  1. 0:00If you want to be wealthy and happy the
  2. 0:01rest of your life, just learn this
  3. 0:04lesson. Well, learn to work harder on
  4. 0:08yourself than you do on your job. I have
  5. 0:12found in my experience that income does
  6. 0:14not far exceed personal development.
  7. 0:17Now, sometimes income takes a lucky
  8. 0:18jump, but sure enough, unless you grow
  9. 0:21out where it is, it'll usually come back
  10. 0:22where you are. Life has strange ways. If
  11. 0:25somebody hands you a million dollars,
  12. 0:27best you become a millionaire quickly.
  13. 0:29So, you get to keep the
  14. 0:31money. Otherwise, sure enough, it'll
  15. 0:34disappear. Somebody once said, "If you
  16. 0:37took all the money in the world, divided
  17. 0:39it up equally among everybody, it would
  18. 0:42soon all be back in the same pockets."
  19. 0:45Success is something you attract, not
  20. 0:47something you pursue. So, instead of
  21. 0:49going after it, you work on yourself,
  22. 0:51personal development, because true
  23. 0:53happiness is not contained in what you
  24. 0:56get. Happiness is contained in what you
  25. 0:59become. Now, if you're excited and
  26. 1:02you're ready to change, let me give you
  27. 1:05three steps to start life change that
  28. 1:07can change your life, your personality,
  29. 1:09your lifestyle. Everything can change.
  30. 1:11Here's the steps. Number
  31. 1:13one, find out
  32. 1:16how
  33. 1:19things work. To change your life,
  34. 1:22really, you need ideas.
  35. 1:25There isn't anything an idea can't
  36. 1:27change. And Schul taught me the major
  37. 1:29problem is lack of an idea. Not a
  38. 1:32problem. At first, I didn't have any
  39. 1:34money. I said to Mr. Scha, "I don't have
  40. 1:35any money." He said, "That's not a
  41. 1:36problem." Now, see, up until then, I
  42. 1:38always thought it was right. I was
  43. 1:41confused. He said, "No, no, the problem
  44. 1:43is lack of an idea on how to create
  45. 1:46money and wealth. It isn't lack of
  46. 1:48money, it's lack of ideas. So, if you
  47. 1:50get the ideas, see, you can change
  48. 1:51anything." Now to get ideas you need a
  49. 1:53constant study of finding
  50. 1:55out. If you wish to be successful, study
  51. 2:00success. If you wish to be happy, study
  52. 2:03happiness. If you wish to be wealthy,
  53. 2:06study wealth. Don't leave it to
  54. 2:09chance. Make it a
  55. 2:12study. Some people just go through the
  56. 2:14day with their fingers crossed. See,
  57. 2:16that won't do it. You've got to study
  58. 2:19the things that can change your
  59. 2:20economic, social, spiritual, personal
  60. 2:24life. Now, Schaef also said when you
  61. 2:26find out something that works, put the
  62. 2:28information in your
  63. 2:30journal. Don't use your head for a
  64. 2:32filing
  65. 2:33cabinet. Put it in your journal so that
  66. 2:36you can do the next best thing.
  67. 2:37Repetition, repetition, repetition. Go
  68. 2:40over it. And if you repeat it, go over
  69. 2:44it. Sure enough, someday, some
  70. 2:45mysterious day, the idea takes root,
  71. 2:47starts to grow, and shows up in your
  72. 2:49bank account and your dress and your
  73. 2:51personality and your
  74. 2:53lifestyle. Now, if you're
  75. 2:56curious, let me give you three ways to
  76. 2:58find out how to change
  77. 3:02anything, any life direction, any
  78. 3:05dimension. Here's three ways to find out
  79. 3:07how to change
  80. 3:08anything. Number one is to read. All of
  81. 3:11the successful people I know and work
  82. 3:13with around the world, they're all good
  83. 3:14readers. Curiosity drives them to read.
  84. 3:17They got to know. They just read, read,
  85. 3:19read, read, read, read, read, read,
  86. 3:20read. Become
  87. 3:23self-educated. Standard education will
  88. 3:25get you standard
  89. 3:26results. And you can check those numbers
  90. 3:29and see if that's what you want. But if
  91. 3:30you want to go beyond that, you now have
  92. 3:32got to become self-educated. One way to
  93. 3:34learn is from your own experiences, but
  94. 3:36another way to learn is from other
  95. 3:38people's experiences. See, one book
  96. 3:42might save you five
  97. 3:44years if you read it. Did you know
  98. 3:48there's books on how to be stronger,
  99. 3:50more decisive, be a speaker, be a
  100. 3:52leader, have a better effect on other
  101. 3:54people, develop your personality? Did
  102. 3:56you know there's books on that? Did you
  103. 3:58know that hundreds of successful people
  104. 4:00have written their stories in books and
  105. 4:02they wrote down how they did it and
  106. 4:05people don't read it? How would you
  107. 4:08explain that? Now, you don't have to
  108. 4:10read half the night, but put this in
  109. 4:12your notes. 30 minutes a day. 30 minutes
  110. 4:15a day. Read something positive,
  111. 4:17something challenging, something
  112. 4:18inspirational, something instructional.
  113. 4:21At least 30 minutes a day. Become a good
  114. 4:24reader. Now, that's my opinion. Listen
  115. 4:27to the other lecturers and listen to me
  116. 4:29and make up your own mind. Don't be a
  117. 4:31follower. Be a student. Here's the
  118. 4:34second way to find out how to change
  119. 4:36your
  120. 4:37life, and that's to listen. Get around
  121. 4:40successful people and
  122. 4:43listen. Now, you can also learn from
  123. 4:45unsuccessful people. Take notes on
  124. 4:47both, negative and positive. Find out
  125. 4:50what poor people read and don't read it.
  126. 4:52Right? That's good information. Learn
  127. 4:55from the negative. But now, you can also
  128. 4:58learn from the positive. Get around
  129. 4:59successful people. Listen to what they
  130. 5:01say. Listen to how they say it. It's
  131. 5:04important. Now, here's some of the best
  132. 5:06advice I've got for the whole evening.
  133. 5:08Poor people ought to take rich people
  134. 5:10out to dinner. And listen, that's some
  135. 5:13of the best I
  136. 5:14got. But you're right. Poor people don't
  137. 5:18usually take rich people out to dinner.
  138. 5:20The guy said he's rich. Let him buy his
  139. 5:22own dinner. I'm not coming up with any
  140. 5:24money. You're lucky to get your own
  141. 5:26supper, let alone running around trying
  142. 5:27to find a rich man to
  143. 5:29feed. and the guy's
  144. 5:32behind. If a guy's not doing well, one
  145. 5:35of the first things he ought to do is
  146. 5:37find a guy that is doing
  147. 5:39well and offer to buy him his dinner.
  148. 5:42Spend 50, $60, $800. Go for the full
  149. 5:44nine course. If you get a successful
  150. 5:47person to eat and talk for two hours,
  151. 5:49they're liable to drop ideas in your
  152. 5:50lap. Change your life. Multiply your
  153. 5:53income by two, by three, by five. But
  154. 5:56you're right. Poor people don't usually
  155. 5:59take rich people out to
  156. 6:01dinner. Now, here's the third way to
  157. 6:03find out how to change your life, and
  158. 6:06that's to
  159. 6:08observe. You can pick up a lot of ideas
  160. 6:10just by watching. Get around successful
  161. 6:12people and
  162. 6:14watch. Here's why. Success leaves
  163. 6:21clues. Watch how the man shakes hands.
  164. 6:24Watch how the lady responds. People who
  165. 6:27do well do certain things over and over
  166. 6:29and over and over. And if you're clever,
  167. 6:32you can pick them
  168. 6:33[Music]
  169. 6:35up. Watch it all. If a guy's making
  170. 6:37$10,000 a month, I'd watch how he walks.
  171. 6:40Maybe that's it. Copy his funny little
  172. 6:44walk. Somebody says, "Well, that's kind
  173. 6:46of a silly walk." Say it's
  174. 6:5110,000. I haven't got the money yet, but
  175. 6:53I got the walk.
  176. 6:55It's bound to start
  177. 6:57somewhere. What I ask you tonight is to
  178. 7:00be unusual and be a good observer of
  179. 7:02what's going on. You can pick up ideas
  180. 7:04that can change your life starting
  181. 7:05tomorrow. Just be a more careful
  182. 7:07observer. Now remember, there's two ways
  183. 7:09to
  184. 7:10see. One is called
  185. 7:13sight. See with your eyes. The other one
  186. 7:16is called
  187. 7:18insight. See with your mind.
  188. 7:21[Music]
  189. 7:24See with your eyes, you'll see things.
  190. 7:26See with your mind, you'll see
  191. 7:29answers. Put your eyes and your mind to
  192. 7:33work. And the best advice on developing
  193. 7:35sight and insight is pay
  194. 7:38attention. Don't miss anything. Wherever
  195. 7:41you are, be
  196. 7:44there.
  197. 7:46Excellent. Now, we've lingered a little
  198. 7:48bit long on number one here for personal
  199. 7:50development.
  200. 7:52find out how things work. But it's so
  201. 7:53very important, finding out. And I've
  202. 7:56given you three ways to find
  203. 7:59out. Now, here's the second step to
  204. 8:01personal
  205. 8:05development. Okay? Number one was find
  206. 8:07out how things work. Here's number two.
  207. 8:10Go to work. If there's one thing to get
  208. 8:12excited over, that's it. Get excited
  209. 8:15over your ability to make yourself do
  210. 8:18the necessary things.
  211. 8:22What could you make yourself do starting
  212. 8:24tomorrow that would change it all? No
  213. 8:28telling. Now, see, that's exciting. On
  214. 8:31any given day, you can massively change
  215. 8:34the direction of your life. Now, here's
  216. 8:36the key to discipline. Start with the
  217. 8:38little disciplines. Get excited over the
  218. 8:40little disciplines and get right on
  219. 8:43those because those will lead to the big
  220. 8:45ones. You can't handle the big
  221. 8:47challenges in life unless you take on
  222. 8:48the little ones. Make a list of all the
  223. 8:50things you can do. Get right on those.
  224. 8:52Discipline yourself for those. Both for
  225. 8:54the results and for the muscle and for
  226. 8:55the practice. So that when life hands
  227. 8:57you some big challenges, you'll be
  228. 8:59ready. You'll have the
  229. 9:01muscle. But see, if you don't handle the
  230. 9:03small
  231. 9:03ones, you can't take care of the big
  232. 9:07ones. Here's what else it takes for life
  233. 9:09change. Self
  234. 9:11motivation. Key phrase, selfm
  235. 9:14motivation. I don't know why we call it
  236. 9:16selfm motivation. It's really the only
  237. 9:17kind there is. You got to motivate
  238. 9:20yourself. And you don't want to give
  239. 9:21self motivation away to somebody else
  240. 9:23and make it somebody else motivating
  241. 9:26you. The guy says, "Boy, if somebody
  242. 9:29just come by and turn me on, what if
  243. 9:32they don't show up?" Right? See, you got
  244. 9:35to have a better plan for your
  245. 9:38life. You must now take action on what
  246. 9:42you found out. Don't let your learning
  247. 9:45lead to knowledge. you'll become a fool.
  248. 9:48Let your learning lead to action, you
  249. 9:51can become
  250. 9:53wealthy. And there's many kinds of
  251. 9:55wealth. I understand that. Not just
  252. 9:57money. Money is one of the least of all
  253. 10:00values. I know some people with a lot of
  254. 10:03money that are very
  255. 10:05[Music]
  256. 10:07poor. Now, here's the third step to
  257. 10:10personal development, and we'll wrap up
  258. 10:11personal development.
  259. 10:14Step number three, it's just a little
  260. 10:16caution. And all through life, we need
  261. 10:19little
  262. 10:20cautions. This one simply says, don't
  263. 10:24try to beat the
  264. 10:28system. Find out how it works. Work it,
  265. 10:31but don't try to beat
  266. 10:34it. Some people learn just enough to
  267. 10:36start slicing it, shading it, thinning
  268. 10:38it, cutting corners, and looking for
  269. 10:40cheap answers. See, don't fall for that.
  270. 10:42you'll wind up with a cheap
  271. 10:44life. Find out how it works best and do
  272. 10:48it that
  273. 10:51way. Even though it seems to take a
  274. 10:53little longer, do it right. Don't
  275. 10:55compromise with
  276. 10:56right. So, if I had a word with you
  277. 10:59tonight
  278. 11:00oneonone, just you and me, I think my
  279. 11:03personal advice to you would be this
  280. 11:06year 1981, reach down inside of
  281. 11:11you and come up with some more of those
  282. 11:13remarkable human
  283. 11:15gifts. They're there waiting to be
  284. 11:18utilized. And then change anything for
  285. 11:20you you want to change. And I challenge
  286. 11:22you to do that because you can change.
  287. 11:25See, you don't ever have to be the same
  288. 11:27again after tonight. Only by choice.
  289. 11:30Starting tomorrow, what are you going to
  290. 11:32do that'll make a change in your life's
  291. 11:35direction? Good question. What are you
  292. 11:37going to do starting tomorrow that'll
  293. 11:39make a difference? Now, see, if you
  294. 11:41don't do something starting tomorrow
  295. 11:42that'll make a difference, guess
  296. 11:44what? It's going to be the
  297. 11:48same. And see, that way you can guess
  298. 11:50what the next five years are going to be
  299. 11:51like. Look at the last five cuz the next
  300. 11:54five are going to be like the last five
  301. 11:56unless you major key tomorrow change it
  302. 11:59all or change a little or change
  303. 12:01something or don't change. It's choice
  304. 12:04time. You can do whatever you want. But
  305. 12:07it's nice to know any day you wish you
  306. 12:08can change your whole life.
