- 0:12Muhammad.
- 0:30Respected
- 0:47brothers and sisters,
- 0:53I sincerely welcome you all to our second part in our series
- 0:57where we look into the gems and pearls of wisdom. from the lives of the imams of
- 1:05imam is an outstanding figure in not only Islamic history but also world
- 1:12history in general. Imta is known as the one chosen by the almighty
- 1:21Allah selected him. Now of course this is his title. He is the first to make the holy prophet
- 1:28and messenger a grandfather. He is the first to make imm parents. He occupies a very valuable role
- 1:38in the lives of the messenger of God and God's emissaries and chosen people. That being said,
- 1:45he is also widely misunderstood. I remember probably two years ago we did a series here
- 1:50in this wonderful center known as Ali Alass the Hassan nights whereby we looked at 10 individual
- 2:00nights. These would correspond with the 10th of the seventh of Safar. The 10th night being the
- 2:08day of the shahad of Im Hass mimicking the theme that we would do with because the life and legacy
- 2:15of Imusha the effort was to showcase that there is so much to learn. We've done him an injustice.
- 2:23We have not taken advantage of the many valuable lessons that can't be extrapolated from the life
- 2:28of this amazing figure. So can one perform 10 lectures by the time we got to the 10th I
- 2:34remember. Subhan Allah. There was still like 20 more in the tank that I personally wanted
- 2:40to get out. 20 more individual nights, 20 more independent topics that span an hour long. And
- 2:47that's from the relative amount of humble research that I've done and I know for a fact much more is
- 2:53possible. There is much more potential. You're talking an imam that lived born in the 15th of
- 2:59the holy month of Ramadan, the third year after Hijra, died the 50th year of Hijra, on the 7th of
- 3:06Safar. This is a person who lived a life filled with so many moments, interactions. This is your
- 3:12number two im. This is the bridge between immin to the rest of the ims of very intrical very
- 3:21necessary very part and parcel of the life of every Muslim lover of B today. Unfortunately,
- 3:28three4s of the Muslim world to them Imam Hassan has not grown past seven years old. He's still
- 3:35this little kid that mashallah cute. He played with the prophet. He was young. He was small.
- 3:41And that's it. Because the rest of the life of Imtabis, many of his accomplishes accomplishments
- 3:49and many of his feats are in conflict with the opposition that we do not revere. The
- 3:57likes such as Muawi Abi Sufyan, the likes such as the estranged wife of the holy prophet in the
- 4:03battle of J. There is a conflict there. Many moments in Islamic history showcase that once
- 4:09Imam al Mucham even from the young age of around 12 years old runs into conflict with the figures
- 4:18that are members of the establishment that usurp the rights of the B. Therefore to not highlight
- 4:25these moments in Islamic history emphasize he was a young boy and that's as if he never grew
- 4:30up past seven years old. Whereas imab many valuable lessons can be learned from his
- 4:35sacrifice with the mentioning of the truce peace agreement treaty the me moments where he actually
- 4:42engages in conflict contrary to the opinion that many might level at him that he was apolitical or
- 4:49non-confrontational rather the life of the imam while very challenging to showcase in an hourong
- 4:56discussion however let us put some effort to gain some knowledge to learn about the imam
- 5:02So that we can understand and appreciate a little bit more even if we're scratching the surface from
- 5:15Hassan was known as understanding that already sets the tone for what we're going to do. Kharim
- 5:25means the one who is generous without you even needing to ask. You hear the terms
- 5:32jawad alim jawad can't be referred to someone who when you need him he's always there for you
- 5:42can refer to the one who whether you go to him or not he is a fountain constantly giving you im is
- 5:50known as this title highlights for us the vision that he occupies and this vision is one where it
- 5:58peaked at such a degree Three, he was willing to relinquish political leadership for the sake of
- 6:04the betterment of the ummah. That is a depth of generosity that many will never do. Imam Mustam,
- 6:13we notice just a display of some of his knowledge, some of his generosity. It was reported that he
- 6:19would be breaking bread and in front of him was a dog. And this is, you know, you're talking about
- 6:24the imum, right? So you're dealing with a dog in front of him. He begins to break from the
- 6:29bread and hand him from that which he is also eating. Now it's one thing to give the thing
- 6:34or the animal food for it. It's another thing to share what you're eating for this creature. And
- 6:41a man comes and says to him, "This is something beneath you. It's not befitting that you share
- 6:46break bread with another animal especially like a dog like this." To which he replies
- 6:50wah the most philanthropic humanitarian loving reply you'll ever see. Subhan Allah. He said,
- 7:03"I feel ashamed to eat and a soul is staring at me." He said a principle that it doesn't matter
- 7:09what is being, what is suffering, what is hungry. So long as it's a soul that's watching you,
- 7:19feed it. I am ashamed to eat while it's watching. So he breaks bread and gives it to him. Immush
- 7:25Alisam one day a man constantly frequented his home would ask for help financially for food and
- 7:33then the man felt a bit guilty that you know every time I go to him he always gives me let me this
- 7:39time give him something in return a poor person does not own much so that they can give gifts
- 7:46so he thought let me give him something abstract let me give him poetry this will be a gift that is
- 7:53accepted did that is nice like I wrote you poetry and of course back then you didn't have the use
- 7:58of AI so that you can just generate it you have to actually use your brain something many people
- 8:03stopped using ever since AI came into the scene but work on writing some poetry this will help
- 8:09you become creative it'll help you word in things and expression and so he's like let me give him
- 8:14some poetry it shows effort let me go to him and before I even ask him for my desire that I'll give
- 8:22him poetry then I'll say give me something in return now. So he goes to the house he knocks
- 8:27on the door. The first thing he observes is that he never sees the Imam's face. He always sees his
- 8:32hand and it's as if to him imah is just a hand. Why? It would be an effort from all members of the
- 8:40imams. This is a common motif which has a lesson in it as well that when they give they don't want
- 8:46you to know they're the ones who gave. A lot of times people like to be made known that they are
- 8:53those who donate. And by the way, there's nothing wrong with being known for something charitable.
- 8:58It's actually a good thing. It's a lovely quality that if you're going to be known for something,
- 9:02be known for something good. But don't make the good that you did for what? For the purpose of
- 9:08just being known for it. Did I say the story last time that there was a person who was running for
- 9:14local office here? Did I say that story? It was over there. Well, you could where was it,
- 9:19man? For Okay, that was in here. This girl, she ran for city council. And I remember we're part of
- 9:28the Imam Ali Association, which is a philanthropic group. We just give to like, you know,
- 9:32food baskets and like winter clothing to those who are homeless, right? And then suddenly she joins
- 9:37us and I've never seen her and I'm very happy someone new. But the problem is, yeah, that's
- 9:42okay. She has a team recording her like this big old like have you seen the TV camera crew with the
- 9:48big cameras on the shoulders? Those big big ones right look like bazookas those ones. And she's
- 9:53like watch. And she gives the what's it called? The jacket. She puts it into the right box. She
- 9:58sorts the cans and whatever. See like mashallah it's no problem that she ran for office and
- 10:05she lost. Obviously, when she lost, she stopped showing up to the the food drives and she never
- 10:12showed up again. The problem with that that there was no if you're going to make your intention,
- 10:24reputation building, I'm only interested. And she never showed up afterwards. The stressed that
- 10:32look, if you want jazz, it'll come naturally. Don't chase it. People will know that's you.
- 10:37At the end of the day, we're reading a hadith now where the Imam would only show his hand. He would
- 10:42stand beside the wall behind the door and his hand would but we now know it's Immad Hassan.
- 10:47Obviously, history will record that you will be made aware. God will make it public to others. One
- 10:53of the best ways I read to become more appreciated around your society is to compliment others in the
- 11:01presence of other people. say, "Do you know so and so is a very smart person? They have good taste in
- 11:07whatever. They have goodlak." That person is going to spread that rumor. Do you know that individual
- 11:13said this about you and it becomes something where you didn't even need to confront? You didn't even
- 11:18need to put effort. You just throw the initial step and the everything else works into place.
- 11:26You will then become more appreciated that you're actually going out there doing inverse inverse
- 11:32backbiting where you're spreading good words about others behind their back. That news reaches them
- 11:38instead of going to the individual and saying look you know I I told so and so that mashallah you're
- 11:42a good person to me that doesn't mean anything. I remember a friend told me I went to a community
- 11:46to speak that he said you know there were a few people they were talking about you and I said hey
- 11:51stop that's my boy that's my man that's my friend that's my brother and you know I defended you like
- 11:58the moment you said I defended you I'm like what was the issue anyways they just said they didn't
- 12:02like that you were talking to them like is that just racist or something I don't understand yeah
- 12:07and I said yeah so what you know who cares you just made it worse not I not only do I not like
- 12:12appreciate them anymore as much. I don't like the fact that you want to be praised now. Yeah,
- 12:17I defended you. Huh? Didn't I stand up for you? It's like, wa, there are ways to do these things
- 12:22without seeking the praise. People will inform you eventually without being too direct that,
- 12:27hey, you have people that stand up for you. This doesn't mean anything at the end of the day. At
- 12:31the end of the day, you go to your own grave and the day of judgment, Allah judges. But don't seek
- 12:36validation. Put that effort. The man knocks on the door and he just sees a hand. That's it. just
- 12:42a hand and he says, "Wait, wait, before you give me that which is in the container or in the bag,"
- 12:49he would routinely come. And so the imam knows what he wants. He says, "Let me just give you
- 12:54some poetry." Imm says, "Take my then I'll accept your poetry." He's like, "That's not how it works.
- 13:00I want to thank you for all the you've done for me before, then I'll take it." He's like, "Nope,
- 13:04take the first so that it's not something you can think is a result of the poetry that you gifted
- 13:10me and I had to pay you. Take the first." He's very careful, very particular about the manner
- 13:16and step. That's their intention. So the man said, "Listen, can I give you the poetry or not?" Immass
- 13:22said, "Not even now. I don't even want it. I know you worked hard, but the thing is I don't
- 13:26even want it because you want to recite poetry to me to save face so you don't feel guilty. No,
- 13:32I'm going to make you feel guilty. And the imam recited poetry to him. It's as if he says, "I'll
- 13:37give you poetry." And he recites something so mesmerizing. It teaches you manners, theology, and
- 13:46the status of the imams of B and their vision when it comes to dealing with other people. He says,
- 13:55"We are a people." We meaning the attaining anything from us is easy.
- 14:05that from us hope and aspirations are with us.
- 14:14Our nature is always giving before even the question to ask. We always will give
- 14:24fearing for the dignity of the one who asks. They say I will not let you ask me in order for me to
- 14:32give charity to you. Now you see why he's called I will give you before you ask so that you won't
- 14:39even leave thinking I had to beg a little. I was struggling. One of the most complicated
- 14:44moments in a believer's life is when they have to kind of beg. And there's no shame in being
- 14:49someone financially I guess humble challenged in these circumstances. The economy is not good.
- 14:55Sometimes it's you have to lean on others but that's just a means. Some people make
- 14:59it the ends. Whenever I struggle I could just go to this guy. You have to get out
- 15:03of that circumstance. There's a hadith by by the holy messenger of God to which he says
- 15:12come and say the strong believer is better more efficient than the weaker believer is
- 15:18to mean physically and financially. How could you give back to society if you actually don't
- 15:25have enough to give back? It hurts your heart. It breaks your heart to see for example the crisis
- 15:31happening. There are Shia who are suffering in Lebnan. There are Shia who are suffering
- 15:35in Iran and there are just other everyday average human beings going through pain.
- 15:41There are some they need to be physically strong to confront that oppression. But then
- 15:46the majority need to be financially strong to support the confrontation of that oppression.
- 15:51So how can I do that if I don't have some sort of independence financially? So the im makes it very
- 15:58clear that I give before you even ask so you don't leave thinking I had to beg. It's just a gift.
- 16:11And if the
- 16:15virtue of our generous nature
- 16:23that it would humble and dry up out of shame in comparison and how it pales to the depth of our
- 16:33generosity. The man was astonished. He says, "Surely God knows where he places his message
- 16:39and the Imam gifted him and he didn't even need to give him anything back in return." That's
- 16:43the im of when you hear terms such as the most generous, it doesn't mean he is more outstanding
- 16:50than the other members of. But to each im their individual role. All the imams of B in our and
- 16:58in our theology are all on the same pedigree as far as their relationship with Allahawaj
- 17:05with exception to the holy prophet of Islam. The prophet is naturally the greatest creation
- 17:11of God almighty. The second to that in our is imb from that is the other ims of this is our
- 17:20the imams don't need to develop either from the cradle to their grave even before the cradle they
- 17:26were ordained by the almighty hence he's called god chose him assigned him the messenger of god
- 17:33says when I went to heaven I saw the throne of god I saw written alongside it the 12 imams
- 17:40from my lineage he sees the These are names pre-ordained before even the creation of the
- 17:45duny to us. They are all individually assigned their role. That doesn't mean because one had
- 17:52x role and the other one had a more let's say apparently more outstanding role that that means
- 17:58the importance or the significance of that imam is more than the other. Each one dealt with their own
- 18:03circumstances. And if IM Hassam was in the same situation and position and seat as Imm Hussein,
- 18:11he would have done the same exact thing. And if IM Hussein was in the same position as IM Hass,
- 18:15he would have done the same exact thing. The prophet of Islam said
- 18:22there are all one light source. One light, one light, one radiance. Yes,
- 18:29there is some cases emphasis based on our real world relative circumstances. We can't but you
- 18:36know sympathize and relate to Imam Hussein because we see versions of today. We see versions of Yazid
- 18:44today versions. I can't help but remember when I see kids being slaughtered. Don't let people
- 18:51come and tell you this talk of there is nothing like you can't compare. What was the point of if
- 18:58I can't compare? I compare evil. Yes, there is none exact to Imam Husseinam. However, what was
- 19:06the point of reviving the message of ashu if not when I see something that reminds me of atrocity,
- 19:12injustice, oppression that I have to be like against atrocity, injustice, oppression. These are
- 19:19the lessons different roles but one goal and that is the satisfaction of allahel. Imtab the prophet
- 19:27of Islam when they were young Hass and Hussein it is very much known that when the prophet would
- 19:33enter in the state of sujud prostration the young Imam Hassan would run up climb on the back of the
- 19:40holy prophet latch on like this you have like a 5-year-old grabbing the prophet of God and waiting
- 19:50yes now he's going to stand up again from the sjud and I'm going to be taken high and that is
- 19:56going to be fun. At the end of this, the prophet of Islam was approached by some of his companions
- 20:02and they said to him, "How lucky are Hassan and Hussein to have the kind of vehicle that they
- 20:13have?" Referring to the prophet as a vehicle. How lucky are they that they have you as the vehicle
- 20:20of transportation on top of you? To which the prophet said, "No, how lucky am I that I have them
- 20:27riding on my back emphasizing the love and nature between both of them." You had a moment where the
- 20:36prophet of Islam begins to teach society not from a loveydovey grandfathery to his grandchildren
- 20:42affection remarks but to teach them status the status of these individuals. He begins to say
- 20:53that he is an imam whether he is standing or sitting. Some might
- 20:58interpret this as look he just loves his grandkids. There is
- 21:00theology to what he says. The prophet does not speak out of whim and he air.
- 21:09So what does he mean here? He says whether he is active in his role of im or not he is
- 21:15still a proof of god upon you. active in the role highlights what that there can be a time in in in
- 21:24history where you have one h of Allah one main active IM and you can have another at the same
- 21:33exact time like what like Harun and Musa MS is the active IM Harun is following orders of the
- 21:40main IM but just because he is second to his IM i.e. MS doesn't mean that what he tells you is
- 21:49not a burden upon you. It's not proof upon you. So when the prophet says this, he is to indicate
- 21:54that there will come a time where you will have multiple imams in one go. We only have one imam
- 22:00and he is in and we are so blessed to have that. Imagine you have three imams alive and impre you
- 22:07can access them publicly. How lucky would you be then? And the society had those imams. In fact,
- 22:13society had five of these imams rather no you had alive. You had imi alive. You had say of course
- 22:26in the sense that whatever she says you got to obey and follow. You had imm hussein meaning
- 22:33okay so do I only follow one and ignore the rest? He's like whether they are active or they're not
- 22:38you have to obey them because there will come a time it's just Imam Hassan and Hussein. Yes,
- 22:42I im Hussein is obedient to his brother, but IM Hussein says this that hadith is accepted.
- 22:47You have to follow and it's a burden upon you. It's just there's an imam for an imam as well.
- 22:52He begins to teach theology. He begins to say my two apples of my eye or the more appropriate
- 23:01term basil of the holy prophet. These are very fragrant expressions and symbolism highlighting
- 23:09p purity beauty loving his grandchildren so much establishing the barebone minimum that the man
- 23:17by the name of a which means the bald-headed one which just shows you the naming Arabian
- 23:22mothers had I don't know why that was popular the bald-headed guy he came and asked I see you
- 23:29constantly embracing and hugging and kissing alass Hussein what gives I have 10 sons and I
- 23:34never kissed any one of them to which Allah says you will be asked about this that it is of your
- 23:40duty to be someone caring and tender to your grandchildren. Don't be this whole tough love
- 23:46and in your mind that reflects you have to be as aggressive as you could. At the end of the
- 23:50day these are children and so I want to make that very clear. It is said that would constantly uh
- 23:56kiss Imm Hussein as that young baby on his holy neck and he would embrace Imam Hassan on his
- 24:02blessed lips and say Zah would say why is that? Do you have some favoritism with respect to how
- 24:07you embrace one or the other? To which he said I embrace them in the areas that will be the sources
- 24:14and the areas for where they will return back to Allah. One in one through the poison. And he
- 24:20already begins to highlight for us that the Imam will go through and endure a great deal of pain.
- 24:25But that doesn't mean that in his entire life that he goes from a baby to the moment he is a shahid.
- 24:31Everything in between has to be discussed. The pages need to be opened and it's sad that they
- 24:36weren't. So let's inshall try to put some effort in that regard. As you know, Im alassam grew up
- 24:44in the house of his father and then he moved to Kufa with his father. In Kufa, Imam Hassan gets
- 24:50married. The marriage of Imam Hassan here is an interesting one because it was leveraged by the
- 24:55enemies Benuaya specifically and even the modern Benuaya to claim that Imam Mucha had nothing
- 25:02better to do than just to get married and divorced which couldn't be further from the truth. First of
- 25:08all, even if a person ends up divorcing, divorce is not a haram thing, nor is it inappropriate.
- 25:14It is despised because of what it can do to some families especially if there are kids involved but
- 25:19it doesn't decrease of a person's status in the eyes of allahel. So yes there were moments where
- 25:25the imam it's not that he makes mistakes in this context it's that he shows you that even I am if
- 25:32I see that there isn't a prioritization of god in a relationship as I might have noticed in maybe a
- 25:38spouse or two then that's not a relationship that needs to be tolerated. You shouldn't compromise
- 25:43on your dean. That's a lesson now. Even if it means that you have to end up divorcing. Why?
- 25:48Because Allah is a red line. Preferences are not standards. Standards are conditions. You
- 25:55compromise on preferences. You don't compromise on conditions. Their relationship with Allah has
- 26:01to be something that is seen as a standard. Where they're from, age, factors in a reasonable sense,
- 26:08such as these are preferences. And the Imam makes it very clear. Look, I don't mind if at
- 26:12the end of the day there's no chemistry. Even these things can be worked on. But if allahel
- 26:17is being violated and that's something I will be the first to say, look, Allah is my standard. If
- 26:22you're not going to honor that and then then be my guest and you can have out and that could happen,
- 26:27but that's not a negative. I never see why is that a negative thing came and said this
- 26:35is some bizarre number 500 times. 500. So, if you're going to exaggerate a lie, okay, fine.
- 26:43At least be a bit more consistent with the lies. What do you mean 500 times? Because if you do the
- 26:48math on 500 marriages and divorces and things of that nature, none of it even adds up. None of it
- 26:55makes sense. And even if you do the math on that, surprisingly, he only has literally a handful of
- 27:02children. If a marriage is one that is fulfilled, then clearly you would see a big progeny.
- 27:09If that's a person's intention as if to say that all he cares about is relations. No, because you
- 27:15could see if someone cares about relations. There are symptoms to that. But not with imm.
- 27:28But it's petty arguments. One day a man came and said from the enemies of B that al Hassan had a
- 27:34stutter. A stutter. Yeah, he would stutter. These are shameful accusations. Why? Because
- 27:40it is to say that there are things you can't change in life that make you a bad person. So
- 27:45what? So what? Now the reality is he didn't have a stutter. No work in history records for us he
- 27:52would struggle in his speech. In fact, we have the opposite. We have where I imam says tonight
- 27:58instead of me giving the sermon in the masjid of kufa as Imam would do nightly I leave that for my
- 28:04son IM Hass when he got up to speak he spoke very eloquently and if anyone knows eloquence it's the
- 28:09man known as the peak the path of eloquence at the end of im comes down in his 20s says
- 28:22that how I love that my son accomplished what I would have done. How wonderful a lineage is.
- 28:28One is just like the other. This all low lower jabs to attack the base are silly. But it shows
- 28:36you how oppressed Imm Hassan is. So oppressed that they called him and leveled at him many
- 28:41accusations and allegations. Amongst them are that he was someone who was apolitical and didn't like
- 28:46confrontation. Number one, is it cool to like confrontation? I don't understand what that
- 28:50why that. Do you want to like also bully people? Is that fun for you? Does that make you a better
- 28:55person? Confrontation against Bulum is good. But they say no. That's how he was. He could have
- 29:00maybe fought and he decided to hang back a bit. If you read in the battle of J, it was Imm Hassan
- 29:07Alisam who confronted the moral symbol, the main head, the leader of the adversaries. And he came.
- 29:17There was a situation. If you study the battle of J, you had the aranged wife of the prophet.
- 29:22She would be on top of a camel and she would then confront the Imam Alisam. When she confronted him,
- 29:28she would also be with the army and she would be there supporting them from her big high horse
- 29:35or high camel rather. Surrounding the camel were multiple rows of armored men. The tradition says
- 29:44these men, the only thing you can see from them is just their eyes. Everything else is metal. They
- 29:49would be protected. They're like a wall shielding her. So they would send people to go and try to
- 29:55penetrate through that force to get to her. Now the goal isn't to kill her. The goal is to bring
- 30:01down what appears to be the moral boost for the opposition that if they see their leader fall,
- 30:08at least that's enough to crush their morality. And so they would send forces after forces. None
- 30:13could get past that wall of men that are standing. Imam sends Muhammadb Muhammad the hadith tells us
- 30:22this is his son from a another wife after the shahada of Zahar Muhammad was known to be very
- 30:30strong and he was so strong so brave so powerful in his might mashallah where there was a story
- 30:37that says that there was a man causing havoc in Medina one of those very quick youthful fast,
- 30:46energetic people that would, you could imagine, he would pull hijabs off women and run away and no
- 30:51one could catch him. He would always slip and run around. Just a a lunatic, pretty much a maniac. He
- 30:57caught him. He caught him. Muhammad and then he decided to restrain him. How he restrained him,
- 31:03the tradition says he grabbed a metal pole and he tied it and bent it around him. They said that we
- 31:10need to let him go now. It's been hours. He held him there. They said we tried to undo it. unbend
- 31:15it but it didn't work. It was too hard. It was metal until Muhammad came back and undid it.
- 31:19Demonstrating his might. Mashallah. So this by if you're the son of if you can live the door
- 31:25of if your dad can lift I'm sure you can bend like metal and iron and easily he tried to get
- 31:32through that wall basically that fortress. He went in and he couldn't make it until Im says
- 31:41send my son Al Hassan. Imam Hassan participated in that battle and he goes and he manages to get
- 31:48through not just the first level of men but the second and the third and he was able to
- 31:53actually kill that camel essentially which was necessary to bring down their leader
- 31:58and their figurehead. She fell down from it which ultimately destroyed the morale of the
- 32:03opposition allowing for the conflict to be solved. When he did this, Imam Ali, the hadith says,
- 32:10looks at his son Muhammad who had just failed in doing this, in accomplishing this. Im Ali says the
- 32:17following. I know what you're thinking. You're embarrassed that when I sent you, you couldn't
- 32:22do it. But your but your brother when he went, he did it. Let me reassure you. I sent you. And the
- 32:30reason you couldn't do it, I love this line. I love it very much. Is because you are the son of
- 32:35Ali. Why? Why he was able to do it is because he is the son of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam
- 32:46and there's a difference oh my beloved son Muhammad from the sons of Ali to
- 32:51the sons of Muhammad they're much outstanding this was a moment that
- 32:56demonstrates to you that when the going gets tough I imam there's
- 33:01no holding him back in fact in the battle of later on Im Ali would say
- 33:09Grab them. They're going way too far ahead. Imm Hass Hussein. They would
- 33:14really charge and it would be as if you can't even see them. Im bring them back.
- 33:19I at least want to see them. It's not that I fear for them, but I just hate to see that
- 33:24they keep going and they're just alone. Demonstrating once again their bravery,
- 33:28their courage. This all is to just throw out the misconception to disprove all of this stuff.
- 33:34That's one side, his bravery. That other side we saw his generosity. There's a unique side
- 33:41to imba that is hardly ever highlighted. When you go home and you said why do you love your
- 33:46second im because loved him he grew up after seven man he lived. There's more
- 33:51to that. What is it? and his intellectual side called the Imm the beacons of intellectuality
- 34:01was approached by a group of Romans. Romans would ask bizarre questions. They're not
- 34:07going to ask you from Quran. They're going to ask you thoughtprovoking questions. They came
- 34:13and they were philosophers and they said, "We have a series of questions for you, oh hashab,
- 34:20do I have your undivided attention?" a series of questions. One of them is if
- 34:25you could demonstrate to us the 10 things God made in this world which are from weak
- 34:33to the strongest there ever is. From strong to stronger though, but starting with the weakest,
- 34:39could you demonstrate for us the actual distance between the heavens and this earth? Could you
- 34:45demonstrate to us the distance between the h truth and falsehood? Could you demonstrate for
- 34:52us the uniqueness of how to identify observe the following a neutral gender not male or female?
- 35:02What on earth is that and how you identify it? Could you give us these demonstrations and could
- 35:07you show us the creations of the almighty that are in union between the scriptures which were
- 35:13born without mother or father? Muawi said I have no idea. The who who who does know that we want
- 35:20to entertain who knows he says if you're in Medina there is a scholar there but hold on
- 35:25don't you claim to be says yeah he's like then okay the guy in Medina you think he can satisfy
- 35:33yeah go ahead you get to Medina and all they were given was one name Hassan who is Hassan
- 35:40where is he you know what's so funny the funny thing is the name his name is what does it even
- 35:48Good. Nice. Hassan, right? Good. The hadith tells us he was the first to be named that.
- 35:55What does that tell you about the naming of a society? No one could have thought about the
- 36:01name goodness. Hassan, it's he was the first to be given that maybe Hussein possibly. Sure. Because
- 36:08Hussein is deep in its etmological meaning. Its root is just Hussein. But it's root is what
- 36:21it's just goodness. He was the first to be named that. So when they come and they say hey I'm
- 36:25asking for at that time in the seventh century Arabian Peninsula is only one Hassan Imam. So
- 36:32it's easy today if you go to Medina Hassan like which which billion Hassan do you want to know?
- 36:38They get to Medina and they meet him because there's only one one and only. And they say,
- 36:44"Listen, we approached Muawi and we asked questions. He couldn't answer. He referred
- 36:47us to you. Do you think you're up for it?" He's like, "Let's go." He said, "Okay, first address
- 36:51to us the 10 things. One is stronger than the other." He's like, "In order." In order. He said,
- 36:58"Allah created stone and rock is hard. However, iron breaks rock. However, fire will melt iron.
- 37:09Water extinguishes fire. The cloud carries that water and creates it. The wind moves the cloud.
- 37:18The angel who controls the cosmos controls the wind. The angel of death overpowers the angel
- 37:25who controls the wind. Death overpowers the angel that controls the angel that controls the wind,
- 37:34the angel of death. And Allah overpowers death, for he is the living that does not die. They said,
- 37:40"Okay, all of that is logical. How about the distance between the heavens and the earth?"
- 37:45One of the most profound responses ever given. It should wake you up from your sleep. He said,
- 37:59"The call of an oppressed person in dua, heavens and the earth become this when a person screams,
- 38:06ya Allah." Why? Because every Malik of the Malik heard you. Every inhabitants of the jin,
- 38:14it all came together like this. Allah heard you. The cry of an oppressed person in dua is
- 38:21the distance between the earth and the samawat. Profound response. Subhan Allah. What is the
- 38:27the distance between truth and falsehood? And you know the answer. He says it's so lovely.
- 38:32He's like four fingers. He's like, how? Four fingers is the distance between the ear and the
- 38:37eye. What you hear with the ear, verify with your eye. Don't let people come and tell you.
- 38:46Don't let people lie like this. Let you at least say if I didn't see it, let me
- 38:50not judge. Let me not assume. That could be the distance between truth and false. So they said,
- 38:56okay, how about that neutral gender thing? The thing is, if you ask us today, we don't even know
- 39:00what that is. What's a neutral gender? But there are certain cases where sometimes there could be
- 39:05anomalies and mutations in the embryotic process and that can happen. I think the scientific term
- 39:11that they might refer to is hermaphrodites possibly very like rare case. Islam is not
- 39:19a perfect religion unless it addresses everything and it did and so it even addressed these areas.
- 39:25They said the way to identify that would be to hold on and wait for the development of the
- 39:32memorary glands. If there is no development of the memorary glands physically then there needs
- 39:36to be an observance of emission. If there is no emission then that is a neutral gender. What is
- 39:41there? He gives exactly the details on what to do as well. Every single step im gave answer
- 39:48after answer after answer. These are superficial thoughtprovoking questions. Then you had Quranic
- 39:54questions that would come. The hadith says a man came to and he's like I had a question in
- 40:04that
- 40:13he said when Allah is swearing on these things this man entering he wants to ask a question.
- 40:20What is what is that? And the witnesser and that which is being witnessed. What is God referring
- 40:28to? So the guy who narrates the hadith says I entered the mosque of the prophet. In the
- 40:35time of Imam Mushaba, the mosque of the prophet was basically a and they had what is called a a
- 40:42circle of classes that could be offered. The Imam was in that session. he would teach. The
- 40:50man enters he said, "I sat down with one of the scholars and I asked him at the end of his class,
- 40:55what is the shahid? What is the mash?" He said, "As for the shahid, it's the day of jum,
- 40:59as for the mash, it's the day of." He's like, "That doesn't make any sense to me."
- 41:03I sat next to the second class. What's the shah, mister? He's like, "As for the it's the day of,
- 41:09As for the mash is the day of Eid." He's like, "That what is a day? How is that a
- 41:13witness? I don't get it." He's like, "I sat next to the third class." And he says in the
- 41:20his face looks like the gold an idiom expressing the radiance of this individual and you all know
- 41:27who this is. I said to him, "Can you answer in the ayah, God is swearing by these things that
- 41:43what's that?" He says, "As for the it is none other than
- 41:52Allah."
- 41:56He says, "How?" He's like, "The Quran look where he says the ayah,
- 42:10oh messenger, we have dispatched you as a witnesser. You are seeing what about the which
- 42:19is being witnessed." He said, "It's the day of judgment." It's like how the Quran itself again.
- 42:28And it is a day that is going to be witnessed the prophet and the day of judgment. He said, and this
- 42:36is appropriate for what Allah is saying in the ayah. He's talking about a group of people who
- 42:40were burnt alive basically subject to genocide. And you all have seen genocide today unfortunately
- 42:47and many of us were affected directly. And so he said the prophet will witness on the day of
- 42:52judgment how these people will go through their oppression and will go through their punishment
- 42:58and discipline and on the day of judgment it will be seen how they will go through the punishment
- 43:05and the capital punishment that they deserve. it matches with with what's happening. He says,
- 43:10"Then I asked, who are these three individuals?" They asked for the first scholar, it was Ibn
- 43:14Omar. Asked for the second scholar, it was Ib Abbas. As for the third scholar, it is also
- 43:31profound scholar and of course well recognized and this is where I think it would be fine to now wrap
- 43:38up for his peace truce and peace agreement and his treaty with Muawia. We just skipped a lot of
- 43:46years while giving some glimpses here and there about his life. Hassan as you know inherited the
- 43:56civil wars that his father Im was dealing with and of course dealt with a lot of civil wars
- 44:06technically still didn't finish. It ended with what is known as the arbitration whereby
- 44:11they tried to do some diplomacy. But Imam Ali was forced into it by coercion. And you all can watch
- 44:19the news today when two sides are fighting. If one of the sides who happens to be the aggressor says,
- 44:27"Let's come and make terms." They have no right to say that. Why? You started
- 44:31the issue. We were just minding our own business. You killed our children. You bombed our schools.
- 44:37Now you're saying now you must make a peace treaty. Talk look into the mirror. Speak for
- 44:42yourself. We were minding our own business and you come out of nowhere. You hit us and say now
- 44:47you must sign a peace treaty. What gives? But if you're an upright people, you know that Islam
- 44:53prioritizes the primacy of peace. Any opportunity for me, you must take it. Just take it. Mu is the
- 45:00aggressor. Saw that they came to terms. the two sides that were fighting to say, "Let's at least
- 45:08try to do some diplomacy. Let's use the Quran to determine who's on the truth." Of course,
- 45:12this was a plot. This was a joke to just say face Mu at this rate perpetually is going to
- 45:20get to him and end him. So, let's just bring an excuse to stop the fighting. And they said,
- 45:24"Let the Quran judge." This let the Quran judge made some of the members of the side of say,
- 45:29"You know what? Let's do that." Says, Quran and woe to you. I'm the walking
- 45:36speaking Quran. Don't believe them. And to further emphasize their point, they took the
- 45:42Quran. Imagine this like they took the Quran and they placed it on a spear and they raised it and
- 45:49they raised it high and they said, "Let the Quran judge." This would come and create the
- 46:03They emerged said let's do that. So they hated both Im Ali and Muawi they emerged from Muawi's
- 46:07side and some from Im Ali's sideb was part of this by the way Josh was part of this by the way they
- 46:14emerged from this. Imam Hassan inherits this. He inherits this headache. After Im Ali was a im Hass
- 46:23rises and then he says, "Oh man and woman kind not." He says, "Oh man and woman because im is
- 46:31an im for all of people. All people loved him." He says today we lost a man would fight to his
- 46:38right to his left. However, we will continue what he died doing. proceed with me. He took whatever
- 46:46forces that were willing to fight. Many of them were fatigued. Many of them were tired. But this
- 46:50is your Imam telling you do the following. As they were going, they were about 12,000 soldiers. Imam
- 46:57Al Hassan divided his soldiers by about 3,000 each. So you have, for example, 3,000 ahead,
- 47:06you have 3,000 in the middle, and you had 2,000 behind. And Imm Hassan was at the dead center
- 47:14middle. Ahead of him was his cousin Abbas who was leading that group of number of men. Muawi
- 47:23sent him money to bribe him. Stop. Don't make the same mistake his dad did. It's not worth
- 47:30it. Here's a lot of money. Take this. Not only did Abbas take his soldiers and stop fighting,
- 47:38he took them to Muawi's side. They joined his side. The people behind Imam Hassan from the back
- 47:44the 2,000 he sent them a letter Muawi saying that Al Hassan and I have decided to give up fighting
- 47:51and he gave me allegiance. He lied. Basically, he lied and he forged a signature Ali and they're
- 47:57okay. He doesn't want to fight anymore. Not believing that their im was someone dedicated
- 48:03to his mission and imb doesn't hesitate. He says go. He's not going to be changing his mind. And
- 48:09the rest were all paid off. He was left with just a few number of individuals. It came to
- 48:14the point that Imam Hassan saw that he was out that he was abandoned pretty much and there were
- 48:19just a few members that were still with him. As Imam Hassan is motivating them, come and fight,
- 48:23come proceed. They said they are much more in numbers. We're just little. He says, Allah will
- 48:27help us if I am with you. One of them came and took a knife and stabbed the thigh of Imam Hassan.
- 48:33One of those who was part of his army initially. And the imam was injured. They took him down from
- 48:38the horse. They secluded him in a cave and they stood guard. Some of the handful 15 that stayed
- 48:44behind. One of those was he was he was there watching guard until he couldn't do anything else.
- 48:50Some people think as soon as I hass became Im that he immed let's make a peace agreement and I
- 48:56im nothing can confront them. You could just about kill an imam after you make them thirsty for like
- 49:033 days kill their family physically hurt them you could just about kill them like as you saw in but
- 49:08if he has some support that's mashallah enough. He came to a point where Muawia said to him with a
- 49:14letter that let's just stop this. You are clearly outnumbered, let's make terms and I'm willing to
- 49:20accept your terms. When he got that condition, the wisest individual in any moment of making a peace
- 49:29agreement and it's all very relevant today is the one who sets the terms. Not the one who says let's
- 49:36make an agreement and I set the terms. used to you who gets the ability to say we'll stop conflict
- 49:43based on the terms of the following and im said oh in that case that's what I want otherwise
- 49:50why do I want to fight you so that I can bring these terms if I can get that without fighting
- 49:55you then I'll do it the first term was that you will stop changing the sunnah salat was done on
- 50:02Fridays would do it on Thursdays why you just like chilling I just feel like that stop doing
- 50:09on im that was a term in of itself on the whenever they would pray they would begin the prayer with
- 50:15a curse on Im Ali stop doing that if I im Hass didn't do this till today by the way people do not
- 50:19know Al did you know that look at his contribution how it had ripples of effects till today stop
- 50:26changing the stop killing of if you die comes to me is political leadership he's still in the eyes
- 50:36of Allah but political ical leadership comes to me. If I am dead and you are alive then goes to
- 50:44my brother Im Hussein. This term allowed the Shia to breathe for the next 9 years because this would
- 50:53be the 41st year of Hijra and Imam Hass was shah on the 50th for the next 9 years there wasn't a
- 51:02single killing of Shia you look at the Shia Muawi killed it was killed before the peace treaty you
- 51:10look at wasn't he killed by Muawa um we look at look at the son of Abu Bakr, Muhammad Abbak. These
- 51:18are all upright Shia. They were all killed before the peace treaty for the next nine years until the
- 51:2350th year after Hijra rather until until the near the six the 60th year after Hijra because Imam
- 51:31Al Hassan assumes on the 50th rather 50th year uh on the 40th when Imam Ali dies and then the
- 51:3850th year for the next nine there wasn't a single Shia that was killed. He gave the Shia an ability
- 51:44to breathe. By the way, one of the terms was lift the sh sanctions on the Shia. How many of the Shia
- 51:49today do we see have sanctions and embargos on them. You can't buy from them and you can't trade
- 51:54from them. Let them starve economically. The say that one of the biggest sins is to deprive people
- 52:00of basic economics. This just shows you who has the stories are not just Islam 101 Sunday
- 52:07school class and that's it. Move on. That's it. Little kid stuff. It's real world application.
- 52:12The biggest crime is to deprive innocent people of basic inalienable rights like food, like water and
- 52:19like access to education and medical care. He says lift the sanctions on the Shia. Lift them. This
- 52:25embargo Muawia place. None can buy and trade and sell from them. He says the the worst of the terms
- 52:31is this one. This is the heaviest one of all the terms. Stop killing the Shia. The thing is kill
- 52:37us. We are shuada. As a wise man once said, if we are killed, we are victorious. And if we are
- 52:43victorious, we are victorious. Why are we so sad about that? Marty is a beautiful thing for us.
- 52:49Okay, if you change the sunnah, then your sunnah will never beat the sunnah of but the heaviest one
- 52:55was putting sanctions on this on this on the lovers of B. Im Hassan did this lifting what
- 53:02would be the most intense period on the lives of the followers of B. Had it not been for Immassam,
- 53:09I conclude with this, we would not be here today as lovers of B, we don't understand
- 53:15how indebted we are to his sacrifice. And all he had to do was give up political leadership.
- 53:21And you know how much he was attacked for this by even some came to him and said,
- 53:30"Pace be upon you all the one who humiliated us." Says, "Why?" He says, "Because you gave up."
- 53:35is from Allah. I can never give that up. I gave up leadership politically because if that's what it
- 53:41took to let you breathe today, then I'm willing to do it. And Allah is always with those who
- 53:47sacrifice. His generosity is so much that he's even willing to sacrifice and give away for the
- 53:53um political leadership. And none can do that unless you're someone who is known for being.
- 54:01We ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to make us like im and inshallah. We ask Allahh to grant us his
- 54:08z in the duny to grant us a shaf in the we ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to lift all oppression
- 54:15upon the lovers of Imusha in the dunya to heal those who are sick those who are injured to
- 54:21grant upon those who have left us from the and from the we ask ya Allah to bring about
- 54:27a change in this um so that inshallah tala it is one where we are all more conscious of
- 54:32the of forsha it is not worth loving if you do not follow the B as well. I say that inshallah
- 54:52Wonderful.
