- 0:00You helped me turn my senior design
- 0:01project at college into my business.
- 0:04Last year we did 150.
- 0:05>> Amazing.
- 0:05>> And I want to get to 500.
- 0:07>> What do you sell?
- 0:08>> We do digital business cards for
- 0:09primarily in real estate.
- 0:11>> Digital business cards for real estate.
- 0:12>> I'm the only sales person. I have a few
- 0:14vendors.
- 0:15>> What's the value prop of the digital
- 0:16business card?
- 0:17>> It's like Linktree on steroids.
- 0:19Linktree, your phone, and your CRM all
- 0:21connected. So, yeah. What do you think?
- 0:25>> But you want to grow this?
- 0:27>> So, just to be sure, I'm not trying to
- 0:29sell. I just want to make money and then
- 0:31sell more expensive things later. Right
- 0:33now, I'm just using this to make money.
- 0:34>> To make money.
- 0:35>> Yes.
- 0:36>> Yeah, yeah. No, heard.
- 0:38Dude, I think I think if you sold
- 0:40something else, you'd make way more
- 0:41money.
- 0:42>> I agree.
- 0:43>> Okay.
- 0:43>> [laughter]
- 0:48>> But see
- 0:48>> hard pitch.
- 0:50Like what you have is a hard pitch.
- 0:52Cuz I'd be like, "Your digital business
- 0:54card is here's my Instagram. That's my
- 0:56digital business card. If you want to
- 0:57find out more about me, watch some
- 0:58content."
- 0:59You know. Um
- 1:02>> [laughter]
- 1:05>> Um
- 1:06>> [clears throat]
- 1:06>> okay. Uh
- 1:08What
- 1:09What else are you into selling, man?
- 1:10Like I just [laughter]
- 1:11I just I don't know if this is You
- 1:13obviously have the skill of sales. And
- 1:14so, I'd rather you just like use that on
- 1:16a better opportunity vehicle.
- 1:18>> Got it. Um
- 1:20Okay.
- 1:22>> It's like this world is just crumbling.
- 1:24>> [laughter]
- 1:26>> You want to hire me?
- 1:28>> Well, if you can close.
- 1:30Yeah, so.
- 1:33Ari's Is Ari over there?
- 1:34Well, there's Stephanie. Stephanie's
- 1:36right there. Stephanie's works in our
- 1:37recruiting. You can talk to Stephanie.
- 1:38>> Okay, so if me and her talk, but on the
- 1:39real note though,
- 1:40>> Oh, [laughter] that wasn't real? That's
- 1:42not a real offer. All right.
- 1:44Neither was mine.
- 1:47Two can play that game.
- 1:48>> Um
- 1:49On a real note though, like
- 1:51I don't know what I'm doing. What do I
- 1:53do in the meantime to make money
- 1:54essentially?
- 1:55>> Yeah. So, uh you were selling this to
- 1:56Who had this idea for this digital
- 1:58business what is your senior whatever
- 1:59thing right your senior project. Yeah,
- 2:01one of the biggest issues I take with
- 2:03and when I do my entrepreneur talks at
- 2:05like colleges and stuff
- 2:07the big thing that I that I hate about
- 2:09those classes is that they try and make
- 2:11seniors invent something. It's like it's
- 2:14very like invention heavy like everyone
- 2:15thinks it's Shark Tank like I have to
- 2:17invent something that doesn't exist when
- 2:19you can pretty much just like go look at
- 2:20any business that exists and just do
- 2:22that and probably make way more money.
- 2:24Like you can start a lawn care business
- 2:25tomorrow like knocking door to door and
- 2:27probably get to two or three million
- 2:28dollars a year. Just with your existing
- 2:30skill set.
- 2:33Like you're able to you know shake hands
- 2:34and kiss babies and close and so like
- 2:37like you could sell solar and make you
- 2:39know 800 grand a year on your own
- 2:42income.
- 2:43So I'm just like I'm just saying like
- 2:44there's there's like I think I would be
- 2:45looking at
- 2:47So when I was when I was doing the
- 2:48presentation yesterday I talked about
- 2:50how like now I look for products that
- 2:51people don't cancel.
- 2:54I would look for products that people
- 2:55don't cancel probably the the people
- 2:57that are similar to who you already sell
- 2:58to.
- 2:59I would look for that product
- 3:01and then I would use all my sales skills
- 3:02on that rather than trying to explain to
- 3:04them why they need a digital business
- 3:06card.
- 3:07>> Got it.
- 3:07>> Basically for your current pitch to work
- 3:09you have to
- 3:10you have to create a problem and then
- 3:12solve a problem all within one
- 3:13presentation right and also explain some
- 3:16stuff that they don't understand how it
- 3:17works right so it's kind of like three
- 3:18things. I'd rather just like talk to
- 3:19somebody who immediately already knows
- 3:21the problem that they have and I'll be
- 3:23like I can solve that.
- 3:25And I know from the history of that
- 3:26industry that they don't cancel.
- 3:29And that they're just going to buy from
- 3:30me cuz they like me better.
- 3:32>> Would you recommend that I get a like a
- 3:34sales position at another company or
- 3:36just like sell more expensive stuff or
- 3:38something?
- 3:39>> so
- 3:40>> [laughter]
- 3:41>> Um no I mean fundamentally every
- 3:43entrepreneur is a salesman at heart like
- 3:45we're the promoters and so like you can
- 3:47obviously sell for somebody else or you
- 3:48can sell for yourself.
- 3:50A a way to learn a new industry is to
- 3:52sell within that industry, kind of learn
- 3:53the ropes, and then try to basically
- 3:55just figure out lead gen uh for it. Once
- 3:57you have that, then you'll have lead gen
- 3:58and sales, and so then the only thing
- 4:00that you'd really need would be
- 4:00delivery. If you're good at sales, um
- 4:03and I'm good at training sales, which is
- 4:04a different skill, um then it comes down
- 4:07to like can I have like this is where
- 4:08like insurance sales are incredibly
- 4:11profitable. Like there's really no
- 4:12delivery, you just sell the product,
- 4:14right? And then there's these massive
- 4:15behemoths that that
- 4:17deliver the risk essentially.
- 4:19Um there's so many businesses that are
- 4:21basically demand constrained where
- 4:22people stick.
- 4:23Uh you just want to find one of those
- 4:25that you like that caters to the
- 4:26existing avatar you currently sell to
- 4:28because you already know that avatar
- 4:29well. And from if we're talking speed to
- 4:30money,
- 4:31um and then sell that.
- 4:33>> Got it. Thank you, Alex. I'll switch
- 4:35vehicles.
- 4:35>> Okay.
- 4:36>> [laughter]
- 4:37>> All right.
- 4:39>> [applause]
- 4:41>> Sweet.
