  7. 0:25life hey thank
  8. 0:28you how's everybody
  9. 0:31nice to see you thanks for coming today
  10. 0:34I appreciate it very much and uh I'm
  11. 0:36just delighted to be here how many of
  12. 0:38you have never seen me before this your
  13. 0:40first time wow
  14. 0:43everybody I keep thinking I'm famous but
  15. 0:46I guess you know that settles that
  16. 0:47anyway nice to see you I've got some
  17. 0:50interesting ideas to share with you if
  18. 0:51you're ready say I'm
  19. 0:53ready and if you'll take some good notes
  20. 0:55I got some lists for you to make that
  21. 0:58you can take home with you and Ponder
  22. 1:00at later times some of the things I want
  23. 1:03to share with you I was raised in
  24. 1:05Southwest Idaho my parents gave me an
  25. 1:09incredibly excellent start in my life
  26. 1:12which I appreciated very much but I quit
  27. 1:15school at age
  28. 1:1719
  29. 1:20unfortunately my reasoning was I'm smart
  30. 1:23enough to get a job how much smarter do
  31. 1:26you need to
  32. 1:27be and with that shallow thinking I quit
  33. 1:30school age 19 and got a job went to work
  34. 1:34little while later got married started a
  35. 1:37little
  36. 1:38family and I'm struggling and you know
  37. 1:40trying to do my best but it seems like
  38. 1:43each year I'm falling just a little bit
  39. 1:45further
  40. 1:47behind finally age
  41. 1:5025 the climax of my sort of you know
  42. 1:55weariness with where I was not doing as
  43. 1:57well as I thought I should I hear a
  44. 2:01knock on my door and I happen to be home
  45. 2:04alone when I opened the door there was a
  46. 2:06little girl scout about this tall
  47. 2:08selling Girl Scout
  48. 2:10cookies and she gave me the finest sales
  49. 2:13presentation I've ever heard Girl Scouts
  50. 2:15around the world no better
  51. 2:18organization and we've got these cookies
  52. 2:21only $2 several flavors and with a big
  53. 2:26smile she very politely asked me to buy
  54. 2:30no problem I wanted to buy big problem I
  55. 2:35haven't got $2 in my
  56. 2:38pocket now I'm a grown man I live in
  57. 2:42America I've been to one year of college
  58. 2:44I'm married I've got a family and I
  59. 2:47don't have $2 in my
  60. 2:50pocket and I didn't want to tell her
  61. 2:52that so I did what I thought was next
  62. 2:54best I lied to her I said hey look I've
  63. 2:58already bought lots of girls Girl Scout
  64. 3:00cookies I've still got plenty in the
  65. 3:02house that we haven't eaten yet and she
  66. 3:04said oh that's wonderful thank you very
  67. 3:07much and she leaves when she leaves I
  68. 3:10say to myself I don't want to live like
  69. 3:14this
  70. 3:15anymore I mean how low can you get lying
  71. 3:18to a Girl Scout I mean that's about as
  72. 3:22low as you can go but I promised myself
  73. 3:24that day I was going to start my search
  74. 3:27of finding opportunity finding somebody
  75. 3:30who could teach me and Coach me on doing
  76. 3:32much better for myself and for my family
  77. 3:34and for my future and shortly after that
  78. 3:37I met a most extraordinary man very
  79. 3:41wealthy but um a friend of mine said you
  80. 3:45got to meet this man he's rich but he's
  81. 3:48easy to talk to he's got a unique
  82. 3:50philosophy of business and life and the
  83. 3:53more he told me about this man the more
  84. 3:55I said I've got to meet this guy and
  85. 3:58shortly after that I had a chance to
  86. 3:59meet him sure
  87. 4:01enough uh when I met him I was impressed
  88. 4:04obviously he was rich but he was
  89. 4:07friendly and easy to talk to and I said
  90. 4:09to myself if I could just get around
  91. 4:12someone like him and if he would coach
  92. 4:15me I would be willing to learn anything
  93. 4:17I'd love to be like him well my good
  94. 4:20fortune was he invited me to join his
  95. 4:23company and over the next 5 years my
  96. 4:25dream came true he coached me and taught
  97. 4:28me how to turn my life from pennies to
  98. 4:31Fortune and he's not alive anymore but
  99. 4:34uh I'd like to pay tribute to him one
  100. 4:36more time Mr Earl cha for the dramatic
  101. 4:40impact he had on my life especially
  102. 4:43during that five-year period And so my
  103. 4:46whole life turned around I made my
  104. 4:48fortune by the time I was 32 starting at
  105. 4:51age
  106. 4:5225 and um some of the ideas that I want
  107. 4:55to share with you today came from that
  108. 4:57five-year experience
  109. 5:00then from there I got into lecturing and
  110. 5:02giving seminars and I've written a few
  111. 5:04books and uh my career now spans about
  112. 5:0741 years but I'll never forget the
  113. 5:10impact this gentleman had on my life
  114. 5:13with a few simple
  115. 5:15Concepts that totally changed my life
  116. 5:17changed my future and changed everything
  117. 5:20Jim Ron's view of the 21st century
  118. 5:22here's number one
  119. 5:24unprecedented
  120. 5:27opportunity we not only have begun a New
  121. 5:30Century Century 21 it's a new
  122. 5:34millennium a millennium is a
  123. 5:36Thousand-Year period we've had six so
  124. 5:38far this is the beginning of the seventh
  125. 5:41Millennium and some Scholars tell us
  126. 5:44that this could very well be an
  127. 5:45extraordinary time for the human race
  128. 5:48this seventh
  129. 5:50Millennium and there's probably a lot of
  130. 5:52good reason that that is probably
  131. 5:55true unprecedented opportunity uh We've
  132. 5:58now got the technology
  133. 6:00uh we pick up a telephone now and talk
  134. 6:01to somebody on the other side of the
  135. 6:03world Transportation now is so easy I
  136. 6:07get on an airplane in Los Angeles and uh
  137. 6:1013 hours later I'm in
  138. 6:12Tokyo five meals three movies and you're
  139. 6:15there I mean you know it's a simple deal
  140. 6:18anyway we've got technology we've got
  141. 6:19Transportation we've got all the rest
  142. 6:21right so this is going to be a time of
  143. 6:23unprecedented opportunity in every field
  144. 6:26you can imagine every industry every
  145. 6:29every country it's going to be the
  146. 6:31greatest period of opportunity time in
  147. 6:35the history of the human race the 21st
  148. 6:37century especially these opening years
  149. 6:39of the 21st century so that's number one
  150. 6:42unprecedented opportunity now here's the
  151. 6:44second note to take now also Keen
  152. 6:48competition because we now play the
  153. 6:50world game and it's not just competition
  154. 6:53across the street and Company to company
  155. 6:55and you know division to division and uh
  156. 6:58you know company to company now it's
  157. 7:00worldwide
  158. 7:02competition a job now becomes available
  159. 7:04does it go to someone in Minnesota or
  160. 7:06someone in
  161. 7:08India worldwide competition so now
  162. 7:12you've got to be ready to cash in on the
  163. 7:14opportunity but you've also got to be
  164. 7:16ready for the competition so I've got
  165. 7:20some interesting ideas on how to be
  166. 7:21prepared for both opportunity and
  167. 7:25competition in these opening years of
  168. 7:27the 21st century here's some of my best
  169. 7:30advice number one you've got to have
  170. 7:33more than one
  171. 7:36skill it's okay to have one skill but
  172. 7:38I'm telling you if you want economic
  173. 7:40safety for the future especially this
  174. 7:42Century my personal opinion you need
  175. 7:45more than one
  176. 7:47skill we've seen people ride the last 15
  177. 7:5020 years that only had one skill work
  178. 7:53for this company for a long time the
  179. 7:54division the guy worked for got chopped
  180. 7:56eliminated now he loses his job now
  181. 7:59tells us he's in economic distress why
  182. 8:03would that be simple answer he only
  183. 8:06had one skill so for economic safety for
  184. 8:10the future my personal advice you got to
  185. 8:14have more than one
  186. 8:15skill in fact it led me to my first
  187. 8:19fortune and that was learning more than
  188. 8:21one skill I started learning these extra
  189. 8:24skills in Idaho where I grew up I knew
  190. 8:28how to milk cows but it didn't pay very
  191. 8:31well then someone gave me this
  192. 8:34incredible advice if you want to lay the
  193. 8:36foundation for a future Fortune you've
  194. 8:39got to learn more than one skill and I
  195. 8:41started that process age
  196. 8:4425 here's the first one and I started
  197. 8:46part-time a little
  198. 8:48sales job that I got a product that I
  199. 8:51believed in learned how to present it
  200. 8:53well enough for somebody to say yes gave
  201. 8:55excellent service so that that would
  202. 8:57lead to multiple sales and this this
  203. 8:59little extra part-time job in
  204. 9:02sales absolutely started multiplying my
  205. 9:07income from milk and cows now I've got
  206. 9:10this ability now to start getting
  207. 9:13customers keep them serviced and make
  208. 9:16some money in this extra skill so now
  209. 9:18I've got two skills milking cows and
  210. 9:21finding
  211. 9:22customers here's the next skill I
  212. 9:23learned just to give you a quick list
  213. 9:26next was Finding good
  214. 9:28people if you've got a little Enterprise
  215. 9:30going and you need some people you have
  216. 9:31to just go look for
  217. 9:33them and when I learned this skill
  218. 9:36finding good people for my little
  219. 9:40Enterprise I couldn't believe how it
  220. 9:42drastically changed my
  221. 9:45income my income now starts to multiply
  222. 9:49not just
  223. 9:50increase so now I've got what three
  224. 9:53skills milking cows getting customers
  225. 9:56finding good people I'm on my way here's
  226. 9:59the next one that paid me big money in
  227. 10:01case you're interested and that's
  228. 10:05organizing organizing simply means
  229. 10:07getting people to work
  230. 10:09together big challenge but if you learn
  231. 10:12the skill getting people to work
  232. 10:14together they
  233. 10:15pay
  234. 10:17extraordinary money here's the next one
  235. 10:20that really increased my income
  236. 10:22substantially and that's promotion and
  237. 10:25recognition rewarding people for small
  238. 10:28steps of progress
  239. 10:29I mastered this
  240. 10:32one and here's the philosophy behind it
  241. 10:35be so busy giving other people
  242. 10:37recognition you really don't need it for
  243. 10:41yourself I mastered this guess what it
  244. 10:45pays big
  245. 10:48money let me just give you one more and
  246. 10:50it's in three parts and that's
  247. 10:52communication learning to affect other
  248. 10:54people with your
  249. 10:56language of all the things not to be
  250. 10:58lazy about its language because words
  251. 11:01can work
  252. 11:03miracles and communication I found in
  253. 11:06three parts here's number one training
  254. 11:07showing somebody how the job
  255. 11:10Works showing somebody how the business
  256. 11:12works we call that training I got good
  257. 11:15at that paid big money here was the next
  258. 11:18one
  259. 11:19teaching teaching people how life Works
  260. 11:22teaching people how to set
  261. 11:24goals teaching how to become a leader
  262. 11:27manager
  263. 11:30entrepreneur stepping up to the higher
  264. 11:32opportunity and better
  265. 11:36challenge this one paid
  266. 11:38me extraordinary
  267. 11:40money but this one paid the best
  268. 11:43learning to
  269. 11:45inspire helping people to see themselves
  270. 11:48better than they are so I've got how
  271. 11:51many skills right a big long list so
  272. 11:55safety economic safety for the future
  273. 11:58especially the opening years of the 21st
  274. 12:00century learn
  275. 12:02more than one skill here's number two it
  276. 12:06would be good to learn more than one
  277. 12:11language some of my business colleagues
  278. 12:14who uh speak three or four languages
  279. 12:16earn three4 million a
  280. 12:20year one of my friends Leon Weis Bine
  281. 12:22from Russia I remember when he was
  282. 12:24making $3 million a year he spoke three
  283. 12:27languages here's what he said I think
  284. 12:29learn another language make another
  285. 12:30million
  286. 12:32dollars those extra languages are so
  287. 12:35valuable when I travel the world I got
  288. 12:36to find somebody that knows more than
  289. 12:38one language or I'm in deep trouble if
  290. 12:40you think the time has passed you by to
  291. 12:42learn that second third language make
  292. 12:45this note you heard it from Jim ran give
  293. 12:48it as a gift to your
  294. 12:50children the second language maybe
  295. 12:53that'll Inspire him to learn the third
  296. 12:55language and then no telling where it
  297. 12:58might go from there
  298. 13:00I asked a school teacher one time how
  299. 13:01many languages can a child learn here's
  300. 13:03what she said as many as you will teach
  301. 13:07them they don't lack capacity they don't
  302. 13:10lack intelligence they certainly don't
  303. 13:11lack curiosity they only
  304. 13:14lack a
  305. 13:16teacher so you got my good advice now
  306. 13:19more than one skill more than one
  307. 13:22language here's the rest learn the
  308. 13:25simple
  309. 13:27economic formula that works for
  310. 13:31everybody and I can give it to you in
  311. 13:33just a couple of sentences a simple
  312. 13:35economic formula kids can understand it
  313. 13:38anybody can understand it anybody that
  314. 13:40wants to get paid here's the language
  315. 13:42for your
  316. 13:43notes we get paid for bringing value to
  317. 13:47the
  318. 13:49marketplace that's as simple as you can
  319. 13:51put economics anybody that wants to get
  320. 13:52paid you get paid for bringing value to
  321. 13:56the marketplace the marketplace is the
  322. 13:58people
  323. 14:01now the value we bring is one part of
  324. 14:04it a product or a service but here's the
  325. 14:07other part the value you
  326. 14:09become so just off to the side put the
  327. 14:12value is two parts the value you bring
  328. 14:14like a product if you manufactured it
  329. 14:16you might keep improving the product if
  330. 14:18someone else manufactured it and you're
  331. 14:19out selling it they probably keep
  332. 14:21improving the product but this is the
  333. 14:24one you have to work on yourself the
  334. 14:26value you
  335. 14:27become like an
  336. 14:29entrepreneur a leader a
  337. 14:33teacher supervisor
  338. 14:36manager what you become also pays much
  339. 14:40more than what you
  340. 14:42bring once I understood
  341. 14:46that then here's what my mentor said go
  342. 14:49to work on yourself harder than you work
  343. 14:52on your
  344. 14:55job if you work hard on your job you can
  345. 14:57make a living then and he said if you
  346. 14:59work hard on yourself you could make a
  347. 15:04fortune so I worked hard on my job and
  348. 15:06made a living but I learned starting
  349. 15:09with those extra hours per week learning
  350. 15:11these extra skills I started working on
  351. 15:15myself and here's a philosophical phrase
  352. 15:17everybody should take home here it is
  353. 15:19success is something you
  354. 15:22attract by becoming an attractive
  355. 15:27person Success is Not something you
  356. 15:30pursue it's what you attract by becoming
  357. 15:34attractive by becoming attractive to the
  358. 15:36marketplace what would do that multiple
  359. 15:40skills multiple
  360. 15:42languages and then some of the things
  361. 15:44I'm going to talk
  362. 15:46about the rest of the
  363. 15:49seminar so now what else would help you
  364. 15:52to be attractive to the marketplace
  365. 15:54besides more than one skill and more
  366. 15:57than one languages
  367. 15:59I've divided it into five five simple
  368. 16:03basic fundamentals of ideas to ponder
  369. 16:06and think about that will increase your
  370. 16:09value to the marketplace could perhaps
  371. 16:12like it did for me multiply your income
  372. 16:14by two and then multiply it by three and
  373. 16:18then multiply your income by four and
  374. 16:21then by five and once you get there it's
  375. 16:25not that difficult to multiply it by 10
  376. 16:30because all you have to do is make sure
  377. 16:31you become more valuable and more
  378. 16:34valuable and more valuable you don't
  379. 16:36have to work on the economy because
  380. 16:39here's the first
  381. 16:40note each person's income is determined
  382. 16:43primarily by their
  383. 16:45philosophy not by the
  384. 16:48economy once I understood that then I
  385. 16:50said well I don't have to go to work on
  386. 16:52the economy and the answer was no you
  387. 16:54only have to go to
  388. 16:55work on yourself
  389. 16:59to make yourself more
  390. 17:02valuable so now here's five things I
  391. 17:04want to share with you and the first one
  392. 17:06is your personal
  393. 17:07philosophy what could get you more
  394. 17:09prepared and ready for cashing in on the
  395. 17:12opportunity of the 21st century and
  396. 17:15here's the first one personal philosophy
  397. 17:17your personal philosophy is like a
  398. 17:19guidance system that helps you make
  399. 17:21decisions what to do what not to do from
  400. 17:24the information you get and what you
  401. 17:25learn and what you know we decide
  402. 17:28maybe your philosophy would have been 5
  403. 17:30years ago never to attend seminars like
  404. 17:33this you just didn't go now 5 years
  405. 17:35later here you are something happened
  406. 17:37along the way to change your mindset
  407. 17:39saying hey for the money and the time if
  408. 17:42I just get one good idea and walk away
  409. 17:45it certainly is worth the money in the
  410. 17:47time so now that little amendment in
  411. 17:49your philosophy you now say I'm going to
  412. 17:52regularly go because it doesn't take but
  413. 17:55a few ideas to make a great difference
  414. 17:57in your income personal life social life
  415. 17:59and all the rest so now you know that's
  416. 18:03valuable a change of mind a change of
  417. 18:06idea so that's what personal philosophy
  418. 18:09is all about the more we learn the more
  419. 18:11we know the better we're able to make
  420. 18:13better decisions about two major things
  421. 18:16your philosophical guidance system does
  422. 18:18two
  423. 18:19things for your notes number one helps
  424. 18:22you to see the dangers on one
  425. 18:24side so you can avoid
  426. 18:27those but here here's what else your
  427. 18:29guidance system does personal philosophy
  428. 18:32helps you to see the opportunities on
  429. 18:34the other side so that you can expand
  430. 18:38those maximize those and here's what
  431. 18:41that's called The Game of Life is to
  432. 18:44minimize the dangers and maximize the
  433. 18:47opportunities and the more we know and
  434. 18:49the more we learn the more experience We
  435. 18:51Gather in sessions like this from the
  436. 18:54sermon on Sunday morning to the books we
  437. 18:57read and all the rest helps us to keep
  438. 19:00continually adjusting our philosophical
  439. 19:03guidance system so that we minimize more
  440. 19:06dangers maximize more opportunities
  441. 19:09that's really the game of life I
  442. 19:11couldn't put it much more simply so
  443. 19:14number one we're affected by what we
  444. 19:17know now how do we know more things and
  445. 19:19learn more things that'll help us
  446. 19:21readjust our thinking so we can avoid
  447. 19:24the dangers maximize the
  448. 19:26opportunities here's number one learn
  449. 19:28learn from personal
  450. 19:31experience one way to learn do to do
  451. 19:33something right is what first do it
  452. 19:36wrong right mess up and then you say wow
  453. 19:39that was costly I'm never going to do
  454. 19:41that again so one way to learn to do it
  455. 19:43right first do it
  456. 19:45wrong sometimes a negative experience
  457. 19:47turns out finally to be
  458. 19:50positive they say if you survive your
  459. 19:52first heart attack you may now live to
  460. 19:55be a very old person
  461. 19:58why is that well that first heart attack
  462. 20:01if you survived it is called a wakeup
  463. 20:06call and maybe the doctor said one more
  464. 20:09of these in your history and you said
  465. 20:14wow and you make it for the health food
  466. 20:18store and you start reading every book
  467. 20:20you can find on good nutrition how to
  468. 20:24avoid another one of these heart attacks
  469. 20:26and you start jogging and start walking
  470. 20:28and doing all of the stuff and this
  471. 20:31total change of Lifestyle could now save
  472. 20:34your life and cause you to live to be a
  473. 20:37very old
  474. 20:38person here's what my mentor said that
  475. 20:40some of the best advice I ever got he
  476. 20:42said Mr ran if you will change
  477. 20:45everything will change for you if you'll
  478. 20:48start making personal changes your
  479. 20:50income will change your health will
  480. 20:51change your future will change
  481. 20:53everything will change if you're willing
  482. 20:55to start making the changes so sometimes
  483. 20:57a negative experience experience now
  484. 20:59causes us to really make a sudden shift
  485. 21:03in our philosophical guidance system
  486. 21:06that says hey I'm never going to let
  487. 21:07this happen to me again
  488. 21:10fantastic now here's the next way to
  489. 21:12learn and that is to learn from other
  490. 21:14people's
  491. 21:15experiences whether they are negative or
  492. 21:20positive it's too bad failures don't
  493. 21:22give seminars like
  494. 21:26this wouldn't that be good information
  495. 21:29now we don't want to pay them so they
  496. 21:31don't lecture so but their information
  497. 21:34would be
  498. 21:35valuable if you know a guy that's messed
  499. 21:37up his life for 40 years you have to say
  500. 21:39John would you spend a day with
  501. 21:41me and I will bring my notebook and take
  502. 21:45good notes a good-look guy like you
  503. 21:48beautiful family every reason to do well
  504. 21:50threw it all away teach me how for the
  505. 21:53last 40 years you messed it all
  506. 21:56up and he tells you and you take good
  507. 22:01notes learning from the negative side of
  508. 22:04someone's experience if somebody tells
  509. 22:06me these eggs are rotten I'm not going
  510. 22:08to make an omelet and try it right I'm
  511. 22:10just going to take their advice and
  512. 22:13their knowhow so learn number one from
  513. 22:16your own experiences learn number two
  514. 22:18from other people's experiences and my
  515. 22:20mentor taught me to always keep a
  516. 22:22journal here's what he said don't trust
  517. 22:25your memory if you want to live a
  518. 22:28Dynamic life multiplying your income
  519. 22:30multiplying your future be a good
  520. 22:33student if a good idea Comes Your Way
  521. 22:35write it down then ponder it then
  522. 22:38perhaps go do it okay
  523. 22:41now your philosophy comes from what you
  524. 22:44learn comes from what you know comes
  525. 22:46from other people's experiences three
  526. 22:49ways now to learn from other people
  527. 22:51here's number one learn from what you
  528. 22:53see one of the great watchwords of these
  529. 22:56early years of the 21st century pay pay
  530. 23:00attention if you just watch you can pick
  531. 23:02up Clues success leaves Clues and if
  532. 23:05you'll be a better
  533. 23:07Observer of the winners and the losers
  534. 23:10those that are doing well and those that
  535. 23:11are falling behind and just take mental
  536. 23:14notes and good notes and say I'm going
  537. 23:16to adjust what I'm doing based on what I
  538. 23:18see here's number two we learn so much
  539. 23:21from other people based on what we hear
  540. 23:24here's good advice on that be a
  541. 23:25selective listener
  542. 23:28listen to voices of value that have
  543. 23:31experience ideas reputation something
  544. 23:33valuable to
  545. 23:35share now here's number three read all
  546. 23:38the
  547. 23:40books now there's millions of books so
  548. 23:43you can't read all the books but make
  549. 23:45this note read all the books you need to
  550. 23:48read to make you as wealthy as you want
  551. 23:51to be as healthy as you want to be as
  552. 23:54prosperous as productive as unique a
  553. 23:56human being as you want to E to be read
  554. 23:59all of those books don't leave those
  555. 24:01books go
  556. 24:04unread my mentor got me started on my
  557. 24:06library when I was 25 I got one of the
  558. 24:08best if you saw my library you would be
  559. 24:13impressed I haven't read everything in
  560. 24:15it but I feel smarter just walking in it
  561. 24:17right my
  562. 24:19library I was smart enough to buy it all
  563. 24:22now I got to be smart enough to read it
  564. 24:25all now jot this down when you do read
  565. 24:27you have to sort through what you read
  566. 24:29and decide which is valuable to
  567. 24:32try that's part of the process of
  568. 24:35learning gathering information and
  569. 24:37sorting through it one the information
  570. 24:40that would apply to you and what you
  571. 24:42think would be valuable based on your
  572. 24:44current philosophical
  573. 24:47opinion so read all the
  574. 24:50books our lives are greatly affected by
  575. 24:53what we learn and what we
  576. 24:55know now here's number two of these very
  577. 24:57basic five things I want to share with
  578. 25:00you first your personal philosophy
  579. 25:02here's number two your
  580. 25:05attitude first we're affected by what we
  581. 25:08know when I talk to the kids in high
  582. 25:10school classes college classes that's
  583. 25:12the first thing I tell them get the
  584. 25:13information while you're here right
  585. 25:15nothing worse than being stupid when you
  586. 25:16get out of school so get the information
  587. 25:19being broke is bad
  588. 25:21but being stupid is what's really bad
  589. 25:25and what's really really bad is being
  590. 25:27broke and stupid
  591. 25:30nothing much worse than that unless
  592. 25:31you're
  593. 25:32sick right sick brok and stupid that's
  594. 25:37about as far as you can fall unless
  595. 25:38you're ugly
  596. 25:40right but surely that would be the
  597. 25:42ultimate right the ultimate negative
  598. 25:44life ugly sick broke and
  599. 25:48stupid so learn all you can we're life
  600. 25:51we're affected by what we know so get
  601. 25:53the information don't be lazy in
  602. 25:55learning don't be lazy in going through
  603. 25:57the books building your Library coming
  604. 25:58to classes like this consistently
  605. 26:00consistently some of them will be so
  606. 26:02dramatic your life will never be the
  607. 26:04same maybe this is one of those
  608. 26:06today next we're affected by how we feel
  609. 26:10attitude this is the emotional part we
  610. 26:13need the intellectual part to set sail
  611. 26:16so as the winds blow we can still get
  612. 26:18where we want to
  613. 26:19go redefine keep strengthening our
  614. 26:23psychological and philosophical guidance
  615. 26:26system but now we're also affected by
  616. 26:28the emotions that's the power and jot
  617. 26:31these notes down as I hurry along now
  618. 26:33four things to consider on attitude and
  619. 26:36how you feel here's number one it's how
  620. 26:39you feel about the
  621. 26:41past it's important to make the past
  622. 26:44useful past experience even past losses
  623. 26:48past failures as well as
  624. 26:50successes to review it and go back over
  625. 26:53it see where you went wrong correct that
  626. 26:55invest that now in the future don't live
  627. 26:58in the past and don't carry the past
  628. 27:01around like a burden but simply use your
  629. 27:04past as one of your
  630. 27:06mentors to help refine mistakes make
  631. 27:09some changes that you can invest now in
  632. 27:11the
  633. 27:12future here's the second attitude it's
  634. 27:15how you feel about the
  635. 27:17future we look back for
  636. 27:20experience but number two we look
  637. 27:23forward for
  638. 27:25inspiration now where does the
  639. 27:27inspiration come from looking forward
  640. 27:28here it is learning to set goals number
  641. 27:31one decide what you want takes more than
  642. 27:35five minutes take some time and decide
  643. 27:37what you want where do you want to go
  644. 27:39what do you want to do the next 10 years
  645. 27:4120 years what would you like to become
  646. 27:43how many skills would you like to learn
  647. 27:45what are the books you want to read how
  648. 27:47about the people you want to meet the
  649. 27:48cities you want to visit experiences
  650. 27:50you'd like to have over this next period
  651. 27:53of Time start thinking about all of that
  652. 27:56here's the next key write it all then
  653. 27:59building a life is like building a house
  654. 28:02you wouldn't start building the house
  655. 28:04until you had it
  656. 28:06finished wouldn't you look foolish
  657. 28:09starting to build the house if it wasn't
  658. 28:11finished
  659. 28:12first what if you were laying bricks and
  660. 28:14somebody came by and said what are you
  661. 28:16building here and you said I have no
  662. 28:18idea see they would take you away to a
  663. 28:20safe
  664. 28:22place so building a life is a lot more
  665. 28:25important than building a house and yet
  666. 28:27people trade it treat it so carelessly
  667. 28:29and so casually about planning and
  668. 28:32making plans for what they want their
  669. 28:34life to work out to be so I'm asking you
  670. 28:37not to be casual anymore start designing
  671. 28:39the future for yourself for your family
  672. 28:41for your business for your future okay
  673. 28:44decide what you want okay so from the
  674. 28:47past we get experience from the future
  675. 28:49we get
  676. 28:51excitement inspiration by setting
  677. 28:54goals now here's the next advice put
  678. 28:57everything on your list of goals little
  679. 28:59things insignificant to someone else but
  680. 29:01important to you a goal list is
  681. 29:03important you don't have to publish it
  682. 29:04in the local newspaper my Japanese
  683. 29:08friend Toro eada San Jose California put
  684. 29:11on his first list a Caucasian Gardener I
  685. 29:15said
  686. 29:17gotoro back then everybody had a
  687. 29:19Japanese Gardener he said no I'm
  688. 29:21Japanese I want a Caucasian gardeners I
  689. 29:23like that so set goals set the goals
  690. 29:28goals that'll turn you on goals that'll
  691. 29:29get you excited put everything on your
  692. 29:33list now here's the next attitude it's
  693. 29:37very important how you feel about
  694. 29:39everybody if you want to be a leader
  695. 29:42extraordinaire here's what you learn
  696. 29:44each of us need all of
  697. 29:46us one person doesn't make an economy
  698. 29:49one person doesn't make a symphony
  699. 29:51orchestra it takes all of us for each of
  700. 29:54us to be
  701. 29:56successful each of us need all of us us
  702. 29:58and all of us need each of us each gift
  703. 30:01is
  704. 30:02important as we bring it to the table as
  705. 30:05we bring it to the country as we bring
  706. 30:07it to the community learn to appreciate
  707. 30:09that each of us need all of us now
  708. 30:12here's the last one on attitude it's how
  709. 30:14you feel about yourself nothing more
  710. 30:17powerful than self-confidence to start
  711. 30:19multiplying your income by two by three
  712. 30:20by five by 10 and where does that come
  713. 30:23from make the note it comes from
  714. 30:26self-esteem doing the things you know
  715. 30:28you should do and at the end of the day
  716. 30:30your self-esteem is soaring and high
  717. 30:34you've met the people you said you'd
  718. 30:35meet you made the calls you said you
  719. 30:37would make you did the things that you
  720. 30:40required of yourself to do and at the
  721. 30:42end of the day you feel great about
  722. 30:45yourself that is one of the greatest
  723. 30:47motivating factors for the future
  724. 30:49self-esteem feeling good about yourself
  725. 30:53now let me give you the miracle piece of
  726. 30:54this formula if you're ready say I'm
  727. 30:56ready
  728. 30:58here it is number three is
  729. 31:01activity we're affected by what we
  730. 31:05do now we've gotten to the formula of
  731. 31:08how to turn ideas into reality how to
  732. 31:11turn imagination into
  733. 31:13substance it's called number three
  734. 31:16activity so add these notes to it now
  735. 31:18activity is the
  736. 31:21work activity is the
  737. 31:26labor you might add had labor
  738. 31:31pains I'm short on personal experience
  739. 31:33here but the mothers in the room would
  740. 31:35tell us we know what that's all about
  741. 31:36labor pains why would an upcoming
  742. 31:39potential mother be willing to put
  743. 31:41herself through maybe a rather painful
  744. 31:42experience she said that's an easy
  745. 31:45answer and it's for your notes it
  746. 31:47produces New
  747. 31:50Life why wouldn't she put herself to the
  748. 31:54labor now comes the miracle of New Life
  749. 31:58and whether it's new career life or new
  750. 32:00business life or new friendship life or
  751. 32:02new married life or New Life of any kind
  752. 32:05it has to come from the work it comes
  753. 32:07from the
  754. 32:09labor in fact labor was so important
  755. 32:12here was the original formula for labor
  756. 32:14if you have forgotten it remind yourself
  757. 32:17for your notes six days of Labor and
  758. 32:22what one day of rest now it's important
  759. 32:26not to get those numbers mixed up why is
  760. 32:30that here's
  761. 32:32why why not 52 I don't know maybe five
  762. 32:34and two would be okay if God would have
  763. 32:36thought of five and two he might have
  764. 32:37made it five- two but you can't think of
  765. 32:39everything when you're putting one of
  766. 32:40these
  767. 32:43together but maybe one of the reasons
  768. 32:45for 61 jot this down now if you rest too
  769. 32:49long the weeds take the
  770. 32:52garden not to think so is
  771. 32:55naive as soon as you've planted
  772. 32:58the busy bugs and the noxious weeds are
  773. 33:00out to take it so you can't linger too
  774. 33:02long in the rest mode you got to go back
  775. 33:05to work six days of work then rest and
  776. 33:09spirituality and friendship and change
  777. 33:11of
  778. 33:12pace and then go back over the last six
  779. 33:15days what did I do what did I miss who
  780. 33:17did I miss what happened so that I can
  781. 33:19invest those Corrections in the next six
  782. 33:20days of higher productivity have you got
  783. 33:23that now six days of work one day of
  784. 33:27rest don't get the numbers mixed up
  785. 33:30activity Now activity finishes the
  786. 33:35miracle good question for your notes how
  787. 33:37did this convention center get
  788. 33:42here let me give you the steps number
  789. 33:44one somebody saw it while the property
  790. 33:49was
  791. 33:50vacant you say well how could you see a
  792. 33:52Convention Center if it isn't here it's
  793. 33:54the only way it will be here and
  794. 33:57somebody has to it so clearly they can
  795. 33:58draw a picture of it saying this is the
  796. 34:02convention center you say no it isn't
  797. 34:05there they say yes this is the
  798. 34:07convention
  799. 34:09center the artist rendering shows you a
  800. 34:12picture of what isn't there that's the
  801. 34:15beginning of imagination so to turn
  802. 34:17nothing into something here's what you
  803. 34:18do imagine the
  804. 34:20possibilities that's why we recommend
  805. 34:22testimonials for someone to say hey I
  806. 34:24started with pennies and I made a
  807. 34:26fortune and when they finished sometimes
  808. 34:28they say something like this if I can do
  809. 34:29it what you can do it and we start
  810. 34:32Imagining the possibilities here's
  811. 34:34number two have faith to believe that
  812. 34:36some of them are possible for
  813. 34:39you and both imagination and Faith are
  814. 34:42powerful forces but we still don't have
  815. 34:45a hotel we still don't have a
  816. 34:49house even though those are powerful
  817. 34:52forces it is the beginning now
  818. 34:54imagination and Faith must be deposited
  819. 34:57in inactivity or it is
  820. 35:02wasted but the Finishing Touch of the
  821. 35:04miracle process is now go to
  822. 35:08work go to work and build a better
  823. 35:10career go to work and build good health
  824. 35:13you can't have good health without the
  825. 35:15work when did we start hearing that
  826. 35:16phrase no pain what no gain you got to
  827. 35:19do the work you can read all the books
  828. 35:22until you're wise you can have faith and
  829. 35:24believe until it is extraordinary but
  830. 35:27now you must
  831. 35:28go to work and if you'll learn to
  832. 35:31appreciate the work that produces the
  833. 35:33miracle of good health the miracle of a
  834. 35:36career the miracle of a relationship the
  835. 35:38miracle of a fortune only humans Now can
  836. 35:41do
  837. 35:42this the birds of the field can't do it
  838. 35:45no other life form can imagine and
  839. 35:47create something from
  840. 35:50nothing have faith and then build it and
  841. 35:52make it real only
  842. 35:55humans it's an extraordinary gift
  843. 35:57depends on how often you use
  844. 35:59it so number one of the ideas I wanted
  845. 36:02to share with you to make this an
  846. 36:03extraordinary opening year Century for
  847. 36:06you is philosophy we're affected by what
  848. 36:08we know second is attitude we're
  849. 36:10affected by how we feel third is
  850. 36:12activity we're affected by what we do
  851. 36:14now here's the final two
  852. 36:17pieces number four learn to measure
  853. 36:21progress once you've set up a project
  854. 36:24now you want to turn nothing into
  855. 36:25something now you must measure your PR
  856. 36:27press how are you
  857. 36:31doing here's how we teach it to our
  858. 36:33children life expects us to make
  859. 36:35measurable progress in reasonable
  860. 36:39time measurable progress in reasonable
  861. 36:42time that is The Game of Life so part of
  862. 36:46it is not just to set up the proposed
  863. 36:49project but as we start working on it we
  864. 36:52start measuring how we're
  865. 36:54doing now first what is reasonable time
  866. 36:58you can't ask someone every five minutes
  867. 37:00how are you doing now see that's too
  868. 37:03soon guy says I haven't left the
  869. 37:05building yet give me a break now we
  870. 37:07can't wait 5 years that's too
  871. 37:11long so there's reasonable time so make
  872. 37:13this note now what is reasonable time
  873. 37:15one at the end of the
  874. 37:17day a conversation a father should have
  875. 37:20with his daughter today because the
  876. 37:21magic is there if he waits till tomorrow
  877. 37:23the magic may be
  878. 37:25gone today next is a week make that
  879. 37:31note usually we get paid by the
  880. 37:35week somebody adds up our value to the
  881. 37:37marketplace out comes the check the next
  882. 37:40week somebody adds up our value to the
  883. 37:42marketplace out comes the
  884. 37:44check what I learned to do is to change
  885. 37:46my value to the marketplace so the check
  886. 37:48kept getting bigger and bigger and
  887. 37:50bigger I didn't have to change the
  888. 37:52economy I only had to change
  889. 37:55myself measure your your own
  890. 37:59progress success is a numbers
  891. 38:05game we demanded of our children how
  892. 38:08many years do you want your child to
  893. 38:09spend in fourth grade
  894. 38:12approximately about one year right you
  895. 38:14say well if they're nice kids would you
  896. 38:16give them three or four years you say no
  897. 38:19this is not a nice game this is getting
  898. 38:22ready for the future this is getting
  899. 38:24ready for the challenges and the
  900. 38:25opportunities you can't linger in one
  901. 38:28grade more than one
  902. 38:30year now make this note the same should
  903. 38:33go for us as
  904. 38:35adults don't linger more than one year
  905. 38:38in one grade of
  906. 38:40learning adult management
  907. 38:44entrepreneurship leaderships of all
  908. 38:47kind keep up the pace of
  909. 38:50learning okay the
  910. 38:54numbers measure count
  911. 38:58now here's the key face the truth if
  912. 39:01you're only making this much progress
  913. 39:03you know there's no use trying to kid
  914. 39:05the world no you're trying to kid
  915. 39:06anybody else and especially don't kid
  916. 39:09yourself if in a period of time you've
  917. 39:11only made so much progress you just got
  918. 39:13to swallow hard and say this is the
  919. 39:18truth I've got to face it now what could
  920. 39:20I do to start increasing my progress and
  921. 39:24make my health better make my income
  922. 39:26better make my investments better make
  923. 39:29my value to the marketplace much better
  924. 39:32get busy learning the second skill and
  925. 39:34the third skill and the next language
  926. 39:37and the next language to increase my
  927. 39:39value I got to get busy and do that see
  928. 39:41if you will do that I promise you one of
  929. 39:44the greatest motivating factors in the
  930. 39:46world is
  931. 39:49progress and if you'll measure it you'll
  932. 39:51get
  933. 39:54excited now here's number five of the
  934. 39:56five major things I wanted to share with
  935. 39:58you to make these opening years of the
  936. 40:0121st century really pay off for
  937. 40:05you and here's the word
  938. 40:09lifestyle learning to live well because
  939. 40:12the ultimate essence of life is not a
  940. 40:14Ferrari the ultimate Essence Is Not a
  941. 40:16Home the ultimate Essence is not a bank
  942. 40:18account it's not a million dollars it's
  943. 40:21not a fortune here it is the ultimate
  944. 40:24essence of life is learning to live a
  945. 40:28good life that's the key whether you
  946. 40:32have modest resources or whether you
  947. 40:35have Mega Millions either way the real
  948. 40:39key is learning to live a good
  949. 40:42life and so in my closing five minutes
  950. 40:44let me give you what I think is a good
  951. 40:47list now this is the short list in other
  952. 40:49presentations I cover a longer list but
  953. 40:50this is called Jim Ron's short list for
  954. 40:54living the good life here it is number
  955. 40:58one
  956. 40:59productivity you really won't be that
  957. 41:02happy if you don't produce and here's
  958. 41:04the next bit of advice on that produce
  959. 41:07to the
  960. 41:08max if you possibly can to produce a
  961. 41:11little is okay to produce enough is okay
  962. 41:15to produce some to get by is all right
  963. 41:18but why not try productivity to the
  964. 41:24max Andrew Carnegie who built the steel
  965. 41:28industry back in the 30s here's what
  966. 41:29Andrew
  967. 41:30said I'm going to spend the first half
  968. 41:33of my life accumulating money I'm going
  969. 41:35to spend the last half of my life giving
  970. 41:38it all
  971. 41:43away he got so inspired by that goal
  972. 41:47that the first half of his life he
  973. 41:49accumulated 400 million doll which back
  974. 41:53in the 30s was a lot of money
  975. 41:57a mega Fortune guess what he did the
  976. 42:01last half of his
  977. 42:02life he gave it
  978. 42:05all
  979. 42:08away I got a good question for for you
  980. 42:11as we close here's the question what's
  981. 42:14got you turned
  982. 42:16on what's got you up early what's got
  983. 42:21you eager to face the
  984. 42:23day what's got you inspired
  985. 42:28to learn the extra skill put in the
  986. 42:29extra time go the extra mile learn how
  987. 42:33to work with people guarantee your
  988. 42:35future good question here's number two
  989. 42:38good friends you got to have good
  990. 42:41friends the best support system in the
  991. 42:43world is good
  992. 42:45friends collect and nourish those as
  993. 42:50Priceless good friends are those
  994. 42:52wonderful people who know all about you
  995. 42:54and still like
  996. 42:56you those are good
  997. 42:58friends here's number three your
  998. 43:02heritage what's made America so unique
  999. 43:04among all the nations of the world and
1000. 43:06the greatest experiment in the history
  1001. 43:09of the
1002. 43:10world and that is the depository of
1003. 43:13gifts that have come to America over the
  1004. 43:15last 3 or 400
1005. 43:17years the Heritage from all walks of
1006. 43:20life all over the world now the key to
1007. 43:23keeping America vital and powerful and
1008. 43:25unique for Generations to come is to
1009. 43:27keep alive these heritages the music the
1010. 43:31dance the costume the Customs the
1011. 43:33literature the poetry and all the rest
1012. 43:36combin together making us an
  1013. 43:38extraordinary unusual Nation among
  1014. 43:41nations keep your heritage
  1015. 43:44alive here's number four your
1016. 43:50spirituality whatever you believe in
  1017. 43:52terms of
  1018. 43:55spirituality that's important and I've
1019. 43:57got three words for you to consider here
  1020. 43:58they
1021. 43:59are study practice and teach whatever
1022. 44:02you believe in terms of spirituality
  1023. 44:05study practice and
  1024. 44:07teach don't leave your spirituality
  1025. 44:09unstudied don't leave it unpracticed and
  1026. 44:11don't leave it
  1027. 44:13untaught it's one of the major
  1028. 44:15components of a good
1029. 44:17life and now to close for your notes
1030. 44:22take special care of the Inner
  1031. 44:25Circle family close
1032. 44:28friends nourish them they will nourish
1033. 44:30you inspire them they will inspire
1034. 44:34you and take care of the details the
1035. 44:37little things that makes it special for
  1036. 44:39family and
1037. 44:41friends when my father was still alive
1038. 44:44after my mother died my father lived
  1039. 44:45about another 7even eight
1040. 44:48years when I used to travel I would try
1041. 44:51to call him while he was having
1042. 44:52breakfast with the farmers Southwest
1043. 44:55Idaho make his special day if I'm in
1044. 44:57Israel I got to get up in the middle of
1045. 44:59the night but I call in the middle of
1046. 45:00the night Papa I'm in Israel and they
1047. 45:02would bring him the phone in this little
  1048. 45:04cafe called the decoy
1049. 45:06in and papa would say Israel son how are
1050. 45:09things in Israel and he'd talk real loud
1051. 45:11so everybody could hear right say papa
1052. 45:14they gave me a reception last night on
  1053. 45:15the rooftop overlooking the
1054. 45:17Mediterranean he say overlooking the
  1055. 45:21Mediterranean now he's got a story to
1056. 45:23tell for the rest of the day my son
1057. 45:25called me this morning while I was was
1058. 45:27having breakfast with the farmers I know
1059. 45:29he had to get up in the middle of the
  1060. 45:31night special
1061. 45:33days one more Scene I thought about my
1062. 45:37father walking down the lane on the farm
1063. 45:39to the mailbox opening it up and this is
  1064. 45:42for your
1065. 45:43notes make sure the mailbox is not
1066. 45:48empty my father lived to be
1067. 45:5193 what kind of an experience would that
1068. 45:53be for a day age 93 open the mailbox and
  1069. 45:57it's empty even if it's just a
1070. 46:02postcard make sure the mailbox is not
1071. 46:07empty the details the Inner
1072. 46:11Circle and now here's the last maybe
1073. 46:13just maybe some of the things I've
1074. 46:14shared with you have been seeds that
1075. 46:17have fallen on your Consciousness at the
1076. 46:19right time and then if it turns into
1077. 46:22something valuable for you in the future
1078. 46:24that will be well worth my coming being
