3. 0:03oneon-one with jod Aras Troy was in the
4. 0:06courtroom for the entire trial and was
5. 0:08the only journalist in the world to
6. 0:10speak with her right after the
7. 0:11conviction was handed down Troy your
8. 0:14thoughts well I I will say first of all
9. 0:16I didn't speak to jod Aras in jail I
10. 0:18talked to her in a holding cell down
11. 0:19below the courthouse she was taken there
12. 0:21immediately after that verdict was read
13. 0:23I can tell she was shaken when I first
14. 0:25walked up to her I asked her if she was
15. 0:27ready to do this she said yes and here's
16. 0:30some of what she had to
17. 0:32say you uh had some classes with Juan
18. 0:35Martinez you kind of went after him on
19. 0:37Twitter a little bit what are your
20. 0:38thoughts on
21. 0:39one
22. 0:42um well prior to trial I respected one
23. 0:46as a very
24. 0:48um capable
25. 0:50attorney um even though he's done some
26. 0:53very shady things in my case as far as
27. 0:55hiding evidence and um failing to
28. 0:58disclose certain things
29. 1:00hoping it would just go away but in the
30. 1:03end what does it matter it didn't help
31. 1:04my case so if you had to do this all
32. 1:06over again you're in the desert you
33. 1:09notice You' got blood on your hands how
34. 1:12do you handle
35. 1:13it I would turn around and drive to the
36. 1:16Mesa Police
37. 1:20Department and what do you think would
38. 1:22have happened to you
39. 1:23then I don't know but it would have been
40. 1:25the right
41. 1:27thing do you have a sense of where the
42. 1:30the public feeling is about you whether
43. 1:32you're liked or not liked I mean I get
44. 1:35the sense that there is great division
45. 1:37on both sides but I believe the majority
46. 1:40is against me so what are your thoughts
47. 1:42on that
48. 1:46um a psychologist once explained to me
49. 1:49that Society has this need to um
50. 1:52persecute people they get some sort of
51. 1:54gratification from it so there might be
52. 1:56something going on there did you uh have
53. 1:59any knowledge of you know the interest
54. 2:02in your case do you have an idea of how
55. 2:04many people are
56. 2:06interested
57. 2:07um I hear things but I have no access to
58. 2:13the news the internet that sort of thing
59. 2:15no direct access what kinds of things do
60. 2:17you
61. 2:18hear um I do get the newspaper so that's
62. 2:22been one portal where I've learned
63. 2:24things um a lot of inmates have come in
64. 2:27to the jail since then and they tell me
65. 2:32um they want to come up and shake my
66. 2:34hand they want to give me a hug they
67. 2:35want to they want My Autograph I'm not
68. 2:37going to sign anything let's go forward
69. 2:40it say you do get a long sense how are
70. 2:43you going to spend your
71. 2:46life I haven't decided
72. 2:58yet
73. 3:02now she did tell me earlier that she
74. 3:03preferred the death penalty over life in
75. 3:05prison John and Cary and said she did
76. 3:07not want to be in one place stuck in
77. 3:08jail all this time she prefer to be
78. 3:11strapped on that table and uh and again
79. 3:13get the death penalty did she ever
80. 3:16express sorrow and regret for killing
81. 3:19Travis Alexander did she ever say I want
82. 3:21to tell the family I'm so sorry that
83. 3:23this happened the only thing she would
84. 3:25say to the family directly was that she
85. 3:27hopes this verdict gives them peace and
86. 3:29I asked her a couple of times and that's
87. 3:31basically the only answer I got from her
88. 3:32on that now she's not doing any more
89. 3:34interviews um to your your your interv
90. 3:36was the only interview she's done and
91. 3:38will do because she's now on suicide
92. 3:40watch is that right yeah um because she
93. 3:42made some tweets and because of some of
94. 3:45the statements she made actually during
95. 3:46our interview I've been told by the
96. 3:47sheriff's department that they have put
97. 3:49her on kind of a psych watch uh to make
98. 3:51sure that she doesn't do anything to
99. 3:52hurt herself and during that time she
100. 3:54will not be allowed to talk to any other
101. 3:55reporters Troy does that mean they move
102. 3:57her out of the cell that you visited
103. 3:59earlier on on in this case I believe so
104. 4:01put in in a isolated situation yeah she
105. 4:04said she actually has moved from that
106. 4:05Cale cuz they're doing some construction
107. 4:06in the jail and I said to her I said it
108. 4:08seemed like you had a a pretty strong
109. 4:09support group around you of those other
110. 4:11inmates who were your close friends and
111. 4:13she said she's been taken out of that
112. 4:14pod and moved to another pod because of
113. 4:16all the construction they've been doing
114. 4:17so I don't know where she is tonight but
115. 4:18I do know there are some sales in that
116. 4:20area where you're locked down for 23
117. 4:22hours and the things you have access to
118. 4:24her very very limited so it's very
119. 4:25difficult for you to hurt yourself if
120. 4:26you want now you spoke with her for 45
121. 4:28minutes so much more coming up tonight
122. 4:29at 600 and again at 9 and 10 what what
123. 4:31do you have coming up at 6 uh just a lot
124. 4:34more um I really can't give you a
125. 4:35thumbnail I'll be honest with you guys
126. 4:37my head is spinning I've been going
127. 4:38non-stop since ear this morning I'm
128. 4:39going to get back to the editing room
129. 4:40I'm going to look again at what we have
