- 0:00four Teslas behind me and choosing the
- 0:02wrong one could cost you up to $20,000.
- 0:07The cheapest one keeps most of Tesla's
- 0:09technology, but Tesla removed more than
- 0:11you might realize.
- 0:13What the hell?
- 0:14>> This is the version most people assume
- 0:15is the smart choice.
- 0:19And this one that performance reaches 0
- 0:22to 60 in 3.3 seconds. Holy. And then we
- 0:27have the big bera of the group, the
- 0:29Tesla Model Y L. It's seat six. It's
- 0:33perfect for families. So today I'm
- 0:35testing every difference that actually
- 0:36matters. Space, comfort, range, and
- 0:40charging, driving, and of course, value.
- 0:44Let's start with the cheap one. The
- 0:46Model Y standard starts at around
- 0:48$40,000.
- 0:50Rear wheel drive gives you 321 miles in
- 0:52the standard. Now, if you want the most
- 0:54unique Tesla
- 0:57standard all the way, for some weird
- 0:58reason, you don't get a daytime running
- 1:00light bar. Look, no daytime running
- 1:02light bar. You get daytime running
- 1:04lights right here, baby. A projector
- 1:07headlight, but it doesn't have matrix
- 1:09LEDs, which means it's not adaptive high
- 1:12beams, less visibility, but not a deal
- 1:14breaker. High beams are still really
- 1:16good. Light output is still very, very
- 1:18good. You do get [music] a front-facing
- 1:20camera over there and air vents as well
- 1:23that close and open for more efficiency.
- 1:25You still have windshield cameras, two
- 1:27of them. And if you come over here, side
- 1:30repeater camera right there, pillar
- 1:32camera right here. And in the back,
- 1:34another camera. The difference, no light
- 1:37bar or anything. You just have lights on
- 1:39the outside. Where's the yellow? I don't
- 1:41see any yellow. The reverse lights for
- 1:43the Model Y standard is integrated here.
- 1:45Another difference between the Model Y
- 1:47standard versus all the other Teslas is
- 1:49that you don't have a motor in the
- 1:51mirror. So, it does not automatically
- 1:52fold. You have to manually fold it. So,
- 1:54that could be annoying if you're parking
- 1:55in a tight garage in and out every
- 1:57single day compared to this one where it
- 1:59automatically folds. And then we come to
- 2:01the other versions. Can you even tell
- 2:03the difference between the models from
- 2:05the front? The Model Y premium starts at
- 2:07$45,990
- 2:10with 357 mi in the rearwheel drive. But
- 2:13for an extra $4,000, you can get
- 2:15all-wheel drive, but the range drops to
- 2:18327 [music]
- 2:19miles. Daytime running light bar here,
- 2:21turn signal indicators here, matrix LEDs
- 2:24down here. You still get that
- 2:26front-facing [music]
- 2:26camera.
- 2:28In the performance, we could see this
- 2:30new black piece they added. You [music]
- 2:32also have a new diffuser down here. And
- 2:35the crazy thing is every single model
- 2:37has the same amount of cameras for the
- 2:39self-driving as the cheapest version,
- 2:41which is the [music] standard. Same
- 2:42cameras in the windshield, same cameras
- 2:43on the side repeater. The back,
- 2:45everything is the same. Now, here's
- 2:47where we get some of the differences.
- 2:48Model Y premiums, no spoiler, you do
- 2:51have a nice LED diffused bar that comes
- 2:54down here. It looks super cool at night
- 2:56because it shines light all the way down
- 2:58to the floor. Turn signals indicated
- 3:00here as well that are yellow. We come to
- 3:03the performance, which cost $57,990,
- 3:07but you have less miles at 306. They
- 3:10added a carbon fiber spoiler here. You
- 3:12also have a rear diffuser. It just makes
- 3:14it a little bit more aggressive. In the
- 3:16Model Y L's, currently the only version
- 3:18is the launch edition, $61,990
- 3:22with 328 mi. But once the launch version
- 3:26is done, it'll probably be a little
- 3:27cheaper. This allnew gloss black
- 3:31spoiler. It goes from here and it goes
- 3:33all the way across from here. Better
- 3:35efficiency, better aerodynamics compared
- 3:37to the Model Y performance. It just kind
- 3:38of stops right here. The Y L is also 7
- 3:41in longer than the rest of the Model
- 3:43Y's. This allows for more interior space
- 3:45because it's an actual sixseater. Now,
- 3:48here is the differences that we're going
- 3:50to see with the Model Y L. One thing
- 3:52that Tesla does good at now is they put
- 3:54metallic tint, top roof metallic tint.
- 3:57So, when you look at it, it looks like a
- 3:58mirror. It's supposed to help reject
- 4:00heat. It's on that one. It's on this
- 4:02one. It's on that one over there. Not on
- 4:04the standards, though. Take a look up
- 4:05here. I don't see any metallic tint
- 4:07here, but it is a glass roof. Why would
- 4:10they do that, you say? Because if you
- 4:13look inside of here,
- 4:16where is the glass roof? Where is it? No
- 4:19glass to look out of in the Model Y
- 4:21standard. They covered it up. Now, I
- 4:22talked to Tesla a long time ago. They
- 4:24say it's because production wise, it's
- 4:25easier to produce the glass roof on the
- 4:27top. But does it actually matter? Does
- 4:30it actually keep the car cooler? So, off
- 4:32camera, I installed these temperature
- 4:35sensor. Right now, it's around 80°. And
- 4:37we're going to see later on which car
- 4:39gets hottest the fastest because you
- 4:41would think the glass roof and there's
- 4:43nothing on there should be cooler, but
- 4:45the model has metallic tint all over the
- 4:47car. So, I'm curious to see which one is
- 4:49actually cooler. But now we talk about
- 4:52paint colors. The model comes in a new
- 4:54paint color only available to the Model
- 4:56Y, cosmic silver, which is nice. I like
- 5:00the look of it. Moving on here, this is
- 5:02the quicksilver paint as well as
- 5:04premiums. Both get the quicks. One thing
- 5:06that they have now that they didn't have
- 5:08before is the allnew frost blue baby
- 5:12girl, but only available in the Model Y
- 5:14performance. Over on the premiums, you
- 5:16get all the general colors. You get
- 5:18white, they have a new blue as well,
- 5:20black, quicks, and this nice deep red
- 5:22color. In the Model Y standards, in the
- 5:24US at least, they have three colors:
- 5:26white, black, and gray. diamond black
- 5:29specks of gold in there. I think the
- 5:31black color looks awesome. And don't
- 5:33forget, Tesla does sell a free color, so
- 5:35you can get any of these cars in gray
- 5:38for free. Now, inside is where Tesla
- 5:41really saved money on the Model Y
- 5:44standard. However, at first, I thought
- 5:46it was a bad thing, but it might
- 5:48actually be a good thing. And if you
- 5:50didn't realize, it's sunny and hot now.
- 5:52The Model Y standard is giving us 85° on
- 5:56the inside. There's a foam piece on the
- 5:58inside, no glass roof exposed, 85
- 6:01degrees. The Model Y premiums with the
- 6:04glass roof, 100 degrees on the inside.
- 6:08And the Model Y L with the metallic tint
- 6:11everywhere is giving me 98°.
- 6:14So even though the Model Y standard is
- 6:17the cheapest model, it's the best at
- 6:19heat rejection [music] because you don't
- 6:20have that glass roof on the inside. Now,
- 6:22one thing you do not get with the Model
- 6:24Y standard. There's supposed to be a
- 6:26HEPA filter right here, but there's not.
- 6:28Look at this air vents and there's a
- 6:32hepailter underneath. Helps you filter
- 6:34smoke particles. That's very helpful if
- 6:37there's a fire or something like that.
- 6:38All the models have the hepailter. The
- 6:40standard does not have the hepailter. It
- 6:42does have a cabin air filter though, but
- 6:44all the other models also have a cabin
- 6:46filter. One nice thing if you do live in
- 6:47colder climates, every single Tesla
- 6:49Model Y lineup does come with heated
- 6:52wiper blades. I like that. Another thing
- 6:54that's different, the Model Y premiums
- 6:57performance and Y L have a nice seal
- 7:00here that's waterproof. Water will not
- 7:02get in. Nice and dry. Ooh, my seat
- 7:05truck. A very decentiz frunk. And
- 7:07there's also a drain plug in the frunk
- 7:10so you can just like put your ice in
- 7:12there. We come to the Model Y standard
- 7:15exposed parts. Here you have this red
- 7:18thing that it says do not cut unless
- 7:20you're a fireman. It does not fit a
- 7:22carry-on.
- 7:26Oh man. But it can fit like a backpack
- 7:28or something like that. The problem with
- 7:30that though is there's no seals all
- 7:32around. There's also no seal up here
- 7:34which means it's not the most
- 7:36waterproof.
- 7:38Oh my god, it got so wet. But I feel
- 7:40like with normal rain, normal driving,
- 7:42it's not going to get too wet. You'll be
- 7:44okay. But that is something to keep in
- 7:46mind that is different between the Model
- 7:47Y standard and all the other Teslas.
- 7:51But when you close the frunk, see how it
- 7:53closes just like that? I like that.
- 7:55Whereas with the Model Y premiums and
- 7:57all the other models, you close it and
- 8:00you have to close it again. Boom. So now
- 8:04let's talk about the inside. Starting
- 8:06with the cheapest model first. Now
- 8:07already one thing I do not like about
- 8:09the Model Y standard is that you don't
- 8:10have any seat controls.
- 8:13How much money they're saving, I have no
- 8:15idea. But to adjust the seats, you have
- 8:17to go through the screen here. Still
- 8:18comes with lumbar support, but you have
- 8:20to adjust it through the screen. The
- 8:22beauty is though is that majority of
- 8:25people have a profile because it's
- 8:26linked to their key and it automatically
- 8:28adjusts [music] based on that profile.
- 8:30Another thing that's different, the
- 8:31Model Y standard has a manual adjust
- 8:34steering wheel. So, you put this down,
- 8:36fold it in and out. If you look at the
- 8:38screen here, 15-in screen, so you have
- 8:40less screen area. Still has a fast chip,
- 8:43the Ryzen chip, and you still get the
- 8:45same tech that all the other Teslas
- 8:47have. The dashboard, textile material,
- 8:49airless air vent, so it's all controlled
- 8:51through the screen. Nice and black. A
- 8:53little bit of hard plastic right there.
- 8:54No ambient lighting, so no RGB strip
- 8:56that goes around. Vinyl cloth piece
- 8:58here. At the bottom, you have a lot more
- 9:01hard plastic. Hard plastic. hard plastic
- 9:03on the inside and then when you look at
- 9:05the windows it's one piece of glass so
- 9:07it does close differently and it will be
- 9:10a little bit louder as well when you are
- 9:11driving because it's single pane.
- 9:13Another difference is that the wireless
- 9:15chargers are [music] different plastic.
- 9:17They're not this soft Alcantara material
- 9:20and you have a giant hole here that you
- 9:23can store stuff with more hard plastic.
- 9:25You still get a lockable glove [music]
- 9:27box which is nice but they didn't line
- 9:28it with cloth or anything. It's just
- 9:30again more hard plastic on the inside of
- 9:32there. They remove lots of tiny [music]
- 9:34little things to cut cost so that's
- 9:36cheaper for the consumer. You still get
- 9:38a standard rearview mirror. However, it
- 9:40does not have any sort of adaptive
- 9:42darkening. So, if someone with super
- 9:43bright headlights is behind you, it's
- 9:45not going to turn green like the other
- 9:47cars do. But there's a reason why I
- 9:49still highly recommend this vehicle,
- 9:51which I'll talk about in a second.
- 9:52Another thing you do not get, which is a
- 9:54deal breaker for my mom, is AM FM radio.
- 9:57You can choose Spotify, YouTube Music.
- 10:00Look at all these options you can
- 10:01choose. But there's no AMFM radio in the
- 10:04Model Y standard. The seats also
- 10:06themselves, it's like a fake leather.
- 10:07They have durable cloth. Very easy to
- 10:09clean. I'm sorry.
- 10:16I got a wet towel. Not bad. Not cooled.
- 10:19There's no holes in here. So, you
- 10:20[music] do not get cooled seats in the
- 10:22Model Y standard. Just heated seats. Now
- 10:25I'm 6'3.
- 10:27Head space is great. I have this much
- 10:29head space. But let's see the space in
- 10:31the second row. I'm fully back and I
- 10:33have a solid like 2 in of space right
- 10:35there. The seats also recline manually.
- 10:39So with the full recline, I have this
- 10:41much head space. My hair is touching a
- 10:43little bit, but overall it's very
- 10:44comfortable back here. No coat hook
- 10:46hangers or anything like that. Another
- 10:48thing you don't get anymore, no pockets
- 10:49back there. You have manual air vent, no
- 10:51screen or anything. Two USBC ports. And
- 10:54here is a funny one. This piece doesn't
- 10:56come down. The whole thing comes down,
- 10:58which reveals some cup holders, and you
- 11:00can put your armrest there. So,
- 11:01literally the middle piece comes all the
- 11:03way down, but you still have an
- 11:04adjustable headrest. You could still
- 11:05have a higher headrest if you wanted to.
- 11:07And these seats are not heated in the
- 11:10second row. So, they're just normal
- 11:11bench seats. And that's it. And now we
- 11:14move on to the Model Y Premiums. Model Y
- 11:17Premiums come in a black or white
- 11:20interior. Baymax not included. Now, this
- 11:22is the older Model Y premium, [music] so
- 11:24it does have the white headliner. I'll
- 11:26show you the black headliners in a
- 11:27second. It does also come with a glass
- 11:30metallic tinted roof. Everyday Jen is
- 11:32afraid of the sun, so she put some sort
- 11:33of sunshine on one side. I don't know
- 11:35why. I do not condone her Asian actions.
- 11:38But on the inside of the Model Y
- 11:39Premium, there's a little bit more
- 11:41premium plastic black strip, but [music]
- 11:44there's RGB lighting integrated. Soft
- 11:47plastic in here, fabric here, metal
- 11:50speaker grill, same white color seat
- 11:52material here, and [music] everything is
- 11:53just soft. See, nothing is hard. Even on
- 11:56the inside, it's all soft. On the
- 11:58dashboard, you still have that fabric
- 11:59piece there. Airless air vents, but this
- 12:02piece has RGB lighting integrated, so it
- 12:04wraps around. Another thing that's great
- 12:05is [music] you have dual pane glass, so
- 12:07it's quieter. And when you close the
- 12:08door,
- 12:10wow, I take it back. The door still
- 12:12feels like it closes like cheap.
- 12:17I've been in Lexuses and premium
- 12:19vehicles and when you close the door it
- 12:22closes like tonk. You know that tunk
- 12:24sound like the tink. These ones, the
- 12:27standard as well as the premiums.
- 12:30Golly, what am I in a Honda 1999 [music]
- 12:32Honda Civic? Anyways, all of these are
- 12:35automatic. You have actual physical
- 12:37controls in the seats, automatic
- 12:39steering wheel adjustments, up or down,
- 12:41in and out on easy entry profile. It'll
- 12:44automatically move. Wireless charger
- 12:46still, but it's like Alcantara, so it's
- 12:48nice and [music] soft and grippy. Center
- 12:50storage areas here, so you have tons of
- 12:52storage here. You just have like more
- 12:53[music] material here, like a nice
- 12:55premium looking material there as well.
- 12:57The seats are heated and cooled, so it
- 13:00shoots out nice cool air on your booty.
- 13:02Now, when I sit in the Model Y Premium,
- 13:03I feel kind of low to the ground. My eye
- 13:05level is here. I have whopping this much
- 13:08head space in the Model Y premiums. Now,
- 13:11in the second row, you get some unique
- 13:13features in the Model Y premiums. First
- 13:15off, look at that. Put stuff here as
- 13:18well if you wanted to. There's no hard
- 13:20plastic on the sides. It's all soft. You
- 13:21also have a center display now, so you
- 13:23can play games, Netflix, chill, and you
- 13:26have air vents that you can control
- 13:27[music] through the screen. Two USBC
- 13:29ports. And the beauty with this one is
- 13:31you have automatic recline. So, if you
- 13:32want to recline it, I feel like I have
- 13:34more head space because there's this
- 13:36glass piece. [music] There's no foam.
- 13:37So, I have more head space in the Model
- 13:38Y premiums versus the standards. And now
- 13:40bring this down. You have the cup holder
- 13:42here. Higher elbow support, so it's nice
- 13:45and comfortable. This still adjusts up
- 13:47and down as well. So that's nice. It is
- 13:49heated, so not cooled. The Model Y
- 13:52premiums also have dual pane [music]
- 13:53glass in the rears, so it is much
- 13:56quieter. Now we go to the Model Y
- 13:58performance. And the Premiums have the
- 14:00new black headliner. I don't know about
- 14:02you guys, I love the black headliner
- 14:04look. Completes the look. makes
- 14:06everything fluid, especially cuz all the
- 14:08dashboard and stuff is also black. With
- 14:10the Model Y performance, you get some
- 14:12unique features. First off, a carbon
- 14:14fiber piece here. In the dash, you also
- 14:16get carbon fiber. Everything else is the
- 14:19same. RGB lighting, automatic steering
- 14:21wheel. Doesn't look any different
- 14:22between a [music] premium. No change
- 14:24there. Here's where the differences
- 14:26occur. When I sit in the performance, my
- 14:28eye level is so much higher. [music]
- 14:30It's like here versus the premiums where
- 14:32I'm a little bit lower. And you notice
- 14:33the difference coming from both cars.
- 14:35And I was like, how did that happen? And
- 14:37I realized it's because of the new
- 14:40performance seats. These are beautiful.
- 14:43First off, all new headrest, fixed
- 14:46headrest. [music] It's comfortable. I
- 14:47like it. Performance badging. You have
- 14:49all new stitching here. A little grippy.
- 14:51It's all black. It's great. Extended
- 14:53bolsters to kind of hug you in those
- 14:55curves. [music] Goes all across here.
- 14:57Heated and ventilated. But the best and
- 15:00newest feature is an extendable thigh
- 15:02bolster. But aside from that, Monoy
- 15:04performance, Moni Premiums is [music]
- 15:07the exact same. So
- 15:12yeah, has the exact same speakers, exact
- 15:14same sound system. One difference, and
- 15:16again this is standard now in the
- 15:18premiums, QHD 16in screen, less bezels,
- 15:21and that allows you to have more screen
- 15:23surface area. You have a higher
- 15:25definition screen. Nothing crazy. You
- 15:28don't really notice a huge difference,
- 15:30but it is a different update screen.
- 15:32Now, in the performance, same head
- 15:34space, leg space is a little bit less
- 15:36because of these all new seat. The back
- 15:38piece kind of sticks out. So, you lose a
- 15:40couple features actually. You don't have
- 15:41a seat back pocket here. You still get
- 15:43that recline carbon fiber piece here as
- 15:45well, but other than that, exact same
- 15:47vehicle as the premiums. And now we move
- 15:50on to the Model Y L. And there's already
- 15:52so many differences. Now, the thing a
- 15:55lot of people don't talk about is
- 15:57insurance. And one website you can use
- 15:59that's kind of like a broker for finding
- 16:01the cheapest prices for car insurance is
- 16:04Savemax Auto, which is today's sponsor.
- 16:07Before you automatically add a new car

- 16:55description. The first Tesla that I feel
- 16:57like has the most premium sounding
- 16:59closing doors. And I think it's because
- 17:01of the extra seals they added. Listen.
- 17:04First off, interior choices. They have
- 17:06black. They also have a new Zen gray
- 17:08color, black headliner, standard, which
- 17:10is [music] great. Still have that
- 17:12metallic tint glass roof, dual pane in
- 17:14the front and the rears as well. RGB
- 17:16lighting. You have cloth here, metal
- 17:19speaker grill. However, this is all new
- 17:21in the Zen [music] gray. It has kind of
- 17:23like a suede look to it. This one is
- 17:25Alcantara, so it does have a more
- 17:28premium feel. The dashboard also has
- 17:30that Alcantara look. Really nice as
- 17:32well. RGB [music] lighting, ventless air
- 17:34vents, wireless charger. Same, same,
- 17:36same same. It all seems the same, right?
- 17:38You all it's the same car. But then we
- 17:40come to the seats. You think it looks
- 17:42like the performance seats, but they're
- 17:44not. You get an adjustable headrest,
- 17:46clutch. Everyday Gen has it down here. I
- 17:48have it all the way up here cuz I'm
- 17:50tall. like the performance seats. You
- 17:52have the bolsters here, but they're not
- 17:53so hefty and thick. It's a lot softer.
- 17:55This is going to be comfortable for more
- 17:57people. It's a lot of people don't like
- 17:59the bolsters in the performance. They're
- 18:00a little too stiff, too rigid. This
- 18:03one's soft. It's cozy. It's comfy. It's
- 18:06nice. Heated and ventilated as well. But
- 18:09they kept one of the performance
- 18:10features, which [music] is what I love.
- 18:12Extendable thigh bolster. I like it a
- 18:14lot. Just like the premiums. When I sit,
- 18:17my eye level is here. So, it's lower.
- 18:19There's no real difference. Like it
- 18:21doesn't feel like a Model X where it
- 18:22feels like bigger [music] and taller on
- 18:23this side. It's all the same here.
- 18:25Here's the difference where all that
- 18:27extra money you spend actually matters
- 18:30in a Tesla Model Y L. The second row.
- 18:33Now, one difference with the Model Y L
- 18:35versus all the other Teslas is they
- 18:37opened up this piece here. So, it's a
- 18:38lot wider. So, getting in and out is so
- 18:40much easier because it's completely
- 18:43straight. Another thing they focused on
- 18:44was they wanted to be as quiet as
- 18:46possible. They added another seal there.
- 18:4867 mph, 62 dBs. Not bad. All the way
- 18:52across for the Model Y L. Something you
- 18:55don't find in the premiums. Captain's
- 18:57chairs, adjustable, so all automatic.
- 18:59You can go all the way as far back as
- 19:00you want. When I go all the way back, so
- 19:02much leg space. You can recline.
- 19:06And apparently,
- 19:08you could really recline.
- 19:11No, that's the only recline you could
- 19:12do. I thought it would be like legit
- 19:13recline. So much head space. this much
- 19:17head space. Seat back pocket here. You
- 19:20also have heated and ventilated seats in
- 19:23the second row, adjustable headrests
- 19:25here. So, they took the seats from the
- 19:27first row, smacked it into the second
- 19:30row. You think that, right? No, they
- 19:31didn't. They added way more elbow
- 19:33support here, but it's automatic. Push
- 19:34this button,
- 19:36automatically comes up. Or you want to
- 19:38adjust the height, you just do it. They
- 19:39improve the climate. And they added way
- 19:41more stuff. This whole piece is all new
- 19:43for the Model Y. Not only does it give
- 19:45you a little bit of extra shoulder space
- 19:46in the front because it curves in, you
- 19:49get air vents and it's all soft plastic,
- 19:52it's nothing hard. They did a great job
- 19:54with the Model Y. You also have, of
- 19:55course, just like the other Teslas, the
- 19:57premium, the performance, LED lighting,
- 19:59adjustable, and you have coat hood
- 20:01hangers in the center here. You still
- 20:03have that center [music] display with
- 20:04the airless air vents that you could
- 20:06adjust the C ports, but you have cup
- 20:08holders here now, which is awesome. The
- 20:10Model Y L 19 speakers, new speakers. I
- 20:14want to steal this speaker and put in my
- 20:16car. Is that Can I do that? Will Tesla
- 20:17find out if I stole this speaker? Man,
- 20:20one thing you can do with the Model Y,
- 20:22you can completely lower the seat if you
- 20:23wanted to, but that's all it does. It's
- 20:25not like the Model X which kind of it
- 20:26goes up so you can gain access to the
- 20:28third row easier, but the third row is
- 20:30great in the Model Y. Let's check it
- 20:33out. Now, I am a little bit on the hefty
- 20:34side. I ate a big munch.
- 20:37Okay. Okay. That's not going to I like
- 20:40how you could put the elbow rest down so
- 20:41I have a little bit more space to get in
- 20:43and out. Bit more here.
- 20:47Back here.
- 20:51So getting in and out as in a fulls size
- 20:54adult male is not the easiest in the
- 20:56third row. However, once I'm back here,
- 20:58my knee is touching and smashed against
- 21:00the seat here. But I can always extend
- 21:03my leg out like this, and it is much
- 21:04more comfortable, which is nice. I like
- 21:06that. You have real air vents in the
- 21:08third [music] row now. So, they work.
- 21:09They're real air vents. This window is
- 21:12actually bigger. So, it's a bigger
- 21:13window. It's also tempered. I think it
- 21:16sounds quieter, which means you're going
- 21:17to get less road noise. You have
- 21:18switches here to automatically recline
- 21:20the seats, [music] too. And when I'm all
- 21:21the way recline back, my head is jammed.
- 21:23But when I'm forward like this, my head
- 21:25is not touching, and I have this much
- 21:27head space. It's [music] nice. You have
- 21:28cup holders, elbow support, USBC ports.
- 21:31Very comfortable. Back here. They have a
- 21:33new rear comfort mode which makes it so
- 21:35if you go over big bumps it kind of
- 21:37levels it out better so it's a little
- 21:38bit more comfortable for the third row
- 21:40and second row. But overall not too bad.
- 21:41Now the real question is trunk space.
- 21:44Right? We have all these six people and
- 21:46how's the trunk? Let's [music] check it
- 21:47out. Okay. My big clown feet
- 21:52and then getting out of this thing is
- 21:55so tough. Oh yeah. Okay. All the Model
- 22:00Y's have the same trunk motors, powered
- 22:03trunk motors, so it opens and closes
- 22:05easier.
- 22:09Holy, this is Okay, if you guys own the
- 22:12Y L, be careful. The hatch height seems
- 22:15way higher than the normal premium wise.
- 22:18That is like all the way up there. But
- 22:20here's the cool thing. All the trunk
- 22:21heights are adjustable. Find the height
- 22:23that you want. Hold.
- 22:28It's going to chime
- 22:30but go to the screen and it'll save that
- 22:33height at the location too even which is
- 22:35awesome. Surprisingly, the trunk is
- 22:37almost identical across the cheapest
- 22:39Model Y premium and performance. Same
- 22:42size, same storage compartments, two sub
- 22:45trunks, and enough room for four pieces
- 22:48of luggage. Now, the Model Y standard is
- 22:50standard. You don't get a parcel shelf,
- 22:52although you can add one aftermarket,
- 22:55and you lose the automatic seat release
- 22:57switches. There's no way to lower the
- 22:58second row right here. So, if I try
- 23:00lowering the second row, it always
- 23:01smacks into the second row and I have to
- 23:03go adjust the first row and then go to
- 23:05the second row. [music]
- 23:16>> Here, when you fold the seats down,
- 23:18there is a slight angle, but thankfully
- 23:20there are no awkward gaps or holes.
- 23:22>> It is more comfortable here cuz it's
- 23:23fully flat. So, with the [music]
- 23:25mattress, you can actually sleep pretty
- 23:26comfortably, assuming you're not too
- 23:28tall.
- 23:30My feet are sticking out much more than
- 23:32the Model Y. The beauty with Premium's
- 23:35performances is that they have switches
- 23:37here where you can lower all the seats.
- 23:40And if the front seats are too far back,
- 23:42they'll automatically move forward to
- 23:44make room for the second row to fold
- 23:45flat, then move right back to where they
- 23:48were. But the Wild takes it a step
- 23:49further. You get the same feature for
- 23:51both the second and third rows. But now
- 23:53we're in the Model Y and there's already
- 23:55a lot of differences, right? You still
- 23:56have a ton of cubby space on the sides
- 23:58here. You also have grocery hooks here
- 24:00if you want to store your groceries
- 24:02there. Still have a 12vt [music] outlet.
- 24:03However, because we have the third row,
- 24:05you don't have a secondary sub trunk,
- 24:07but you do still have a nice deep sub
- 24:09trunk [music] with magnetic latches. So,
- 24:10it could stay open like this.
- 24:15[sighs and gasps]
- 24:17However, one thing you can notice have a
- 24:20new design glass now in the Y L. So,
- 24:22it's more circular. Look at all the
- 24:24space you have on the inside of the
- 24:26vehicle. Still so much space to load
- 24:28stuff up versus the older ones, which is
- 24:30kind of like a flatter shape here. So,
- 24:32that's why you can't really load stuff
- 24:34up this way because it's just flat. So,
- 24:36now that the seats lowered, look at this
- 24:38little gap that we have here. But, they
- 24:40thought of that. So, they have these
- 24:41like plastic pieces that you lift up,
- 24:43but now it just makes it a little bit
- 24:45more flat. So, I camped here overnight
- 24:47with my wife, my golden retriever, and
- 24:49Pomeranian. because it's longer. You
- 24:50would think that it would be more
- 24:52comfortable to sleep in. And overall, it
- 24:54is more comfortable. However, one thing
- 24:56I realized is the way that these second
- 24:58row seats, it's kind of molded [music]
- 24:59like this. This slopes down. So, if I
- 25:03can't put my pillow here, and when it's
- 25:05molded like this, it means that when you
- 25:07put a mattress or a pillow, [music] it's
- 25:08going to sink down. So, when it does
- 25:10sink down, I can't use that. Obviously,
- 25:12no one wants to sleep with their neck in
- 25:13hyperextension. So, I end up having to
- 25:16sleep [music] further back.
- 25:17>> Have to sleep at an angle again. So,
- 25:19just like the Model Y premiums, I would
- 25:20have to move my body at an angle.
- 25:23>> It's so uncomfortable.
- 25:25>> Something to keep in mind, something I
- 25:26didn't realize until we actually camped
- 25:27in it. But yeah, I thought it would be
- 25:28the best camping vehicle, but I don't
- 25:31think it still is just for a tall
- 25:33person. If you're a normal size person,
- 25:35I think it's great cuz a lot of people
- 25:36want to know. I just want the Model Y L
- 25:38for the increased space. In that case,
- 25:40yes, I do recommend the Model Y L for
- 25:42sure because you [music] have way more
- 25:43space. But the biggest difference
- 25:45between the Model Y's isn't just the
- 25:47interior. It's what happens when you get
- 25:49behind the wheel. Now, the Model Y
- 25:52standard rear wheel drive 0 to 60 in 6.8
- 25:56seconds.
- 25:59Handling is decent, but not as good as
- 26:03the normal all-wheel drive. But now they
- 26:05have an all-wheel drive version. You get
- 26:070 to 60 4.6. Definitely a huge
- 26:09difference just in terms of speed and
- 26:11cornering because you have all-wheel
- 26:12drive. You have better traction. But is
- 26:14it worth the $2,000 upgrade to go from
- 26:17rear wheel drive to all-wheel drive? I
- 26:20don't know. But overall, this car drives
- 26:22great. It has a fixed suspension.
- 26:26Not bad. It's not as soft as the Model Y
- 26:28premiums. It is a little bit rougher,
- 26:31but it's noticeably rougher, and it's
- 26:33not as rough as the OG Tesla Model Y's.
- 26:36I drove this thing. I was very
- 26:37comfortable with it. I have no
- 26:39complaints. Now, the Model Y premiums,
- 26:41it's a great daily driver. You can
- 26:43choose between rear wheel drive and
- 26:44all-wheel drive, [music] which gives you
- 26:46a 0 to 60 time of 5.4 versus 4.6
- 26:49seconds. If you've driven an older Tesla
- 26:51Model Y, it feels like you're like on a
- 26:52Jeep. Brace yourself.
- 26:55The suspension is much improved. 8 mph.
- 26:58Ooh, that's smooth. Good handling.
- 27:01[music] Does a great job. I think it's a
- 27:02solid vehicle for most people. But if
- 27:04you're like me and want the feeling of a
- 27:06sports car without giving up the
- 27:08practicality of an SUV, [music] the
- 27:09Model Y performance the one to get. 060
- 27:123.3 seconds. You want to turn up.
- 27:15THIS is insane.
- 27:18Woo! And it's so much fun. The handling
- 27:21is amazing. But then if I just want to
- 27:23not even worry about it, just push a
- 27:25button and I'm on full self-driving
- 27:26[music] just like that. You can adjust
- 27:28the ride comfort from standard and
- 27:30sport, but it's not overly aggressive,
- 27:33overly bumpy. Slightly softer than a
- 27:35Macan EV, [music] I would have to say.
- 27:36Again, if you want a sports vehicle,
- 27:37though, get a Model 3 Performance or
- 27:39something else. smells like rubber.
- 27:41There's no track mode on this thing,
- 27:42which I don't really care about. I'll
- 27:43never take it to the track, but overall
- 27:45very, very comfortable. Love the
- 27:47vehicle.
- 27:47>> But the Moto Y, it's bigger than the
- 27:49rest, so you'd expect it to drive worse,
- 27:53right?
- 27:53>> Launch Series 0 to 60, 4.2 seconds,
- 27:57which is fast for something that's
- 27:58longer, heavier, taller.
- 28:01>> Oh, yeah. Held well. Doesn't feel like a
- 28:04longer vehicle. And then the
- 28:06acceleration boost. This thing is so
- 28:08fast. It is very similar to the monitor
- 28:10performance as adaptive dampeners. No
- 28:12air suspension any of these models, but
- 28:14the adaptive dampeners allow you to have
- 28:15something called balance mode or rear
- 28:17comfort mode if you want to prioritize
- 28:18the comfort in the third row and second
- 28:20row. So, when you go over speed bumps,
- 28:22it looks like this. The problem with the
- 28:24model, only problem is that it has a
- 28:27longer wheelbase. So, making U-turns is
- 28:29a little bit more difficult. Here we go.
- 28:33Oh, definitely three lanes.
- 28:38However, maneuverability, driving
- 28:40dynamics, everything else is amazing.
- 28:42We're going to talk about something that
- 28:43[music] I feel like nobody talks about
- 28:45or thinks about until they actually own
- 28:47a Tesla, which is wheels and tires.
- 28:51Now, standards come with the 18 or 19
- 28:54in. These are the 18 in. Keep the 18 in.
- 28:58Don't go with the 19s. You don't need to
- 29:00decrease your range even further. 18 in
- 29:02look great, work well, highly
- 29:04recommended. Also, tire sizes are the
- 29:07same in the front and the back. Coming
- 29:10to the premiums, 19s or 20s. These are
- 29:13the 19s. Keep the 19s. Don't go with the
- 29:1620s. The 20s have all these holes in
- 29:18them and it reduces your range like
- 29:20crazy. You could actually move the cover
- 29:22of the 19s.
- 29:24Okay, there we go. Be careful. Put some
- 29:26black lug nut covers on there. It
- 29:28actually looks really good. I highly
- 29:30recommend doing that if you still want a
- 29:32cooler, sportier Tesla Model Y look
- 29:34while you drop off your kids at soccer
- 29:36camp. Tires in the front kies, same
- 29:39thing as the rear size. Same tire sizes.
- 29:42It's a good thing you go to America's
- 29:44tires, you rotate them, the tires last
- 29:46much longer. But then we come to the
- 29:49Model Y performance in a whopping 21in
- 29:53wheel. You can see that there's some
- 29:55covers on here. So, there's a cover
- 29:56here, cover here, cover here, cover
- 29:58here, red brake calipers in there. But
- 30:00because it's a 21 in, because we have
- 30:02those holes, it does decrease your
- 30:04range. However, one caveat, the front
- 30:08and rear tires are not the same size.
- 30:11Now, I've been driving this bad boy for
- 30:12around 1,300 miles now. I've been
- 30:14ripping it a little bit here and there
- 30:15because I mean, it's so much fun. Why
- 30:17not? And if you guys didn't know, one
- 30:18thing you can use is a penny. You can
- 30:21kind of already see we have some wear.
- 30:24There's no way this is going to last
- 30:25like 20, 30,000 miles, maybe 15,
- 30:29but that is insane. And some people
- 30:31argue you could cross rotate, but I
- 30:33talked to a bunch of tire people and
- 30:34they all say it's not worth it. The
- 30:36problem with that is that you're going
- 30:37to go ahead and decrease the life of
- 30:39your tires because you can't rotate
- 30:41them. You're going to be buying tires
- 30:42more often. But the pro is you have
- 30:44better traction, better handling because
- 30:47the tires in the back are wider. And
- 30:49then we move on to the family SUV, the
- 30:52Model Y L. Now the Model Y L already
- 30:55they changed it up. These are 20 in. And
- 30:58look,
- 31:00this is the only hole you could finger.
- 31:02Everything else is closed up. So for the
- 31:04first time ever, going with bigger rims
- 31:07is not going to dramatically decrease
- 31:08your range. It's only a 5 mile
- 31:10difference going from the 19s to the
- 31:1220s. The 19s look great though. Comfier
- 31:15ride. So, if the Model Y L is like, I
- 31:17want it just to be a family vehicle. I
- 31:19don't care about anything else. Go with
- 31:20the 19s. However, because you're having
- 31:22more weight in the back, six people,
- 31:24they still want it also to have good
- 31:26performance as well, good handling. So,
- 31:28again, you are going to decrease the
- 31:30life of your tires quicker. So, keep
- 31:32that in mind. Now, all these Teslas are
- 31:35supported with Tesla Supercharging. 160
- 31:37mi in 15 minutes, which is very good
- 31:40considering when you go to the premiums,
- 31:44169 mi in [music] 15 minutes. Even a
- 31:46little better. When we come to the Model
- 31:48Y performance, and for some reason, I
- 31:50still don't know, 144 mi in 15 minutes.
- 31:53So, not the best charging curve, not a
- 31:56good road trip vehicle, but something to
- 31:59keep in mind that even though it should
- 32:00be charging at 250 kW, I thought it was
- 32:03because it's [music] a different battery
- 32:04type, that's why it's a lower charge.
- 32:07However, the Model Y L is also a
- 32:09different battery type and it's also a
- 32:11bigger battery, but you can charge 15
- 32:14minutes, 164 miles, so very, very good
- 32:17overall. No matter [music] what, you're
- 32:18in the clear charging wise, except for
- 32:21my favorite vehicle, the Model Y
- 32:22performance. But [music] the Model Y
- 32:25performance and the Model Y L were the
- 32:28only two vehicles to have vehicle to
- 32:31load where you can charge another
- 32:33electric vehicle. You can power your
- 32:35hair dryer. You can power your Ninja
- 32:37Slushie.
- 32:38>> Oh yeah.
- 32:40>> Because they just released an update
- 32:42where some of the premiums can [music]
- 32:44now use vehicle to load and use an
- 32:46outlet. But since mine is a OG premium,
- 32:49the launch series, I want to see if it's
- 32:50compatible or not. Let's check.
- 32:53not lighting up. It does not work unless
- 32:55there's a software update that needs to
- 32:57be pushed to my vehicle. Premiums launch
- 32:59series edition for right now doesn't
- 33:02work. Now, after driving all these
- 33:04vehicles, they all have something
- 33:06different to offer, right? However,
- 33:08there are issues. First off, the
- 33:10standard all-wheel drive is the first
- 33:12Tesla to have less than 300 mile 294
- 33:15miles at 100%. You should not be
- 33:18charging your Tesla to 100%. It should
- 33:19be 80% and after a few months battery
- 33:22degradation, you're going to have less
- 33:23miles regardless. So, even though it's
- 33:25like a $2,000 upgrade, it doesn't seem
- 33:27that much. I don't recommend the Model Y
- 33:29standard all-wheel drive. The rear wheel
- 33:31drive is great. It works well. Use that
- 33:34$2,000 on full self-driving. But what
- 33:37about the sound? Because these four
- 33:39don't all sound the same. Sound test
- 33:43>> with the Model Y standard. It comes with
- 33:45nine speakers [music] to save on cost.
- 33:47But already with the EQ at least,
- 33:48there's less presets. There's only one,
- 33:50two, three, four. However, surprisingly,
- 33:52they still did a great job. Like, I'll
- 33:54let you hear the mono wise standard,
- 33:55then we'll go into the premium. So, you
- 33:57hear the premium
- 33:59[music]
- 34:04>> like on flat cuz this is how you know a
- 34:07good sound system is how it is on flat.
- 34:11>> [music]
- 34:14>> I don't know how they did it, but the
- 34:15standard sound system is amazing. They
- 34:18don't have an actual sub anymore, but
- 34:20the woofers provide plenty of bass.
- 34:22[music] It sounds so good. Good job,
- 34:24Tesla, on the Model Y standard sound
- 34:26system. The Model Y premium and the
- 34:28performance has 16 speakers, but how
- 34:31well does it sound?
- 34:37>> [music]
- 34:39>> Teslas always have amazing sound
- 34:40systems. I found that the Model A
- 34:42premiums are a little bit on the
- 34:43brighter [music] side, so I have to
- 34:45lower the treble a little bit. Now, I've
- 34:48personally owned a Tesla Model [music]
- 34:49X, personally own the Tesla Cybertruck.
- 34:51Cybertruck had one of the best sound
- 34:53systems in any vehicle I've ever been
- 34:55in, and I thought that was it. The Model
- 34:57Y L 19 [music] speakers, new speakers,
- 35:00it sounds so good. They have a new thing
- 35:02called immersive sound X. Don't believe
- 35:05me? [music]
- 35:15>> And it sounds so good. I don't know how
- 35:17they did it. I feel like I'm at the
- 35:18concert. Taylor Swift concert. Sounds so
- 35:20good. But all these Teslas include a
- 35:234year or 50,000mi basic warranty. The
- 35:26Model Y standard receives an 8year or
- 35:29100,000 mi battery warranty. and all the
- 35:31rest of the Tesla Model Y models extends
- 35:34that battery warranty to 120,000 miles.
- 35:37But after driving all these vehicles,
- 35:38the Model Y L, the Model Y performance
- 35:41premiums, I own both of these two and
- 35:43the Model Y standard, here's my thought,
- 35:46and I'm also curious to see what ever
- 35:47Jan's going to say. If your goal is
- 35:49commuting, if you just want to like, I
- 35:51just want a car that I could drive from
- 35:53point A to point B. I have more utility.
- 35:55I could take stuff with me. Easier
- 35:57Costco trips. Model Y standard rearwheel
- 35:59drive. All these Teslas come with the
- 36:01same tech. Same full self-driving.
- 36:03Sentry mode. Amazing [music] app. The
- 36:06best software in any car company ever. I
- 36:10don't know about China, but in the US at
- 36:12least, it's the best.
- 36:13>> I'm a little down in the dumps. The
- 36:15weather's bad. I mean, what do I do?
- 36:16>> Get some natural light if you can.
- 36:18>> Has good miles. Fast enough. Charges
- 36:21well. Model Y standard. Rear wheel drive
- 36:23is a little bit slower, but once you're
- 36:25on the freeways, you get that instant
- 36:26torque no matter what. So, it doesn't
- 36:28feel like a very slow vehicle. There are
- 36:30homes, eight to$9 million homes like up
- 36:33the hill up there somewhere. I mean, I
- 36:35feel like it's a different zip code, a
- 36:36whole another world. Sometimes I walk
- 36:37there so I could feel like, oh wow, this
- 36:39is what it's like to be rich. Even they
- 36:41have Model Y standards and a Model Y
- 36:44stands right there. So, what does that
- 36:45tell you? It's a good value. [music]
- 36:47It's a good daily driver. It's a good
- 36:48car and it's safe. The premiums gives
- 36:51you a little more features. you know,
- 36:53the heated seats, the automatic rear
- 36:55folding seats, miles, quicker speed. I
- 36:58love my premium all-wheel drive. I think
- 37:00it's a great car. This would be the one
- 37:02for most people. [music]
- 37:04If you just started a family, have one
- 37:06kid, maybe two kids, Model Y premium
- 37:08rearwheel drive is a good choice. No
- 37:11need to get the all-wheel drive unless
- 37:12you want a little bit faster speed, a
- 37:14little bit better handling, but I do
- 37:16recommend it if you are in an area with
- 37:18bad weather. The performance is the car
- 37:19that nobody should need unless you have
- 37:21money to waste and everyday Jan.
- 37:25Hopefully you didn't hear that. My wife,
- 37:28it's a car that I love to drive. I love
- 37:30this car. I love everything about the
- 37:32vehicle. I love being able to go next to
- 37:34like a Lambo Urus and be like, I could
- 37:36almost beat you. I think a Lambo Urus
- 37:38does 06 and like 2.5. What is that?
- 37:40Pikachu.
- 37:42What?
- 37:43Pikachu dabbing. Damn. But 3.3, not bad.
- 37:48The Model Y L, it's a great vehicle. The
- 37:51Model Y L. I think the Model Y is solid
- 37:53if you're saying, you know what, the
- 37:54Model Y premiums are nice, but I want a
- 37:56little bit more space, a little bit more
- 37:58practicality usage in case people are
- 38:00over. I want to have that extra seat in
- 38:03case I need to. Model Y is great in all
- 38:05aspects, and I cannot stop with that
- 38:08sound system. It is the best sound
- 38:09system ever. If I had to choose
- 38:11personally, of course, I chose already.
- 38:13I chose the Model Y performance, my PP,
- 38:15baby. And what does PP stand for? Pepe
- 38:18performance. But in second place, if I
- 38:20didn't get the Rivian R2, I for sure
- 38:23would have gotten the Model Y. But
- 38:25that's my answer. Everyday Jen, if you
- 38:28could choose one Tesla only, which one
- 38:30did you choose and why? Actually,
- 38:32>> you're the practical woman in your
- 38:34normal size. I choose the premium rear
- 38:37wheel drive because it has the most
- 38:39miles. 357 miles and I'm on FSD like 95%
- 38:44of the time anyways. But I need the HEPA
- 38:47filter, the waterproof frunk, the
- 38:49automatic seats folding down because
- 38:51when you go to Costco,
- 38:55>> that really helps a lot. So, premium
- 38:57rear wheel drive for me.
- 38:59>> Which one will you choose? See you guys
- 39:01later.
- 39:04And today I'll show you which Tesla
- 39:07version you should actually buy. I just
- 39:09realized I talked I should be talking
- 39:11more and more and more and then now I'm
- 39:13here. These are a lot of cars. Just took
- 39:15us forever to get these.
