- 0:00BlackBerry fans, listen up. Hey guys,
- 0:03it's me Ola and in this video I've got
- 0:05something kind of special to show you.
- 0:08We all know the legend itself, the
- 0:10BlackBerry Bold 9900. The premium metal
- 0:14frame, the glass weave back cover, its
- 0:17perfect keyboard and overall premium
- 0:20design. It was the first Bold series
- 0:22phone to feature a touchscreen without
- 0:25even compromising on the keyboard
- 0:27experience.
- 0:29And in my opinion, it was the last real
- 0:31BlackBerry before BlackBerry 10 came and
- 0:34before eventually its mobile device
- 0:36division completely shut down. But
- 0:40another thing a lot of people loved
- 0:41about the Bold 9900 was BlackBerry OS 7.
- 0:46Its efficiency, ease of use, the look of
- 0:49it, the shortcuts, and so on. And today
- 0:52I show you how I kind of brought that
- 0:54back in today's world. So let's dive
- 0:57right into it.
- 0:58Step number one is you need an Android
- 1:01phone and to make it the most
- 1:02convincing, use an Android phone that
- 1:05has a physical QWERTY keyboard. So
- 1:07something like the Titan 2 or Titan 2
- 1:08Elite from Unihertz or something like
- 1:11the Qinwa Q25 which is a resto-modded
- 1:15BlackBerry Classic. And using this
- 1:18it makes it almost impossible to
- 1:20distinguish from the old days.
- 1:23Step number two is to head over to
- 1:25rightlauncher.com
- 1:26and download the linked APK file
- 1:29to download the launcher. And if you
- 1:31don't want to do that, you could also
- 1:32head over to the Google Play Store and
- 1:34download it there, but it could be that
- 1:36the app won't be available for your
- 1:39device on the Play Store.
- 1:41You will find the link to that page in
- 1:43the description box below.
- 1:45Step number three is to install it and
- 1:48boom, now you have BlackBerry OS 7 on
- 1:51your Android phone.
- 1:53Well,
- 1:53kind of. I know it's just a launcher,
- 1:56but I do think that it does mimic a lot
- 1:58of the functionality that BlackBerry OS
- 2:007 had back in the day quite nicely. And
- 2:03to make it the most convincing, you
- 2:05definitely need to download the
- 2:06BlackBerry OS 7 icon pack that you can
- 2:09also find on rightlauncher.com
- 2:12and then install it on the launcher.
- 2:15And next to the icon pack, you should
- 2:16also install something like a wallpaper
- 2:19from BlackBerry OS 7 that you had back
- 2:21in the day and the launcher actually has
- 2:23quite a lot to choose from. And now,
- 2:25this phone could easily fool somebody
- 2:28into thinking that you're actually using
- 2:30a BlackBerry from back in 2011. And
- 2:33here's the overview of the features.
- 2:36On the main screen, you've got your app
- 2:37drawer in the bottom partitioned into
- 2:39your favorites, recent, [music]
- 2:41and all apps just like it was in 2011.
- 2:45You can easily add apps to your
- 2:47favorites by long pressing on them or
- 2:49rearrange them in the drawer. And you
- 2:51can easily change the default category
- 2:53that is showing when turning it up in
- 2:55the settings. And for me, that is the
- 2:58favorites, of course. In the middle, you
- 3:00can have your upcoming calendar events,
- 3:02your set alarm clock, the weather, or
- 3:05the current track you're playing. And I
- 3:07think it's quite nice to have that all
- 3:09in the middle of your screen and I think
- 3:12it's the same way as it was back in the
- 3:14day. [music]
- 3:15Above that, you have the settings just
- 3:17like on the original BlackBerry OS 7.
- 3:20So, for example, your ring settings. And
- 3:22when you press [music] it, I really like
- 3:24that you also have a BlackBerry OS 7
- 3:26like settings menu for that. So, I think
- 3:29it's cool that they adapted the design
- 3:31for that. Next to that, you have your
- 3:33notifications right at a glance, and
- 3:35when you press on them, your
- 3:36notification drop-down opens. And I like
- 3:39that it's so minimal and easy to use.
- 3:42And on the right, you'll find a search
- 3:43icon like a loop that lets you search
- 3:46for apps and contacts, which is pretty
- 3:48neat.
- 3:51On the top right, you have your settings
- 3:53and those are mainly the settings for
- 3:55the launcher and in there you can change
- 3:57things like the wallpaper and as I said,
- 3:59they do have quite a good selection of
- 4:01OS 7 wallpapers right there, which I
- 4:03like.
- 4:04Also in there, you can change the icons
- 4:06and appearance and also as I said, I
- 4:09would always choose the OS 7 icon pack
- 4:12>> [music]
- 4:12>> just to make it more authentic and seem
- 4:14like the old days.
- 4:16You can change multiple things like the
- 4:18accent color or the notification dot.
- 4:21But what I like is to hide the status
- 4:23bar on top and put the battery on the
- 4:25home screen to get an even better OS 7
- 4:29experience.
- 4:32>> [music]
- 4:33>> Something that is currently only
- 4:35exclusive to the Titan 2 devices, so the
- 4:38Titan 2 or the Titan 2 Elite by Unihertz
- 4:41is to make the keyboard act as a
- 4:44trackpad like it was on the Bold 9900.
- 4:48And that actually works so nicely. You
- 4:51can select and actually open it with
- 4:53tapping on the keyboard, although that
- 4:55didn't work for me, but that could be a
- 4:57settings issue.
- 4:58>> [music]
- 4:59>> I would love for them to activate this
- 5:01feature on the Sinwan Q25 as it already
- 5:04has that trackpad and currently it's
- 5:06just not a feature that is put into the
- 5:08software kind of and the standard
- 5:11trackpad functionality just isn't ideal
- 5:14[music] for that launcher. But that is
- 5:16something they could definitely include
- 5:18in an update. [music] So that's already
- 5:20it for this video. Kind of a fun video
- 5:22and cool feature to have on a physical
- 5:25BlackBerry keyboard device, but you
- 5:26could also of course install it on a
- 5:29regular Android phone to make it feel
- 5:31like BlackBerry Torch for example. So if
- 5:34you like this video, definitely make
- 5:35sure to like it. Leave a comment if
- 5:37you'll install this launcher on your
- 5:39phone. Also make sure you definitely
- 5:41subscribe to this channel. We're about
- 5:43to reach 50,000 subscribers. And when I
- 5:46reach the 50,000 subscribers, I will do
- 5:49a giveaway and I will give away either a
- 5:52Titan Two Elite by Unihertz or a Click
- 5:55Communicator and the winner can decide
- 5:58what he wants.
- 5:59Also, definitely make sure to follow me
- 6:01on my social media channels, Instagram
- 6:03and Twitter. On Instagram, we're about
- 6:05to reach [music] 20,000 followers, so
- 6:08let's see what I do when we reach that.
- 6:11And yeah, that's been it for this video.
- 6:13Definitely stick around and we'll see
- 6:14you guys next week. Until then, bye-bye.
