I’ve changed almost everything about my life — Transcript

- 0:00I'm trying to get a visa for a country I
- 0:01don't even want to live in. Two years
- 0:03ago I quit my job, became a full-time
- 0:04cloud chaser, and moved into a very
- 0:06expensive white box. Now I know what
- 0:08you're thinking. Why on earth would you
- 0:09want to leave when you live in a premium
- 0:11grade existential [music] container with
- 0:13a piano and recently removed black mold?
- 0:15The answer is simple. I'm catfished by
- 0:17my own optimism. Every few years I
- 0:19convince myself [music] another place is
- 0:21the answer. Leaving the village, leaving
- 0:23uni, moving to Brighton, moving to
- 0:24London. I keep falling for my own sales
- 0:27pitch and I've worked in sales. I know
- 0:29I'm chatting At what point does
- 0:30reinvention stop becoming exciting and
- 0:32stop becoming avoidance? Every year I'm
- 0:34convinced that happiness is hiding in a
- 0:36new postcode or a new job or a new
- 0:38hobby. I've done law, finance,
- 0:40bodybuilding, sales, social media. If
- 0:42reinvention [music] burned calories, I'd
- 0:43have disintegrated by now. I thought a
- 0:45relationship might solve the problem.
- 0:47Then I got into one and realized the
- 0:48problem is me. No matter where you go,
- 0:50there you are. Mistaking novelty for
- 0:52personal growth is like rearranging
- 0:54furniture in a house [music] that's on
- 0:55fire. Perhaps peace isn't something you
- 0:57move towards, it's something you stop
- 0:58moving away from. Because [music] no
- 1:00matter how many times you change the
- 1:01scenery, your inner monologue still gets
- 1:03a vote. Winning.
