3:18as I indicated when this tape started
3:21that it today is Tuesday the ninth day
3:23of November 2010 and the time when I
3:26started was 244 in the morning we're
3:30presently at five district in the Town
3:31of Markham and the Regional Municipality
3:33of York is there anything is there
3:37anything I need to know in order to
3:39understand your statement and that means
3:40is is you suffer from any physical or
3:43mental condition use of alcohol drugs or

5:23evidence if convicted of fabricating
5:26fabricating evidence you may be
5:27sentenced up to 14 years in jail
5:29it is also an offense under Section 139
5:32of the Criminal Code to obstruct by
5:34willfully attempting to obstruct pervert
5:36or defeat the course of justice you may
5:38be charged if you obstruct justice
5:40it struck justice if convicted of
5:43obstructing justice you could be
5:44sentenced up to 10 years in jail it is
5:47also an offense under Section 140 the
5:49Criminal Code to commit public mischief
5:51by causing a police officer to start or
5:53continue an investigation by making a
5:55false statement that accuses some other
5:57person of committing an offense and you
5:59may be charged if you commit public
6:01mischief if convicted of public mischief
6:03you could be sentenced up to five years
6:05if you are charged with one or more of
6:07these offenses this statement may be
6:09used in court against you do you
6:11understand the criminal sanctions of

11:11so we're through the forms that's just
11:15that's the administrative process about
11:19this now I want you to sort of take
11:23yourself back to earlier on today
11:26yesterday meeting the 8th of November
11:29and tell me about your day okay start at
11:33any point in time where wherever you
11:36feel comfortable and then we're gonna
11:38move we're gonna move forward okay
11:43yesterday probably around 9 o'clock in
11:47the morning 1930 my mother she woke me
11:53up and she told me that she was going to
11:55want to visit my grandfather was ill and
11:59that she was gonna go over pick up my
12:01aunt to go once we stepped out of the
12:05house there were few police officers
12:08blocking barricading the driveway and so
12:12she called me down and when I came down
12:13the officers just said that there was
12:15like a gas leak in the area
12:17and there were just as precaution
12:19evacuating and before we could walk over
12:22to a safer place they said that the
12:26evacuation had been moved to some routes
12:28it was safe to go back home but that my
12:32mom decided for me to stay home and
12:34because I have some piano history stuff
12:38that I'm working on so I was doing that
12:41on the computer played a little piano I
12:45forget what time and one comes came home
12:47probably early 3:00 3:30 my father came
12:52home
12:52later than usual he said that he had
12:55forgot to lock a toolbox I need to turn
12:59back but I'm not exactly sure he just
13:02was home later than usual and once he
13:07came home he phoned up my uncle and
13:09asked him to go to buy USB pen I think
13:13just to go shopping with him my uncle
13:16doesn't drive they laugh so my mom had
13:20prepared dinner because she was heading
13:22to go dancing that night died line
13:24dancing she does it every Monday and so
13:27her and I sat down for dinner first and
13:29then after my father came home he did
13:32that and then a friend of mine came over
13:34we do TV night every every so often so
13:39my dad I guess went up on the computer
13:41as he always does and I was a dancer
13:44she's my friend watching movies and my
13:46mom was out dancing my friend left
13:49around 9:00 and then my upstairs in my
13:59room called it a night with the TV on
14:02I'm talking on the phone with a friend
14:04of mine and then shortly after my mom
14:10came home I believe that was around 9:30
14:12or so she was rummaging downstairs I
14:15didn't think anything of it and then
14:20suddenly I just heard my mom calling for
14:23my dad to come down and that's when I
14:25lowered the volume on my TV and I could
14:28hear the voices weren't any voices I was
14:32very familiar with and so I was scared
14:36and I couldn't move I just sat in my
14:38room for a while and then I thought I
14:43heard them all up like leave the top
14:45floor and I peered out of my bedroom
14:46door and the guy was there and he came
14:49at me and had string in his hands and
14:52tied my arms back and said I have a gun
14:54behind your back do what I say if you do
14:57what I say then no one will get hurt
14:58where is the money show me where your
15:00money is
15:10I I have still a few a bit of money put
15:15aside from when I was waitressing - so
15:18you showed him where it was and he took
15:21it and put it in his pocket I think and
15:24then they pushed me to my parents room
15:29and asked me where the money was there
15:32and I didn't really know so they kind of
15:36like one was right beside me blocking my
15:38way to the door well the other ones
15:40turned over the bed to find some work
15:44cash in my mom's bedside table how much
15:52then they dragged me down the stairs and
15:54made me kneel at the bottom do I lie me
15:57to face down on the floor well the other
15:59guy had a gun behind my head and asked
16:02my mom were her purse oh my mom kept
16:07trying to get up and they kept telling
16:09her sit down and so I did pretty good
16:12hurts I told her mum sit down they were
16:15trying to find her wallet but she her
16:18English thinka so she kept saying first
16:20they kept pushing her down onto the
16:22chair okay take your time take your time
16:28all this is very important so take you
16:31to it
16:34he kept all the lights up on the main
16:38floor the only time there was light it
16:43was when they opened the fridge door to
16:45see if they could find where my mom's
16:47purse was I didn't at that point I saw
16:51three figures men one with the hoodie
16:57like the one I could see the most
16:59clearly he had a hoodie on and I believe
17:01he had a bandana of some sort covering
17:06from like his lure under his eyes down
17:10and then for some reason I think one of
17:17the gentleman asked my father if he had
17:19money in his wallet and where his wallet
17:21was so they took me because I was next
17:23to the stairwell they took me up the
17:25stairs to show them where my father's
17:28wallet was but I'm I didn't know they
17:30had turned the room upside down I didn't
17:32know where his pants were at that time
17:36and then after they had gotten that they
17:43had taken me and they tied me to the top
17:44of the banister just with one string I
17:48could still move but I was afraid to
17:51because the one guy just had that gun
17:59next thing I know I think I heard my
18:01parents going down the stairs and my mom
18:03was asking him for me to come wind up he
18:07wouldn't let me come with him after the
18:13last things I heard them say was you
18:17lied you lied to us
18:19you lied to then I heard two pops my mom
18:27scream I know that further
18:41thank you Tom take your time
18:49and I think I heard my mom say something
18:54that they did one more before they left
18:57and then one of the guys said we have to
19:00go now in too long and then they write
19:04up the door Wednesday right out the door
19:08I heard my dad close the stairs and I at
19:12that point I had my phone in my pot in
19:14my on me behind me that I did in there
19:18that they didn't know about so when I
19:22leave when they I thought that I had
19:24heard them I'll leave and my dad ran up
19:26the stairs I with the phone in occult
19:30but I still hadn't heard anything from
19:32my mom and all I could hear was my dad
19:34running on the street moaning sound
19:48and that's pretty much what so what
19:53happens continued on from from now to
19:57the point that the police arrive I was
19:59just on the phone with the secretary or
20:02the operator I begged her not to leave
20:04me alone
20:05and that my dad was outside that was
20:08yelling at me but he wouldn't come in I
20:10don't know he didn't hear me him to come
20:11in I think he went to look real and I
20:16didn't get to see my dad at all until
20:18before how did you get free the club
20:25came and he snipped the two the two
20:29strings and they said they couldn't
20:37untie me until they knew how to properly
20:39untie the strip okay so we've gone
20:44through we've gone through a very tough
20:47portion and now we're sitting gonna go
20:50back clinically you know try and want

21:01go back you're up in your room at 9:30

21:13on the phone with that person when you

21:24conversation it ended when I heard my
21:26mother asking my father to come down the
21:29stairs and normally they they they don't
21:34you know they don't communicate very
21:37well so what I did was I told my friend
21:40I'll call you back yeah I hung up stuck
21:43the phone in the back pocket and started
21:46to go up the door and that's when I
21:48noticed that there were men running
21:50around okay so let's back up again when
21:54you hear your mom come do you hear your
21:57mom in the house
21:59she's in the house I had gone down the
22:01stairs did you hear just so before this
22:04this is when when did you hear your mom
22:06for the first time in the house when she
22:08came home and what time was that

26:47hold you down two times because we can
26:48probably get that from who you were
26:50speaking to right cuz how long after you
26:53end the conversation with the person
26:56does this do you hear the voices they're
26:59already in the house so you end the
27:01conversation because do you hear the
27:03voices you'll call the person back I'd
27:06yeah because I heard my dad and then I
27:08heard some strange voices when I was
27:09like I'll call you back

27:12a co-worker of mine and what's what's
27:14that name Edward Edward you know Edwards

27:23your father to go downstairs my mother
27:25calling for

27:29she's speaking in another one she was

28:36tried to peer out and he saw me and
28:39that's when he came can you did you have
28:42lights on in your room at that time my
28:44life I've only had the reflection off my
28:46TV which is lower to the door what do
28:49you see of this guy and I'm calling him
28:52a guy because you said you you thought
28:54they're wrong they're all three minutes
28:56okay so tell me about this guy uh he was
29:01medium build okay
29:03I didn't I don't remember any of his
29:06clothing unfortunately the only thing I
29:09can remember with him with he had
29:10dreadlocks

29:14his race to me he was black did it was
29:16his head covered was his face covered do

29:21that his dreads block through like kind
29:24of like flopping all over the place I
29:26couldn't really see his face and they
29:28kept the lights dark as much as possible

29:37say they're dreadlocks and they were
29:38flopping all over his
29:39please it's hard I I don't want to
29:44remember a hundred percent I think some
29:47of them were like around his face was a
29:49little shorter and then in the back
29:51there there were longer ones
29:53okay now his complexion there's various
29:57degrees of that dark to medium dark to
30:02to actually light and say he was you I
30:06wouldn't say he was the darkest person
30:08I've seen but he was on the darker side
30:11any facial hair
30:21I'd like to say maybe say only what you

30:29would you think I don't want you to say
30:30what you're doing I don't want to see

32:10and it didn't look like that it looked

34:48as well but thinner but thinner build so

34:57are you so where are they in comparison

35:17I'd say one was pretty much right around
35:19my height level in which guys at the
35:23meeting don't the first guy first guy
35:26you encounter who shows you the gun yeah

35:30together he's he's about your height
35:32so he's somewhere in the area five six
35:35two five eight five six to seven okay
35:37okay and the other guy I'd say around
35:40five eight maybe smidgen higher Lauren
35:45so he's taller than you but not much not
35:47much okay now the first guy who spoke to
35:50you what kind of did he have any accent
35:52music clear good makeup was it clear
35:55English unbroken I'm no accent from the
36:00terms he used I didn't get to pick up an
36:02accent now he's a short phrases he
36:05sounded can be sounded Canadian I would
36:07say yes he was born here he was born
36:10here okay so number two guy you see with
36:13the bandana and he's got a darker
36:15complexion and he's he's thinner and
36:17he's about five eight with a hoodie is
36:20it black hoodie or what color is it
36:22it again it was all really dark so I'm
36:25assuming he was wearing black what about
36:27the bandana can you see a color on the
36:29bandana
36:30it was very dark as well okay anything
36:33distinguishing about his eyes I didn't
36:36know any other portions of clothing that

37:47tighter so you were taught you were

37:53then you're taking downstairs tell me
37:56what happens down there they sit me
37:58right at the bottom of the stairs like
37:59um slightly out
38:02not exactly directly at the bottom of
38:04the stairwell but just slightly over a
38:06little and the third guy who I didn't
38:10encounter but he was there he was like
38:12where's your money cooperate with us and
38:15then my mom's like you know yelling and
38:17don't hurt us and you know my money is
38:19in my wallet just please leave my
38:21paperwork this person this third guy who
38:25you're now describing do you see him
38:27ever only as a shadow because he was
38:31there's a wall and he was like right in
38:36that vision over my father but partially
38:40in that vision describe his voice to you
38:44to me had a slight just a very very
38:49slight accent do you recognize the
38:51accent I can't definitively say which
38:56looks more like a Guyanese or Jamaican
39:00accent okay so it's an island accent
39:04it's not what you'd call it's not an
39:05Asian accent no it's not like a Western
39:08European German or anything like this
39:10this is something you recognize as being
39:12South Asian or Caribbean Caribbean okay
39:20when the guy upstairs number one guy who
39:23you're we described as their number one
39:25guy with the dreadlocks or with the
39:27dreadlocks right when he shows you the
39:30gun do you see anything on his hands
39:34he's wearing gloves
39:38what about anyone else the other guy the

39:44but I can't 100% say all I saw was that
39:48number one had gloves in his hands do

40:12downstairs you're sitting in the stairs

40:32in between the where's the purse

42:33being the age of this person that you're

43:44heard them moving stuff around how long

43:50heard between the time but I guess it's
43:53tough in that in the freeze time but how
43:54long do you you hear it and then moving
43:57around before you're confronted by one
43:59of them less than five that's in five
44:03minutes okay then time time is x all
44:10over the place I understand that it's
44:11your estimation it's about five minutes

44:16okay so you're now upstairs and he's in
44:20who's inside the room looking for this
44:21wallet in your dad's with you
44:25I'm guessing number two because by the
44:28time I was found number two wasn't on
44:30the first floor he had gone back down oh

44:36then you're back upstairs and they're
44:37looking for your dad's wallet mm-hmm
44:39who's with you and who's turning the
44:41number one has me okay number two is the
44:44one looking and flipping in where is it

44:48keep saying time we're running out of

44:51faster is taking too long okay how long
44:56is he in that room for maybe just a few

45:09he decides to tie me down to the
45:13banister okay thought he didn't want to
45:15take me downstairs anymore so you're now

45:19Cuzzi so they get cozy to give me that
45:23string I just gave him and who is he
45:26talking to number two
45:28so he says to number two tell Kazi to
45:31get me that string
45:33do you hear any other names during this

45:43what happens they tied my arm to the
45:46banister did number two go downstairs
45:48he followed the directions and he comes
45:51back upstairs with the string yes and

45:56continue and the next thing I can hear
45:59and I'm telling my parents to move to
46:01the basement okay and I'm asking why
46:05were you going in my mom's yelling to me
46:07I want my daughter why can't my daughter
46:09come to I want my daughter who goes down
46:16to the basement do you can you see that
46:18from where you're sitting back is
46:19towards do you hear anyone else in the
46:22main level where your parents were like
46:27you can hear if people are trucking down
46:29the stairs you hear your parents going

48:14and then I saw that

48:21him holding the with the handle and the
48:22revolver cuz the cylinder portion sticks

48:27see him wearing gloves or can you see
48:29him honestly okay but in your estimation
48:35it's a revolver because of what you I I
48:38thought like I saw like what it look
48:40like okay you see nothing else about his
48:45clothing or anything else but you know I

48:48just have to make sure that that we

54:31my dad go out and I don't know if they
54:34damaged his throat how did you hear
54:37you're dead so what this is the kind of
54:39importance because if you he did he go
54:41out the front door how did you how did
54:43you know he went out the front door cuz
54:45I heard him open a door did you hear
54:47that door open when these guys were
54:49scrambling to leave studying is your
54:54house got an alarm system yes

54:57front door goes off and there's that
54:59chirping we don't we don't have that no
55:01is your house alarmed at night when you
55:04guys go to bed before the last person
55:06goes up to bed they will alarm it but

55:15father exits you hear the door open
55:17because you hear your dot and then your
55:19she can hear like outside noises okay
55:22it's like the wind coming in I just hear
55:25my dad I think
55:31you think that he's sustained some kind
55:33of injury because he's not you can't
55:34understand what he's saying
55:36okay what about can you hear your mom

56:26my bedroom and I have a pair scissors

56:39importance of clear that what they were
56:40doing it wasn't to leave you in any kind
56:42of trauma or anything like that I did
56:47from what it's a very tough question
56:49considering all the things that you've

59:56felt really ill and he went to the
59:58hospital and my mom and I were the two

1:00:04so we were the ones driving in and out

1:00:45that leaned over and pulled it open okay
1:00:47you guys are inside the bedroom I was
1:00:50just at the door okay so then we're in
1:00:54relation to this bedroom and where is
1:00:55this this is a tight very tight okay so
1:00:58he he could stay with you and still
1:01:01reach around and grab this and open this
1:01:02drawer and that's where they kind of
1:01:04pulled me with one hand closer yeah as
1:01:06he leaned overdose close enough that you
1:01:08could maneuver okay and so they grabbed
1:01:15that bad American money you see it go
1:01:19I saw him okay and did that seem to
1:01:26agitate them did you see any change in
1:01:28behavior after after that who's saying
1:01:37that remember what you're saying there
1:01:39has to be more
1:01:43do they look anywhere else are they
1:01:46looking anywhere else not besides my
1:01:48mother's wallet still and my dad's
1:01:51wallet I don't even know if they got it

1:02:17gloves on or not no they they had like

1:02:24once wouldn't first got in the room the

1:02:28he grabbed a hoodie grabbed jacket or
1:02:31sleeve or something any kind of like

1:02:34shielded me with it and that's when he
1:02:36took my glasses anyway tossed him so he
1:02:41took your glasses off okay how did you
1:02:44get your glasses back I asked the
1:02:46officer okay and how bad are your eyes
1:02:49with your glasses off degree wise I'm
1:02:53about high for I think 475 and 525 okay
1:02:58so you have with your glasses off it's

1:06:02the house at 7:00 picks up her friend

1:06:18so nothing was any different tonight
1:06:20other than the fact that she may have
1:06:21been home a little bit earlier than that
