3. 0:03foot and in this video we revisit this
4. 0:06huge Charlie Bill to see how he's doing

10. 0:27you okay so we've been having some
11. 0:30problems this bull went incredibly lame
12. 0:32on his front left foot we got him in the
13. 0:35crush and discovered this pouring out
14. 0:37the toe of that outside claw but that
15. 0:41was a good thing it meant we could fix
16. 0:43this bu and actually we did fix him and
17. 0:45he is going fantastically well the
18. 0:47trouble comes when the farmer PHS you
19. 0:49the next week and his other bull has
20. 0:51also gone Lam but on the other front
21. 0:54right foot this is where it got really
22. 0:56tricky though we couldn't find anything
23. 0:58wrong we used pressure testers on that
24. 1:00inside claw to determine that that was
25. 1:02where the problem was coming from so we
26. 1:04put a block on the outside claw and
27. 1:06instructed the farmer to give him some
28. 1:08pain relieving medication and seek
29. 1:10advice from the vet when he left the
30. 1:12crush he was not looking well at all and
31. 1:15I said to the farmer to call us in a
32. 1:17week if he hadn't improved well it is a
33. 1:20week later and he hasn't improved so
34. 1:23we're going to attempt to find the
35. 1:25problem once and for all the only
36. 1:28trouble is the weather's not fantastic
37. 1:31fantastic it's cases like this one where
38. 1:33everybody needs to work together as a
39. 1:35team the people on the farm the hoof
40. 1:37trimmers and the Vets involved in hoof
41. 1:39care are there for the care of the cows
42. 1:42and sometimes they need to work together
43. 1:45to eventually come up with a solution we
44. 1:48are really struggling with this bull and
45. 1:50I'm hoping that now he's in the crush we
46. 1:52can find something
47. 1:54obvious although he's not particularly
48. 1:56sore or lame on this back right foot he
49. 1:58did have twoo small problems the last
50. 2:00time I trimmed them so I take the
51. 2:02opportunity to make sure that they are
52. 2:04healing
53. 2:06up he so no ah you

55. 2:15dead really hot excessive heat within a
56. 2:18cow's hoof horn or a bull's hoof horn in
57. 2:20this case is a real sign that there
58. 2:22could be infection within the hoof
59. 2:24capsule it's not a call for me to make
60. 2:27though that is one for the farmer and
61. 2:29the vet to decide I'm here purely in a
62. 2:32hoof trimmer capacity which limits what
63. 2:34I can and cannot
64. 2:42do during the first visit trimming this
65. 2:45bill's foot there were small cracks in
66. 2:48this area of his white line they didn't
67. 2:50come to anything then but I'm hoping the
68. 2:53antibiotics that this bull has been
69. 2:55receiving will have separated the soul
70. 2:56now and I find something obvious
71. 3:00something that I can treat and something
72. 3:02that I can actually do something
73. 3:11about I feel with my hands and look with
74. 3:14my eyes if there's any signs of foul in
75. 3:16the foot in these inter digital space
76. 3:19this is a problem that can easily be
77. 3:21missed unfortunately on this occasion
78. 3:23it's not the case really struggling to
79. 3:26see the problem
80. 3:33to be completely honest I'm beginning to
81. 3:35clutch at straws there's a tiny crack in
82. 3:38the toe area of his foot I don't think
83. 3:41it is anything but I've been wrong in
84. 3:43the
85. 3:53past lot of times you drag them and then
86. 3:55it what happens is they start to heal so
87. 3:57they end up with a double soul and all
88. 3:59just go at the bottom of it I was hoping
89. 4:03that's what would happen here cuz he's
90. 4:06had like he had a full bottle of farm
91. 4:09and just over 3 days
92. 4:16like he's got I think he's going
93. 4:18slightly better but only because he's
94. 4:19got that on not because he fixed
95. 4:24in he was jumping a bit
96. 4:28when he's not not now there's a
97. 4:31possibility the problem is under the
98. 4:33block but I have my doubts tiny bit of
99. 4:36atted to take that off but I think he's
100. 4:37walking slightly better with it on do
101. 4:39you think he's going better with block
102. 4:40on or not like a I like a that's what I
103. 4:44mean like a tiny
104. 4:46bit but that
105. 4:49could I don't think removing this block
106. 4:52will make a difference and I don't think
107. 4:54it'll reveal any problems but I am
108. 4:57willing to try I'm fine with being wrong

132. 6:06bone is directly above that nail and in
133. 6:09cases like this you assume it's only the
134. 6:11tip of the nail because it couldn't
135. 6:13possibly go right the way through the
136. 6:15bone oh how wrong you can

140. 6:28God I swear to that was going to be the
141. 6:30end of a nail and I again I thought I
142. 6:33could only see the head of it and I
143. 6:34thought that's just like the tip of a
144. 6:36nail or something and the whole thing
145. 6:37for it the sheer size of that nail
146. 6:40completely blew me away luckily we were
147. 6:43due to visit this Farm anyway to treat
148. 6:45that Charlie Bull and the farmer spotted
149. 6:47this bu lame that morning so he wasn't
150. 6:51in pain for all that long a time I
151. 6:54genuinely thought there's no way that
152. 6:55would be a nail although the farmer was
153. 6:58quick Off the Mark and his as soon as
154. 6:59this bu became lame we treated them you
155. 7:02never truly know how long a nail like
156. 7:04that has been in this fot so you never
157. 7:07know what damage you're about to uncover
158. 7:10there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever
159. 7:12that nail literally penetrated its way
160. 7:15right the way through the bone within
161. 7:16the sof capsule so the mess underneath
162. 7:19could have been very substantial it's
163. 7:21cleaned up quite well actually hasn't it
164. 7:24this this antibiotic or spray that we're
165. 7:27not allowed to prescribe but the vet
166. 7:30gives the farmer to be on hand for
167. 7:32emergency situations like this ouch that
168. 7:35was far more eventful than I thought it
169. 7:36was going to be we're actually going to
170. 7:37get that other wheel back in because he
171. 7:39was walking slightly better with the
172. 7:40block on so we might as well get him
173. 7:42back in and it is kind of endless and
174. 7:44frustrating but I'd much rather put a
175. 7:46block back on him and have him walking
176. 7:47better while we're here and with that we
177. 7:50can let this little guy go and attempt
178. 7:52to get the big boy back in

182. 8:07haven't found the root cause of the
183. 8:08problems for this big Charlie bull I'm
184. 8:10more than happy that we have done
185. 8:12everything in our power to make them
186. 8:15more comfortable and that hopefully we
187. 8:17eventually will find what the real
188. 8:20problem is and as for the little Angus
189. 8:22bu just look at how well he's going now
