5:53because you know I've been working on
5:54Travis's case ever since it happened
5:57okay and I know exactly
5:59when it happened when he was killed I
6:02know a lot of details and just recently
6:06we found quite a bit of evidence and
6:10I'll discuss that with
6:11you the main thing that I'm looking for
6:14though is answers on why certain things
6:18happened why they went so far and also
6:23get your statements
6:26okay um
6:29a lot of details on this case that
6:31haven't been released to to the public
6:34and not even to Travis's family and
6:36those
6:37details are known only by us and the
6:41person who did it okay and that's one of
6:44the reasons I'm here is because I
6:46believe that you know some of these
6:48details and I think you can help us I
6:50would love to help you in any way that I
6:52can okay
6:55um because we're here at the police
6:58department the sheriff Department here
7:00in uh was it cisu County that's what
7:02it's called okay um and you're
7:05considered uh under arrest or detained
7:09you're not free to go and I'm a police
7:11officer I have to read you your rights
7:14okay I'm sure you've heard them on TV
7:16you um you know I have to read them off
7:19this little card here but they're pretty
7:21much the same and I'll explain them to
7:23you as we go

8:13you some questions ask you what you've
8:15been doing um you know certain dates
8:18what you were up to yeah um you
8:21mentioned you were traveling on some of
8:23these dates I want to kind of clarify
8:26some of these things and you know if
8:30there's a question that you don't want
8:31to answer you don't feel comfortable you
8:32can say no you know or you know you can
8:35elaborate as much as you want it's
8:37completely up to you it's at your speed
8:39I don't want to pressure you is this
8:41recorded at all or should we I don't I
8:43don't know if there's a recording or
8:45something I don't know if these are
8:46voice recorders I noticed them they have
8:49video they have audio batteries or what
8:52I don't think they're
8:53on really still yeah I haven't touched
8:57those or anything but uh
9:04um and they're not on so what I want to
9:07do is just get to the bottom of it
9:10everybody wants to know okay
9:15and you know so I'm going to ask you
9:17some questions you can voluntarily
9:18answer them if you want okay is that
9:20cool
9:26yeah there was some question about you
9:28being
9:31um well let's let's start with this what
9:34have you been up to since um since
9:38Travis's death what have you been
9:42doing um well I've been working I
9:46haven't been really working in prepaid
9:47legal there's not a whole lot um here in
9:50this Marketplace which is it's kind of
9:52small here it's small here and really
9:54that that could be seen as an
9:56opportunity um rather than um a
9:58hindrance because that just means the
10:00market is is untapped in a large way so
10:03I could have if I wanted to but I have
10:06I'm kind of like a deer in the
10:07headlights when it comes to preate legal
10:09and I kind I just have a fear of just
10:11approaching people um so I've been
10:14working at a Mexican restaurant in the
10:16north end of
10:17town
10:19um I've
10:23been I've been kind of in a days at
10:26least for the first few
10:27weeks um
10:31like everybody you know yeah um I know
10:34that a lot of people have been posting
10:36on Facebook really nice things you know
10:39and memories and at one point I was like
10:41well maybe I should do that so I posted
10:43this thing and I just set all my
10:45memories
10:46and I realized looking back on it that
10:48it was kind of It kind of sounded
10:50immature it's more of like my dear
10:51Travis kind of letter and so I took it
10:54down because personal yeah some of it
10:56was details more personal too personal
10:59nothing inappropriate just um I
11:03just felt funny I think because I'm a
11:06photographer I tend to communicate more
11:08through pictures so I posted a ton of
11:10pictures that I had of him um and I have
11:13a ton more that I just can't access
11:14right
11:16now and videos and things that I know
11:18his family would want but
11:21um so I posted pictures and I took that
11:24down and I posted something last week
11:26but other than that I've been on
11:28Facebook in mypace a lot looking at his
11:30profile looking at his pictures reading
11:33things um about his obituaries and um
11:38any news updates and you know there's
11:40legacy.com where you can write something
11:43about him yeah um I've seen a lot of
11:46those
11:48postings
11:49um I didn't realize until I actually
11:52spoke with Ryan
11:54Burns he he told the guy that's in Utah
11:57and we've been talking a lot we try talk
11:59about that because it's kind of like and
12:01plus Travis is my ex-boyfriend but at
12:03the same time he's my friend so while
12:05I'm mourning my friend how do you talk
12:06to your new potential possible Maybe
12:09person that you might start dating about
12:11your friend even though think he was
12:12your ex-boyfriend so it's kind of a gray
12:13area I try not to talk about him too
12:15much but he comes up a lot
12:19um and it was through him that I learned
12:22that he said you know if you come out to
12:23Utah things are really weird because
12:24everyone is everyone thinks that you
12:26could have had a um a hand I've talked
12:28to a l lot of people
12:30and everybody's pointing a finger at you
12:33I know you know everybody is saying I
12:36don't understand what happened to Travis
12:39I don't know who killed
12:41him but you need to look at
12:44Jody and sometimes the simplest answers
12:49are the correct ones and that's one of
12:52the reasons I started looking at you a
12:53little bit
12:55closer and over the last month or so
13:00I've gotten into Travis's life talked to
13:03all his friends his family I got a
13:06really good understanding of who he is
13:09now
13:11and I got a very good understanding of
13:13your relationship with
13:15him and I'm kind of just putting two and
13:19two
13:20together well I and it and it kind of
13:23matches so one of the reasons I'm here
13:26is to talk to you to figure out what was
13:29going on between you two what I know the
13:31relationship that you guys had was of
13:33convenience sometimes obviously you
13:36weren't boyfriend and girlfriend anymore
13:38but you were still having a sexual
13:42relationship which does his family know
13:45about that just curious his family
13:48doesn't know anything okay yeah I just
13:51I'm I'm interested in protecting his how
13:53he's remembered as well and you know
13:56he's he was very he was
14:00um well I'm sure if Travis could speak
14:02right now he wouldn't care what people
14:03thought about him because they knew who
14:06he was okay a sexual relationship here
14:09or there because the fact he was a
14:11member of the church really doesn't
14:13matter times a whole range of of things
14:17yeah I think in the broad scope of
14:19things that that could be right I just
14:21think that the reason I care about that
14:22is because he was adamant about that a
14:24couple times we prayed about it didn't
14:27work or we didn't stick to our you know
14:29our guns on it and um one time a
14:32girlfriend of mine just said why don't
14:33you just go to your bishop and talk and
14:35and ask Travis the same and I talked to
14:36him about and he got really angry he
14:38said I've already had problems with this
14:40in the past I'm embarrassed by it I
14:41don't want to go to my bishop and so we
14:44just kind of stopped for like a few
14:46weeks and then that must have been in I
14:48think that was August and then it just
14:51resumed well the way Travis thought by
14:54you know getting into his head and
14:55everything that he's written in his
14:57journals and um everything I found out
15:00about him he he truly had feelings for
15:04you and for some
15:07reason he felt that the relationship
15:09between you and him was somewhat
15:11unhealthy but he couldn't stop
15:14it and I assume that's probably maybe
15:18the same way you felt about him or it's
15:21maybe you didn't understand why he
15:23didn't believe it was healthy no I I
15:25didn't think it was healthy either
15:27spiritually at least and probably emot
15:29but mostly spiritually and I think that
15:31kind of once you have something that's
15:33not healthy spiritually it filters
15:34through all aspects of your life um it's
15:38it's one of the M it's one like there
15:40were three main reasons I moved back to
15:41AA and one was I was in financial dire
15:44traits um I was not getting ahead I was
15:47not I just things were not working
15:49everything in Arizona was like except
15:51for the wonderful friends that I made in
15:53my ward um and the opportunity it's like
15:56the Mormon land of opportunity there
15:57which is awesome but except for all that
15:59like every sign was pointing just just
16:02go you know you know I wasn't able to
16:05hold a job and that had never happened
16:06before
16:08um it you know too much of my my night
16:12life can was was about him you know he
16:15would text me and hey I'm getting sleepy
16:17dot dot dot a bunch of Z's and that was
16:20his code to like come on over kind of
16:24thing coast is clear you know so um you
16:28know and that was just I lived 5 minutes
16:30away 10 maybe 10 depending and it was
16:33just too convenient and too easy and it
16:34was fun and we had fun when we were
16:36together and so it wasn't healthy and I
16:38totally agree with that um so that was
16:41one of the re well financially I wasn't
16:43doing well I missed my family I moved
16:45away um shortly after high school and I
16:47come back to visit but I realize over
16:49the years I've missed out on a lot of
16:50things with my little brother and sister
16:53missed out on just U their karate or
16:57their baseball or cheerleading
17:00or just whatever and um and my dad is
17:04not doing well he doesn't think he has
17:07very long to live but he always says
17:09that he been that way for like a decade
17:11he's still here thank goodness um my
17:14grandparents aren't getting any younger
17:16and I just have an awesome
17:18family and I wanted to be able to just
17:21be here for a little bit and regroup um
17:24financially I owe my parents a lot of
17:26money and I owe my grandparents a lot of
17:28money and I I owe friends money I
17:31owe I owe my um the guy that I bought a
17:35house with I owe him a lot of money he
17:37doesn't ask me for it but I intend to
17:38pay him back because he really footed
17:41the bill on the mortgage for a few
17:43months
17:45um and the third reason and I like to
17:48put this third because I like to think
17:50that second of those reasons I would
17:51have been strong enough somehow but the
17:53third reason was to put a distance a
17:55physical distance between Travis and I
17:57because I know that he really liked Mimi
18:00and he said he did
18:03um he just I kind of felt guilty I mean
18:07I know they weren't dating but I just
18:08felt guilty somehow and I didn't know
18:11Ryan at the time I met him in in
18:14marchette um in Oklahoma City and it was
18:16just brief and I remember seeing him and
18:18saying oh I really want to go say hi to
18:20him but he was surrounded by people and
18:22it was he was kind of
18:23unapproachable um and he says he
18:25remembers meeting me too and it wasn't
18:27until Z my friend um texted me and yeah
18:32I think I told you that's and this is
18:34all after this is broke up oh broke up a
18:37Travis everything was all over I'm yeah
18:39for S of the timeline we broke I well it
18:42was kind of a mutual thing but I sort of
18:45more broke up with him um and I it was
18:48hard to do because I really loved him
18:50but I just realized that without trust
18:52you can't have anything and I violated
18:54him TR is is that the main reason you
18:55guys broke up is the trust trust I think
18:59that there's not that the relationship
19:01was unhealthy because of you know sexual
19:03activity prity but just that you guys
19:06couldn't trust each other I think that
19:08and this doesn't make it right I think
19:10that you know being a convert you know
19:12I've had I've I've been I've had a
19:15couple of serious relationships before
19:17where I was where I was intimate with a
19:18few people
19:21and it's kind of silly but I used to
19:24always joke that um regardless of what
19:27the Bible says and yes I'm Christian I
19:29just live my life by the Ten
19:30Commandments and that's my those are my
19:31rules D D D D D you know Thou shalt not
19:35this or that but it doesn't say thou
19:36shalt not fornicate so I I just used to
19:38joke about that and it's it's a bad
19:41philosophy um I think that with Travis
19:45um there was part there was a part of me
19:46that felt really guilty because there
19:48was something inside that thought you're
19:50you're you know this is nice for instant
19:52gratification but you're destroying what
19:53you could have with Travis and that's
19:56why we we did pray about it we not by
19:59his bed once and
20:01um
20:03and surprisingly he suggested it
20:06normally you know we would I would
20:08suggest that we pray before we go on a
20:09trip or before we eat if we're alone
20:12that was kind of unusual for
20:13him yeah because he was very resistant
20:16to prayer with me I mean I think in
20:18church it would been fine and I feel
20:20that maybe
20:21because we we were driving away the
20:23spirit
20:25constantly um or maybe he felt that by
20:28invting the spirit he would feel guilty
20:30about later on in the evening or I don't
20:32know what the deal was or the excuse he
20:35used was because I'm a convert I need
20:36more practice saying prayers he's like
20:38so I'd say will you say a prayer he's
20:40like why don't you say a prayer I'm why
20:42don't you say a prayer why don't you say
20:43a prayer so we'd go back and forth and I
20:46don't know until I don't know it's just
20:49one time when I was on a trip with at
20:51hav aupai we were all getting on the
20:52road and I think Dan it was with Dan
20:55Freeman and his sister Desiree and they
20:57were all like um Jody will you say a
20:59prayer and I said sure and Travis was
21:03like anyway I I didn't want to argue
21:05with them so um anyway what was I saying
21:09well he's
21:12um you know the whole trust issue keeps
21:15coming back into my mind that was the
21:18big reason he was a he was a big time
21:20flirt and that's the one thing everybody
21:22says about him he flirts a lot um does
21:25he mean anything by it no not really
21:28just who he
21:29is um he did have you know girlfriends
21:32here or there and he was at a point in
21:34his life where he wanted to really start
21:37settling down he felt like he needed to
21:41kind of grow up you know become a
21:44husband become a father you know those
21:47that time had come and he felt that the
21:51time had come and gone and he was
21:52falling behind he told me that too he
21:55said he felt um like his time was
21:57running out I told him that you know
22:01despite the fact that he's not going to
22:02be in a singles War very much longer he
22:04still has a lot of options he's still a
22:06very eligible bachelor and he just
22:09didn't see it that way he's like you
22:10understand he's like that might be true
22:12but my chances are severely reduced once
22:14I turned 31 it was like this taking time
22:17well finding a a good Mormon girl you
22:20know was was difficult because in that
22:24church you know
22:26that most of the girls get married yeah
22:28early 20s yeah you know he said he
22:31didn't want to marry a girl in her early
22:3220s because he said that he noticed a
22:35lot of pattern the church with girls
22:37that married between 19 and 24 so to
22:39speak would would you know they'd start
22:42having babies and growing their family
22:45and um then they would look at their
22:47single girlfriends who are still having
22:48fun with no responsibilities and they
22:50would regret getting married and I think
22:51if you're strong in the church it's not
22:53so much a problem but yeah depends on
22:56who you surround yourself with too you
22:58surround yourself with the right people
23:00you know it's a different story but you
23:03know that's where he was and did you
23:06guys ever discuss possibly getting
23:08married or anything when we were dating
23:10we did okay once we broke up he brought
23:14it up he actually proposed to me a lot
23:17of times but he wasn't serious um I
23:20think he was he was serious once and it
23:23was when we broke up and um that was
23:26really hard because we were on the phone
23:28it was just like none of that stuff
23:30should be done on the phone anyway but I
23:31was hundreds of miles away and um I told
23:35him that I loved him we didn't say I
23:37love you during our relationship but we
23:38said it afterward it was weird Okay um
23:42um I said you know this isn't breaking
23:45up with him on the phone wasn't really
23:47the way I wanted to do it but it was
23:49kind of a situation that had just come
23:51to
23:52a a point where it just couldn't be
23:55ignored anymore and let's mve to after
23:57the break up
23:59oh okay what
24:02uh what kept you in Mesa at that
24:07point I actually moved to Mesa a few
24:09weeks after we broke up really mhm I
24:13mean as far as the timeline goes but I
24:16mean if you want to call it our official
24:17breakup shortly thereafter it's like we
24:20were still seeing each other so you guys
24:21were seeing each other but it was long
24:23distance type relationship it was always
24:25long distance when we were officially
24:27dating we didn't dat we dated from about
24:29the beginning of February to about the
24:31end of June so February March April May
24:34June about five months total okay June
24:37of 2007 you guys broke up and and then
24:40you moved to
24:41Mesa um yeah I moved to Mesa sort of
24:46most people when they break up they kind
24:48of go I know and it was and we plans
24:51were already in order for me to move
24:52there um I was already speaking with a
24:55friend who was you know was be her
24:58roommate and I was her roommate for a
25:00short time
25:03um she's kind of flighty she's a great
25:07girl though
25:09um I talked to Travis about maybe going
25:12to Southern California instead okay and
25:15he's really he's he's
25:20really persuasive he persuade you to
25:23stay there in Mesa he's he kind of was
25:26playing up all the advantages if I did
25:27come to up and if I did you know um he
25:32said you know it's it's a great place we
25:34could still see each other and hang out
25:36on occasion um this church is very
25:40strong you know you'll you'll make a lot
25:41of friends and I already knew all this
25:44stuff prior because I we talked about
25:46that
25:48um you know and so I went ahead and just
25:51made the move it sounded at the time
25:53like a good
25:54idea and you guys continued to kind of
25:57see each other at that time yeah at the
25:58time I was sort of living more across
26:00town over by greenfield do you know
26:01where that is it was up Greenfield near
26:04Broadway Greenfield Broadway where the
26:06nearest cross streets and that's where
26:07the girl that I was originally talking
26:09with I moved in with her yeah it's kind
26:11of far from yeah TR yeah um the thing
26:15about her and and just to give you a
26:17background of why I moved suddenly um
26:21she approached me the weekend after I
26:23got there and said hey she knocked on my
26:25door can I talk to you for a second I
26:26said sure and she moved in with her
26:27boyriend friend um and they were engaged
26:31okay and she said hey I just wanted to
26:32let you know that Scott and I went to
26:34Vegas last week in tied the knot and I
26:35was like really she's like yeah we
26:37haven't told anyone but we didn't want
26:38to live in sin so we're and she had
26:40already been sealed in the temple once
26:42and was waiting for her cancel or to
26:45ceing be yeah to be canell so they were
26:48going to have a civil wedding um on the
26:49beach in Oregon and they did that the
26:51following the following weekend she told
26:54me that on a Monday or Tuesday it was
26:57the beginning of the week and she said
26:59the reason I'm telling you that is
27:00because I'm getting married this weekend
27:02and I have to go out of town a few days
27:03ahead of Scott you know and make
27:05arrangements and now that he's a married
27:07man we don't feel it's right that you be
27:09here in the house she's I don't want to
27:11inconvenience you but is there any way
27:12you can stay with somebody else or just
27:13find another place the time I was
27:15waiting on a house in Gilbert because I
27:18already knew they were getting married
27:19so I was kind of looking anyway and
27:20there was a great girl named Brenda and
27:23she was waiting on her keys for the
27:24mortgage to go through and it was a
27:25great Ward it was a great house it was
27:27brand new um construction and all that
27:30was really nice um but she didn't get
27:31her keys for months and months I think
27:33she's in the house now but I don't know
27:34haven't talked to her um so I scrambled
27:38I went to The Institute I wrote down a
27:40bunch of phone numbers I called them all
27:42a lot of them I got voicemails um one
27:44girl that answered her name was Tiffany
27:46and she knew Travis and she was at his
27:48services in Arizona and um as well and
27:52we've just remained friends sort of like
27:54on MySpace and Facebook and that kind of
27:56thing but she said hey sorry that's
27:58posting I forgot to take it down but go
27:59to this website so ldsh housing.net I
28:01went there I made three phone calls um
28:04for the places that were within my price
28:05range I didn't think to look where they
28:07were um the one girl that called me back
28:09her name is Shannon derot she said
28:11here's my place here's the directions go
28:13ahead and go out and come see the house
28:15was available so we
28:17did go ahead you have to get that no
28:20okay um so I moved out there and when
28:23Travis found out it was so close to him
28:25he freaked out about it and I made made
28:28sure to check that it wasn't that that
28:31we wouldn't be in the same ward and it
28:32was within his Ward boundaries but it
28:34was also within another single's W
28:35boundaries so of course I'm going to go
28:36the other one because it would just be
28:37kind of weird I mean I didn't know about
28:41him and Lisa at first so I I don't know
28:45if they were even dating at that time I
28:47don't know what their whole timeline was
28:49um but it still would have been weird
28:51and it wouldn't have made during that
28:53time that he was seeing Lisa did you
28:55continue to see him as well yeah and I
28:58didn't know that he was seeing her okay
29:00but he would call you and have you come
29:02over yeah I know there was a time when
29:04you I guess were cleaning his house too
29:06for for extra money or something yeah I
29:08did that he hired you yeah I did that um
29:10because he knew that I was struggling
29:11and he he's like I've been doing the
29:14math and that happened pretty much right
29:15on I mean it started that started in
29:17August he's like I've done the math and
29:19I feel that I can be more protective um
29:22my time is more valuable than x out of
29:24dollars per hour so why don't I pay you
29:26this per hour and I'll work and you can
29:28make a little bit of money okay so that
29:30help that makes sense that was around
29:31the same time time frames at the move
29:34and back and forth it was like a few
29:35weeks after the move I was still living
29:38in with Rachel over on Greenfield okay
29:43before when that started and he sent me
29:45this picture and he's like this is your
29:47uniform have it by Friday or Thursday or
29:49whatever and it was this French made
29:51thing I was like no yeah that's him
29:53typical yeah like I said he's he's a
29:56very flirty guy and he is now obviously
30:01the Rachel relation or um notel Lisa
30:04relationship didn't work out and um and
30:08then there was a time period he really
30:09wasn't seeing anybody and then Mimi came
30:11into the picture um what did you think
30:14about her that I didn't know a lot about
30:16her she seems like a really nice girl he
30:18showed me her picture on Facebook you
30:20know I don't think she had a lot of
30:22pictures on there um he said that he's
30:26not sure why but he's pretty sure that
30:29she could be it and I was happy for him
30:33um I didn't find out about Le this
30:35conversation you had face to face with
30:36him yeah it was in his room um and he
30:40had his laptop you know just on his bed
30:42um I didn't find out about Lisa until
30:45after we BR we had this conversation
30:47where we decided to all just come clean
30:49um and that was quite a
30:52conversation um because I was never
30:55Unfaithful but there you know when we
30:57started dating that timeline around
30:59February the reason I remember February
31:02is because he had told me in December
31:04you know go date other people kind of
31:06thing and so I did um it was January
31:1010th that I went on a date with um my
31:13friend John for lunch we just went out
31:15and had sushi nothing romantic happened
31:17we didn't hold hands we didn't kiss
31:19think we huged and I guess it was
31:21considered a day because he asked me and
31:22I accepted and pay for it um and that
31:25was in Pasadena yeah if he pays for it
31:27today yeah yeah that was in Pasadena and
31:29the following evening I went out with my
31:32friend Abe and we he drinks he just got
31:35like um a maker Mark I think as what as
31:38his drink and I got cranberry juice and
31:41we just talked forever about it he
31:42talked about politics which is all these
31:43guys in the Marine Corps or something
31:45they're both in prepaid legal um John
31:47Dixon is not in prepa legal anymore he's
31:49moved on to other Ventures no but the uh
31:51the Marine Core are they in the service
31:53at all okay Abe is kind of he's a little
31:56bit older he's just sort of bus
31:58okay has a background in I don't
32:00remember production and this is during
32:02the time that you guys were broken up or
32:04still kind of going on I'm sorry this is
32:06before we started dating Okay the reason
32:08I say this is because he told me a few
32:10times he told me during that
32:11conversation too that he's like you seem
32:12to have a very convenient timeline for
32:14when we started dating because I I used
32:15to ask like when did we actually start
32:17dating because I figured if we ever made
32:19it to a year we might as well celebrate
32:20it um and he's like I'm not really sure
32:23and the reason I think it was February
32:262nd is because
32:28we do you know of Chris and Sky Hughes
32:32okay um I used to spend a lot of time at
32:34their house and um you know they're a
32:38wonderful family and uh sky was she
32:42she's somebody that I really opened up
32:44to and you know um I told her a little
32:48bit how I just wasn't sure about Travis
32:50at the time and and I I wasn't sure what
32:52was going on there and she wrote in this
32:54long letter or she didn't write a letter
32:57Travis wrote the letter but she um kind
32:59of got on his case and and I was and
33:02they told me all kinds of things about
33:03Travis that I
33:05wasn't aware of what kind of stuff are
33:07you talking about
33:11um they said if I don't get away from
33:14Travis I'm going to become just like
33:15Deanna which is his other
33:18ex-girlfriend
33:20um you know do you want to waste six
33:22years of your life waiting for him um
33:25because he can't Comm in he still tells
33:28Dan I love you and I was like what you
33:29know and that kind of thing yeah and and
33:31I truly believe he he he does love her
33:33still but he
33:35does had a he's what you call a player
33:39you know what that means yeah yeah he he
33:43kind of he doesn't
33:46girls but he can't make a
33:48commitment he portrays himself to be a
33:51certain
33:52way but he's really not okay he portrays
33:56himself to have a lot of money he's
33:59not he's got a lot of things he told me
34:02the first night that
34:03I the first night that I met him it was
34:07the second night it was at the mgym
34:08grany invited me to this executive
34:10director banquet and you know he was
34:13kind of talking about what his earnings
34:14were the last year and how he almost
34:16made his six figures and that kind of
34:18thing and then he leans in and he goes
34:20in this business you have to show off
34:21your money a little bit and then prepaid
34:22legal it is people want to see that
34:24you're actually being successful so you
34:26know he's done a good job it's about
34:28making money
34:30yeah um anyway what was I saying oh so
34:34Chris and Sky were just they by the end
34:36of the conversation they started calling
34:37me Diana and I was just like shocked I
34:40didn't want to I certainly the last
34:41thing I wanted how did you feel about
34:43that um my biggest concern was losing
34:46respect in their eyes because I really
34:49really looked up to them and um I
34:52thought it I would have laughed it off
34:53and I thought it was kind of funny but
34:54my big but I feared inside that I was
34:56losing that respect
34:58mhm um so when I talked to him next I
35:01was like uh you know what do I do what
35:04do I say and he ended up runting this
35:06long long long letter to Sky saying I
35:08just got off the phone with a very
35:09reluctant to talk to me jod you know and
35:13um she wrote back saying something to
35:16the effect like you know I wouldn't want
35:17my sister to date you um why do you kiss
35:21jod in the dark and then act like you
35:23guys aren't even together in the daytime
35:24things like that that's a good statement
35:28because that kind of sums up the
35:30relationship that you had with him it
35:33seems like he liked you he loved you he
35:37wanted to be with you but he
35:40was he was reluctant to make a a a
35:42commitment First
35:44St and truly he didn't think that you
35:46were marriage
35:48material and I don't know why not I mean
35:51I see you you're you're you're a
35:53wonderful girl you're you know you're
35:55struggling you're trying to to to make
35:58your way through life and I don't see
36:00why you guys couldn't have made it I
36:02think we're just we have we have very
36:05different philosophies on a lot of ways
36:07um we would argue about the dumbest
36:09things and like he would just want me to
36:12admit that he was right and I would
36:14happily do that that's a man thing
36:16that's and I would I should have just
36:18known better and admitted that I
36:19eventually learned how to argue with
36:21Travis and talk to my wife she's like
36:22okay fine you're right yeah eventually
36:25that's what what I began to do with him
36:27it's like the more I just agree with him
36:28the sooner the argument gets over and
36:29the sooner we can make up and the makeup
36:31was always great um but um there was so
36:35many times where I just couldn't wrap my
36:37mind around what he would I could but
36:39but I tried to get him to do the same
36:40for me like there was a time when I
36:41broke down on the way to La once when I
36:43was going to watch Chris Hughes do a
36:45training um and this was January um mid
36:49January maybe of 2007 and my my car got
36:52a flat tire so I had at the time
36:54roadside assistance because my car was
36:55still under warranty and they they went
36:57to take the car and to change the tire
36:59and realized that when they sold me the
37:00car they didn't give me the wheel lock
37:01key oh so for anti- theft there was
37:04wheel locks so I had to get a hotel room
37:06I had to get my car towed it was a big
37:07nightmare um and I was kind of hungry it
37:09was dinner time it was 7:38 and it was
37:12dark because it was January um the tow
37:16trk guy said you know there's a Denny's
37:17two blocks down here and there's a Jack
37:19In The Box there and he was driving me
37:20to the motel he said is there an IHOP
37:22around because I really like IHOP he's
37:23like yeah but it's kind of like five
37:24miles back in the other direction I was
37:27like okay he's like I can drive you
37:28there if you want and I was like he's
37:32like this short Mexican guy and he
37:35seemed really harmless and I was like uh
37:37okay and he you know and I asked him
37:38about his life and he had a wife and
37:41kids and so he wasn't flirting or he had
37:43a girlfriend or something I don't
37:44remember just trying to be nice to you
37:45just being nice and so I ended up
37:46telling and he didn't ever come on to me
37:49or ever say anything inappropriate and
37:51then he drove me back and dropped me off
37:52and that was that and
37:54um and I got to eat and so I told that
37:58to Travis and he didn't say anything at
37:59first but it got back to Sky and sky was
38:01like why didn't you call me and then I
38:03think eventually that was used against
38:04me to establish a pattern that I do
38:06weird things like that so um that's
38:09something we had arguments about a lot
38:11was um he's like I just think that so he
38:13was truly upset with you about that he
38:15felt a little jealous but it I it I he
38:19told me once that he's a little bit he
38:20was a little bit jealous when he found
38:22out that I went on those dates he's like
38:23but I know we're not dating and he's
38:25like guess I guess I am a little bit
38:26jealous but with these other incidences
38:29he said it just concerns him okay
38:31because he thinks that he thought that I
38:32would get myself into a situation where
38:34I'd get hurt because I have that sort of
38:36attitude and I was really since I joined
38:39prepaid I've been really trying to break
38:40out of my bubble and do things that are
38:42a little uncomfortable as far as
38:45um um talking to people and you know I
38:47made a resolution this year to overcome
38:49a few fears that I have um that I'm
38:52really scared of so I think that by
38:53getting into that a little then I can
38:57you you know overcome some of that um
39:00but his he did act jealous but he
39:03wouldn't say he was jealous he would
39:04just say he would tell other people
39:05about it what do you mean did he tell
39:07Sky Hughes oh yeah I guess it I may have
39:10told Sky about that but they probably
39:13had a conversation with them and he
39:14probably voiced as conversations um I
39:17know that him and Sky had a lot of
39:19fights and arguments and it was and I
39:21was the roote of that a lot of time but
39:24I think you know all in all they
39:26especially
39:28more recently they got along a lot
39:30better I think she gave them a really
39:32hard time about our relationship one of
39:35the reasons he really wanted to keep it
39:36under
39:39wraps so you know moving over
39:43to his trip to Cancun that he was going
39:47to um when did you first find out about
39:50that that he was going with M oh I
39:52didn't find I found out about that at
39:54his memorial
39:55services on Monday
39:58it was the Monday night memorial service
40:00so you didn't know that he was going to
40:02Cancun I knew he was going yeah you
40:04didn't know he was taking Mimi I didn't
40:06know that I think that's awesome
40:07actually yeah well unfortunately Mimi
40:10had called him a week or two
40:13before and I told him look if you want
40:16to take somebody else it's fine but I
40:18have something to tell you I don't look
40:20at you that way I don't look at you as a
40:24boyfriend if you want to be friends we
40:26can be friends
40:28and that really broke his heart I know
40:30um I mean he didn't tell me that but I
40:33found out from his Bishop afterward when
40:34I talked to his Bishop And he as Bishop
40:37did say that Travis really took that one
40:39hard and he said he took it to heart and
40:41he said he realizes that it's speaking
40:44from a Bishop's perspective he said it's
40:46because you know Mimi is is of a certain
40:49caliber when it comes to her
40:50spirituality and Travis was just in
40:52another place he's struggling and that's
40:53something he struggled with for a long
40:55time well I feel I feel responsible for
40:58that partly why do you feel responsible
41:00because I wasn't I mean I moved away but
41:03I had participated with him and so many
41:05things that kept us both down
41:07spiritually for a long time I mean if I
41:09had just cut ties completely I could
41:11probably be married right now I could
41:13probably be working on my own family
41:17um what kept do that what what kept you
41:20to
41:21him I don't understand well moving is
41:25expensive for one so once I was there I
41:27was kind of stuck there um why do you
41:30continue to go back to him you know what
41:32he wants you know that it's not healthy
41:35but yet you continue to go back and it
41:38brings us to this point where we are
41:42now okay I
41:46mean I guess I I physically you keep
41:50saying you knew that it that it wasn't
41:52healthy and and you knew it was
41:54contributing to something that wasn't
41:56good I think at the time you guys
41:58continue to do it yeah and part of that
42:01part of my um perspective now has to do
42:04with the fact that I'm going through a
42:06repentance process that I've worked out
42:08with you know with my bishop and he's
42:11given me you know certain scriptures to
42:12read and and Ponder and pray about and
42:15it just it brings me back to where I was
42:18prior to all that um I don't know how
42:21much I ever really was there as much as
42:23I am now because even before I was
42:25baptized even the two days before I was
42:28baptized four days was on Wednesday and
42:31I was baptized on Sunday um before
42:33Thanksgiving and it was just like like
42:35Travis and I were making out and you
42:37know that was Prior that we hadn't gone
42:40all the way at that point but was just
42:42too far and I called in that evening and
42:44I said how I didn't it just it felt
42:47different the first few times was like
42:48hey that was great you know whatever and
42:50then it just felt different this time
42:52and it was right before I was about to
42:53be baptized and you know I already had
42:56my interview and and so it was
42:59like it was just different and he said
43:01well yeah he's like I feel the same way
43:03and I think that's the spirit you know
43:05telling us this that or the other and so
43:08um I think that by driving the spirit
43:10away so much you just get into this
43:13pattern of of I don't know it was just
43:17it was conen there was a couple times
43:19where I didn't answer his text messages
43:22and he would send me little sad faces
43:24or eventually he would wait and would
43:27call and then he would call again and if
43:28I didn't answer he'd call three times
43:30and obviously you guys kept this
43:31relationship hidden from everybody else
43:33and
43:35uh cuz nobody really knew about it well
43:38there were some people who who I talked
43:41to and said yeah they continued to have
43:42a relationship even after they broke up
43:45and there are others who who are saying
43:47that you had become obsessive with him
43:51to the point to where you would uh go
43:53into his house when he wasn't there or
43:56when you wer inv
43:57and and he would talk to people saying
44:00you know she just kind of showed up and
44:03I don't want to tell her to leave but
44:05uh you know I don't want her here oh
44:09there were that was must have been early
44:11on because there were a couple times
44:13when we established a rule early on just
44:15don't you know don't come over and let
44:17he said you can come over anytime but I
44:18need to know first yes he's like you
44:20just never know cuz you ran into
44:22somebody one time right didn't you run
44:23into like one of his ex-girlfriends as
44:25well or or was it d
44:28oh yeah um well that was I was that was
44:30okay that I was there he asked me to
44:31stay there and um be with Napoleon
44:34because that was during uh conference
44:36General Conference in October of last
44:37year um he took a road trip with some
44:39friends from his church to Utah and um
44:42unless he's going to California he
44:44pretty much leaves Napoleon at home and
44:47so he needed someone to be there and
44:51it's like I got Full House privileges I
44:52could sleep in the bed I could eat you
44:54know food and I talked to her and she
44:56said that was kind of an unusual kind of
44:58situation she didn't expect you to be
45:00there she didn't at all and so first I
45:02was like
45:03well I was like did you give Dan any any
45:07you know Flack over coming over
45:08unannounced because we had just set this
45:10Rule and he's like I talked to her about
45:12it he's like but I'll tell you what I
45:13was on the phone for three hours with
45:15her she was freaking out that you were
45:17there and
45:19um I think the more that we the more
45:22people knew about us associating The
45:24more stress we both got from it and so
45:27um it was just easier to try and keep it
45:29a secret and we we didn't always do a
45:31good job at that I think his roommates
45:33may have seen or heard some things
45:37um but they were kind of keep to
45:39themselves ties so we didn't worry too
45:41much about
45:42them there was actually one roommate
45:44John heworth who ended up marrying
45:47remarrying his his same wife and moved
45:49back to Utah and um he I was cleaning
45:54his house one day and John told me he's
45:58like you know Travis is dating and I
46:03said okay and I assumed he was you know
46:07going on dates and things he's like no
46:09he's really trying to date and
46:13um and I said okay and he's like he he's
46:16desperate to get married and I said I
46:19know that's true and he's like I just
46:21wanted to tell you that because I I
46:22don't think he's being honest with you
46:24and I was like okay so that night um you
46:27know I confronted him about it and we
46:29had a really big fight it was also just
46:31just a bunch of things were thrown in
46:33the mix together and and then we and and
46:36I he said listen I'm not dating
46:38anyone um but he was very angry at John
46:43for getting into his
46:44business um he told John in a very nice
46:47way I think hey I I know that you have
46:50probably have good intentions but just
46:52you know mind your own business kind of
46:54thing and from then on John I don't
46:57think John really said
47:03anything and that was that was in
47:06October I think you've kind of given me
47:08a really good uh rundown of your
47:10relationship and um how you guys thought
47:14of each other and stuff and and I was
47:16pretty pretty close to write on with my
47:19with my theory on how you guys you know
47:21why you contined to see each other and
47:23what was going on during that time um I
47:26think there's some other things that
47:27you're not telling me I think I think
47:30maybe you
47:31were the jealousy probably continued
47:34even after the fact that you moved away
47:37um for instance the
47:41uh was it the week of the well the first
47:45week of of
47:47June you took a trip to solake
47:50City remember that trip we talked about
47:52oh this year I I'm thinking back um you
47:56you had left left I think it was like a
47:58Monday left Monday June 2nd Monday June
48:012nd and morning or afternoon or
48:04something I can't remember what late
48:05morning I think it was morning okay and
48:07you'd gone down to reading and rented a
48:09car um where did you rent that car uh
48:12the reading airport okay do you remember
48:14what car company it was it I don't
48:17remember the rental company but I
48:18remember the nak model it was a Ford
48:20Focus yeah I got that from other people
48:23in Utah they said you sh up in a Ford
48:24Focus uh it was white four
48:27no um cruise control I like road trips
48:32cruise control is good you don't
48:35remember what company it
48:37was uh who rented it maybe I did was it
48:40was your credit card or okay yeah I
48:43could look it up and so you took a trip
48:47and you decided to go
48:49to um instead of going over to Utah you
48:52went straight down to Los Angeles area I
48:54went to Santa Cruz first Santa Cruz M
48:57and then I stayed the night in Monteray
48:59and the next day I drove to acaden okay
49:03waiting for Laura to call me back you
49:05didn't contact her at all uh she
49:07contacted me finally after IID already
49:09left it was too late you already and we
49:11had plans to to do that again this we
49:13and which route did you take from from
49:16there I was supposed to get on the
49:1815 and go all the way
49:21up and I somehow got off the 15 where
49:25did you end
49:27um for a while I was lost and I'm not
49:30above sleeping in the car so I slept for
49:32a while I'm a heavy sleeper and I sleep
49:34a lot so but you were on the 15 for a
49:36while and you ended up getting off the
49:3815 somewhere yeah I I I looked at a map
49:40and I'm pretty sure I know where I went
49:42I went can I draw your map
49:48sure because I eventually started seeing
49:50signs um for Phoenix and I was like and
49:53it was several hundred miles away still
49:55like that's weird where am I going um so
49:58you have California Los
50:00Angeles
50:03and um Nevada Arizona
50:07Utah and I was supposed to go somewhere
50:09right up here oh on the Lefty so the 15
50:13kind of does one of these yeah goes
50:16through let's say Las Vegas right here
50:19oh yeah I'm sorry I'm my that's okay
50:22that's okay so we'll just put just put I
50:24just I know it cuts through our Zone in
50:26the corner
50:27um Las Vegas um St George is somewhere
50:32here and
50:36then the 40 runs somewhere this way
50:39because somehow I ended up on the
50:4240 and when I saw the 40 I'm like the
50:45only thing I associate with the 40 is
50:47Flagstaff and Flagstaff is somewhere in
50:50Utah I mean north north northern Arizona
50:54and so um and it was I was going east
50:57and I was like this isn't this what's
50:59going on here I just I wasn't going the
51:00right way and so
51:02I um I've had for the last two years
51:06I've had a car that has a GPS system in
51:09it it's really good and um it I think it
51:12Ser it hasn't served me as far as
51:15getting a sense of direction when I
51:16moved to Palm Desert yeah you kind of
51:18rely on it a little too much too much in
51:20fact when I moved when I moved in with
51:24the the last place I lived in Arizona I
51:26did not how close it was to Travis I
51:28didn't realize um I have a very bad
51:31sense of direction and it wasn't
51:34until I began to I use my GPS the whole
51:37time I was there pretty much just to
51:38find things um anyway so I got
51:43back I looked at the map quest that I I
51:46Map Quest a bunch of places I was maybe
51:48going to go to Death Valley um I was
51:50maybe going to did you actually cross
51:51over into Arizona is that how far you
51:53went I crossed over twice I think my map
51:56was wrong because the 93 goes north and
51:58then I hit the 15 again and then I got
52:01here and then I hit
52:03Arizona and then went here it the
52:06somehow I got North on the 93 okay and
52:09then I hit the
52:1015 so I mean I don't know where Phoenix
52:13is and Mesa it's got to be over here
52:15yeah I didn't go anywhere near there so
52:18you you took this trip and you left
52:22on was it
52:24Monday the second
52:28right and you didn't get to Utah
52:32until Thursday you told me yeah I got to
52:35Utah on Thursday so Thursday and that's
52:38the
52:415th yeah I think so it's Monday that's
52:44Tuesday Wednesday Thursday
52:47yeah okay so we
52:49have it's like 48 hours there that well
52:53obviously three days but there's plent
52:56there's 48 hours so this trip took you
52:58little over 48
53:00Hours um I have a problem with this trip
53:04well I went first too yeah I know I know
53:07you went down here I mean
53:09obviously
53:11my right there beautiful little place
53:15here except it's kind of Smokey and I
53:17can't see the views I was hoping to see
53:19some mountains but you really should
53:21take out chest to get the okay I've gone
53:24over this trip over and over in my mind
53:27and on
53:28paper and even
53:32if there's still 20 some OD
53:35hours even if you pulled over to
53:39sleep a couple of times oh did I tell
53:42you that I got stranded yeah okay you
53:45mentioned that if you slept for 10 hours
53:48I only slept for about here and here it
53:50would still
53:52leave 18 some odat hours
53:57or something else okay this is what
54:00people are focusing on as this trip that
54:03you took because they're saying she left
54:05she didn't get to till
54:10Thursday
54:13Wednesday some TRS was
54:19killed I did not go near his house isn't
54:22there aren't there I pull your shell
54:25records cell phone was turned off
54:28between
54:29here and
54:31here okay but the last place it pulled
54:37it was
54:39here the next place it turned on was
54:43here what does that show me oh well I
54:47began oh no no no is there plenty of
54:50time for you to do that
54:52yes and I do I believe that you had come
54:56to visit Travis
54:58yes I truly believe
55:02it did you have the opportunity yes you
55:04were traveling alone there's no other
55:06Witnesses your phone just happened to
55:08turn off from here to here well I didn't
55:10turn it off physically but it
55:12died and then it magically you you found
55:16your charger here it was it was under
55:18the packed under the seat of the
55:19passenger side and it was when I was
55:21when you were lost you couldn't have
55:23maybe pulled over and found it or well I
55:25did finally start looking when I was
55:27stranded I wouldn't I wouldn't have
55:29pulled over when I was
55:30lost okay this I've been focusing on
55:33this and going over and over my
55:36mind why this happened why your phone
55:39turns off here outside of Los
55:43Angeles what city is that cuz I got as
55:46far as there no cities there's Towers oh
55:49okay well I got there's Towers dotted
55:51all over this place yeah one tower hit
55:53here the other Tower here on the 993
55:57there is no way somebody can get on that
56:0015 and magically get on that
56:0293 cuz that 15 goes right to Las
56:06Vegas right there and continues this way
56:09it never goes to Arizona again I I got
56:11off before Las Vegas
56:15okay I didn't get that the 15 you'd have
56:18to go to Las Vegas and then come down
56:20south go through Boulder City I went
56:24through Boulder City going north
56:27did you cross over the
56:29uh the
56:32dam you didn't think that was odd you
56:34were crossing in over AR well after I I
56:36figured out it was lost by then and I
56:37found I found the 93 and then found my
56:40way back to the 15 and this Tower here
56:43it's not just over the Border in Arizona
56:46it's quite a distance inside of Arizona
56:49that it hit because there is a mountain
56:51range all along
56:55here and if you're on this side of the
56:57mountain range pretty good distance that
57:00signal is not going to come not going to
57:01hit UT or
57:04Utah or Nevada or California it's only
57:07going to hit in Arizona well I had
57:10somehow gotten off the 15 and gone on to
57:11the 40 is what happened well the only
57:15way you can get on the
57:1640 is if after you cross the bridge or
57:22the uh the dam I think I got on the 40
57:24in California
57:28from the
57:3015th well like because I had actually
57:32gotten I actually began to drive the 10
57:34West would you see what I'm saying the
57:36confusion that we're
57:38having and and we'll come back to this
57:41well I got on the 40 somewhere over here
57:45in California yeah and continued to
57:47drive this way realized I was not in the
57:50right place at all and then I got on to
57:53the the 93 North and then I hit the 15
57:56and then I went through Las Vegas and
57:57then St George and then on T
58:00okay that still doesn't make any sense
58:02to me and I can pull them outs and show
58:05them to you and you can go over and over
58:07and over again but I don't think you're
58:09being completely honest with me about
58:12about that trip I honestly got
58:15lost it's it's bad

58:23Wednesday absolutely not I was was
58:26nowhere near Mesa was nowhere near no
58:33Phoenix I wasn't even close to
58:37him um what if I could show you proof
58:40you were
58:44there would that change your
58:46mind I wasn't there you to be honest
58:49with you J I was not at Travis's house
58:54was not
58:56you were at Travis's
58:58house you guys had a sexual
59:02encounter which there's
59:05pictures I know you know there's
59:07pictures because I have
59:11them I will show them to
59:14you
59:16okay
59:18so what I'm asking you is for you to be
59:21honest with
59:22me I know you were there
59:28are you sure those pictures aren't from
59:29another time
59:33positive absolutely
59:38positive the last time I had any kind of
59:41sexual contact with Travis was in
59:49April remember I told you about the
59:51camera
59:53mhm that camera was damaged
59:57someone put it in a washing machine ran
1:00:00it through a wash
1:00:02cycle with some clothes of
1:00:05travises but the card's
1:00:08intact remember I told you that card was
1:00:12destroyed I didn't want to tell you the
1:00:15truth cuz I wanted to make sure those
1:00:18photos were accurate and we can pull
1:00:21deleted
1:00:22photos I don't care if you delete them
1:00:26six months ago we can pull every photo
1:00:28that was ever on there pull the little
1:00:30pixels
1:00:31together get the time stamps on them not
1:00:34all of them but most of them have time
1:00:36stamps on them and we can verify those
1:00:38timestamps and I have pictures of you in
1:00:41Travis's bedroom with Travis pictures of
1:00:45him
1:00:46and it's obvious you guys are having
1:00:49sex taking photos of each other and
1:00:54they're dated and stamped on the day he
1:00:58died are you sure it's me I mean that
1:01:01cuz I was not there it's
1:01:04you and you know it's
1:01:08you I know all the details of this case
1:01:12the only thing I don't know is
1:01:14why why did you choose to go visit
1:01:17Travis that
1:01:21day and why did you do what you did
1:01:26never TR this you
1:01:31did you hurt
1:01:34him that's why we're
1:01:36here that's why I flew up
1:01:39here because I needed to talk to you
1:01:41about
1:01:43this I can just arrest you and throw you
1:01:45in jail
1:01:46but I want to know why why did you do
1:01:49this to him I wouldn't hurt Travis he's
1:01:52done so much for me
1:01:56there's so much evidence in that
1:01:58house so much and it all points to you I
1:02:03I lived
1:02:04there I was there for months and months
1:02:07and
1:02:14months I know you took pictures of him
1:02:16in a
1:02:18shower just before he
1:02:20died I don't think he would allow
1:02:24that and the camera actually took a
1:02:27couple of photos by
1:02:29accident during the time he was being
1:02:31killed really yeah Joey really you were
1:02:37there quit playing this game it's time

1:34:40they can be modifing things I don't

1:34:44special care of what we do I know we
1:34:48actually take an image of that card or
1:34:50let's say you get a computer take an
1:34:52image of that drive and make a copy of
1:34:54it we don't even touch your hard drive
1:34:58we just work with the
1:35:00copy and that's exactly what we do with
1:35:03the photos we don't work with the
1:35:04originals we just make a exact digital
1:35:08copy of everything move it over so we
1:35:11don't touch it and then we analyze it
1:35:14and our guys are so
1:35:16good every case I've ever done that I
1:35:19know of has never been lost in court
1:35:22it's been argued and aru and argued
1:35:24there is no way that they duplicate or
1:35:28that they enhance or that they change or
1:35:30that they do anything to a
1:35:35photo if I found guilty what
1:35:38happens I don't have to pay the price
1:35:40well what's the price I don't know don't
1:35:44you know what the sentences are that
1:35:46they sentences that are carried for
1:35:47something it depends on your
1:35:50situation how old you
1:35:52are depends on the type of
1:35:56crime it depends on whether you show
1:35:59remorse or
1:36:01not and part of that remorse is at least
1:36:04coming
1:36:06clean when somebody doesn't come
1:36:10clean I don't see any
1:36:13remorse I don't know if a judge would
1:36:15see any remorse I don't know if a jury
1:36:17would see any
1:36:19remorse but I don't know that's not from
1:36:22me to decide

1:36:27investigate find out who did it why they
1:36:30did it and present it to a court and
1:36:34that's it I just can't

1:43:33saying somebody took your your pictures
1:43:36or your card and is framing you and put
1:43:41that into his camera I'm just saying
1:43:43that if if my memory cards were left at
1:43:45his house he could he would have used
1:43:46those for his

1:43:56explain the hair I don't know about the
1:43:59I can't explain the blood or the hair

1:44:02hair there's hair everywhere and
1:44:05probably every square inch of that house
1:44:07my hair you sweep it you'll get hair
1:44:09everywhere all over around the toilet
1:44:10around in the show I don't know about
1:44:12the shower cuz the shower gets used but
1:44:13definitely around the bottom of the um
1:44:16the sink area maybe still doesn't
1:44:19explain the hair to me it had a follicle
1:44:20in it you haven't been there since ail
1:44:24there's no
1:44:25way no
1:44:29way the
1:44:32blood no well blood is mixed with his
1:44:36and that's the blood that he that he
1:44:38bled that day when he was killed
1:44:41well print I don't know Abol if you can
1:44:44check how fresh the blood was no we
1:44:46can't check how fresh it is but we can
1:44:48go by where it is oh okay cuz I cut
1:44:51myself when I and
1:44:53you and you're saying that that
1:44:57blood that you cut yourself with back
1:45:00who knows when was still on the wall in
1:45:04the exact same spot oh I don't know
1:45:07where the where the bloody palm print
1:45:13was it was a glass that Javis had that I
1:45:16was using to wash Napoleon with I used
1:45:18to give him B and I dropped it and when
1:45:21I picked up all the glass and I'm pretty
1:45:23casual about it cuz I break glass at
1:45:24work all the time and it's not a big
1:45:26deal it's nothing to be scared of I was
1:45:28probably just being careless with it and
1:45:30I spliced myself open and is that how
1:45:33you want to leave
1:45:34this just these far-fetched excuses on
1:45:38why your blood is there why your hair is
1:45:40there why your palm print is there what
1:45:42pictures are there I don't know about
1:45:45the pictures that's how you want to
1:45:46leave this I wouldn't want
1:45:50to I seriously would not want to
1:45:55you need to come out and tell me why
1:45:58this happened I will not accept any
1:46:01other
1:46:03excuses I will just move on with my
1:46:05investigation with my final report
1:46:08submitting all the conclusions and all
1:46:11the
1:46:11evidence and we can just let a judge and
1:46:14a jury
1:46:16decide you yourself said that if you
1:46:18were in my shoes you would think that I
1:46:20was guilty
1:46:25we can leave it in the hands jury test
1:46:28we can do that that's fine would that
1:46:30help me at all I mean you can't use them
1:46:33in cord but well then there's no point
1:46:35in taking
1:46:36it I thought those things can be used in
1:46:40certain cases in this case if you want I
1:46:42can
1:46:43check absolutely if I passed the lie
1:46:45detector test would that help

1:47:29we're going to ask to extradite you to

1:47:33permission for you to bring you over
1:47:36because you're out of state
1:47:37limits and the next time we talk could
1:47:39be in a whole different setting could be
1:47:42in a jail
1:47:46somewhere I think this setting is a
1:47:48little bit
1:47:51better but it's up to
1:47:54you Jody I know you were
1:47:58there I
1:48:02know that Travis was
1:48:05either in the shower or just outside the
1:48:07shower when he was
1:48:09shot and I know somebody who was
1:48:11extremely angry at
1:48:15him took a knife to
1:48:19him and couldn't stop
1:48:23you couldn't
1:48:25stop and before you knew it it was all
1:48:27over and then you
1:48:30panicked and then I would I've never
1:48:33been angry that angry at him not enough
1:48:35for that I've been so far angrier at
1:48:37other people at other
1:48:40ex-boyfriends then tell me who could
1:48:41have done
1:48:44this who did this I don't know but if I
1:48:48am if I go to trial for this and if I'm
1:48:51convicted for this whoever did this is
1:48:53going to be sitting very pretty
1:48:54somewhere glad that it wasn't them and
1:48:57it's my job to make sure that an
1:49:00innocent person does not go to
1:49:03jail but I don't see an innocent person
1:49:05sitting in front of
1:49:08me when I asked you I always I always
1:49:11asked this one
1:49:13question actually it's two first one is
1:49:16did you kill trugs and you kind of
1:49:19hesitated a little say I I didn't have
1:49:21anything to do with
1:49:23then I asked you similar question did
1:49:26you have anything to do with Travis's
1:49:30death you hesitated again that's because
1:49:33I feel like if I had gone to Arizona
1:49:36like most people would say no did you
1:49:40kill Travis no well I didn't and I
1:49:43didn't have anything to do with it now
1:49:45do I feel responsible I've been carrying
1:49:47around guilt since I heard about it why
1:49:49do you feel responsible if you felt
1:49:51responsible it means you know something
1:49:53else no because means your actions led
1:49:55to his death cuz he always has guilted
1:49:57me he's always guilted me and the last
1:50:01time so you feel somebody else you feel
1:50:02somebody else killed him well yeah for
1:50:05what reason I don't know I don't know
1:50:07that then how do you feel guilty because
1:50:09if you don't know the reason here's why
1:50:11I feel guilty the one of the last times
1:50:13we spoke he was guilty me about not
1:50:16coming to see him and part of my heart
1:50:18still wanted to go see him and another
1:50:20part just wants to move on and
1:50:23and pursue this new Avenue which was in
1:50:26Utah and there is a tinge of guilt you
1:50:30know when he would text me and he would
1:50:31say hey want to come over and make out
1:50:33or want
1:50:34to
1:50:36um I didn't respond one night and I just
1:50:40stayed strong and I didn't respond and
1:50:42then he called and called and called and
1:50:44then the next day he was like you don't
1:50:47care about me you don't love me you
1:50:50don't care I was there all alone and you
1:50:53didn't want to come and hang out you
1:50:54didn't want to come and keep me company
1:50:56and he says it not like that but in that
1:50:58tone but it's in the sweetest sweetest
1:51:00way and it's it's it's guilt
1:51:04um I still don't get the guilt I really
1:51:07don't you keep explaining it but it has
1:51:09nothing to do with whether he because he
1:51:11guil was killed or not he how is you
1:51:14being there going to prevent him from
1:51:16being
1:51:16killed well I kind of feel that if I had
1:51:19gone that we could have been up watch
1:51:22ing a movie or we could have two people
1:51:24could have done something more than just
1:51:27him I just feel like if if if there was
1:51:30some way that I I could have prevented
1:51:32it there's some way that I could have
1:51:33done something to stop it and I told
1:51:35that to a few people and they're like
1:51:37well you might have been killed too
1:51:39maybe but maybe Travis would still be
1:51:46alive Travis has done a lot for me and I
1:51:49wouldn't hurt
1:51:51him he introduced The Gospel to
1:51:54me well I have proof that says otherwise

1:52:06proof and that proof is not pointing at
1:52:09anybody else

1:52:52our stops on the way was Roswell after
1:52:55he drove all night and I slept and then
1:52:58when after Roswell Museum it was my turn
1:53:00to drive and he's like just get on this
1:53:02and drive 98 something miles and then we
1:53:05should be there so I got on the road and
1:53:07I drove 98.6 or two or whatever miles it
1:53:11was and I woke him up and I said I don't
1:53:13think we're here and he woke up looked
1:53:15around it was just like rolling Fields
1:53:17Forever and I drove completely in the
1:53:20wrong direction and I'm
1:53:24saying I don't know I'm just saying I
1:53:27have a poor sense of direction I got
1:53:28totally
1:53:29lost I know maybe that's just bad luck I
1:53:32got totally lost no even if you got
1:53:34totally lost doesn't explain all that
1:53:37time it does not I mean if you went four
1:53:41hours here or five hours in the wrong
1:53:43direction it still well at one point I
1:53:45wasn't going anywhere cuz I ran out of
1:53:47gas I was totally stranded
1:53:54I was sitting like a Sitting Duck and
1:53:56that's when I began it was it was a
1:53:57little bit warm and it wasn't too hot
1:54:00but um that's when I just I read for a
1:54:03little bit I already slept um and that's
1:54:06when I just started looking around the
1:54:08car and organizing stuff and getting
1:54:11trash together and had a couple bites to
1:54:13eat from snacks that I had and when I
1:54:15was cleaning out under the seat I found
1:54:16my phone charger plugged it in powered
1:54:18it on there was no cell phone reception
1:54:20anywhere so you've never seen his camera
1:54:24his new camera I don't know he described
1:54:26it did you ever touch his
1:54:29camera I've never seen it okay so
1:54:32there's no reason your fingerprint
1:54:33should be on it okay cuz that thing's
1:54:36off at a lab right now and they're
1:54:40hopeful that they can get some prints
1:54:41off the camera okay and if your prints
1:54:43come back on that camera what are you
1:54:44going to
1:54:46say well they won't come back on it cuz
1:54:48I've never touched it
1:54:56that you still can't explain the rest of
1:54:58this
1:54:59stuff I honestly can't explain the
1:55:01pictures the other stuff and or the palm
1:55:03print the other stuff I can explain no
1:55:05you can't explain the blood
1:55:07either because that blood is in blood I
1:55:10mean it's it's part of the
1:55:13print unless you cut
1:55:16yourself at the beginning of the year
1:55:18and left your palm print in Blood and it
1:55:20stayed there until he was killed I cut
1:55:23myself it wasn't the beginning of the
1:55:25year it was before convention no you
1:55:27can't explain
1:55:29it i' I'd have to say early March that
1:55:33palm print is
1:55:34there in blood partially yours and
1:55:38partially
1:55:42his is is it possible that there's just
1:55:45like any other way in the universe that
1:55:47that could have gotten there
1:55:50possible probably is the question you
1:55:53need to ask probable is absolutely not
1:55:56probable I understand that but it is
1:55:59possible anything is
1:56:05possible that is very
1:56:09compelling that's why I'm here that's
1:56:11why I traveled here CU I came here to
1:56:14arrest
1:56:16you and get an explanation from you
1:56:19that's the second reason and since
1:56:21you're not giving me an explanation I
1:56:23guess we'll just continue with the with
1:56:24the uh I just have no reason to hurt

1:56:30there's a whole history of you two and
1:56:33everybody knows it I have a whole
1:56:35history with other guys that why why is
1:56:37everybody saying that you had something
1:56:39to do with his
1:56:41death why is everybody saying that you
1:56:43were capable of hurting him everybody
1:56:46says it I don't know why any so don't
1:56:48tell me that you're not capable I don't
1:56:50even hurt spiders
1:56:55have you ever had any anger issues
1:56:57before never in your
1:57:01past I've had arguments Trav well
1:57:04everybody has arguments I'm talking
1:57:06about anger just absolute
1:57:09anger you just you lose it sometimes no
1:57:12I had a nervous breakdown once you taken
1:57:15any medication or
1:57:18anything well I had a nervous breakdown
1:57:20when a boyfriend and I were arguing once
1:57:23and
1:57:24um and he he began to argue with me in a
1:57:28way that was totally different from how
1:57:30we had ever argued before and he was
1:57:32just like every time I'd say something
1:57:34he was like you know it was kind of
1:57:36weird like every time I tried to
1:57:39formulate a thought and I was just sad
1:57:41and I was crying every time I tried to
1:57:42formulate thought he would interject and
1:57:45and twist it and it was like the
1:57:46weirdest psychological thing that had
1:57:49ever happened and and the way I reacted
1:57:53was I I went into my room who's the guy
1:57:55I bought a house with um I went into my
1:57:58room and shut the door we had separate
1:58:00bedrooms and I was in in his room I went
1:58:03down the hall into my room and shut the
1:58:04door and I just remember
1:58:06hyperventilating and that's
1:58:08all I I was crying and then um I went to
1:58:12get something out of my
1:58:13car and when he saw that he um maybe
1:58:17thought I was going to leave so he asked
1:58:18me for the key to his truck and pulled
1:58:19behind my car cuz he thought that
1:58:21because I was upset I shouldn't drive
1:58:23anywhere but I mean
1:58:25that's I would been arguments no anger
1:58:34issues that I can
1:58:37remember I kicked a dog
1:58:41once I was a freshman in high
1:58:44school and I love love love
1:58:50animals and one we had this dog his name
1:58:54was doggy boy and my parents until this
1:58:56dog that they have now have never been
1:58:58able to and I don't mean just them we as
1:59:01a family have never been able to care
1:59:02for a dog properly as far as give it
1:59:04attention and take it for walks and be
1:59:06consistent um so this dog stayed in the
1:59:08backyard a lot and he stayed tied up on
1:59:10you know in the shade with plenty of you
1:59:12know leeway at one point though he was
1:59:14untied and I took the trash out and he
1:59:19and this is when my little brother and
1:59:20sister were still in diapers and he tore
1:59:22this it was a diaper trash and he tore
1:59:25diapers all over the yard and of course
1:59:28I had to clean it up and when diapers
1:59:30get wet and they're like this jelly
1:59:32spongy weird stuff and I just I got mad
1:59:37and I I just kicked him with my right
1:59:39foot and he just moved a few feet and he
1:59:42didn't Yelp or anything but he just
1:59:44went he ran away and I never saw him
1:59:47came for that and I mean that's probably
1:59:51an anger issue I guess yes but well one
1:59:53time kicking a dog is an anger issue it
1:59:56changed my world as far as animal
1:59:58treatment goes CU I
2:00:00just I've never seen him
2:00:04since and I need to apologize for that
2:00:07to him I know it sounds weird in my
2:00:08relationship with animals it's kind of
2:00:10like they're like people too you know
2:00:11they have
2:00:12souls what you need to do is you need to
2:00:14apologize to
2:00:16Travis you just refuse I can't help you
2:00:20anymore if you're not going if you're
2:00:22not going to help

2:01:31finished the book The Real D traveled
2:01:33and he said um the true definition of
2:01:36Sanity is dedication to reality at all
2:01:39costs so I think at times you know I may
2:01:42have you know prayed or meditated upon a
2:01:45certain way you know like like me being
2:01:49um wealthy or something like that but
2:01:54well this is definitely reality we are
2:01:57sitting here inside of an
2:02:00office the sheriff's department and you
2:02:03are facing first degree murder
2:02:06charges what you
2:02:08are going to be booked into jail and
2:02:11eventually you will be brought back to
2:02:13Arizona and you will stand
2:02:17trial that's the reality and once you
2:02:19realize that I think you'll be better
2:02:21for
2:02:25and if you really wanted to embrace
2:02:26reality you would sit here and explain
2:02:28to me why this
2:02:30happened but you refuse you refuse to
2:02:32embrace reality why I don't know why he
2:02:35was
2:02:36killed I don't know why I had issues
2:02:39with Travis if anything he had more
2:02:41issues with me um I've had worse issues
2:02:46with other people they're all still
2:02:47alive I'm still friends with my
2:02:49ex-boyfriends they're all still alive
2:02:51know I've been doing this a long
2:02:54time and there's one thing that I can
2:02:57never get out of my head ever since the
2:03:00first day I talked to you is there's an
2:03:03old saying that you know someone's just
2:03:07not acting right look into it you have
2:03:11not acted right from day
2:03:13one from day one when I talk to you on
2:03:16that phone I just sensed that you just
2:03:20you weren't acting like somebody who
2:03:21used to love this guy or who still loved
2:03:24him even as a close
2:03:26friend and even now when I told you that
2:03:29I have all this evidence against you
2:03:32and and that you're facing first degree
2:03:34mder charges
2:03:36you're you're just not acting right Jody
2:03:40you're acting like somebody who's
2:03:43guilty
2:03:48so you tell me
2:03:52I know because I've been doing it a long
2:03:53time it's taking me a long time to to
2:03:56figure it
2:03:57out but within the
2:04:00first 30 seconds to a minute of a
2:04:02conversation I can I know when
2:04:04somebody's acting right there's a
2:04:05certain way people act how did I act it
2:04:08it's not it's not like TV it's not
2:04:11anything like that it's not what you see
2:04:12in the movies I see
2:04:15reality when I accuse somebody of
2:04:18committed a heinous crime or you know
2:04:21something very
2:04:23serious reality hits in and they
2:04:26definitely act a certain way and that's
2:04:29not
2:04:30you you act just like everybody else who
2:04:34I accuse of doing a crime who did
2:04:38it and there's no other way to tell you
2:04:41is it because I'm not
2:04:42crying
2:04:45no it's not because of that what is it I
2:04:48mean I'm not going to change how I act
2:04:50obviously you can't way you're you're
2:04:52acting I mean I am who I am okay you're
2:04:54you're sincere in the way you're
2:04:56acting but uh well how is you're just
2:04:59you're just not telling the truth how is
2:05:02it different well it's not really
2:05:05something you need to focus on anymore I
2:05:07think you need to focus on the truth but
2:05:09it's something that you
2:05:11refuse so if you don't if you don't want
2:05:13to continue then then we'll just move on
2:05:16to the next

2:05:22it's not that I didn't love Travis and
2:05:25it's not that I don't still love
2:05:27him
2:05:28but I really needed to move on MH
2:05:34and the last what prevented you from
2:05:37moving
2:05:38on nobody was preventing you from moving
2:05:41on
2:05:43well the only person preventing me
2:05:45really for moving on was myself and
2:05:47until I made that step and I moved back
2:05:50moved away and we communicated gradually
2:05:53less and less and less and I was fine
2:05:56with that um I haven't found the guy the
2:06:00man that I want to marry the person I
2:06:01want to spend my life with um but in my
2:06:04mind Travis did and I was happy from and
2:06:07I thought there was also a part of me
2:06:09that felt if I stay I'm going to
2:06:11jeopardize that for him as well we both
2:06:14deserve to be happy we both deserve to
2:06:17have you know be married in the temple
2:06:21um and that's where he wanted to
2:06:23go
2:06:26um so I mean I didn't know that maybe
2:06:29didn't feel that way I had never spoken
2:06:31to her except at church when I came down
2:06:33to Arizona it was really
2:06:35brief um and it was the bishop who told
2:06:38me that you know she had essentially
2:06:40turned him down and the last few um I
2:06:44mean now that I think about it he was
2:06:47really just the you know in his in his
2:06:50attitude stuff and I just thought maybe
2:06:52that's just because we're just beginning
2:06:53to more distance
2:06:55ourselves
2:06:57um and you know he still had his trip
2:06:59plan to come up
2:07:04here I just the the reason I I don't
2:07:08know it's not that I'm not remorseful
2:07:10that he
2:07:14died I didn't kill
2:07:16him I didn't take his life did you have
2:07:20anything to do with I had nothing to do
2:07:23with his death at all at all the reason
2:07:26I hesitate is
2:07:28because maybe this is something that's
2:07:30wrong with me psychologically is I think
2:07:31of the butterfly effect and it's like
2:07:34you could say that the guy pumping gas
2:07:36station pumping gas down at the gas
2:07:38station could have potentially because
2:07:39you see all these movies these funky
2:07:41movies where it's like this affected
2:07:42this which affected this which affected
2:07:43this if he had never done this I know if
2:07:45you had never met him he'd probably
2:07:46still be alive that's true yeah but
2:07:49that's because you killed him no you did
2:07:52I did not
2:07:54Jody you can't convince me otherwise
2:07:57unless you come up with more proof that
2:08:00you didn't but I can't prove that
2:08:02anybody else no I couldn't have what
2:08:05about if the car comes back that it was
2:08:07never even in that area it still doesn't
2:08:11negate the fact that we have this other
2:08:16evidence
2:08:18Ian this is absolutely of evidence I've
2:08:22ever had in a
2:08:23case and I've
2:08:26convicted a few people on less than this
2:08:29well so I'm as good as done right with
2:08:31that
2:08:33evidence yeah I just can't admit to
2:08:38something that I didn't do if it would
2:08:41help if it would help my case and give
2:08:43me an easier sentence I know people
2:08:45plead guilty for those things no and I
2:08:47don't want you to do that
2:08:52that is the absolute last thing I
2:08:54want well I know what I want to do is I
2:08:57want to sit here with
2:08:59you and I want to go over why you
2:09:02visited him that day what you guys
2:09:05talked
2:09:06about what caused you to get so
2:09:09angry and the details on how it happened
2:09:14and it's something that you probably
2:09:15don't want to remember but it's
2:09:18something that I need because for me to
2:09:22finish a case completely I need to know
2:09:26not just the details but what was going
2:09:28through your
2:09:30mind because I need to present that as a
2:09:33full
2:09:34picture because if I don't I don't feel
2:09:37that I've completed my job and my job is
2:09:40to speak for
2:09:42him not anybody else my job isn't to
2:09:45speak for you the job isn't to speak for
2:09:48his family it's to speak for Travis
2:09:53and I know something horrible happened
2:09:54that day absolutely
2:09:57horrible something that could have been
2:10:02avoided whether something was planned I
2:10:05don't
2:10:07know whether you planned it or whether
2:10:09it accidentally happened or something
2:10:12got out of hand I I don't know all I
2:10:16could do is
2:10:17speculate and I want to believe that
2:10:21that you're not this coldhearted person
2:10:24that could just go out and do something
2:10:26like this to somebody I want to believe
2:10:30that like a lot of
2:10:33people things got out of
2:10:36control and before you knew it it was
2:10:38too
2:10:40late that's what I want to
2:10:42believe and that's truly from my
2:10:45heart because I sit here and I've talked
2:10:47to you and and I'm talking to you now
2:10:50and all those conversations we had on
2:10:51the phone and I don't see a
2:10:53coldhearted murderer like you would see
2:10:55on TV or that I've seen before sit
2:10:58across from me that's not what I see in
2:11:01you

2:17:58Bond then the judge will decide whether
2:18:00to you know accept that 2 million or
2:18:03not at that point we're going to file
2:18:07extradition papers basically our courts
2:18:10are saying that hey you have someone in
2:18:12custody on one of our charges we want
2:18:15them brought back to
2:18:17Arizona or at least allow us to come
2:18:19pick them up and that's called an
2:18:21extradition hearing you will be given
2:18:24the opportunity to either wave it and
2:18:27say that's fine I'll just go on my own
2:18:30free
2:18:31will or you can fight it and say no I
2:18:35don't want to go back to to Arizon what
2:18:37if I say I go on my own free will of
2:18:39course I would go yeah at that point the
2:18:41judge would say okay she's not fighting
2:18:43this so come get her and then we would
2:18:47go what if I did fight then what happen
2:18:49then you would have a hearing
2:18:51like a little
2:18:52trial basic it delays it and cost
2:18:56money and then you'll be trans uh
2:18:59transferred transferred over to the mar
2:19:03County Jail in
2:19:05Phoenix and you will start your court
2:19:07proceedings
2:19:09there and
2:19:11um I've already filed these
2:19:14charges it went to a grand jury and a
2:19:16grand jury indicted
2:19:18you so it's all public yeah it's public
2:19:22record so does everyone know if somebody
2:19:24goes on checks public record they can
2:19:26check it and they would come out with an
2:19:29indictment against you for work but it's
2:19:30going to be on the news tonight we don't
2:19:32report anything to the
2:19:34news has his family called today no they
2:19:39don't even know that I'm talking to you
2:19:41but they've been calling every day every
2:19:43day are you going to talk talk to them
2:19:45every
2:19:46day how would you feel if your little
2:19:48brother or little sister was killed I've
2:19:51been wanting to call every day too but I
2:19:53didn't want to look obsessive so I just
2:19:55tried to limit it to once a
2:20:03week will I be able to see my family in
2:20:05for I don't know I don't know I don't
2:20:08know what their procedures are here at
2:20:10this Chanel in this County um can I talk
2:20:12to somebody about my Affairs that need
