5:54you know I've been working on Travis's
5:55case ever since it happened okay okay
5:57and I know exactly
5:59when it happened when he was killed I
6:03know a lot of details and just recently
6:06we
6:07found quite a bit of evidence
6:10and I'll discuss that with you
6:12the main thing that I'm looking for
6:14though is answers on why certain things
6:18happened why they went so far and also
6:23get your statements okay
6:29a lot of details on this case that
6:31haven't been released to to the public
6:34and not even the Travis's family
6:36in those details
6:39are known only by us and the person who
6:42did it okay and that's one of the
6:45reasons I'm here is because I believe
6:47that you know some of these details
6:49can I think you can help us I would love
6:51to help you in any way that I can okay

6:56because we're here at the police

6:59the sheriff's department here in uh was
7:01it Siskiyou County that's what it's
7:02called okay
7:04um and you're considered under arrest or
7:08detained you're not free to go and I'm a
7:11police officer I have to read you your
7:13rights okay I'm sure you've heard them
7:15on TV you've
7:17yeah
7:19I have to read them off this little card
7:20here but they're pretty much the same
7:22and I'll explain them to you as we go

8:21um you mentioned you were traveling on
8:23some of these dates I want to kind of
8:26clarify some of these things and you
8:29know if there's a question that you
8:31don't want to answer you'll feel
8:32comfortable you can say no you know and
8:34or you know you can elaborate as much as
8:36you want it's completely up to you it's
8:38at your speed I don't want to pressure
8:40you record it all or should we no I
8:43don't I don't know if there's a
8:45recording or something I don't know
8:46these are voice recorders I noticed them
8:48they have videos
8:51batteries I don't think they're on
8:54um
8:56yeah I haven't touched those or anything
8:58but uh okay

9:08just get to the bottom of it everybody

9:16you know so I'm going to ask you some
9:17questions even voluntarily answer them

9:27there was some question about you being
9:32well let's start with this
9:34what have you been up to since um
9:37since Travis is death what have you been
9:41doing
9:43um
9:44well I've been working
9:46I've been really working in prepaid
9:47legal there's not a whole lot here in
9:50this Marketplace which is it's kind of
9:53small here it's small here and really
9:54that could be seen as an opportunity
9:57rather than a hint
9:59because that just means the market is
10:01untapped in a large way so I could have
10:04if I wanted to but
10:06I have I'm kind of like a deer in the
10:07headlights when it comes to previous
10:09ly I kind of just have a fear of just
10:11approaching people
10:13um
10:14so I've been working at a Mexican
10:15restaurant in the north end of town
10:18um
10:20I've been
10:24I've been kind of in a daze at least for
10:26the first few weeks
10:29um
10:31like everybody you know yeah
10:34um I know that a lot of people have been
10:36posting on Facebook really nice things
10:39you know and memories and at one point I
10:41was like well maybe I should do that so
10:43I posted this thing and
10:44I said all my memories and
10:47I realized looking back on it that it
10:49was kind of It kind of sounded immature
10:50it's more like my dear Travis kind of
10:52letter
10:53and so I took it down because it's
10:55personal yeah some of it was detailed a
10:58little bit more personal not too
10:59personal nothing inappropriate just um
11:03I just
11:04felt funny I think because I'm a
11:06photographer I tend to communicate more
11:08into pictures so I posted a ton of
11:10pictures that I have of him and I have a
11:13ton more that I just can't access right
11:15now
11:16and videos and things that I know as
11:18family would want but
11:20um
11:22so I posted pictures and I took that
11:24down and I posted something last week
11:26but other than that I've been on
11:28Facebook in Myspace a lot looking at his
11:30profile looking at his pictures reading
11:33things about his obituaries and
11:38any news updates and you know there's
11:40legacy.com where you can write something
11:43about it yeah
11:45yeah
11:45um I've seen a lot of those postings
11:49um
11:50I didn't realize until I actually spoke
11:53with Ryan Burns
11:55he he told the guy that's in Utah and
11:58we've been talking a lot we try not to
11:59talk about that because it's kind of
12:00like and plus Travis is my ex-boyfriend
12:02but at the same time he's my friend so
12:04while I'm warning my friend how do you
12:06talk to your new potential possible
12:08Maybe person that you might start dating
12:10about your friend even though he was
12:12your ex-boyfriend so it's kind of a gray
12:13area I try not to talk about him too
12:15much but he comes up a lot
12:18um
12:20and it was through him that I learned
12:22that he said you know if you come out to
12:23Utah things are really weird because
12:24everyone is everyone thinks that you
12:26could have had
12:27um and I'm talking to a lot of people
12:29and
12:31everybody's pointing at a finger at you
12:33I know you know everybody is saying I
12:37don't understand what happened to Travis
12:39I don't know who killed him
12:42but you need to look at Jody
12:45and sometimes the simplest
12:48answers
12:49are the correct ones
12:51and that's one of the reasons I started
12:53looking at you a little bit closer
12:56and over the last month or so I
13:01I've gotten into Travis's lives
13:03talk to all his friends his family
13:06I got a really good understanding of who
13:08he is now
13:10and
13:12I got a very good understanding of your
13:14relationship with him
13:16and
13:18kind of just putting two and two
13:19together
13:21well and in it and it kind of matches
13:24so one of the reasons I'm here is to
13:26talk to you and figure out what was
13:29going on between you two what I know the
13:31relationship that you guys had was of
13:33convenience sometimes
13:36obviously you weren't boyfriend
13:37girlfriend anymore
13:39but you were still
13:40having a sexual relationship
13:43which
13:44doesn't really know about that
13:47curious no this family doesn't know
13:49anything
13:58he was
14:00um well I'm sure if Travis could speak
14:02right now he wouldn't care what people
14:03thought about him
14:05because they knew who he was okay a
14:08sexual relationship here or there
14:10because the fact he was a member of the
14:12church it really doesn't matter
14:14whole range of things
14:25we prayed about it didn't work or we
14:28didn't stick to our you know our guns on
14:30it and once I'm A girlfriend of mine
14:33just said why don't you just go to your
14:34bishop and talk and ask Travis the same
14:36and I talked to him about it he got
14:37really angry he said I've already had
14:39problems with this in the past I'm
14:41embarrassed by it I don't want to go to
14:42my Bishop
14:43and so we just kind of stopped for like
14:46a few weeks and then that must have been
14:48I think it was August and then it just
14:50resumed
14:52well the way Travis thought by you know
14:54getting into his head and everything
14:56that he's written his journals and
14:59um everything I found out about him
15:01he he truly had feelings for you
15:05and for some reason
15:08he felt that the relationship between
15:09you and him was somewhat unhealthy but
15:13he couldn't stop it
15:15and I assume that's probably maybe the
15:19same way you felt about him or it's
15:21maybe you didn't understand why he
15:23didn't believe it was healthy no I I
15:26didn't think it was healthy
15:27healthy actually at least and probably
15:28emotionally
15:30mostly spiritually and I think that kind
15:32of wants you to have something that's
15:33not healthy spiritually it filters
15:35through all aspects of your life
15:37um it's
15:38it's one of the main it's one like there
15:40were three main reasons I moved back to
15:42yurica and one was I was in financial
15:43dires trades
15:45um I was not getting ahead it was not
15:48I just things were not working
15:49everything in Arizona was like except
15:52for the wonderful friends that I made in
15:53my ward
15:54um and the opportunity it's like the
15:56Mormon land of opportunity there which
15:58is awesome but except for all that like
16:00every sign was pointing just just go you
16:03know you know I wasn't able to hold a
16:05job and that had never happened before
16:08um
16:09it you know too much of my
16:12my nightlife can was was about him you
16:15know he would text me and hey I'm
16:17getting sleepy dot dot dot is a bunch of
16:19Z's and that was his code to like come
16:23on over kind of thing
16:24your coast is clear you know
16:27so um you know and that was just I lived
16:30five minutes away 10 maybe 10 depending
16:33and it was just too convenient and too
16:34easy and it was fun and we had fun when
16:36we were together and so it wasn't
16:38healthy and I totally agree with that
16:40um so that was one of the re well
16:42financially I wasn't doing well I missed
16:44my family I moved away
16:46um shortly after high school and I come
16:48back to visit but I realized over the
16:49years I've missed out on a lot of things
16:51record sister
16:53missed out on just uh
16:56their karate or their baseball or
16:59cheerleading or
17:02whatever and um and my dad is not doing
17:05well
17:06he doesn't think he has very long to
17:08live but he always says that
17:10for like a decade he's still here thank
17:12goodness
17:14um my grandparents aren't getting any
17:15younger and I just have an awesome
17:17family
17:19and I wanted to be able to just
17:21be here for a little bit and regroup
17:23financially
17:25I owe my parents a lot of money and I
17:27have my grandparents a lot of money and
17:29I owe friends money I owe
17:32I know my um
17:34the guy that I bought a house with I owe
17:36him a lot of money he doesn't ask me for
17:38it but I intend to pay him back because
17:40he really footed the bill in the
17:42mortgage for a few months
17:45um
17:46and the third reason and I like to put
17:48this third because I like to think that
17:50second of those reasons I would have
17:52been strong enough somehow but the third
17:53reason was to put a distance a physical
17:56distance between Travis and I because
17:58I know that he really liked Mimi and he
18:00said he did
18:02um
18:04he just
18:05I kind of felt guilty I mean I know they
18:08weren't dating but I just felt guilty
18:09somehow and I didn't know Ryan at the
18:12time
18:13I met him in March at in Oklahoma City
18:16and it was just brief and I remember
18:17seeing him and saying oh I really want
18:19to go say hi to him but he was
18:21surrounded by people and it was he was
18:23kind of unapproachable
18:24and he says he remembers meeting me too
18:26and it wasn't until Zion my friend
18:31texted me and you know I think I told
18:33you that and this is all after business
18:37everything was all over sorry the
18:40timeline we broke I well it was kind of
18:43a mutual thing but I I sort of more
18:45broke up with him
18:47um and I it was hard to do because I
18:49really loved him but I just realized
18:51that without trust you can't have
18:53anything and I had violated him is that
18:55the main reason you guys broke up is to
18:57trust the trust I think that there's not
19:00not that the relationship was unhealthy
19:02because of the sexual activity
19:04possibility but just that you guys
19:06couldn't trust each other I think that
19:08and this doesn't make it right I think
19:10that you know being a convert you know I
19:13I've I've been I've had a couple of
19:16serious relationships before where I was
19:17where I was intimate with a few people
19:19and
19:22it's kind of silly but I used to always
19:24joke that um regardless of what the
19:28Bible says and yes I'm Christian I just
19:29live my life by the Ten Commandments and
19:31that's my those are my rules
19:33you know Thou shalt not this or that but
19:36it doesn't say thou shalt in the morning
19:37so I just used to joke about that
19:40it's a bad philosophy
19:42um I think that with Travis
19:45um there was part there was a part of me
19:47that felt really guilty because there
19:48was something inside that thought you're
19:50you know this is nice for instant
19:52gratification but you're destroying what
19:54you could have
19:55with Travis and that's why we we did
19:58pray about it I remember we knelt by his
19:59bed once and um
20:02and
20:04surprisingly he suggested it normally
20:07you know we would I would suggest that
20:09we pray before we go on a trip or before
20:10we eat if we're alone it was kind of
20:12unusual for him huh
20:14yeah because he was very resistant to
20:16prayer with me I mean I think in church
20:19it would find and I feel it maybe
20:20because
20:22we were driving away this Ferry
20:24constantly
20:26um
20:27or maybe he felt that by inviting the
20:29spirit he would feel guilty about later
20:31on in the evening or I don't know what
20:33the deal was or the excuse he used was
20:35because I'm a convert I need more
20:37practice saying prayers he's like so I'd
20:39say will you State Fair he's like why
20:41don't you say a prayer
20:42um why don't you say a prayer why don't
20:43you say a prayer so we go back and forth
20:45and
20:46I don't know until I don't know it's
20:48just
20:49one time when I was on a trip at
20:51Havasupai we were all getting on the
20:53road and
20:54I think Dan it was with Dan Freeman and
20:56his sister Desiree and they were all
20:58like um Jody will you say a prayer and I
21:00said sure and Travis was like
21:04anyway I didn't want to argue with them
21:06so
21:08um anyway what was I saying well he's um
21:13you know the whole trust issue keeps
21:15coming back into my mind yeah he was he
21:20was a big time flirt and that's the one
21:22thing everybody says about him he flirts
21:24a lot
21:25um does it mean anything by it no not
21:28really that's just who he is
21:31um he did have you know girlfriends here
21:33there and he was at a point in his life
21:35where he wanted to really start settling
21:38down
21:39it felt like
21:41he needed to kind of grow up
21:44I'll become a husband become a father
21:46you know those at that time had come and
21:48he felt that that time had come and gone
21:52and he was falling behind he told me
21:54that too he said he felt um I think his
21:57time was running out and I
21:58told him
22:00that you know despite the fact that he's
22:02not going to be in a singles War very
22:03much longer he still has a lot of
22:05options he's still a very eligible
22:07bachelor
22:08and he he just didn't see it that way
22:10he's like you don't understand he's like
22:11that might be true but my chances are
22:13severely reduced once I turn 31 . it was
22:16like this particular time finding a good
22:19Mormon girl you know was
22:22difficult because in that church you
22:25know that
22:27lots of girls to get married early 20s
22:29yeah you know he said he didn't want to
22:32marry a girl and early 20s because
22:34he said that he noticed a lot of pattern
22:36in the church with girls that married
22:37between 19 and 24 so speak would
22:41would you know they'd start having
22:43babies and growing their family and
22:46then they would look at their single
22:47girlfriends who are still having fun
22:49with no responsibilities and they would
22:50regret getting married and I think if
22:52you're strong in a church that's not so
22:53much a problem but
22:55it depends on who you surround yourself
22:57with too you surround yourself with the
22:59right people you know
23:01the story but you know that's where he
23:04was and did you guys ever discuss
23:07possibly getting married or anything
23:09when we were dating we did okay once we
23:12broke up
23:13he brought it up if he actually proposed
23:16to me
23:17a lot of times but he wasn't serious
23:20um I think he was he was serious once
23:23and it was when we broke up
23:25and that was really hard because we were
23:27on the phone and it was just like none
23:29of that stuff should be done on the
23:31phone anyway but I was hundreds of miles
23:33away
23:34and um I told him that I loved him we
23:36didn't say I love you during our
23:37relationship but we said it afterwards
23:39it was weird
23:41um I said you know
23:43this isn't breaking up with him on the
23:46phone wasn't really the way I wanted to
23:48do it but it was kind of a situation
23:50that had just come to a
23:54this couldn't be more
23:56let's move to after the breakup
23:59okay
24:00what uh
24:03what kept you and Mesa at that point
24:08I actually moved to Mesa a few weeks
24:10after we broke up really I mean as far
24:13as the timeline goes but I mean if you
24:16want to call it our official breakup
24:18shortly thereafter it's like we were
24:20still singing so you guys were seeing
24:22each other but
24:23was a long distance type relationship it
24:25was always long distance when we were
24:27officially dating we didn't we dated we
24:29dated from about the beginning of
24:30February to about the end of June
24:33February
24:34marching about five months to
24:37television 2007 you guys broke up and
24:40and they came up to Mesa
24:43um
24:43yeah
24:44the sort of most people when they break
24:47up they probably go I know and it was
24:50and we plans were already in order for
24:52me to move there
24:54um I was already speaking with a friend
24:55who was you know
24:58it was going to be her roommate and I
25:00was her roommate for a short time
25:05flighty
25:06it's a great girl though
25:08um
25:10I talked to Travis about maybe going to
25:12Southern California instead
25:14and he's really
25:17he's he's really
25:21persuasive and persuade you to stay
25:23there Mesa he's he kind of was playing
25:26up all the advantages if I did come to
25:28Mesa and if I did you know um
25:32he said you know it's it's a great place
25:34we could still see each other and hang
25:36out on occasion
25:38this church is very strong you know
25:41you'll make a lot of friends and I
25:43already knew all this stuff prior
25:44because I we talked about that
25:48um
25:49you know and so I went ahead and just
25:51made the move it sounded at the time
25:53like a good idea
25:55can you guys continue to kind of see
25:57each other at that time yeah at the time
25:59I would sort of living more across town
26:00over by greenfield do you know where
26:02that is it was a Greenfield near
26:04Broadway Greenfield Broadway were the
26:06nearest cross streets and that's where
26:07the girl that I was originally talking
26:09with I moved in with her that's kind of
26:12far from yeah yeah
26:15um the thing about her and and just to
26:17give you a background of why I moved
26:19suddenly
26:20um she
26:22approached me the weekend after I got
26:24there and said hey she knocked on my
26:25door can I talk to you for a second I
26:26said sure and she moved in with her
26:28boyfriend
26:29um and they were engaged
26:32you said hey I just wanted to let you
26:33know that Scott and I went to Vegas last
26:34weekend to tie the knot and I was like
26:36really she's like yeah we've told anyone
26:38but we didn't want to live in sin so and
26:40she had already been sealed in the
26:42temple once and was waiting for her
26:43cancel for her too
26:45yeah to be careful so they were going to
26:48have a civil wedding um
26:50and they did that the following the
26:52following weekend she told me that on a
26:56Monday or Tuesday it was the beginning
26:57of the week and she said the reason I'm
26:59telling you that is because I'm getting
27:01married this weekend and I have to go
27:03out of town a few days ahead of Scott
27:04you know make arrangements and now that
27:07he's a married man we don't feel it's
27:08right that you'll be here in the house
27:10she's like I don't want to inconvenience
27:11you but is there any way you could stay
27:13with somebody else or just find another
27:14place the time I was waiting on a house
27:17in Gilbert because I already knew they
27:19were getting married so it's kind of
27:20looking anyway and there was a great
27:21girl named Brenda and she was waiting on
27:24her keys for the mortgage to go through
27:25and it was a great Ward it was a great
27:26house it was brand new
27:29um construction and all that was really
27:30nice but she didn't get her keys for
27:32months and months I think she's in the
27:34house now but I don't know I haven't
27:35talked to her
27:36um so I scrambled I went to The
27:39Institute I wrote down a bunch of phone
27:41numbers I called them all a lot of them
27:42I got voicemails
27:44um one girl that answered her name was
27:46Tiffany and she knew Travis and she was
27:48at his services in Arizona and
27:52we've just remained friends sort of like
27:54on MySpace and Facebook and that kind of
27:56thing but she said hey sorry that's not
27:58dated posting I forgot to take it down
27:59but go to this website so ldshousing.net
28:01I went there I made three phone calls
28:04for the places that were within my price
28:06range I didn't think to look where they
28:08were the one girl that called me back
28:10her name is Shannon derricott she said
28:11here's my place here's the directions go
28:13ahead and go out and come see the house
28:15it was available so we did
28:18go ahead you have to get that no okay
28:22um so I moved out there and when Travis
28:24found out it was so close to him he
28:25freaked out about it
28:27and I made sure to check that it wasn't
28:29that that we wouldn't be in the same
28:32ward and it was within his word
28:33boundaries but it was also within
28:34another single sword boundary so of
28:36course I'm gonna go the other one
28:37because it would just be kind of weird I
28:39mean I didn't know about him and Lisa at
28:43first so I I don't know if they were
28:46even dating at that time I don't know
28:47what their whole timeline was
28:50um but it still would have been weird
28:51and it wouldn't have made traffic during
28:53that time that he was seeing Lisa did
28:56you continue to see him as well yeah and
28:58I didn't know that he was seeing her
29:00but he would call you and have you come
29:02home yeah I know there was a time when
29:04you I guess were cleaning his house too
29:06for for extra money or something yeah I
29:08hired you yeah I did that no because he
29:11knew that I was struggling and he
29:13he's like I've been doing the math and
29:14that happened pretty much right on I
29:16knew that started that started in August
29:18he's like I've done the math and I feel
29:20that I can be more protective
29:22my time is more valuable than x amount
29:24of dollars per hour so why don't I pay
29:26you this per hour and I'll work and you
29:28can make a little bit of money
29:30so that kind of makes sense so that was
29:32around the same time time frame was uh
29:34the move it was like a few weeks after
29:36the move I was still living in
29:39with Rachel over on Greenfield
29:42before when that started and he sent me
29:45this picture and he's like this is your
29:47uniform habit by Friday or Thursday or
29:49whatever and it was this French faint
29:51thing I was like no yeah let's have
29:53typical yeah like I said he's a very
29:56flirty guy and he is
29:59now obviously the racial release or um
30:03at least the relationship didn't work
30:06out and
30:07um
30:08and then it was a time period he really
30:10wasn't seeing anybody and then Mimi came
30:12into the picture
30:14um what did you think about her I didn't
30:16know a lot about her she seems like a
30:18really nice girl he showed me her
30:19picture on Facebook you know I don't
30:21think she had a lot of pictures on there
30:24um
30:24he said that he's not sure why but he's
30:29pretty sure that she could be it
30:33um I didn't find out about this
30:35conversation you had face to face with
30:36him yeah yeah it was in his room
30:39um
30:39and he had his laptop
30:43I didn't find out about Lisa until after
30:45we broke we had this conversation where
30:47we decided oh just come clean
30:50um and that was quite a conversation
30:53um because I was never Unfaithful but
30:56there you know when we started dating
30:58that timeline around February
31:00the reason I remember February is
31:02because he had told me in December you
31:04know go date other people kind of
31:07and so I did
31:09um it was January 10th that I went on a
31:11date with um my friend John for lunch we
31:15just went out and have sushi nothing
31:16romantic happened we didn't hold hands
31:18we didn't kiss we think we had it
31:20and I guess it was considered a day
31:21because he asked me and I accepted any
31:23paid for it
31:25um and that was in Pasadena yeah if you
31:27pay for it today yeah that was in
31:29Pasadena and the following evening I
31:31went out with my friend Abe and we he
31:34drinks and he just got like
31:37Maker's Mark I think as far as this
31:39drink and I got cranberry juice and we
31:41just talked forever about it he talked
31:43about politics which is all these guys
31:44in the Marine Corps or something they
31:45were both in prepaid legal
31:47um John Dixon is not in group illegal
31:49anymore he's moved on to other Ventures
31:50no but the uh the Marine Corps are they
31:52in the service at all okay Abe is kind
31:55of he's a little bit older he's just
31:57sort of businessman okay has a
31:59background in
32:00whatever production and this is during
32:02the time that you guys were broken up or
32:04visual kind of going I'm sorry this is
32:06before we started dating okay the reason
32:08I say this is because he told me a few
32:10times he told me during that
32:11conversation too that he's like you seem
32:13to have a very convenient timeline for
32:14when we started dating so I used to ask
32:16him like when did we actually start
32:17dating because I figured if we ever made
32:19it to a year we might as well
32:22um and he's like I'm not really sure and
32:24the reason I think it was February 2nd
32:27is because we
32:29do you know of Chris and Scott Hughes
32:31okay
32:33um I used to spend a lot of time at

32:37they're a wonderful family and uh
32:40sky was she she's somebody that I really
32:44opened up to
32:45and you know
32:47um I told her a little bit how I just
32:49wasn't sure about Travis at the time and
32:51and I wasn't sure what was going on
32:53there and she wrote in this long letter
32:55or she didn't write a letter Travis
32:57wrote the letter but she um kind of got
32:59on his case
33:01and and I was and they told me all kinds
33:03of things about Travis that I wasn't
33:06aware of what kind of stuff are you
33:08talking about
33:09um
33:12they said if I don't get away from
33:14Travis I'm gonna become just like Deanna
33:16which is his other ex-girlfriend yeah
33:19um
33:21you know do you want to waste six years
33:23of your life waiting for him
33:25um because he can't come in he's still
33:28tells Deanna I love you and I was like
33:29what you know yeah and I truly believe
33:32he he does love herself
33:37he's what you call a player
33:39you know what that means
33:42he he kind of he doesn't fools girls
33:45yeah
33:47but he can't make a commitment
33:49portrays himself to be a certain way
33:53but he's really not
33:56he portrays himself to have a lot of
34:00money he's got a lot of things he told
34:02me the first night that I
34:04said the first night that I met him
34:06it was the second I was at the MGM Grand
34:08invited me to this executive director
34:10banquet
34:11and you know he was kind of talking
34:13about what his earnings were the last
34:15year and how he almost made his six
34:17figures and that kind of thing and then
34:19he leans in and he goes in this business
34:20you have to show off your money a little
34:22bit and then prepaid legal it is people
34:24want to see that you're actually being
34:25successful so
34:26you know he's done a good job it's about
34:28making money yeah
34:31um anyway what was I saying
34:33it says Kristen sky or just by the end
34:36of the conversation they started calling
34:37me Deanna
34:38and I was just like shocked I didn't
34:40want to I certainly the last thing I
34:42wanted how did you feel about that
34:44um my biggest concern was losing respect
34:47in their eyes because I really really
34:49looked up to them
34:51and I thought I would have laughed it
34:53off and I thought it was kind of funny
34:54but my big but I feared inside that I
34:56was losing that respect
34:59um so when I talked to him next I was
35:02like uh you know what do I do what do I
35:04say and he ended up riding this
35:06letter just died saying I just got off
35:09the phone with a very reluctant to talk
35:10to me Jody you know
35:12and she wrote back
35:15saying something to the effect like you
35:17know I wouldn't want my sister to date
35:18you
35:20um
35:21why do you kiss Jody in the dark and
35:22then act like you guys aren't even
35:23together in the daytime things like that
35:26that's a good statement
35:28because
35:29that kind of sums up the relationship
35:31that you have with him
35:33it seems like especially she liked you
35:35he loved you
35:37he wanted to be with you but he was
35:41he was reluctant to make a
35:43commitment first off
35:45and truly he didn't think that you were
35:47marriage material
35:49and I don't know why not I mean I see
35:52you you're you're you're you're a
35:53wonderful girl you're
35:55you know you're struggling you're trying
35:57to to make your way through life and I
36:00don't see why you guys couldn't have
36:01made it I think we're just we have we
36:04have very many different philosophies in
36:06a lot of ways
36:08um we would argue about the dumbest
36:10things and like he would just want me to
36:12admit that he was right and I would
36:14happily do that it's a man thing that's
36:16and I would if I should have just known
36:19better and admitted that I eventually
36:20learned how to argue with Travis she's
36:22like okay
36:24fine yeah eventually that's what it what
36:26I began to do with him it's like the
36:27more I just agree with him the sooner
36:29the argument gets over the sooner we can
36:30make up and the makeup was always great
36:33um but um there are so many times I just
36:36couldn't wrap my mind around what he
36:38would I could but but I would try to get
36:40him to do the same for me like there was
36:41a time when I broke down on the way to
36:43La once when I was going to watch Chris
36:44Hughes do a train
36:46um and this was January
36:48mid-January maybe of 2007 and my my car
36:52got a flat tire so I had at the time
36:54roadside assistance because my car was
36:55still under warranty and they pulled
36:57they went to take the car in to change
36:59the tire and realized that when they
37:00sold me the car they didn't give me the
37:01wheel lock key so you know for
37:04anti-theft there was Wheelock so I had
37:05to get a hotel room I had to get my car
37:07towed it was a big nightmare
37:09um and I was kind of hungry it was
37:10dinner time it was 7 38 and it was dark
37:13because it was January
37:15um the tow truck guy said you know
37:17there's a Denny's two blocks down here
37:19and there's a Jack In The Box there and
37:20he was driving me to the motel I said is
37:21there an IHOP around because I really
37:23like IHOP he's like yeah but it's kind
37:24of like five miles back in the other
37:26direction I was like okay he's like I
37:28can drive you there if you want
37:30and I was like
37:31he's like this short Mexican guy and he
37:35seemed really harmless and I was like
37:36okay and he you know and I asked him
37:39about his life and he had a wife and
37:41kids and so he wasn't flirting I already
37:43had a girlfriend or something I don't
37:44know I'm just trying to be nice to you
37:45just being nice and so I ended up
37:47telling her and he didn't
37:48ever come on me or ever say anything
37:50inappropriate and then he drove me back
37:52and dropped me off and that was that
37:53and um
37:55and I got to eat and so I told that to
37:58Travis and he didn't say anything at
37:59first but it got back to Skye and sky
38:01was like why didn't you call me and then
38:02I think eventually that was used against
38:04me to establish a pattern that I do
38:06weird things like that so um that's
38:09something we had arguments about a lot
38:10was um he's like I just think that so he
38:13was truly upset with you about that he
38:15felt a little jealous but it I I
38:19he told me one said he's a little bit he
38:21was a little bit jealous when he found
38:22out that he went on those dates he's
38:23like but I know we're not dating and
38:25he's like yes I guess I am a little bit
38:27jealous but with these other incidences
38:29he said it just concerns him
38:31because he thinks that he thought that I
38:33would get myself into a situation where
38:34I'd get hurt because I have that sort of
38:36attitude and I was really since I joined
38:39prepaid I've been really trying to break
38:41out of my bubble and do things that are
38:42a little uncomfortable
38:43as far as um
38:46um talking to people and you know I made
38:48a resolution this year to overcome a few
38:50fears that I have
38:52really scared of so I think that by
38:54getting into that a little then I can
38:57you know overcome some of that
39:00um but his he did act jealous but he
39:03wouldn't say he was jealous but you
39:05would tell other people about it
39:09I may have told Skye about that
39:12but they probably had a conversation
39:14with them and he probably voices
39:17um I know that him and Skye had a lot
39:19had a lot of fights and arguments and it
39:20was and I was the root of that a lot of
39:23time
39:23but I think you know all in all they
39:26especially more recently they got along
39:29a lot better
39:31I think she gave him a really hard time
39:33about our relationship one of the
39:35reasons he really wanted to keep it
39:36under wrapped
39:40so
39:41you know moving over to
39:44his trip to Cancun that he was going to
39:48um when did you first find out about
39:50that that he was going with Mimi oh I
39:53didn't find I found out about that at
39:54his memorial services
39:56on Monday
39:58was the Monday night memorial service he
40:01didn't know that he was going to Cancun
40:02I knew he was going yeah I know he was
40:05taking maybe I didn't know that I think
40:07that's awesome actually yeah well
40:09unfortunately Mimi had called him a week
40:12or two before and
40:15look if you want to take somebody else
40:17it's fine but I have something to tell
40:19you
40:20I don't look at you that way I don't
40:22look at you as a boyfriend
40:25if you want to be friends we can be
40:27friends
40:28and that really broke his heart I know
40:30um
40:31I mean he didn't tell me that but I
40:33found out from Miss Bishop afterward
40:34when I talked to this bishop
40:37his Bishop did say that Travis really
40:38took that one
40:40they took it to heart and he said he
40:42realizes that it's probably speaking
40:45from a Bishop's perspective he said it's
40:46because you know Mimi is of a certain
40:49caliber when it comes to her
40:50spirituality and Travis was just another
40:52place and that's something he struggled
40:54with for a long time well I feel I feel
40:58responsible for that partly why do you
41:00feel responsible because I wasn't I mean
41:02I moved away but I had participated with
41:05him in so many things that kept us both
41:07down spiritually for a long time I mean
41:08if I had just cut ties completely I
41:11could probably be married right now
41:13probably be working on my own family
41:16um
41:18what can you do what what kept you to
41:20him
41:22I don't understand well moving is
41:25expensive for one so once I was there it
41:28was kind of stuck there
41:29um why do you continue to go back to him
41:31you know what he wants you know that
41:34it's not healthy
41:35but yet you continue to go back
41:38and it brings us to this point where we
41:40are now
41:42okay I mean
41:46I guess I
41:49I physically I keep saying it you knew
41:52that it wasn't healthy and and you knew
41:54it was contributing with something that
41:56wasn't good I think everybody had you
41:58guys continue to do it yeah and part of
42:01that part of my um perspective now has
42:04to do with the fact that I'm going
42:05through a repentance process that I
42:07worked out with you know with my bishop
42:10and he's given me you know certain
42:12scriptures to read and Ponder and pray
42:14about and it just it brings me back to
42:17where I was prior to all that
42:20um
42:21I don't know how much I ever really was
42:23there as much as I am now because even
42:24before I was baptized even the two days
42:27before I was baptized
42:30it was on Wednesday and I was baptized
42:32on Sunday
42:33um before Thanksgiving and it was just
42:35like like Travis and I were making out
42:37and you know that was Prior that we
42:39hadn't gone all the way at that point
42:41but was just too far and I called in
42:44that evening and I said having I didn't
42:46it just it felt different the first few
42:48times was like hey that was great you
42:49know whatever and then it just felt
42:52different this time it was right before
42:53I was about to be baptized and you know
42:55I already had my interview and and so it
42:58was like
43:00it was just different and he said well
43:02yeah he's like I feel the same way and I
43:03think that's the spirit you know telling
43:05us this that or the other and so um
43:09I think that by driving the spirit away
43:11so much you just get into this
43:13pattern of
43:16it was just
43:17it was convenient there was a couple
43:19times where I didn't answer his text
43:21messages and he would send me little sad
43:23faces or
43:25So eventually he would wait and then he
43:27would call and he would call again and
43:28if I didn't answer he'd call for eight
43:30times and obviously you guys kept this
43:31relationship hidden from everybody else
43:33and uh
43:36because nobody really knew about it well
43:38there were some people who
43:40have I talked to and said yeah they
43:42continue to have a relationship even
43:44after they broke up
43:46and there are others who said who are
43:47saying that
43:48you had become obsessive with
43:51with to the point to where you would go
43:54into his house when he wasn't there or
43:56when you weren't invited and
43:59he would talk to people saying
44:01he's kind of showed up and I don't want
44:04to tell her to leave but
44:06you know I don't want her here oh they
44:09were that was it must have been early on
44:11because there were a couple times when
44:14we established a rule early on just
44:16don't you know don't come over unless he
44:17said you can come over anytime but I
44:19need to know first he's like you just
44:21never know because she ran into somebody
44:22one time right didn't you run into like
44:24one of his ex-girlfriends as well or or
44:26was it the end of Detroit oh yeah well
44:29that was I was that was okay that I was
44:31there he asked me to stay there and um
44:33be with Napoleon because that was during
44:35conference General Conference in October
44:37of last year he took a road trip with
44:39some friends from his church to Utah and
44:42um unless he's going to California he
44:44pretty much leaves Napoleon
44:46at home and so he needed someone to be
44:49there and
44:50it's like I got Full House privileges I
44:53could sleep in the bed I could eat you
44:55know food I've talked to her and she
44:56said that was kind of an unusual kind of
44:58situation she didn't expect you to be
45:00there she didn't at all and so at first
45:02I was like well
45:04I was like did you give Dan any any you
45:07know black over coming over unannounced
45:09because we had just set this role and
45:11he's like I talked to her about it he's
45:13like but I'll tell you what I was on the
45:14phone for three hours with her she was
45:16freaking out that you were there
45:18and um
45:20I think the more that we as the more
45:22people knew about us associating The
45:24more stress we both got from it
45:26and so um it was just easier to try and
45:29keep it a secret and we we didn't always
45:31do a good job with that I think his
45:33roommates may have since he's seen her
45:34heard some things
45:36um
45:37but they were kind of keep to themselves
45:39types so we didn't worry too much about
45:42them
45:43there was actually one roommate John
45:45Hepworth who ended up marrying
45:47remarrying his same wife and moved back
45:49to Utah and um
45:52he I was cleaning his house one day
45:57he's like you know
45:59Travis is dating
46:02he said
46:04okay and I assumed he was you know going
46:08on dates and things he's like no he's
46:09really trying to date
46:13and I said okay and he's like he he's
46:17desperate to get married
46:19I said I know that's true and he's like
46:21I just wanted to tell you that because I
46:22don't think he was being honest with you
46:24and I was like okay so that night
46:27um you know I confronted him about it
46:29and we had a really big fight and it was
46:30also it was just a bunch of things were
46:32thrown in the mix together and and then
46:34we and and I he said listen I'm not
46:38dating anyone
46:40um
46:41but he was very angry at John for
46:43getting into his business
46:45um he told John in a very nice way I
46:48think he I know that you have probably
46:51have good intentions but just you know
46:53mind your own business kind of thing and
46:55from then on
46:57I don't think John really said anything
47:04and that was that was in October I think
47:07you've kind of given me a really good
47:09rundown of your relationship and
47:12um
47:13how you guys thought of each other and
47:15stuff and I was pretty pretty close to
47:17right on with my with my theory on how
47:20you guys you know why you continue to
47:22see each other and what was going on
47:24during that time
47:26um I think there's some other things
47:27that you're not telling me I think
47:30I think maybe you were
47:32the jealousy probably continue even
47:34after the fact that you moved away
47:38for instance the uh
47:42was it the week of the well the first
47:45week of June
47:48you took a trip to Salt Lake City
47:51remember that shirt we talked about oh
47:53this year I'm thinking back
47:55um yeah you had left I think it was like
47:57a Monday more like Monday June 2nd
48:00Monday June 2nd and morning or afternoon
48:03or something I came up with late morning
48:05I think it was morning
48:07had gone down to reading the rented a
48:09car where did you rent that car oh the
48:12Redding Airport
48:13you remember what
48:15car company it was yeah I don't know a
48:17rental company
48:20Ford Focus
48:21yeah I got that from other people in
48:23Utah they said you showed up in a Ford
48:24Focus it was white four-door no
48:30cruise control
48:31I like road trips please control this is
48:34good you don't remember what company it
48:36was
48:37uh okay
48:43okay I could look it up and so
48:46you took a trip and you decided to go to
48:51instead of going over to Utah you went
48:53straight out to Los Angeles area I went
48:55to Santa Cruz first Santa Cruz okay and
48:57then I stayed the night in Monterey
48:59and the next day I drove to Pasadena
49:03okay waiting for Laura to call me back
49:05you didn't contact her at all uh she
49:07contacted me finally after I'd already
49:09left out there was too late yeah and we
49:12had plans to do that again which route
49:14did you take from from there I was
49:17supposed to get on the 15
49:19and go all the way up
49:22and I somehow got off the 15. where did
49:26you end up
49:28um for a while it was lost and I'm not
49:30above sleeping in the car so I slept for
49:32a while I'm a heavy sleeper and I sleep
49:34a lot so but you were on the 15 for a
49:36while and you ended up getting off the
49:3815 somewhere yeah I I looked at a map
49:41but I'm pretty sure I know where I went
49:43can I drag him out sure
49:49because I eventually started seeing
49:50signs um for Phoenix and I was like and
49:53it was several hundred miles away still
49:55like that's weird where am I going
49:58um so we have California Los Angeles
50:01and
50:04um Nevada Arizona Utah
50:08and I was supposed to go somewhere right
50:09up here oh I'm a lefty so the 15 kind of
50:14does one of these yeah
50:16goes through let's say Las Vegas right
50:18here oh yeah
50:20I'm sorry
50:22that's okay so we'll just put just I
50:24just I know it cuts through our Zone in
50:26the corner
50:28Las Vegas
50:29um St George is somewhere here
50:33and then
50:37the 40 runs somewhere this way because
50:40somehow I ended up on the 40.
50:43and when I saw the 40 I'm like
50:45the only thing I associate with the 40
50:47is Flagstaff and Flagstaff is somewhere
50:49Northwest Utah I mean north north
50:52northern Arizona
50:54and so um and it was I was going east
50:57and I was like this isn't this what's
50:59going on here I just I wasn't going the
51:00right way and so I
51:04um I've had for the last two years I've
51:07had a car that has a GPS system and it's
51:09really good and um it I think it's sir
51:13it hasn't served me
51:15as far as getting a sense of direction
51:16when I moved to Palm Desert and you kind
51:18of rely on it a little too much too much
51:20in fact when I moved when I moved in
51:24with the last place I lived in Arizona I
51:26did not know how close it was to Travis
51:28I didn't realize
51:30um I have a very bad sense of direction
51:32and it wasn't until
51:35I began to I used my GPS the whole time
51:38I was there pretty much just to find
51:39things
51:42anyway so I got back
51:44I looked at the MapQuest that I I've
51:46mapped West a bunch of places I was
51:48maybe going to go to Death Valley
51:50um I was amazing did you actually cross
51:51over into Arizona is that how far you
51:53went I crossed over twice I think my map
51:56was wrong because the 93 goes north and
51:58then I hit the 15 again
52:01here and then I hit Arizona
52:06somehow I got North on the 93.
52:09and then I hit the 15.
52:11so I mean I don't know where Phoenix is
52:14in Mesa it's got to be over here yeah I
52:16didn't go anywhere near there
52:18so you you took this trip and you left
52:21on
52:23was it Monday
52:25the second
52:27right
52:29and you didn't get to Utah until
52:33Thursday you told me yeah I got tea time
52:35Thursday so Thursday and that's the
52:39fifth
52:41yeah I think so one day that's Tuesday
52:45Wednesday Thursday
52:48okay so we have
52:50it's like 48 hours there that
52:53obviously three days but
52:56plenty there's 48 hours so this trip
52:58took you a little over 48 hours today
53:01um I have a problem with this trip well

53:14beautiful little place here except it's
53:15kind of smoky and I can't see the views
53:19I was hoping to see some mountains but

53:23I've gone over this trip over and over

53:37even if you pulled over to sleep
53:40a couple of times did I tell you that I
53:42got stranded yeah
53:44you mentioned that if you slept for 10

53:48from here and here it would still leave
53:5318 some odd hours
53:57for something else okay this is what
54:00people are focusing on is this trip that
54:03you took because they're saying she left
54:05she gets until Thursday

54:14some Travis was killed
54:20I did not go near his house isn't there
54:23aren't there I pulled your cell records
54:25your cell phone was turned off

54:32okay but
54:34the last place it pulled it

55:13and then it magically he you found your
55:16charging here it was it was under the
55:18back
55:19seat of the passenger side and it was
55:21when I was when you were lost you
55:23couldn't have maybe pulled over and
55:24found it well I did finally start
55:26looking when I was stranded
55:28I wouldn't I wouldn't have pulled over
55:29when I was lost
55:31okay this I've been focusing on this and
55:33going over and over my mind
55:37why this happened why your phone turns
55:40off here
55:41outside of Los Angeles
55:44what city is that because I got a tour
55:46as far as um it's not cities there's
55:48Towers okay Towers dotted all over this
55:52place yeah
55:53yeah one tower hit here
55:54the tower here on the 93.
55:57there is no way
55:59somebody can get on that 15 and
56:01magically get on that 93.
56:03because that 15 goes right through Las
56:05Vegas
56:06right there
56:08and continues this way it never goes
56:10through Arizona I got off before Las
56:12Vegas
56:16the 15. you'd have to go to Las Vegas
56:19and then come down south go through
56:21Boulder City
56:23I went through Boulder City going north
56:27did you cross over the uh
56:30go down
56:33you didn't think that was odd you were
56:34crossing it over well after I figured
56:36out it was lost by then and I found
56:38the 93 and then found my way back to the
56:4015. and this Tower here it's not just
56:45over the Border in Arizona it's quite a
56:47distance inside of Arizona that it hit
56:50because there is a mountain range all
56:53along here
56:56and if you're on this side of the
56:57mountain range
56:58pretty good distance that Signal's not
57:01going to come not going to hit you to
57:03power Utah
57:04or Nevada or California it's not going
57:07to hit Arizona
57:08well I had somehow gotten off the 15 and
57:11gone to the 40.
57:13this is what happened
57:15the only way you can get on the 40
57:17is if after you cross
57:20the bridge
57:21or the uh the dam I think I got on the
57:2440 in California
57:28from the 15.
57:31well like because I had actually gotten
57:33I actually began to drive to 10 west but
57:36you see what I'm saying the confusion
57:37that we're having
57:39and we'll come back to this well I got
57:43on the 40 somewhere over here
57:45in California
57:48drive this way real I realized I was not
57:50in the right place at all
57:52and then I got onto the 93 North and
57:55then I hit the 15 again and then I went
57:57through Las Vegas and then St George and
57:58then on two times
58:02doesn't and I can pull them out to show
58:05them to you and you can go over and over
58:07and over again
58:09but I don't think you're being
58:10completely honest with me
58:11about about that trip I honestly got
58:14lost
58:16it's
58:17bad timing
58:22were you at Travis's house on Wednesday
58:24absolutely not it was I was nowhere near
58:26Mesa it was nowhere near no Phoenix
58:31foreign
58:51I was not at Travis's house it was not
58:56you were at Travis's house
58:59you guys had a sexual encounter
59:02which here's pictures
59:06I know you know there's pictures because
59:09I have them
59:12I will show them to you

59:20it's for you to be honest with me

1:00:33get the time stamps on them not all of
1:00:35them but most of them have time stamps
1:00:37on them and we can verify those
1:00:38timestamps
1:00:39and I have pictures of you in Travis's
1:00:42bedroom with Travis pictures of him
1:00:45and
1:00:47it's obvious you guys are having sex
1:00:50taking
1:00:52photos of each other
1:00:54and they're dated and time stamped on
1:00:57the day he died
1:00:59are you sure it's me I mean that because
1:01:02I was not there it's you
1:01:09I know all
1:01:12that I don't know is why
1:01:15why did you choose
1:01:17to go visit Travis that day
1:01:21and why did you do what you did
1:01:26yeah why did you try this
1:01:28you did
1:01:32you hurt him
1:01:34that's why we're here

1:02:30during the time he was being killed

1:35:31do anything to a photo

1:43:56explain the hair I don't know
1:43:58I can't explain the Blogger there

1:44:03there's hair everywhere and probably
1:44:05every square inch of that house my hair

1:44:09everywhere all over around the toilet
1:44:11around in the shop I don't know what the
1:44:12shower because the shower gets used but
1:44:13definitely around the bottom of the um

1:44:20follicle in it you haven't been there

1:44:30the blood
1:44:33no well the blood is mixed with his and
1:44:36that's that's the blood that he that he
1:44:38bled that day when he was killed well

1:44:44check how fresh the blood was no we
1:44:46can't check how fresh it is but we can
1:44:48go by where it is okay because I cut
1:44:50myself
1:44:54and you're saying that that blood
1:44:58that you cut yourself with back who
1:45:01knows when
1:45:02it was still on the wall in the exact
1:45:05same spot oh I don't know where the
1:45:08where the bloody palm print was
1:45:14a
1:45:19ble to give him that and I dropped it
1:45:21and when I picked up all the glass and
1:45:22I'm pretty casual about it because I
1:45:24break glass at work all the time and
1:45:26it's not a big deal it's nothing to be
1:45:27scared of
1:45:28I was probably just being careless with
1:45:30it and I sliced myself open and is that
1:45:33how you want to leave this
1:45:35because these far-fetched excuses on why
1:45:38your blood is there while your hair is
1:45:40there like a palm print is there what
1:45:43pictures are there
1:45:46that's how you want to leave this
1:45:48I wouldn't want to
1:45:51I seriously would not want to
1:45:55you need to come out
1:45:57and tell me why this happened
1:45:59I will not accept any other excuses
1:46:04I will just move on with my
1:46:05investigation with my final report
1:46:08submitting all the conclusions and all
1:46:11the evidence
1:46:13and we can just let that judge and the
1:46:15jury decide
1:46:17you yourself said that fewer in my shoes
1:46:19you would think that I was guilty
1:46:25we can leave it in the hands of a jury

1:47:47I think this setting is a little bit
1:47:48better
1:47:52but it's up to you

1:48:03that Travis was either
1:48:06in the shower or just outside the shower
1:48:08with him shot
1:48:10know somebody who was extremely angry at
1:48:13him
1:48:16took a knife to him
1:48:20and couldn't stop
1:48:23I couldn't stop
1:48:26and before you knew it it was all over
1:48:28and then you panicked
1:48:31and then I would I've never been angry
1:48:34that angry at him not enough for that
1:48:36I've been so far angrier at other people
1:48:38and other ex-boyfriends
1:48:41didn't tell me who could have done this
1:48:45who did this I don't know but if I am
1:48:49if I go to trial for this and if I'm if
1:48:51I'm convicted for this whoever did this
1:48:53is going to be sitting very pretty
1:48:54somewhere glad that it wasn't them
1:48:57and it's my job to make sure that
1:49:00and so person does not go to jail
1:49:04but I don't see this in person sitting
1:49:06in front of me
1:49:09when I asked you I always I always asked
1:49:12this one question
1:49:14actually it's two first one is did you
1:49:17kill Travis
1:49:19moments that I am I didn't have anything
1:49:22to do with it
1:49:23then I asked you similar question
1:49:26did you have anything to do with
1:49:28Travis's death
1:49:31you hesitated again that's because I
1:49:34feel like if I had gone to Arizona like
1:49:36most people would say no
1:49:40did you kill Travis no well I didn't and

1:49:45do I feel responsible I've been carrying
1:49:47around guilt since I heard about it why
1:49:49do you feel responsible if you felt
1:49:51responsible what means you know

1:49:54actions led to his death because he
1:49:57always has guilted me he's always
1:49:58guilted me and so you feel somebody else
1:50:02you feel somebody else killed him

1:50:07don't know how do you feel guilty
1:50:09because you don't know the reason here's
1:50:11why I feel guilty the one of the last
1:50:13times we spoke he was guilting me
1:50:16coming to see him and part of my heart
1:50:18still wanted to go see him and another
1:50:20part just wants to move on and
1:50:24pursue this new Avenue which was in Utah
1:50:27and there is a tinge of guilt you know
1:50:30when he would text me and he would say
1:50:32hey you want to come over and make out
1:50:33or wanna
1:50:36um
1:50:37I didn't respond one night and I just
1:50:40stayed strong and I didn't respond and
1:50:42then he called and called and called and
1:50:45then the next day he was like you don't
1:50:47care about me you don't love me you
1:50:50don't care I was there all alone and you
1:50:53didn't want to come and hang out or you
1:50:54didn't want to come and keep me company
1:50:56and he says it not like that but in that
1:50:58tone but it's in the sweetest sweetest
1:51:00way and it's it's it's guilt
1:51:04um
1:51:05still don't get the guilt I really don't
1:51:08you keep explaining it but it has
1:51:09nothing to do with whether because he
1:51:11guilty is killed or not how is you being
1:51:14there going to prevent him from being
1:51:16killed
1:51:17well I kind of kind of feel like I had
1:51:19gone that
1:51:22watching a movie
1:51:25done something more than just him
1:51:28I just feel like if if there was some
1:51:30way that I I could have prevented it
1:51:32there's some way that I could have done
1:51:34something to stop it and I told that to
1:51:36a few people know like well you might
1:51:37have been killed too
1:51:39maybe but maybe Travis would still be
1:51:41alive
1:51:47Travis has done a lot for me and I
1:51:49wouldn't hurt him
1:51:52he introduced The Gospel to me
1:51:57I prove to says otherwise Joey I can't
1:52:03I can't deny that
1:52:05I can't deny that proof
1:52:07and that proof is not pointing at
1:52:09anybody else
1:52:11nobody
1:52:12nobody in this entire world except you
1:52:17nobody
1:52:21nobody else was in that house that day

1:52:30didn't even go to Mesa can you check can

1:52:51um from Mesa and one of our stops on the
1:52:53way was Roswell after he drove all night
1:52:56and I slept and then when after Roswell
1:52:59Museum it was my turn to drive and he's
1:53:01like just get on this and drive 98 point
1:53:04something miles and then we should be
1:53:06there so I got on the road and I drove
1:53:0898.6 or two or whatever miles it was
1:53:12and I woke him up and I said I don't
1:53:14think we're here and he will come looked
1:53:15around it was just like rolling Fields
1:53:17Forever and I drove completely in the
1:53:20wrong direction and I'm not saying
1:53:25I don't know I'm just saying I have a
1:53:27poor sense of direction I got totally
1:53:29lost
1:53:30I know maybe that's just bad luck I got
1:53:33totally lost so even if you're not
1:53:35totally lost it doesn't explain all that
1:53:37time
1:53:38it does not I mean if you went four
1:53:41hours here or five hours in a wrong
1:53:43direction it's still at that one point I
1:53:46wasn't going anywhere because I ran out
1:53:47of gas
1:53:48I was totally stranded
1:53:54I was sitting like a Sitting Duck and
1:53:56that's when I began it was it was a
1:53:58little bit warm and it wasn't too hot
1:54:00but
1:54:01um that's when I just I read for a
1:54:03little bit I already slept um
1:54:06and that's when I just started looking
1:54:07around the car and organizing stuff and
1:54:11getting trash together and had a couple
1:54:13bites to eat from snacks that I had and
1:54:15when I said cleaning out under the seat
1:54:16I found my phone charger plugged it in
1:54:18powered it on there was no cell phone
1:54:19reception anywhere so you've never seen
1:54:22his camera
1:54:24there's a new camera I don't know he
1:54:26described it did you ever touch his
1:54:28camera
1:54:30I've never seen it okay so there's no
1:54:32reason your fingerprints should be on it
1:54:35because that thing's off at a lab right
1:54:37now
1:54:38and
1:54:40they're hopeful that they can get some
1:54:41prints off the camera okay and if your
1:54:43prints come back on that camera what are
1:54:45you gonna say
1:54:47well they won't come back on you because
1:54:48I've never touched it
1:54:56yourself can't explain the rest of this
1:54:58stuff
1:55:00I honestly can't explain the pictures
1:55:02the other stuff and or the palm print
1:55:04the other stuff I can explain it I can't
1:55:06explain the blood either
1:55:08because that blood is in blood I mean
1:55:11that it's it's part of the print
1:55:14unless you cut yourself
1:55:17at the beginning of the year and left
1:55:18your palm print and blood
1:55:20and it stayed there until he was killed
1:55:23I cut myself it wasn't the beginning of
1:55:25the year it was before convention no you
1:55:27can't explain that
1:55:30I'd have to say early March
1:55:32that palm print is there
1:55:35in blood
1:55:37partially yours and partially is
1:55:43is it possible there's just like any
1:55:46other way in the universe that that
1:55:47could have gotten there
1:55:49possible
1:55:51probable is the question you need to ask
1:55:53who probably was absolutely not probable
1:55:57I understand that but it is possible

1:56:42why is everybody saying that you are
1:56:43capable of hurting him

1:56:48so don't tell me that you're not capable
1:56:50I don't even hurt spiders
1:56:55have you ever had any anger issues

1:56:58never in your past
1:57:03arguments well everybody has arguments
1:57:05I'm talking about anger
1:57:07just absolute anger
1:57:10you just you lose it sometimes
1:57:12no I had a nervous breakdown once
1:57:15a chicken and a baby medication or
1:57:17anything about that
1:57:19well I had a nervous breakdown when a
1:57:21boyfriend and I were already once and
1:57:25and he he began to argue with me in a
1:57:28way that was totally different from how
1:57:30we had ever argued before and he was
1:57:32just like every time I'd say something
1:57:34he was like no no no you know it was
1:57:36kind of weird like
1:57:38every time I tried to formulate a
1:57:40thought and I was just sad and I was
1:57:42crying every time I tried swimming with
1:57:43that he would interject and twist it and
1:57:46it was like the weirdest psychological
1:57:48thing that had ever happened and
1:57:51and the way I reacted was I went into my
1:57:54room it was the guy I bought a house
1:57:56with
1:57:57um I went into my room and shut the door
1:57:59we had separate bedrooms
1:58:01I was in his room and went down the hall
1:58:04to my room and shut the door and I just
1:58:05remember hyperventilating
1:58:07and that's all
1:58:09and I was crying
1:58:11and then I went to get something out of
1:58:13my car
1:58:14and when he saw that he um maybe thought
1:58:17it was going to leave so he asked me for
1:58:18the key to his truck and pulled behind
1:58:20my car because he thought that because I
1:58:21was upset I shouldn't drive anywhere
1:58:23but I mean that's
1:58:26other than arguments no anchor issues
1:58:35that I can remember
1:58:38I kicked a dog once
1:58:42I was a freshman in high school
1:58:45and
1:58:47I love love love animals
1:58:51and one we had this dog his name was
1:58:54doggy boy and my parents until this dog
1:58:57that they have now have never been able
1:58:58to and I don't mean just them we as a
1:59:01family have never been able to care for
1:59:03a dog properly as far as giving
1:59:04attention and taking for walks and be
1:59:06consistent
1:59:07um so the stock stayed in the backyard a
1:59:09lot and he stayed tied up on you know in
1:59:11the shade with plenty of you know leeway
1:59:13at one point though he was untied and I
1:59:16took the trash out
1:59:18and he and this is when my little
1:59:20brother and sister were still in diapers
1:59:21and he tore this it was a diaper trash
1:59:24and he tore diapers all over the yard
1:59:28and of course I had to clean it up and
1:59:29when diapers get wet and they're like
1:59:32this jelly spongy weird stuff and
1:59:35I just I got
1:59:38I just kicked in with my right foot
1:59:40and he just moved a few feet and he
1:59:43didn't yell for anything but he just
1:59:44went
1:59:45he ran away and I never saw him go after
1:59:48that
1:59:49and
1:59:50I mean that's probably an anger issue I
1:59:52guess but
1:59:53well once I'm kicking dogs
1:59:55it changed my world as far as animal
1:59:58treatment goes because I just
2:00:01I've never seen him since
2:00:05and I need to apologize for that to him
2:00:07I know it sounds weird in my
2:00:09relationship with animals it's kind of
2:00:10like they're like people too you know
2:00:11they have souls
2:00:13you need to do is you need to apologize

2:00:17did you just refuse and I can't help you

2:01:32world has traveled and he said um
2:01:35the true definition of Sanity is
2:01:37dedication to reality at all costs
2:01:40so I think at times you know I may have
2:01:43you know prayed or meditated upon a
2:01:46certain way you know like like me being
2:01:49um wealthy or something like that but
2:01:54oh this is definitely reality
2:01:57we are sitting here inside of an office
2:02:01the Sheriff's Department
2:02:03then you are facing first degree murder
2:02:05charges
2:02:07are
2:02:09going to be booked into jail and
2:02:11eventually you will be brought back to
2:02:13Arizona and you will stand trial
2:02:18that's the reality and once you realize
2:02:20that I think you'll be better for it
2:02:25and if you really wanted to embrace
2:02:26reality you would sit here and explain
2:02:28to me why this happened
2:02:30but you refuse you refuse to embrace
2:02:33reality
2:02:42me
2:02:44um
2:02:45I've had worse issues with other people
2:02:46they're all still alive I'm still
2:02:49friends with my ex-boyfriends they're
2:02:50all still alive you know I've been doing
2:02:52this a long time
2:02:55and there's one thing that
2:02:57I can never get out of my head ever
2:03:00since the first day I talked to you
2:03:03there's an old saying that
2:03:05you know someone's just not acting right
2:03:08look into it
2:03:10you have not acted right from day one
2:03:14day one when I talk to you on that phone
2:03:17I just sense that you just you weren't
2:03:20acting like somebody who used to love
2:03:22this guy or who still loved them even as
2:03:25a close friend
2:03:27and even now when I told you that I have
2:03:30all this evidence against you and
2:03:33and that you're facing first degree
2:03:35murder charges you're
2:03:37you're just not acting regularly
2:03:40you're acting like somebody who's guilty
2:03:49you tell me
2:03:52I know because I've been doing it a long
2:03:54time it's taking me a long time to
2:03:56figure it out
2:03:57but within the first
2:04:0130 seconds to a minute of a conversation
2:04:03I can I know when something's acting
2:04:05right there's a certain way people act
2:04:08it's not like TV it's not anything
2:04:12I've seen it will be
2:04:14I see reality
2:04:16when I accuse somebody of committed
2:04:19penis crime or
2:04:21you know something very serious
2:04:24reality hits in and they definitely act
2:04:27a certain way
2:04:29and that's not you
2:04:31you act just like everybody else who I
2:04:34accused of doing a crime
2:04:36who did it
2:04:39there's no other way to tell you is it
2:04:41because I'm not crying
2:04:46it's not because of that what is it
2:04:48I mean I'm not going to change how it
2:04:50happens no obviously she's gonna change
2:04:52I mean I am okay you're sincere in the
2:04:55way you're acting
2:04:57but uh well you're just you're just not
2:05:00telling the truth
2:05:01how is it different
2:05:04it's not really something you need to
2:05:06focus on anymore
2:05:07I think you need to focus on the truth
2:05:09but it's something that you refuse
2:05:12so if you don't if you don't want to
2:05:14continue then
2:05:15then we'll just move on to the next step

2:05:22it's not that I didn't love Travis
2:05:26I still love him
2:05:27but
2:05:29I really needed to move on
2:05:32and
2:05:34the last
2:05:36what prevented you from moving on
2:05:39nobody was preventing me from moving on
2:05:41well
2:05:44the only person preventing me really
2:05:46from moving on was myself and until I
2:05:48made that step and I moved back I moved
2:05:50away and we communicated gradually less
2:05:54and less and less and I was fine with
2:05:56that
2:05:57um
2:05:58I haven't found the guy and the man that
2:06:01I want to marry the person I want to
2:06:02spend my life with but in my mind
2:06:05Travis did and I was happy for him and I
2:06:08thought there was also a part of me that
2:06:09felt if I stay I'm gonna jeopardize that
2:06:12for him as well we both deserve to be
2:06:15happy
2:06:16we both deserve to have
2:06:18you know be married in the temple
2:06:21um and that's where he wanted to go
2:06:27so I mean I didn't know that Mimi didn't
2:06:29feel that way I had never spoken to her
2:06:31except at church when I came down to
2:06:33Arizona I was always Avery
2:06:37the bishop who told me that you
2:06:39know but she had essentially turned him
2:06:41down
2:06:42and the last few
2:06:43um
2:06:44I mean now that I think about it he was
2:06:47really just the you know in his in his
2:06:51attitude and stuff and I just thought
2:06:52maybe that's just because we're just
2:06:53beginning to more distance ourselves
2:06:56um
2:06:58and you know he still had his trip
2:07:00planned to come up here
2:07:05I just the the reason I I don't know
2:07:09it's not that I'm not remorseful that he
2:07:11died
2:07:15I didn't kill him
2:07:17I didn't take his life
2:07:19you have anything to do with I have
2:07:22nothing to do with his death at all
2:07:25at all the reason I hesitate is because
2:07:29maybe this is something that's wrong
2:07:30with me psychologically as I think of
2:07:32the butterfly effect
2:07:33and it's like you could say that the guy
2:07:36pumping gas station can get pumping gas
2:07:37down at the gas station could have
2:07:39potentially because you see all these
2:07:40movies these funky movies where it's
2:07:42like this effect of this which affected
2:07:43this which Effectiveness I know if
2:07:45you've never met him could still be
2:07:47alive
2:07:48that's true yeah that's because you
2:07:50killed him no Jody you did I did not

2:07:55can't convince me otherwise unless you
2:07:58come up with more proof
2:08:00that you didn't but I can't prove that
2:08:02anybody else no I couldn't have well
2:08:06what about if the car comes back that it
2:08:07was never even in that area it still
2:08:10doesn't negate the fact that we have
2:08:12this other evidence
2:08:19this is absolutely some of the best
2:08:21evidence I've ever had in a case
2:08:25convicted
2:08:26a few people on less than this well so
2:08:30I'm as good as Don right with that
2:08:32evidence
2:08:36I just can't admit to something that I
2:08:39didn't do if it would help
2:08:42if it would help my case and give me an
2:08:44easier sentence I know people plead
2:08:46guilty for those things and I don't want
2:08:48you to do
2:08:51that that is the absolute last thing I
2:08:54want
2:08:55well what I want to do is I want
2:09:07is I want what caused you to get so
2:09:09angry
2:09:10and the details on that would happen
2:09:14and it's something that you probably
2:09:15don't want to remember
2:09:17but it's something that I need
2:09:20because
2:09:21for me to finish a case completely I
2:09:24need to know
2:09:26not just the details
2:09:28but what was going through your mind
2:09:31because I need to present that
2:09:33as a full picture
2:09:35because if I don't I don't feel that
2:09:38I've completed my job
2:09:40then my job is to speak for him
2:09:43not anybody else
2:09:45my job isn't to speak for you
2:09:47the job isn't to speak for his family
2:09:50it's to speak for Travis
2:09:53and I know something horrible happened
2:09:54that day
2:09:56absolutely horrible
2:09:58something that could have been avoided
2:10:03whether something was planned I don't
2:10:06know
2:10:08whether you planned it or whether it
2:10:10accidentally happened or
2:10:12if something got out of hand I I don't
2:10:15know all I could do is speculate
2:10:18and I want to believe
2:10:21that you're not this cold-hearted person
2:10:24that could just go out and do something
2:10:26like this to somebody
2:10:27I want to believe that
2:10:31like a lot of people
2:10:34things got out of control
2:10:37and before you knew it it was too late
2:10:41that's what I want to believe
2:10:43and that's truly from my heart
2:10:46because I sit here and I've talked to
2:10:47you and and I'm talking to you now and
2:10:50all those conversations we had on the
2:10:51phone and I don't see a cold-hearted
2:10:54murderer like you would see on TV or
2:10:57that I've seen before sit across from me
2:10:59that's not what I see in you
2:11:02and I'm
2:11:05time to call it begging
2:11:06I'm begging you to at least come clean
2:11:09and tell me why
2:11:11because
2:11:13I don't want to leave here today
2:11:17not knowing because it's gonna follow me

2:18:12custody on one of our charges we want
2:18:15them brought back to Arizona
2:18:18or at least allow us to come pick them
2:18:20up and that's called the next tradition

2:18:23you will be given the opportunity to
2:18:26either wave it and say that's fine I'll
2:18:29just go on my own Goodwill
2:18:32or you can fight it
2:18:34and say no I don't want to go back to
2:18:36Arizona what if I say I go on my own
