Invite the Holy Spirit to Guide Your Day ~ Morning Prayer — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:02Today,
- 0:03let's first read from the book of John
- 0:0514
- 0:06verses 16 to 17.
- 0:09And then we will pray together.
- 0:11It says,
- 0:12"And I will pray the Father, and he will
- 0:15give you another helper,
- 0:17that he may abide with you forever,
- 0:19the Spirit of truth,
- 0:21whom the world cannot receive,
- 0:23because it neither sees him nor knows
- 0:26him.
- 0:27But you know him,
- 0:29for he dwells with you and will be in
- 0:31you."
- 0:33When Jesus was leaving for heaven,
- 0:35when his work on earth was done,
- 0:38he spoke in many passages of scripture,
- 0:40such as this,
- 0:42about another helper that he will give
- 0:44unto us.
- 0:47Romans 8 verse 14 tells us that as many
- 0:50as are led by the Spirit.
- 0:52John 16 verse 7 says,
- 0:55"I will send him to you."
- 0:58John 14
- 1:00verse 26 particularly calls him the
- 1:03helper who will teach us all things.
- 1:07The point is,
- 1:09the greatest advantage of any believer
- 1:11is the Holy Spirit,
- 1:13>> [music]
- 1:13>> whom Jesus has sent to guide us as
- 1:15believers.
- 1:16But,
- 1:18does he guide you?
- 1:20Do you let him lead?
- 1:22The Christian life is not ordinary life.
- 1:25It is a spirit-led life.
- 1:28In fact, [music]
- 1:29one of the ways by which the Bible
- 1:31testifies that we are sons of God is
- 1:34being led by the Spirit of God.
- 1:37Who then is the Holy Spirit exactly?
- 1:42The Holy Spirit is the third person of
- 1:44the Trinity.
- 1:45Scripture tells us in many chapters and
- 1:47verses how he walked with the men of
- 1:50old, and even according to the testimony
- 1:52of Jesus,
- 1:54the Holy Spirit was with him.
- 1:57Starting from the Old Testament, Genesis
- 1:591 verse 2 says,
- 2:02"The earth was without form and void,
- 2:05and darkness was on the face of the
- 2:07deep.
- 2:09And the Spirit of God was hovering over
- 2:11the face of the waters."
- 2:15We see King David cry out in the book of
- 2:17Psalm 51
- 2:19verse 11 saying,
- 2:20"Cast me not away from thy presence,
- 2:23and take not thy Holy Spirit from me."
- 2:28The prophet Isaiah spoke of the Spirit
- 2:30of the Lord.
- 2:31And it was spoken of our Lord Jesus
- 2:33Christ in the book of Matthew 4 verse 1.
- 2:37Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into
- 2:39the wilderness to be tempted by the
- 2:42devil.
- 2:43In Luke 4 verse 18,
- 2:46Jesus also says,
- 2:48"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
- 2:50because he has anointed me to proclaim
- 2:52good news to the poor.
- 2:54He has sent me to proclaim freedom for
- 2:56the prisoners,
- 2:57and recovery of sight for the blind, to
- 3:00set the oppressed free."
- 3:03The apostles spoke of the Holy Spirit as
- 3:05well.
- 3:06And we have record after record of the
- 3:08happenings at Pentecost,
- 3:10and how he was a constant partner
- 3:12in the life and ministry of the apostle,
- 3:15just as he was in the life of Jesus.
- 3:18He was a daily partner
- 3:20and guide to them.
- 3:22And that's the word,
- 3:24partner.
- 3:27The Holy Spirit is our life partner as
- 3:29believers.
- 3:31The men of the Bible days seemed very
- 3:33hungry to have the Spirit of God lead
- 3:36them.
- 3:38The cry of David is evidence enough of
- 3:40just how they desired to be led by the
- 3:42Holy Spirit.
- 3:44But today, it seems that our desire
- 3:47towards the guidance of the Holy Spirit
- 3:49is not as it should be.
- 3:53Can we boldly say as a Christian
- 3:56that the Holy Spirit leads us daily?
- 4:01That we are in tune with his leadership.
- 4:05We have become distant
- 4:07from the third person of the Trinity
- 4:10with whom we should have a relationship.
- 4:13It seems there is more head knowledge of
- 4:15who the Holy Spirit is
- 4:17than the actual experience of him.
- 4:20And that actual experience
- 4:22is what we must return to.
- 4:26I believe when the Holy Spirit is in his
- 4:28proper place in a believer's life,
- 4:32half the things we worry about would not
- 4:34even be there,
- 4:36because just as the Bible says,
- 4:38he is our helper.
- 4:40He was sent to literally guide, help,
- 4:43and comfort us.
- 4:45He guides us into all truths.
- 4:49The Bible also makes a very striking
- 4:52statement about the guidance of the Holy
- 4:54Spirit in the book of Romans 8 verse 14.
- 5:00This scripture says,
- 5:02"For as many as are led by the Spirit of
- 5:04God,
- 5:06these are sons of God."
- 5:09That means that one of the main checks
- 5:11of our sonship
- 5:12is the guidance of the Holy Spirit
- 5:14daily.
- 5:16It's literally a heritage we believers
- 5:18[music] get as part of the salvation
- 5:20package.
- 5:22Anyone who is a true son of God hears
- 5:24from heaven.
- 5:26Just as Jesus heard from heaven, just as
- 5:29he was led by the Holy Spirit,
- 5:32just as the apostles were led,
- 5:34just as David was led.
- 5:37The Bible speaks of how these men would
- 5:39set aside time
- 5:41to seek the voice of God on matters.
- 5:44They spoke of times of fellowship that
- 5:46they would have, and of how the Lord
- 5:48would lead them even outside of the
- 5:51place of prayer,
- 5:53and give them directions in normal,
- 5:56ordinary, daily life.
- 6:00Jesus was known to go to the mountain to
- 6:02pray,
- 6:03fellowship, and inquire.
- 6:07The Bible mentioned the apostles
- 6:09honoring the hours of prayer.
- 6:12The Bible speaks of them making
- 6:14decisions by the leading of the Lord.
- 6:18The Holy Spirit is the guiding voice of
- 6:21God.
- 6:22Now, the Holy Spirit is not a
- 6:24personality enforced upon us as
- 6:26believers
- 6:28to make all of life's decisions for us.
- 6:31In fact, when you get to know him,
- 6:34when you get to meet him,
- 6:36you will learn that just as with
- 6:37anything else in this kingdom, there is
- 6:40no force.
- 6:42It is a choice.
- 6:44That is why this is a partnership.
- 6:47You can choose not to hear him.
- 6:50You can choose not to follow him.
- 6:52But please note that the Holy Spirit is
- 6:54the presence of God in your life.
- 6:58He is the one the Lord has given after
- 7:00the taking up of our Lord Jesus Christ
- 7:04to lead us.
- 7:06He was the active force behind Jesus,
- 7:10and behind all the men of old.
- 7:13And honestly,
- 7:15the Christian life doesn't make much
- 7:17sense if we decide to shut him out.
- 7:21He is the one given to us to lead us
- 7:23into and through the Christian life.
- 7:27In fact, without the Holy Spirit,
- 7:30living the Christian life
- 7:33is grasping in the dark.
- 7:36He leads. He speaks the Father's heart
- 7:39and mind to us.
- 7:41He helps us to know the deep things of
- 7:43God.
- 7:45He also helps us to know and understand
- 7:47our inheritance in Christ,
- 7:50and the things that are freely given to
- 7:52us of God.
- 7:54The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 2
- 7:57verses 10 to 12,
- 8:00"But God has revealed them to us
- 8:02through his Spirit.
- 8:04For the Spirit searches all things,
- 8:07yes,
- 8:08the deep things of God.
- 8:11For what man knows the things of a man,
- 8:14except the spirit of the man which is in
- 8:16him?
- 8:19Even so, no one knows the things of God,
- 8:22except the Spirit of [music] God.
- 8:24Now, we have received
- 8:26not the spirit of the world,
- 8:28but the spirit who is from God,
- 8:31that we might know the things that have
- 8:32been freely given to us by God."
- 8:36And above all,
- 8:37he is our companion
- 8:39in the most literal sense of the word.
- 8:43I have found in my journey that he is
- 8:44the closest companion one can have,
- 8:48if only we would let him close.
- 8:51That is why the Bible says,
- 8:54"The fellowship of the Holy Spirit be
- 8:56with you all."
- 8:58If you haven't before,
- 9:00you can start that fellowship right now.
- 9:03See where it leads, and trust him to
- 9:05take you by the hand.
- 9:07In fact, you can say this [music] prayer
- 9:10with us right now to get started.
- 9:16Heavenly Father, thank you for this
- 9:18morning and the gift of a new day.
- 9:21Thank you for waking me up,
- 9:24keeping me safe through the night,
- 9:26and letting me stand here in your mercy
- 9:28once more.
- 9:30Thank you for guiding me to understand
- 9:33the companion you have given me.
- 9:36Thank you, Father, for everything.
- 9:39Father, I believe in you.
- 9:41But today, I come honestly and admit
- 9:44that I haven't fully committed to living
- 9:45a spirit-led life.
- 9:48I haven't always understood it
- 9:50or known how to live it out.
- 9:54Sometimes I relied on my own
- 9:56understanding.
- 9:58Sometimes I followed my own thoughts,
- 10:01feelings, and desires
- 10:03without pausing
- 10:04to listen to your spirit.
- 10:07Sometimes I rushed ahead of you, and
- 10:10other times I was stuck in confusion
- 10:12because I didn't know how to hear you
- 10:13clearly.
- 10:15But today, Lord,
- 10:17I ask for your mercy and help.
- 10:19Please teach me how to live by your
- 10:21spirit,
- 10:23how to follow your guidance,
- 10:25and how to be sensitive to your voice
- 10:28and obedient to your direction.
- 10:31Lord,
- 10:32today I ask that the Holy Spirit fill my
- 10:35life in a new way.
- 10:37I welcome him into every part of my day,
- 10:41my heart, my thoughts, and my decisions.
- 10:45Let him make his home in me, and let me
- 10:47truly feel his presence.
- 10:50Teach me your ways, and open my
- 10:53understanding to the spirit.
- 10:55Help me know you more deeply through
- 10:57him.
- 10:59Help me grasp my inheritance in Christ,
- 11:02the blessings you give,
- 11:04the wisdom you provide, [music]
- 11:06and the grace you offer each day.
- 11:09Father, I'm not asking for something
- 11:11showy,
- 11:12but for genuine fellowship.
- 11:15I want a real walk with the Holy Spirit.
- 11:19Let this fellowship be where guidance
- 11:21begins.
- 11:23Father, as your spirit guides me,
- 11:25please help me trust him.
- 11:28I admit it's hard sometimes to let go of
- 11:30control.
- 11:32I often want to understand everything
- 11:34before I obey.
- 11:36I look for certainty with my own eyes
- 11:38before stepping out in faith.
- 11:41Today,
- 11:43I ask for forgiveness for every time I
- 11:45resisted in my heart.
- 11:48Forgive me for choosing fear over trust,
- 11:52my own will over surrender,
- 11:54and my thoughts over your guidance.
- 11:58Help me reach a place where I can fully
- 12:00trust your Holy Spirit.
- 12:03Help me not to pull back when he leads
- 12:06me forward.
- 12:08Help me listen when he warns me.
- 12:11Help me keep an open heart when he
- 12:13corrects me.
- 12:15Give me the grace to trust him even when
- 12:18I don't see the whole picture.
- 12:21Give me the grace to follow him
- 12:23even when his path takes me beyond my
- 12:25comfort zone.
- 12:28Father, please help me grow in my
- 12:30knowledge and understanding of you.
- 12:34Let the Holy Spirit guide me in your
- 12:36ways and reveal your heart to me.
- 12:39Show me what I need to know about my
- 12:41life, my walk with you,
- 12:44and the inheritance I have in Christ.
- 12:47Help me grasp [music] what you have
- 12:49freely given me,
- 12:51who I am in you,
- 12:53and the life you've called me to live.
- 12:57I don't want my Christian walk to be
- 12:59shallow, confused, or uncertain anymore.
- 13:04Let it be rooted in fellowship, truth,
- 13:08and the quiet confidence that comes from
- 13:10following your spirit.
- 13:13Above all, Lord,
- 13:15give me an open,
- 13:17willing,
- 13:18humble, and attentive heart.
- 13:22Remove every distraction that keeps me
- 13:24from hearing you clearly.
- 13:27Every stubbornness that stops me from
- 13:29fully yielding.
- 13:31And every fear that holds me back from
- 13:33obeying quickly.
- 13:36Holy Spirit,
- 13:38I invite you into my life and every part
- 13:41of my day.
- 13:43Please guide me gently and lead me along
- 13:46the path set before me.
- 13:49Direct my steps and help me make choices
- 13:52that please God.
- 13:55Help me to understand what is good,
- 13:57wise,
- 13:59and in line with God's will.
- 14:02Open my eyes where I've been blind, and
- 14:05correct my wrong perspectives.
- 14:08Quiet any voice inside me that is louder
- 14:11than yours.
- 14:13Today,
- 14:14I depend on your comfort, wisdom,
- 14:17guidance, and companionship.
- 14:20I choose to follow,
- 14:22listen,
- 14:23yield, and trust that your way is better
- 14:26than mine.
- 14:29Heavenly Father,
- 14:30I say thank you again this day for
- 14:32hearing me and for answering my prayers.
- 14:36Thank you because I know from this day
- 14:40I enter into a spirit-led life guided by
- 14:43your Holy Spirit.
- 14:45I make better decisions from now [music]
- 14:47on.
- 14:48I know what to do from now on. I am
- 14:50divinely led by the Lord from now on. My
- 14:54ears are open to divine leading from
- 14:56today,
- 14:57and my days are full of your presence in
- 14:59[music] Jesus' name. Amen.
