I Manifested $300m By Pretending I Was Rich When I Was Poor — Transcript

- 0:00Since 2003, I've built six companies,
- 0:02I've sold three for 300 million. Doesn't
- 0:04make me Jeff Bezos or or
- 0:06or Google or anything like that, but
- 0:07it's a pretty good result. When we use
- 0:09our imagination well, we do so from a
- 0:11perspective of familiarity. So, it's
- 0:13hard to imagine something we we have no
- 0:16concept of. It's vague. You know, it's
- 0:18easy to imagine when we know exactly
- 0:20what the thing we imagine is like. So,
- 0:22if we want to go on a world cruise, it's
- 0:24easier to imagine a world cruise if we
- 0:26actually visit a cruise ship and go on
- 0:27an open day on a cruise ship and walk
- 0:28around. It's harder to imagine if we
- 0:30just stand on the dock and watch a
- 0:31cruise ship. Although that's still
- 0:33helpful. It's even harder to imagine if
- 0:35we just sit at home and look at a cruise
- 0:36magazine, but that still helps. It's
- 0:38even more harder if we just simply sit
- 0:40in the chair and try to imagine it
- 0:42having never read the magazine or been
- 0:43to a dock or been on an actual cruise
- 0:45liner, okay? So, so the more familiar,
- 0:47the more specific we can get with that
- 0:49thing that we want, then the easier it
- 0:51is to imagine. And the easier it is to
- 0:53imagine, the quicker it shows up. So,
- 0:55what we do is we window shop. And so,
- 0:57for instance, if you want a house on the
- 0:59beach, you have to know what that feels
- 1:01like. And so, it's easy. You just go and
- 1:02visit an open house on the beach, and
- 1:04you touch everything, and you smell
- 1:05everything, and you talk to the realtor,
- 1:07and you sense the you you hear
- 1:09everything, and you just feel like you
- 1:11you imagine yourself living there. And
- 1:13that fires up your imagination to a
- 1:15really high level. We need at the same
- 1:17time, you you know, you have to live
- 1:18that lifestyle, you need to sample the
- 1:20best restaurants for their atmosphere.
- 1:22You need to experience flying first
- 1:23class. You need to ignore the thrift
- 1:25stores, never do coupon deals, avoid
- 1:27holiday sales, because you want to
- 1:29change your mentality to be able to be
- 1:30financially independent. When you're
- 1:32financially independent, you don't go to
- 1:33those things. You just don't, cuz you
- 1:35don't need to. So, in short, we need to
- 1:37be creative to find ways to get to know
- 1:39the feel of the lifestyle that we've
- 1:41chosen to have. So, you get to window
- 1:44shop to fuel your imagination. It's just
- 1:46simply window shopping. It does take
- 1:49courage, but it delivers in multiples.
- 1:51So, Sunday afternoon for me is window
- 1:53shopping, no matter what. It's
- 1:54exhilarating. First time it's terrifying
- 1:57typically, at least for me, and after
- 1:58that it's just exhilarating.
- 2:00>> And not everybody's window shopping.
- 2:02Some people haven't even started, and
- 2:04I'm shocked. And the shock is not um
- 2:06because people should have started and
- 2:08they haven't started. The shock is that
- 2:09I haven't been explicit enough
- 2:11uh in explaining the essential nature of
- 2:15window shopping. Window shopping isn't
- 2:17an option. It's not something that you
- 2:18wish you could do, but you don't you're
- 2:20a little bit too shy at the moment. You
- 2:21don't want to do it. Maybe you'll do it
- 2:22later. You will not achieve a single
- 2:25intention unless you window shop because
- 2:27it's about how things feel. When you can
- 2:30feel a day in the life, when you can
- 2:32truly feel it, it becomes yours. When
- 2:34you imagine it, but don't feel it
- 2:36because you don't you haven't exposed
- 2:37yourself to the actual experiences, it's
- 2:39going to always elude you. This isn't an
- 2:41option. This is a tool and technique
- 2:42that you have to get down pat. Now, I
- 2:45know how hard it is, and I know how much
- 2:47courage it takes because I've been
- 2:48there. I remember the first time I ever
- 2:51had the courage to go into a hotel. I
- 2:52was 18 and had never been in a hotel.
- 2:55And and I had the courage, and I planned
- 2:57it, and I thought I honestly thought
- 2:58that the the doorman was going to trip
- 3:00me up and throw me out because I didn't
- 3:02belong, right? What right did I have to
- 3:04be in this hotel?
- 3:05And so I made myself climb the steps. It
- 3:07was a big fancy hotel, and I was waiting
- 3:09for the interrogation by the doorman,
- 3:11you know, I assumed he'd say, "What are
- 3:13you doing?" Because I I assumed that he
- 3:15would look at me and think, "Oh, he
- 3:16doesn't deserve to be here." But no, he
- 3:17just opened the door.
- 3:19And I went straight in, and I was so
- 3:20intimidated I walked straight through
- 3:22the lobby, down the corridor past some
- 3:24of the the ballrooms, and straight out
- 3:26the back door and into the into the
- 3:27parking lot. I didn't I didn't see
- 3:29anything, do anything,
- 3:31but I got that first one out of the way,
- 3:33and that was so important. So, now I'd
- 3:35learned, okay, the doorman opens the
- 3:36door for you. He's not going to stop
- 3:38you. So, then the next time then it
- 3:39wasn't that same day, it was on another
- 3:41occasion. Then the next time I went more
- 3:43slowly, the doorman opened the door, and
- 3:45I stopped in the lobby, and I looked
- 3:46around as if I was looking for a friend,
- 3:48and then I noticed the coffee shop, and
- 3:50then I noticed the lounge and people
- 3:52just hanging out. And I walked around
- 3:54and again went out the back door
- 3:56straight into the parking lot, but I'd
- 3:57slowed down and then like third or
- 3:59fourth time, you know, I had the courage
- 4:01to go and sit down and order a coffee
- 4:02and that's what it takes. It takes
- 4:04courage. I have um it you've you've got
- 4:07to do it. There's there's no easy pass
- 4:09to this.
- 4:10>> So everybody needs a starting point. So
- 4:12if any of this resonates with you
- 4:14watching this or listening to this, the
- 4:16foundation is three simple steps, a book
- 4:18I wrote in 2012. It has all the basic
- 4:21tools you need to completely change your
- 4:24life into a new trajectory tomorrow.
- 4:26Just read the book once and the tools
- 4:27are there.
- 4:28>> So if in your intentions you have, you
- 4:30know, your super car and your fancy
- 4:32house on the beach and
- 4:33traveling first class and or private and
- 4:35then and you know, going through Europe
- 4:37and all it whatever it may be, whatever
- 4:38is in your intention, you've got to
- 4:40expose yourself to each one of those
- 4:42parameters, each one of those events,
- 4:43each one of those bits of material. You
- 4:45have to know what it feels like, what it
- 4:47smells like, what the sounds are like,
- 4:49uh what the atmosphere, the energy.
- 4:51You've got to understand what it's like
- 4:53in order to build a mini mind movie
- 4:55that's going to work. And I thought I
- 4:57had taught this and I realized now
- 4:58actually I don't talk about this very
- 4:59much at all and so as as all the great
- 5:03teachers will say, it's not your
- 5:04responsibility to learn, it's my
- 5:06responsibility to teach.
- 5:08So if you don't get this yet, that's my
- 5:10fault and I take it on and that's why
- 5:11I'm doing this podcast. So I'm I'm going
- 5:13to say to you I'm not encouraging you
- 5:15and I'm not suggesting and I'm not
- 5:16offering advice, I'm telling you
- 5:18directly you have to shop. You have to
- 5:22window shop.
- 5:23You've got to go in, you've got to pluck
- 5:25up the courage, take a deep breath,
- 5:27swallow,
- 5:28put your chest up, head up high and walk
- 5:31into the fancy hotel or walk into the
- 5:33dealership or walk into the open houses
- 5:35on the beach. And and although you'll
- 5:37feel like a fraud at first
- 5:39uh and you might be uncomfortable,
- 5:40you'll slowly settle into it and you'll
- 5:42slowly realize that you know what,
- 5:44everybody else who's here, they don't
- 5:46they don't they can't afford to stay
- 5:47here either. You know, the people who
- 5:48can afford to stay here, they're
- 5:49probably in their hotel rooms and
- 5:50they're probably they've already bought
- 5:52their cars or whatever. You just have to
- 5:54get used to the environment. And you do
- 5:57it with all these things that are part
- 5:58of your mini mind movie, whatever that
- 6:01may be. So,
- 6:02you know, in in my in my case it was
- 6:04fancy hotels and fancy restaurants that
- 6:06I really couldn't afford, but I would
- 6:07find a reason to go in and sit at the
- 6:09bar and have a half a half glass of beer
- 6:11or something.
- 6:13Open houses, you know, I got the courage
- 6:15It was really intimidating first cuz the
- 6:17the beautiful open houses are typically
- 6:18behind gates and they have security
- 6:20guards who who have guns. And so, it's
- 6:22really intimidating first, but then the
- 6:24very first time that Len and I had the
- 6:26courage to go to the $5 open house that
- 6:28we really liked and that we'd seen
- 6:29online and we wanted to go to it. Yeah,
- 6:31there was a guard there. He had the
- 6:33uniform on, security guard and
- 6:34everything. And I don't know whether he
- 6:35had any gun or not, but he he had his
- 6:37pockets look quite full. I had my speech
- 6:39ready to justify why we were there that
- 6:41day. And he talked to me and he was
- 6:43Scouse. He had He had the Liverpool
- 6:44accent. And we just And we And straight
- 6:46away And we were off talking about
- 6:47Liverpool and then of course he said,
- 6:48"Hey, go and enjoy yourself." I was
- 6:49like,
- 6:50"Um I'm just saying that you just need
- 6:52the courage and life will fill in the
- 6:53details for you. Life will not make it
- 6:55difficult.
- 6:56Life will not make this a challenge for
- 6:58you. The challenge is in your head. And
- 7:00once you overcome the nervousness and
- 7:03you make yourself do it, life will point
- 7:05out, "See how easy this is? See how nice
- 7:07people are? See how kind they are to
- 7:09you?" And it's just it it becomes a
- 7:10really good experience. In the
- 7:13Facebook group, Shawn Morrissey I think
- 7:15started this conversation and he was
- 7:17saying a similar story how intimidated
- 7:19he was the first time that he was sat in
- 7:21a in a hotel. He thought he was bound to
- 7:23get thrown out, you know, probably
- 7:24beaten up or something. That's how it
- 7:26feels the first time. I understand that.
- 7:28But you're just going to get through
- 7:29that first time. Now, he treats hotels
- 7:31like he would his own lounge, as I do. I
- 7:33places to hang out, places to meet.
- 7:35I have my own I have my own coffee that
- 7:37I I have shipped to me. Um
- 7:40and it's really the only coffee that I
- 7:41like. it's a really healthy coffee. So,
- 7:43so I typically just make my coffee. But
- 7:45if I was to have a coffee out, the last
- 7:47place I would have it would be in a
- 7:48chain store. I mean, I don't think the
- 7:50price of a coffee in something like a
- 7:51Starbucks is going to be that different
- 7:53to the price in a five-star hotel. And I
- 7:55can tell you, I can guarantee that the
- 7:56coffee in a five-star hotel is going to
- 7:58be a lot better quality and taste a lot
- 7:59better and be prepared with love
- 8:02and uh served with finesse. And so, I
- 8:04would I can't understand why people say,
- 8:06"I need to go for a Starbucks." I'd say,
- 8:08"Go to
- 8:09a five-star hotel and order a coffee and
- 8:11you could at least you get it served in
- 8:12a proper cup, for goodness sake, and a
- 8:14in a nice environment. And while you're
- 8:15there, you can take in the beautiful
- 8:17artwork, the wonderful flower displays,
- 8:20the the architecture of the place, the
- 8:22history, the smell of it. And and you
- 8:24can do all of that just having a coffee
- 8:26in the lobby of a or or in the next to
- 8:28the lobby in in a fancy hotel.
- 8:31But most people will say, "I just need a
- 8:32coffee, I'll go to Starbucks." And
- 8:34completely miss the point of window
- 8:36shopping.
- 8:37And so, if you're one of those, please
- 8:38please listen to what I'm saying. You've
- 8:40got to change your approach.
- 8:42You've got to say, "Okay, so right,
- 8:43today I've decided today is the day that
- 8:46I'm going out for dinner, okay?" And so,
- 8:48typically you I don't know what your
- 8:49dinner would be, but let's say, you
- 8:50know,
- 8:51me and my wife or me and my husband or
- 8:53me and my family, where I would we
- 8:54typically go out and we have a pizza,
- 8:56okay? And there's nothing wrong with
- 8:57that. That's great fun. It's a great
- 8:58family thing to do, but it's not going
- 8:59to get you to the next level. So, you
- 9:01have to think about that and you say,
- 9:02"Okay, here's the budget that I would
- 9:03normally spend on just going for pizza.
- 9:05What I'll do instead is we'll get a
- 9:06pizza in and, you know, we'll we'll save
- 9:08like 10, 20% to that. And with that 10,
- 9:1120%, I'm just going to take my partner
- 9:13out for a coffee in a fancy hotel or a
- 9:15beer in a fancy hotel. I'm just going to
- 9:16we're just going to sit at the bar for
- 9:17an hour. We're going to make this drink
- 9:19last an hour." And I can guarantee you
- 9:21all kinds of magic will happen.
- 9:23And I I look forward to you describing,
- 9:26"You won't believe what happened."
- 9:27Because I will, because I've done it.
- 9:29I remember specifically going through
- 9:31this mental process. I've got X amount
- 9:33of money. We're not going to go and
- 9:34spend it on a cheap meal somewhere uh in
- 9:36in a crap place.
- 9:38We're going to go to the bar and we're
- 9:40just going to sit and we're going to
- 9:41have a drink and I remember Lynn had a
- 9:43she only ever drank Pinot Grigio, which
- 9:45I don't even consider alcohol, but but
- 9:47she but anyway, she has a Pinot Grigio
- 9:49and I've got a beer, just a small beer.
- 9:51And we sat there and of course, someone
- 9:53comes and sits next to us, we start
- 9:54talking. The synchronicity was almost
- 9:56unbelievable. It was like it was a like
- 9:58God had planted somebody right next to
- 9:59us who who really needed to be in a
- 10:01light right now. And this guy loved us
- 10:03and the next thing he's buying us
- 10:05drinks. And we end up having two or
- 10:06three drinks at his expense and he pays
- 10:08for our bill and everything. We, you
- 10:10know, he gives me his card. We we pat we
- 10:11pat each other on the back and off we
- 10:13go. Wonderful experiences come out of
- 10:15doing window shopping. But they don't
- 10:17come out of just saying I fancy a
- 10:18coffee, I'll go to Starbucks. Or um you
- 10:21know, we've got enough money for
- 10:22something to eat, let's take the whole
- 10:23family out for pizza. As nice as that is
- 10:25to do, that's not going to create the
- 10:28synchronicity you need. You need to put
- 10:30yourself into a
- 10:31uncomfortable position. The same thing
- 10:33happens in dealerships when you go to
- 10:34the fancy car dealership and but you you
- 10:37go in with the attitude first of all, I
- 10:38don't belong, no one's going to talk to
- 10:40you. When you go in thinking that this
- 10:41car's mine one day and I'm just pulling
- 10:43it to me right now
- 10:45and you've gone in with a little bit of
- 10:46pre-knowledge. So you've gone onto the
- 10:47internet, you've looked at you know
- 10:48everything there is to know about this
- 10:49car. You I mean, why would you go into a
- 10:51dealership and not know everything about
- 10:52the car if it's the car you want. So you
- 10:54go in and you ask a couple of questions
- 10:56of the sales guy. Is this the one with
- 10:58the such and such, you know, whatever
- 10:59the engine is you're looking at. Is is
- 11:02this is this this version or is this
- 11:03last year's version? You just start a
- 11:05conversation and before you know it,
- 11:07you've got a best friend for life. This
- 11:08is window shopping. So it's it's not
- 11:11it's 90% window shopping is about
- 11:13feeling comfortable and feeling your
- 11:16future now and 10% is kind of the
- 11:19synchronicity that that kicks off that
- 11:21will blow your mind away.
- 11:23So en- enough lecturing, enough enough
- 11:25um preaching. I just I was a bit shocked
- 11:28that people aren't even window shopping
- 11:29and I'm sorry, I apologize I haven't
- 11:31picked up on this before. So, please
- 11:33jump in on the conversation and get into
- 11:34Facebook. Don't don't be crazy about
- 11:36this. Just get into Facebook and share
- 11:38with your wizardry colleagues anything
- 11:40that you feel like sharing or just hang
- 11:42out and get the energy. It's a good
- 11:43thing to do. That's number one. And
- 11:45number two, please start the window
- 11:47shopping and feel free to share You
- 11:48don't have to, but feel free to share
- 11:50your experiences because they're
- 11:51typically amazing and funny.
- 11:53Um I've never had a bad experience doing
- 11:55it. And I still get nervous, by the way.
- 11:57I was just last week I was down in Key
- 11:58West, one of my favorite places on the
- 12:00whole of this planet. And I would look
- 12:03at There's a There's an island for sale.
- 12:05It's owned at 50 million. And then I was
- 12:07I'm seriously thinking about something
- 12:09like that. And but it took a lot of
- 12:11courage because that's a significant
- 12:12amount of cash.
- 12:14Um you know, you don't get mortgages for
- 12:15private islands, at least I don't think
- 12:17you do. So So it's a significant amount
- 12:19of cash and and it takes courage to, you
- 12:21know,
- 12:21to get to that island and use up a whole
- 12:23day of somebody of the of the broker's
- 12:25time in order to figure out what to do
- 12:28with this island and how it's going to
- 12:29work and everything. Takes courage,
- 12:31always.
- 12:32Um but it starts off with that very
- 12:33first one, which is getting into a hotel
- 12:35lobby or getting into a dealership or
- 12:37something like that.
- 12:38So, I hope this is useful. Please please
- 12:40please start the window shopping. You
- 12:42will not achieve your intentions without
- 12:44it. Have a great week. Make a positive
- 12:45difference in someone's life. Maybe, you
- 12:47know what? Pick someone in the
- 12:49dealership or in a fancy restaurant or
- 12:50something and make a difference in their
- 12:52life because they can't afford to live
- 12:53or to buy those cars and they can't
- 12:55afford to eat in that restaurant,
- 12:56either. They're work- They're working
- 12:57there. And so you can uplift these
- 12:59people and and you'll have as a result.
- 13:02So, make a positive difference in
- 13:04someone's life. Have fun doing it.
- 13:06Cuz this is all fun.
- 13:08And share in all the rewards, material
- 13:09and otherwise, they come naturally as a
- 13:11result of setting the energy in flow.
- 13:13>> A quick interruption for a crucial
- 13:15message. Over the next 12 months, we're
- 13:17going to select 33 people based on
- 13:19ambition and the ability to work with
- 13:21energies and consciousness to be
- 13:24a mentee of Trevor and I'll help
- 13:27to apply what he teaches. This will give
- 13:30you all the knowledge and all the
- 13:32accountability and tracking you need to
- 13:34be the
- 13:35the person you want to become.
