I Tested the New Claude AI Plugin for Premiere Pro (Is It Worth It?) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00So, I've been told that this free clawed
- 0:02AI plugin for Premiere can take your raw
- 0:05footage and cut it down to a rough cut
- 0:08in minutes. I know what you're thinking.
- 0:10This sounds a little too good to be
- 0:12true. And that's why me and my editor
- 0:14are going to test it out to let you know
- 0:16if it's worth your time. If you're
- 0:19ready, let's jump on in.
- 0:23My biggest resistance to AI auto cutting
- 0:26tools is that out of all of the ones
- 0:28that I've tested, none of them have
- 0:31realistic pacing to the cuts. I always
- 0:34have to go in and fix a few things,
- 0:36[music] which takes more work. So, when
- 0:39AutoEedit reached out for me to review
- 0:42their content creator plugin powered by
- 0:44Claude AI, I was a little resistant at
- 0:48first because of my experience, but I
- 0:50was also intrigued because I've heard
- 0:53great things about Claude inside of
- 0:56Premiere. So, I thought, you know, all
- 0:58my friends are saying I need to try
- 0:59Claude. Let's give it a go. After you
- 1:02install the extension in Premiere, go up
- 1:04to window and under extensions, the
- 1:07plugin is called AutoEedit Creator Mode.
- 1:10Open it up and you'll get this window
- 1:12that works like any other plugin in
- 1:14Premiere. There are plenty of tools we
- 1:16can use on Autoedit, but the main
- 1:18feature is right on top, the Claude
- 1:21Creator mode, which will turn any raw
- 1:23talking head footage into an assembled
- 1:26rough cut. Here I have this raw footage
- 1:28in the timeline from my recent video
- 1:30about improving bad footage. But before
- 1:32we create the rough cut, you might
- 1:34notice this free forever tools tab. It's
- 1:37important to note that AutoEedit is free
- 1:39to download and use. Plus, it comes with
- 1:42free templates and presets that you can
- 1:44use forever. You can download and try it
- 1:47out yourself totally free using my link
- 1:49below. Now, you might be like, "Well,
- 1:51what's inside of this free account?"
- 1:54Well, you'll have access to five free
- 1:56tools with a six coming soon as you can
- 1:59see here. And these tools will let us do
- 2:01things like instantly copy and paste an
- 2:03image into Premiere, add popular sound
- 2:06effects and motion graphics presets to
- 2:09your timeline, and remove silences,
- 2:12which is what I will use now. It's great
- 2:14to use this free silence cutter first to
- 2:17shorten our video. This will save us
- 2:19some credits later because the longer
- 2:20the footage is, the more credits we will
- 2:23need to create a rough cut. And for
- 2:26pricing context, with their $10 plan, AI
- 2:29can edit up to 45 minutes worth of
- 2:31footage per month. So depending on how
- 2:33long your videos are, this can give you
- 2:35a lot of videos or just a couple. For
- 2:38example, each of my videos that I record
- 2:41are about up to 60 minutes each of raw
- 2:45footage. So, I wouldn't even be able to
- 2:47do one video with that plan, but they
- 2:49have other plans that give you, of
- 2:50course, more minutes to work with. And
- 2:52if you like, you can use code Premier
- 2:54Gal 111 PR Gal 11 to get 11% off your
- 2:58first month or 25% off your first year.
- 3:01Now, let's pick the Claude creator mode.
- 3:05And here, we can tell Claude how to
- 3:08edit. There are some presets we can pick
- 3:10like cut filler words and pauses or only
- 3:14keep last takes which would work well
- 3:17for this footage since I like to repeat
- 3:20my lines. I usually like to get one
- 3:22single long great take. I don't know.
- 3:25It's just the the inner editor in me is
- 3:27like I don't want to jump cut, you know?
- 3:29So, I really like that they kept only
- 3:32keep last takes because honestly, you
- 3:35can tell that it was built by a real
- 3:37creator who probably does things like
- 3:39me, which is repeat lines until it's
- 3:42perfect. So, let's just write what we
- 3:44want into this box. It's also good to
- 3:47write what the video is about so Claude
- 3:50can better understand what to keep and
- 3:52remove things that are off topic. Just
- 3:55below this box is an important note
- 3:57since the AI will have to listen to
- 3:59what's being said and make editing
- 4:01decisions from that. Any footage that
- 4:03doesn't include talking won't really
- 4:05work. So, keep that in mind. Below, we
- 4:07can choose to create a rough cut from
- 4:09the whole sequence or just the in andout
- 4:12points. Since I only have one video in
- 4:14my timeline, I can just stick with full
- 4:16sequence. Below that, we can pick a
- 4:18template that fits our video and the
- 4:21style that we want. I think tutorial and
- 4:23educational fit pretty well obviously.
- 4:26So now we can finally press edit rough
- 4:30cut. This can take a couple of minutes
- 4:32depending on how long your footage is.
- 4:36And look, it's done. So that just took
- 4:39about 70 seconds, just a little over 1
- 4:42minute for a 5minute video. I also tried
- 4:44creating a rough cut from a 15minute
- 4:47clip and that took about 5 minutes. So,
- 4:50it really depends on how long your
- 4:52footage is. Now that it's done, up here,
- 4:55we can see the amount of segments and
- 4:57time that got removed from the raw
- 4:59footage. Although nothing is actually
- 5:01removed yet, in the plugin, we can jump
- 5:03to all the cut points and listen to them
- 5:06first. I love the fact that the plugin
- 5:09just disables the parts that will be cut
- 5:11out, so we can easily reenable and
- 5:14listen to what will be removed before
- 5:17committing to that decision. For
- 5:19example, if a camera person films at a
- 5:22higher frame rate with [clears throat] a
- 5:23higher shutter speed. For example, if a
- 5:25camera person is filming with a higher
- 5:27shutter speed, after listening to some
- 5:28parts that AutoEedit decided to remove,
- 5:31I have to say it did a pretty good job
- 5:33at finding the good takes and putting
- 5:36everything together. For example, this
- 5:39part where I'm just hyping myself up and
- 5:41being a little goofy. Okay, I think that
- 5:43was pretty solid. It's clearly not part
- 5:46of the video and is rightfully marked as
- 5:50cut, like it should be cut, correct? Or
- 5:53for repeating lines, it did a pretty
- 5:55good job at picking a good take. Here
- 5:57are the takes it removed versus what it
- 6:00kept. Although it might not work that
- 6:01well if the footage has some intense
- 6:03movements, although it might not work
- 6:05that well if the footage has some
- 6:07intense movements. The the plugin is the
- 6:10go-to. This plugin is the go-to when it
- 6:12comes to fixing these issues for any
- 6:14parts that we want to change from keep
- 6:15to cut or cut to keep. All right, we can
- 6:18press the button at the end of the line
- 6:21here. Overall though, it can help you
- 6:23spend less time doing the boring work.
- 6:25For example, if you would edit manually
- 6:2830 minutes of raw talking head footage,
- 6:31that can take you anywhere from 45 to 90
- 6:34minutes because you have to watch it
- 6:35back, pause, cut, remove that part, or
- 6:38just label it and keep going through.
- 6:40But with the help of Claude here, you
- 6:42can basically cut that down to about 15
- 6:45to 20 minutes because of course you
- 6:46still have to review what Claude did. So
- 6:49you can get a rough cut faster. It's not
- 6:51editing the whole video for you. It's
- 6:53just getting out the bad part so you can
- 6:56get on to the creative part faster. One
- 6:58feature I did wish it had was the
- 7:00ability to separate lines. For example,
- 7:03this part where I redo a line, use the
- 7:05slip tool to slide it one more frame to
- 7:08the same direction. one more frame in
- 7:11the same direction. Sadly, the plugin
- 7:13didn't catch that and combined the whole
- 7:16thing into one line, and I can't
- 7:18separate this line to cut that short
- 7:20portion out. So, clearly, this feature
- 7:23is still not perfect. But for a rough
- 7:26cut, this is already a timesaver. And
- 7:29for parts like this where I know I will
- 7:31have to remove later, I can just make a
- 7:34cut manually and give it another color
- 7:36label like yellow so I can come back and
- 7:39remove it later. Back inside the plugin
- 7:42once we're happy with all the decisions.
- 7:45Come down here and press apply all. And
- 7:48as you can see, the timeline just tidies
- 7:50itself up and all the unwanted segments
- 7:53are removed. Pretty awesome. And for
- 7:55parts where I labeled it yellow, we can
- 7:57select them all and press ripple delete
- 7:59to get rid of them. Ripple delete is one
- 8:01of my favorite shortcuts. Before I give
- 8:03you my reflective thoughts on this
- 8:05plugin, let's test out a few more tools
- 8:07inside of this plugin. First, we have
- 8:09the captions tool to automatically add
- 8:11animating captions. We can pick a style
- 8:13from these presets. And right now,
- 8:15unfortunately, many of the previews for
- 8:17these presets don't really show up. So,
- 8:20I hope that they fix that soon. But
- 8:22right now, we can pick one. We can make
- 8:25our own adjustments down here, like
- 8:27changing the font and color. And once
- 8:29I'm happy with how it looks, I can hit
- 8:31generate to apply the captions to the
- 8:34timeline and see the result. For
- 8:36example, if a camera person is filming
- 8:38with a higher shutter speed in the
- 8:40plugin, we can also make edits to the
- 8:41captions. The edits made here won't be
- 8:44shown in real time in Premiere's program
- 8:46window, though. Then hit generate again
- 8:48to apply the changes, and all the
- 8:50captions will be replaced with the
- 8:52edited one. Personally, I feel like the
- 8:54captioning feature that they've included
- 8:56here isn't that intuitive, but it's good
- 8:59for, you know, quick results, and I'm
- 9:01glad that they're developing it
- 9:03alongside their other tools, right? So,
- 9:06this is why we're here reviewing it.
- 9:07Hopefully, it gets better. And then
- 9:09there's a brand new chat edit mode. Now,
- 9:11this mode can also let you create a
- 9:14rough cut, but instead of giving it one
- 9:16instruction, you can chat with it
- 9:18further. So, let's see how well it does.
- 9:21Here we can start by asking it to make a
- 9:23rough cut and explain what the video is
- 9:26about just like we did in Claude Creator
- 9:28mode. But unlike that mode, we are given
- 9:30a list of lines from the video with
- 9:32everything set to keep. Of course, we
- 9:35can manually pick which line to cut. But
- 9:38to have AI do it for you, we'll have to
- 9:40type the instructions down in the chat
- 9:42box again. And then we'll get a list of
- 9:45suggested cuts. We can click on each of
- 9:48them to jump to that part in the
- 9:50timeline and review it or just press
- 9:53accept selected down here. The plugin
- 9:56will then make a cut in the timeline and
- 9:58disable all the parts that we decided to
- 10:01cut. I'm not sure why we can't just get
- 10:04to the result after the first prompt cuz
- 10:06right now the process feels like a
- 10:08roundabout way of doing what we can
- 10:10already do with Claude creator mode.
- 10:13Although there is some potential here
- 10:15with this chat mode because we can give
- 10:17it further instructions to refine the
- 10:19rough cut before applying the cuts
- 10:21permanently. Like we can ask it to
- 10:24tighten up the edit even more and it
- 10:26will give us a preview of some of the
- 10:27extra pauses and filler words it found
- 10:30for us to remove. But for some reason
- 10:32the long stretches of silence are being
- 10:35missed. So it's pretty clear that this
- 10:37chat edit mode is still new. But it's
- 10:39definitely something to keep an eye on.
- 10:41So, after trying out the autoedit plugin
- 10:43and the Claude creator mode feature to
- 10:46edit a rough cut, here's my honest
- 10:48opinion. Although, I have been pretty
- 10:51honest throughout this video. Let's be
- 10:52real here. A tool that can analyze your
- 10:55talking head and make a rough cut from
- 10:57it is nothing new. And having it work
- 10:59seamlessly directly inside of Premiere
- 11:01is a helpful starting point. Although
- 11:03it's not perfect, we as editors still
- 11:05have to go through the rough cut
- 11:08manually to clean up some of the cut
- 11:10points and remove some repeated lines
- 11:12that were kept in. And that makes sense,
- 11:15right? We should do that because if we
- 11:17just press a button to create a rough
- 11:19cut and never watch it again, is that
- 11:22even considered a rough cut? As an
- 11:24editor, we need to know our footage. We
- 11:27need to know the story that we are
- 11:29crafting, right? So, you still need to
- 11:32review it in order to make those
- 11:34creative decisions, which ends up being
- 11:37your final cut. This tool is just
- 11:39helping you do what is considered the
- 11:42chores of editing, right? Cutting out
- 11:45the pauses, making it tighter, and then
- 11:47you go in and you do the fine cutting
- 11:50after. And it's important to note that
- 11:51we are not rushing the creative process,
- 11:54but we have deadlines and lots of
- 11:56editing projects all the time. So, even
- 11:58saving 30 minutes here or there will
- 12:00definitely help. However, since this
- 12:02plugin only works with footage that has
- 12:06talking in it, dialogue, it won't work
- 12:08for every type of project. So, if you
- 12:10edit a podcast, an explainer video, or
- 12:13any footage that has talking for that
- 12:15matter, you can give it a try to see how
- 12:18it works in your workflow. You can click
- 12:20my autoedit link down below in the
- 12:22description box to try it out for free.
- 12:24And as for the paid features, if you
- 12:26want to try those out, there is a free
- 12:28trial. And what's great about this is
- 12:30you don't have to enter a credit card.
- 12:32So, thank you AutoEedit for that. So,
- 12:34let me know in the comments what you
- 12:36think about this plugin. Is this
- 12:37something that you would use? [music]
- 12:39It's important as a community for you
- 12:42guys to leave comments cuz it helps
- 12:43inform the innovation. And remember that
- 12:45you can use my promo code if you want to
- 12:47explore beyond the free features as
- 12:49always. And if you want to check out
- 12:51more reviews on this channel or
- 12:52tutorials on how to do certain editing
- 12:54effects, you can click right over here.
- 12:56That's all for this video. Thanks so
- 12:58much for watching and as always, keep
- 13:00creating better video with Gal. See you
- 13:03next time. Bye.
