- 0:01-You're a stud. You're a stud. Welcome back to the show.
- 0:03Always great to see you. -Thank you.
- 0:06-Last time you were here, we were talking about
- 0:07the final episode of "Stranger Things."
- 0:09You famously played Vecna. -I did.
- 0:12-And do fans still come up to you and ask you all questions?
- 0:16-They do. -We got in trouble last time
- 0:19because you remember I did that little video
- 0:21where we were sort of doing the exercise routine?
- 0:24-Yes. -As Vecna.
- 0:25There was this thing about conformity-gate
- 0:27where they thought there was going to be a ninth episode
- 0:29of "Stranger Things." -That's correct.
- 0:30-They took that as confirmation
- 0:32that there was going to be a ninth episode.
- 0:34I'm sorry, everyone. -I apologize.
- 0:37-Forgive us. -That was our fault.
- 0:38I apologize. No way. -Yeah way.
- 0:41But, you know, a lot of people have asked a lot of questions,
- 0:44and, um, I've come here today with a promise that I have --
- 0:49I need to keep. -Oh, yeah.
- 0:51-My dad got really sick about four years ago,
- 0:53and I went to the hospital that looked after him
- 0:56about two weeks ago and met with the staff
- 0:59who looked after him, who are amazing.
- 1:01Shout-out to you guys. Thank you so much.
- 1:03You're incredible.
- 1:04[ Cheers and applause ]
- 1:06I also got to meet with some patients, as well,
- 1:08some young patients.
- 1:10And I met a young person called Grace.
- 1:12And I said, "Grace, do you have any questions?"
- 1:13And Grace said, "Yes, I do have a question for you.
- 1:15You've been on 'Jimmy Fallon,'"
- 1:17and I said, "I have. I've been on 'Jimmy Fallon' two times,
- 1:19and I'm actually going back for a third time in October."
- 1:21And she said, "What does Jimmy Fallon smell like?"
- 1:24[ Laughter ]
- 1:26[ Drumroll ]
- 1:28So I'm here today to answer the question for Grace.
- 1:32Grace, this is for you. If you don't mind, Jimmy,
- 1:34I didn't know what to say because I'm always a bit nervous
- 1:36when I come on the show.
- 1:37So, if you don't mind, I'd like to give you a sniff,
- 1:40and then we can tell Grace what you smell like.
- 1:43[ Cheers and applause ]
- 1:45Would that be okay? -Yeah. I mean,
- 1:46yeah, absolutely. -Amazing. Thank you so much.
- 1:49[ Sniffing ]
- 1:50[ Cheers and applause ]
- 1:53[ Laughing ]
- 1:55-What...? -Well...
- 1:57[ Laughter ]
- 1:59In the spirit of the season, you smell like fall.
- 2:03-I do? -You do. You smell like --
- 2:04-Like, an autumnal... -Sort of an autumnal,
- 2:07uh, overtones with, um -- with -- with notes
- 2:10of pumpkin spice latte.
- 2:12[ Laughter and applause ]
- 2:15-Yeah, that's right.
- 2:16People throw them at me all day when I walk to work.
- 2:19[ Laughter ] They throw pumpkin spice lattes.
- 2:21Do I -- do I have, like, a nutmeg-y cinnamon vibe?
- 2:24-Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like sort of wholesome and warm.
- 2:26-I don't really -- I don't wear anything or do any, uh,
- 2:30colognes or any of that stuff or perfumes or anything.
- 2:32-Natural musk. Lucky you.
- 2:34[ Laughter ]
- 2:38-"Natural musk." That's correct.
- 2:41You smell amazing, by the way.
- 2:43-Thank you. It's fatigue and nicotine.
- 2:46[ Laughter ]
- 2:49-Oh, my God.
- 2:50[ Laughs ]
- 2:52That's my favorite brand. Uh, I...
- 2:54[ Laughter ]
- 2:55I was going to get into some things
- 2:57because I know that you're very musical,
- 2:59and you learned a lot of instruments as you were a kid.
- 3:01Were your parents musical? -Yeah.
- 3:03My mom works in the music industry.
- 3:05My dad has got zero musical talent.
- 3:08Um, but my brother and I were very musical growing up.
- 3:11I learnt violin when I was like 4 or 3,
- 3:14learnt via Suzuki method, which is you learn by ear.
- 3:17-By ear. -Yeah, exactly.
- 3:18Which I'm so grateful for.
- 3:20And then, I played the trumpet,
- 3:22the French horn, and the trombone.
- 3:25Uh... -Wow.
- 3:26-Yeah. My lips are quite large,
- 3:28so I just kept... [ Laughter ]
- 3:30I kept going up in mouthpiece size.
- 3:32[ Laughter ]
- 3:34And then, I wanted to -- and then, I wanted to be, like--
- 3:37you know, I wanted to play rock music and play the drums
- 3:39and play the guitar, and my parents said to me --
- 3:41I begged them for lessons, and my parents said,
- 3:44you know, "You teach yourself.
- 3:46The best people we work with are people who are self-taught."
- 3:49So I bought my neighbor's really bad Pearl drum kit,
- 3:53set that up in my garage,
- 3:55and just made absolute trash, hell noise.
- 3:58Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 4:00-That's rock and roll. That's the way to do it.
- 4:02[ Cheers and applause ]
- 4:03Because I saw a photo of you,
- 4:06uh, and I just wanted to show this,
- 4:08because it was you DJ'ing at San Diego Comic-Con.
- 4:12And, uh... [ Cheers and applause ]
- 4:14I didn't know you could do that.
- 4:16I was like, "I know he's musical, but does he...?"
- 4:18You know how to DJ? -Apparently so.
- 4:20-Wow. -Apparently so.
- 4:22-Really? -I mean, we used to --
- 4:24When I was like 18, there was a big music scene in London,
- 4:27and we used to -- There still is,
- 4:29but this was at the time it was sort of like indie music,
- 4:30and we used to DJ a lot.
- 4:32And then, Amazon called me and said, "Would you like to DJ?"
- 4:35And people I worked with went, "We're assuming this is a no,"
- 4:38and I went, "No, this is a definite yes.
- 4:40This sounds like chaos."
- 4:41But it's been so long that I didn't realize
- 4:43that now we have to use, like, USB sticks.
- 4:45I was like, "Is it gonna be a CD or am I bringing vinyl?"
- 4:48They were like, "You can bring your little USB-C stick."
- 4:50So, yeah, it was so --
- 4:51-What do you come up with? Playlists?
- 4:53I mean, I'm so lost when I see --
- 4:54Questlove's a great DJ, but I get lost,
- 4:57and I wouldn't know what to do.
- 4:58I would just put on my playlist and walk away.
- 5:01[ Laughter ] And go, "Enjoy."
- 5:03Which is maybe what he does, you know?
- 5:05[ Laughter ]
- 5:07-I just sort of faked it for most of it.
- 5:08I'm, like, just there pretending to do things.
- 5:10No, but I -- -But do you get two playlists,
- 5:12I'm assuming, and then you go from one song to the other one?
- 5:15-Yeah. -Same BPMs and stuff?
- 5:16-Well, you try, you try.
- 5:18I mean, like, those who are good at it can do that.
- 5:20I'm, you know, just a guy
- 5:22that sort of just pushes the fader to one side and...
- 5:23-You play this song, then that song.
- 5:25But you have a good mix. -I try to, I try to.
- 5:27I try to sit down and think about it, yeah.
- 5:29-Next time, I want you to come on
- 5:30and maybe do a little DJ'ing for us.
- 5:32-You know I keep my promises. I'm keen.
- 5:33-Yeah, right? You're good. -I'm keen, I'm keen.
- 5:35[ Cheers and applause ]
- 5:38So, you go to Comic-Con. Everyone's like,
- 5:40"That's -- Vecna is here from 'Stranger Things,'"
- 5:42but you're like, "No, even bigger now.
- 5:44I'm joining 'Lord of the Rings.'"
- 5:45Are you kidding me? "I'm in 'The Rings of Power.'"
- 5:48Look at this.
- 5:50Celeborn, the elf.
- 5:52[ Cheers and applause ]
- 5:53Celeborn!
- 5:56You went from the most terrifying monster in existence
- 6:00to the most coolest, nicest,
- 6:03good-looking elf in "Lord of the Rings."
- 6:07Your character -- You've called it a loverboy.
- 6:09-Yeah, I did. Yeah. Yeah, he's so -- he's lovely.
- 6:12I mean, you know, he's -- he's Galadriel's husband.
- 6:15Galadriel, as we all know, is, you know,
- 6:17famously played by Cate Blanchett --
- 6:18in our show, played by Morfydd Clark,
- 6:20who is amazing and wonderful.
- 6:23I've been sort of in prison for the last two seasons.
- 6:27Um, and, uh, she thinks that I'm dead.
- 6:30And so I've sort of reappeared, and I'm like,
- 6:32"Hey, I'm back. How are you doing?"
- 6:34-Yeah, yeah. "I'm back. How are you doing?"
- 6:36-"What's going on?"
- 6:38-But you have the same visual effect person -- effects person
- 6:41that did your makeup on "Stranger Things," as Vecna.
- 6:44-Yeah. Barrie Gower, who is amazing. Yeah.
- 6:46-Must be fun. -It's amazing. It's incredible.
- 6:48I mean, let's be honest, like Vecna, incredible, awesome.
- 6:52Did take a long time to put on -- about 7 1/2 hours.
- 6:55[ Audience "Oohs" ]
- 6:57Thank you very much. -Yeah.
- 6:58[ Laughter ] I couldn't even imagine that
- 7:01and then acting on top of that, by the way.
- 7:03So, well done, by the way. -Thank you.
- 7:04-You deserve any award, every flower you can get.
- 7:07-Thank you. -You are phenomenal.
- 7:09-Thank you. That is so kind. -Even without the makeup,
- 7:11you as Vecna, you were phenomenal.
- 7:12-Thank you. -But you told me,
- 7:14"I actually travel with -- uh, with some prosthetics."
- 7:17-I do, I do, and I did --
- 7:19I did bring them especially for you this time, as well.
- 7:23-You're the best. -So, funny enough,
- 7:25we're on tour, at the moment, for "Rings of Power," as well,
- 7:28and we were just in Mexico City. We flew in this morning.
- 7:31And upon arriving in Mexico City,
- 7:33my bags got searched, and I could tell --
- 7:37that when I sort of rocked up, I could tell
- 7:38that the person searching my bag was a fan
- 7:40because they went, "Vecna, right?"
- 7:42And I was like... [ Laughter ]
- 7:44"Jamie, but, yeah, Vecna." [ Laughter ]
- 7:46And I was like, "I actually have, in my bag,
- 7:49some prosthetic pieces,
- 7:50one of which is the hand of Vecna and some ears
- 7:53from this 'Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power' show.
- 7:56Would you like to see them?"
- 7:57And she was elated. And I tell you what,
- 7:59it was the quickest bag search I've ever had.
- 8:00So thank you so much. -Yeah. Good job.
- 8:02-But I brought them with me, and I thought it would be fun
- 8:04if maybe I could show you them? -Yes, let's see them right now.
- 8:07-Amazing. -This is amazing.
- 8:09[ Cheers and applause ]
- 8:14-So, here's the hand. Here's Vecna's hand.
- 8:16-That's the real Vecna hand?
- 8:18-That is the -- that is the real Vecna hand.
- 8:20Probably one of maybe a few in existence.
- 8:24And funny enough,
- 8:26all of these pieces will eventually just disintegrate.
- 8:29They're made of foam latex.
- 8:30So, you know, they -- -They won't last.
- 8:31-They won't last. -No matter what you do to them.
- 8:33-Exactly. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, all that good stuff.
- 8:36-Do you mind? Can I -- -Please, please, have a go.
- 8:38Fill your boots. -Wow.
- 8:41It feels so real. I can't even tell you.
- 8:44I mean, whatever this real would feel like,
- 8:46but it feels like... [ Laughter ]
- 8:47It feels like a hand.
- 8:49Feels like it has a zipper.
- 8:50You have a zipper here on the side?
- 8:51-Yeah, a little zipper to make it easy to get in and out of.
- 8:54And it's not always that, um...
- 8:57uh, flaccid?
- 8:59Uh... [ Laughter
- 9:01I it has a -- -It's more erect?
- 9:03[ Laughter ] -Yeah, it's firmer, firmer.
- 9:05-Firmer, yes. -Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:07There's a mechanical piece inside it that I normally wear.
- 9:10-You got to do what you got to do sometimes, you know?
- 9:12[ Laughter ]
- 9:14The technology has come a long way.
- 9:17And whenever -- If you have any problems,
- 9:18it's not embarrassing.
- 9:19You can just talk to your doctor, and...
- 9:21[ Laughter ]
- 9:22If your Vecna hand --
- 9:25if your Vecna hand stays up for more than five hours...
- 9:28[ Laughter ]
- 9:30...you should call your doctor. And then --
- 9:32-"If you, too, suffer with flaccid Vecna..."
- 9:33[ Laughter ]
- 9:35-That's amazing. -Yeah.
- 9:36And then, what are these?
- 9:37-And these are ears from the actual show.
- 9:40So, these are -- I mean, here, please, feel free.
- 9:43Take them out.
- 9:45These are Celeborn's ears from the show.
- 9:46I tend to steal things from movie sets.
- 9:49And these are the actual ears. So they are --
- 9:52They take a scan of our ears,
- 9:54and then, from that, they build our own specific ears.
- 9:57And that is Barrie Gower and the BGFX team,
- 10:00who we adore and love.
- 10:01So thank you so much, Barrie.
- 10:03-Would you mind wearing...? -I would love to.
- 10:04[ Cheers and applause ]
- 10:07-Do you want me to help you? -Uh, maybe.
- 10:09I mean, it's kind of difficult
- 10:11'cause, normally, they're, like, glued on.
- 10:13So let's see if I can just --
- 10:14I might just have to kind of hold one.
- 10:16In fact, I'll tell you what.
- 10:17If I hold one on,
- 10:19do you mind slipping the hand of Vecna on the other
- 10:21so we can create some sort of terrifying monster?
- 10:23-This has never been done. -Would that be okay?
- 10:25-Yes, this is Vecna and "Lord of the Rings" together.
- 10:28-Amazing. -Never been done.
- 10:29-Okay, we'll call that in, Jimmy. That's fine, that's fine.
- 10:31[ Laughter ]
- 10:33-"We'll call that in," yes.
- 10:35Am I -- -This is a travesty?
- 10:36-No, no.
- 10:38-This is what it's like at work, as well.
- 10:39That'll do. That'll do. There we go. That's lovely.
- 10:42-That is -- -Wait. I ended up with an ear.
- 10:44-That is sad. -No, it's not sad.
- 10:46That's...scary. [ Laughter ]
- 10:50No, that's all right. And you could hold the ear on.
- 10:52And then I'll hold it from this side.
- 10:53And then you get, like... -Fabulous.
- 10:55-...a screen grab. No, no, this is the ear?
- 10:57Yeah. I'll put this here. -Okay, great.
- 10:59-I'll hold this over there. -So here we are.
- 11:02-I'll hide. And there you go.
- 11:05[ Cheers and applause ]
- 11:10Thank you so much for doing that.
- 11:11-Thanks, Jimmy. [ Both laugh ]
- 11:13-What is -- What can we say is happening
- 11:16in this new "Rings of Power," "Lord of the Rings."
- 11:18-So, this season picks up five years after
- 11:21the end of season two. For those who know,
- 11:24Sauron is on this quest to craft the One Ring, you know?
- 11:29And this season, that is his sort of main drive, you know,
- 11:31to destroy Middle Earth.
- 11:33Um, Charlie Vickers, who is playing Sauron,
- 11:36is amazing This season --
- 11:38I've been a fan of the show for --
- 11:39you know, since season one.
- 11:41It's stepped up and up and up.
- 11:42And this season sort of takes us towards
- 11:44the sort of opening of those first movies
- 11:47that we know and love so well that came out sort of 2000-ish.
- 11:51-That's fantastic. I want to show a clip.
- 11:53Here's Jamie Campbell Bower in
- 11:55"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
- 11:57Take a look.
- 11:59-It isn't polite to stare.
- 12:02-I wasn't staring.
- 12:05-Then what were you doing?
- 12:09-Taking the air.
- 12:14It's strange...
- 12:16to make war in such a place, don't you think?
- 12:18-Stranger still to celebrate it.
- 12:23-Is that why you dance alone?
- 12:25-I wasn't dancing.
- 12:28I was sparring.
- 12:31-Don't you suppose everyone would be better with a sword
- 12:33if they sparred with somebody else?
- 12:36-Oh, I am splendid with the sword.
- 12:37-Well, as it turns out, I'm not so terrible a dancer.
- 12:40-Ooh! [ Cheers and applause ]
