2. 0:03half years on mississippi's death row
3. 0:05for a crime i did not commit

5. 0:08in 1989 i was convicted of killing my
6. 0:11son
7. 0:13when i made it to death row i was 19
8. 0:15years old
9. 0:17they put me in a 6x9 cell no bigger than
10. 0:19your bathroom
11. 0:20it's like being buried on the ground
12. 0:22with the lid on top of you
13. 0:24and you can't breathe that's what that
14. 0:26throw is like

16. 0:32when i first got to death row i lost
17. 0:33hope i was angry with god i gave up for
18. 0:36like three years
19. 0:38why did he let that happen to me when i
20. 0:41was only trying to save my son when we
21. 0:44had the retrial they found out that my
22. 0:46son had heart problems kidney problems
23. 0:48and chronic bowel syndrome it was
24. 0:49nothing that i did to cause his death
25. 0:52even though i was exonerated my son's
26. 0:54death certificate still says he was
27. 0:55he was murdered you know i never got to
28. 0:58grieve him
29. 0:59that was one of the hardest parts for me
30. 1:01about death row
31. 1:04when i was exonerated that made me the
32. 1:06first woman in the united states
33. 1:08to be exonerated from death row
34. 1:13unless you go through it yourself you
35. 1:14just don't know
36. 1:16what it does to a human being to take
37. 1:18their freedoms away and
38. 1:20accuse them of something that they
39. 1:21didn't do it's torture
40. 1:23that's pretty much what it is you got
41. 1:25innocent people
42. 1:27throwed us on death row and said okay
43. 1:29we're going to kill you
44. 1:30and then you find out oh my bad we made
45. 1:32a mistake
46. 1:34when you look for jobs the door is
47. 1:35closing your face because it's still on
48. 1:37your record
49. 1:38are you really exonerated no you're not
50. 1:42exonerated

52. 1:48how can you heal you can't and i think i
53. 1:51struggle with that
54. 1:52i mean i don't think that's going to go
55. 1:59away
