- 1:2314 minutes in total and finally in the
- 1:26test room it's normally just you and
- 1:28your Examiner the purpose of the IL
- 1:31speaking test is to assess your fluency
- 1:33and coherence so that's how clearly you
- 1:36can express yourself and connect your
- 1:38ideas together The Examiner will Mark
- 1:41you on your lexical resource which
- 1:43assesses your knowledge and use of
- 1:45vocabulary you will also be marked on
- 1:48your grammatical range and accuracy as
- 1:50well as your
- 1:52pronunciation when it comes to
- 1:53pronunciation you will not be marked on
- 1:56your accent nor do I examiners prefer
- 1:59any particular accent what truly matters
- 2:02is that you communicate your ideas so
- 2:04your examiner can understand you without
- 2:07too much effort intelligibility is what
- 2:10matters the most now let's look at the
- 2:13most common questions you may be asked
- 2:15in your I speaking introduction and
- 2:17interview when you first start your
- 2:19speaking test the examiner will ask you
- 2:22can you tell me your full name please or

- 2:28my names I'm you can call me or just
- 2:33call

- 2:37show your
- 2:38identification remember this must be the
- 2:41same ID you use to register with most
- 2:44people will use a passport or national
- 2:47identity card when your examiner asks
- 2:50for your ID you can respond with sure
- 2:53here you go or sure here you are after
- 2:57you've given your name and ID your your
- 2:59examiner may ask you where are you from
- 3:03you can respond with I'm from or I'm
- 3:06originally from but I currently live in
- 3:10you don't need to go into a lot of
- 3:12detail at this
- 3:14stage next your examiner may ask you can
- 3:17you describe your hometown or can you
- 3:20describe the place where you live to
- 3:23help you think about what to say you can
- 3:25talk about the location the size what
- 3:28your hometown is known for or any other
- 3:30personal opinions and experiences here's
- 3:33an example answer for you my hometown is
- 3:37located in the south of Spain and has a
- 3:39population of about 50,000 people in the
- 3:42past it used to be a booming fishing
- 3:44town with lots of bustling markets
- 3:46happening every weekend however nowadays
- 3:49it's pretty quiet and there isn't much
- 3:51to do but it still managed to keep its
- 3:54really friendly and tight-knit
- 3:55Community you might also be asked what's
- 3:58the most interesting part of your city
- 4:00or country here's an example
- 4:03answer in my opinion one of the most
- 4:06fascinating aspects of my country is the
- 4:08traditional festivals my favorite is the
- 4:11Lantern Festival which is an annual
- 4:13event that's held in various parts of
- 4:15the country people like paper lanterns
- 4:18and let them go so they start flying
- 4:20through the sky it's a stunning sight
- 4:22and a beautiful tradition which
- 4:24symbolizes the end of the Luna New Year
- 4:27celebrations another topic that may come
- 4:30up in part one is work and studies when
- 4:33discussing what you do your examiner may
- 4:35ask you do you work or are you a student
- 4:38you can say I work as a an or I'm
- 4:42currently a student at University I'm
- 4:45studying if you say that you work your
- 4:48examiner may ask you what do you do for
- 4:50a living you can simply reply with I
- 4:53work as a my job involves I've been
- 4:56working as a um for or I'm currently
- 5:00employed as a um my main duties are
- 5:05here's an example answer for you I've
- 5:07been working as a maths teacher for the
- 5:09past 10 years at a secondary school in
- 5:12Cairo my job involves planning and
- 5:14teaching lessons as well as helping to
- 5:16organize the after school maths Club if
- 5:19you mention that you're a student you
- 5:21may be asked what do you study you can
- 5:24respond by saying I study and then the
- 5:27topic or I'm studying for my Master's
- 5:30Degree in you can also give a little bit
- 5:33more information too as to why you're
- 5:35studying that for
- 5:39example I study medicine at University
- 5:42as my plan is to become a doctor and
- 5:44work in the UK If you don't explain why
- 5:47you choose to study the subject then
- 5:49your examiner may ask you why did you
- 5:51choose that subject you can answer this
- 5:54by saying that you aspire to have a
- 5:55certain career or you have an interest
- 5:58in that topic let me give you an example
- 6:01honestly I always knew that I wanted to
- 6:04be a doctor so deciding to study
- 6:06medicine was a no-brainer for me I come
- 6:09from a long line of doctors and surgeons
- 6:12and I've always had so much admiration
- 6:14for healthc Care Professionals so I
