  19. 0:46in the first part of the exam i will ask
  20. 0:49you some personal questions let's talk
  21. 0:51about your leisure time when and how
  22. 0:54much leisure time do you generally have
  23. 0:56in the week uh well actually i have a
  24. 1:00quite hectic schedule in the week
  25. 1:02and i'm almost working 24 7 from nine in
  26. 1:06the morning to ungodly hours at night
  27. 1:08because i have a full-time job with a
  28. 1:11very heavy workload which i have to
  29. 1:13manage
  30. 1:14so to answer your question i can say
  31. 1:15that i don't really have much free time
  32. 1:18during the week these days right and
  33. 1:20who do you generally spend your leisure
  34. 1:23time with
  35. 1:24if i get the chance to have some free
  36. 1:26time for myself i prefer to spend it
  37. 1:28with my family
  38. 1:30since on the other occasions or the
  39. 1:32other days we don't really have much
  40. 1:35time and we are so busy with our
  41. 1:37grilling schedule so when we have this
  42. 1:39opportunity we have to take it to be
  43. 1:41together and if i want to tell you about
  44. 1:44the activities we do when we're together
  45. 1:46i can say that we just sit and watch our
  46. 1:49favorite drama series in the evenings
  47. 1:51which is called this is us and we have
  48. 1:54some joint food snacks to enjoy this
  49. 1:57quality time together
  50. 1:59wonderful and what are some activities
  51. 2:01you enjoy in your leisure time just go
  52. 2:04through them briefly
  53. 2:06um
  54. 2:07as i mentioned earlier i have a very
  55. 2:09very busy schedule and i don't have much
  56. 2:11free time for myself so sometimes i just
  57. 2:14prefer to sit and relax because i feel
  58. 2:17exhausted
  59. 2:18at times
  60. 2:19and
  61. 2:21yeah i need some uh i need to get some
  62. 2:23sleep and free up some time just to
  63. 2:25um maybe be with my family and that's
  64. 2:28also something else i would like to do
  65. 2:30in my free time we can talk with each
  66. 2:32other about the plans we have for the
  67. 2:34future just to uh you know it actually
  68. 2:37helps me figure out what i want to do
  69. 2:39about my life and it motivates me and it
  70. 2:42encourages me to keep on trying as i am
  71. 2:45yeah these are the things i normally do
  72. 2:46in my free time wonderful and what do
  73. 2:49you like about these activities
  74. 2:51altogether
  75. 2:52um
  76. 2:53i really enjoy spending time with my
  77. 2:56family especially my mother and my
  78. 2:58sister
  79. 3:00because it really
  80. 3:02gives me more energy after i'm i i'm
  81. 3:05done with my work or with my studies so
  82. 3:08it really helps me emotionally
  83. 3:10and uh i do need to hang out with my
  84. 3:14friends uh on the weekends especially
  85. 3:16because
  86. 3:18we usually go hiking
  87. 3:20and
  88. 3:21it is a very good chance to be away from
  89. 3:23the hectic pace of tehran and
  90. 3:26i can just look at the snow-covered
  91. 3:28peaks in the mountains and enjoy the
  92. 3:31fresh air so these are the things i
  93. 3:33really love about the activities these
  94. 3:35activities i do in my free time right
  95. 3:38okay let's move on to talk about animals
  96. 3:41do you like animals
  97. 3:43it depends on what kind of animal we're
  98. 3:44talking about but
  99. 3:46i can say that i like farm animals
  100. 3:49because i encounter them from time to
  101. 3:52time when i go to the countryside to
  102. 3:55have a walk
  103. 3:56and
  104. 3:58i can say that uh
  105. 4:00lamping is an extraordinary time of the
  106. 4:03year
  107. 4:03and i enjoy uh looking at the
  108. 4:07lamps suckling up to their mother i
  109. 4:09think mothers i think it's uh adorable
  110. 4:12and
  111. 4:13um i think that's the reason why i
  112. 4:15sometimes go to the uh to my uncle's
  113. 4:18farm in the northern part of iran to
  114. 4:20just see these animals and enjoy the
  115. 4:22nature right and what sort of animal
  116. 4:25would you like to have as a pet i would
  117. 4:28say i would like to
  118. 4:30have a dog as a pet but to be honest i
  119. 4:33used to be afraid of dogs until i saw
  120. 4:36coco which was uh my students pet
  121. 4:40actually and coco change made a big
  122. 4:43change in me and made me consider
  123. 4:45taking a puppy from an animal shelter
  124. 4:48which i haven't done yet but i have
  125. 4:50plans to
  126. 4:51and i would say dogs are good animals as
  127. 4:54a pet because they're compatible they
  128. 4:57can be house trained and
  129. 5:00they
  130. 5:01obey commands which i love oh that's
  131. 5:03wonderful okay thank you very much
  132. 5:05you're welcome
  133. 5:06right now in part two i will give you a
  134. 5:10card with a topic and you will talk
  135. 5:13about this topic for two minutes you
  136. 5:15have one minute to think about what
  137. 5:17you're going to say and you can make
  138. 5:18some notes to help you if you wish you
  139. 5:21understand okay
  140. 5:22so i want you to describe an interesting
  141. 5:25animal you have seen here's a piece of
  142. 5:27paper thank you the pencil and here is
  143. 5:30your topic okay okay so you have one
  144. 5:33minute to make notes
  145. 5:35please go ahead thank you
  146. 6:36okay that's the one minute up you now
  147. 6:38have uh two minutes to talk you can go
  148. 6:40ahead okay
  149. 6:42um so you asked me to talk about an
  150. 6:46exciting animal that i have seen to be
  151. 6:48honest uh in my country we usually see
  152. 6:51cats but we rarely see dogs roaming the
  153. 6:54streets
  154. 6:55which are not really
  155. 6:57the people's favorite
  156. 6:59but
  157. 7:00i mean in some other countries like
  158. 7:02canada um
  159. 7:04uh people have the chance to see see
  160. 7:06some other animals like goose bubbers
  161. 7:08skunks or even bears every day so what i
  162. 7:11want to say is that if i had the chance
  163. 7:13to live in a country like canada i could
  164. 7:15name a number of animals right now to
  165. 7:17answer your question
  166. 7:19however i remember that
  167. 7:22i went to a zoo in africa with my sister
  168. 7:25back in 2018 where i saw an african wild
  169. 7:29cat it uh actually looked similar to a
  170. 7:34huge tabby cat but it had a thicker a
  171. 7:36tail with a very a blonde
  172. 7:40tip with some black stripes i can say
  173. 7:43that it was nothing like the other
  174. 7:46wildcats i had seen before on tv
  175. 7:49and
  176. 7:50from what i heard these wildcats are
  177. 7:52fairly shy and they have been on the
  178. 7:54brink of extinction for a while which is
  179. 7:56sad and what happened that day was that
  180. 8:00we were allowed to feed the wild cats so
  181. 8:03i tried to do it but the cat approached
  182. 8:06me like he wanted to attack me and i was
  183. 8:08terrified
  184. 8:10so my sister told me that i should have
  185. 8:11been more careful because these animals
  186. 8:14these wild cats are cannot be tamed
  187. 8:16under any circumstances so in my opinion
  188. 8:20that was a really interesting uh animal
  189. 8:23because it was different
  190. 8:24and i had never seen something like that
  191. 8:26before so i can say that's the reason i
  192. 8:29can i just explain about this animal it
  193. 8:32was something
  194. 8:34extraordinary to me and
  195. 8:37to talk more about that
  196. 8:39i can say that uh thank you very much
  197. 8:42okay that's the two minutes up okay i
  198. 8:44can take your papers back now
  199. 8:46thank you very much
  200. 8:52all right in part two you talked about
  201. 8:54an interesting animal that you saw now
  202. 8:57in this part i want to ask you some
  203. 8:59questions related to this topic
  204. 9:02now how can animals cause problems for
  205. 9:04humans
  206. 9:06um to answer this question i can say
  207. 9:10that
  208. 9:11they can only pose a problem when they
  209. 9:13pose a threat to our safety or to or
  210. 9:17when they haunt the animals that we
  211. 9:19heard
  212. 9:20what i mean is that maybe some kinds of
  213. 9:23wild animals may bite us and that can
  214. 9:26result in some injuries and infections
  215. 9:28which in some cases
  216. 9:30are considered as
  217. 9:31irreparable harm to our health
  218. 9:35and um
  219. 9:37and on the other hand in my opinion
  220. 9:39maybe they can cause emotional problems
  221. 9:41like when we have a pet
  222. 9:43and uh they
  223. 9:45die due to some reasons which can
  224. 9:47contribute to some
  225. 9:48um to a very deep sorrow and sadness i
  226. 9:53would say yeah that's a problem actually
  227. 9:55right and what kind of animals do people
  228. 9:58keep as pets in your country mostly i
  229. 10:01don't really have much information to
  230. 10:02answer that question because i'm not an
  231. 10:05animal lover and i don't know many
  232. 10:06people who
  233. 10:08have pets but from what i have heard
  234. 10:10many iranians keep some birds like
  235. 10:12parrots and budgies i can say
  236. 10:16however they are allowed to fly free
  237. 10:20within the apartment
  238. 10:22but the their owners uh just make sure
  239. 10:25to keep all the doors and windows closed
  240. 10:27or they may escape and
  241. 10:30on the other hand in the past few years
  242. 10:32iranians have been
  243. 10:33uh have been
  244. 10:36showing some interest to take care of
  245. 10:39some stray puppies which i consider a
  246. 10:41really nice job
  247. 10:43wonderful and do you think animals will
  248. 10:45still be important in the future
  249. 10:49um
  250. 10:50what i predict is that
  251. 10:53yes they will absolutely have the
  252. 10:56um
  253. 10:57the same significance in the future or
  254. 10:59even more
  255. 11:00because they are actually essential for
  256. 11:03maintaining a balanced ecosystem and for
  257. 11:06the production of
  258. 11:08uh livestock which is which influences
  259. 11:12the water air or soil
  260. 11:14and
  261. 11:15as i mentioned earlier
  262. 11:17due to the reason that many people not
  263. 11:20only in iran but also in other countries
  264. 11:23have been showing
  265. 11:24an interest to
  266. 11:26take care of puppies or pets generally
  267. 11:29um
  268. 11:31and they have been supporting animal
  269. 11:33rights yes in the future we can have
  270. 11:35even more of these animals or we can
  271. 11:37bring some of them back with other
  272. 11:39cloning technology maybe
  273. 11:41and uh how do you think we can stop
  274. 11:43animals going extinct the ones that are
  275. 11:45critically endangered now this day and
  276. 11:47age i think uh it's something that uh
  277. 11:51both
  278. 11:52the government and the people have to do
  279. 11:55like
  280. 11:56first of all the government has to take
  281. 11:58some steps to just take care of some
  282. 12:01animals or establish some rules
  283. 12:03to forbid some acts which can harm the
  284. 12:07animals or their lives and on the other
  285. 12:09hand we have to just improve our own
  286. 12:11culture like the
  287. 12:13culture we have among us and not to harm
  288. 12:16the animals or um i'm not just talking
  289. 12:18about harming the animal if we just
  290. 12:21teach ourselves to take care of the
  291. 12:23animals or
  292. 12:24uh just do do nothing to them that would
  293. 12:27also work we don't need to just uh do
  294. 12:31something to improve the situation you
  295. 12:33know
  296. 12:34thank you very much okay that's the end
  297. 12:36of the test do you want to know what
  298. 12:38band score you'll get in the ielts
  299. 12:40speaking test perhaps you want to
  300. 12:42improve your performance and prepare
  301. 12:44yourself for the real test then why not
  302. 12:47book an online mock test with us that
  303. 12:49will last for 25 minutes 12 minutes of
  304. 12:53the test itself and 13 minutes of
  305. 12:55comprehensive feedback plus we'll give
  306. 12:58you useful tips on how to make your
  307. 13:00performance better remember all our
  308. 13:02examiners are especially trained by
  309. 13:05british council instructors so
  310. 13:08we know how to help you
  311. 13:10join us
  312. 13:12now we can quickly just go to your band
  313. 13:14score and then we can look at the other
  314. 13:16situation so all i can say is at the
  315. 13:18very beginning is wow
  316. 13:20thank you very much it was brilliant um
  317. 13:24that wow had a lot of meaning to it
  318. 13:26actually because you know we're looking
  319. 13:27at uh we're clearly looking at a nine
  320. 13:29here because uh you're very much in
  321. 13:32control of not only the english language
  322. 13:34but also all the the structures and all
  323. 13:36the techniques that are required for the
  324. 13:39ielts speaking test so
  325. 13:41let's go through them one by one and you
  326. 13:44can hear me out here i mean fluency and
  327. 13:45coherence
  328. 13:47we'll look at that first i mean your
  329. 13:48linking words they were wonderful they
  330. 13:50were all in the correct
  331. 13:52spots as we were looking at answering
  332. 13:55the way you were answering the questions
  333. 13:56referring to the questions even that you
  334. 13:58you didn't know what the questions were
  335. 14:00you made some reference towards the
  336. 14:01question you gave the answer and then
  337. 14:03you went on to your off topic
  338. 14:05particularly with the particularly with
  339. 14:06the discussion uh side of things which
  340. 14:09is absolutely fine as long as there's a
  341. 14:10reference towards the uh the actual
  342. 14:13answer then
  343. 14:14you're good to go basically then you'll
  344. 14:16you'll get your marks for the speed and
  345. 14:18also
  346. 14:19connecting your ideas together which was
  347. 14:21also also fantastic you had your ideas
  348. 14:23you had your sub ideas uh i would say
  349. 14:26you had a very uh you know great speed
  350. 14:29of the way you were talking um normally
  351. 14:32we would you know tell candidates to
  352. 14:34speak a little bit slower but in your
  353. 14:36case obviously you have no problem with
  354. 14:38being able to
  355. 14:40produce your idea and keep your idea
  356. 14:42going so speed didn't get in the way of
  357. 14:44anything as as we could see clearly see
  358. 14:47there and you know your intonation it
  359. 14:49sounded very natural again adding to all
  360. 14:51this fluency and coherence business um
  361. 14:54just having a general conversation and
  362. 14:56being able to express the language the
  363. 14:58best you can and then okay let's look at
  364. 15:01vocabulary now you had a wide range of
  365. 15:03vocabulary i could see you could just
  366. 15:05easily paraphrase any word and have the
  367. 15:08same meaning and use different words
  368. 15:10just to connect all those
  369. 15:12different vocabulary together and it was
  370. 15:14a wide range and you use them all in the
  371. 15:17correct places depending on the topic
  372. 15:20and depending on the the question that
  373. 15:21was asked so again i didn't really see
  374. 15:24any difficulty or any struggle with your
  375. 15:26vocabulary wonderful stuff okay now to
  376. 15:29uh grammar and accuracy the again
  377. 15:32grammar i didn't even see you have any
  378. 15:34uh grammatical errors at all actually to
  379. 15:36be honest with you and that's wonderful
  380. 15:38it would be great if everyone could do
  381. 15:40that um
  382. 15:41structure again i mean your simple
  383. 15:43sentences no problem at all complex
  384. 15:46structures you didn't have any problem
  385. 15:48with that and you didn't even stutter
  386. 15:50okay there were a few uh um's here and
  387. 15:52then maybe just very tiny bit and that
  388. 15:55would happen with any native speaker any
  389. 15:57english speaker being asked a question
  390. 15:59they they didn't know about so uh there
  391. 16:01will always be a pauses in fact pauses
  392. 16:04are good in the ielts speaking test that
  393. 16:06gives you you know a few seconds to pull
  394. 16:08yourself together and you know give out
  395. 16:10your answer
  396. 16:12so a great grammar and accuracy was
  397. 16:14wonderful uh pronunciation again with
  398. 16:17the simple pronunciations and complex
  399. 16:21harder words to pronounce i i think you
  400. 16:23were spot on and you were very clear and
  401. 16:26i don't think you would have any problem
  402. 16:28at all with that so you know we're
  403. 16:30looking we're clearly looking at a nine
  404. 16:31here this is this is a typical nine uh
  405. 16:34in the in the ielts speaking test uh i
  406. 16:36mean are there any uh questions you'd
  407. 16:38like to ask me to regarding
  408. 16:40the whole situation a bit confused with
  409. 16:42part two because the question that i was
  410. 16:45asked
  411. 16:46um i didn't really have much to say
  412. 16:48about it but what i did was going off
  413. 16:51the topic for the first i think the
  414. 16:53first minute i guess it took me one
  415. 16:55minute to talk about some other things
  416. 16:57my own experience and then i i just came
  417. 17:00back to the main topic so
  418. 17:03is that a problem no no it's not a
  419. 17:05problem at all in fact we encourage
  420. 17:07candidates to do that and i was going to
  421. 17:09make a reference to that actually you
  422. 17:10spoke for you know the full two minutes
  423. 17:12and i even stopped you in the middle
  424. 17:14that's what the examiner does they stop
  425. 17:16the candidates so when the two minutes
  426. 17:18is up that's fine and going off topic
  427. 17:20like that i mean you you gave reference
  428. 17:22to the answer straight away so you
  429. 17:24clearly understood what what the
  430. 17:25question was even though you didn't have
  431. 17:27much information or maybe you couldn't
  432. 17:29talk too much about the actual topic
  433. 17:31that was asked so we actually encourage
  434. 17:33candidates to do that and you did that
  435. 17:35perfectly you made the 30 reference
  436. 17:38towards the the actual topic and then
  437. 17:40you went off topic and it's absolutely
  438. 17:42fine to do that that's not a problem in
  439. 17:44fact that that's a technique that you
  440. 17:46know we would always
  441. 17:48encourage for our ielts candidates to do
  442. 17:51that uh because it will save you it will
  443. 17:53definitely kill off the two minutes of
  444. 17:55time and then again you you made another
  445. 17:57reference to the the actual question so
  446. 17:59that just that proves to the examiner
  447. 18:01that you've understood the question even
  448. 18:03though you don't have much information
  449. 18:04about it and you can you're there to
  450. 18:07talk and it was it was all fluent and i
  451. 18:10didn't have any problem you know with
  452. 18:11the telling it's more like telling a
  453. 18:13story that the two minutes of actually i
  454. 18:16didn't i mean going to africa didn't
  455. 18:18really happen to me i just wanted to say
  456. 18:20something and that's why i referred to
  457. 18:22an experience i never had oh that's
  458. 18:24there's nothing wrong i just wanted to
  459. 18:26explain about the topic so yeah
  460. 18:28absolutely because it's about talking
  461. 18:30for two minutes yeah and uh based on the
  462. 18:32four criteria so it doesn't matter if
  463. 18:34that's if that never happened it could
  464. 18:36be a complete fake story it doesn't
  465. 18:38matter if you're if it's true or false
  466. 18:40that in in the ielts speaking test i
  467. 18:42mean some people know this some people
  468. 18:44don't know this but being true or false
  469. 18:46really doesn't matter in in the ielts
  470. 18:49speaking test it's all about just
  471. 18:50understanding the question and getting
  472. 18:52through it with your ideas going off
  473. 18:55topic if you have to because no
  474. 18:57candidate is expected to know fully
  475. 19:00about
  476. 19:00what what topics there are i mean the
  477. 19:03brain would explode if you wanted to go
  478. 19:05through every single topic in the world
  479. 19:07and and memorize everything it's
  480. 19:09impossible and unfortunately some
  481. 19:12uh some academies do that in fact they
  482. 19:14even they inc which is not a good thing
  483. 19:16they tell them to keep studying
  484. 19:18different topics it's not about studying
  485. 19:20different topics and memorizing stuff
  486. 19:22from i think that's impossible it is
  487. 19:24impossible you're absolutely right and
  488. 19:26what what candidates would do what what
  489. 19:28you just did i would encourage all the
  490. 19:30candidates to do is when you don't know
  491. 19:32about a topic which is very likely to
  492. 19:34happen it's very natural because you are
  493. 19:36actually tested on not knowing about a
  494. 19:39topic and dealing with the situation
  495. 19:41about a topic you don't know about and
  496. 19:44you did that clearly you made reference
  497. 19:45to the question i i'm not
  498. 19:47very well informed about this topic but
  499. 19:49i can talk about this and then you
  500. 19:51answer the question in 30 and then you
  501. 19:53go on to your own topic that's
  502. 19:55absolutely fine so definitely what you
  503. 19:58did was
  504. 19:59we're looking at
  505. 20:00the correct techniques of a band score
  506. 20:03nine so very very well done thank you
  507. 20:06very much and do you there's no other
  508. 20:08questions and i guess no thank you thank
  509. 20:10you so much for the feedback oh it's my
  510. 20:12pleasure and hopefully we'll see you
  511. 20:13around sure thank you
  512. 20:20[Music]
  513. 20:21you
