Is This a Battle Worth Fighting, or Should I Look for a New Job? — Transcript

- 0:00My VP is sleeping with my sales rep. We
- 0:02hired a new junior rep from college 5
- 0:04months ago.
- 0:06Since then, she's generated zero
- 0:07qualified meetings or sales. She has no
- 0:09experience and clearly isn't
- 0:10communicating to learning as she ignores
- 0:13advice given to her by me and the
- 0:16enablement manager.
- 0:17>> Let's talk about enablement.
- 0:18>> I've wanted her out of the company so we
- 0:20can get a more experienced rep, but my
- 0:21VP 45
- 0:23>> Uh-huh.
- 0:24>> always defends her saying the economy is
- 0:26tough and we need to create a culture of
- 0:27cultivating not hiring.
- 0:30Cultivating something.
- 0:31I saw them in a hotel bar and heard the
- 0:33VP bought tickets to an industry
- 0:34conference in Dubai where the two of
- 0:35them were going to do some prospecting.
- 0:38Is this a battle worth fighting or
- 0:39should I start looking for a new job?
- 0:40Wait.
- 0:41>> Wait, hold on.
- 0:44So, I guess this is a sales manager.
- 0:47VP, so probably the guy above him
- 0:49>> Yeah.
- 0:50>> is sleeping with someone below him.
- 0:52>> Yeah.
- 0:53>> And he's not the owner.
- 0:57>> I mean, I think that this plays out
- 0:58which is like their short-term long-term
- 1:00which is like
- 1:02unfortunately, if this is something that
- 1:03is very bothersome for you, which it
- 1:05sounds like it is, the fact that you
- 1:06would ask that question,
- 1:08just saying cuz some people don't care.
- 1:10Um
- 1:11this is kind of a losing battle because
- 1:14it doesn't seem like this is the type of
- 1:16place where they
- 1:18will make changes based on
- 1:20the situation.
- 1:22Uh
- 1:23so, it's like you have a couple options
- 1:24which is like one, you could go to the
- 1:25superior of the superior or HR
- 1:28um and say this is what's happening and
- 1:31I want this person out and this person
- 1:33doesn't want to which means you have by
- 1:35consequence created an enemy of the VP.
- 1:38The second option is you say, "Fuck it,
- 1:40I'm going to let this girl who's
- 1:41ineffective remain on the team and I'm
- 1:43going to ignore it and I'm going to keep
- 1:44doing my best um and keep working my way
- 1:46up in the company here."
- 1:48Those are really the two options you
- 1:49have. The third option is that you leave
- 1:52the company.
- 1:53>> I have door four then.
- 1:54>> Okay. Okay.
- 1:54>> Okay.
- 1:55>> Third option is you leave the company
- 1:57because you say, "Okay, well,
- 2:00I don't like how this goes and I don't
- 2:02want to deal with it. So, I want to go
- 2:04somewhere with a better culture."
- 2:05What's your fourth option?
- 2:06>> Door four.
- 2:08This is going to be a little little
- 2:09questionable.
- 2:11But,
- 2:11>> creepy?
- 2:12>> No.
- 2:13What?
- 2:13>> I don't know.
- 2:14>> No, I think you I think you can DM the
- 2:16CEO or the owner, whoever is the
- 2:18[snorts] person who owns the company
- 2:19who's above the VP.
- 2:21So, it's a bit
- 2:22um
- 2:23typically, if you do that, you say,
- 2:25"Please do not say this came from me."
- 2:27Like, you could try to protect your
- 2:28anonymity, but it's like, "Listen, I
- 2:29thought you would want to know that I'm
- 2:30trying to fire this rep and the person
- 2:32above me is blocking me and I'm pretty
- 2:33sure they're sleeping together and I
- 2:34think that's the reason why, which I
- 2:35don't think is in the best service of
- 2:36your business." As an owner of a
- 2:38business, I want to know if somebody
- 2:42who's one level down is blocking someone
- 2:43two levels down from doing their job.
- 2:45Right? And that person's you're like,
- 2:46"I'm concerned about my livelihood
- 2:48because this person is now affecting my
- 2:50metrics and I can't I've been robbed of
- 2:53the authority to make the decisions on
- 2:55my team, but I still have the
- 2:55responsibility of delivering these
- 2:56numbers. So, it's an authority
- 2:58responsibility mismatch and I feel like
- 2:59obligated morally to let you know.
- 3:02Please do not, you know, get me in
- 3:03trouble with the VP because I obviously
- 3:04want to maintain my standing here, but I
- 3:06thought I owed it to you uh to let you
- 3:08know that this was going on."
- 3:09>> Well, the reason I said HR is I figured
- 3:11the company's big enough that they have
- 3:12HR if they have this many levels was the
- 3:14first thought. The second thought is
- 3:15that if they do have HR, this is a
- 3:17sexual whatever investigation,
- 3:19unfortunately. So, they're going to have
- 3:20to investigate it and he's going to have
- 3:22to get pulled in.
- 3:24That's annoying.
- 3:25>> Yeesh.
- 3:27All right. If you like this video and
- 3:28you're a business owner who wants to
