  1. 0:00this is the hoof gp youtube channel and
  2. 0:02my name is graham parker we are just
  3. 0:04about to get a little graphic i think
  4. 0:07this cow's food looks extremely sore so
  5. 0:10if you don't like graphic things this
  6. 0:11video probably isn't for you so move on
  7. 0:14to the next one for everybody else click
  8. 0:15the subscribe button below and enjoy the
  9. 0:17rest of this video
  10. 0:20[Music]
  11. 0:27[Applause]
  12. 0:29[Music]
  13. 0:43again begun begun to look at it properly
  14. 0:46anyway enough talking i don't want to
  15. 0:47fit in there too long let's crack on and
  16. 0:49see what we can do for this pair of cows
  17. 0:51food to be honest i can't actually see
  18. 0:54where the plus is coming from but i can
  19. 0:56see some bulbous material here so i'm
  20. 0:58assuming it's from in here
  21. 1:02[Music]
  22. 1:06before we start actually i'd just like
  23. 1:07to point out some people say these
  24. 1:09farmers don't look after the cows so
  25. 1:11well and that's where they get these
  26. 1:12problems
  27. 1:13my heart's falling down but just look at
  28. 1:15this cow's food it's in almost perfect
  29. 1:17condition and we've not actually trimmed
  30. 1:19it this cow would have been pulled out
  31. 1:20in a couple of months time just for a
  32. 1:22little reshape because she doesn't need
  33. 1:24it right now her feet look great
  34. 1:26something has happened to cause this
  35. 1:28problem
  36. 1:29so her feet are actually balanced
  37. 1:31they're nice and level there's not no
  38. 1:32material whatsoever to take away from
  39. 1:35this outside edge or from the toes
  40. 1:37they're almost perfect actually what we
  41. 1:40will do is model out this area and not
  42. 1:43go straight to the problem because
  43. 1:45this is something that needs to be done
  44. 1:46just to check that there's no issue
  45. 1:48underneath all of this horn here
  46. 1:52so we still do all of our steps in the
  47. 1:54right order it's just so happens i've
  48. 1:56skipped step one and two which would be
  49. 1:58making the length correct and making the
  50. 2:00height correct i haven't actually
  51. 2:01skipped them they're just not needed
  52. 2:05aha now here looks like what the problem
  53. 2:08has been this is called a soul fracture
  54. 2:11and it happens because this part of the
  55. 2:13foot is called periopal horn so it's
  56. 2:15really soft and pliable and then this is
  57. 2:17just normal soul horn and basically the
  58. 2:20difference between the two are a thing
  59. 2:22called tubules now tubules are what
  60. 2:23makes kerosene or hoof horn really
  61. 2:26strong and there are far more tubules in
  62. 2:28the solar horn than there are in the
  63. 2:30periopal horn that's why the periapple
  64. 2:32horn is much more flexible it acts like
  65. 2:34a shock absorber the only thing is that
  66. 2:37means that when these cows stand for
  67. 2:38long periods of time
  68. 2:40this horn here which is less tubules
  69. 2:42starts to split away from this horn here
  70. 2:44which has more tubules at the junction
  71. 2:46and it splits back at 45 degrees so i'm
  72. 2:49expecting to trim from here back at 45
  73. 2:52degrees and find an abscess in here
  74. 2:55that's what i would imagine has happened
  75. 2:56anyway scotland is known for having wet
  76. 2:59windy and wild weather but we have had a
  77. 3:01really hot summer especially around five
  78. 3:03or six weeks ago and that means this cow
  79. 3:06would be standing up for long periods of
  80. 3:07time to cool off because cows don't
  81. 3:09sweat very well they stand up to let the
  82. 3:10heat dissipate from their bodies for
  83. 3:12long periods of time and that stresses
  84. 3:15the inside cloth that's probably what's
  85. 3:17happened to this card
  86. 3:23[Music]
  87. 3:35can you see how it's tracking back at 45
  88. 3:38degrees fortunately for this car these
  89. 3:40are pretty easy to solve
  90. 3:43even though i would imagine it's just
  91. 3:44about to get a little graphic
  92. 3:47[Music]
  93. 3:51oh
  94. 3:54[Music]
  95. 4:00there we go all of that pus infused
  96. 4:02blood
  97. 4:03being released will just take a huge
  98. 4:05amount of pressure off this cow and
  99. 4:07relieve pain just by itself but we're
  100. 4:08not gonna stop there we're gonna take
  101. 4:10away all of this over burdening horn
  102. 4:16[Music]
  103. 5:00so
  104. 5:04[Music]
  105. 5:19hmm
  106. 5:26[Music]
  107. 5:28so
  108. 5:30[Music]
  109. 5:37[Applause]
  110. 5:43[Applause]
  111. 5:50[Music]
  112. 6:07[Music]
  113. 6:10it seems weird but trimming a cow's foot
  114. 6:13like this is seriously satisfying you
  115. 6:15drift off in your own little world
  116. 6:17knowing that you're doing this carrot
  117. 6:19some good and she'll be walking much
  118. 6:21better because of it
  119. 6:23there's a really hard bit of horn right
  120. 6:26there and that'll just keep insulting
  121. 6:29the corium and hurting it
  122. 6:31so i need to get rid of that sharp edge
  123. 6:38so we'll just quickly put a block on
  124. 6:39here before treating this with iodine
  125. 6:42and salicylic acid
  126. 6:45you just go
  127. 6:46as easy as that our sprayer is dead so
  128. 6:50when we pour the iron
  129. 6:53it's an expensive way of doing it isn't
  130. 6:55it so obviously you didn't see this cow
  131. 6:57walking in
  132. 6:58we can't video every single cow
  133. 7:00unfortunately and i'll just need to
  134. 7:02assure you that she was barely touching
  135. 7:04the ground with this imagine
  136. 7:06your foot having that amount of pus
  137. 7:07inside it and every time you touch the
  138. 7:09ground plus is being squatted out of
  139. 7:12your foot you wouldn't want to touch the
  140. 7:13ground like that so hopefully we've made
  141. 7:15a big difference to this weekend and
  142. 7:17with that foot all wrapped up that's us
  143. 7:19finished with this video guys if you
  144. 7:22like this video feel free to share it
  145. 7:24all over facebook cheers guys catch you
  146. 7:26next time
  147. 7:28[Music]
  148. 7:31you
