3. 0:19chief correspondent for Inside Edition
4. 0:20sitting in for Jane tonight
5. 0:22we lead with a story that is nothing
6. 0:24short of shocking and amazing the return
7. 0:27of Jaycee Dugard 18 years ago this
8. 0:30beautiful 11 year old girl was abducted
9. 0:32on her way to a bus stop near her South
10. 0:34Lake Tahoe Tahoe California home
11. 0:37jacy's stepfather watched helplessly as
12. 0:40a man and a woman drove up then snatched
13. 0:41her but yesterday afternoon a woman
14. 0:44claiming to be JC appeared as a police
15. 0:46station reportedly with her captors some
16. 0:49200 miles away
17. 0:50Lisbon Dugard was found alive in Antioch
18. 0:55she was fine alive in Antioch just to
19. 1:00remind you just a little bit she was
20. 1:01kidnapped in June of 1991 she was taken
21. 1:04off the street in front of her house as
22. 1:06you all know there was nothing then nor
23. 1:08is there anything now to indicate that
24. 1:09this was anything other than a stranger
25. 1:11abduction of an 11 year old amazing
26. 1:15story fast breaking developments in a
27. 1:16case that is cold for almost two decades
28. 1:19just hours ago cops raided a home in the
29. 1:21same county where JC turned up they
30. 1:23arrested a 58 year old sex offender and
31. 1:26his wife the man Philip
32. 1:30kidnapping rape lewd acts with a minor
33. 1:32and sexual penetration his wife Nancy
34. 1:35arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and
35. 1:38kidnapping both of them are in jail
36. 1:40being held on a million dollars bail
37. 1:41there's a lot to discuss we'll be taking
38. 1:43your calls but first straight to my
39. 1:45panel smart mother of Elizabeth spark
40. 1:48she too was abducted and thankfully
41. 1:50rescued

50. 2:09raided earlier today Dan bring us up
51. 2:10today what's the latest on those two
52. 2:12suspects well first of all Jim you're
53. 2:16right I'm in Antioch and I can tell you
54. 2:17that authorities including the FBI are
55. 2:19still inside the house going through all
56. 2:22the evidence we are told that a lot of
57. 2:25that evidence in the backyard that is
58. 2:27apparently where the young woman the
59. 2:30victim in this case had been living
60. 2:32where she was held captive along with
61. 2:34her two children just a short time ago
62. 2:36the authorities in El Dorado County
63. 2:39announced that the two women two young
64. 2:42children in this case were in fact
65. 2:45fathered by the suspect every new detail
66. 2:48in this case is so chilling so Jim
67. 2:53bottom line we are told that two
68. 2:55suspects in custody Phillip Garrido or
69. 3:00Guarino and honestly I've heard the
70. 3:01pronunciation both ways and his wife
71. 3:03Nancy Derrida or ggarrido charged with
72. 3:07with many things including kidnapping
73. 3:09conspiracy mr. Guerra note charged with
74. 3:13sex with a minor
75. 3:14among many other charges again
76. 3:17authorities still at this house we can
77. 3:20tell you that this all came to light you
78. 3:23know recently when officers on the
79. 3:26campus of UC Cal Berkeley saw mr.
80. 3:29Gerardo acting suspiciously eventually
81. 3:31his parole agent was brought into play
82. 3:34and and this is where it gets really
83. 3:36strange the
84. 3:37suspect in this case Jared Oh coming to
85. 3:39that meeting with the parole agent in
86. 3:42this case and her two children
87. 3:44eventually it was determined that the
88. 3:47three people with them were connected
89. 3:49the victim and the children so obviously
90. 3:52so strange and still trying to get some
91. 3:55more details Jim thank you Dan as Dan
92. 3:57just mentioned minutes ago the sheriff
93. 3:59in El Dorado County held a news
94. 4:01conference about JC's return take a
95. 4:02listen to more about this troubling
96. 4:04story the two minor children turn out to
97. 4:08be children of JC and the male suspect
98. 4:10Garrett oh they along with Nancy Garrett
99. 4:12oh we're living together at the
100. 4:13residence in Antioch since the original
101. 4:15kidnapping the search of the residence
102. 4:17revealed a hidden backyard with any
103. 4:19backyard the hidden backyard had sheds
104. 4:21tents and outbuildings where JC and the
105. 4:24girls spent most of their lives
106. 4:26as smart is joining us he's Elizabeth
107. 4:29smarts bed I'm sure that there are so
108. 4:32many questions so many people have right
109. 4:33now but obviously the first thing that
110. 4:35as a parent you feel has got to be
111. 4:37relief what give us some insight into
112. 4:40what this family is going through right
113. 4:41now well I think during this long period
114. 4:44of time this family has been living
115. 4:46through the worst nightmare possible I
116. 4:49mean to me it's the one of the worst
117. 4:52things that could happen in life and to
118. 4:55have it's like your life comes to a
119. 4:58standstill stopped and to have them
120. 5:01reconnect again together it's like the
121. 5:05most euphoric feeling that you could
122. 5:07ever have and it's so wonderful and I
123. 5:10hope and pray that they you know just
124. 5:12have a time to get together and
125. 5:14questions can be answered later on law
126. 5:17enforcement doesn't need to find out
127. 5:18every detail right now this is now we're
128. 5:24hearing complicated by the fact that
129. 5:26that this young girl who was abducted
130. 5:28apparently has two children now with her
131. 5:32abductor so that that certainly makes
132. 5:34this a tremendous nightmare for for this
133. 5:38family absolutely there's there's no
134. 5:40question there are issues and problems
135. 5:42to work through but I think that the
136. 5:44most important thing is that JC knows
137. 5:47that you know she
138. 5:49have to live as she has been living in
139. 5:52captivity and that she has people that
140. 5:56love her and do not judge her nobody
141. 5:59knows what kind of a nightmare she is
142. 6:01lived through which you know the
143. 6:03stranger against the the worse it sounds
144. 6:06but but having compassion and
145. 6:09understanding for her and not trying to
146. 6:11judge her why didn't you do this or do
147. 6:14that why didn't you get away you know I
148. 6:17think that those you know those things
149. 6:18are you know I've watched in the past
150. 6:22where people have just tried to you know
151. 6:24place blame and it revitalizes these
152. 6:27people over and over and over again and
153. 6:29yes the public may want to know but you
154. 6:32know the most important thing is that
155. 6:34she has the support and the help in the
156. 6:37love that she needs to get through this
157. 6:40next next time I mean I can't imagine
158. 6:43what she's going through with with two
159. 6:45children and in the difficulties of all
160. 6:48of the issues there but you know to know
161. 6:51that it is over with that she can move
162. 6:54on with her life and do as she chooses
163. 6:57rather than doing as her victimizer has
164. 7:02chosen to do with her for these past 18
165. 7:05years it's got to be a huge relief a
166. 7:08Jennifer Martin clinical psychologist we
167. 7:10heard and smart talking about removing
168. 7:12guilt from the equation goes back to the
169. 7:14child but if you're the stepfather and
170. 7:16you witnessed the abduction for years
171. 7:19this poor man's been dealing with the
172. 7:20guilt that he's had I'm not being able
173. 7:22to save his daughter so well tell us
174. 7:25about the family dynamic there it's got
175. 7:27to be really tough I mean I think he's
176. 7:29been living with this guilt he hadn't
177. 7:30been able to stop it there was no news
178. 7:32on where she was so now the amount of
179. 7:34relief but there's still this is going
180. 7:36to be sense of guilt for him over time
181. 7:37as he comes out what happened as we
182. 7:40learn more of the details as he learns

184. 7:42he's gonna have you know it's almost
185. 7:43survivor's guilt he stayed behind them
186. 7:46couldn't help her and then she went
187. 7:47through this horrible thing and I think
188. 7:49we have to remember she is the victim
189. 7:51her children are the victim
190. 7:52and fear is a powerful emotion it keeps
191. 7:54you rooted where you are and we don't
192. 7:56know how much of that plane how fearful
193. 7:58she was even to try and get out and the
194. 8:00story will unfold we have to allow her
195. 8:02to have that time to do that and as she
196. 8:04does she can reforge these bonds with
197. 8:06people she hasn't seen in 18 years it's
198. 8:07gonna take that time as I mentioned
199. 8:09Jacey stepfather Carl probin watched as
200. 8:12his then eleven year old stepdaughter
201. 8:14was abducted back in 1991 listen watch
202. 8:19the car go up the hill and I saw my
203. 8:22daughter making the curve up there also
204. 8:24in the car at dart across the road cut
205. 8:26her off
206. 8:27I thought door open I judge my bike I
207. 8:30heard her scream I pedaled I realize I
208. 8:32couldn't catch him in time so I came
209. 8:34back down call 9-1-1 Jennifer just
210. 8:38quickly we've got about 20 seconds till
211. 8:40the break but what is it like for
212. 8:41somebody to witness this event you talk
213. 8:43about survivor's guilt but that's got a
214. 8:45linger and be so attached Mosley it's
215. 8:47got it just States stays with you and he
216. 8:50has so relived that moment over and over
217. 8:52and over again in the amount of relief
218. 8:53he had must have now is insurmountable
219. 8:56okay much more on this incredible story
220. 8:58and event we're going to get to our two
221. 8:59guests we haven't spoken to yet we're
