- 0:01my name is ray crone
- 0:04in 1992 i was sentenced to death at the
- 0:05age of 35.
- 0:09i spent almost three years on death row
- 0:13and i was released in 2002. to start my
- 0:16life all over again
- 0:17at the age of 45.
- 0:20i didn't go in at 18 years old i didn't
- 0:22go in as a 20 year old kid
- 0:24i didn't go in coming from a broken
- 0:25family or a difficult childhood
- 0:29i did almost seven years in the military
- 0:32i i was working for the post office to
- 0:33tie my rests and i had a personal pride
- 0:35in myself of who i was and what i
- 0:37accomplished
- 0:39years when i was in prison when people
- 0:41seemed to care about me was my family
- 0:42people knew me because
- 0:43everybody else thought i was a murderer
- 0:44and so i deserve death
- 0:47that's kind of the way our justice
- 0:48system works you know we convict
- 0:49somebody of something and people say oh
- 0:51good kill him and they don't want to
- 0:52know any of the details the facts or
- 0:53even if he is guilty
- 0:59and thankfully my family and friends
- 1:01didn't give up and give in and that gave
- 1:03me the strength to keep going
- 1:07my family was able to get that dna
- 1:09testing
- 1:11that's when the doors opened up for me
- 1:12with a match to a man that lived right
- 1:14down the road from the murder
- 1:16i was innocent god knew i was innocent
- 1:18and my family and friends stood by me
- 1:19that whole 10 years
- 1:21[Music]
- 1:25you know i can't take away the
- 1:26frustration of the different
- 1:28negative emotions that come from being
- 1:30locked up for those years
- 1:32but maybe i could help lessen it maybe i
- 1:34could even ease
- 1:35it somewhat by talking about it by
- 1:37sharing my story with others and knowing
- 1:39that it meant something to them
- 1:46i think being able to talk about it and
- 1:47having somebody appreciate it somebody
- 1:49come up and
- 1:50and say thank you you really made a
- 1:51difference in my life
- 1:56it's not work it's a therapy for me it's
- 1:59almost like a religious experience an
- 2:00epiphany to say yes something good did
- 2:02come
- 2:03from that horrible 10 years
- 2:13i'm thankful to help other men and women
- 2:14until they've been on death row for
- 2:16something they didn't do
- 2:18and you should never give up when you
- 2:19know you're right
- 2:22[Music]
