0:56reason I have that there is um it's more
0:59of a fail that if something was to
1:01happen to the video system in recording
1:02that I have another it may not be a
1:04video but I have a digital AUD recording
1:06of what we're we're going to speak to
1:08speak
1:09about um we're again we're at five
1:11district I want to go through a form
1:13with you it may seem kind of you know
1:15why you're doing this but um this is a
1:19it's it's like you're you're swearing to
1:21tell the truth about what you're going
1:23to talk to me about and it's also going
1:25to explain to you the um the penalties
1:28for not telling the truth
1:30I don't expect you uh to help me but for
1:34a homicide investigation anyone who's
1:37very close to the investigation we do
1:40this with Okay so this isn't suspecting
1:43that you're not going to tell the truth
1:45this is more of a feature that you
1:47understand the importance of telling the
1:49complete truth okay much as I can
1:51remember that's all I ask for but so
1:54this form please don't take it personal
1:58okay but it's something we go through

2:48and digitally audio recorded
2:53yes I would like um I ask you to
2:56introduce yourself which you already
2:57have and that you consent to this uh
3:00tape uh being made uh my name is Randy
3:03Slade I introduce myself to you at the
3:05hospital my badge number is 531 and I'm
3:07a member of the York Regional Police
3:09homicide unit uh monitoring this
3:12statement right right here in the next
3:14room okay is uh Trevor berer his badge
3:17number is
3:181446 as I indicated when this tape
3:21started that it today is Tuesday the 9th
3:23day of November
3:252010 and the time when I started was
3:28244 in the morning we're presently at
3:31five district in the town of Markham in
3:33the regional Municipality of York um is
3:36there anything uh is there anything I
3:38need to know in order to understand your
3:40statement and that means is you you
3:42suffer from any physical or mental
3:44condition use of alcohol drugs or
3:46anything of any concerns that would
3:47influence your ability to give me a
3:50statement
3:54no um we are investigating a
3:58murder okay and you're aware of who it
4:01is it's um the murder of your mom and uh
4:05can you can you tell me where your mom's
4:06name
4:07is my mother's name is bcka pan Biga pan
4:12as a part of our investigation into the
4:14offense I would like to interview on
4:16videotape and under oath or solemn
4:18affirmation or solemn doc uh declaration
4:22it is my obligation to advise you of
4:24certain information before we commence
4:26this statement you may be a witness in
4:29the court concerning the events you're
4:30about to describe in your statement if
4:32at any time you change your statement or
4:35claim not to remember the events the
4:36content of this video statement you now
4:38give may be used as evidence in court do
4:41you understand yes I
4:45do I'm going to get you some kleenex in
4:47a second
4:49okay you you have nothing to apologize
4:53to me for Jennifer
4:55I I uh I it's going to be tough but you
4:59know the importance of this statement
5:01okay but don't you have nothing to
5:03apologize to me about I'm here to help

5:07okay um it is also my obligation to
5:10advise you that fabricating evidence
5:12this stuff is the penalties for lying as
5:14I explained to you earlier fabricating
5:16evidence with the intent to mislead is
5:17an offense under section 137 of the
5:19criminal code if you give a false
5:22statement under oath you may be charged
5:23with fabricating evidence if convicted
5:25of fabricating fabricating evidence you
5:28may be sentenced up to 14 years in jail
5:31it is also an offense under section 139
5:33of the criminal code to obstruct by
5:35willfully attempting to obstruct pervert
5:36or defeat the course of Justice you may
5:39be charged if you obstruct jce obstruct
5:42Justice if convicted of obstructing
5:44justice you could be sentenced up to 10
5:46years in jail it is also an offense
5:49under section 140 of the criminal code
5:50to commit public Mischief by causing a
5:53police officer to start or continue an
5:55investigation by making a false
5:56statement that accuses some other person
5:58of committing an offense
6:00and you may be charged if you commit
6:01public Mischief if convicted of public
6:04Mischief you could be sentenced up to 5
6:06years if you are charged with one or
6:07more of these offenses this statement
6:09may be used in court against you do you
6:12understand the criminal sanctions of
6:13what I have explained to you
6:16yes do you understand the criminal
6:18consequences of making a false statement
6:21yes do you understand that it is your
6:24choice whether or not to give a
6:26statement yes
6:30do you understand the importance of
6:32telling the truth yes I do with respect
6:34to this
6:37investigation if you have spoken to any
6:40police officer or person in Authority in
6:41connection with investigation I want it

7:00what I've just explained to you
7:02is you're here voluntarily to help us
7:07that you don't have to talk to us if you
7:09don't want to but the importance of
7:10talking to us and if you're talking to
7:12us the importance of telling the truth
7:14and if you don't tell the truth there's
7:15criminal consequences for not telling
7:17the truth that's all that all that stuff
7:20had to deal with okay okay you can't
7:23point the finger at someone else you
7:24can't tell us to go off in a different
7:26direction you just got to tell us the
7:27truth know exactly exactly exactly and
7:31do you have any questions with respect
7:32to what I've just told you it's just
7:35like sitting sometimes like Parts come

7:39no one is and that's the process this is
7:41going to be a long process this is an

10:12evidence you shall give on this
10:13investigation shall be the truth the
10:15whole truth and nothing but the truth so

11:16just that's
11:17the the administrative process about
11:21this now I want you to sort of take
11:24yourself back to earlier on today uh
11:27yesterday meaning the the of
11:30November and uh tell me about your day
11:33okay start at any point in time where
11:36wherever you feel comfortable and then
11:39we're going to move we're going to move
11:40forward
11:42okay
11:44um yesterday probably around 9 o' in the
11:48morning 9
11:50:30 um my mother she woke me up and she
11:54told me that she was going to go to
11:56visit my grandfather who was ill
12:00and that she was going to go over pick
12:01up my aunt to go um once we stepped out
12:05of the house there were a few police
12:08officers blocking barricading the
12:11driveway and so she called me down and
12:13when I came down the officers just said
12:15that there was like a gas leak in the
12:17area and there were just as precaution
12:20evacuating and before we could walk over
12:23to a safer place they said that um the
12:27evacuation had been moved to somewhere
12:28else that it was safe to go back
12:31home with that my mom decided for me to
12:34stay home uh and because I have some
12:38piano history stuff that I'm working on
12:41so I was doing that on the computer
12:43played a little
12:45piano I had to forget what time my mom
12:47com came home probably around like 3
12:513:30 um my father came home later than
12:54usual he said that he had forgot to lock
12:58a toolbox and had to turn back but I'm
13:01not exactly sure he just was home later
13:04than usual okay um once he came home he
13:08um phoned up my uncle and asked him to
13:11go to buy USB pen I think just to go
13:15shopping with him because my my uncle
13:17doesn't
13:18drive uh they left so my mom had
13:21prepared dinner cuz she was heading to
13:23go dancing that night the line dancing
13:25she does it every Monday and so her and
13:28I sat down for dinner
13:29first and then um after my father came
13:32home he did that and then a friend of
13:34mine came over we do TV night every
13:37every so
13:39often so um my dad I guess went up on
13:41the computer as he always does and I was
13:44downstairs with my friend watching
13:45movies and then my mom was out uh
13:48dancing um my friend left around 9 I
13:52[Music]
13:56believe and then my I upstairs in my
14:00room called it a night with the TV on um
14:04talking on the phone with a friend of
14:06mine and then uh shortly after my mom
14:10came home I believe that was around 9:30
14:13or so she was rumaging down downstairs I
14:15didn't think anything of
14:18it and
14:20then suddenly I just heard my mom
14:23calling for my dad to come down and
14:25that's when I lowered the volume on my
14:27TV and I could hear the voices weren't
14:31any voices I was very familiar
14:34with and so I was scared and I couldn't
14:38move I just sat in my room for a
14:41while and then I thought I heard them
14:44all let like leave the top floor and I
14:46peered out of my bedroom door and a guy
14:49was there and he came at me and had
14:51string in his hands and tied my arms
14:54back and said I have a gun behind your
14:55back do what I say if you do what I say
14:58then no one will get hurt where is the
15:00money show me where your money
15:10is I um I have still a few a bit of
15:15money put aside from when I was
15:16waitressing
15:18cash so I showed him where it was and he
15:21took it and put it in his pocket I
15:23think and
15:26then that's where they they pushed me to
15:29my parents'
15:30room and asked me where the money was
15:32there and I didn't really know so they
15:36kind of like one was right beside me
15:38blocking my way to the door while the
15:40other ones turned over the
15:42bed to find some more cash in my mom's
15:45bedside
15:46[Music]
15:51table in which then they dragged me down
15:53the
15:54stairs and made me kneel at the bottom
15:57telling me to face down on the floor or
15:59while the other guy had a gun behind my
16:01head and asked my mom where her purse
16:06was my mom kept trying to get up and
16:09they kept telling her sit down and so I
16:12didn't want her to get hurt I told her
16:13mom sit
16:15down they were trying to find her wallet
16:17but she her English isn't good so she
16:19kept saying first they kept pushing her
16:22down onto the
16:24chair
16:26okay take your time take your take your
16:29time all this is very important so take
16:32your
16:35time they kept all the lights off on the
16:39main
16:40floor the only time there was
16:43light was when they opened the fridge
16:45door to see if they could find where my
16:47mom's purse
16:49was I didn't at that point I saw three
16:53figures of
16:56men one with a hoodie the one I could
16:59see the most clearly he had a hoodie on
17:01and I believe he
17:03had a bandana of some sort covering from
17:08like his lower under his eyes
17:14down and then for some reason I think
17:17one of the the gentlemen asked my father
17:19if he had money in his wallet and where
17:21his wallet was so they took me cuz I was
17:24next to the stairwell they took me up
17:26the stairs to show them where my
17:28father's wallet was but I'm I didn't
17:31know they had turned the room upside
17:32down I didn't know where his pants were
17:34at that
17:38time and then after they had gotten that
17:43they had taken me and they tied me to
17:45the top of the
17:46banister just with one string I could
17:49still move but I was afraid to because
17:52the one guy just had that gun just
18:00next thing I know oh I think I he my
18:02parents going down the stairs and my mom
18:04was asking them for me to come with
18:06them they wouldn't let me come with
18:11them and after they said the last things
18:14I heard them say
18:17was you lied you lied to us you lied to
18:23us then I heard two
18:27pops my mom screaming
18:30I yelled out for
18:32her and a couple more
18:41Pops take your time take your
18:50time and I think I heard my mom say or
18:53moan or something and then they did one
18:56more before they left and then one of
18:58the guys
18:59said we have to go now it's been too
19:03long and then they ran out the door and
19:06I think once they were out the
19:09door I heard my dad go up the stairs and
19:12at that point I had my phone in my in my
19:16on me behind me that I had hidden there
19:19that they didn't know about so when I
19:23when I when they when I thought that
19:25they had heard them all leave and my Dad
19:26ran up the stairs I whipped up the phone
19:28and I called called
19:30911 but I I still hadn't heard anything
19:33from my mom and all I could hear was my
19:34dad running on the street
19:36just moaning and making
19:48sounds and that's pretty
19:51much what I so what happens continue on
19:55from from now to the point that the
19:58police are wife I was just on the phone
20:01with the secretary or the operator I
20:04begged her not to leave me alone and
20:06then my dad was outside I was yelling to
20:09him but he wouldn't come in I don't know
20:11if he didn't hear me he didn't come in I
20:13think he went to look for
20:16help and I didn't get to see my dad at
20:18all until before I left the hospital
20:21just now how did you get
20:24free the cop came and he snipped the TU
20:29the two strings off for me I was I was
20:32asking them for so long
20:35and and they said they couldn't untie me
20:38until they knew how to properly untie
20:41the string Okay so we've gone through
20:46we've gone through a very tough portion
20:48and now we're so to going to go back
20:51clinically you know try and I want you
20:54to put yourself now as a as a figure
20:56looking down at what you see
20:59okay um so you go back you're up in your
21:03room at
21:059:30 correct like 9 9:30 you're you're
21:09on the phone who are you on the phone
21:10with with a friend of mine an old
21:12coworker an old coworker are you on the
21:14phone with that person when you hear
21:17these voices that you don't recognize
21:19yes and um do you remain on the phone
21:24with this person or when does that
21:25conversation end it ended when I heard
21:27my mother asking my father to come down
21:30the stairs and normally they um they
21:34they don't get a they don't communicate
21:37very well sometimes so what I did was I
21:40told my friend I'll call you back and I
21:42hung up stuck the phone in the back
21:44pocket and started to go up the door and
21:48that's when I noticed that there were
21:50men running around okay so let's back up
21:54again when you hear your mom com do you
21:57hear your mom in the house she was in
22:00the house I had gone down the stairs did
22:02you hear so before this this is when
22:06when did you hear your mom for the first
22:07time in the house when she came home and
22:10what time was that
22:159:5 is there a time period so and where
22:19is your father at that time he had he's
22:22just finishing on the computer I think
22:24and he was heading to bed so did you
22:27physically see your mom
22:29yes and at that time there was no one
22:32strange in the house no I went she was
22:34on the downstairs sofa she was watching
22:37TV when I last saw her okay where is the
22:43so between that time that you see her
22:46and you leave her on the sofa until you
22:48hear the noises the strange the voices
22:51as you describe them how long is that
22:54maybe a half hour a half an hour
23:01um where is it that your mom was before
23:03here she goes dancing every Monday at
23:11St I'd like to say St Paul but I'm not
23:16100% sure and where is St
23:20Paul's cuz I don't know she's moved
23:23locations from the last time she does
23:25lessons yeah um the last one I remember
23:28she said that there was one on Birch
23:30Mount and
23:34Finch yeah Birch mountain and Finch on
23:36the southwest corner a birch Mountain
23:40Finch yeah I know the area okay she used
23:45to dance there but I'm not 100% sure
23:48whether she moved to a
23:50different with somebody else she does
23:53dance she does goes dancing with a few
23:55relatives as well okay was she would she
23:59have been there with a few relatives
24:00tonight is that the normal
24:02thing on one night I forgot to ask
24:06normally U the normal is that she goes
24:09with one or two friends one from across
24:11the street and one relative just on the
24:14other side of uh the 407 what are their
24:18names
24:20um I
24:22call I only know their names by what I
24:25call them okay um I call one b
24:29and then um the other one is my
24:32cousin and her name is vong and the one
24:35who lives on your street what number the
24:38neighbor who lives on that she usually
24:40goes with uh across the street about two
24:44hous down I don't know the exact number
24:46unfortunately okay we'll find that out
24:49um and so she's been going there for how
24:52many how long she's been dancing
24:56for a long while a long time a long
25:00maybe more than a year okay
25:03um what does your mom do what what does
25:06she do for living she used to work for
25:08Magna okay but would do the job cut
25:15back sorry um due to the job cutback she
25:18was unemployed but could not find
25:19employment okay and so she's been at
25:22home looking for a job and recently I
25:25think her pension is done how long is
25:28how long how long has she been out of
25:29work with
25:33manga I'd say at least a year and a half
25:37okay and um what about your father what
25:40does he do for a living He also works
25:42for the car company U
25:46Co they just changed their names um
25:48something Coen coel
25:51andelle what does he do I he does he
25:55wears many hats from like assembly line
25:57worker but I I think his title is tool
26:00and die operator okay so
26:049:15 you see your mom down on the
26:06downstairs coach and you see your dad
26:09he's at the and where is the computer
26:11located comp upstairs right right beside
26:13his room right in a separate room beside
26:15his room okay and you're going to bed
26:18you're going up to your room to to watch
26:20TV and and tune turn down for the night
26:23yeah um and then approximately again how
26:26long later that you hear these voices
26:31my mom had to be home for
26:34maybe 20 minutes don't really have that
26:38window I think around like maybe
26:42940 9:40 okay estimates it's fine I'm
26:47not expecting to hold you down to times
26:48because we can probably get that from
26:51who you were speaking to right cuz how
26:53long after you end the conversation with
26:56the person does this do you hear the
26:58voice
26:59voices they're already in the house so
27:01you end the conversation because you
27:03hear the voices you'll call the person
27:05back I yeah because I heard my dad and
27:08then I heard some strange voices is when
27:10I was like I'll call you back and who
27:12was it that you were speaking to a
27:13coworker of mine and what's What's that
27:15name what Ed Ed Edward Edward you know
27:17Edward's last name Pacific Ador okay
27:21so what is it that you hear that causes
27:24your father to go downstairs my mother
27:26calling for him and what is he is she
27:29speaking in English or is she speaking
27:30in another language she was speaking in
27:31English which is which is why it also
27:33caught my attention what language does
27:35she normally speak uh at home we speak a
27:38mix of like Vietnamese is most fluent
27:41but we do throw some Chinese words here
27:43and there okay or English words here but
27:46the vast majority of it is Vietnamese
27:49Vietnamese what is the first when you
27:52hear the this can you hear them talking
27:54downstairs the unknown voices
27:58it's so Mumble because I had the TV on
28:00it was just all a Mumble when's the
28:02first time that you actually can hear
28:04one of them
28:07talking when he was upstairs and I
28:11thought he had left the upstairs cuz I
28:13was frozen in my room for a while yep
28:16trying to listen in but I couldn't hear
28:18over my TV and I didn't want to
28:22startle startle them by turning it off
28:24or like diminishing the volume so I was
28:27kind of pressed up against my door for a
28:29while trying to hear
28:31it and I thought that all the people
28:34upstairs had gone down so I opened up my
28:36door quietly and tried to peer out and
28:38he saw
28:39me and that's when he came can you did
28:43you have lights on in your room at that
28:44time my lights were off I only had the
28:46reflection off my TV which is lower to
28:49the door what do you see of this
28:51guy and I'm calling him a guy because
28:54you said you you thought they were all
28:55males I think they were all three males
28:57okay so tell me about this guy uh he
29:01was medium build okay I didn't I don't
29:06remember any of his clothing
29:08unfortunately the only thing I can
29:09remember with him was he had dreadlocks
29:12he had dreadlocks so are can you
29:14describe his race to me he was black did
29:17it was his head covered was his face
29:19covered do you remember anything about
29:21that just that his dredged blocks were
29:23like kind of like flopping all over the
29:26place I couldn't really see his face and
29:29they kept the lights dark as much
29:32as as much as possible how long how long
29:35were the dreadlocks was it were they you
29:37know like when you say they're
29:38dreadlocks and they were flopping all
29:39over his
29:41face it's hard I I don't remember
29:46100% I think some of them were like
29:48around his face were a little shorter
29:51mhm and then in the back there were
29:53there were longer ones okay now his
29:55complexion um there's various degrees of
29:59of of of dark to medium dark to to
30:03actually light uh I'd say he
30:05was he I wouldn't say he was the darkest
30:08person I've seen but he was on the
30:11darker side any facial
30:21hair I'd like to say
30:26maybe say only what you
30:28just just say what you what you think I
30:30don't want you to say what you're but I
30:32don't want to say something wrong
30:33exactly so if you don't know then it's
30:35okay to say it's okay to say that okay
30:39so can you give an age approximation for
30:41this
30:45guy when I when the other officer asked
30:48me I was leaning along the ages of
30:5228 to 33 so an and someone who's
30:57established in life
30:59I would assume so like not establish
31:01meaning world meaning that he's been
31:02around the been around so a 20-year-old
31:06talks completely different than a
31:0730-year-old as you know he seemed to be
31:10the one in charge he seemed to be
31:12running the show he's the one that had
31:15me like he pretty much did not let me go
31:19he was in charge of me and all the money
31:22I showed him he pocket it okay did he
31:25have a gun yes did you see the gun I
31:28only saw the top part of a gun what did
31:30it look
31:31like um kind of was black yeah and it
31:38kind of not triangular but it was
31:40slightly wider at the end than it
31:44was closer do you know the difference
31:47between what a pistol and a revolver is
31:50yes okay do you know if it was a pistol
31:53or a re revolver that particular one
31:56that he was holding I believe should
31:58have been a pistol a pistol okay cuz the
32:01difference is the the round part right
32:03so you tell me what's a pistol and
32:04what's a revolver which one has the
32:06round part I would think that the
32:07revolver has the the ones that the
32:09bullets go around okay and it didn't
32:12look like that it looked like more like
32:14a handgun so it looked more like a
32:16pistol yes what you're saying not a
32:18revolver no the other gentleman though
32:20we'll go we'll go to the other gentleman
32:22we'll go this in stages so that we're
32:23not dealing with we'll call this guy
32:25number one because you're saying that he
32:28seemed to be running the show as is you
32:29running he was in control from my
32:32perspective yes he was in control of you
32:34yes is this the gentleman is this the
32:36guy who tied you up yes okay I want you
32:40to my he he was the one that tied my
32:42wrist together he wasn't the one that
32:44tied me to the banister okay so where
32:46did he get the shoelaces or whatever the
32:49laces were or whatever it was that tied
32:50you up I'm not sure it might have been
32:52from my mother's room or the study room
32:55or cuz my mom has a sewing table next to
32:57to her bed bed so when you open the door
33:00where is this
33:02guy he was just stepping out of my
33:05brother's well what formula would be my
33:08brother's room so he's already on the
33:10upstairs yeah do you know where the
33:12other guys involved in thisr I know one
33:16stayed with my parents downstairs okay
33:19um the other
33:20one I'm not at that point in time I was
33:24more focused on him like he was seeing
33:28me and he was coming after me so you're
33:30saying there's three for sure yeah
33:32that's all you saw a total of three at
33:34one time you saw three people together
33:36yes when I went downstairs I saw three
33:38shadows okay
33:40so um this number one guy and we're call
33:43him number one because he was he was the
33:45one who tied you up and he's the first
33:47one that you actually are confronted by
33:50um and he comes out of your brother's
33:51room what was formerly your brother's
33:53room and he comes into you comes into
33:56your room and what happens in there he
33:58tells me to sit down and and he shows me
34:01his gun so it's not pointing at you but
34:03you see it and where is it it's like in
34:06a holster almost
34:09okay and then he showed it to me and
34:12he's like don't
34:14move and then someone else brought him
34:16the
34:17shoelace okay can you describe the other
34:19person who brings the shoelace I would
34:22he was the second person and the only
34:24other person that I encountered with
34:26okay um I only saw the Third guy by he
34:28didn't encounter with me at all okay uh
34:32he had a hood he had a hoodie and uh
34:35like a bandan over his face yeah he's
34:40his complexion then it was really dark
34:43but I could tell that he was darker
34:45than the first guy so he's a male black
34:48as well but thinner build but thinner
34:51build so we got a medium build thin
34:53build and what about the height where
34:54you know like where are we in height
34:56scales how tall are you 5' seven so
34:59where are they in comparison to
35:17you I'd say one was pretty much right
35:20around my height level and which guy is
35:22that the um the medium build the first
35:25guy first guy you encounter who show
35:27show you the gun yeah and tie eventually
35:29ties your wrist together he's he's about
35:32your height so he's somewhere in the
35:34area five six to 58 56 to seven seven
35:38I'd say okay and the other guy I'd say
35:40around
35:4358 maybe smidget higher lower an eight
35:45so he's taller than you but not much not
35:47much okay now the first guy who spoke to
35:50you what kind of did he have any
35:53accent I could make out was it clear
35:55English English un broken unbroken no
36:00accent from the terms he used I didn't
36:02get to pick up an accent no he Ed short
36:04phrases he sounded can he sounded
36:07Canadian I would say yes he was born
36:10here he was born here okay so number two
36:13guy you see with the bandan and he's got
36:15a darker complexion and he's he's
36:17thinner yes and he's about 5'8 with a
36:19hoodie with a hoodie is it black hoodie
36:22or what color is it it again it was all
36:25really dark so I'm assuming he was
36:27wearing black
36:28what about the bandana can you see a
36:29color on the bandana it was very dark as
36:32well okay anything distinguishing about
36:34his eyes I didn't look straight into his
36:37eyes no no any other portions of
36:40clothing that you
36:42recognized no unfortunately okay how
36:45about this guy's um language what did
36:47how was he did he speak to you he didn't
36:49speak at all nothing he just nodded he
36:52nodded who seemed to be giving the
36:54directions number one he the guy first
36:56guy you encountered seem to be telling
36:58everyone what to
37:00do from what you you can tell okay so
37:03now they're both upstairs with you where
37:06are your parents they're in the living
37:08room they're in the living room and now
37:11what
37:13happens they take me downstairs are they
37:16have they tied you now they yeah the
37:17number one has tied me and now they're
37:19taking me down the stairs describe first
37:21how he's tied you he told he grabbed my
37:24arm and he pulled it to the back and
37:25said give me your other arm as well okay
37:28and then I was trying to make a wide X
37:32so that I could later loosen if I needed
37:35it to but he had pulled really really
37:38tight and I guess he felt my Flinch and
37:41that's when he quickly tied the second
37:43knot I think I don't exactly know all I
37:46know is like I flinched and then it got
37:47tighter so you were T you were bound
37:50behind you behind me yes okay um and
37:54then you're taken downstairs tell me
37:56what happens down there
37:58um they sit me right at the bottom of
37:59the stairs like um slightly out not
38:03exactly directly at the bottom of the
38:05stair well but just slightly over a
38:07little and um the third guy who I didn't
38:11encounter but he was there he was like
38:13where's your money cooperate with us and
38:16you and then my mom's like you know
38:17yelling and don't hurt us and you know
38:19my money's in my wallet just please
38:21leave my
38:23paperwork this person this third guy who
38:25you're now describing do you see him
38:28ever only as a shadow because he was
38:32there's a a wall partial wall and he was
38:35like right in that Vision over my father
38:39but partially in that
38:42Vision describe his voice to you to me
38:46it had a slight just a very very slight
38:50accent do you recognize the
38:53accent I can't definitively say which
38:56accent it was was it was more like a
38:59gese or Jamaican accent okay so it's an
39:03Island accent it's not what you would
39:05call it's not an Asian accent no it's
39:07not like a a a Western European German
39:10or or anything like this this is
39:11something you recognize as being South
39:14Asian or Caribbean Caribbean yeah
39:17Caribbean okay
39:20um when the guy upstairs number one guy
39:23who who we described as our number one
39:25guy with the dreadlocks or with the yeah
39:28the dreadlocks right when he shows you
39:31the gun do you see anything on his hands
39:35gloves he's wearing gloves what number
39:37one was wearing gloves what about anyone
39:39else the other guy the second
39:41guy I don't remember I he must have been
39:45but I can't 100% say all I saw was that
39:49number one had gloves in his hands do
39:51you recognize or can you describe the
39:52type of gloves he had in his hands
39:55leather gloves leather gloves okay so
39:57they're not they're not like surgical
39:59gloves they're not surgical gloves they
40:01weren't like are skating gloves or like
40:04wool gloves I'm pretty sure they were
40:08leather gloves leather gloves
40:11okay so now you're downstairs you're
40:14sitting in the stairs they they told me
40:16to sit at the bottom of the stairs are
40:18you on the floor or on the on the floor
40:20your parents are in the living room yes
40:23how many people are with you and how
40:24many people are with your parents one
40:26with me the guy in the corner with my
40:28parents and the third guy kind of going
40:32between going between and where is the
40:34purse sit down where's the purse sit
40:36down he's the guy who you describe as
40:38the thinner build medium and he was
40:40upstairs with
40:42you okay
40:46um where do you go what happens from
40:49this point now you're down on the stairs
40:50and there's a guy going between there's
40:52two obviously your parents in the living
40:54room you're on the floor they looking
40:55for my mother's wallet
40:58but she can't
41:08she's take a deep
41:13breath best way to do this best way for
41:16you to to on this on these parts in here
41:19is to pull yourself out and be like
41:21you're you're an observer in this okay
41:25it's not going to help you through or
41:26heal you through
41:27but it's going to help you try and
41:29remember components and it neutralizes
41:32what your mom said you just are now
41:34hearing you're echoing what your mom is
41:35saying to these people
41:38okay after a bit she had realized that
41:42she didn't carry a purse she had just
41:44gone home from dancing so her wallet
41:47would be in the bag and that's where the
41:49money would
41:51be and while that guy's searching for
41:53her and telling her to sit back down the
41:56the one behind the wall wall was asking
41:58my father if he had money in his
42:01wallet and my dad said yes and they
42:04asked that much I I think I heard my dad
42:07say
42:09$60 and they then the one that was with
42:12me was signaled and he said come here go
42:15show us where it is he had a
42:18lower lower tone who's that who number
42:21one number one a lower voice yeah okay
42:24and this is um and you say the reason 28
42:27to 30ish 33 is is um is why why do you
42:33hear that as being the age of this
42:34person that you're dealing with that
42:36he's it's just the way he like his
42:41muscular tone I don't know how exactly
42:44to say this but he wasn't he wasn't like
42:46built like muscular like a young man
42:49what about the second guy you hear when
42:51you what do you how would How would how
42:52old do you think he would be
42:55in I I didn't hear his voice I didn't
42:58get to see much of his face okay so you
43:01don't know but if I had to guess I'd say
43:03younger than that number one though okay
43:06so they take you you're you're now there
43:10and they're wanting to go to this wallet
43:12yes so they're now telling me like
43:14dragging me by my my sweater get up get
43:16up show us where it
43:19is okay and one kept me at the door
43:22while one was inside looking when you
43:25looked inside that bedroom
43:27had it been you said it was tossed had
43:29it already been tossed
43:34so they were in so the room had been
43:37tossed prior to you opening the door to
43:39see see yes okay um cuz that's when I
43:42figured out what was happening and it
43:43kind of froze so I heard them moving
43:47stuff around and how long do you think
43:49that they were in that you heard between
43:52the time I guess it's tough in the in
43:54the freeze time but how long do you you
43:56hear it and then moving around before
43:58you're confronted by one of
44:01them less than five less than five
44:05minutes okay I then it just time time is
44:10Time's all over the place I understand
44:12that it's your estimation it's about
44:13five minutes
44:15maybe
44:17um okay so you're now upstairs and he's
44:20in who's inside the room looking for
44:22this
44:23wallet in in your dad's your I'm
44:26guessing number two Because by the time
44:30I was found number two wasn't on the
44:31first floor he had gone back
44:34down oh no no no I mean when you're back
44:36up sorry when you're now back upstairs
44:38and they're looking for your dad's
44:39wallet mhm who's with you and who's
44:41turning the room number one has me okay
44:43and number two is the one looking and
44:45flipping and where is it here is it over
44:48there and number one keeps saying time
44:51we're running out of time faster it's
44:53taking too long
44:55okay how long is he in in that room
44:59for maybe just a few minutes few moments
45:03not that long do they find what they're
45:04looking for I don't remember
45:08okay what happens
45:10next he decides to tie me down to the
45:14banister okay that he didn't want to
45:16take me downstairs anymore so you're now
45:18tied to the banister yep he calls for
45:21Cousy so he's like get kzy to give me
45:24that string I just gave him and who is
45:26he talking to number two so he says to
45:30number two tell czy to get me that
45:34string do you hear any other names
45:36during this whole
45:38time czy just czy
45:41czy okay so now what happens they tied
45:46my arm to the banister did number two go
45:48downstairs yes he followed the
45:50directions yes and he comes back
45:52upstairs with the string yes and you get
45:55tied to the banister yes okay continue
45:59and the next thing I can hear are them
46:00telling my parents to move to the
46:02basement okay and I'm asking them why
46:05where are you going and my mom's yelling
46:07to me I want my daughter why can't my
46:10daughter come too I want my
46:15daughter who goes down to the basement
46:17do you can you see that from where
46:19you're sitting my back is towards the
46:21wall do you hear anyone else in the main
46:24level where where your parents were
46:27like you can hear if people are Trucking
46:29down the stairs you hear your parents
46:30going down the stairs do you hear like
46:34five sets of foot strength foot
46:36footsteps going down there or can't you
46:38hear that I was just such a distress I I
46:42don't exactly know how many people went
46:44down okay did you ever see a gun on
46:47anyone else
46:50on cuz number two and number three as
46:53we'll call them number three is the
46:54unknown guy who you just hear who who we
46:57hear is czy and you hear him with a
47:00slight island Caribbean accent okay um
47:04one of those two like they they dressed
47:07very similar like very thin
47:09build you saw number three you can
47:12describe just briefly like through the
47:15the Reflection from the lamp post okay
47:17on the street yeah through my uh through
47:20the the sheer curtains curtains
47:24yeah I just saw briefly he was quite
47:27thin build another thin build guy yeah
47:29similar to number two yes and and what
47:32about the gun did you see another gun I
47:34saw the tip of his gun cuz he had
47:36pointed it out at my father and that one
47:38was was a revolver like it had the the
47:42rotating you saw the cylinder yeah the
47:46rotating cylinder portion of the gun
47:48yeah you saw that yeah okay and what
47:51color was the
47:54gun I was quite a bit of way okay and
47:58how did you see the sil how did you see
48:00this did you see it as a silhouette or
48:01did you actually physically see the gun
48:03I was on the floor kneeling when he was
48:05asking my father for his wallet yes he
48:07had pointed it out and I like I was told
48:10to keep my head down but I kind of
48:12looked up looked up like peripheral here
48:15and then I saw
48:17that so what portion of the gun are you
48:19seeing if you're seeing are you seeing
48:21him holding the with the handle and the
48:23revolver cuz the cylinder portion sticks
48:25right yeah like right close
48:27by here can you see him wearing gloves
48:29or can you see him honestly the lights
48:31were all out on that side of the house
48:34okay but in your estimation it's a
48:37revolver because of what you I I saw
48:39like I saw like what it looked like
48:42the okay you see nothing else about his
48:45clothing or anything else unfortunately
48:47I wish I could have but that's all we
48:49just have to make sure that uh that we
48:52understand so you're now you when um
48:55when you're tied to the banner sister
48:57right and your parents are now going
48:59down to the basement do you hear or see
49:02anyone else upstairs while that's
49:04happening or down no one came back
49:05upstairs for me no one came back

49:10hear the voices down other than your
49:12parents can you hear their voices down
49:15there I all I could hear was this is
49:17taking too long who's saying that whose
49:21voice is that you hear all three voices

49:54to my I'm assuming it's to my father
49:57because he was the one asking for the
50:01wallet now your mom's your mom with her
50:05wallet would your mom do you know if
50:07your mom had gone to the bank after
50:09after her dance class or after she had
50:12finished we she just uh went to the bank

50:18of car does your mom
50:20drive and first off did your mom drive

51:44know if it was one and then what I'm
51:47going to tell you and then one or it was
51:49two and then what they said I'm going to
51:52tell you and then another one basically
51:55they had made the first round or pop pop
52:00and they has they had said okay that's
52:03enough let's go who said that whose
52:06voice is that number one okay and then I
52:09heard one more after that and they were
52:11like that's enough let's go okay and
52:14again that's number
52:16one yes do you hear three's voice at all
52:20not at that after he had pretty much
52:24said you
52:30after he said that you lied to us you
52:33lied to us you just had to
52:38cooperate and then they shot him and
52:40that's the last time I heard of
52:42three okay so how many shots not putting
52:47it in sequence how many shots do you
52:48think you hear in
52:51total five
52:55five then what
52:58happens and then talk about them first
53:01your scrambling they scrambling can you
53:05see the front door from where you are no
53:08okay did you ever hear how they got into

53:13house doorbell ring no kick door nothing

53:19that I don't remember how they got in I

53:39assuming they leave because they're not
53:41there when we get there um do you know

53:46out you can't hear that I'm I'm pretty
53:50sure it was a front door y but I'm not
53:54100% I didn't get to see anything like
53:57my arms were behind my back and I was
53:59against the banister Y and the banister
54:01is Twisted so I can't see the front
54:05door now you hear your
54:08dad yeah right and what's going on so
54:11what do you hear next after you hear the
54:13scrambling they're gone because you're
54:15hearing no more I gather that's how you
54:17assume they're gone is because you don't
54:18hear then you hear your dad I I reach
54:20for my phone at that point and you call
54:23911 okay and then you what happen
54:26happens after
54:29you're I just I I heard my dad go out
54:33and I don't know if they damaged his
54:36throat or how did you hear your dad so
54:38what this is the kind of importance
54:40because if you he did he go out the
54:41front door how did you how did you know
54:44he went out the front door cuz I heard
54:46him open the door did you hear that door
54:48open when these guys were scrambling to
54:51leave there was just so much thuing I is
54:55your house got an alarm system yes do
54:57you know the alarm system when the front
54:58door goes off and there's that chirping
55:00we don't have that chirping no no is
55:03your house alarmed at night when you
55:05guys go to bed before the last person
55:07goes up to bed they will alarm it but
55:09prior to that it doesn't get alarmed
55:12okay so you hear your you from your when
55:16your father exits you hear the door open
55:18because you hear your dog and then you
55:20and I can hear like the outside noises
55:22okay like the wind coming in and I just
55:25hear my d

55:31he you think that he's sustained some
55:33kind of injury because he's not you
55:35can't understand what he's saying okay
55:38what about do do you can you hear your
55:41mom okay where does your dad go do you
55:45know where you never see your dad again
55:47until when we're at the hospital I think
55:49that's what you said right I saw him
55:51when he was on the grany but the
55:53officers walked me around so I really
55:58didn't okay so now you're upstairs and
56:00you're on the phone with the 911
56:02operator okay you remain on the phone
56:05until the police
56:07arrived and the officer is the one who
56:10cuts gets you
56:12free he he first had to secure the place
56:15yes it took me a while to get somebody
56:17upstairs
56:20okay and I just kept
56:22screaming okay and
56:25um I because they went into my bedroom
56:27and I have a pair of scissors that I cut
56:28my hair with yes and they said that they
56:31cut it for me
56:32but it was still a while longer until
56:35after they got the string so I could be
56:37free do you understand that they of the
56:39importance to clear what they were doing
56:41it wasn't to leave you in any kind of
56:43trauma or anything like that I
56:45understand it's just
56:47did from it's a very tough question
56:50considering all the things that you've
56:51gone through tonight Jennifer
56:53is any of the tying up any of of The
56:56Binding any of the things were you
56:58sexually assaulted in any way it wasn't
57:01that this was strictly they were after

57:56classes with a very good teacher of mine
58:00okay and I'm going back to school in
58:03January to to study biotechnology

58:16house do they have a large quantity of

58:22bank I wouldn't say that it was large

58:39wouldn't carry around a lot of cash is

59:35dealing with when you came back well my
59:37mom's sister was in town for the
59:40weddings and then uh my mom the weekend
59:43after that wedding we took her to
59:45Montreal for like one last visit before
59:47she went home to the UK to her son okay
59:50and then honestly I think probably like
59:52a day or two after that um
59:56my grandfather fell really ill and he
59:59went to the hospital and my mom and I
1:00:01were the two main people CU my uncle
1:00:04doesn't drive so we were the ones
1:00:06driving in and out all the time so is
1:00:09this your mom's father okay
1:00:14um so that $1,100 did it get taken
1:00:17tonight I believe so and where would
1:00:20that where would that have been in my
1:00:22mom's bedside table and you said you saw
1:00:25them did they go into that bedside
1:00:28table um and was that the second time
1:00:31that you when they were upstairs and
1:00:32they were looking for your father's
1:00:33wallet well they're looking for my
1:00:34father's wallet they flipped the flipped
1:00:37the bed off and they're like oh you
1:00:38didn't you miss that
1:00:40drawer like number one told number two
1:00:43you missed the drawer so he number one
1:00:45was the one that leaned over and pulled
1:00:46it open okay you guys are inside the
1:00:49bedroom I was just at the doorway of the
1:00:52bedroom okay so in where in relation to
1:00:55this bedroom and where is this this very
1:00:57tight very tight space okay so he he
1:01:00could stay with you and still reach
1:01:01around and grab this and open this
1:01:03drawer and that's where they Well he
1:01:04kind of pulled me with one hand closer
1:01:07yeah as he leaned over but it was close
1:01:09enough that you
1:01:10could
1:01:12maneuver okay and um so they grab that
1:01:17that American money yes you see it go I
1:01:20saw him fold it and put it in his pocket
1:01:23okay and
1:01:26did that seem to agitate them did you
1:01:28see any change in Behavior after after
1:01:31that they're like there has to be
1:01:36more who's saying that number one is
1:01:39saying there has to be
1:01:43more do they look any anywhere else are
1:01:46they looking anywhere else not besides
1:01:49my mother's wallet still in my dad's
1:01:51wallet I don't even know if they got it
1:01:53but those two things that they wanted to
1:01:55see
1:01:56whatever happened down in the basement I
1:01:58like I tried to hear as much as I could
1:02:00but it was too many people and we have
1:02:03really creaky floors so it's when you're
1:02:06when they're in that room in inside the
1:02:08bedroom and now um is it lit any better
1:02:12no so it's still all in
1:02:15darkness so you still can't see if
1:02:17number two has got gloves on or not no
1:02:20they they had like something blind me
1:02:23like they number one once when first got
1:02:26in the room the light was on and then
1:02:28he's like hold on and he grabbed I don't
1:02:31remember what he grabbed jacket or
1:02:32sleeve or something and he kind of like
1:02:34sh shielded me with it and that's when
1:02:37he took my glasses and he like tossed
1:02:41them so he took your glasses off okay
1:02:45how did you get your glasses back I
1:02:46asked the officer okay and how bad are
1:02:50your eyes with your glasses
1:02:51off degree wise I'm about High four I
1:02:56think 475 and 525 okay so you have with
1:03:00your glasses off it's difficult for you
1:03:01to see things right I can see shapes but
1:03:05no definition but prior to all of this
1:03:09you had your glasses on yes so when you
1:03:11describe the gun and you describe the
1:03:13dreadlocks and you describe number
1:03:15two what about when you saw the revolver
1:03:17did you have your glasses on at that
1:03:19point in time so all of these
1:03:20observations are made with your glasses
1:03:22it's not until you're tied upstairs
1:03:24you're you know they're they're before
1:03:26they tied me to the banister like when
1:03:28we went the stairs the second time okay
1:03:30and who ties you to the
1:03:33banister I'm not sure if number two
1:03:35helped number one but it was behind me
1:03:38I'm not sure who did the tying but
1:03:40number two goes downstairs to get the
1:03:42string yes to tie tie you up and brings
1:03:44it up and brings it up from this cuz cuz
1:03:48and you're sure it's cuz like CZ and cuz
1:03:52I'm assuming a no I'm not saying that
1:03:53that's what it is but it's on that line

1:04:47in third year I believe third year of
1:04:50what type of program engineering
1:04:52engineering um so there's
1:04:58nothing there's no it's because of
1:05:01important you know like there are places
1:05:03where there's a legal G gambling going
1:05:04on where people think there's large
1:05:06quantities of money what in your opinion
1:05:09would cause people to Target your house
1:05:12to think there was a large quantity of
1:05:14money I'm not
1:05:16sure now you say your mom drives Alexus
1:05:20it could be because of the Aesthetics
1:05:22yes what about your dad he drives a
1:05:24Mercedes and he loves that baby is that

1:06:38our clocks on the daylight savings but I
1:06:40think around 4:30 or so normally he'll
1:06:43be home by 10: to 4: okay so 4:30 he and
1:06:47does he leave does he go out for the
1:06:48rest of the night or is he in well he
1:06:50came home and then oh he went with his
1:06:53my uncle yeah he went with my uncle I
1:06:55don't know where they went um all I know
1:06:58is that he came back with a
1:07:01heat vent I don't know he bought
1:07:04something for the heat okay he said his
1:07:07he doesn't like how the draft comes up

1:08:14way of finding out for sure where your

1:11:14have no control over what they say and
1:11:16what they do my only advice to you is
1:11:18don't read the papers and turn the TVs
1:11:20off right um they may not they may come
1:11:24and go in very quiet Ely disappear
1:11:26because something else pops onto their
1:11:27radar
1:11:29but you know home invasion type robbery
1:11:32where someone is murdered can become
1:11:35very big news and people wear this stuff
1:11:38you know they they hang on it so for the
1:11:41next little next five to seven days I
1:11:44would say that tell your friends and
1:11:46your well your family it's it's of no
1:11:49value for you to be listening to the
1:11:50news or reading about this stuff okay
1:11:54because it's just just going to upset
1:11:55you even more than what than what you

1:40:12we confirm that it's your phone and the
1:40:15tower site location if requested for the
1:40:17above mentioned times and dates and
1:40:19Towers now become uh I just dropped that
1:40:22Towers become relevant in this case
1:40:24because of where you are when the phone
1:40:25call comes in on the on today's date
1:40:28right is that it firms your story to
1:40:30saying that I was in my room when I made
1:40:33that when the calls came
1:40:34in and um that will show up on the tower
1:40:38site information that's the relevance of
1:40:40the tow site information it also may
1:40:42turn out that maybe during this time
1:40:44period you were
1:40:46targeted and you were in an area and
1:40:49this a enables us to go back and try and
1:40:51look for cameras and other things
1:40:54through the towers not saying it's going
1:40:55to happen in your case but it's why we
1:40:57ask for tower sites right tower sites
1:40:59always show when you're on the phone
1:41:01they show you where you're where you are
1:41:02when you're on the phone making calls um
1:41:06and that the above mentioned records are
1:41:07to be released for the York reg to the
1:41:09York Regional Police for the purposes of
1:41:11an investigation of murder of your mom
1:41:14and for the time period as stated
1:41:15November 1st to November 9th this is the
1:41:19part of the consent I am voluntar giving
1:41:22consent and I know that I you don't have
1:41:24to you don't have to do this this is
1:41:25your this is you volunteering to do this
1:41:28you may withdraw your consent at any
1:41:30time I understand that these records may
1:41:32be used as evid against me and may
1:41:34become any part of a criminal proceeding
