  1. 0:00What if you could scan a space in
  2. 0:02minutes and turn it into a fully styled
  3. 0:04architectural drawing set the same day?
  4. 0:06From laser scan to complete drawing set,
  5. 0:09here's how to do it accurately,
  6. 0:11efficiently, and fully cloud-based. In
  7. 0:14this video, I'll show you how to go from
  8. 0:15a real world space scan to a fully
  9. 0:17detailed architectural drawing set using
  10. 0:19IMAP and Rayon Design. First, we'll see
  11. 0:22how to capture a space with IMAP's fast
  12. 0:25and precise laser scanning workflow.
  13. 0:27Then we'll export the scan as a DXF and
  14. 0:30transform it inside of Rayon into a
  15. 0:32clean, styled, presentation ready
  16. 0:35drawing set, all just in a few steps.
  17. 0:37[music] So, let's get started.
  18. 0:42Let's start by reviewing IMAP's scanner.
  19. 0:44It's an affordable, fast, and precise 2D
  20. 0:47laser scanner designed [music] for
  21. 0:48remodeling professionals who need 100%
  22. 0:50reliable measurements with a lightweight
  23. 0:52process. IMAP captures floor plans in
  24. 0:56minutes, helping you measure every space
  25. 0:58with confidence and save hours on
  26. 0:59[music] site. Set the IMAP on its tripod
  27. 1:02to the center of the room. Press one
  28. 1:04button and it will scan the entire space
  29. 1:06with plus or minus 2 mm accuracy at a
  30. 1:09range of 30 m in under 3 minutes. At the
  31. 1:12same time, the device captures five
  32. 1:14wide-angle reference photos to
  33. 1:15understand the space at 360°. IMAP can
  34. 1:19take horizontal scans in just one tap.
  35. 1:21Or by rotating it on its tripod, you can
  36. 1:24take vertical scans that allow you to
  37. 1:26measure ceiling heights, roof slopes,
  38. 1:28and stair angles. By combining them in
  39. 1:30your drawing software, you can create
  40. 1:31detailed 3D or 2D models. You can also
  41. 1:34control it via your phone using the IMAP
  42. 1:37Connect app. Use the built-in bubble
  43. 1:39level to ensure IMAP is level before
  44. 1:41measuring. And when the scan is done,
  45. 1:43it's uploaded straight to the cloud. No
  46. 1:46SD cards, no cables, no waiting. That
  47. 1:49means your files are instantly available
  48. 1:50to your team. Moreover, with a simple
  49. 1:53sharable link, anyone you [music] choose
  50. 1:55can view the project wherever they are,
  51. 1:57so everyone in the project is in sync.
  52. 1:59Its algorithm automatically stitches the
  53. 2:01scanners together for you, instantly
  54. 2:03generating an accurate 2D layout that's
  55. 2:05detailed enough to capture crooked
  56. 2:07angles and walls, door jambs, tile
  57. 2:10lines, window frames, and more. Every
  58. 2:12measurement point is linked to its
  59. 2:14original reference photo, so you'll
  60. 2:16always know exactly where it was taken.
  61. 2:18You can even use IMAP outdoors with a
  62. 2:20range of up to 25 m. Measure room
  63. 2:23angles, distances between any points,
  64. 2:25wall thicknesses, and room areas, so you
  65. 2:27can create quick estimates, and share
  66. 2:29measurements instantly with your team.
  67. 2:31With the automatic floor plan feature,
  68. 2:33you can accurately see wall thicknesses
  69. 2:35and easily place window openings and
  70. 2:37doors with a single click. Once your
  71. 2:39edits are complete, you can export them
  72. 2:41to your favorite drawing software. IMAP
  73. 2:43works seamlessly with drafting and
  74. 2:44design software thanks to supporting
  75. 2:46DWG, STL, and IFC files. So, [music] now
  76. 2:50you've got a glimpse of how IMAP works.
  77. 2:52Let's export a scan measurement as a DXF
  78. 2:55and import it into Rayon Design to turn
  79. 2:57it into our full architectural drawing
  80. 2:59set [music] in just three simple steps.
  81. 3:02So, let's jump in. Let's start by
  82. 3:03importing the DXF file, scaling it
  83. 3:05properly, and cleaning it up so we can
  84. 3:07work efficiently and create this
  85. 3:09professional document set. First, I'll
  86. 3:11import the DXF file generated by IMAP.
  87. 3:14We'll go to import, and I'll find it in
  88. 3:18my downloads, which is a uh DXF file.
  89. 3:22So, you can see here there are a number
  90. 3:23of toggles that I can turn off and on.
  91. 3:25Um, I don't want to choose any of those,
  92. 3:26so I'll go to import. So, this just
  93. 3:28takes a second to convert the model. So
  94. 3:30you can see here that since this comes
  95. 3:32through a 3D scan, the geometry is very
  96. 3:34accurate, but it does also include these
  97. 3:36redundant lines. So first thing we want
  98. 3:38to do is make sure that the scan is
  99. 3:40scaled correctly. So I'm going to choose
  100. 3:43[music]
  101. 3:44two points. So these two main wall
  102. 3:47points here that see that it's 10.29 m.
  103. 3:50So that's fine. So we're coming in in
  104. 3:52meters. So we'll come in and press
  105. 3:54continue. So now we know that this has
  106. 3:56been imported um to scale and that
  107. 3:58ensures that everything we draw, walls,
  108. 4:00openings, furniture, they'll all be
  109. 4:02precise. Now we can clean this up using
  110. 4:05the layer panel. So the one thing that I
  111. 4:07want to do is be able to separate out
  112. 4:09the very accurate but obviously messy
  113. 4:13overlay layers into the more um refined
  114. 4:16floor plan layers. So you can see here
  115. 4:19I'm going to create a new group and I'm
  116. 4:22going to call that import.
  117. 4:25And I'm going to drag all of these
  118. 4:27layers that aren't the one that say
  119. 4:30floor plans into that import subfolder.
  120. 4:34So then I just have those two folders.
  121. 4:36So floor plan [music] and import. I'll
  122. 4:38select that as my active layer and I
  123. 4:40will turn off my import layer. And what
  124. 4:43I'm left with is that cleaned up floor
  125. 4:45plan. So that's with all of those input
  126. 4:48datas being rationalized by IMAP and
  127. 4:51turned into this 2D drawn information.
  128. 4:54So that gives us this clean working
  129. 4:56environment whilst also keeping the
  130. 4:58original data intact. Now that our plan
  131. 5:00is scaled and cleaned up, we can set the
  132. 5:03foundations. There are two ways that I
  133. 5:05would approach this and you can choose
  134. 5:07the one that best fits your workflow.
  135. 5:09Okay, so option one is to simply work
  136. 5:11with these vector lines, the ones that
  137. 5:13have been imported. We know that they're
  138. 5:15accurate and flexible, but we can also
  139. 5:17edit them to show them how exactly we
  140. 5:19[music] want um the drawing to appear.
  141. 5:22We can also delete or refine the line
  142. 5:24styles [music]
  143. 5:25to improve the aesthetic quality say. So
  144. 5:27at the moment, if we click in one, we
  145. 5:29have a current line thickness. So I
  146. 5:32could decide that my external wall wants
  147. 5:35to be thicker. So I can go in there, I
  148. 5:37can increase the thickness of that line,
  149. 5:39and I could say that is my external
  150. 5:44wall style for example and then I could
  151. 5:48tab all of these. Click on there
  152. 5:52and then everything becomes thicker. I
  153. 5:55could also start cleaning out some other
  154. 5:56other elements. So for example, we could
  155. 5:59say actually the lines between the
  156. 6:02windows that show the voids, you know,
  157. 6:05they want to be something lighter like
  158. 6:08so. And then I could just add in
  159. 6:12some lighter lines that show the window
  160. 6:16sill below. Similarly, I could start
  161. 6:19filling if I wanted to. So just using
  162. 6:21the bucket tool which exists down here.
  163. 6:24So we go to bucket and [music] again I
  164. 6:28could set a style. So I could say
  165. 6:31actually this is wool fill and I could
  166. 6:35say that it wants to be a sort of mid
  167. 6:38gray color and that means that any of
  168. 6:41those that I chose would have that same
  169. 6:44fill and that very quickly starts to
  170. 6:48show the drawing very clearly. Similarly
  171. 6:51I can do exactly the same for the
  172. 6:52internal. So I could use the bucket tool
  173. 6:56again
  174. 6:57and I could say the internal areas have
  175. 6:59a tone and you know that could be
  176. 7:02something different. It could be a
  177. 7:04hatch. It could be a pattern you know.
  178. 7:06So for example we could say it's a very
  179. 7:09light [music] crosshatch. We can change
  180. 7:12the scale of that to say
  181. 7:1635 for example.
  182. 7:18And again, I can save that as a as a
  183. 7:22style. So any of these fills, I can just
  184. 7:26hatch that [music] through. And that's a
  185. 7:27very basic floor plan. Now, now that's
  186. 7:30fine. That's a fast workflow for an
  187. 7:32initial design phase or a feasibility.
  188. 7:35But option two would be to redraw the
  189. 7:37wall elements with rayon walls, which
  190. 7:40are inherently smarter and more
  191. 7:42flexible. That's the way I'd um suggest
  192. 7:44you went. So what I want to do now is I
  193. 7:46create a new layer and we'll call this
  194. 7:51existing for example. [music] I can lock
  195. 7:54this layer and now I want to go in and
  196. 7:58just measure 37. So I can set up a ray
  197. 8:01on wall that is [music]
  198. 8:0537.
  199. 8:07That's something nice and bright so I
  200. 8:08can see it. I'll save that as
  201. 8:12uh external
  202. 8:15wall for example [music] and then I can
  203. 8:17start drawing and this is very quickly
  204. 8:20just tracing these elements like that
  205. 8:24and then I can do the same for the
  206. 8:26internal walls [music] as well very
  207. 8:28quickly. So you can see there I can turn
  208. 8:30off my original and now I have all of
  209. 8:32those as smart rayon walls. And then we
  210. 8:35can go in and we can add doors, windows,
  211. 8:38all of those different elements which
  212. 8:39we've had in the block library. So the
  213. 8:40block library is over here. We have all
  214. 8:43of our pre-built blocks. If I want to
  215. 8:45add a window or a door, I can go to
  216. 8:47opening um and I can select what I want.
  217. 8:50So a window or a door. Select that. And
  218. 8:53then I can very quickly
  219. 8:57>> [music]
  220. 8:59>> start putting these into the wall and I
  221. 9:01can even go in and adjust them
  222. 9:04afterwards as well. So, I could turn on
  223. 9:07my floor plan [music]
  224. 9:10and then I can adjust these, snap those
  225. 9:13to those openings, [music] make sure
  226. 9:15everything's nice and accurate. But, it
  227. 9:17just allows you to be a lot quicker and
  228. 9:19smarter with your workflow. I would just
  229. 9:22really recommend it um to future proof
  230. 9:24your work and um be able to use this as
  231. 9:27a workflow moving forward. Now, let's
  232. 9:29take this plan from the simple enclosure
  233. 9:31into something that's fully populated.
  234. 9:33So, we can use things from the block
  235. 9:36library. So, our furniture, symbols,
  236. 9:38trees, people. The really great thing is
  237. 9:41that they're all available in um front,
  238. 9:44side, and top view. So, they're relevant
  239. 9:46for my plans, my sections, and my
  240. 9:48elevations. And you can see here we have
  241. 9:50a variety of, you know, anything you
  242. 9:52would want. Um, a guitar, a bed, um, an
  243. 9:55armchair, an elevation marker. And they
  244. 9:58come in this library of all these
  245. 10:00different subfolders. So things from,
  246. 10:03you know, bedrooms, commercial,
  247. 10:05electrical symbols, gyms, you know,
  248. 10:07anything I would want. For example, if I
  249. 10:09wanted to put some living room layouts
  250. 10:13in, I just very easily drag and drop
  251. 10:16that into the space. And the really good
  252. 10:19thing about these is if I go to open
  253. 10:21just on this left hand side, I can see
  254. 10:24that front and side view which relates
  255. 10:26to my plan which for me is perfect. I
  256. 10:29can do exactly the same thing. Um say I
  257. 10:31wanted to find a bed for example. I
  258. 10:33could just search for [music] bed find
  259. 10:36that in the individual blocks and again
  260. 10:38I can say maybe this one looks good. So
  261. 10:42I can drag and drop that, [music]
  262. 10:44put that in the space. And just as
  263. 10:46before, if I wanted to include that
  264. 10:48front or side view, I've got those here
  265. 10:51as well. And I know that they match that
  266. 10:53plan viewing. The other great thing is
  267. 10:55that Rayan have introduced parametric
  268. 10:57blocks. So let's take a door for
  269. 10:59example. So I can go to my opening and I
  270. 11:03can choose a different block here. Um,
  271. 11:06and let's find a door. So, anything with
  272. 11:09this little symbol here where it says
  273. 11:12parametric, that means it can be swapped
  274. 11:15and changed in terms of its dimensions
  275. 11:17while still retaining its overall um
  276. 11:20geometry. So, let's find a door. Here we
  277. 11:23go. Up here, we'll press select. [music]
  278. 11:25And that means that I can load this in.
  279. 11:28So, let's add a door onto our living
  280. 11:31room. I can choose the direction swing
  281. 11:34of the door. And you can see here that
  282. 11:36where I have these arrows, I can stretch
  283. 11:40this without affecting um or stretching
  284. 11:43the geometry. Everything stays locked in
  285. 11:46that. I can also, you know, increase the
  286. 11:49jam width if I wanted to. So it plays
  287. 11:52perfectly into getting this very
  288. 11:54accurate door position based on our IMAP
  289. 11:57survey. And that works exactly the same
  290. 11:59way as if it was, you know, let's say a
  291. 12:01sliding door for example. So, we can
  292. 12:03select that here and I can say there's a
  293. 12:05sliding door to here. And again, if we
  294. 12:08just zoom in, you can see those arrows.
  295. 12:11So, I can even determine how open or
  296. 12:13closed the sliding door appears on the
  297. 12:15plan, how big overall is, and if I need
  298. 12:19to increase the jam width at all. So,
  299. 12:21they work really, really well. The other
  300. 12:23great thing is that I can now go in and
  301. 12:25start to think of the style of the plan.
  302. 12:28for example. So, I'm just going to hide
  303. 12:30my floor pan behind. And I'm going to
  304. 12:33say [music] actually this style, you
  305. 12:35know, that was fine for when I was
  306. 12:36drawing it, but maybe this wants to be,
  307. 12:39you know, a bit more aesthetically sort
  308. 12:41of considered exactly the same thing
  309. 12:44with [music] this one. I could say maybe
  310. 12:45that wants to be the same color. Same
  311. 12:47with these. And you'll notice that
  312. 12:50anywhere which is saved as a style, I
  313. 12:53just change it in that style tab. And I
  314. 12:54don't need to go through and start
  315. 12:56affecting all the different things. It
  316. 12:57does all of that automatically. Now that
  317. 12:59our base plan and layout are ready,
  318. 13:01let's enhance it. Okay, I've just spent
  319. 13:03a little bit more time adding some
  320. 13:04furniture. You can see some of the trees
  321. 13:06in the background as well. So, the next
  322. 13:08things I want to look at are one adding
  323. 13:11zones. So, that will give you um not
  324. 13:14only texture on the floor plans, but
  325. 13:16also an area. So if I go down here to
  326. 13:18zones, I can very quickly click zones
  327. 13:21into these spaces um and they are
  328. 13:24reading the boundary of those rooms and
  329. 13:26that gives me this overall area amount
  330. 13:29as well. So I can change the tag of this
  331. 13:34to give it a title. See there? And the
  332. 13:38other really good thing is that I can go
  333. 13:39in and I can change the style. So the
  334. 13:41visual style of that as well. So I could
  335. 13:43add in a hatch. Let's say I could add in
  336. 13:47texture maybe. So why don't we add in a
  337. 13:50wooden floor or in the bedrooms we could
  338. 13:54add in a carpet.
  339. 13:57Make sure that these are all set to the
  340. 13:59back of our layer. So we get the
  341. 14:01furniture in front and then maybe the
  342. 14:03three bathrooms we add in a tile
  343. 14:06texture. We can go and we can edit that
  344. 14:09texture as well. So you know say those
  345. 14:11te those tiles are actually coming up
  346. 14:13too big.
  347. 14:15make those a bit smaller. [music] And as
  348. 14:17long as I tab them through, everything
  349. 14:19matches.
  350. 14:21Yeah, I can even say, oh, actually the
  351. 14:22tone of that um that timber is a bit
  352. 14:25much. So, let's So, let's bring the
  353. 14:28exposure down [music] and the
  354. 14:29saturation, make it a bit more muted. I
  355. 14:32can even go in and change the size of my
  356. 14:36tags. So, you see there, I can just
  357. 14:38select those, pick a style, and make
  358. 14:41those match with the other. The other
  359. 14:43thing I can do is add dimensions. So
  360. 14:46again to our layers, we'll just add an
  361. 14:50annotation
  362. 14:51layer. And then I can go to dimensions
  363. 14:54[music] and I can pull these off my
  364. 14:57walls. And exactly the same as with all
  365. 15:00the other styles. I can change the size
  366. 15:02of these. I could say, you know,
  367. 15:05actually they want to be a bright color.
  368. 15:07[music]
  369. 15:07And I can change the size
  370. 15:11of the ends just like that. And I can
  371. 15:14even save that as a style. So I'll call
  372. 15:17that dimension A. And then any of these
  373. 15:21others, I'll just make sure that I pick
  374. 15:22a style. There we go. So do exactly the
  375. 15:27same on this side.
  376. 15:30And again, I just select these,
  377. 15:33pick a style, and then match those. And
  378. 15:36then lastly, I could do something like
  379. 15:38add a shadow. Now, [music] this is very,
  380. 15:40very simple. So, I just create a
  381. 15:43polyline. I can just trace the outline
  382. 15:46of my floor plan just here.
  383. 15:51Complete that. I'll remove the stroke.
  384. 15:53I'll set that to black and set it to
  385. 15:55something like 15%.
  386. 15:5810%.
  387. 15:59That just helps give it a little bit of
  388. 16:01a lift. [music] And lastly, we could do
  389. 16:03something similar, you know, with a
  390. 16:05patio area over here. So again, I'm just
  391. 16:08tracing my polyline. I set that with a
  392. 16:12texture. I'll say maybe there's some
  393. 16:15stone paving here. Maybe it's a bit
  394. 16:17lighter texture. Correct layer. And
  395. 16:20there we go. So with that all set up and
  396. 16:22looking good, let's put it on a sheet.
  397. 16:24So you can see here that I have my model
  398. 16:26canvas. Um, but I also have a paper
  399. 16:28canvas, and that's where I create my
  400. 16:30sheets. So I'll start by creating a
  401. 16:32page. So I'll set that as an A3 over
  402. 16:36here on the right hand side. I can set
  403. 16:37that as portrait or landscape. I'll go
  404. 16:40to my block library. And [music] there
  405. 16:43are pre-built um title sheets which work
  406. 16:47really really well. So if I scroll down
  407. 16:50to title blocks and annotations, you can
  408. 16:52see one of them here. So I can just drag
  409. 16:54and drop that onto my sheet. I can fully
  410. 16:57customize those or make my own [music]
  411. 16:59if I wanted to. And I'll jump back to
  412. 17:02layers and set up a new view. So, this
  413. 17:04is basically where I'm looking back at
  414. 17:07the model canvas, which is here. I can
  415. 17:10scale my uh view. I can set the scale
  416. 17:15here. Let's say it's 1 to 50. [music]
  417. 17:17And then I can crop here and here, which
  418. 17:21you can see here. [music]
  419. 17:22Brilliant. And then what do I do with
  420. 17:24that? So, I can export a PDF. So to
  421. 17:27export a PDF, we just go to menu, export
  422. 17:30PDF, and I can do that. Here I can
  423. 17:33confirm the title, the format, so PDF or
  424. 17:36PNG if I wanted to, the image quality,
  425. 17:38and then the stroke scale. So depending
  426. 17:40on how you're viewing it, how those
  427. 17:42strokes are showing up. That's the kind
  428. 17:44of oldfashioned way. Um, but the best
  429. 17:46way I found is to share this. So I can
  430. 17:48share this over here. So I could share
  431. 17:51this with my boss for them to review it.
  432. 17:53I could share this with a teammate or a
  433. 17:55collaborator. [music] Um, but the really
  434. 17:57great thing is to be able to share as a
  435. 17:59presentation. So for a client, for
  436. 18:00example, so we'll just swipe this little
  437. 18:03toggle here and that gives me an
  438. 18:05address. So a web URL and I can give
  439. 18:08that to my client and they will be able
  440. 18:09to view this PDF. See that here if we
  441. 18:12open it. So there we go. So that's the
  442. 18:15perfectly looking PDF of that floor
  443. 18:17plan. [music] The really really powerful
  444. 18:19thing is that if I went in and I said,
  445. 18:22"Oh, actually,
  446. 18:24you know, [music] maybe my annotations
  447. 18:26look a bit strong and they want to be
  448. 18:29this similar greeny color. Make that a
  449. 18:32bit more muted." When I go back into my
  450. 18:34paper canvas, I can go to share again
  451. 18:36and you'll see this little update
  452. 18:37button. So that's if anything has been
  453. 18:39updated since that link was published.
  454. 18:41So I'll press update and that will
  455. 18:43update that. It doesn't change the link,
  456. 18:45which is perfect because the client is
  457. 18:46only having to look at one place.
  458. 18:48[music]
  459. 18:49But when I go back into it, just take a
  460. 18:51second to load and you see that there.
  461. 18:53So, it's been updated. [music] Perfect.
  462. 18:55And that's it. From a space scan in IMAP
  463. 18:58to a fully designed and styled drawing
