- 0:00is head cannon strong women as trans
- 0:01misogynistic. Let's talk about head
- 0:02cannoning
- 0:04strong women as trans is misogynistic
- 0:06because assigning trans identity to
- 0:07characters that are exceptionally
- 0:08strong, have high muscle mass, and or
- 0:10have dominant features inadvertently
- 0:11perpetuates the narrative that it's an
- 0:13inherently masculine feature, the likes
- 0:14of which theoretically strips these
- 0:15women of having diverse body types and
- 0:17physical prowess and fiction. But
- 0:18opposed to that, a lot of people defend
- 0:19these head cannons because they argue
- 0:20that their intentions are simply rooted
- 0:21in positive representation. For many
- 0:23fans, finding a beloved, powerful, or
- 0:24heroic character and then projecting
- 0:26that trans identity onto them is simply
- 0:28a way of finding empowerment in media,
- 0:29likes of which are important because
- 0:30historically trans women have been
- 0:31depicted in a negative light. Now, I'd
- 0:33like to preface this by saying that head
- 0:34cannon is simply one's personal
- 0:35imagination. But the reason why people
- 0:37are critical of others' imagination is
- 0:38primarily because it could theoretically
- 0:39perpetuate harmful narratives. This
- 0:41conflict generally arises when personal
- 0:42empowerment and the desire for positive
- 0:44trans representation inadvertently
- 0:45collides with the societal fight to
- 0:46allow cisgender women to be powerful
- 0:48without their womanhood being
- 0:49questioned. But I feel like something
- 0:50worth noting is that the conversation
- 0:51also reduces both cisgender and
- 0:52transgender identities to shallow
- 0:54physical markers. It reduces womanhood
- 0:55to traditional delicate femininity, and
- 0:57for trans fans, it can come across as
- 0:58isolating or insulting because it
- 1:00suggests that trans women can be
- 1:01physically identified by simply having a
- 1:02larger frame, ignoring the diversity of
- 1:04diverse [music] trans body types, the
- 1:05likes of which further stereotyping
- 1:07them. Nevertheless, I would consider
- 1:08these very nuanced and important
- 1:09conversations to have. But the
- 1:10villainization of one group just to
- 1:11perpetuate your own does nothing but
- 1:13suppress actual constructive
- 1:14conversation.
