  3. 0:14hello learners i am dr subhad kesharwani
  4. 0:16working with india gandhi national open
  5. 0:18university in school of management
  6. 0:19studies
  7. 0:20being a course coordinator of this
  8. 0:22particular course called research
  9. 0:23methodology and statistical analysis
  10. 0:25i am going to talk today on the curtain
  11. 0:28is on the preamble part of business
  12. 0:29research
  13. 0:30which revolves around you know what
  14. 0:32exactly the research is
  15. 0:33what is business research and what
  16. 0:36exactly the research methodology is
  17. 0:37because
  18. 0:38when you go more into the depth of this
  19. 0:39research methodology you
  20. 0:41you have to find out that mythology is
  21. 0:43nothing but a pedagogy
  22. 0:45it's a it's a it's a modus operandi it's
  23. 0:47a procedure by which the research is
  24. 0:48going to be done
  25. 0:50as far as this particular course is
  26. 0:51concerned which is
  27. 0:53part of our mcom program that is
  28. 0:56a master of commerce and the the course
  29. 1:00code is
  30. 1:00mco3 research methodology and
  31. 1:02statistical analysis
  32. 1:03so if you go more into the depth of this
  33. 1:05particular course
  34. 1:06you will find out that that this this
  35. 1:09particular
  36. 1:10course mco3 talks about research
  37. 1:12methodology and
  38. 1:13the the various analysis which are
  39. 1:16fruitful as far as the research is
  40. 1:18concerned because today research is
  41. 1:20somewhat more talking about the the
  42. 1:22statistics
  43. 1:23and you know the literature reviews and
  44. 1:25the more use of technology so
  45. 1:28technology is something something which
  46. 1:30could be
  47. 1:32softwares which are which are going to
  48. 1:35you know
  49. 1:35facilitate the researchers or the
  50. 1:37learners in
  51. 1:38in building the data and when you
  52. 1:42go more into the depth of the data you
  53. 1:43will find out that
  54. 1:45there are various kinds of data they are
  55. 1:46the data which are secondary data
  56. 1:49considered to be you know
  57. 1:50available and they on the other hand the
  58. 1:52first hand data which used to be
  59. 1:54collected
  60. 1:55by the by the researchers so when you go
  61. 1:57more into the depth of this research
  62. 1:58methodology you will find out that
  63. 2:00this research methodology is going to
  64. 2:02talk about various aspects so
  65. 2:04when we are going more into the depth of
  66. 2:06the business research we
  67. 2:08see business research is one of the
  68. 2:09ingredients of the research and the
  69. 2:11research is something
  70. 2:12which is which is uh which is a very old
  71. 2:14phenomena and
  72. 2:16and it was you know it is a very
  73. 2:20long time affairs and and was there from
  74. 2:23the from the very first day
  75. 2:24so but but uh later at the latest stage
  76. 2:27what we observed that
  77. 2:28that the business the corporate house
  78. 2:30the e-commerce portals
  79. 2:31or we talked about you know uh the
  80. 2:33academicians
  81. 2:34are are now using the research in a more
  82. 2:36massive manner
  83. 2:37the intention is very clear that
  84. 2:39whatever the gap is there on the basis
  85. 2:41of the gap
  86. 2:42the first and information need to be
  87. 2:44extracted and that and
  88. 2:45and those first-hand information are are
  89. 2:49you know used for the for this purpose
  90. 2:52so anyway if we
  91. 2:54if you go and talk more about this this
  92. 2:56particular
  93. 2:58paper that is research methodology in
  94. 3:00statistical analysis
  95. 3:01it is bifurcated into five blocks and
  96. 3:05each block consists of four to five
  97. 3:06units so in total we have got
  98. 3:08uh 18 to 20 chapters and the the first
  99. 3:12block
  100. 3:12the first blocks talks about you know
  101. 3:14the research and data collection so
  102. 3:17when you go and talk more about the
  103. 3:18research research is
  104. 3:20some someone say it's an art it's in
  105. 3:22science so while going into
  106. 3:24the detailed definition of the research
  107. 3:26you will see how
  108. 3:27the research is is changing with the
  109. 3:29change of time the
  110. 3:30how the technology is changing the
  111. 3:31research how technology is you know
  112. 3:33facilitating the humans
  113. 3:35or you know the computer applications
  114. 3:36which are definitely going to add a
  115. 3:38feather in a cap
  116. 3:39and by that you know the research had
  117. 3:41gone in a different shape so
  118. 3:43it's when technology enters into
  119. 3:45research it's bring a paradigm shift
  120. 3:47and how that shift is you know helping
  121. 3:49the society by and large
  122. 3:51or you know the individual or the
  123. 3:52students or the teachers or the
  124. 3:54academicians or the education industry
  125. 3:56so research is something which is which
  126. 3:59is uh need of an r and
  127. 4:00everywhere you find out that that this
  128. 4:03is uh this is an important ingredient
  129. 4:05as far as you know the the footfall of
  130. 4:08the
  131. 4:09company is concerned or you know the
  132. 4:11movement is concerned so
  133. 4:12we will we will talk about various
  134. 4:14aspects how the research is
  135. 4:16what exactly the definition of the
  136. 4:18research is and when you are going to
  137. 4:20link with the
  138. 4:21business how it is going to become more
  139. 4:23fruitful
  140. 4:24and how it is helping to the corporate
  141. 4:26world or you know the business or
  142. 4:28to the e-commerce industry because the
  143. 4:31commerce industry had changed a lot and
  144. 4:34as far as our commerce graduates are
  145. 4:36concerned or the common students are
  146. 4:37concerned or you know the masters
  147. 4:40in commerce students are concerned those
  148. 4:41who are pursuing their m com
  149. 4:43they they the great use because if you
  150. 4:45have a
  151. 4:47backbone of research ultimately once you
  152. 4:49complete accomplish your
  153. 4:51post graduate degree and move into you
  154. 4:52know the further studies like you know
  155. 4:55the doctoral programs or the anfield or
  156. 4:56phd you will find out
  157. 4:58that there is a great use of research
  158. 4:59because because this
  159. 5:01if you have a knack of research
  160. 5:02methodology ultimately very easily you
  161. 5:04can
  162. 5:06you can you know work on it and excel
  163. 5:09your research and finally
  164. 5:10this can lead to uh to the first hand
  165. 5:13information so we will throw a light on
  166. 5:15various aspects this is
  167. 5:17this is the the preamble chapter which
  168. 5:19just talks about the curtain laser of
  169. 5:21to business research and gradually you
  170. 5:23will find out we are going to talk more
  171. 5:24about you know the various aspects
  172. 5:26which are which are you know helping and
  173. 5:29and facilitating the
  174. 5:30the researchers or the technocrats in
  175. 5:32doing a research
  176. 5:33so the first blocks talks about research
  177. 5:35and data collection
  178. 5:36and when you talk about the data
  179. 5:38collection data collection is could be
  180. 5:40you know
  181. 5:40the collection of secondary data or the
  182. 5:42primary data and when we go more into
  183. 5:44the depth of primary data you find out
  184. 5:46that this is the data which which need
  185. 5:48to be you know need to be in first-hand
  186. 5:50manner and
  187. 5:50collected from from the respondents and
  188. 5:53for that there are certain procedures we
  189. 5:55will definitely throw a light on that
  190. 5:56that how the data collection procedure
  191. 5:58started you know
  192. 6:00framing the gap then finding out the
  193. 6:01objective and finally you know
  194. 6:03putting floating the is to the
  195. 6:06respondents and once respondents you
  196. 6:07know reciprocate
  197. 6:08then we accumulate all those data or
  198. 6:10collect the data and finally what happen
  199. 6:12then start you know using the data or
  200. 6:15reframing the data
  201. 6:16or customize the data as per our need
  202. 6:18and utility so this is this is where you
  203. 6:21find out
  204. 6:22the data collection is going to play a
  205. 6:23very important role and there are
  206. 6:25certain
  207. 6:25procedures there are certain modus
  208. 6:27operandi which navigate you know
  209. 6:29the researchers or the or the individual
  210. 6:32to
  211. 6:32to collect the data it's not like that
  212. 6:35you can just
  213. 6:36you know frame the objectives and on
  214. 6:39on the basis of that you know put
  215. 6:41certain question is because
  216. 6:43if you talk in the today's scenario the
  217. 6:45data
  218. 6:47is very gigantic in nature it's it's
  219. 6:49having a you know
  220. 6:51a a huge shape so how you're going to
  221. 6:54extract the information from that data
  222. 6:56because
  223. 6:57when you are when you are going to
  224. 6:58extract when you are going to narrow
  225. 7:00down or
  226. 7:01extract the data it's really a very
  227. 7:04cumbersome process because
  228. 7:05because the data is in in lags in in
  229. 7:08thousands or in bull in billions
  230. 7:10how we are going to how you are going to
  231. 7:12narrow down how you are going to filter
  232. 7:14down that is more important so what i
  233. 7:15mean to say that uh
  234. 7:18this this kind of model need to be taken
  235. 7:20care in a quite contemporary manner
  236. 7:22that and we are going to definitely
  237. 7:24touch on on all those aspects
  238. 7:26in a gradual manner because this is a
  239. 7:28six credit course of
  240. 7:29m.com and in this six credit course we
  241. 7:31are roughly having you know
  242. 7:3260 lectures which which are going to
  243. 7:35touch on the various aspects
  244. 7:37starting from you know the data
  245. 7:38collection literature review
  246. 7:40objectives hypothesis then sampling and
  247. 7:42universal is also there because
  248. 7:45when you're going to filter down that is
  249. 7:47more important because your
  250. 7:48your your universal is quite big and and
  251. 7:50your sample
  252. 7:51size could be something which could be
  253. 7:53feasible in nature so how you're going
  254. 7:54to do all those things
  255. 7:56that need to be taken care on the other
  256. 7:58hand there are certain faqs also
  257. 8:00which can definitely facilitates the
  258. 8:02learners to know
  259. 8:04that what are the questions what are
  260. 8:06certain questions which comes in their
  261. 8:07mind that
  262. 8:08how they are going to you know
  263. 8:11filter or or hit the particular domain
  264. 8:14so
  265. 8:14that we are going to touch again and
  266. 8:16processing and preservation of data how
  267. 8:18are going to preserve the data which is
  268. 8:19going to be useful
  269. 8:20so they are they are certain you know
  270. 8:21the technology which is there because
  271. 8:23again
  272. 8:24what i was talking about the data and
  273. 8:26analysis
  274. 8:27or you know the the nomenclature of data
  275. 8:30is changing with the change of time
  276. 8:31there was a time when data was just you
  277. 8:33know
  278. 8:33name email or mobile but right now the
  279. 8:36data is something over and over to that
  280. 8:38data is now real real-time data and when
  281. 8:40e-commerce companies or the commerce
  282. 8:42portals you know
  283. 8:43or you know the business tycoons try to
  284. 8:46analyze the consumer's
  285. 8:47perceptions in that case you know this
  286. 8:50this analysis is going to play a very
  287. 8:52important role because
  288. 8:53this analysis can provide them a roof
  289. 8:54provide them a platform that
  290. 8:56how they are going to know the taste
  291. 8:58about the consumers
  292. 8:59and on the basis of that that is where
  293. 9:01you know the business research is going
  294. 9:02to play a very important role
  295. 9:04because we have already talked in our
  296. 9:06preceding lectures
  297. 9:07that business is nothing but uh but you
  298. 9:10know how to
  299. 9:11how to you know and regulate how to
  300. 9:13integrate the consumers
  301. 9:15and the employees and finally you know
  302. 9:17the
  303. 9:18in the intention is to generate a profit
  304. 9:20so that
  305. 9:21the balance sheet of the company goes as
  306. 9:23far as the profit is concerned can go up
  307. 9:25so these are the ways by which the
  308. 9:27things are going relational and trend
  309. 9:28analysis
  310. 9:29there are certain trend analysis which
  311. 9:31are which can be which can known
  312. 9:33because future forecasting or you know
  313. 9:36the analysis
  314. 9:37there and what are the trends which are
  315. 9:39going to put the set
  316. 9:40because the very good example is the
  317. 9:42pandemic stage you know
  318. 9:43or the lockdown stage so if you start
  319. 9:45you know uh
  320. 9:47finding out that uh that the sectors
  321. 9:50which
  322. 9:50which had been deteriorated or the
  323. 9:52economy or the gdp had gone down
  324. 9:54what is the reason behind that and how
  325. 9:56and and now you see there are certain
  326. 9:58industries which are coming up
  327. 9:59during this lockdown periods like the
  328. 10:01automobile industry the the car industry
  329. 10:04market is going up day by day the reason
  330. 10:06is that there is no
  331. 10:07there is less use of public transport so
  332. 10:10people are you know depend on their own
  333. 10:13uh this personal transport so
  334. 10:16that is where it has had given a boost
  335. 10:18to the automobile industry
  336. 10:19agriculture industry is coming up in a
  337. 10:21in a brick manner and we have seen that
  338. 10:23the the sale of the tractors and sale of
  339. 10:25the other you know the equipments which
  340. 10:27are
  341. 10:27interlinked with the with the
  342. 10:28agriculture is going up so these are the
  343. 10:30relational things which are
  344. 10:32going to end so definitely we are going
  345. 10:34to talk on certain things
  346. 10:35there are certain tools there are
  347. 10:36certain parameters which need to be
  348. 10:38taken care
  349. 10:39and how this this trends are and
  350. 10:41relational
  351. 10:42analysis are changing that need to be
  352. 10:44important so probability and hypothesis
  353. 10:47testing is there and
  354. 10:48we are going to use and talk about you
  355. 10:50know certain probabilistic approaches
  356. 10:52and hypothesis testing is there because
  357. 10:54either it could be null or or alternate
  358. 10:56we will
  359. 10:57we will talk about all those things and
  360. 10:58then interpretation reporting
  361. 11:00that is more important because finally
  362. 11:02if you have
  363. 11:03started you know learning a literature
  364. 11:06or review the literature then
  365. 11:08the second part is the research
  366. 11:09methodology which talks about that
  367. 11:11how you go what could be the pedagogy
  368. 11:13and the third is the data collection
  369. 11:14then
  370. 11:15data interpretation and then putting all
  371. 11:17those things in a in a report format
  372. 11:20in a in a detailed project report
  373. 11:22because if you
  374. 11:23if you have done everything if you have
  375. 11:24collected a data you have done you know
  376. 11:27for
  377. 11:27you have uh you have exhaustively work
  378. 11:30on the
  379. 11:31primary data and collected some
  380. 11:33first-hand information but not able to
  381. 11:35put that thing in a
  382. 11:36in a proper shape in a in a reporting
  383. 11:38format or interpret this
  384. 11:40again this is not going to you know
  385. 11:42fulfill the things and
  386. 11:44and so best part is that one should
  387. 11:46always
  388. 11:47try to follow this this procedure so the
  389. 11:49intention behind this research
  390. 11:50methodology and strategic analysis is
  391. 11:52that
  392. 11:53that you know starting on a on a layer
  393. 11:56to layer basis the the tier one talks
  394. 11:58about research and data collection
  395. 12:00the tier two talks about process
  396. 12:01processing and preservation of data then
  397. 12:03relational and trend analysis
  398. 12:05probability in hypothesis testing and
  399. 12:07finally interpreting the other things
  400. 12:08and then
  401. 12:09putting and formulate all those things
  402. 12:10in a report format so if you if you see
  403. 12:12this particular thing
  404. 12:14this uh if you talk about the
  405. 12:16methodology
  406. 12:17mythology is if you if you go into the
  407. 12:20backdrop of this vent diagram you find
  408. 12:22out that
  409. 12:22philosophy is a system of belief and
  410. 12:25knowledge that provides
  411. 12:27global influential framework that is
  412. 12:28very true and philosophy is more about
  413. 12:30abstraction and knowledge
  414. 12:32thinking and attitude and if you see the
  415. 12:34the bigger circle
  416. 12:35starts from you know the philosophy
  417. 12:37which is just nothing but a concept
  418. 12:39building
  419. 12:40when we are going to start a research or
  420. 12:42initiate our research
  421. 12:43we we are in the inception stage we
  422. 12:46just try to explore many things
  423. 12:50and as far as exploring like exploring
  424. 12:53of literatures the various literatures
  425. 12:55if i am going to do my research on on
  426. 12:57e-commerce
  427. 12:58or so i i will start you know learning
  428. 13:01many things about the e-commerce what
  429. 13:02could be the pedagogy of e-commerce how
  430. 13:04this e-commerce is going to
  431. 13:06work and who are the players who are
  432. 13:07dominating this e-commerce business
  433. 13:10blah blah blah so this is nothing but
  434. 13:12you know
  435. 13:13give individual about about the basic
  436. 13:15framework so philosophy talks about
  437. 13:18that basic framework because once you go
  438. 13:20through the basic framework then
  439. 13:21only you can uh you can able to know
  440. 13:24what exactly the scenario is
  441. 13:25and when you are able to go into the
  442. 13:27depth of scenario
  443. 13:29then you started narrow down then you
  444. 13:30started filtering the other things
  445. 13:32and from there you know the approach
  446. 13:33matters and that is where
  447. 13:36in the beginning stage as a researcher
  448. 13:37when you are going to start your
  449. 13:38research
  450. 13:39you should you know go through a mug up
  451. 13:41you know n number of literatures
  452. 13:43and but the literature should be full
  453. 13:46full of directions it should not be
  454. 13:48directionless so if your research
  455. 13:49revolves around e-commerce
  456. 13:51or your research revolves around you
  457. 13:52know customer uh
  458. 13:54habits or consumer behavior then your
  459. 13:56research your literature should be in
  460. 13:58that
  461. 13:59perspective only so this is not going to
  462. 14:01give learners
  463. 14:02a roof but but you know build
  464. 14:05the the basic framework and once the
  465. 14:07basic framework
  466. 14:09develops then you know the things can go
  467. 14:11in a more
  468. 14:12more systematic manner because the
  469. 14:13system says that first you
  470. 14:15go through n number of so starting with
  471. 14:17you know 100 literatures or 200 or 500
  472. 14:20and then narrow down to 250 or something
  473. 14:23which can
  474. 14:24which can give the clear glimpse about
  475. 14:26that so this could be the pedagogy where
  476. 14:31you know a bigger circle and if you see
  477. 14:34this
  478. 14:35this approach approach is also part of
  479. 14:36that philosophy but the the size of the
  480. 14:39circle
  481. 14:40is quite smaller now as compared to the
  482. 14:42philosophy
  483. 14:43and you have narrowed down and you are
  484. 14:44just you know concentrating on approach
  485. 14:46how the interlinkages are there and how
  486. 14:49your research is somewhat overlap with
  487. 14:50that
  488. 14:51so then you know the if you see the
  489. 14:53other circle that is called mythology so
  490. 14:55this
  491. 14:56this mythology is nothing but talking
  492. 14:59about
  493. 14:59you know a combination of approach and
  494. 15:01philosophy so philosophy
  495. 15:03is is a broader term approach is little
  496. 15:06broader and mythology is
  497. 15:07uh a cream of that a filter
  498. 15:10a filter of that whatever the so
  499. 15:12mythology is an action focus so whatever
  500. 15:14the action you are going to
  501. 15:16do whatever the execution you are so
  502. 15:18research methodology is
  503. 15:19is nothing but you know the research the
  504. 15:21concept which you have built up
  505. 15:23and and the pedagogy you are using the
  506. 15:26modus operandi
  507. 15:27so then it could be action focused
  508. 15:28focused and and
  509. 15:30going to give you certain results
  510. 15:31because uh if you're not going to narrow
  511. 15:34down yourself
  512. 15:35uh ultimately uh you know you are not
  513. 15:38going to conclude yourself
  514. 15:39to the particular results so mythology
  515. 15:42can always emphasize always inclined on
  516. 15:45on getting the the the result oriented
  517. 15:48work so
  518. 15:49when you talk about the research
  519. 15:50methodology at the end we have seen that
  520. 15:52finally you know things would work
  521. 15:54certain layers and the final layers
  522. 15:55talks about
  523. 15:56how the things are going to be done so
  524. 15:58anyway if you see this
  525. 16:00methodology in a more elaborative manner
  526. 16:02you will find out that methodology is
  527. 16:04the systematic theoretical analysis of
  528. 16:05the methods
  529. 16:06applied to a field of study so what we
  530. 16:08have observed that
  531. 16:11that it is a it is a systematic work
  532. 16:13it's not like that
  533. 16:16that you have you have started you know
  534. 16:18thinking about or reading about certain
  535. 16:20things there must be certain mythology
  536. 16:21there must be certain
  537. 16:23algorithm there must be certain
  538. 16:24mathematics behind it so
  539. 16:26that is the reason we say that
  540. 16:27researches and science and research is
  541. 16:29an art or it could be
  542. 16:31algorithm or mathematics because when
  543. 16:33you are talking about the mathematics
  544. 16:34you are more meticulous
  545. 16:36and you are going to apply the or
  546. 16:38formulate the things in a more
  547. 16:39systematic manner
  548. 16:40and there are certain systems they are
  549. 16:42certain you know the protocols
  550. 16:44which need to be maintained so mythology
  551. 16:46is a systematic theoretical analysis of
  552. 16:48the methods
  553. 16:48applied to a field to of study field of
  554. 16:51study why i'm talking about because
  555. 16:52because when you start you know
  556. 16:54exploring uh literatures
  557. 16:56exploring a data related to uh vis-a-vis
  558. 16:59you know e-commerce
  559. 17:00then you get huge number of data and
  560. 17:04it could be you know the country centric
  561. 17:06it could be you know the judicial
  562. 17:07centric it could be
  563. 17:08you know having a different format
  564. 17:11because every
  565. 17:12country have got certain style of
  566. 17:13working their way of
  567. 17:15procedure is different so how you are
  568. 17:17going to uh
  569. 17:18apply that is more important so if
  570. 17:20somebody is you know doing the research
  571. 17:22in an indian perspective
  572. 17:24or you know the technological
  573. 17:26perspective or
  574. 17:27just you know talking about the
  575. 17:28consumers of that particular
  576. 17:30judiciarians
  577. 17:30in that case the literature need to be
  578. 17:32you know revolves around that only
  579. 17:34if if you are you know talking about the
  580. 17:36consumers of india
  581. 17:38and and and exploring the data of
  582. 17:41of the consumers of the western world i
  583. 17:43think this is where you know the
  584. 17:45research is going to be dismantled
  585. 17:47so when you are talking about the
  586. 17:48research when you're talking about you
  587. 17:50know
  588. 17:50the this aspect you have to be quite
  589. 17:53cautious you have to be quite
  590. 17:55you know focused that if your research
  591. 17:58is
  592. 17:59on the indian consumers or the indian
  593. 18:00consumer behaviors then only
  594. 18:02your research revolves around your data
  595. 18:04collection revolves around the
  596. 18:06literature revolves around the behavior
  597. 18:07of the consumer
  598. 18:08or and that too you know vis-a-vis the
  599. 18:10indian scenario or
  600. 18:12indian perspective so it com so
  601. 18:14methodology
  602. 18:15always believes in the mathematics or
  603. 18:17the analysis
  604. 18:18or the modus operandi it comprise the
  605. 18:20theoretical analysis
  606. 18:22of the body of methods and principles
  607. 18:24associated with a branch of knowledge
  608. 18:26because and and how it is going to
  609. 18:30link and now other part is that since
  610. 18:33researchers are are in big numbers and
  611. 18:36these researchers are you know
  612. 18:38uh are are doing the research in a
  613. 18:40different part of the world
  614. 18:42so if you if you talk about you know the
  615. 18:44indian scenario or
  616. 18:46um you find out you know e-commerce is a
  617. 18:49upcoming term or the very beginning term
  618. 18:52or you know the technological india or
  619. 18:54the consumers indian consumers
  620. 18:56who are doing shopping through through
  621. 18:57internet if you take this kind of
  622. 18:59example you find out
  623. 19:00this is a very burdening topic and lot
  624. 19:02of research is going on in this
  625. 19:03particular domain and
  626. 19:05and across the board you find out that
  627. 19:07every institutions or
  628. 19:08or you know the research institutions
  629. 19:10you find the the learners
  630. 19:12who are who are in the undergraduate
  631. 19:15level or graduate level
  632. 19:17or you know the postgraduate level or
  633. 19:19doctoral student
  634. 19:20they are somewhere directly and directly
  635. 19:22you know doing the research in that
  636. 19:24and some of the research are going to be
  637. 19:26overlapped now
  638. 19:27so how your research is going to be
  639. 19:29different from others
  640. 19:30that also need to be taken care because
  641. 19:32if you are going to do a stereotype of
  642. 19:34research
  643. 19:35ultimately what will happen that it is
  644. 19:37more like you know
  645. 19:38the doing the research of the secondary
  646. 19:41data which is
  647. 19:42no more fruitful so so that also need to
  648. 19:45be taken care and for that
  649. 19:47reading a literature is going to play a
  650. 19:49very important role when we are going to
  651. 19:50talk more about the metallurgies
  652. 19:52we will see how this literature choosing
  653. 19:55the literature is going to play a very
  654. 19:56important role because
  655. 19:57uh the genesis behind you know the good
  656. 20:01research is the literature
  657. 20:02and if your literature is fruitful and
  658. 20:06in a right track review of literature
  659. 20:09and right track you will you will be
  660. 20:10able to know
  661. 20:11that how the things are going to be done
  662. 20:14so it
  663. 20:15encompassed concepts such as paradigm
  664. 20:17theoretical model phase and quantitative
  665. 20:19or qualitative techniques
  666. 20:20we will talk about more about what is
  667. 20:22different between quantitative and
  668. 20:23qualitative
  669. 20:24and then we see that analysis then
  670. 20:26modeling then deployment then
  671. 20:28prototyping
  672. 20:29is there and a lot of technology is
  673. 20:32coming up like machine learning
  674. 20:33artificial intelligence
  675. 20:35blockchain technology something which
  676. 20:36was you know which was started with a
  677. 20:39with a bitcoin or virtual currencies now
  678. 20:42it's going to play a very important role
  679. 20:43in research
  680. 20:44we will definitely throw a light on that
  681. 20:46and internet of thing is there so these
  682. 20:48are certain you know
  683. 20:49the budgets which are coming up in a
  684. 20:51present scenario
  685. 20:52and talk about that how the things are
  686. 20:54going to be changed and these cutting
  687. 20:55edge technologies you observe that
  688. 20:57some way it's work as a in enablers and
  689. 21:01when you're talking about you know the
  690. 21:02use of technology in research oh
  691. 21:04you have to you have to you know take in
  692. 21:06a very positive manner and you have to
  693. 21:08see that how how it is going to help the
  694. 21:10researchers it's not
  695. 21:12it's and one more important thing that
  696. 21:14that that could be required that could
  697. 21:16be you know
  698. 21:16uh you know known to the researchers
  699. 21:19that
  700. 21:20that they always think technology is the
  701. 21:23enabler it's not like that they
  702. 21:24should depend on the technology because
  703. 21:27the
  704. 21:28the backbone of any research is the
  705. 21:30literatures or the
  706. 21:31review of literature and if the
  707. 21:32literature review is not going to be
  708. 21:34done in a proper manner
  709. 21:35and there are certain modus operandi
  710. 21:37there are certain mythology there are
  711. 21:38certain procedures
  712. 21:39which can navigate the researchers that
  713. 21:41how you are going to review the
  714. 21:42literatures because if you start
  715. 21:44exploring the literatures on the
  716. 21:45particular domain like in consume as far
  717. 21:48as the consumer behavior is concerned or
  718. 21:49you know the
  719. 21:50e-commerce portal is concerned or you
  720. 21:52know the research on
  721. 21:54on the on the university students
  722. 21:57who are you know pursuing their
  723. 21:58education through online so
  724. 22:00and what their opinion about that how
  725. 22:02whether this virtual education is good
  726. 22:04or you know the brick and mortar
  727. 22:05education is good
  728. 22:07or you know it could be having a blended
  729. 22:08model so
  730. 22:10and the there is a paradigm shift now
  731. 22:13and taste about the consumers or taste
  732. 22:14about the learners are changing
  733. 22:16so somewhere we we are you know we we
  734. 22:19think what this virtual education is
  735. 22:20going to play a very important role
  736. 22:22and somewhere you know this brick and
  737. 22:23mortar education is quite good so how
  738. 22:26and somewhere even the amalgamation is
  739. 22:27very important so how
  740. 22:29this combination is going to come that
  741. 22:31is that is more important so this
  742. 22:33require research
  743. 22:34and how the and as far as the teachers
  744. 22:37are concerned how the instructors are
  745. 22:38going to be linked with the with the
  746. 22:40learners that is also more important so
  747. 22:42research is is having you know a
  748. 22:45different
  749. 22:45shape and kind and it could be it could
  750. 22:48be you know
  751. 22:49of of of various ways so
  752. 22:52and that is where the niche is going to
  753. 22:54matter because if you are going to do
  754. 22:55the research
  755. 22:56and if you are going to find the topic
  756. 22:58which is quite contemporary in nature
  757. 23:00and there is no repetitions
  758. 23:01now the million dollar question is that
  759. 23:03say i am a researcher
  760. 23:05and located in india and and
  761. 23:08and somebody else is doing the research
  762. 23:10in other part of the word and somewhere
  763. 23:11there is synonymity
  764. 23:12in the topic and now and i
  765. 23:16when i so i am how i am able to know
  766. 23:18that that
  767. 23:19the research which i am which i am doing
  768. 23:22could be
  769. 23:22more innovative and it is not going to
  770. 23:24redundant in the coming days
  771. 23:25so uh this this is where you know the
  772. 23:28literature is going to play a very
  773. 23:29important role
  774. 23:31if you have if you have you know
  775. 23:34strategically go through the literatures
  776. 23:37or
  777. 23:37explore the gap then you can find out
  778. 23:40that
  779. 23:40who are the people who have written
  780. 23:42their articles and and
  781. 23:44because today trent talks about the
  782. 23:47technology and
  783. 23:48whatever you know the writing is there
  784. 23:50that is available on the web
  785. 23:51so when people write the articles when
  786. 23:53people you know float their articles
  787. 23:55they put you know their footfall on the
  788. 23:58web
  789. 23:59which could be cited which could be you
  790. 24:00know appreciated by
  791. 24:03by the different uh authors or different
  792. 24:05leaders so
  793. 24:06from there you able to know that the
  794. 24:08trend is this
  795. 24:09and similar kind research is going on so
  796. 24:12in india the biggest challenge is that
  797. 24:15still we we believe in the creating the
  798. 24:18replica of
  799. 24:19what what you know the western world had
  800. 24:21done so
  801. 24:22uh if you talk about the good
  802. 24:23institutions if you talk about you know
  803. 24:25the
  804. 24:26upcoming institutions we are still
  805. 24:29you know uh follow this kind of
  806. 24:32procedures where
  807. 24:33whatever the contemporary research which
  808. 24:35had been done in the western world
  809. 24:36we try to create a replica of that that
  810. 24:39is no doubt a good thing but
  811. 24:40but we have to see how we are going to
  812. 24:43do the replica like you know
  813. 24:44the e-commerce trend was there in in
  814. 24:46western world in
  815. 24:48uh maybe a decade back or two decades
  816. 24:51back but in india what happened
  817. 24:52this is a phenomena which had recently
  818. 24:55been started
  819. 24:56maybe maybe maybe five years or seven
  820. 24:58eight years
  821. 24:59so so this this trend had come up now
  822. 25:03if you are going to create a replica of
  823. 25:05the research which had been done by
  824. 25:07by the by the by the foreign
  825. 25:10academicians
  826. 25:11ah and you will find out that there must
  827. 25:13be certain change
  828. 25:15there there are you know uh
  829. 25:18spending habits which are which are
  830. 25:20different from from the western world
  831. 25:22we still believe in you know the the
  832. 25:24legal tender or the or the paper
  833. 25:26currencies
  834. 25:26whereas they more believe in plastic
  835. 25:28money when we are talking about the
  836. 25:30plastic money in india they are talking
  837. 25:32about you know the wallets
  838. 25:33when we are talking about the wallets in
  839. 25:34india they are talking about the virtual
  840. 25:36currencies so
  841. 25:37what i mean to say that this kind of
  842. 25:40trend had
  843. 25:41somewhat you know deviate the research
  844. 25:43because the habits of the consumers that
  845. 25:45the the the inclination of the consumers
  846. 25:48towards towards the buying
  847. 25:50or you know other things which is
  848. 25:53changing with the
  849. 25:54with their so this is a trend so if you
  850. 25:57if you are going to initiate a research
  851. 25:59if you are going to do a research in
  852. 26:00this particular domain
  853. 26:02you have to see that this kind of habits
  854. 26:05also need to be imbibed if if if we are
  855. 26:08going to imbibe this kind of habit
  856. 26:10ultimately this could be a research
  857. 26:13which could be more genuine in nature
  858. 26:14so genuinity is is very important
  859. 26:16because
  860. 26:18because if the if the first-hand
  861. 26:19information need to be collected from
  862. 26:22the individual it should be collected
  863. 26:24from their heart and and when you're
  864. 26:26when you're sending
  865. 26:27you know the floating the information
  866. 26:29when you're floating the questionnaires
  867. 26:30to the individuals you find out that the
  868. 26:33majority of time you know the
  869. 26:34questionnaires are filled by someone
  870. 26:36else
  871. 26:36so you won't get you know the real time
  872. 26:39um
  873. 26:40uh information so that is more important
  874. 26:42to get the generality the
  875. 26:44and when you're in the process of
  876. 26:45collecting the first-hand information in
  877. 26:46the form of primary data
  878. 26:48that that need to be taken care so there
  879. 26:50are there are certain
  880. 26:52methodologies which are playing a very
  881. 26:53important role in the present scenario
  882. 26:56and the very good example is the
  883. 26:58e-commerce company examples and
  884. 26:59when they when they sell any product
  885. 27:02from their portal
  886. 27:04the usually people used to log in and
  887. 27:05buy the product and
  888. 27:07when they buy the product they give
  889. 27:09their certain opinions
  890. 27:10and these opinions are are you know
  891. 27:12taken care by them in a very
  892. 27:15in a very short span it's not like that
  893. 27:17they extract all the information at one
  894. 27:19shot
  895. 27:20so somewhere what happened that they in
  896. 27:22the beginning stage takes
  897. 27:24just about what exactly you feel about
  898. 27:26the product and
  899. 27:27and how was your you know opinion about
  900. 27:30the product so this kind of general
  901. 27:32questions because
  902. 27:33no being a consumer they don't have time
  903. 27:35to you know fill
  904. 27:3610 not you know 20 or or you know the
  905. 27:39numerous questions so
  906. 27:40rather than you know putting all the
  907. 27:43questions in one shot
  908. 27:44they have just focus on two three
  909. 27:46questions and gradually they can
  910. 27:48take the opinion so this is one of the
  911. 27:49way by which the things are going to be
  912. 27:51done and
  913. 27:52mythology is going to play a very
  914. 27:53important role so if you talk about the
  915. 27:55metallurgy research
  916. 27:56you will find out that mythology
  917. 27:57research is a research about the way we
  918. 27:59design
  919. 28:00conduct analyze report and interpret
  920. 28:02research studies
  921. 28:04and conducting mythology research
  922. 28:05studies will regenerate evidence
  923. 28:07improvement in the way we design and
  924. 28:09study so mythology research is research
  925. 28:11on research
  926. 28:12so that is very true because when you
  927. 28:14when you start doing your research
  928. 28:16and you and the journey started with you
  929. 28:19know
  930. 28:19reading uh literature which which is you
  931. 28:21know uh
  932. 28:23research or uh or generated by the
  933. 28:26by the academicians or by the authors
  934. 28:29then you able to know
  935. 28:30that there are certain things which need
  936. 28:32to be incorporated or imbibe into it
  937. 28:35then finally what happened you start
  938. 28:38you know try to put certain terms which
  939. 28:41are
  940. 28:41judicious based which are you know
  941. 28:44the having certain features
  942. 28:48from there the this model need to be
  943. 28:51done
  944. 28:51so this is basically you know the
  945. 28:54research which talks about
  946. 28:56that problem identification review of
  947. 28:58available literature then problem
  948. 29:00formulation
  949. 29:01writing a research proposal deciding the
  950. 29:03methodology then sample selection and
  951. 29:05preparation of tools of data collection
  952. 29:07collecting the data analyzing and
  953. 29:09interpreting the data and writing the
  954. 29:10research report so what i
  955. 29:12observe what you what what we observe
  956. 29:14that research starts with the problem
  957. 29:17and end with the end with the end with
  958. 29:19the final report
  959. 29:20so when you are going to talk about the
  960. 29:23final report you find out
  961. 29:25that that whatever the research you have
  962. 29:28done
  963. 29:29on the basis of the the problem which
  964. 29:31you have diagnosed
  965. 29:32then review of available literature
  966. 29:35because
  967. 29:36uh this available literature is more
  968. 29:37important and
  969. 29:39when you're exploring a number of
  970. 29:40literature you come to know
  971. 29:42uh that there must be certain gaps and
  972. 29:45this can give you the gap
  973. 29:46and when you go more into the gap you
  974. 29:49find out
  975. 29:50that that on the basis of the gap
  976. 29:54you frame certain objectives and these
  977. 29:56objectives are
  978. 29:57are somewhere you know converted into
  979. 30:00hypotheses and then questionnaires and
  980. 30:02finally the things are going to be done
  981. 30:05so these procedures definitely we are
  982. 30:06going to talk about and
  983. 30:08then um sample selection
  984. 30:12because today as i talked about the data
  985. 30:14is
  986. 30:15quite gigantic in nature and it's really
  987. 30:16cumbersome to
  988. 30:18to talk about the data as a whole
  989. 30:21so so that is where you know the
  990. 30:23sampling is going to play a very
  991. 30:24important role
  992. 30:25and how you're going to collect the
  993. 30:27sample how you're going to extract the
  994. 30:29information from the universal
  995. 30:30and um concentrating on on the certain
  996. 30:33portions so
  997. 30:35there are certain procedures about the
  998. 30:36sample and sampling could be
  999. 30:38uh done in a in a very systematic manner
1000. 30:42so that all the judicials which are
  1001. 30:43talking about if you're
  1002. 30:44researching on a parent databases and
1003. 30:46you're talking more about the
  1004. 30:47technological enabled commerce or
  1005. 30:49e-commerce
1006. 30:50then you have to take the you know
1007. 30:53certain cities or the states which
  1008. 30:55revolves around that particular
1009. 30:57country so and if you eliminate any of
  1010. 31:00the cities or
1011. 31:01or the state your research would be uh
1012. 31:04not fool proof so that is something
1013. 31:06which is there in collecting the data
1014. 31:08analyzing and interpreting the data and
  1015. 31:10then research reports so
1016. 31:12this is all about research this is just
1017. 31:14you know the curtain result to
1018. 31:15research and business as such and
1019. 31:17definitely we are going to talk more
  1020. 31:19about in a
1021. 31:19in a coming sessions so roughly we have
  1022. 31:22almost you know
1023. 31:24uh 40 to 50 lectures on on this research
  1024. 31:27methodology
1025. 31:28and which revolves around talking about
  1026. 31:30you know the research
1027. 31:31and methodology then all the domains
  1028. 31:33which which you know
1029. 31:34which is part and parcel of research
1030. 31:36starting from literature review then
  1031. 31:38data analysis
1032. 31:39interpretation and other other topics
  1033. 31:42which somewhere you know
1034. 31:44going to help the researchers or you
1035. 31:46know terminologies you are definitely
1036. 31:47going to talk about that
1037. 31:48so uh in our second session we will
1038. 31:52we will touch more uh aspects of
1039. 31:55of of this research and gradually we
1040. 31:58will go on and on thank you very much
  1041. 32:00[Music]
  1042. 32:13you
