I Studied Gold Lane Macro so You Don't Have To — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00I studied every game from Oheb, Skyler,
- 0:03and Kelra to figure out how the gold
- 0:05lane macro is supposed to be played.
- 0:08But, what makes this video special is
- 0:10that we'll start from the draft and
- 0:12slowly move forward until late game.
- 0:15Turns out, gold lane macro isn't that
- 0:18simple because you need to adjust your
- 0:21draft, find the best farming pattern for
- 0:23early, mid, and late game, learn how to
- 0:26survive the four-man game, how to stay
- 0:29alive during team fights, and avoid all
- 0:32the common mistakes all gold laners
- 0:34make. The hard part, you need to adjust
- 0:37all that based on the hero you're using.
- 0:41So, let's start with the draft phase.
- 0:43It's divided into two, a full five-man
- 0:46party and a non-five-man party. When
- 0:50you're in a full five-man party, you
- 0:52should pick based on your team's
- 0:54composition. But, the problem is your
- 0:57teammates might not understand the
- 0:59theory behind it. So, just follow this
- 1:02guide. If your team has a lot of ranged
- 1:06heroes, you're playing a poke comp. So,
- 1:08pick gold laners with long range like
- 1:11Layla, Granger, or Lesley. If your team
- 1:14has two or three tanky heroes, that
- 1:17means it's a frontal back composition.
- 1:20Pick gold laner with high DPS like
- 1:23Nathan, Wanwan, or Moskov. But, if your
- 1:26team has dive type heroes, you're
- 1:29running a dive comp. So, pick mobile
- 1:32gold laners like Irithel, Karrie, or
- 1:34Claude. When you're not in a five-man
- 1:37party, your draft depends on your rank.
- 1:40If you're Mythic AD or above, you must
- 1:42fill your teammates' weaknesses using
- 1:45the theory we discussed earlier. But, be
- 1:47careful, don't [music] pick heroes that
- 1:49rely heavily on communication like
- 1:52Zhuxin, the Freya Diggie combo, or the
- 1:55Hayabusa X.borg combo. For example, look
- 1:59at this draft. [music]
- 2:00Benedetta XP lane, Yi Sun-shin jungle,
- 2:04Hayabusa roam, and Kimmy mid lane. If
- 2:07you pick a marksman, your team will be
- 2:09too squishy. So, it's better to pick a
- 2:12fighter gold laner like Ruby. This rule
- 2:16only applies to Mythic AD and above
- 2:19where your gold laner doesn't have to be
- 2:21a marksman or mage. If you're below
- 2:24that, pick a hero that can carry, then
- 2:27adjust your damage type. When your team
- 2:30already has a lot of magic heroes, pick
- 2:33physical and vice versa. It's better to
- 2:37think of the game as one versus nine.
- 2:39So, make sure your hero can carry on his
- 2:42own. Once you've picked your hero,
- 2:45immediately check the enemy gold laner.
- 2:48Compare it to yours to choose the right
- 2:50emblem. There are two possibilities. If
- 2:53you're weaker in the early game, choose
- 2:56a defensive emblem. Switch your marksman
- 2:59emblem to the common emblem with quantum
- 3:02charge. But, if it's even or you have
- 3:04the early game advantage, go with the
- 3:07marksman, assassin, or mage emblem
- 3:10depending on your hero. Wait, hold on.
- 3:14All of that depends on the hero's power
- 3:17spike, right? So, how do we actually
- 3:19determine the power spike for each hero?
- 3:22Even though you'll have to understand
- 3:25every gold laner, this guide is perfect
- 3:28for beginners. [music]
- 3:29There are gold laners that are strong in
- 3:32early, mid, or late game. Keep in mind,
- 3:35this is just a beginner's guide. So, the
- 3:38more you play, you'll understand each
- 3:41hero's details. With that, you'll
- 3:43understand drafting. Sadly, it'll all be
- 3:47useless if you don't know how to play.
- 3:49In the early game, your job is to farm
- 3:52while harassing your lane opponent. To
- 3:55stay safe, you must understand the lane
- 3:57zones. There's a safe, neutral, and
- 4:01dangerous zone. Always check the mini
- 4:03map and keep track of the enemies mid,
- 4:06[music]
- 4:06roamer, and jungler. If one of them
- 4:09disappears, move to the neutral zone. If
- 4:12[music] two disappear, fall back to the
- 4:14safe zone. One common mistake players
- 4:17make is joining little wanderer fights.
- 4:20That's your mid, jungler, and roamer's
- 4:22job, not yours. Just focus on farming
- 4:26and harassing your lane. But, the most
- 4:28important thing when you're in a
- 4:30one-v-one fight against your opponent is
- 4:33knowing when to fight or flight, which
- 4:35means you must know these three
- 4:37conditions. If hero is stronger in the
- 4:41early game, freeze the minions and zone
- 4:43your opponent so they can't reach the XP
- 4:46[music] area, which is the area where
- 4:49they gain gold and XP when your minions
- 4:52die. By zoning them out, they'll get no
- 4:55gold and XP. But, don't overextend.
- 4:58[music]
- 4:59Always check the enemy mid, jungler, and
- 5:02roamer's position and keep good
- 5:04positioning. If that's so, what if
- 5:07you're the one with the disadvantage?
- 5:10You need to play safely. Farm as much as
- 5:13you can in the safe zone. It's better to
- 5:16miss a last hit than die. However, what
- 5:19if it's even? First, farm and poke the
- 5:22enemy as much as possible. If the enemy
- 5:25mid, jungler, or roamer is visible and
- 5:28your opponent's HP is low, [music]
- 5:30go for the kill. If the lane stays even,
- 5:34wait for your team to gank. The key to a
- 5:37successful gank is to freeze the wave
- 5:40near your turret. Still, your hero won't
- 5:43matter if you're ganked by four people.
- 5:46To avoid that, watch the mini map. If
- 5:49the enemy mid, jungler, and roamer
- 5:52disappears for too long, fall back to
- 5:55your inner turret. The biggest mistake
- 5:58you can make here is [music] to try to
- 6:00defend your turret. Just let them take
- 6:03the plating or even the turret itself as
- 6:06long as you stay alive. The same logic
- 6:09applies for the first turret. You don't
- 6:11need to join the fight. Stay safe in
- 6:14lane. The only time you should help the
- 6:17first turret is when you can participate
- 6:20without missing minions like when Chip
- 6:23teleports you there or if you're using
- 6:25Moskov and can use his ult. But, the
- 6:28second turret is different because it
- 6:30can spawn in either gold or XP lane. If
- 6:34it spawns in gold lane, you must help.
- 6:37So, don't die before the turret spawns.
- 6:40Clear your minions and move safely
- 6:42toward it. Your job is to deal as much
- 6:45damage as possible to the turret or
- 6:48enemies while staying alive. If it
- 6:51spawns in XP lane, refer back to the
- 6:54power spike guide. If your hero is
- 6:57strong early, you can help, but only
- 7:00after pushing your wave. If the enemy
- 7:02zones you so you can't push, skip the
- 7:05turret and just farm. If your hero is
- 7:08strong late game, don't help with the
- 7:11turret. Just push your lane instead. Be
- 7:14careful. One fatal mistake is
- 7:17overextending and getting solo killed.
- 7:20If that happens and your team loses the
- 7:22turret, they'll get tilted and the game
- 7:25will go very bad. So, your priority is
- 7:28to stay alive. By now, you've mastered
- 7:31gameplay up to minute five. But, in
- 7:34early game, you're just farming in the
- 7:36gold lane. It's different from the mid
- 7:38game when you'll have to start rotating.
- 7:41Your goal is actually still the same, to
- 7:44get as much gold as possible. But now,
- 7:47you have two options. If your hero has
- 7:50mobility like Moskov, Claude, or Wanwan,
- 7:53you can split push outer turrets that
- 7:56are still standing. If that's not
- 7:58possible, your task is to farm in lane.
- 8:01The best lane to take is mid because
- 8:04minions reach the center faster. But, if
- 8:07your mid laner doesn't let you, pick
- 8:09whichever lane that still has its outer
- 8:12turret intact. The key difference in mid
- 8:15game is the third turret. You must help
- 8:18take it, so follow these rules. Don't
- 8:21hit turret without your jungle. Don't
- 8:24show up on the map before turret spawns.
- 8:27Don't stay in a far lane before the
- 8:29fight. And don't take the buff when your
- 8:31team is already ready for war. The mid
- 8:34game is critical, but everything you've
- 8:37worked for will mean nothing if you
- 8:39don't understand the late game. In late
- 8:42game, gold lane macro is simple. Just
- 8:46clear waves on pushing lanes and catch
- 8:49enemy minion waves. But, as a gold
- 8:51laner, the most important rule is to
- 8:54never walk into the fog of war alone.
- 8:57You'll get ambushed. Always stay close
- 9:00to your team. Your job is to survive
- 9:03until the team fight because that's when
- 9:06you shine. In the fight, your job is not
- 9:08to dive or pick up enemies, rather to
- 9:11deal as much consistent damage as
- 9:14possible from a safe position, even if
- 9:17it's hitting tanks or fighters. And if
- 9:19you see a chance to target enemy damage
- 9:21dealers, make sure to capitalize on it.
