4. 0:07years by a sex offender in a backyard.
5. 0:10Well, over and over again, as you know,
6. 0:12law enforcement failed to investigate
7. 0:14that yard. And tonight, ABC's Chris
8. 0:16Cuomo is back here and there is news
9. 0:19today. Chris, we have some good news,
10. 0:20Diane. This letter is from the chairman
11. 0:22of the House Judiciary Committee. It is
12. 0:24hope for hope. It's a step in the right
13. 0:26direction. And I'll tell you more about
14. 0:27it in a second. But first, we have new
15. 0:29video and new information that shows how
16. 0:32Philip Gerrio, a man on probation deemed
17. 0:35high risk, was allowed to run free.

19. 0:42is video of Philip and Nancy Gerrio at
20. 0:44work secretly taping children. There's
21. 0:47two girls going to come out of that
22. 0:48sliding door on what side of me. During
23. 0:5111 years of federal supervision,
24. 0:53authorities remained oblivious to
25. 0:55Gerrito's preying on young women. And of
26. 0:57course, the incredible fact that JC
27. 1:00Duggard and her two daughters were in
28. 1:02Gerrio's backyard. According to
29. 1:04documents obtained by the Sacramento be
30. 1:06just 9 days after Gerrio abducted Ji, a
31. 1:09parole officer met with the felon. I
32. 1:12inspected residents. Nothing out of the
33. 1:14ordinary. And according to a
34. 1:16confidential federal report, mental
35. 1:18health experts also missed what should
36. 1:20have been obvious. After a 1997
37. 1:23evaluation, his psychiatrist stated his
38. 1:25prognosis is excellent. I do not suspect
39. 1:28he will ever be at risk for violence.
40. 1:31Okay, in this room here. And poor
41. 1:34supervision extended to state parole
42. 1:36officers as well, who visited Gerrio's
43. 1:38home 60 times without finding Ji and her
44. 1:41daughters. Well, he's an arrogant little

75. 2:47good news. We've been trying to get
76. 2:48answers. People were giving us the
77. 2:49runaround. Didn't want to step up. So,
78. 2:51Lamar Smith, representative out of
79. 2:53Texas, Republican, the chairman. He
80. 2:54sends us a letter. He says, "We're going
81. 2:57to far it out the bureaucracy for you.
82. 2:59We're going to send it to the right
83. 3:00people. We're sending your letter. We're
84. 3:02going to make them answer your
85. 3:03questions." And he is demanding
86. 3:05information about policies in place to
87. 3:07make sure there is not another Gerrito.
88. 3:10This is good news. A team is coming
