Full transcript
- 0:02a couple of minutes ago you heard the
- 0:04verdict from the jury what are your
- 0:06thoughts um I think I just went
- 0:10blank just
- 0:16um I don't know I just feel
- 0:20overwhelmed I think I just need
- 0:23to take it a day at a
- 0:26time was it unexpected you think this
- 0:28verdict it was unex expected for me yes
- 0:31because there was no premeditation on my
- 0:34part I can see how things look that way
- 0:37but I didn't expect the premeditation I
- 0:40could see maybe the felony murder
- 0:41because of how the law is written but I
- 0:43didn't the whole time I was fairly
- 0:46confident I wouldn't get premeditation
- 0:48because there was no
- 0:50premeditation it seemed like some of
- 0:51those jurors didn't believe what you
- 0:53were telling them didn't believe your
- 0:54story what are your thoughts on that I
- 0:57can understand that I think because of
- 1:01what I was the lies that I told in the
- 1:03beginning to try to cover up this cover
- 1:05up that hide things that I didn't want
- 1:08to be known made public I don't know
- 1:09that I have a direct message for the
- 1:11jury I know that
- 1:13um I prayed constantly for every single
- 1:15one of them so that's the jury that was
- 1:17brought to me that's the jury that I was
- 1:20meant to have so you you pray for the
- 1:22jury I prayed prior to trial that the
- 1:25right jurors would would be on my on my
- 1:27jury so um I just have to believe that
- 1:31those were the right
- 1:33jors are you focusing on the court or
- 1:35are you focusing on what could be the
- 1:38the worst outcome for you well the worst
- 1:41outcome for me would be natural life I
- 1:44would much rather die sooner than later
- 1:46longevity runs in my family and I don't
- 1:48want to spend the rest of my natural
- 1:49life in one place um you know I'm pretty
- 1:53healthy I don't smoke and I would
- 1:56probably live a long time so that's not
- 1:58something I'm looking forward to
- 2:00um I said years ago that I'd rather get
- 2:03death than life and that still is true
- 2:05today I believe death is the ultimate
- 2:07Freedom so I'd rather just have my
- 2:09freedom soon as soon as I can get it so
- 2:12you're saying you actually prefer
- 2:14getting the death penalty to being in
- 2:16prison for life yes the uh Alexander
- 2:20family uh especially the the Two Sisters
- 2:23uh and the younger brother if you could
- 2:26say something to them what would you
- 2:28like to say to them
- 2:30I hope that now that a verdict has been
- 2:33rendered that they're able to find peace
- 2:36some sense of
- 2:37peace I don't think they'll ever find
- 2:39the pace that they would like but maybe
- 2:43they maybe they'll be able to have
- 2:45greater peace now or some semblance of
- 2:49it and be able to move on with their
- 2:50lives and remember their brother the way
- 2:52they wanted
- 2:54to just the way everything happened
- 2:58um I think that if I had just been
- 3:00honest from the beginning I'd be in a
- 3:02different place and so would everyone
- 3:07else and um because of what I've done a
- 3:11lot of people will hurt for a long
- 3:13[Music]
- 3:18time a lot of people who have talked to
- 3:20me about it have said how could she have
- 3:22gone up and been with another man you
- 3:24know basically 24 hours after this how
- 3:27are you able to put that behind you and
- 3:29basically go on a date I don't think I
- 3:31so much put it behind me as I just sort
- 3:33of checked out I hardly remember that
- 3:36day um I don't remember it being nearly
- 3:39as intimate as he described I remember
- 3:41falling asleep and taking a nap and he
- 3:43was lying next to me um I remember
- 3:47feeling it's strange but I remember
- 3:49feeling safe it's not like I went up
- 3:51there because I was hoping to pursue a
- 3:53relationship I went up there because I
- 3:55thought oh crap I need to keep my
- 3:57schedule so I went up there almost
- 3:59because felt a sense of obligation
- 4:01inside in order to keep up the pretense
- 4:04not because I was going off to have fun
- 4:07so if you had to do this all over again
- 4:10you're in the desert you notice that
- 4:12you've got blood on your hands how do
- 4:14you handle
- 4:16it I would turn around and drive to the
- 4:19Mesa Police
- 4:23Department and what do you think would
- 4:24have happened to you
- 4:26then I don't know but it would have been
- 4:28the right thing
- 4:30because of what I've done a lot of
- 4:32people will hurt for a long
- 4:33[Music]
- 4:38time what I hear from women a lot is if
- 4:41she was getting beat up why didn't she
- 4:44call the police that's probably what you
- 4:46hear from women who have not been in my
- 4:48situation and been abused
- 4:53um I think at that time if I can put
- 4:57myself back in that mind frame at that
- 4:58time my fear of calling the police is
- 5:01that I would be seen as overly dramatic
- 5:07or I would make an enemy of Travis and I
- 5:10really just wanted us to be able to be
- 5:12friends ultimately do you still think
- 5:14about
- 5:15Travis yes in what
- 5:21way
- 5:23um there's a lot of regret because I was
- 5:27really hoping to
- 5:30get a plea and
- 5:32avoid talking about all of the things
- 5:34that came out about him
- 5:38um if we had been able to avoid trial we
- 5:41could have
- 5:43avoided just the murkier aspects of his
- 5:45life that he kept hidden and these
- 5:47aren't just things that came from my
- 5:49mouth they're his own words his own
- 5:51emails his own text
- 5:52messages the activities that he was up
- 5:55to photographs that show that as well
- 5:59none of that ever would have come to
- 6:00light it would have just been forgotten
- 6:01and he would be memorialized
- 6:04as um not perfect by any means but
- 6:08somebody who was known to adhere to his
- 6:11morals and the principles that he
- 6:13espoused but
- 6:16now the curtain has been drawn and you
- 6:19can see the hypocrisy and everything
- 6:21that was there and I regret that because
- 6:23I know that even
- 6:25though he was living the life of a
- 6:28hypocrite that's not how he wanted
- 6:29wanted to be perceived and I think
- 6:31inside he really didn't want to live
- 6:32that kind of
- 6:34Life there were some parts of your story
- 6:36that were definitely backed up by emails
- 6:39and texts and phone conversations and
- 6:41things like that but a lot of people had
- 6:44real issues with the pedophilia when
- 6:45that was brought up um how do you
- 6:48respond to
- 6:49that well again I mean he's fantasizing
- 6:53about having sex with a 12-year-old on a
- 6:56tape that's a pedophile by definition
- 6:59let's go
- 7:00forward it say you do get a long
- 7:02sentence how are you going to spend your
- 7:07life I haven't decided yet
