I used Apple Watch SE3 as my ONLY device for 3 Days — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00For the next 3 days, I'm ditching my
- 0:02shiny orange phone and using this little
- 0:04cutie, the Apple Watch SE3, as my only
- 0:07cellular device. I'm sure nothing will
- 0:10go wrong. Hey, Siri. Hey, Siri. Hey,
- 0:13[music] Siri. Goodness gracious. I've
- 0:15done this kind of a thing before, but
- 0:16it's genuinely nerve-wracking every
- 0:18time. Wake up. Wake up.
- 0:21Nice. It now has me going to a hospital
- 0:24parking lot, so that's good. This video
- 0:27is sponsored by Nota.
- 0:30How about a quick unboxing to get this
- 0:32experiment started? This is the SE3 40mm
- 0:36in what's the color? In midnight
- 0:38aluminum.
- 0:40Ooh, it's tiny. I'm used to the Ultra,
- 0:43too. Wow. I actually really like the
- 0:45color.
- 0:46Setup on the watches is always really
- 0:48easy, except for cellular activation.
- 0:51[music] Oh my gosh, you're freaking
- 0:52kidding me. But I have a plan for that.
- 0:57It's a big big day, folks. We are taking
- 1:00this Apple Watch to Verizon to get it
- 1:02activated with cellular. Long story
- 1:04short, I tried to do this through the
- 1:06Apple Watch app on my iPhone. Whenever I
- 1:09do that, it's like a struggle every
- 1:11time. It's super buggy. I'm going to go
- 1:12do it in person and hopefully it'll be
- 1:14easy. Also, I want to ask Verizon if
- 1:16they are raising the prices for monthly
- 1:19cellular plans for Apple Watches in the
- 1:21United States. Do you see my watch?
- 1:25All right, let's go to Verizon. And I
- 1:27did record my conversation with them and
- 1:29learned something surprising about the
- 1:31cellular updates on the Apple Watches.
- 1:33How's your morning been?
- 1:34>> It's been all right.
- 1:35>> Yeah.
- 1:36>> Um, but you're actually getting a
- 1:37discount. Instead of being 15, it'll be
- 1:38a total of $10.89. That will be with
- 1:41everything. Yeah.
- 1:41>> Nice.
- 1:42>> Okay, cool.
- 1:43>> I'm so surprised actually. I thought the
- 1:44cellular was going to be like $21 to $30
- 1:47a month. It's going to be $10.89 here in
- 1:50the US. I don't get the 5G ultra band,
- 1:52but honestly, I didn't go with that cuz
- 1:54I have that on my phone and my Verizon
- 1:56service is kind of crappy where I live
- 1:57anyway. So, I was like, I'm not going to
- 1:59pay extra for probably the same quality
- 2:01of service. So, now I got to get rid of
- 2:03my phone somehow. But first, I actually
- 2:05need to set myself up for success.
- 2:07Believe it or not, I actually do ditch
- 2:09my cellular device when I do these Apple
- 2:12Watch experiments because makes it more
- 2:13fun for me. I got all my cards set up
- 2:16with Apple Pay. Made sure location
- 2:17services were dialed in for GPS. And if
- 2:20you're going to do an experiment like
- 2:21this [music] without your phone, please
- 2:23prioritize your safety. It's a good idea
- 2:26to let your loved ones know just in case
- 2:28your watch dies or something. You don't
- 2:29want them having a panic attack or
- 2:31wondering where the heck you are. Now,
- 2:33let's test out a quick phone call.
- 2:35>> Let the weak.
- 2:38>> Get that mixed up.
- 2:39>> That's Latterday Saint.
- 2:41>> The call quality is amazing. I do wish
- 2:43the volume of this watch's speaker would
- 2:45get a little bit louder, but it's
- 2:47manageable.
- 2:47>> All right, ladies and gentlemen, my wife
- 2:49has agreed to take my phone and hide it
- 2:52from me.
- 2:59This is all we got. Now, we're
- 3:01officially phoneless. This feeling is
- 3:03always a bit strange. So, I'm going to
- 3:05chill out tonight with some YouTube and
- 3:07dinner and test out my watch as my Apple
- 3:09TV remote. Then we'll charge it up for
- 3:11day one's adventures.
- 3:15[music]
- 3:20I don't usually wake up this early. I
- 3:22had my [music] alarm set for 7 a.m. It's
- 3:245:30. We're at 100% Apple Watch battery.
- 3:27So, I guess today will be a longevity
- 3:29battery test. [music] I'm going to start
- 3:30my day doing my Bible reading devotion
- 3:33session. And I guess I'll get some chill
- 3:35time to myself. And today is actually me
- 3:37and Lauren's third [music] anniversary.
- 3:39What do girls like these days? In
- 3:42Instagram reels. I'll get her an
- 3:44Instagram reel. Okay. [music]
- 3:51[music]
- 3:55>> Body cone head.
- 3:56>> One of my favorite parts of my morning
- 3:58routine is still reading my daily list
- 4:00of like my confessionals over my life
- 4:03and my family's lives and stuff. Um, so
- 4:05I have a reminder set every day that
- 4:07comes up in the morning. and it just
- 4:08reminds me to like read [music] that
- 4:10truth out loud to myself. That's what
- 4:11I'm going to do. And it's nice cuz it
- 4:13just pops up on my watch. I use the
- 4:15reminders app every single day. It
- 4:17really is super handy. But one thing
- 4:19that's going to be tough for me in this
- 4:20experiment is pooping with no phone.
- 4:27[music]
- 4:30Hey Siri.
- 4:32Hey Siri. Hey Siri.
- 4:36Goodness gracious. Start an outdoor walk
- 4:39workout. Let's go, girls. [music] Best
- 4:41part of the day so far is definitely
- 4:43like not even having the chance to doom
- 4:45scroll. Like I might not have gone on a
- 4:47walk with the girls this morning, so
- 4:49it's really cool just like don't even
- 4:51have the option. Just hanging with the
- 4:53ladies now. Today was pretty dang easy,
- 4:56[music] but I didn't try anything that
- 4:57crazy yet. So I had some admin stuff to
- 5:00do, a phone call or two, but overall it
- 5:02was totally survivable without my phone.
- 5:04>> [music]
- 5:04>> We are ending this day with 12% battery
- 5:08and I started the day pretty dang early.
- 5:10So, it can survive an entire day, but
- 5:12I'm really tired. So, I'm going to lay
- 5:14down and get ready for the next day.
- 5:19[music]
- 5:21All right, son. I'm about to go to
- 5:23Indianapolis with only my watch as my
- 5:26GPS. If I don't come home, you're in
- 5:29charge now.
- 5:30>> Hey,
- 5:30>> navigate to Robert's camera in
- 5:32Indianapolis. Get in directions to
- 5:34Robert's camera.
- 5:35>> I've done this kind of a thing before,
- 5:36but it's genuinely nerve-wracking every
- 5:38time not actually having a phone, but
- 5:41the disconnection has been amazing. A
- 5:44feature I would love to see Apple add to
- 5:46the watches [music] is the ability to
- 5:49play Bluetooth music to your car. I
- 5:52don't have a vehicle that has that as an
- 5:54option, but for everybody else out
- 5:55there, I feel like that would be kind of
- 5:57cool. If you want to go on a road trip
- 5:58with just your [music] watch, the
- 6:00ability to just stream music to a
- 6:01Bluetooth player would be so sick. Well,
- 6:04here we go. Let's hope GPS works [music]
- 6:06and the battery life can survive about 2
- 6:09hours total of driving. Shouldn't be a
- 6:11problem, right? Beware. If you miss an
- 6:13exit on this thing, it might just throw
- 6:16the whole system haywire. Wake up. Wake
- 6:18up. Basically, it took forever to load
- 6:20to get me the right directions. So, if
- 6:22you're going to use this for maps, it's
- 6:24not the best experience. Honestly, I
- 6:26knew I could get to my destination on my
- 6:28own, but it was genuinely frustrating
- 6:30being misled by Apple Maps so many
- 6:32times.
- 6:33>> Come on, baby. Come on.
- 6:34>> Load, please. Load, please. [laughter]
- 6:36Gosh, it now has me going to a hospital
- 6:39parking lot. So, that's good. Cyber
- 6:42truck. Very cool car. One thing I have
- 6:45noticed on this trip, since I don't have
- 6:47any music or anything to distract me,
- 6:49I'm alone with my thoughts. And I'm
- 6:51realizing I'm much happier without my
- 6:55phone. I just feel happier this week
- 6:57being disconnected. Honestly, we
- 6:59freaking made it, folks.
- 7:01>> I snagged what [music] I came for. Now,
- 7:03let's test out Apple Pay.
- 7:06As expected, it worked just fine,
- 7:08[music] and I made it home with a little
- 7:10bit of battery life to spare.
- 7:12>> [music]
- 7:17>> All right, let's go to the gym. But
- 7:18first, this video is sponsored by Nota,
- 7:21one of those rare companies actually
- 7:23making useful AI tools instead of
- 7:25gimmicks. They sent me this, the Nota
- 7:27Memo AI voice recorder. It's freaking
- 7:29awesome. This little thing is so
- 7:31powerful for how tiny it is. Basically,
- 7:33you just charge it up, slide it into
- 7:35this MagSafe wallet on the back of your
- 7:37phone, and you're good to go. What does
- 7:39it do? Well, it records in-person
- 7:41meetings or it syncs with your phone and
- 7:43records phone calls or phone meetings
- 7:45and then it automatically syncs to the
- 7:47not app. And from there, it gives you a
- 7:49detailed summary of everything you
- 7:50talked about in those calls or meetings.
- 7:53More than that, it gives you clean, easy
- 7:54to read notes and key takeaways from the
- 7:56conversation, so you can actually just
- 7:58be present in the moment. So, if you
- 8:00want to add something to your toolkit
- 8:01that actually helps you stay present
- 8:03while keeping track of important
- 8:04details, check out the NOA Memo AI voice
- 8:07recorder and live your life with tech
- 8:10more intentionally. Click that top link
- 8:12in the description. And thanks to Nota
- 8:13for sponsoring today's video. Now, back
- 8:15to it. I do want to play a little bit of
- 8:17basketball and then do some
- 8:19weightlifting to see how this thing
- 8:21tracks. If I make this, dude, you have
- 8:24to unsubscribe.
- 8:29Lol. Guess you're subbed for life.
- 8:31Freaking gotcha. Usually when I play
- 8:33basketball, I'm kind of worried about
- 8:35missing important texts or calls from my
- 8:37wife or loved ones. But [music] having
- 8:39this little watch on me allows me the
- 8:41peace of mind of practicing one of my
- 8:43favorite hobbies in the world while
- 8:45still being reachable to my loved ones.
- 8:47Plus, I get the convenience of having
- 8:49the fitness app and timers to stay on
- 8:52track.
- 8:53Otherwise, I'll be in here for hours
- 8:55procrastinating my work. Right away, I'm
- 8:58noticing just playing basketball, this
- 8:59thing is so small that it's actually way
- 9:01more comfortable than the watch I
- 9:03usually wear, which is the Ultra 2.
- 9:05Obviously, the Ultra 2 has its own
- 9:06benefits. The battery life's amazing and
- 9:08stuff, but having something this small
- 9:10for like sports that require your hands
- 9:13a lot is very nice. It doesn't feel like
- 9:15it's weighing me down. And something as
- 9:17simple as the workout app keeps me on
- 9:19track when lifting and helps me rest for
- 9:21the right amount of time between lifts.
- 9:23Plus, I don't have the option to doom
- 9:25scroll while working out. So, I'm just
- 9:27using my time more intentionally and
- 9:29getting my stuff done so I can get back
- 9:31to what else is important to me, my
- 9:33family and my work. Well, it's
- 9:35officially the end of the watch
- 9:36experimentations. So, it's time to get
- 9:39my telephone back.
- 9:42So, usually for these videos, I do a
- 9:44full 7day experiment, but I wanted to
- 9:46try out just 3 days. So, [music] let me
- 9:48know which format you prefer. But I
- 9:51still do feel like this experiment gave
- 9:52[music] me a great overview of the SE3
- 9:55watch. Now, obviously, the battery life
- 9:57kind of sucks, but that [music] was
- 9:59expected. Yes, you can get a full day
- 10:00out of it, which is nice, but I really
- 10:03feel like Apple could increase their
- 10:04battery capacity, but who knows? For me,
- 10:07the size is too small, and it makes the
- 10:10watch kind of difficult to navigate
- 10:12compared to the bigger ones, but the
- 10:14weight is an amazing trade-off, which
- 10:16[music] makes me wish the Ultra watches
- 10:18were half their weight. So, it all
- 10:20depends on what you prefer. Either a big
- 10:22old display and better battery life or
- 10:24less weight and size on your wrist so
- 10:26you can focus on what you're doing. And
- 10:28then there's also the middle ground, the
- 10:29Series 11, which I will be testing as
- 10:31well. So, get subbed for that. But if
- 10:33you're hoping to waste less time on your
- 10:35phone and live a life with more
- 10:37intention, [music] I would say give
- 10:39Apple Watch cellular a try. You can
- 10:41always cancel your plan if it doesn't
- 10:42fit in your lifestyle. [music] So, text
- 10:44me when you get home so I know you're
- 10:45safe and let me know what tech I should
- 10:47try out next. Support me on Patreon to
- 10:49help feed my family and get your name on
- 10:51screen over here. Follow me on Instagram
- 10:53for short and dumb stuff like this. And
- 10:55remember that you are much more loved
- 10:57[music] and more beautiful than you
- 10:59might even know. God bless you guys.
- 11:01We'll see you in the next video. Bye.
