I Wasn't Expecting to Be This Excited... — Transcript

- 0:00This has been the year where
- 0:01manufacturers have finally started
- 0:02listening to us.
- 0:05Over the years, I've been harsh to a lot
- 0:07of machines. And it's because I think we
- 0:08can expect more from manufacturers. I
- 0:10think they should listen to consumers
- 0:12and to consumer trends, especially when
- 0:14prices go up. Now, this year it seems
- 0:16that manufacturers have finally started
- 0:18to listen. Going back even last year to
- 0:20the Quick Mill Pop-Up, but this year we
- 0:21had Gaggia put the PID in, we've had the
- 0:24paddle put on the Mara X, and now we
- 0:27have the Elizabeth, what I have touted
- 0:29as what I think to be the best dual
- 0:31boiler for the price point on the
- 0:33market. And they have added the Pagaea,
- 0:35the paddle, the flow control paddle to
- 0:37it.
- 0:40So, they've been listening, they've been
- 0:41taking notes, and of course the price
- 0:43went up. But, is it justified? And is
- 0:46this something that is worth your time
- 0:48or not? That's what we're going to be
- 0:49doing in today's video. We're going to
- 0:51do a full review of the Elizabeth 3
- 0:53Pagaea.
- 0:54Let's get right on into it.
- 0:59Now, this video may go a little bit
- 1:00long, of course, because I like to do
- 1:02deep dives. I don't like to make it
- 1:04really truncated just so you can have
- 1:05your 8-minute quick opinion piece. I
- 1:07want to give you a look. I want you to
- 1:10understand exactly what's going on here,
- 1:12so that if you're in the market to buy
- 1:14something, you can go in with
- 1:15confidence, whether or not you're
- 1:16wanting to do it. So, we're going to
- 1:17take a look at the insides, we're going
- 1:18to take a look at what all it does, and
- 1:20we're going to talk about the
- 1:21performance of it all together.
- 1:24Please feel free to use the time cues
- 1:26down below because uh they'll be robust
- 1:28and hopefully very helpful. Anyway,
- 1:30let's go on with it.
- 1:35Let's start off by just taking a look at
- 1:36their design language. So, right off the
- 1:38bat you notice they don't have bang,
- 1:40that big old red little LED right in the
- 1:41middle. In addition to that, they've
- 1:43taken the buttons that were once on this
- 1:44side, and they splayed them along the
- 1:46bottom.
- 1:47They took the coupling of the manometer
- 1:49as well as the screen, the LCC, the
- 1:52little LED control center, and they have
- 1:53separated it for one on each side to
- 1:56give a little bit of balance to the
- 1:57machine itself. It does seem to be 4 cm
- 2:00wider than the previous, while all the
- 2:01other dimensions are the same. Now, in
- 2:03the same way they had on the Mara X,
- 2:05they've added those two metal stripes
- 2:07down the side, which is also on their
- 2:08Fred Grinder in order to evoke a new
- 2:11type of brand language, a new brand
- 2:12design that can be put on all of their
- 2:14machines.
- 2:15They took that nasty rinky-dinky little
- 2:17tiny plastic steam wand that I
- 2:20absolutely eviscerated in my previous
- 2:21Elizabeth review, and they've put a nice
- 2:23chunky wood piece here that matches kind
- 2:26of the handles on the Mara X with that
- 2:28pentagonal style design.
- 2:30On the other side, they have matching
- 2:31wood with the pagaia, which is just that
- 2:33Italian for paddle. So, this you put
- 2:34your finger in and you can open it up
- 2:36and it'll go down. We'll go over that in
- 2:37a bit. And then, of course, they've got
- 2:39the redesigned handle on the portafilter
- 2:41right here.
- 2:42They've now put a much more substantial
- 2:44handle on it with a nice stainless steel
- 2:46piece there at the bottom, but the wood
- 2:47on all of these is incredibly nice and
- 2:49feels really good. It does seem like
- 2:51something that might get garner some
- 2:53like oils over time that'll change the
- 2:55color, I think in a good way, and you
- 2:56might need to treat it. Uh but, it feels
- 2:58really nice, really high quality, and
- 3:00the portafilter itself, I mean, it's
- 3:02it's it's a it's a good piece. Uh that
- 3:04said, I do wish it also came with a
- 3:06bottomless portafilter. My machine came
- 3:08with just a split shot, um which is
- 3:10great, and honestly, I will use it. I do
- 3:12think I I prefer actually looking at
- 3:14heavy crema shots coming out of these
- 3:16actually visually. I think it looks
- 3:19I mean, that's a that's probably
- 3:20unpopular opinion, but I do overall tend
- 3:22to prefer bottomless. It's just I just
- 3:24do. That is what it is.
- 3:28The tip of the steam wand is redesigned,
- 3:30and this one is a three-hole steam tip,
- 3:32which is going to make your steaming a
- 3:33faster process. They had two hole on the
- 3:36previous version. This one also is an
- 3:38insulated steam wand, so you won't get
- 3:39burned whenever you're touching it.
- 3:43And then, finally, the last thing to
- 3:44point out is
- 3:45the little feet on it. Now, just like in
- 3:47the Mara, this is the same really
- 3:49low-quality feeling legs. Yes, it's
- 3:51wood, but honestly, it's so thin. It
- 3:53just didn't feel substantial putting
- 3:54them on. They didn't feel like, you
- 3:56know, carved out of a single piece kind
- 3:57of thing. But, they they work, and I
- 3:59think they work a lot better on this
- 4:01machine than they did on the Mara. On
- 4:02the Mara, if you recall, whenever you
- 4:04were looking at the machine, they kind
- 4:05of stuck out of the side a bit. They
- 4:06weren't actually under the machine, and
- 4:08I thought it looked a little silly. On
- 4:10this one, I think it actually works
- 4:11really well, personally.
- 4:13So far, I think that the design change
- 4:16from the previous iteration to this
- 4:18iteration is much better on the
- 4:20Elizabeth than the Mara's design
- 4:22changes, though I still really like the
- 4:24knobs on the Mara.
- 4:26We're going to go back again, back in
- 4:28time, where I talked years ago in one of
- 4:30my early Breville Dual Boiler videos,
- 4:32talked about how Breville has a patent
- 4:34on the essentially the dimmer mod. So,
- 4:36adding a potentiometer to the pump in
- 4:38order to control the frequency so that
- 4:39you can control the pressure, the pump
- 4:41pressure coming out. That's why on the
- 4:43Dual Boiler, the Breville Dual Boiler,
- 4:44Sage Dual Boiler, you can go into the
- 4:46menu, you can change the pump pressure
- 4:48from 60% to 100%, and you can make it up
- 4:50to 90 seconds for pre-infusion purposes,
- 4:53which gives you actually a lot of
- 4:54playroom and is a really cool feature to
- 4:56have. They didn't unlock it all for you,
- 4:58but there it was. And this is something
- 5:00that for years I've been saying Breville
- 5:02really needs to unlock a manual control
- 5:05for this. I mean, they already have the
- 5:06tech, unlock it. And I've shown in past
- 5:09videos years ago how you can actually
- 5:11take a simple dimmer switch from your
- 5:13local home goods store, and you can
- 5:15route it into your typical vibratory
- 5:17pump very easily. You just got to splice
- 5:19in some wires, and you're good to go.
- 5:21You can use that dimmer mounted on your
- 5:22machine, and you've got flow control by
- 5:24controlling the voltage to the pump.
- 5:27So, for years we've been saying, "Why
- 5:28don't they do this?" Us home enthusiasts
- 5:30have had to mod our machines in order to
- 5:31get that control because that is what's
- 5:33important. Whereas, manufacturers were
- 5:35just thinking bigger and bigger boilers,
- 5:37more and more thermal stability, we were
- 5:39saying, "Stop with that crap. Give us
- 5:41flow control." So, anyway, they launched
- 5:43the Piccola this year, which is is
- 5:45the dimmer modification
- 5:47on the machine. So, you don't have to go
- 5:49in and mess with your warranty. Now, I
- 5:52first reviewed the Mara a few months ago
- 5:54with their Pagaya on it, and I thought
- 5:55it was good. It was $300 more expensive
- 5:59than the other
- 6:00than the previous version of the Mara,
- 6:02and I didn't really think it was worth
- 6:04it because the biggest changes were the
- 6:05knobs on the machine, and then really
- 6:08just that knob that the paddle on the
- 6:09side. The paddle in that one though is
- 6:12different than the one on this one. The
- 6:13paddle in that one when you start your
- 6:15shot, you can control it all the way up
- 6:17or all the way down. Going all the way
- 6:18down will shut it off essentially
- 6:20without releasing solenoid, then going
- 6:21all the way up increases it and all in
- 6:23between. And that's good. That that
- 6:25makes sense. That's close to what a
- 6:26dimmer does.
- 6:28But what a dimmer actually does when
- 6:30you're thinking about in a in a room
- 6:31where you turn your light on, turn your
- 6:33light off, is you can turn it on with
- 6:35the knob. There's an initial
- 6:37click. And then you dim it, right? And
- 6:40so that initial click is what initiates
- 6:42the light.
- 6:44We didn't have that on the Mara X.
- 6:46We have it in the Elizabeth.
- 6:48So, you don't even need to touch a
- 6:50button. You just start
- 6:53>> [music]
- 6:54>> and there's that
- 6:55click right there. So, that is a huge
- 6:58difference and a very welcome difference
- 7:00that you can start and stop your shots
- 7:02with the Pagaya. Now, in addition to
- 7:04that, and arguably what I'm more excited
- 7:06about, I don't know. It's it's I'm I'm I
- 7:08am most excited about the guy, but this
- 7:09this next thing is actually very
- 7:10exciting because it's something that you
- 7:13don't really get on a non-screen
- 7:15machine.
- 7:16They have given you the opportunity with
- 7:18these two buttons right here to have two
- 7:20pressure profile recipes.
- 7:23Yes. Now, you know you're going to
- 7:25Lance, you're not a big pressure profile
- 7:26fan. You're correct, I'm not. But if you
- 7:29tell me I can have two preset pressure
- 7:31profiles without having to have a screen
- 7:33and I can have flow control, that is a
- 7:35huge plus in my book. I absolutely think
- 7:37that's fantastic for the majority of
- 7:39consumers out there. Now, don't get me
- 7:41wrong.
- 7:42I'm still choosing the Micra, my baby,
- 7:4410 times out of 10 over any espresso
- 7:46machine on the market. Obviously, I mean
- 7:49the That's that's just my style of
- 7:51shots. But, I review things not for me,
- 7:53but for the every person. I think
- 7:55overall, the majority of people who are
- 7:56getting into coffee, I know from
- 7:59comments, most of you don't want to mess
- 8:00with a screen, don't want software
- 8:01updates, don't want to mess with all of
- 8:02that. You want something that you can
- 8:04manually feel and control and have some
- 8:06good feedback on, and you want something
- 8:07that you can just mindlessly go for. So,
- 8:09inside of the Lelit control center, you
- 8:11can actually go through and program in
- 8:12your pressure and your time for five
- 8:14different stages. Meaning, you can do a
- 8:16three bar for five seconds and a nine
- 8:18bar for four seconds and a six bar for
- 8:20seven seconds, and you can mess around
- 8:22with those five stages to your heart's
- 8:24content. Again, flow rate is my
- 8:26preference, but actually having a
- 8:28measurement for flow rate is much more
- 8:30difficult. What they're doing here is
- 8:31they're just doing using the same
- 8:33technology as the dimmer here, except
- 8:35with preset numbers. So, nine bar is a
- 8:37certain amount of pump pressure, right?
- 8:39Eight bar is a certain amount of pump
- 8:41pressure, the voltage to the pump. Now,
- 8:42of course, I went through and measured
- 8:44the flow rates.
- 8:46Now, I have them all on the back of the
- 8:48new pressure profile card, but
- 8:50So, before we go over some of these
- 8:51numbers, I'm going to show you though,
- 8:53this came in the in the booklet or with
- 8:55the booklet, and it shows an update to
- 8:58the pressure profiling button. So, in
- 8:59the manual, they say the pressure
- 9:01profiling buttons are two specific
- 9:03recipes, but they have since changed it
- 9:05and they didn't reprint, you know, this
- 9:07beefy boy.
- 9:09So, they added this little pamphlet in
- 9:11with the machines to tell you that
- 9:12they've changed it. Now, the two
- 9:14buttons, if it's factory, which mine is
- 9:16no longer factory, of course, I've
- 9:17messed with them. The first button, when
- 9:19you get it in your box, is what they
- 9:21call a lever shot profile, a traditional
- 9:24profile. They have step one is three bar
- 9:27pressure for five seconds, step two is
- 9:29eight bar for 10 seconds, step three
- 9:31nine bar for 25 seconds, step four eight
- 9:33bar for 10 seconds, then step five is
- 9:35seven bar in perpetuity. So, what
- 9:38they've done also with this machine is
- 9:39it's a new vibratory pump that's even
- 9:41more silent than the previous and has a
- 9:42much higher water debit, which is
- 9:45awesome. If you all recall, typically in
- 9:47the Lites with the old silent silent
- 9:49vibratory pumps, you're getting a max
- 9:51like five five and a half mils a second
- 9:53water debit. This is going way above
- 9:55that to almost 10 to 10 10 and a half
- 9:58even. So, they've got a new pump in
- 10:00here, which is allowing for a much more
- 10:01robust duty cycle. Normally on vibratory
- 10:05pumps like Olcas, you have a 60-second
- 10:06or a 90-second duty cycle. This bad boy,
- 10:09you can do up to five minute shot times,
- 10:11up to 299 seconds. That's crazy. So,
- 10:15these two shots, they are based off of
- 10:17time. So, obviously it's not ideal. It's
- 10:19not as nice as having like software
- 10:21where you can put move on when there's
- 10:23five grams in the cup cuz there's no
- 10:25gravimetrics here. Move on when pressure
- 10:27hits this. You don't have that. It's
- 10:29much more simplistic. It's much more
- 10:30bare-bones, but no other machine that's
- 10:32a dumb machine has that. That's good
- 10:35enough if you're doing like a lever
- 10:36style. So, the idea with this was they
- 10:38wanted, you know, three bar, eight bar,
- 10:39nine bar, eight bar, seven bar.
- 10:41I don't like that. I changed it. I think
- 10:43there are better lever style approaches
- 10:45you can do.
- 10:46Um
- 10:47so, I actually programmed one, of
- 10:48course, that we'll take a look at later
- 10:49on button number two. Uh and then their
- 10:51other one that comes stock on their
- 10:53button two out of the box is a modern
- 10:55shot. And this makes me think that
- 10:57they've been watching uh my channel cuz
- 10:58they changed it to this. Before they had
- 11:00it at nine bar, and it was modern shot
- 11:01in their pamphlet. But they've changed
- 11:03it to step one two bar for 15 seconds,
- 11:06step two six bar.
- 11:09Step three five, then four, then three.
- 11:11It is exciting that they've come through
- 11:12and offered that. Now, I've gone through
- 11:14and actually recalibrated these uh to
- 11:16two different shots. I've put a
- 11:17substance style shot on the first
- 11:20button, which if you're unfamiliar,
- 11:21Substance is a cafe in Paris run by my
- 11:23friend Joaquin, and he is notorious for
- 11:26his very unique Slayer style shots.
- 11:28He'll do a 20-second pre-infusion at
- 11:301.33 ml a second, which is the first
- 11:33position on a Slayer espresso machine.
- 11:35And then, he'll do anywhere from 5 to 15
- 11:38seconds of full flow, which on the
- 11:40Slayer, I can't remember the water
- 11:41debit, something like 8 or 10 ml a
- 11:43second, but he'll let it go, and it's
- 11:45anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds, and you
- 11:47might be building up to like two or
- 11:49three bar of pressure. There've been
- 11:50people saying it's higher than that, but
- 11:52it's If it's 5 seconds, you're not even
- 11:54reaching two bar. Anyway, so I have this
- 11:57set for 20 seconds of half a bar, cuz
- 11:59you have to do it by bar. Uh it's not
- 12:01quite 1.33, it's closer to two or so in
- 12:03my measurement, but still. And then
- 12:05after 20 seconds of that,
- 12:07it is it's trained to go up to about
- 12:09seven uh bar of pressure. The water
- 12:11debit that I measured, by the way, is
- 12:12without anything
- 12:14inhibiting the flow. So, if I do 20
- 12:17seconds of 0.5 bar, yes, it starts off
- 12:20going at around two 2.2 ml a second, but
- 12:23it can't continue pushing after about
- 12:260.5 bar of pressure. So, we have that
- 12:28for the for one of them, and then the
- 12:29second one is a lever style shot,
- 12:31something that I uh did to emulate more
- 12:33so a lever in my experience with steam
- 12:35pre-infusion to the best of my ability.
- 12:38Now anyway, let's get back to our
- 12:39numbers.
- 12:40We'll put these on the screen so that
- 12:41you can kind of screenshot it if you
- 12:42want to know, but I used the BrewMeO app
- 12:45and a Bluetooth scale in order to
- 12:47ascertain these. I let them run 10
- 12:48seconds each, so it's the average over
- 12:5010 seconds, essentially. So, half a bar
- 12:53is around that 2 and 1/2 ml a second,
- 12:55one bar is about 3 ml a second, two bar
- 12:575 ml, three bar 5 and 1/2, four bar 6
- 13:00and 1/2, five bar eight, six bar eight
- 13:02and 1/2. So, it's not linear, as you
- 13:04hear. It's It's not linear at all,
- 13:05which, you know, c'est la vie. It's
- 13:07That's not really what they're aiming
- 13:09for, they're aiming for that pressure,
- 13:10but these are the resulting water
- 13:12debits. Of course, water debit changes
- 13:14once it hits resistance, but this is
- 13:16when it's uninhibited. Seven bar is 9
- 13:18ml, eight bar is 9 and 1/2, nine bar is
- 13:2010 ml a second, which is awesome.
- 13:23Then on the Pavoni Caravel, they
- 13:24actually show you, which this is also
- 13:26something that
- 13:28This is this is just great. They also
- 13:29show you when you're doing the fogaya
- 13:32the percentage the paddle has been
- 13:33moved.
- 13:36And on the screen they also show the bar
- 13:37of pressure, the back pressure. There's
- 13:38no back pressure right now, so it shows
- 13:40zero, but they have a blue a transducer
- 13:42inside, a pressure transducer, that
- 13:44shows you the back pressure right there
- 13:46on the screen. So at the top you see the
- 13:48percentage of the fogaya paddle, and
- 13:50then you see the bar of pressure, and
- 13:51then you see the time of extraction. So
- 13:54I measured randomly I put 1% 5% and then
- 13:57by every 10.
- 13:58At 1% of the paddle you get 1 and 1/2 ml
- 14:02a second water debit. At 5% 2 and 1/2,
- 14:0510 is 3, 20 is uh just under five, 30 is
- 14:09six, 40 is seven, 50 is seven and a
- 14:11half, 60 is eight, 70 is eight and a
- 14:13half, 80 is nine, 90 is nine and a half,
- 14:16and 100% is 10. So this is going way
- 14:19faster than the previous Lelit's with
- 14:22this new vibratory pump inside, and it's
- 14:24still quite quiet in comparison to a lot
- 14:27of other machines taking into account
- 14:29the Decent for example, or the Gaggia's
- 14:31or anything like that. It's way more
- 14:32silent, which is fantastic. We will open
- 14:34this up in a little bit after we pull
- 14:36some shots and take a look, but they
- 14:37have made some changes inside. First of
- 14:39all, they have a 600 ml stainless steel
- 14:41steam boiler.
- 14:43So that's really nice. Stainless steel,
- 14:44you know, chef's kiss, I love that. Now
- 14:46for the boiler they did change it. The
- 14:48boiler is no longer 300 ml, it is now
- 14:51200 ml. Now I know some of you may go,
- 14:53"Oh, they went smaller, that's worse." I
- 14:55actually argue it's better. I've been
- 14:56telling people for years they need to be
- 14:58going on smaller boilers. Down to that
- 14:59200 ml I think is fantastic. Give me a
- 15:02smaller boiler. I want faster, I want
- 15:04less water heat up at the same time, I
- 15:05want less gross water. Thank you. Chef's
- 15:08kiss. So they went down to 200 and it's
- 15:10a brass boiler.
- 15:12Now something else that they changed is
- 15:13they have a new 58 mm Lelit like group
- 15:16head. So it was 58 before, yes, but now
- 15:19what they've done is they have stainless
- 15:20steel heating element in the saturated
- 15:22group, which is going to further help
- 15:24with that uh uh saturation. So, what's
- 15:26really unique is when you turn this
- 15:27machine on, it is 100% ready in 9
- 15:30minutes. That's their claim, and that is
- 15:32what happens. I actually did do the
- 15:34measurements for that, and at 9 minutes,
- 15:36even though it will read a little higher
- 15:38temp on the screen, it is at that set
- 15:41temperature. So, for example, right now,
- 15:43you can always click It's showing what
- 15:45we're set at, right? You can always
- 15:46click the plus button, and it'll show
- 15:48what the brew boiler is currently at.
- 15:50Now, you have to take this with a grain
- 15:51of salt. The brew boiler temperature is
- 15:53based off of a probe inside. So, that
- 15:55may not be what's realized out of the
- 15:57group head, because it also has a heated
- 15:59group head. So, the temperature here is
- 16:01helpful to know what the temperature is
- 16:02at, but it may not reflect exactly
- 16:04what's coming out. A better reflection
- 16:06genuinely is what you have it set at.
- 16:08What they do when this machine starts up
- 16:10in order to give you that my 9-minute
- 16:11heat time is it initially prioritizes
- 16:14the brew boiler. Right when you turn it
- 16:16on, within the first minute or so,
- 16:17you're already at almost 100° C in the
- 16:20brew boiler. And it goes past 100° to
- 16:22120 I think I saw mine top out at 121° C
- 16:26for the brew boiler.
- 16:28And it sits there, so it fully heats up
- 16:30everything that's in the pathway of that
- 16:32brew boiler. We've noticed that whenever
- 16:34you just heat it up to the temperature
- 16:35you want, it takes a few shots, or it
- 16:37takes a lot longer for everything to
- 16:39stabilize thermally. But what they've
- 16:41done is they've said, "Hey, you know
- 16:42what? Let's prioritize the brew boiler.
- 16:44Let's really heat that sucker up. Then
- 16:47we'll go heat up the steam boiler."
- 16:48Because people are pulling shots before
- 16:49they steam. They heat that up at about
- 16:51minute three, maybe four, then it starts
- 16:54to superheat up that 600 mil steam
- 16:56boiler. And by 9 minutes, both are ready
- 16:59to go. The steam boiler is at 140, and
- 17:01the brew boiler is at that set
- 17:03temperature. Now, again, it will say on
- 17:05here a higher temp. I believe mine, uh
- 17:07the last time I measured it, which I
- 17:09have it set at 90, it said 99 at the
- 17:119-minute mark, but when I scaced it,
- 17:13with even with a cold scace, it heated
- 17:15up, and it ended up at 89.6
- 17:18with a cold case. So,
- 17:21we're and that was after about 20
- 17:22seconds it finally equalized to like
- 17:2389.6. So, you are good to go with that,
- 17:27which is fantastic. 9 minutes that for a
- 17:30traditional dual boiler machine, that is
- 17:33fantastic. All right? Now, of course,
- 17:35I'm spoiled, you're spoiled. If you have
- 17:37like a Bambino, Thermojet, flow-through
- 17:39heaters, yes, 1 minute, 15 seconds, 3
- 17:42seconds, that's better than 9 minutes.
- 17:44But, there is still a huge proportion of
- 17:46people that want a dual boiler. They
- 17:48want to steam, they want to
- 17:50extract same time, they want the
- 17:51longevity of boilers, the simplicity of
- 17:53taking them out and descaling them for
- 17:55longevity again. And I get that. And so,
- 17:58again, that's why we're making this
- 17:59video. I'm not actually going to spend a
- 18:01lot of time doing skase testing in this
- 18:03video because we did that for the past
- 18:04Elizabeth. That past Elizabeth was great
- 18:06and I think this one is even potentially
- 18:08a little bit better, but if you think
- 18:09your shots taste bad to because of
- 18:11temperature, no, just get good. That's a
- 18:12skill issue. I'm sorry. It's not the
- 18:13temperature. It's not.
- 18:15All right, let's grab our basket. So,
- 18:17I'm going to open up our little
- 18:19By the way, we have cleaning supplies.
- 18:20We've got the water filter. I have
- 18:22perfect water, so I'm not using it, but
- 18:23you should unless you're doing perfect
- 18:25water.
- 18:26Little blank basket. Then inside the
- 18:28portafilter, we have a single shot
- 18:29basket,
- 18:30which is
- 18:32whatever.
- 18:33Uh then we have 14 18 by IMS that has
- 18:35that nice little taper on it. And then
- 18:37we have, boom,
- 18:39bigger basket for like what is it? 20 to
- 18:4318 to 21. Now, y'all better believe I've
- 18:45been mostly using my own baskets. Before
- 18:46this demo, I'll use the baskets that
- 18:48come with it cuz they are good. Except,
- 18:50not a fan of the single shot. Y'all know
- 18:52my thoughts on single shots unless it
- 18:53has unless it's like step down, I don't
- 18:55want it. All right, so let's take that
- 18:57big boy basket, pop that in, and we'll
- 18:59pull substance style shot then a lever
- 19:01shot.
- 19:06All right, we have a lightly roasted
- 19:08pink bourbon from Colombia that I have
- 19:10put in here for the substance style
- 19:12shot. Now, again, to remind you, that's
- 19:13a 20-second pre-infusion of about 1 and
- 19:151/2 ml a second ideally. This is closer
- 19:18to two cuz it's at the half bar uh what
- 19:20I have programmed here. And then after
- 19:2220 seconds, it's going to ramp up
- 19:24essentially just put as push as much
- 19:25pressure as it can. You'll notice so it
- 19:27doesn't really get that high. But
- 19:28anyway, here it goes.
- 19:31All right. And we're doing 20 g in the
- 19:33portafilter. I'm going to aim for about
- 19:3450 out. 50 to 55.
- 19:38So, we're at that [music] 20-second half
- 19:40bar. You hear how quiet that is?
- 19:43Cuz it's doing low work. It's only doing
- 19:44half a bar. Here comes some drips.
- 19:51Now it's ramping up.
- 19:53We can see the pressure doesn't get too
- 19:54too high,
- 19:56which is purposeful.
- 19:59And then we're going to stop it. Bang.
- 20:01Right at about 55 out in a 30 seconds.
- 20:04So, we have about 10 seconds of
- 20:05infusion. That's right in that window
- 20:07that is typical with the Slayer style or
- 20:09substance style Slayer shot. But there
- 20:12we go. It's got like a nectar-looking
- 20:14thickness about it.
- 20:16But let's take a sip.
- 20:22Straight juice. Straight nectar.
- 20:26Heavy berry compote.
- 20:29>> [snorts]
- 20:32>> It's really lovely.
- 20:436.8
- 20:47This pouch sucks.
- 20:57All right. Here comes the lever style
- 20:58shot that I've programmed. We'll go into
- 21:00the menu in a bit to show you what these
- 21:01programs look like, but here's an
- 21:03example.
- 21:05You can the pressure gauge as it goes
- 21:06through pre-infusion to the full
- 21:07infusion
- 21:08and all of that.
- 21:42I have it descending more and there we
- 21:44go.
- 21:45So that was it just under a 1:2
- 21:48in 44 seconds, which is pretty typical
- 21:50of a lever when you do that initial
- 21:51saturation. And I'll show you again what
- 21:53what this looks like in there, but look
- 21:54at that gorgeous.
- 21:56And again, pretty damn quiet.
- 21:59>> [snorts]
- 22:02>> It ain't no soccer crema bar, but it's
- 22:04all I had for you those of you who freak
- 22:06out when you don't see a really thick
- 22:07shot. Hugo will probably give us a -7,
- 22:09but I'm going to make him drink it cuz
- 22:10he rated the other one lower than it
- 22:11should have been.
- 22:14Yeah, enjoy it.
- 22:17These people need to see crema or they
- 22:19think a machine can't pull espresso. So
- 22:21we had I'm working with what I got.
- 22:23Saka, I need more crema bar, baby. I got
- 22:25to order some.
- 22:25>> Mine is
- 22:2730.
- 22:28>> I was going to say 27.
- 22:29Um
- 22:30That was no fault of the machine, by the
- 22:32way. It's just the coffee is not good
- 22:34itself. But look gorgeous and a lot of
- 22:36you are like, "I need to see crema or
- 22:38the machine's not very good."
- 22:47All right, now we're going to do a
- 22:48Pagliacci shot. So all we're going to do
- 22:49to start it is I'm going to Please make
- 22:51sure to watch this. Check this out.
- 22:52Bang. Look at that. We're at We'll go to
- 22:55100% power. Then we're going to go down
- 22:57to like zero. Let it bloom. You see I
- 22:59didn't click it off, though.
- 23:01And we're going to go up to 50
- 23:03ish. There you go.
- 23:0550.
- 23:07Now let's get that flow higher. Let's go
- 23:08up to like 90.
- 23:11Now we're going to just slowly go back
- 23:13down. Watch that pressure gauge react.
- 23:16We're at 2.8 bar, 2.7, 2.5
- 23:21to nothingness. Look at that.
- 23:2368 out. That's a nice modern shot right
- 23:26there. That was in 28 seconds. Bottom of
- 23:29the bottom of the boom. And now just to
- 23:31show you guys I forgot, I'm going to
- 23:32start this shot. Now, this has spent
- 23:34coffee in it so it's going to look
- 23:35really ugly, but it doesn't really
- 23:36matter. We're going to start the shot
- 23:37here.
- 23:38And then you hit the plus button and it
- 23:40shows temperature of brew boiler,
- 23:41temperature of steam, and then the time.
- 23:43You hit it again though, you see
- 23:44pressure that it's supposed to be,
- 23:46pressure that it is, and then the time.
- 23:49So, there we have this and then watch,
- 23:51it's going to go up in a second
- 23:54of what the ideal is and then what it
- 23:56actually is. Let's come on. There we go.
- 23:58So, it's supposed to be at seven and
- 24:00it's building. It can't build cuz it's a
- 24:02spent puck, but anyway, so you can watch
- 24:04it in real time as well on these shots.
- 24:05So, not only does the Pagaea show this,
- 24:07but they show you real-time back
- 24:10pressure and set pressure. But anyway,
- 24:12let's take a sip.
- 24:27Future of your job is on the line here.
- 24:32>> 10.
- 24:33>> I knew it.
- 24:35>> [snorts]
- 24:35>> Mhm.
- 24:36We'll be back in a second. Let me finish
- 24:37this drink.
- 24:41That is good. I don't care what you say.
- 24:43>> No, no, no, no, no. I was kidding.
- 24:45It's It's okay.
- 24:46>> That is super good.
- 24:48Wow.
- 24:50There's the purge. Not much to purge and
- 24:52then bang, high pressure.
- 24:54Does a good job.
- 24:56Nothing out of the Nothing crazy. It's,
- 24:59you know, it's a good steam wand. I
- 25:00don't like wasting time on steam wands
- 25:02because you either know how to steam
- 25:03milk or you don't. And if you don't,
- 25:05it's simple to learn. Learn it. Don't
- 25:06complain when you have a good steam
- 25:08wand. This is a good steam wand.
- 25:12Oh, actually, one thing I forgot. Uh
- 25:14drip tray. It is all plastic except for
- 25:16just this little cut coating out here.
- 25:19They do have
- 25:22They do have two little walls right
- 25:23here, which is nice, but I kind of I
- 25:25wish they had one like
- 25:27another one here. What The reason why
- 25:29you have these is it breaks up the
- 25:30capability of it to go crazy when you're
- 25:32walking, but side to side it's still It
- 25:35can still go pretty crazy. I wish they'd
- 25:36put one more little fin right there. So,
- 25:38when you're walking to the sink, if you
- 25:40accidentally go side to side, it's not
- 25:41going to drip. But, like look, when you
- 25:43go this way,
- 25:44because those are there, it breaks up
- 25:46the flow, right? So, we just need, you
- 25:48know, more there. But, you know, this is
- 25:50a fine drip tray. It's a little shallow,
- 25:52but it's big, beefy, and you don't
- 25:55You don't waste a lot of water on this,
- 25:57which is really nice. They reuse it. In
- 25:58fact, a lot of this is because I let a
- 26:00shot keep running in the drip tray. So,
- 26:02that's That's why there's like coffee in
- 26:04here. Let's take a quick look at the
- 26:05LCC. So, you hit that minus button, and
- 26:08you're able to change the the
- 26:10temperature. We go right with the plus
- 26:12sign. This is all in the manual, so we
- 26:14won't like spend too much time here, but
- 26:16simply to change it, you'll hit that
- 26:17Whoops, we got to get back to the menu.
- 26:19So, there we go. You hit that. We can go
- 26:21down. We can go up.
- 26:25Whatever it is. And we're going to get
- 26:26back to 90. Let it flash three times,
- 26:29and then it's set. Boom. We go to the
- 26:31next one, which this is This as I was
- 26:33telling you, the first two are done by
- 26:35time. So, you can set overall 60
- 26:36seconds, or you can in- increase it.
- 26:39What it'll What it'll change is the
- 26:40fifth step. The fifth step in the
- 26:42pressure profile has no time limit. So,
- 26:44it's just going to keep running at
- 26:45whatever that fifth step is. That's the
- 26:47goal. So, if it's seven bar, it isn't
- 26:49going to be able to do seven bar in
- 26:50perpetuity. It's going to be losing
- 26:52pressure, but it'll flow at seven bar
- 26:55pump pressure as far as the amount of
- 26:57voltage going to the pump. So, let me
- 26:59break this down one more time for you to
- 27:00kind of understand what it means when
- 27:02it's saying seven bar. It's saying the
- 27:03peak pressure that pump can generate is
- 27:06seven bar. Because it's doing it though
- 27:09based off of pump pressure and not off
- 27:11of an OPV, it's not going to have as
- 27:13fast of a flow rate if you were to do
- 27:15nine bar, right? That's why I went
- 27:18measured all the flow rates of
- 27:19uninhibited flow from the group head.
- 27:21The way it's doing it is not relying on
- 27:23a physical mechanism with a spring where
- 27:26once nine bar is hit, it shunts excess
- 27:28flow. Instead, it chills the flow out so
- 27:32that it can't actually build as much
- 27:33pressure. So, the max pressure genuinely
- 27:36at seven bar is seven bar, and it's not
- 27:38because we're shunting flow to maintain
- 27:40seven. It's because we're modulating the
- 27:43wattage or the voltage to the pump
- 27:45itself, the frequency to the pump so
- 27:47that it's not able to generate as much
- 27:48pressure. Make sense? So, when it's at
- 27:51seven or if you ended at three, it's
- 27:53going to go at the max flow rate that it
- 27:55can depending on the resistance that the
- 27:58puck is giving it. So, like I showed you
- 28:00on these different um flow rates. So,
- 28:02anyway, we get back to menu, which is
- 28:03this. Then we can go through them like
- 28:05that. That's shot number two, 60 seconds
- 28:07overall. Then shot number one, this is
- 28:08disabling it or or enabling it. Right
- 28:11here is where we can actually change
- 28:14each step.
- 28:16So, right now for the substance saw
- 28:18shot, it's one bar for 20 seconds, but I
- 28:20can change the one bar to half a bar
- 28:21like that.
- 28:23There we go. Boom. Now we can change it
- 28:2520 seconds
- 28:27like so, but I wanted it 20 seconds.
- 28:29We'll let that go. We go to the next
- 28:31one, which is seven bar, and then I have
- 28:32the next one at seven, then zero and
- 28:34zero. Now, something to point out is you
- 28:36can set, because there are five, I just
- 28:38put the last two at zero. Because you
- 28:39can set a stage to zero, that would be a
- 28:41bloom. So, let's say you wanted six bar,
- 28:44and then you wanted it to bloom. So, you
- 28:45could put zero bar for 10 seconds and it
- 28:48will bloom. It will stop the pump. It
- 28:50will stop giving free It's just like if
- 28:51we were to open this up
- 28:54and go to here. Here the pump stops.
- 28:56Whoops. Yeah.
- 28:57You hear that? Pump stopped, but the
- 28:59solenoid hasn't released cuz look,
- 29:01we're still going.
- 29:05Right?
- 29:06Now the solenoid releases, okay? When
- 29:08that click happens. So, same thing
- 29:09happens in the blooming. You can put it
- 29:11at zero bar and it will bloom. You can
- 29:13make that a phase. You could bloom as
- 29:15the third phase or that you could do
- 29:16three bar to nine bar bloom, whatever.
- 29:19But that's that's what you can do. So,
- 29:20let's get back to
- 29:23this. So, that's enabling or disabling
- 29:26the second and then this is the second
- 29:28pressure profile. And then we have steam
- 29:30temperature. We can change the steam
- 29:31temp. We can turn the steam boiler on or
- 29:33off.
- 29:34Boom. No more steam boiler. So, it's
- 29:36going to cool down cuz I don't ever use
- 29:37it. That I don't need to heat up all
- 29:38that water.
- 29:39Don't need it. We're going to keep on
- 29:40going. Do we want to Celsius or
- 29:42Fahrenheit? And then we can have the
- 29:43barista lights on or off. And then it
- 29:45shows the shots. So, the last one is a
- 29:46shot counter. This shows essentially the
- 29:48shots I've pulled during the video cuz I
- 29:49had a factory reset before filming. So,
- 29:52you can see the shots that you have. But
- 29:53now look, it shows brew boiler is on,
- 29:55steam boiler is off.
- 29:56So, that's what you can do inside of
- 29:58that
- 29:59menu. Let's continue.
- 30:02Now, first things first, I got the big
- 30:04beefy 2 and 1/2 L water tank. Now,
- 30:06something they did change is they don't
- 30:07have the cords going in the machine
- 30:08anymore. They opted for the under so
- 30:10that you don't have to clean those
- 30:11tubes. Now, I understand that for like
- 30:14simplicity the simplicity, the work, the
- 30:17the use that is preferred for a lot of
- 30:19people. I have found with owning
- 30:22probably up close to 100 machines at
- 30:24this point that when you have the bottom
- 30:25entry point, that's where more issues
- 30:27can come up if you bump it in the wrong
- 30:30way or mess something up, it gets a
- 30:31little more annoying down there because
- 30:33the the connections are can be fragile.
- 30:36Um whereas with the tubes in the top,
- 30:38yeah, you have to maintain them and
- 30:39clean them, but those are forever.
- 30:42That's like I I when I restore old
- 30:43gauges that have them that go straight
- 30:45to the drip tray, you just replace with
- 30:46other silicone. It's not a big deal. You
- 30:48know, this is actually nicer for me, but
- 30:50if I were a long-term user, uh you know,
- 30:52years and years and years, you know, I
- 30:54would personally prefer tubes going in.
- 30:55But someone in my Patreon is going to be
- 30:57getting this machine. And if you're
- 30:58wanting to potentially be one of those
- 30:59people, check out my Patreon down below.
- 31:02Anyway, let's put this to the side.
- 31:04Continue on.
- 31:06Okay. So, I need uh there's a Phillips
- 31:09head on the ground I think maybe.
- 31:15All right, and we are open. So, in order
- 31:17to get to this, you may be like, "Oh my
- 31:18god, was that difficult?" It really
- 31:20wasn't. I took out one screw to take the
- 31:21top off, and then there were five screws
- 31:23to take the shell off, and then five
- 31:25extra screws cuz there's another piece
- 31:27of metal that sits here kind of blocking
- 31:29off where uh the PCB and everything is,
- 31:31so it's separated from any potential
- 31:33moisture. Uh so, all in all, 11 screws
- 31:35and then two extra that just needed to
- 31:37be loosened, but you didn't need to
- 31:38actually take them out.
- 31:41First of all, you see right here, nice
- 31:42insulated stainless steel 600 ml steam
- 31:46boiler. Then right here we have our
- 31:48brass brew group, the saturated group,
- 31:50which is right above the group head.
- 31:52Now, I have not been able to see what
- 31:56what cords are going to these um
- 31:58stainless steel heating elements that
- 32:00are in the new Lelit group head. Um so,
- 32:02I'm not quite sure. Maybe I'm just
- 32:05missing something cuz there's so much
- 32:06stuff going on here, but um
- 32:09I'm not sure where those would uh be.
- 32:11Normally, they're like cartridges. It's
- 32:13like for instance, on an E61 group when
- 32:14people like ACS puts heating cartridges
- 32:17into it, they drill into the back of the
- 32:19unit and they actually just put the
- 32:21cartridges inside. I'm not sure where
- 32:23these could be. Maybe they're under the
- 32:25front part of it or something, but
- 32:27regardless, um
- 32:29that's what we have. Now, just taking a
- 32:31look, all the hot water lines seem to be
- 32:33all made of PTFE, otherwise known as
- 32:35Teflon. So, with that, we have lots of
- 32:37brass fittings, which is nice to see all
- 32:39over the place, and then lots of
- 32:40stainless steel as well. And then we
- 32:42have copper, obviously, for the pressure
- 32:43transducer. There is some use of zip
- 32:46ties in here. I think there could be
- 32:47even more use to make it even more just
- 32:51you know, visually appealing. I'm a
- 32:54little bit of a stickler because I open
- 32:55so many machines. I'd like to be a bit
- 32:56more organized than the chaos that I'm
- 32:59kind of seeing right now. It's not
- 33:01Again, it's not terrible, but and
- 33:03there's enough room that it's not that
- 33:04big of a deal, but I would enjoy a
- 33:06little bit more a little bit more
- 33:09organization. But anyway, let's travel
- 33:11with the water. Let's see where the
- 33:12water goes in here, and then see what
- 33:14all the doohickeys and whatnot are. So,
- 33:17water starts right over here. So, down
- 33:19here is the pump. Water travels through
- 33:22this tube underneath where the water
- 33:23tank is sitting, through the tube into
- 33:25the pump, which is right there, which is
- 33:26the vibratory pump, different from their
- 33:28other ones.
- 33:29And then we go past it, and there is a
- 33:32relief right here that goes to the drip
- 33:33tray, all right? But there is a brass
- 33:36fitting here, which travels upwards when
- 33:38it's pressurized or heated water PTFE.
- 33:40So, that comes all the way up, and then
- 33:42we can keep following it right here into
- 33:44this T splitter, all right? So, this
- 33:45brass T splitter right here, it goes and
- 33:48enters the brew boiler right there. The
- 33:50other side of the T split continues with
- 33:52that PTFE down to another brass fitting,
- 33:55which is on a solenoid. Now, this
- 33:57solenoid feeds
- 33:59into the steam boiler. So, this is the
- 34:01entry point for the steam boiler. So,
- 34:03water goes, feeds the brew boiler, and
- 34:05then it continue going in order to fill
- 34:07up that steam boiler from the fresh
- 34:09water itself. Now, once it's in the
- 34:11steam boiler, only exit is out the top.
- 34:13There is no drainage point down below.
- 34:15Now, this is something I've been trying
- 34:16to make myself loud about for
- 34:18manufacturers, but please, please,
- 34:20please make an easy-to-access
- 34:23drainage point for boilers.
- 34:26Having to rely on pressure to to drain
- 34:28it, you're not going to get everything
- 34:29out. If we had an easy access point
- 34:30below to drain out our water, it's
- 34:33better for long-term storage. Now, in
- 34:34their manual, it does say if you're if
- 34:37you know, if you go more than a week
- 34:39without using it, they recommend doing a
- 34:41boiler flush. Well, it would be nice if
- 34:43it was also as easy to just drain the
- 34:45boiler itself as opposed to just
- 34:47replenishing it with fresh water. But
- 34:49anyway,
- 34:50so once the water is heated up and it's
- 34:52ready to be steam, well, first there is
- 34:54a release here that goes down to the
- 34:55drip tray with this silicon. But right
- 34:57here, it comes up
- 34:59and through this brass fitting here into
- 35:01PTFE. We follow that line into this
- 35:03brass fitting over to the steam wand.
- 35:06So, right here is where we open and
- 35:07close the valve and the steam wand goes
- 35:09down here and out through steam wand
- 35:11itself. So, that's what the steam boiler
- 35:13is doing. We have another release right
- 35:15here that also goes to the drip tray,
- 35:16which is actually well organized down
- 35:18below with little caps with a little
- 35:20Elite emblem on them, which is pretty
- 35:21neat to see. Anyway, let's go back to
- 35:23where water was entering and it enters
- 35:25into the brew boiler. Now, on the brew
- 35:27boiler, we see that we have thermal
- 35:28probe, we have different valves uh
- 35:30whatnot for safety purposes, but anyway,
- 35:32we get inside of here and then this is
- 35:34where we're releasing into the coffee
- 35:37itself. It goes straight from the boiler
- 35:39out of the group head. That's how we get
- 35:40our coffee.
- 35:42And also from the brew boiler, we should
- 35:43notice that there is another exit right
- 35:46here. So, we have an entryway for steam,
- 35:48which goes right here for the steam
- 35:50manifold, but what is this right here?
- 35:52This takes water from the brew boiler
- 35:54that's heated and it comes
- 35:58to the hot water spigot. There's
- 36:00multiple solenoids up here to control
- 36:02where when and where water is exiting,
- 36:04but the one for the back pressure right
- 36:05here, this is where we release it into
- 36:07the drip tray, but as you see here is
- 36:09where we've drilled in
- 36:10that pressure transducer. So, right here
- 36:13is where we're taking pressure and it
- 36:14reads and displays out on the manometer
- 36:16on the front. So, that is the main
- 36:19solenoid right there that's responsible
- 36:20for sucking out that pressure once the
- 36:22shot is done. Now, of course, we have
- 36:24other little things like two LED lights
- 36:26that are up here because you now have
- 36:27like those barista lights, which is
- 36:28nice, and some other little doohickeys
- 36:31and braided cords and whatnot for the
- 36:32different electronics. But, for the most
- 36:34part, it's relatively simple as far as
- 36:36its construction. It's not something
- 36:38that has as much internal electrics like
- 36:41the Lelit Bianca has. It's still
- 36:43maintaining that old-school vibe where
- 36:45it's a dual boiler with just buttons,
- 36:46but with a little bit extra thrown in in
- 36:48order to have the capabilities you do
- 36:50with the profiling and whatnot. But,
- 36:52anyway, that is largely what the insides
- 36:55look like. I think that's really enough
- 36:56to kind of go over to give you an idea
- 36:57of what it looks like inside.
- 36:59Um
- 37:01I think that Yeah, that's pretty much
- 37:02it. I mean, obviously, we have the
- 37:03wiring for the buttons. We have wiring
- 37:05for the LCC right there uh with the
- 37:08braided cord that goes down, uh which is
- 37:09a little bit of a weird
- 37:11situation, kind of wrapped around that
- 37:13steam manifold. But, anyway, that looks
- 37:16uh that looks good to me. So, let's uh
- 37:17conclude.
- 37:20We need to talk price, right? This one
- 37:22is at, I believe, 1699 euros, and right
- 37:25now in in England, it's 1599. Now,
- 37:27you'll notice that is another increase
- 37:29of price in a decent amount, about 25%
- 37:32from what the price was, which is around
- 37:34that 1299 marker.
- 37:36So,
- 37:37is it justified? Does that even make
- 37:39sense? Well, here's here's how I'm going
- 37:41to talk about price.
- 37:42Before this update, I made the argument
- 37:44that the Lelit Elizabeth was the best
- 37:47bang for your buck dual boiler. If you
- 37:49are someone that wants a dual boiler,
- 37:50I'm not saying it's better than these
- 37:52other machines that aren't in the same
- 37:53class. I'm saying the Breville Dual
- 37:55Boiler Dual Boiler. We're talking about
- 37:56the Rancilio Silvia Pro, Profitec Move,
- 37:59Breville Dual Boiler.
- 38:00A fun fact, about 5 years ago, right
- 38:03when I had started YouTube, I actually
- 38:05kind of made a concept machine with
- 38:07Breville that was showcased, one and
- 38:08done, at an expo, and on it, I had a
- 38:11gear pump put on there with flow control
- 38:14with a knob on the front. And also, I
- 38:15had the two buttons on the Breville Dual
- 38:17Boiler controlled to be a lever style
- 38:19shot and a turbo shot, which is
- 38:21essentially what they've done with this
- 38:22machine sans the gear pump on it. And
- 38:25so, before at that 12, 1300 dollar
- 38:28price, it was at the best and it was
- 38:31greatly
- 38:32wildly cheaper than the than the
- 38:33competitors. Profitec move being like
- 38:352200 and the Rancilio Silvia being like
- 38:382100 and then the Breville, I believe is
- 38:41about the same price depending on where
- 38:42you're at in the world. Australia
- 38:44obviously the Breville's much cheaper,
- 38:45but anyway, so
- 38:47now we have to take into account it's
- 38:50the where everything else is at and
- 38:52whether or not this is priced properly.
- 38:54With this 1699, it's probably going to
- 38:57be closer to 2000, 2100 in the US when
- 39:00it does release there if we can take
- 39:02trends of pricing to mean anything. With
- 39:04that in in mind, we're in a new price
- 39:06category and we're now very close to the
- 39:09Profitec move and to these others. That
- 39:11said, the Profitec move 2 is like 2200
- 39:14or so in Europe, which means in the
- 39:15states it'll probably be 2500 or 2550.
- 39:18So, that's in order to get some sort of
- 39:21fun capabilities, the price keeps going
- 39:23up more and more and more and more. So,
- 39:25when we're looking at dual boilers, I
- 39:27still think this is a competitive price.
- 39:30I'm not as mad about the price increase
- 39:31on this as I was about the Mara X. Not
- 39:33because I think they probably couldn't
- 39:35have they didn't have to do as big of a
- 39:37price increase, but it makes more sense.
- 39:39It's not just one little thing they've
- 39:40added. Not only did they add the switch,
- 39:42but they've now added percentage of
- 39:44what's going on. So, they had to do some
- 39:46extra work in order to showcase that.
- 39:48They've added the actual dimmer click on
- 39:50here so you can start and stop shots.
- 39:52They've added some extra software in
- 39:53order for that to work, but in addition
- 39:54to that, they also worked and made the
- 39:56pressure profiling capabilities inside
- 39:58of here. They also improved and changed
- 40:00the group head, which means they've got
- 40:01to do a different assembly for that
- 40:03group head. They also changed the boiler
- 40:05inside in order to make it a bit more
- 40:07efficient. Then the question comes,
- 40:09well, how does it compare to others in
- 40:11its price range? We've recently looked
- 40:13at the WPM Primus. That is about 1900
- 40:16euros and it's going to be like 24 or
- 40:172500 US dollars.
- 40:19And it has cool capabilities, but
- 40:22they're pressure profiling. If you
- 40:23recall, there is a flow profiling
- 40:25capability with the knob, but this can
- 40:27do the same thing. This one has two
- 40:28boilers as opposed to a boiler and a
- 40:30thermal block. So, you also have
- 40:32arguably more longevity because more
- 40:33people or can be stupid with a boiler
- 40:35and fix it than be stupid with a thermal
- 40:37block and fix it. Now then, of course,
- 40:39you have the more interesting
- 40:40comparison, which is this versus a
- 40:41Fellow Opus 1. In the US, it will
- 40:43definitely be cheaper than this. I would
- 40:45say by $500, probably. I'm not sure
- 40:47again what the price of this will be in
- 40:48the states, but the Fellow Opus 1 is
- 40:51also different. It has that boosted
- 40:52boiler flow-through heater type
- 40:53situation and a ton more more
- 40:55electronics inside. I still think the
- 40:57Fellow machine is absolutely incredible
- 40:59and I love it. And if I were to choose
- 41:00one just for coffee taste and what I can
- 41:03do with it and the speed at which it
- 41:05heats up, which is like 3 minutes, I'm
- 41:07probably choosing the Fellow,
- 41:10but
- 41:11that's based off in cup. If I were
- 41:14someone that was looking to buy one
- 41:15machine and lasting a long time, it
- 41:17becomes a much more difficult question
- 41:19because there's no proven track record
- 41:21for Fellow as far as longevity with the
- 41:23item, and there is proven with Elite,
- 41:26and it's a lot more understandable on
- 41:28the internals. I would buy what I have
- 41:30and what I use every day, which is
- 41:31Meticulous, but that's because I want
- 41:33something different out of my coffee
- 41:34than the majority of consumers. Majority
- 41:36of consumers want to have, if not
- 41:38mostly, an occasional cappuccino or
- 41:40milk-based beverage. I don't want that
- 41:42at all. I don't want just simple hit and
- 41:44go. I want to be able to play around and
- 41:47have essentially unlimited control over
- 41:49my espresso, and I want it
- 41:50piston-driven. I want lever style. But,
- 41:52that is not something most people want.
- 41:54Most want semi-automatics, and they want
- 41:55steaming. So, this makes fantastic
- 41:57coffee. It's 80 I I forgot to mention
- 41:59this, 80° to 100° in temperature, so you
- 42:01can do lower temperature shots. Uh you
- 42:03can do the really low pressure stuff.
- 42:04You can do manual. You can, you know,
- 42:06it's good. I'm very excited about this
- 42:09machine. I think this is, so far, out of
- 42:12all of the times uh manufacturers have
- 42:14listened to us. These types of videos
- 42:15where I talk about finally they've made
- 42:17these changes we've been asking for.
- 42:18This is the first time I truly feel like
- 42:20they kind of got it. This isn't even
- 42:21something that a lot of us were asking
- 42:23for. I mean, I guess I sort of did
- 42:25implicitly when I made that kind of
- 42:26concept Rebel some years ago, but it's
- 42:28wonderful. I was just expecting them to
- 42:30throw the paddle on there and upcharge
- 42:31400. This is the most exciting machine
- 42:35release that I've seen in some time as
- 42:37far as dual boilers go. You know, a lot
- 42:39of these others you might have some
- 42:41pre-infusion capability or soft infusion
- 42:42capability. You may have bigger and
- 42:44bigger boilers or you may have slightly
- 42:46more
- 42:47expensive interior
- 42:50fittings or something, but when all is
- 42:52said and done, as far as what's going to
- 42:54last a long time, this is going to last
- 42:56an incredibly long time. Heirloom type
- 42:57thing as long as you keep up with it and
- 42:59you replace things as they're needed
- 43:01because it's really easy to replace them
- 43:03and uh
- 43:04yeah, anyway.
- 43:07I'm I'm stoked. A lot of the updates
- 43:08Lelit has done I've not been a fan of
- 43:10and I've been very honest about it. This
- 43:11one, kudos to the team. This is This is
- 43:14really really really freaking nice and
- 43:16I'm stoked on it. Um
- 43:18anyway, I think that's it. We've done
- 43:20our comparisons with recent releases
- 43:22like the WPM Pro like the Fellow EKG,
- 43:23we've talked about it in comparison with
- 43:25the Profitec Pro 500 and Lelit Bianca
- 43:26Pro and the Gaggia Classic dual boiler.
- 43:29I think this has and not think, I know
- 43:31this has a lot more to offer at even a
- 43:34cheaper price point and I mean a lot
- 43:35more to offer. Like
- 43:37a ton more. If you If we're wanting just
- 43:40a hot water kettle hooked up to a pump
- 43:41in order to have boring nine bar old
- 43:43school espresso, cool.
- 43:45Get a whatever you want, but this is
- 43:47actually opening up a lot of doors for
- 43:49you to play around with with this flow
- 43:51flow control and with our pressure
- 43:53profiling. Again, I want to reiterate,
- 43:56flow profiling supreme, but
- 43:59it makes sense why they did this. It
- 44:00works with the ecosystem the way they've
- 44:02done the dimmer, all that stuff. Anyway,
- 44:04okay.
- 44:05I think that is enough. Uh 69 on Europe,
- 44:0859 on UK, to be determined in the US and
- 44:10elsewhere, but for now
- 44:15that's it.
- 44:17It's a freaking sick machine, and I'm
- 44:18actually stoked that they came through
- 44:20with something good.
- 44:22Mara was a fail, this one is not. Thank
- 44:24you so much for watching. Hope that you
- 44:25brew something tasty today, and cheers.
