  1. 0:00you know I love introducing a guest by
  2. 0:03way of career titles in this case if I
  3. 0:07do all of the career titles we'll be out
  4. 0:09of time for the interview Janna
  5. 0:11boomerspunk author television
  6. 0:13personality journalist and
  7. 0:17um and now podcaster give me a brief
  8. 0:21review of podcasting with Jenna this is
  9. 0:25so amazing I mean I I signed up with
  10. 0:28this company called criminal minded
  11. 0:30media to do a podcast they came to me
  12. 0:32and said we want to do your books we
  13. 0:34want you to do podcasts and tell you the
  14. 0:36story of your books I thought oh that's
  15. 0:37going to be simple dimple I just I've
  16. 0:39written a book all I have to do is kind
  17. 0:40of like maybe read the you know some
  18. 0:42chapters and that's how you do a podcast
  19. 0:43at all you say well no since you've been
  20. 0:45at this thing for like 20 years so you
  21. 0:47start telling the story and when you
  22. 0:49tell the story verbally you tell it
  23. 0:51differently than when you write it now
  24. 0:53the one good thing about my writing is I
  25. 0:55write very much like I speak so I am
  26. 0:58able to sometimes like take sentences
  27. 1:01that I've had or things that I've done
  28. 1:03but it's it's retelling the story but in
  29. 1:05a way that's far more I think Lively as
  30. 1:08you know it's more intimate there's lots
  31. 1:11the intonation of your of your voice you
  32. 1:14can do a lot more in the podcast than
  33. 1:17you can in the written page but one of
  34. 1:18the stories in the written page that you
  35. 1:20did that you may be at this point best
  36. 1:23known for is winning Ruth judge the
  37. 1:26trunk murderers from Phoenix Arizona
  38. 1:29when people didn't know where Phoenix
  39. 1:30Arizona was right but now as an
  40. 1:33investigative reporter another woman in
  41. 1:37the news and please tell us briefly why
  42. 1:41you were attracted to the Deborah milky
  43. 1:43story The Deborah milky story is one of
  44. 1:45those stories that will horrify you once
  45. 1:47you get inside for 25 years Pat I
  46. 1:50thought this woman was a baby killing
  47. 1:52I mean I agreed with the media that was
  48. 1:55said oh she's guilty as hell she
  49. 1:56confessed my God she confessed I felt
  50. 1:58the same way reading the stories every
  51. 2:00day every day every single day and 24
  52. 2:03years later okay this girl was goes into
  53. 2:05prison at 24 she's now almost 50. 24
  54. 2:08years later the ninth Circuit Court says
  55. 2:10either give this woman a fair trial or
  56. 2:12set her free because this is ridiculous
  57. 2:14I'm going how the hell did this happen
  58. 2:16and so I started looking into the case
  59. 2:18and the more I looked into it and found
  60. 2:20that Arizona had done a horrible
  61. 2:23Injustice this may be one of the
  62. 2:25greatest injustices in the history of
  63. 2:27jurisprudence in this country but why
  64. 2:29her why is it that some prosecutor or
  65. 2:33some team of prosecutors decided let's
  66. 2:36get Deborah milky this was a this was a
  67. 2:40get this was a get for the for the
  68. 2:42detective who claimed she had confessed
  69. 2:44to him when she had never confessed to
  70. 2:45him because he was running for a
  71. 2:47constable in a few months this was a get
  72. 2:49for the prosecutor who became prosecutor
  73. 2:52of the year for putting her in an on
  74. 2:54death row this was they had what they
  75. 2:56had is a little boy had been killed
  76. 2:58horribly killed on his way to see Santa
  77. 3:00Claus to really loser men had been
  78. 3:04responsible for the actual killing right
  79. 3:06that was like a nothingness right but
  80. 3:08you had a beautiful young woman into
  81. 3:10that a beautiful young mother 24 years
  82. 3:12old oh she had to hate her kid she had
  83. 3:14to be a terrible mother she was a single
  84. 3:16mother who didn't want this kid she
  85. 3:18orchestrated this whole thing you add
  86. 3:20that to the mix and all of a sudden
  87. 3:21you've got a far more Sensational case
  88. 3:23and that's exactly what they had in some
  89. 3:26way though somehow she was found to be
  90. 3:29innocent of the crime and released so
  91. 3:32there must be some compensation then for
  92. 3:35the time that she spent in prison
  93. 3:36wouldn't you think so wouldn't you think
  94. 3:38so she sued the State of Arizona and she
  95. 3:41sued the City of Phoenix and the police
  96. 3:42department and everybody to try to get
  97. 3:44compensation the judge eventually threw
  98. 3:47it out not on any merits of the case but
  99. 3:50on technicalities about if she had
  100. 3:52supplied enough documentation if she had
  101. 3:54thrown things away they were claiming in
  102. 3:57court the the city's attorneys were
  103. 3:59claiming in court that she had destroyed
  104. 4:01evidence that she had collected while
  105. 4:03she was in prison
  106. 4:04she had what could you possibly do to
  107. 4:08correct what's what had already happened
  108. 4:09to her what could she possibly know and
  109. 4:12and have have thrown away that was had
  110. 4:15any any value on whether this the cop
  111. 4:17had lied about her her confession which
  112. 4:20was the whole the whole point of the
  113. 4:21whole the sounding story it was then she
  114. 4:24got nothing when everybody thought that
  115. 4:25she was guilty right on death row and
  116. 4:28now a citizen still of Arizona no she's
  117. 4:32left Arizona I don't blame her you wrote
  118. 4:35the book but you also doing your podcast
  119. 4:37right in eight parts in eight parts okay
  120. 4:39uh and you're gonna let us know when we
  121. 4:42can find the pie okay when you could
  122. 4:44find the podcast why don't you tell
  123. 4:45everybody now where they can find the
  124. 4:46book they can find the book on Amazon
  125. 4:48they can find the book in bookstores
  126. 4:50it's called a stolen Life the Deborah
  127. 4:52milky story and I hope that they'll read
  128. 4:55it because once you read this book you
  129. 4:57will understand that this was a
  130. 4:59magnificently horrible case and Arizona
  131. 5:01has has should be ashamed of itself for
  132. 5:04what it did to her well when you're
  133. 5:06looking for the book and perhaps a
  134. 5:08source that you might go to any of your
  135. 5:10favorite bookstores and you're saying
  136. 5:11well I'll just look the author up under
  137. 5:14the spelling of her name just look for
  138. 5:16Jenna boomersbach out of the question
  139. 5:19except when you want to read about a
  140. 5:23phenomenal exciting and annoying tale of
  141. 5:26Injustice Jenna boomersbach has been on
  142. 5:29the daily mix and I'm glad
