  1. 0:17mathematics and for today's vlog
  2. 0:20i'm kizaya hi
  3. 0:23i'm nathan c p at sarga
  4. 0:26hi there you guys ila here
  5. 0:31let's talk about ian stewart's book
  6. 0:33entitled nature's numbers
  7. 0:35chapter 2 what is mathematics for
  8. 0:38nature is full of patterns which we can
  9. 0:41admire
  10. 0:42and can remind us of what we are but in
  11. 0:45a human culture we often to ask
  12. 0:48house wise what or question
  13. 0:52but mentioned in page 14
  14. 0:55it says mathematics is brilliant at
  15. 0:58helping us
  16. 0:59to solve puzzles it is more or less
  17. 1:02systematic way
  18. 1:03of digging out the rules and structures
  19. 1:06that
  20. 1:07lie behind some observed pattern or
  21. 1:09regularity
  22. 1:11and then using those rules and structure
  23. 1:13to explain
  24. 1:14what's going on so mathematics helps us
  25. 1:17to understand
  26. 1:19the world we're living in today kepler
  27. 1:21discovered that
  28. 1:22planets move not only in circles
  29. 1:26but ellipses the nature of acceleration
  30. 1:29is not a fundamental quality but a rate
  31. 1:32of change
  32. 1:33and there it is invented calculus that
  33. 1:35helps us
  34. 1:36to work out the rates of change and the
  35. 1:38story of it
  36. 1:40brings out two of the main things that
  37. 1:43the mathematics
  38. 1:44is for that is mentioned in page 17
  39. 1:47firstly is providing the tools that let
  40. 1:51scientists calculate what nature is
  41. 1:54doing
  42. 1:55secondly is providing new questions
  43. 1:58for mathematics to sort out on their own
  44. 2:01satisfaction
  45. 2:02these are respectedly applied
  46. 2:05pure mathematics the chapter gives
  47. 2:08us clear understanding and how important
  48. 2:11mathematics
  49. 2:12is in our daily life it is a help to
  50. 2:15verify ourselves
  51. 2:17for you to express our feelings through
  52. 2:19the beauty
  53. 2:20of parents sarah mentions
  54. 2:24one of the oddities paradoxes are
  55. 2:27thought provoking things that come
  56. 2:28up in many science points
  57. 2:32which is the early way that with
  58. 2:35mathematics
  59. 2:36mathematics well done whatever source no
  60. 2:39matter how abstract
  61. 2:41it's origin eventually it carries out
  62. 2:44to be used to be applicable
  63. 2:48to the real world to explain
  64. 2:52some aspects of nature with the help of
  65. 2:55map
  66. 2:56we can better understand life on earth
  67. 2:59if we said to page 18
  68. 3:02mathematics is in the science of
  69. 3:04patterns
  70. 3:05every nature exploits just about every
  71. 3:08pattern
  72. 3:09that there is which is why you keep
  73. 3:13discovery patterns everywhere we
  74. 3:17humans express
  75. 3:21this balance in numbers but make sure
  76. 3:23that
  77. 3:24she doesn't use numbers as such
  78. 3:28she use the patterns and shapes and
  79. 3:30possibilities
  80. 3:32which the numbers express
  81. 3:36many philosophers wonder why is there a
  82. 3:38deep congruence between the human mind
  83. 3:40and the structure of the universe
  84. 3:42did god make the universe mathematically
  85. 3:45and implanted the understanding of math
  86. 3:47within us
  87. 3:47is the universe made out of math because
  88. 3:50i stand to believe that the world and
  89. 3:52even us humans are made up of
  90. 3:53mathematics
  91. 3:54we would never be convinced of what we
  92. 3:56are now without the proof of mathematics
  93. 4:00examples are here in pages 19-23
  94. 4:03are number one the discoveries of genes
  95. 4:06and the latent
  96. 4:07molecular structure of dna number two
  97. 4:09the notice of tiny
  98. 4:11numerical relationship and how
  99. 4:13proportions of plant's different
  100. 4:14characteristics
  101. 4:15number three the double helix structure
  102. 4:18of dna
  103. 4:19number four white snails have spiral
  104. 4:21shells and number five
  105. 4:22computer stimulation of the evolution of
  106. 4:25an eye from an initial mutation
  107. 4:26providing for skin cells sensitive to
  108. 4:28life
  109. 4:29published by danielle nelson and suzanne
  110. 4:32folger
  111. 4:33in 1994 math helps us
  112. 4:36determine the results of something like
  113. 4:39like how we know
  114. 4:40from the dna of our parents running in
  115. 4:42our body that's what isn't it symbolic
  116. 4:44patterns appears wherever we look
  117. 4:46wherever we are
  118. 4:48we can use mathematic geometry in all
  119. 4:50different variables
  120. 4:51in page 24 of the book it stays there
  121. 4:54that the resonance is the relationship
  122. 4:56between periodically moving bodies
  123. 4:58in which three cycles lock together so
  124. 5:00that they can take up the same
  125. 5:02relative positions at regular intervals
  126. 5:05the cycle time is the period of the
  127. 5:07system
  128. 5:08the individual bodies have different
  129. 5:10breeds the moon's traditional period is
  130. 5:12the same as its revolution around the
  131. 5:14earth so
  132. 5:15there is a one is the one resonance of
  133. 5:17its orbital and rotational period
  134. 5:20rather the dynamics of solar system is
  135. 5:22full of resonance
  136. 5:24mathematics doesn't just analyze it's
  137. 5:27also physics
  138. 5:28yeah predicts how all kinds of systems
  139. 5:31will work
  140. 5:31from aerodynamics which keeps plane
  141. 5:33applying to the amount of fertilizers
  142. 5:35required to increase club
  143. 5:37with the complicated calculation which
  144. 5:39keeps communication satellites
  145. 5:41in orbit around the earth so therefore
  146. 5:44sustained
  147. 5:44internet and mobile networks but why
  148. 5:47does philippines disable internet
  149. 5:48connection
  150. 5:50everything wouldn't be invented if it is
  151. 5:53not because of mathematics with the help
  152. 5:55of other sources as well
  153. 5:56so thanks to mathematics which helps
  154. 5:59discover these particular things
  155. 6:00and makes a life easier though just a
  156. 6:03matter of fact
  157. 6:05mathematics must be understood because
  158. 6:07mathematics
  159. 6:08is a tool to invent new things
  160. 6:12it is for everybody for the people for
  161. 6:15the nature
  162. 6:16for the person who hurts you who breaks
  163. 6:19your heart
  164. 6:20[Music]
  165. 6:22mathematics is applicable to any kinds
  166. 6:26of things
  167. 6:27whether we like it or not mathematics is
  168. 6:30a waving
  169. 6:31in all aspects of life
  170. 6:36anyone come and i had parody on
  171. 6:39mathematics
  172. 6:42something
  173. 6:45i have here my reasons for what is
  174. 6:47mathematics for
  175. 6:49mathematics must be continuous to be
  176. 6:51explored because without mathematics
  177. 6:52there would be no inventions or new
  178. 6:54discoveries
  179. 6:56we cannot be known for what we are today
  180. 6:58if it was not for the help of math
  181. 6:59in our life it gives us a clearer
  182. 7:02understanding of how things work and how
  183. 7:03we may predict future events that can
  184. 7:05help human society
  185. 7:07added to it math is useful in everything
  186. 7:09that we do
  187. 7:10and what we want to know about life it
  188. 7:13can be a tool to learn and to better
  189. 7:14understand vicinity
  190. 7:16chapter 2 basically deals with the
  191. 7:18significance of mathematics
  192. 7:20read back centuries before after this
  193. 7:22current generation
  194. 7:24and talks about where it was discovered
  195. 7:26for or simply its purposes
  196. 7:28math is required to better understand
  197. 7:30the goals almost everything around the
  198. 7:32world and
  199. 7:33things people are used for absolutely
  200. 7:35mathematics
  201. 7:36is the key yeah the key that can help us
  202. 7:39build a better future
  203. 7:40for a better generation furthermore
  204. 7:44chapter 2 tells the importance of
  205. 7:47mathematics
  206. 7:48when it comes to researching study
  207. 7:51reading researchers
  208. 7:52themselves who have a prediction of the
  209. 7:56possible things
  210. 7:57or phenomenon that could possibly happen
  211. 8:00to occur math is here
  212. 8:03you and everywhere without math
  213. 8:06in our life in nature
  214. 8:10and in everything human society
  215. 8:14with collapse and our civilization
  216. 8:17would start to go backwards so
  217. 8:20what is mathematics for math is for you
  218. 8:23for everything for everyone
  219. 8:26mathematics is life bye
  220. 8:32so like and subscribe
  221. 8:44you
