Is This The BEST Budget Mic? (Fifine AM8) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00In this video, I'll be reviewing the
- 0:01Fine Fine AM8. Is it the best budget mic
- 0:04for gaming? Just a quick disclaimer,
- 0:07FineFine sent me this mic for free, but
- 0:09did not tell me what to say. Everything
- 0:11in this video I say is my own opinion.
- 0:14At 55 USD, the AM8 comes with the stand,
- 0:17a manual, a windscreen, a USBC cable,
- 0:21and of course, the mic. The first thing
- 0:23I noticed when unboxing is that the base
- 0:25is really hefty. I've seen a lot of
- 0:27lowcost mics that'll fall down even if
- 0:29you just tickle them, but the AM8's
- 0:31heavy bass makes this not a problem. The
- 0:34mic is also compatible with the boom
- 0:36arm, which I actually recommend because
- 0:37it would make it easier to talk directly
- 0:39into the mic, although it's not really
- 0:41necessary as the stand it comes with is
- 0:43perfectly fine. Fine. The mic screws
- 0:46onto the base pretty far in, so there's
- 0:48no worries of it coming off. This part
- 0:50that holds the mic is made of metal and
- 0:52the rest of the mic is made with
- 0:53plastic. The quality of the plastic is
- 0:55all right. It feels smooth to the touch,
- 0:58but it also feels a little bit cheap.
- 1:00It's what you get for the money you
- 1:01paid, but realistically, you rarely
- 1:03touch your mic anyway, so it's not
- 1:05really a big problem that should be a
- 1:07dealbreaker. However, I did notice that
- 1:09the windscreen actually picks up quite a
- 1:11bit of dust. Although, I think it's kind
- 1:12of hard to see through the camera, but
- 1:15again, that isn't really a big deal. The
- 1:18mic connects using USBC. It also has a
- 1:20USBA adapter attached in case your
- 1:23computer doesn't have USBC. You can also
- 1:25connect with XLR if that's what floats
- 1:27your boat. The bottom of the mic has a
- 1:29ring of RGB that you can customize with
- 1:31the sun button.
- 1:34The RGB is how you know it's only for
- 1:36real gamers.
- 1:38Most of the settings are static colors,
- 1:40but the default setting is a gradient
- 1:41that changes, and I think it's a
- 1:43tasteful accent.
- 1:45The mic also has a mute button that
- 1:47isn't actually a button. All you have to
- 1:49do is touch it. So, that's nice. And
- 1:52then on the back of the mic, or the
- 1:54front of the mic, I don't even know.
- 1:56Well, it has a volume knob and another
- 1:59volume knob. The second one controls how
- 2:01loud your headphones are because you can
- 2:03plug your headphones directly into the
- 2:04mic, so you can monitor yourself as you
- 2:06speak. Both volume knobs are smooth and
- 2:09feel really high quality, as in they
- 2:11don't feel flimsy or have a lot of play
- 2:12or anything like that. By the way, this
- 2:15is a dynamic microphone with a cardioid
- 2:17polar pattern, and it's intended for you
- 2:19to speak directly into the mic from the
- 2:21top. It comes with a nice thick
- 2:23windscreen, so all your possives get cut
- 2:25out. Watch this. Peter Piper picked a
- 2:27pick. Oh my god. Peter picked a pickup.
- 2:31[laughter]
- 2:32Peter Piper picked a pe of pickled
- 2:34peppers.
- 2:36Something worth noting is that this mic
- 2:37somehow picks up zero background noise,
- 2:40and I don't even have acoustic panels.
- 2:42Don't believe me? Here's a clip of the
- 2:44mic when I have my ceiling fan on.
- 2:51Because of this, it also cancels out
- 2:53most of your keyboard and mouse sounds,
- 2:54which is definitely a good thing if
- 2:56you're a gamer or even a YouTuber. For
- 2:58example, if you're in a Discord call or
- 3:00another game call, you probably don't
- 3:02want others to hear every one of your
- 3:03clicks.
- 3:08I'm talking directly into my mic right
- 3:10now. It's facing me away from my
- 3:12keyboard and mouse.
- 3:14Keep in mind this is what my setup looks
- 3:16like in this clip. So my mic is closer
- 3:18to my keyboard and mouse than it is to
- 3:19my face. So normally your keyboard and
- 3:22mouse would be even quieter if you put
- 3:23it somewhere else. For best results, put
- 3:25the mic somewhere closer to you or on a
- 3:27boom arm. Even better, if you want to
- 3:30record a keyboard and mouse ASMR video
- 3:32or something like that, pointing the mic
- 3:34down at your keyboard and mouse makes it
- 3:36perfectly audible.
- 3:40Yo yo yo. Hello. Hello. Hello. I'm
- 3:43talking at a normal volume right now,
- 3:45while my mic is pointed down at my
- 3:47keyboard and mouse. I'm not exactly a
- 3:49professional when it comes to mics, so
- 3:51it's really important to me that it
- 3:52sounds good right out of the box without
- 3:54any finicking.
- 3:56That's why this entire video is recorded
- 3:57on the AM8 with its factory settings.
- 4:00Knowing that, let's go over the mic's
- 4:01pros and cons with its default settings.
- 4:04Starting with the pros, the fine fine
- 4:06AMA comes with a very reliable stand.
- 4:08Good customization with the volume
- 4:10levels and adjustment of the tilt of the
- 4:12microphone. Touch sensitive buttons,
- 4:14which in my opinion are better than
- 4:16actual buttons, a very effective
- 4:18windcreen, very good sound clarity with
- 4:21no background noise picked up at all,
- 4:23USBC, a nice touch of RGB, and of
- 4:27course, the very affordable price point.
- 4:33The only two cons I could really think
- 4:35of that were relevant were that there's
- 4:37no boom arm and that the windscreen is
- 4:39not very dust resistant. Overall, I
- 4:42think there's a reason why the Fine Fine
- 4:43AM8 has 9,000 reviews on Amazon. It
- 4:46comes with almost every feature you
- 4:48could ask for and costs far less than
- 4:50the competition. It also comes in white
- 4:52and pink variants. So, the link is in
- 4:55the description to purchase it. Let me
- 4:57know in the comments what you guys think
- 4:58about it. Thanks for watching and thanks
- 5:01to Fine Fine for sending the mic to me.
