- 0:01okay i want to make a simple
- 0:03video showing a way that you can verify
- 0:06that the earth is indeed round
- 0:08and i'm going to talk you through my
- 0:10reasoning here we go
- 0:12if you just looked at the northern
- 0:14hemisphere you can see there's not a
- 0:16whole lot of difference because
- 0:18the the flat earth
- 0:21model shows the northern hemisphere in
- 0:24the center and it's
- 0:25not very different but if you look at
- 0:27the southern hemisphere now these
- 0:29what's called the southern ocean which
- 0:30goes around antarctica
- 0:32now becomes this huge ring which
- 0:34encompasses all of what we call
- 0:36the northern hemisphere right here so it
- 0:39should be
- 0:40easy to find differences between
- 0:43places that are in the southern
- 0:44hemisphere and
- 0:46one way you can do that is with a by
- 0:49looking at a mercator map
- 0:51which stretches out things equally from
- 0:53the northern hemisphere in the southern
- 0:54hemisphere to represent
- 0:55a round globe on a flat surface
- 0:59but in a very different way than than
- 1:02a flat earth model
- 1:05the way i'm going to do that is by
- 1:06looking at two round the world trips
- 1:08one in the northern hemisphere going
- 1:11from shanghai
- 1:12to los angeles to new york city to dubai
- 1:15and back to shanghai
- 1:17versus around the world trip from sydney
- 1:20australia
- 1:21santiago chile sao paulo brazil
- 1:23johannesburg and then back to sydney
- 1:26and on the flat earth model it's pretty
- 1:29easy to tell that it's
- 1:30it would be a much much longer trip
- 1:32doing this in the southern hemisphere
- 1:34between these
- 1:34cities in red versus the
- 1:38much shorter trip in the northern
- 1:39hemisphere
- 1:42on the mercator projection map the map
- 1:44the trips look about
- 1:46equal where because they're both about
- 1:49the same distance from the equator and i
- 1:51tried to
- 1:51pick roots that would keep about the
- 1:53same distance from the equator
- 1:55so on a rounder model you expect the
- 1:56times to be about the same
- 1:59while in the flat earth model the
- 2:01southern hemisphere around the world
- 2:02trip should take a lot longer
- 2:05that's what it is you can you can check
- 2:07this yourself i used the
- 2:09website kayak and i mapped out
- 2:12uh all eight of these trips
- 2:15for the northern hemisphere and the four
- 2:17in the southern uh here example is
- 2:19sydney to santiago chile
- 2:22and going from sydney to santiago chile
- 2:26it's between 12 and a half hours and 13
- 2:29and a quarter hours so i kind of
- 2:30averaged them out
- 2:31and then i also looked at the reverse
- 2:33trip which would be from
- 2:35santiago to sydney that's longer because
- 2:37you're going against the
- 2:39the prevailing headwinds there and i
- 2:42mapped them all out
- 2:43and shanghai to los angeles los angeles
- 2:45jfk here we go
- 2:47um and the total for that trip would be
- 2:49about 40 hours and 58 minutes
- 2:52in the southern hemisphere which the
- 2:54flat earth model which says
- 2:55should take much much longer actually is
- 2:57a slightly less a little less than
- 2:59about an hour less so which makes no
- 3:02sense
- 3:03in a flat earth model so here are the
- 3:05times all written out
- 3:07if you want to pause this and take a
- 3:09look at those times
- 3:10and check them all you want if you'd
- 3:12like one
- 3:14just as an example if you just want to
- 3:15look at a couple from new york to dubai
- 3:19and sydney to santiago on this map it
- 3:22looks about right they look about the
- 3:24same
- 3:24distance and sure enough they should
- 3:26take about the same amount of time but
- 3:27on the flat earth model
- 3:29there's no way that the sydney de
- 3:31santiago trip
- 3:33should take just 10 minutes more than
- 3:35new york to dubai
- 3:38if you were to measure this out put your
- 3:39hand up to the screen and you'll see
- 3:41that it's actually twice as long the
- 3:42line the red one here um
- 3:46if you want to check something even
- 3:47easier from los angeles to sydney
- 3:49on a flat earth model should take much
- 3:52less than going from sydney to santiago
- 3:54right it looks like maybe seven hours
- 3:58on this map but in fact if you actually
- 4:02look up the trip it's actually a longer
- 4:04trip
- 4:05going from los angeles to sydney i
- 4:07average it out and it comes out to 14
- 4:09hours and 32
- 4:10going both directions and cut it in half
- 4:14so why on a flat earth model
- 4:17can you explain would it take longer to
- 4:19go from los angeles to sydney
- 4:21than it would take going from santiago
- 4:23chile
- 4:24to sydney and that's ignoring the fact
- 4:26that if you were to go on a flat earth
- 4:27model
- 4:28you would expect to have to go over
- 4:30north america unless you went way around
- 4:33and you would never go anywhere near for
- 4:35example
- 4:37new zealand which is off this map
- 4:40and that is the basics but if you want
- 4:43to just check
- 4:44if you look on google earth you can
- 4:45actually measure the distance between
- 4:47los angeles and sydney
- 4:48twelve thousand and fifty miles and
- 4:51sydney to santiago is
- 4:53eleven thousand three sixty two which
- 4:55explains why it's actually a shorter
- 4:56trip
