- 0:00Do you ever just see an artist who
- 0:01excels drawing in every single color?
- 0:08Unfortunately, that ain't me.
- 0:11But it is among. This level of variety,
- 0:14you're already my favorite. [ __ ] all
- 0:15vegetables. But then you double down and
- 0:18make fan arts of Mob Psycho in this
- 0:20economy, especially my boy Reigen.
- 0:30Oh, by the way, thank you to my
- 0:31Patreons. I have a lot of questions
- 0:33about art, full stop. I have a lot more
- 0:35questions about among's art. How did
- 0:38she? Who did she? Where did she? And why
- 0:40she not with me? And the answer is in my
- 0:42hand. It's the power of friendship. I
- 0:44went through 25 hours of among's art
- 0:46course in Coloso.
- 0:48But hey, it helped me create this
- 0:50illustration.
- 0:53And in this video, I'm going to tell you
- 0:55how she does what she does and how it
- 0:57helped me out creating my own art
- 0:59pieces.
- 1:01In the course, she talks about
- 1:02developing creative ideas and layouts,
- 1:04how color impacts illustration, and then
- 1:06she walks you through seven different
- 1:08artworks of seven different colors
- 1:10step-by-step, explaining how she picks
- 1:13the colors, placement of the colors, the
- 1:15abstracts, contrast, everything, and how
- 1:17each color changes her approach. All of
- 1:20which you can find in Coloso, the
- 1:22sponsor of this video. Coloso is a
- 1:24global learning platform offering
- 1:25in-depth classes taught by your favorite
- 1:28artist. I'm not kidding. You name the
- 1:29artist, they have it. Each Ann, Kidari
- 1:32Mimmy, Gwames, Rino Tuna. And you don't
- 1:35even want to get me started on the
- 1:36popular franchises these artists have
- 1:38worked on because the artists teaching
- 1:40on Coloso, they have worked on some huge
- 1:43titles. Coloso has your favorite artist
- 1:45giving out full-blown art courses on how
- 1:47they create their art. They have a good
- 1:48variety to choose from, illustration
- 1:50courses, editing, animation, V-tuber,
- 1:532D, 3D, comic classes. You can find
- 1:56classes covering things like character
- 1:57illustration, concept art, backgrounds,
- 1:59drawing fundamentals, and you know
- 2:01exactly what you will get in each of
- 2:03these courses cuz they will just tell
- 2:05you under each course there's a trailer,
- 2:08class detail, in-depth look about the
- 2:10artist, the curriculum, so that you know
- 2:11exactly what you will get. And these are
- 2:14like full-blown art courses going up to
- 2:17like 25 hours to 52 hours of class run
- 2:20time. So, if you're looking up to level
- 2:22up your art, check out Colosso.
- 2:24Colosso was kind enough to give a
- 2:25exclusive discount code for any of their
- 2:27classes, which you can find in the
- 2:29description. But, today we are here for
- 2:32a mong. Her approach to drawing is to
- 2:34draw what you like. Release that inner
- 2:36child. Draw what you like. But, I like
- 2:39tax fraud.
- 2:42But, where the [ __ ] do I put that in my
- 2:44art? And the thing is, it doesn't matter
- 2:46cuz if you look at her art, she be
- 2:48drawing anything she likes.
- 2:51In one art, there's a puzzle, CD, a
- 2:53plant. Do they have anything in common?
- 2:56[ __ ] no. She draws it cuz she wants to.
- 2:59Free will, people.
- 3:02Release the child. So, the props for
- 3:04your art is going to be one to three
- 3:06elements, and it can be anything you
- 3:08want to or like to draw, genuinely. Now,
- 3:11where do you place these elements?
- 3:13That's when you need
- 3:17I swear to God, every time I watch a
- 3:19Colosso class, I discover a new
- 3:21composition. Last time it was L
- 3:23composition. This time in a mong's
- 3:25class, she talks about flow-based
- 3:27composition. Flow?
- 3:30My tea flow? Flow-based composition
- 3:33looks like this. Curvy, flowy lines, and
- 3:37then you have your character. These
- 3:39curves create an illusion of 3D mass
- 3:41compared to just drawing a straight
- 3:43line. That is the theory, at least. And
- 3:45this is how you can use it in your art.
- 3:47We're going to draw the element in that
- 3:49flow. Example A, let's say you have a
- 3:52character and your element is tree and
- 3:55you pick this flow of direction for the
- 3:57composition. You're going to draw the
- 3:58tree and its branches to follow that
- 4:02flow.
- 4:13And your character will be in the
- 4:14center, so all the attention flows back
- 4:17to her. You can change her position or
- 4:19even make the character itself a part of
- 4:21the flow like this.
- 4:31But she also talks about the straight
- 4:33composition, which as it sounds it's
- 4:35straight lines. So instead of flow, it's
- 4:38straight. I will give you an example
- 4:40with the same elements.
- 4:42So place your character,
- 4:44tree is the element and we're going to
- 4:46draw it like this, straight.
- 4:59Another composition she talked about
- 5:01that stood out was the composition that
- 5:03draws focus. In this composition, we
- 5:05have our character. The elements are
- 5:07going to be positioned in a way that the
- 5:09attention is diverted towards the
- 5:12character. She calls it the focus
- 5:13composition, I call it the pick me
- 5:15composition.
- 5:17For example, a hair positioned in a way
- 5:20that the focus goes back to the
- 5:21character.
- 5:31Or a element scattered to revert the
- 5:33attention back to the character.
- 5:42So now we have a basic idea to how to
- 5:44approach our art piece. So let's lay it
- 5:47out before we move on to the colors. I
- 5:49obviously picked the flow composition. I
- 5:51picked only one element. Didn't want to
- 5:54do too much. I picked arms as the
- 5:56element.
- 6:02Now, the only thing we need is
- 6:08colors. As I said, she goes in depth
- 6:11about seven different colors and how to
- 6:13approach them. We cannot be doing all
- 6:15that, okay? So, I'm just going to talk
- 6:17about about one color. The main thing
- 6:18about her way of coloring is to pick one
- 6:21big mood color. And then there's 30%
- 6:23complementary color and then neutral
- 6:26shades.
- 6:28But, I will go step by step so we don't
- 6:30get confused. First, you have to decide
- 6:33what mood you want the piece to have. Is
- 6:34it calm, happy, dark?
- 6:39Whatever mood you want to depict, that's
- 6:40going to be the main color. I want to
- 6:42depict power. So, I'm going to pick red.
- 6:51And we're going to use a texture pen to
- 6:53apply the base color. A good texture pen
- 6:55is really important here. I'm going to
- 6:57use my own brush pack here. You can find
- 6:59the brush link in the description. The
- 7:01next step is to apply colors that are
- 7:03around your base mood color to create
- 7:07some variety. So, in my case, that would
- 7:09be some oranges and yellows.
- 7:14Make sure the surrounding colors you
- 7:16pick are in similar brightness and
- 7:18saturation to our base color cuz right
- 7:20now the goal is to create variety, not
- 7:23depth. Now, we're going to add a point
- 7:25color. Think of this as an accent color
- 7:27that we use sparingly, usually taking
- 7:30around 10 to 30% of the entire piece. It
- 7:33helps break up the dominant color and
- 7:35gives your eyes somewhere else to look.
- 7:37So, you're controlling where you want
- 7:38the audience to look at. The main color
- 7:40is the first thing they will notice,
- 7:42then their eyes will automatically go
- 7:44towards this accent colors. She uses
- 7:46complimentary colors for the accent
- 7:48colors. Complimentary colors is
- 7:49basically colors opposite in the color
- 7:52wheel.
- 7:53So, in my case, opposite to red color in
- 7:56the wheel would be blue. I'm going to
- 7:58add that blue to her coat.
- 8:04Then I'm just going to color her other
- 8:05features with the same color closer to
- 8:07the base color.
- 8:14Then she goes on to add some neutral
- 8:16tones to the colors to lower the
- 8:18intensity of the piece. You can find
- 8:20your neutral colors here.
- 8:30Now we are going to concentrate on
- 8:31increasing the contrast between the
- 8:33light shades and the darker shades. I
- 8:35want the background to be darker and her
- 8:37face to be lighter so that they have a
- 8:39good contrast. So, now I'm going to go
- 8:41ahead and increase that contrast by
- 8:43increasing the dark shades in the
- 8:45background and lighter shades in her
- 8:47face.
- 9:05So, that's how a mangi picks the colors
- 9:07and places the colors. From here, it's
- 9:10just render and refining the details so
- 9:12I will just let the speed paint play.
- 11:00>> And that's the final piece.
- 11:05I kept it really simple. I basically
- 11:07took one element from each of her tips
- 11:09and applied that to create this. In the
- 11:11course, she goes through six other color
- 11:13approaches and explains how you can work
- 11:15with each of them. So, there's a lot
- 11:17more to explore. I genuinely found her
- 11:19course really helpful. I would say a lot
- 11:21of courses on Coloso are really well put
- 11:23together. So, if you're interested, I
- 11:25would definitely recommend checking them
- 11:26out. Bye-bye.
