
- 2:31you. You may be seated [music] in the
- 2:33name of the Lord.
- 2:43In Luke chapter 4,
- 2:46Jesus was preparing
- 2:49to do something
- 2:52that was quite significant.
- 2:55He was about to announce to the world
- 3:01that the role of Messiah
- 3:06was filled and underway.
- 3:10This was a longawwaited
- 3:14promise, a long awaited fulfillment of
- 3:16ancient prophecies. So many prophecies
- 3:20had come forth. Not only were these
- 3:24prophecies uttered, but they were also
- 3:28lived out in the lives of so many people
- 3:31who who were living life, going through
- 3:36their daily routines. And the whole time
- 3:39because they were in covenant with the
- 3:41Lord, their very life was serving as an
- 3:45example to everyone that there is a
- 3:48Messiah coming and Messiah would bring
- 3:52hope and he would bring peace and he
- 3:55would bring joy and he would he would
- 3:58remove the bondage of death that the
- 4:02world had come to be so familiar with.
- 4:05And here Jesus in Luke chapter 4 sits
- 4:09and waits for the opportunity
- 4:11to stand up and announce
- 4:14that that time has come.
- 4:18And as he's preparing to do so and
- 4:21finally does stand to the occasion, he
- 4:23takes the ancient scroll of the prophet
- 4:25Isaiah
- 4:27and he unfolds this scroll and he begins
- 4:31to read. And it it seemed like a normal
- 4:35day at the synagogue, but he begins to
- 4:38read and he says, "The spirit of the
- 4:40Lord God is upon me because the Lord
- 4:44hath anointed me to preach good tidings
- 4:47unto the meek. He hath sent me to bind
- 4:48up the brokenhearted, to proclaim
- 4:50liberty to the captives, the opening of
- 4:53the prison to them that are bound, to
- 4:55proclaim the acceptable year of the
- 4:58Lord." And then he closed the book. And
- 5:02when he closed the book, all eyes are
- 5:04looking at him because they expected him
- 5:06to keep on reading. But he closed the
- 5:09book and said, "This day,
- 5:14>> is this scripture fulfilled in your
- 5:17ears?"
- 5:23>> You, you and I can only imagine. It's
- 5:26hard to fathom the the the mix of
- 5:28emotion that filled that room. No one
- 5:32had ever made such a claim.
- 5:35And no one had ever lived the kind of
- 5:39life that checked all the boxes
- 5:43connected to messianic prophecy.
- 5:46But he was born in Bethlehem of a virgin
- 5:51named Mary. Hallelujah. The angels
- 5:55announced his arrival. He had lived a
- 5:58life free of sin and free of iniquity.
- 6:03And he arrives at this place having been
- 6:06baptized by John in the Jordan River and
- 6:10explaining and exclaiming to anybody who
- 6:12would listen, "This day is this
- 6:15scripture fulfilled in your ears." And I
- 6:19want to I want to just kind of focus our
- 6:22attention to this statement. He has sent
- 6:25me to bind up the brokenhearted
- 6:29because that is indeed the great malady
- 6:33of the human condition,
- 6:36brokenheartedness.
- 6:38>> And it is the great
- 6:41disability if you please of our society
- 6:45and culture today. Even in our
- 6:48individual lives, it is the broken heart
- 6:52that we struggle with the most.
- 6:55>> There are so many reasons why it is
- 6:59important that our hearts are healed.
- 7:03There is significance associated with
- 7:06the heart. The Bible says this, Jesus
- 7:09was asked the question, "What is the
- 7:11great commandment?"
- 7:13And I don't know if they expected him to
- 7:15be stumped by that question. Like maybe
- 7:17he would have to search the rolodex of
- 7:20his mind and think in terms of well
- 7:23that's a good question. Let me give some
- 7:26thought to that because how do you
- 7:28prioritize what is the greatest of all
- 7:30commandments?
- 7:32How do you prioritize among some really
- 7:34good ones? Not killing, that's a good
- 7:36thing. Not stealing, that's a good
- 7:39thing. not committing adultery. That's a
- 7:42good thing. So, how do you how do you
- 7:45how do you really weigh and consider all
- 7:48of the great commandments? But Jesus
- 7:50didn't hesitate. He didn't have to weigh
- 7:52his thoughts. He didn't have to consider
- 7:54the options. He simply said it because
- 7:56he is the author of the law
- 7:59>> and he simply spoke to it and said,
- 8:02"Here is the greatest commandment here.
- 8:04Oh Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord
- 8:08and him only shall you serve. And hear
- 8:11what he said next. He said, "You shall
- 8:14love the Lord thy God with all thy
- 8:18heart, with all thy mind, with all thy
- 8:21soul, with all thy strength." And he
- 8:24said, "The second is like unto the
- 8:26first. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as
- 8:29thyself."
- 8:31But when he said to them, "You shall
- 8:33love the Lord thy God with all thy
- 8:36heart, mind, soul, and strength, and you
- 8:38shall love your neighbor as yourself,"
- 8:41he knew what he was talking about. He
- 8:43explained to them that if you can get
- 8:45these commands, then all of the other
- 8:49commands you will have kept.
- 8:52>> Because every single command in the word
- 8:55of the Lord falls into one of two
- 8:57categories. loving God with everything
- 9:00you have or loving your neighbor as
- 9:02yourself.
- 9:04>> And in order to keep the commands, you
- 9:07must be able to keep these two commands.
- 9:11But this is a tall order. In fact, it's
- 9:13an impossible task to love the Lord with
- 9:17all of your heart and with all of your
- 9:20mind and all of your soul and all of
- 9:23your strength. It is literally
- 9:25impossible for any one person to achieve
- 9:29this monumental goal of loving God with
- 9:34all of your heart. How do I even how how
- 9:39do I even harness all of my heart?
- 9:44Especially when you consider the fact
- 9:45that every one of us has had our heart
- 9:48to be broken before. You can't do things
- 9:53with a broken heart that involve a
- 9:56wholehearted effort.
- 9:58To provide a wholehearted effort to
- 10:00anything, it is impossible to do it when
- 10:03the heart itself is broken. Maybe one
- 10:07half of the heart will respond. But the
- 10:09other half has been severed from the
- 10:12wholeness of the heart. It becomes
- 10:15impossible. You have met people and
- 10:17maybe you yourself have been a person
- 10:19who has suffered from the symptoms of
- 10:21brokenheartedness.
- 10:23Brokenheartedness manifests itself in so
- 10:26many different ways. One of the ways
- 10:28that it manifests itself is in the area
- 10:31of a halfhearted effort.
- 10:35>> You've heard people say you got to put
- 10:37ALL YOUR HEART INTO IT. YOU'RE only
- 10:39giving it a half-hearted effort. Well,
- 10:41there's a reason why we give
- 10:43half-hearted efforts. Because our heart
- 10:45is broken somewhere. We don't know how
- 10:48to put our whole heart into something.
- 10:51So there are half-hearted efforts.
- 10:53You've heard the statement from the
- 10:55scriptures that a double-minded man
- 10:58is unstable in all his ways.
- 11:01Double-mindedness
- 11:03comes from brokenheartedness.
- 11:06Double-mindedness is a result of
- 11:08somebody's heart that doesn't function
- 11:10QUITE RIGHT. THE HEART IS NOT MEANT TO
- 11:13BE broken down into various categories
- 11:17where you love here but you hate there
- 11:20and and you and you you love your job
- 11:22but your but you neglect your family and
- 11:25and you love your your your career but
- 11:27you but you neglect your spouse. That's
- 11:29that's not how the that's not how the
- 11:31heart is supposed to work. The heart is
- 11:33supposed to be whole. The heart is
- 11:35supposed to be healed. The heart is
- 11:37supposed to be firing on all cylinders.
- 11:40All chambers of the heart are supposed
- 11:43to be clean and moving in the right
- 11:46direction. But when a broken heart
- 11:48exists, the heart becomes dysfunctional
- 11:51and becomes deformed and unable to
- 11:53accomplish a wholehearted effort. The
- 11:56Bible says out of the abundance of the
- 11:58heart, the mouth speaketh. So out of the
- 12:02abundance of the heart, THE MOUTH
- 12:04SPEAKETH. SO THE MOUTH BEGINS to express
- 12:06what's going on on the inside of the
- 12:08heart. That's why they say you can fool
- 12:11some of the people all of the time and
- 12:12you can fool all of the people some of
- 12:14the time, but you can't fool all of the
- 12:16people all of the time because one way
- 12:18or another and somewhere down the road
- 12:20your mouth is going to give away what's
- 12:23inside of your heart. You mark it down.
- 12:26You can be as polished as you want to
- 12:28be, but somewhere it's going to come out
- 12:31of your mouth what's really going on on
- 12:34the inside of your heart. So, you've met
- 12:36people who who talk out of both sides of
- 12:39their mouth. They talk out of both sides
- 12:42of their mouth because their heart is
- 12:44speaking two different things. It's a
- 12:47broken heart. You've met people who are
- 12:50double tonged. Maybe you yourself have
- 12:52been double tonged and and and what you
- 12:54mean is you'll say this here and that
- 12:57there. You'll you you'll make this claim
- 12:59when you're in this company and make a
- 13:01different claim when you're another
- 13:02company. THAT'S BECAUSE THE HEART HAS
- 13:04been broken somewhere and you're trying
- 13:07to guard in vain your heart from being
- 13:10broken again. You've heard of people who
- 13:12are two-faced. Two-faced people are
- 13:15brokenhearted people. These are people
- 13:18that have somewhere the heart stopped
- 13:20working on one side, one place or
- 13:23another. Sometime in their life, there
- 13:25was a laceration that left their heart
- 13:29incapable of producing a wholehearted
- 13:32effort. We even refer to sometimes uh
- 13:35the condition of being hardarted.
- 13:39Infamously, Pharaoh was hardened in his
- 13:42heart. Hardheartedness comes from
- 13:45brokenheartedness.
- 13:46Maybe you've even called somebody
- 13:48coldhearted.
- 13:50They're coldhearted. That's a reference
- 13:53to death. That's a reference to the
- 13:55death of feeling. That's a reference to
- 13:58the the paralysis of compassion.
- 14:02That somewhere they died. Somewhere that
- 14:04feeling compassionate and and loving
- 14:07side of them, it died along the way and
- 14:10they are no longer able to have a a warm
- 14:14heart. See, you you like warm-hearted
- 14:17people. How many like warm-hearted
- 14:20people?
- 14:21>> And and and we have probably just the
- 14:23opposite reaction to the coldhearted
- 14:25person. The warm-hearted reference is a
- 14:29reference to life. It's a reference to
- 14:31blood flowing. It's a reference to
- 14:33breath happening. It's it's a reference
- 14:35to the living heart. Whereas the cold
- 14:37heart is referring to a heart that has
- 14:40died somewhere along the way. But it
- 14:42doesn't matter what the situation was.
- 14:45It doesn't matter, ladies and gentlemen,
- 14:47if you're cold-hearted, hard-hearted,
- 14:49half-hearted, if you're two-faced,
- 14:51double tonged, doubleminded. It doesn't
- 14:53matter what the situation is. I've come
- 14:55to preach to you that Jesus Christ is
- 14:58here to bind up the broken hearted.
- 15:05[applause]
- 15:06I said Jesus Christ is here to bind up
- 15:10the brokenhearted. He specializes in
- 15:13binding up the brokenhearted. I remember
- 15:16sitting down with a man, a good man, who
- 15:18who was so kind and and so humble and
- 15:21and you you really would have never
- 15:23dreamed that he ever had a a situation
- 15:26as he was about to explain to me and
- 15:28express. But he began to express to me.
- 15:30He said, "I have a I have a situation in
- 15:33my past that I have never been able to
- 15:35get over." He was well up in years by
- 15:38this point. And he began to speak of a
- 15:40circumstance that occurred when he was
- 15:4211 years old. He said that his mother
- 15:45had entrusted to him the care of his
- 15:48three-year-old brother. She had to go
- 15:50into town to pick up some groceries. And
- 15:52he she said to him, she said, "I need
- 15:55you to watch your three-year-old
- 15:56brother." He said, "Mom, I don't want to
- 15:58watch my brother. He's he's he's going
- 16:00to mess my whole plan up. I was going to
- 16:03go down and play basketball with the
- 16:04guys and and uh and just go down to the
- 16:07park and have some fun today." And she
- 16:09said, "I need you to do this for me. I
- 16:11have to go into town. I have to get
- 16:13groceries. But but I need you. I can't
- 16:15do it unless you watch your brother."
- 16:17And so he did begrudgingly, but he
- 16:19didn't really watch him. He said, "You
- 16:21know what? He'll have to take care of
- 16:22himself cuz this is messing up my
- 16:23plans." So he played basketball. He was
- 16:2611 years old and his his little brother
- 16:28was three years old. And he saw him
- 16:30wandering around the court and going
- 16:32down into the field and out into the
- 16:33grass and over into the woods. And every
- 16:35once in a while he'd glance over and
- 16:36make sure he was all right. and he
- 16:38didn't see him one time, but that's all
- 16:39right. It's a big area. He'll be fine.
- 16:41And all of the sudden, there was the
- 16:44sound of the train that was familiar to
- 16:46everybody there on the basketball court.
- 16:48But but then the unfamiliar sound of the
- 16:51train coming to a screeching halt,
- 16:55it struck a nerve with him. It it
- 16:57awakened something in him. It alarmed
- 16:59him and he thought, "Where's my
- 17:00brother?"
- 17:01He ran to where the train was and he
- 17:04found his brother mangled under the
- 17:07train.
- 17:10He died that day.
- 17:12He told me, he said, "Brother Hersan,"
- 17:15he said, "Half of my heart shattered in
- 17:18pieces
- 17:20when I saw what happened to my little
- 17:23brother." And and I knew like nobody
- 17:25else knew the role I played by not being
- 17:28there as my mother had instructed me.
- 17:31He said, 'I dreaded when my mother would
- 17:33get to the scene because I was
- 17:35responsible for the death of my little
- 17:37brother. And my mother when she came to
- 17:40the scene collapsed. She went into total
- 17:44shock and silence.
- 17:46She didn't emerge from that for for some
- 17:49time. He said, as a matter of fact, she
- 17:51never recovered. He said her heart
- 17:54shattered into a million pieces. He
- 17:57said, 'When her heart shattered, the
- 17:59other half of my heart just died. I knew
- 18:02what I had done to my brother, and then
- 18:04I knew what I had done to my mother. I
- 18:05was 11 years old, and I've never ever,
- 18:08not to this day, have I been able to
- 18:10forgive myself for what happened on that
- 18:13day. Listen, ladies and gentlemen, you
- 18:15don't know what people have faced in
- 18:18their life. And you don't know what
- 18:20haunts them at night. And you don't know
- 18:22what kind of condemnation they struggle
- 18:24with. you you don't understand what
- 18:27broke their heart and and maybe why they
- 18:29suffer and struggle and maybe why
- 18:32they're irritable at times and maybe why
- 18:34they cower and why they run. But but
- 18:37Jesus said, "I have come. The spirit of
- 18:41the Lord is upon me because he hath
- 18:44anointed me to preach good tidings unto
- 18:47the meek. He hath anointed me to set at
- 18:51liberty them that are bruised. The
- 18:53spirit of the Lord is upon me because he
- 18:56hath anointed me to preach deliverance
- 18:59to the captive and yes to bind up the
- 19:02brokenhearted. [gasps] Hallelujah.
- 19:05Here's what you have to understand about
- 19:07Jesus. He is the heart specialist. The
- 19:12kind of heart that I'm preaching to you
- 19:14about this morning. YOU CAN'T FIND it on
- 19:17an ultrasound. You can Google heart
- 19:21specialist ALL YOU WANT. GO ahead and
- 19:23try heart specialist Cincinnati, Ohio.
- 19:26And it'll direct you to some really
- 19:28smart people who can do a lot of really
- 19:31good work, but they can't help you with
- 19:33the kind OF HEART THAT I'M talking to
- 19:35you about this morning. IT DOESN'T SHOW
- 19:38UP IN AN ECHO CARDIOGRAM. IT IT DOESN'T
- 19:42APPEAR ON AN ULTRASOUND. AN MRI
- 19:44[screaming]
- 19:45CANNOT DETECT WHAT IS wrong with this.
- 19:48to heart is it is an intangible. It is
- 19:51an invisible thing. You can't EVEN PUT
- 19:54YOUR [screaming] HANDS AROUND THE KIND
- 19:56OF HEART THAT I'VE COME TO PREACH TO YOU
- 19:58ABOUT TODAY. HEAR WHAT I'M TELLING YOU.
- 20:01IF YOU'RE HERE WITH A BROKEN HEART, YOU
- 20:04CAN'T FIX YOUR BROKEN HEART. YOU CAN'T
- 20:07SEE IT. YOU CAN'T TOUCH IT. YOU CAN'T
- 20:09FIND IT. AND NOBODY ELSE IN THIS
- 20:11BUILDING WITH THEIR NATURAL MIND CAN DO
- 20:14IT FOR YOU. [applause]
- 20:17OH, but I remember a day when Jesus
- 20:20stood up in the synagogue and opened UP
- 20:22AN ANCIENT SCROLL AND SAID, "WHEN ISAIAH
- 20:26SAID THAT THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD
- 20:28[screaming] IS UPON ME BECAUSE HE HATH
- 20:31SENT ME TO BIND up the brokenhearted, I
- 20:34want every demoniac to hear me this day.
- 20:38This scripture is fulfilled in your
- 20:40ears. I WANT EVERY WOMAN WITH AN ISSUE
- 20:42of blood to HEAR ME THIS DAY. THIS
- 20:45SCRIPTURE IS FULFILLED IN YOUR EARS. I
- 20:49WANT EVERY ROMAN CENTURION WHO HAS A
- 20:51SERVANT SICK AT HOME TO HEAR ME THIS
- 20:54DAY. IS THIS SCRIPTURE fulfilled in your
- 20:58ears?
- 21:02[laughter]
- 21:03He has come to put his hands,
- 21:06hallelujah, around what is broken in
- 21:10your mind. He has come to put his hands
- 21:14around what is broken in your spirit.
- 21:17See, you don't even know. You don't even
- 21:19know where to go to fix the brokenness
- 21:23of your heart BECAUSE YOU DON'T EVEN
- 21:25KNOW WHERE it broke. It broke before you
- 21:28were even cognizant that it was
- 21:30breaking. YOU YOU DIDN'T EVEN KNOW. But
- 21:33when you were 4 years old, there was
- 21:35some kind of an offense that hit you
- 21:38with a blunt force and a chip of your
- 21:40heart went flying. AND THEN AGAIN, WHEN
- 21:43YOU WERE 7 YEARS OLD, THERE WAS A A
- 21:45SWIPING LACERATION OF YOUR HEART AND
- 21:49ANOTHER piece of your heart fell on the
- 21:51ground. Maybe it fell on the playground
- 21:54of the school dealing with a bully.
- 21:56Maybe it fell upon the living room of
- 21:58your floor, the floor of your childhood
- 22:00home. WHEN SOME WELL-MEANING INDIVIDUAL
- 22:03SAID SOMETHING CALLOUSLY that hurt,
- 22:07CALLOUSLY THAT WOUNDED BECAUSE THEY WERE
- 22:10HAVING A bad day and it broke your heart
- 22:13and pieces and chips, invisible pieces,
- 22:17invisible chips of your heart are FLYING
- 22:20AND IT'S WHIDDLING AWAY AT THE HEART
- 22:22THAT GOD PUT INSIDE OF YOU. AMEN.
- 22:26>> Scripture says that I've come to take
- 22:28the stony heart out of your flesh and
- 22:31I've come to give you the heart of
- 22:33flesh. It's one of the few times in the
- 22:35scripture that the Bible refers to flesh
- 22:37in a positive connotation. Normally,
- 22:40it's dealing with the weakness of this
- 22:42human frailty and flesh. But the Bible
- 22:45says, "I'm going to give you the heart
- 22:47of flesh." When it talks about the heart
- 22:49of flesh, he's telling you, "I'm going
- 22:52to give you the heart. you were always
- 22:55supposed to have. See, the fact that
- 22:58it's a stony heart means that it's a
- 23:00hard heart. And where a heart becomes
- 23:02hardened is when the heart tries to fix
- 23:05itself. See, see, your body is an
- 23:09amazing thing. Did you know that when
- 23:11your body becomes wounded, it will
- 23:12immediately start trying to heal itself?
- 23:15Yeah,
- 23:15>> it's a lesson in the body of Christ
- 23:18because when the body of Christ becomes
- 23:19wounded, the body of Christ has agency
- 23:22within it that will begin healing
- 23:24immediately. There Oh, hallelujah. Oh, I
- 23:27feel the Holy Ghost. There are
- 23:29antibodies in the body that will fight
- 23:32infection. Hallelujah. There are CELLS
- 23:35IN THE BODY. AND YOU KNOW where you're
- 23:37going to find them? You're going to find
- 23:39them in the blood. I've [clears throat]
- 23:41come to remind somebody that there's
- 23:43power in the blood. [laughter] Power in
- 23:46the blood. WHAT KIND OF POWER YOU MAY
- 23:49ASK? I'LL TELL YOU WHAT KIND OF POWER.
- 23:52WONDER WORKING POWER [screaming] IN THE
- 23:54BLOOD.
- 23:57WOULD YOU BE FREE FROM YOUR BURDEN OF
- 23:59SIN? THERE'S POWER IN THE BLOOD. WOULD
- 24:02YOU OR EVIL A VICTORY WHEN THERE'S POWER
- 24:05IN THE BLOOD?
- 24:07>> HALLELUJAH. And your heart will try to
- 24:09heal itself. But listen, the
- 24:11unregenerated soul, the fallen NATURE OF
- 24:14MAN DOESN'T KNOW HOW to heal itself. And
- 24:17so the heart begins to try immediately
- 24:19to heal itself, but it heals itself the
- 24:21wrong way and it leaves scar tissue. And
- 24:24that scar tissue starts to build and it
- 24:27becomes hard and your heartens. And all
- 24:30of a sudden, the heart that used to
- 24:31trust doesn't trust anymore. And the
- 24:34heart that used to love stops loving
- 24:36like it once loved. and and the heart
- 24:38that used to be kind and compassionate
- 24:40starts to hold back its kindness and its
- 24:43compassion for fear that it will be
- 24:45broken again for fear that it will be
- 24:48lacerated again. And so the heart begins
- 24:51to harden. God said, "I'm going to deal
- 24:54with that stony heart. I'm going to take
- 24:57that stony heart, that hard heart out of
- 25:00you, and I'm going to put a heart of
- 25:02flesh inside of you." In other words,
- 25:05I'm going to remove all the scar tissue.
- 25:08I'm going to remove all the hardness,
- 25:11all the calluses that have developed
- 25:13over time. I'm going to remove the pain.
- 25:17Ah, I'm going to take away the pain.
- 25:20That's why you can look at somebody
- 25:21across the way here and they've got the
- 25:24worst kind of background you can
- 25:26imagine. THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH STUFF. YOU
- 25:29CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE the kind of things
- 25:31they've been through and the kind of
- 25:33problems they face. But they stand here
- 25:36today with open heart, LOVING WHOSOEVER
- 25:39WILL, WITH HANDS UP LIFTED, EYES ON THE
- 25:42PRIZE, SAYING HE'S WORTHY TO BE PRAISED.
- 25:45I TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED. GOD TOOK THE
- 25:47HARDNESS OUT OF THEIR HEART AND HE
- 25:50REPLACED IT WITH THE HEART THEY WERE
- 25:52ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO HAVE.
- 25:56>> [applause]
- 25:57>> You see it in the life of non the the
- 26:00the captain of the host of Syria when he
- 26:03had leprosy covering his body and Elisha
- 26:06said go dip seven times in the Jordan
- 26:08River. When he went to dip seven times
- 26:10in the Jordan River, this lepous man is
- 26:13in the JORDAN RIVER. SIX TIMES HE WENT
- 26:16down into that WATER AND SIX TIMES HE
- 26:19CAME UP with nothing happening of any
- 26:21positive nature. But he was obedient and
- 26:24he went down the seventh time. When he
- 26:26came up the seventh time, I want you TO
- 26:29KNOW THE BIBLE SAID HE HAD THE FLESH OF
- 26:32A CHILD. HE DIDN'T JUST HAVE THE leprosy
- 26:35removed. HIS HIS WHOLE BODY WAS RESTORED
- 26:40TO WHAT IT WAS BEFORE THERE EVER WAS
- 26:42LEPROSY IN HIS BODY. HIS BODY WAS
- 26:45RESTORED TO before he ever had a
- 26:47blemish, to before he ever had acne, to
- 26:50before he ever had a scar, to before he
- 26:53ever had a pain. His flesh was restored
- 26:56to that OF A CHILD. GOD is going to do
- 26:59THAT FOR SOMEBODY TODAY. HE'S GOING TO
- 27:01TAKE YOU BACK TO BEFORE YOU WERE
- 27:04BETRAYED, TO BEFORE YOUR TRUST WAS
- 27:06BROKEN, TO BEFORE YOU WERE VIOLATED AND
- 27:10WOUNDED, BEFORE YOU WERE HATED.
- 27:14>> [applause]
- 27:15>> IS THERE SOMEBODY IN THE HOUSE OF GOD
- 27:17THAT KNOWS THAT WHAT I'M PREACHING IS
- 27:19TRUE? THAT IF YOU GIVE IT ALL TO JESUS,
- 27:22JESUS WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU.
- 27:26[applause]
- 27:28HALLELUJAH.
- 27:32HALLELUJAH.
- 27:35Where do I even start? Where do I even
- 27:38start, BROTHER JOEL? I DON'T EVEN KNOW
- 27:39where to start. I can't find him. He's
- 27:42going to he's going to pick up the
- 27:44pieces. You you you don't even know. Not
- 27:46only do you not know where the pieces
- 27:47went, you could go back to where you
- 27:49know your heart broke and you could look
- 27:51for the piece, but you couldn't find it
- 27:53because it's INVISIBLE TO YOU. IT'S NOT
- 27:56A TANGIBLE HEART. IT'S AN INTANGIBLE
- 27:59HEART. YOU CAN GO LOOK upon the mulch of
- 28:01that playground under the swings and
- 28:03near the slide, BUT YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE
- 28:05TO FIND THAT PIECE of your invisible
- 28:08heart that broke when you were six, when
- 28:10you were eight. You'll never be able to
- 28:12go back to that day when you were 14
- 28:15[laughter] and try to pick up that
- 28:16broken piece of your heart. You'll never
- 28:18be able to go back to your first year of
- 28:20marriage and pick up those broken,
- 28:22shattered pieces that are broken and and
- 28:25laying around the living [laughter] room
- 28:26OF THAT HOUSE. YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO
- 28:28GO BACK TO THAT COURTROOM. YOU'LL NEVER
- 28:29BE ABLE TO GO BACK TO THAT HOSPITAL
- 28:31ROOM. SEARCH IT IF YOU MUST, BUT YOU'LL
- 28:34NEVER FIND THOSE INVISIBLE, BROKEN
- 28:36PIECES. But there is one. There is one
- 28:40who can go back to every place your
- 28:43heart was ever broken. And he can pick
- 28:46up the invisible pieces. He sees them
- 28:49and he knows where they are. And he'll
- 28:51scoop them up in his hand. HE'LL PICK UP
- 28:54EVERY CHIP. WOO. I SAID HE'LL PICK UP
- 28:57EVERY CHIP.
- 29:02HALLELUJAH.
- 29:04You know, you know, if my coffee mug
- 29:07drops and the handle breaks off, I might
- 29:11be able to fix that, pastor. Just take
- 29:13some Gorilla Glue
- 29:15and just hold it. I'll just hold it.
- 29:18I'll just hold it for a long time.
- 29:20There's somebody here today that needs
- 29:21to just hold it. [laughter] Hallelujah.
- 29:24I feel like quitting. Hold it. I FEEL
- 29:26LIKE TURNING AROUND. HOLD IT. I FEEL
- 29:30LIKE I CAN'T MAKE HOLD [screaming] IT.
- 29:32STAND STILL AND SEE THE SALVATION OF THE
- 29:36LORD. BE STILL AND KNOW [screaming] THAT
- 29:39I AM GOD. COME ON, SOMEBODY. HOLD IT
- 29:42TOGETHER. HOLD IT TOGETHER. HOLD IT
- 29:44TOGETHER. [cheering and applause]
- 29:51My God. I FEEL LIKE GOD IS PUTTING HIS
- 29:55HANDS AROUND SOMEBODY AND HE'S just
- 29:57holding you.
- 30:00Sometimes that's not comfortable.
- 30:02Sometimes you feel like wiggling free.
- 30:04Don't wiggle free. Let him hold you
- 30:10because when he gets done, you're going
- 30:12to be whole. You're going to be fixed.
- 30:16>> But I might be able to put some Holy
- 30:18Ghost gorilla glue on it.
- 30:21>> I can come to church and I can hold it
- 30:23together.
- 30:26>> You know that smile? That hurts to
- 30:28smile.
- 30:32You might be able to hold it together,
- 30:34but where it gets difficult is when the
- 30:36coffee mug drops and it's not the handle
- 30:38that breaks off. The whole thing just
- 30:41shatters
- 30:44>> and shards of glass and and and and
- 30:47powder
- 30:49and and little little jagged edges and
- 30:51pieces that are literally in a million
- 30:53pieces now. and they're under the
- 30:55refrigerator and they're under the stove
- 30:57and they're under the table and and you
- 30:59don't even know where to start to put
- 31:01this mug back together. Oh, but Jesus
- 31:04said, "I am come to bind it up. I am
- 31:09come to put it back together." I can
- 31:12hear the prophet Jeremiah say, "I went
- 31:15down to the potter's house to watch the
- 31:18potter work his work upon the wheel."
- 31:21Hallelujah. [laughter] And when the
- 31:22vessel began to mar in his hand, he just
- 31:25began TO WORK THAT THING INTO A NEW
- 31:28VESSEL. I WANT YOU TO KNOW GOD KNOWS
- 31:31WHERE EVERY SHARD OF GLASS HAS GONE. I
- 31:33WANT YOU TO KNOW GOD UNDERSTANDS WHERE
- 31:36EVERY BROKEN PIECE OF YOUR LIFE HAS GONE
- 31:39AND HE'S SCOOPING IT UP. IF YOU'LL LET
- 31:42HIM, HE'LL SCOOP IT UP. HE'LL PULL IT
- 31:44ALL BACK. HE'LL SANCTIFY EVERY MEMORY.
- 31:48HE'LL CLEANSE EVERY THOUGHT. HE'LL CAST
- 31:51OUT EVERY FEAR AND HE'LL PUT [screaming]
- 31:53YOUR HEART BACK TOGETHER.
- 31:57[applause]
- 32:03[applause]
- 32:05HALLELUJAH. If you believe it, lift your
- 32:07hands to him all across this house.
- 32:10Hallelujah.
- 32:12Hallelujah.
- 32:14Come on. If you believe it, lift up your
- 32:16HAND AND SAY, "GOD, I need you to bind
- 32:18up my broken heart. I need you to FIX MY
- 32:22BROKEN SPIRIT. I NEED YOU TO FIX my
- 32:25broken heart, oh Lord."
- 32:30[laughter]
- 32:32>> Oh, hallelujah. I'm going to tell you
- 32:34something. God's getting ready to take
- 32:35the fake smile and he's going to put a
- 32:38genuine joy down in your soul. You may
- 32:42have never believed you could ever have
- 32:43joy again. Get ready because joy is
- 32:47coming. Weeping may have ENDURED FOR THE
- 32:51NIGHT. BUT JOY, BUT JOY, [screaming]
- 32:55BUT JOY. OH, BUT JOY. WHAT KIND OF JOY?
- 32:59UNSPEAKABLE JOY. AND FULL OF GLORY IS
- 33:03COMING IN THE MORNING.
- 33:09Unspeakable joy.
- 33:13Hallelujah.
- 33:20Hallelujah.
- 33:23Hallelujah.
- 33:25I want everybody that's ever had a
- 33:27broken heart, I want you [music] to
- 33:29stand with me right now all across this
- 33:33house.
- 33:37Come on. If you've ever had a broken
- 33:39heart,
- 33:41you know, I don't want anybody to be put
- 33:42on the spot today. So, we're going to do
- 33:44it like this. I want two different
- 33:46people to come at the same time. I want
- 33:48those
- 33:50whose heart has been put back together.
- 33:53And I want those who need their heart
- 33:56put back together. I want you both to
- 33:58come right now. Come on. come right now
- 34:02in the name of Jesus. [laughter]
- 34:05Cuz he has come to bind up the
- 34:07brokenhearted. He has come. He has come
- 34:12to preach deliverance to the captive. He
- 34:14has come to set at liberty them that are
- 34:17bruised. He's getting ready to heal
- 34:19things you never dreamed could be
- 34:21healed. He's getting ready to give
- 34:23closure to things you never dreamed you
- 34:26could have closure about. Come on. all
- 34:28across this building in the name of
- 34:30Jesus. In the name of Jesus, release it
- 34:34to God right now. That's it. Release it
- 34:37to the Lord in Jesus' name. Release it
- 34:41to the Lord in Jesus name.
