  2. 0:05>> A couple weeks ago in my capsule tech
  3. 0:07setup video, I mentioned I wanted to
  4. 0:09make an updated iPad mini video because
  5. 0:11even though I have done that many times,
  6. 0:14it's been about 6 months or so and I do
  7. 0:16feel like I have some more takes on why
  8. 0:18this is the single best device to fit in
  9. 0:21a minimalist lifestyle, at least in my
  10. 0:23opinion.
  11. 0:24I'm going to talk about how it fits into
  12. 0:25my routine and my specific use cases and
  13. 0:28I'm hoping to at least give a little
  14. 0:29inspiration to those of you who
  15. 0:31commented on that video and told me that
  16. 0:33you do in fact have an iPad mini, but
  17. 0:35don't really know what to use it for.
  18. 0:36Here's why I think the iPad mini is the
  19. 0:38perfect device for a minimalist.
  20. 0:41But first, if you're new to my channel,
  21. 0:42thank you for stopping by. Here we talk
  22. 0:44about minimalism, frugal living, and
  23. 0:45tech and things of that nature. So, if
  24. 0:47that sounds good to you and you end up
  25. 0:49liking the video, be sure to like and
  26. 0:51please tell the subscribe button you'll
  27. 0:53represent them in a trial by combat, but
  28. 0:55then never show up.
  29. 0:57Let's get started. The first thing is it
  30. 0:59does mostly everything rather well.
  31. 1:02I feel like this is the best point to
  32. 1:03start out with because it really
  33. 1:05encapsulates why my iPad mini is in fact
  34. 1:08so useful for me. No, it's not the most
  35. 1:09powerful device to game on and no, it
  36. 1:11doesn't have the best camera out there,
  37. 1:13but it's still sort of a Swiss Army
  38. 1:15knife in my daily life because of the
  39. 1:17things it does excel at. Handling the
  40. 1:19things that I do pretty much every day
  41. 1:21like reading and responding to emails or
  42. 1:23having music or movies on while I'm
  43. 1:25sitting at my desk at home or at work
  44. 1:28and handling those things that I do on a
  45. 1:29more weekly or even monthly basis like
  46. 1:32writing or paying bills.
  47. 1:34I actually don't even think I made an
  48. 1:35update since this OS 26 came out. And
  49. 1:38admittedly, I actually kind of hated it
  50. 1:40at first, but it has grown on me and
  51. 1:42being able to completely resize the
  52. 1:44windows has been very convenient when I
  53. 1:46need to multitask. And although on
  54. 1:48paper, it's not the most powerful or
  55. 1:50state-of-the-art iPad, I would make the
  56. 1:52argument that for some of the reasons
  57. 1:54I'm going to talk about here in a
  58. 1:55second,
  59. 1:55>> [music]
  60. 1:56>> it really might be the most powerful in
  61. 1:58a use case or practicality sense.
  62. 2:01And to back that up is the next point on
  63. 2:03this list is it's pretty much the
  64. 2:05perfect size.
  65. 2:06Not too long ago in a video I talked
  66. 2:08about how it seems everything,
  67. 2:09especially tech and electronics, are
  68. 2:11just getting bigger with every release.
  69. 2:14And yes, that offers things like better
  70. 2:15batteries because they're bigger, but I
  71. 2:17have yet to see where that's been a
  72. 2:18really good thing for at least me
  73. 2:20personally. I have to make the very bold
  74. 2:22statement that I think the iPad Mini is
  75. 2:24the single best electronic device I've
  76. 2:26ever used as far as size and ergonomics
  77. 2:29go. It fits perfectly into my small bag
  78. 2:32and pretty much everywhere I've ever
  79. 2:33decided to keep it.
  80. 2:36And I don't know if this matters to
  81. 2:37anybody, but if being inconspicuous is a
  82. 2:39factor for you, this is where that small
  83. 2:41form factor can shine the most.
  84. 2:44If I had this thing in high school, I
  85. 2:45would have never gotten anything done. I
  86. 2:47still didn't get a lot done, but this
  87. 2:48would have just made it way worse. I
  88. 2:50would even go as far as to say is its
  89. 2:52size has influenced how much I actually
  90. 2:54use it because it's a huge reason why I
  91. 2:56bring it with me daily in the first
  92. 2:58place. Its size reinforces the idea that
  93. 3:01I don't need the biggest or most
  94. 3:02powerful option, just what fits my life.
  95. 3:05>> [snorts]
  96. 3:06>> It can replace multiple physical items.
  97. 3:09I don't think I'm as extreme as I once
  98. 3:11was when it just comes to owning as few
  99. 3:13things as humanly possible in order to
  100. 3:15feel like a minimalist. That being said,
  101. 3:18the iPad Mini can absolutely replace
  102. 3:20many physical things if I wanted to or
  103. 3:22just [music] needed it to. If I really
  104. 3:24felt that I need to, I could declutter
  105. 3:26the journals that I used to write,
  106. 3:28physical books to read, and my gaming
  107. 3:30device, and just use the iPad Mini for
  108. 3:32all these things, albeit with some
  109. 3:34compromise.
  110. 3:35I used to draw a lot in high school, and
  111. 3:37the iPad Mini helped me rediscover that
  112. 3:39love for drawing, and it just helped me
  113. 3:41not have to commit to buying any sort of
  114. 3:43supplies just to try it out to see if I
  115. 3:45even wanted to do it again. I mean, yes,
  116. 3:47I do have the Apple Pencil, but that
  117. 3:49serves some other purposes as well.
  118. 3:52More so in the early stages of
  119. 3:53minimalism when I was more focused on
  120. 3:55getting down to the lowest number of
  121. 3:57items, I was just able to centralize
  122. 3:59several hobbies and methods of
  123. 4:00productivity into this one small device.
  124. 4:03Not to mention, there are plenty of ways
  125. 4:04to get free books, [music] movies,
  126. 4:06shows, and games on here completely for
  127. 4:08free. So, in a way, this could replace a
  128. 4:10lot of physical media across a lot of
  129. 4:12categories as well. Unless you're
  130. 4:14someone who likes physical media.
  131. 4:15Overall, in regards to living a
  132. 4:16minimalist lifestyle, this can really
  133. 4:18reduce as many things [music] in my
  134. 4:20daily life as I allow it.
  135. 4:25Perfect for creativity with low
  136. 4:27commitment.
  137. 4:29I just talked about how the iPad Mini
  138. 4:30made me fall in love with drawing again,
  139. 4:32but specifically as a minimalist, it
  140. 4:34offers me the ability to sketch,
  141. 4:36animate, and even edit pictures and
  142. 4:37videos at a pretty intermediate level
  143. 4:40without having to commit to buying any
  144. 4:42additional products.
  145. 4:44I don't personally edit videos here, but
  146. 4:45you can literally just record videos
  147. 4:48straight from the iPad's camera and
  148. 4:50import it to iMovie, which is a free app
  149. 4:52on here, and edit decent videos that
  150. 4:55way. Editing pictures here is super
  151. 4:57convenient because it feels about the
  152. 4:59size of a photo you would have printed
  153. 5:01and hanging on the wall anyways.
  154. 5:03And where it shines the absolute
  155. 5:05brightest, in my opinion, is when you
  156. 5:07take advantage of Procreate. Genuinely
  157. 5:09the best $10 I've ever spent in my
  158. 5:11entire life. And I'll make my case known
  159. 5:14right now in case I ever work with
  160. 5:15Procreate. It is the single best iPad
  161. 5:18app. I usually just make thumbnails on
  162. 5:20here by adding text [music] and messing
  163. 5:22around with colors. But I've seen people
  164. 5:24who make full animated cartoons here.
  165. 5:26And while Procreate's one of the many
  166. 5:27apps you can use to sketch and draw,
  167. 5:29there are plenty of other creative apps
  168. 5:31where you can make things like comic
  169. 5:32strips and cartoons. [music]
  170. 5:34I think a really popular one is called
  171. 5:35Toon Squid. To me, Regular Show is one
  172. 5:37of the best cartoons ever made and I
  173. 5:40wanted to make a cartoon like that one
  174. 5:41day. So, I was looking into apps.
  175. 5:43Essentially, I think no matter what
  176. 5:45level of artist you are, and especially
  177. 5:47if you're a beginner, this at the very
  178. 5:49least aligns with minimalist
  179. 5:50decision-making [music] because if you
  180. 5:52want to eventually commit and invest
  181. 5:54into a hobby, you can at least try it a
  182. 5:56little bit here on this iPad.
  183. 5:58And it means that decision will just be
  184. 6:00a little bit more intentional now.
  185. 6:03It lowers the pressure to upgrade.
  186. 6:06Now, I know this video praising the iPad
  187. 6:07Mini in itself can create a sense of
  188. 6:10FOMO or fear of missing out, but I
  189. 6:12really didn't even think about this up
  190. 6:13until 4 years of owning this iPad. And
  191. 6:16being someone who used to heavily fall
  192. 6:18for the hype of new products, I never
  193. 6:20felt the need to upgrade or replace this
  194. 6:22iPad because of how versatile and
  195. 6:24capable it is. Of course, resisting the
  196. 6:26urge to upgrade tech is more of a case
  197. 6:28of willpower and intentionality, but it
  198. 6:31absolutely helps when what you already
  199. 6:32have does everything you need it to.
  200. 6:35Ultimately, living as a minimalist just
  201. 6:37means there's more intention behind
  202. 6:38these purchasing decisions, especially
  203. 6:40expensive ones like electronics. And the
  204. 6:42purchases that I do make, well, I just
  205. 6:45don't want to be able to see the end of
  206. 6:46ownership with them, at least anywhere
  207. 6:48in the near future. In the end, I simply
  208. 6:50think everyone's version of minimalism
  209. 6:52will look vastly different. And if there
  210. 6:55ever was a point where minimalism was a
  211. 6:57contest about getting to as few number
  212. 7:00of items as possible, well, we're just
  213. 7:02way past that, and I think it's evolved
  214. 7:03quite a bit.
  215. 7:05These are just a few of the reasons why
  216. 7:06I think iPad Mini is still perfect for a
  217. 7:09minimalist or even someone who just
  218. 7:11wants to at least minimize their tech
  219. 7:13space. I hope you found some value in
  220. 7:14the things that I talked about here
  221. 7:16today. Let me know some of your specific
  222. 7:17iPad Mini use cases if you have any.
  223. 7:20Anyways, as always, I appreciate the
  224. 7:22time you spend here, and I appreciate
  225. 7:23you watching. If you did like this video
