- 0:16can find a way to bring the highlights
- 0:19of each together in a sort of matrimony,
- 0:22then you may find yourself with
- 0:24something quite unique and impressive.

- 0:40the description below. Let's look at the
- 0:43computer together, and you'll be able to
- 0:45see what I see. These are the original
- 0:48photos of a bathroom which Doug reached
- 0:50out to me to have redesigned. This area
- 0:53has not changed since he purchased the
- 0:55home. He wanted to accomplish two things
- 0:58in this redesign. Having a space that
- 1:00felt more personalized to him. And as he
- 1:02looks towards the future, creating a
- 1:04space that would be unique and appealing
- 1:06to buyers if and when he decides to sell
- 1:10in a few years. If you pay close
- 1:12attention, you'll notice that those
- 1:14specific two desires can lead you into a
- 1:18bit of a conundrum. Overly personalized
- 1:20spaces, although wonderful for the
- 1:22person who styled them, they can become
- 1:24ostracizing when attempting to advertise
- 1:27the home on the open market. We needed
- 1:29to find a way to hone his style into an
- 1:32image which anyone could appreciate
- 1:35walking into. Doug has many interests,
- 1:38likes, appreciations, and hobbies, which
- 1:40we discussed a lot of them. And although
- 1:42we may be able to incorporate most or
- 1:44all of those into a full home styling,
- 1:47the bathroom alone is simply not large
- 1:50enough to support all of them. So after
- 1:53speaking to him, we narrowed it down to
- 1:54these ideas becoming the pillars of the
- 1:58design. The first one was at its
- 2:00foundation industrial styling. To add
- 2:03sophistication, class, and pop culture,
- 2:05we wanted this bathroom to resemble
- 2:07something you might find in the
- 2:09Continental Hotel of the John Wick
- 2:12movies with Kiana Reeves. And finally,
- 2:14to personalize the space, incorporating
- 2:16art with origins in Renaissance,
- 2:19medieval times, or
- 2:21mythology. Here is what we came up
- 2:24with. I was so happy with the way that
- 2:27this turned out, and it was quite fun to
- 2:29create. It wasn't straightforward. It
- 2:31was a process of evolution, a chess
- 2:34match of moving styles and their
- 2:36presence in order to find the right
- 2:38blend for this design. It was much like
- 2:40discovering the correct recipe for a
- 2:42meal. Too much or too little of any one
- 2:46thing could ruin the entirety of it. The
- 2:49main living space of the home as well as
- 2:51the building is is located in um that
- 2:54the condo this is a condo unit which it
- 2:55is located in has a lot of exposed
- 2:57brick. However, this bathroom had none.
- 3:01By bringing in a faux brick shower tile,
- 3:04we were able to kill two birds with one
- 3:05stone, accomplishing the industrial base
- 3:08to the design scheme we wanted while
- 3:11infusing elements that are located
- 3:13outside of the bathroom. Roughly 9
- 3:16months ago, I published a video on
- 3:18YouTube about creating retro bathrooms.
- 3:20Essentially, this was a play on 1950s
- 3:24bathrooms and reinventing them to have a
- 3:26more chic look. That's where the
- 3:28flooring in this bathroom comes from.
- 3:30It's a pattern and a style which
- 3:32provides a vintage feel. Taking notes
- 3:34from the past just as an art buff would
- 3:37appreciate. It also did a great job of
- 3:40balancing the room since we used dark
- 3:42and bold color scheme at eye level. We
- 3:45had both white on the flooring as well
- 3:47as the ceiling to balance that out. A
- 3:50small but what I would consider
- 3:52impactful change is that we switched the
- 3:55toilet seat from white to black. You
- 3:58wouldn't think this would matter much,
- 3:59but when you look at the photos side by
- 4:01side, you realize that this
- 4:03inconspicuous item carries a powerful
- 4:06punch in the design. Storage can be
- 4:09quite difficult in small bathrooms, and
- 4:11oftentimes people wind up spreading
- 4:14their toiletries all over the counter
- 4:16and open shelving, displaying nothing
- 4:19but disarray. So, we included a tall
- 4:22black shelving unit as the resolve for
- 4:24this issue. Not only does it have the
- 4:26capacity to carry a lot, the black color
- 4:29allows it to fade into the background
- 4:31without feeling so obtrusive in the
- 4:35space that it takes up. The metal
- 4:37toiletry stand that you see uh to the
- 4:40left of the vanity goes back to our
- 4:42industrial base. It's perfect uh as a
- 4:45complement to the brick tile that we put
- 4:47in the shower. The floating vanity
- 4:50paired with the LED mirror was to bring
- 4:51the modern and elegant feel into the
- 4:54bathroom. We didn't want to go too far
- 4:56in the direction of vintage or
- 4:59industrial. So, this assists in the
- 5:02balance of styles and the overall look
- 5:05to the room. Originally, the vanity in
- 5:07the bathroom was not tall enough. It
- 5:09resulted what that results in is a
- 5:12person having to bend over their sink
- 5:15and reach their hands into the into the
- 5:19water at an awkward angle. Inevitably,
- 5:22this leads to splashing water all over
- 5:24the counter surface, and Doug was having
- 5:26an issue with that. It's a small
- 5:29annoyance, but when it persistently
- 5:31occurs, it can carry the nuisance of
- 5:34anat. So, we decided to go with a vessel
- 5:37sink, which is the term for a sink uh
- 5:40that sits above the countertop. Problem
- 5:43solved. Of course, we cannot ignore the
- 5:46largest and most prominent statement
- 5:48piece that was placed in the bathroom. I
- 5:51was able to find a painting that I felt
- 5:53wonderfully blended mythology and
- 5:56romanticism. We were able to take this
- 5:59and convert it into a wallpaper. The
- 6:01name of this painting is the Wild Hunt
- 6:04of Odin. Originally, it was created by
- 6:06an artist named Peter Nikolai Arbo in
- 6:091872. The scene is based on Viking and
- 6:13Norse mythology, and it represents the
- 6:15folklore of Thor leading a hunting party
- 6:19across the dark skies. What better
- 6:22material uh could you have to
- 6:24incorporate some dark and moody vibes
- 6:26into this bathroom? You have now seen an
- 6:29example of a path to creating an art
- 6:32infused industrial chic bathroom. If you
- 6:36like the video, hit the thumbs up. If
- 6:38you feel like sticking around a while,
- 6:40feel free to subscribe. See.
