  1. 0:01welcome to this tutorial about basic
  2. 0:03interactive dashboard concepts we will
  3. 0:06be talking about what a dashboard is
  4. 0:08what a filter is and other things you
  5. 0:10need to know about interactive
  6. 0:11dashboards
  7. 0:14after viewing this video you'll be able
  8. 0:16to describe a dashboard define a filter
  9. 0:19and analyze data
  10. 0:23now let's cover some dashboard basics a
  11. 0:26dashboard is an interactive tool that
  12. 0:28allows the user to extract and analyze
  13. 0:31relevant insights while displaying
  14. 0:33information in a visual way
  15. 0:35analysis is performed with the aid of an
  16. 0:38interactive dashboard is easier and
  17. 0:40quicker than scrolling through multiple
  18. 0:42views and lots of data
  19. 0:46a filter is a button that can be clicked
  20. 0:48to display
  21. 0:50data the way you want it to be displayed
  22. 0:52in a table or chart in tableau in excel
  23. 0:55and power bi the same thing is called a
  24. 0:58slicer
  25. 1:01now we are going to go through some
  26. 1:03examples of dashboards and how to use
  27. 1:05the filters in the dashboards these
  28. 1:07dashboards are examples only the
  29. 1:10dashboard you work with will likely be
  30. 1:12different but the principles are the
  31. 1:13same
  32. 1:14just a note i'm using chrome as my
  33. 1:16browser here but other browsers should
  34. 1:19work if you ever have difficulty with
  35. 1:21viewing a dashboard try switching your
  36. 1:23browser because that may resolve the
  37. 1:24issue
  38. 1:25the first dashboard we have here has
  39. 1:28three separate filters one for past due
  40. 1:31category
  41. 1:32one for region and one for restaurant
  42. 1:35type click on each category you are
  43. 1:38interested in
  44. 1:40hold down the control key or command key
  45. 1:43if using a mac to make more than one
  46. 1:45choice
  47. 1:46if you do not make a selection in a
  48. 1:48particular chart the default is all
  49. 1:50categories
  50. 1:52as you click on one chart
  51. 1:55the other charts in this visualization
  52. 1:58change at any point you can refresh your
  53. 2:00browser to reset all filters
  54. 2:05you can mouse over each of the data
  55. 2:08points
  56. 2:09to see the data underlying that visual
  57. 2:11visualization
  58. 2:14in the second dashboard
  59. 2:16we select one or more categories for
  60. 2:18plant
  61. 2:19and one or more product groups again
  62. 2:22hold down the control key or command key
  63. 2:25if using a mac to make more than one
  64. 2:27choice
  65. 2:28note that sometimes you may have to
  66. 2:30scroll through a chart to see all the
  67. 2:31categories
  68. 2:40in this next
  69. 2:42dashboard we have a drop down filter in
  70. 2:45the upper right corner just click on the
  71. 2:48down arrow to make to make your
  72. 2:51selection
  73. 2:52the related charts will change as you
  74. 2:56make your changes in the filter
  75. 3:01in this last dashboard we see an example
  76. 3:04of a slider bar to change the category
  77. 3:07you can just click the forward and back
  78. 3:09arrows to scroll through the categories
  79. 3:13once you click give it a minute to
  80. 3:15change the chart
  81. 3:18we just saw several examples of the
  82. 3:20types of filters that may be present in
  83. 3:22a dashboard a dashboard can have one two
  84. 3:25or more filters
  85. 3:27there are filter types beyond those
  86. 3:29shown here but these examples should
  87. 3:31give you enough information to get
  88. 3:33started with reading and interpreting
  89. 3:35dashboards
  90. 3:38now we come to the thinking and analysis
  91. 3:40part think about the questions that you
  92. 3:42could ask and get the answers to by
  93. 3:44using the filter buttons on a dashboard
  94. 3:48the information a manager or other user
  95. 3:51of the dashboard needs can be retrieved
  96. 3:53just by clicking on one or more filters
  97. 3:55it's that easy
  98. 3:57these same dashboard concepts can be
  99. 3:59applied when using and other tools such
  100. 4:01as power bi or excel it is much easier
  101. 4:04to use a dashboard than digging through
  102. 4:07multiple sheets of data
  103. 4:11that's it we're done with this video
