I FINALLY Found The BEST NVIDIA Driver (+20% FPS) — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Nvidia shipped a few new drivers since
- 0:01last month, and my subscribers kept
- 0:03asking me which one is actually the best
- 0:05for their GPU. So, here's my updated
- 0:07list of the top three best Nvidia
- 0:09drivers. I'll show you what each one
- 0:10fixes, what's still broken, which one
- 0:12fixes DLSS5, and the free Nvidia app
- 0:15switches that give you more performance
- 0:16and stability on any of them. And
- 0:18honestly, some of Nvidia's drivers have
- 0:20been full of problems. Nvidia already
- 0:22had to push a hot fix for browser
- 0:23[music] flicker. And people still hit
- 0:24the same bugs after the fixes get
- 0:26listed. If you're subscribed to my
- 0:27channel, you already saw my comments
- 0:29full of your problem reports, sometimes
- 0:31even bugs Nvidia said it fixed. So,
- 0:33let's start with benchmarks. I played
- 0:34all three drivers on my own rig in
- 0:36multiple games, multiple runs each. And
- 0:38here are the two best examples to show
- 0:39how bad the situation is. Doom: The Dark
- 0:41Ages first. The May Driver averages 49
- 0:44FPS 92 50.14
- 0:48again. In the worst moments, the May
- 0:49Driver and 14 both hold 40 and 0.92 dips
- 0:53to 38. Now, Cyberpunk 2077. The May
- 0:55driver averages 51 and 0.92 gets 50.14
- 0:59gets 49. In the worst moments, the two
- 1:01older drivers hold 37 and.14 gets 36. So
- 1:05all three sit within 2 FPS of each
- 1:07other. That's basically nothing. Thank
- 1:09you Nvidia for such a massive FPS boost.
- 1:11So FPS isn't a reason to pick one of
- 1:13them. What matters is what people ran
- 1:15into on each one. So let's go through
- 1:16them. The first driver on the list, last
- 1:18month's driver, 0.92. It's a game ready
- 1:21driver with three fixes, zero of them
- 1:23for games. Its own release notes list
- 1:25three open issues like Assassin's Creed
- 1:27Shadows crashing to desktop and the
- 1:28Judgment games not launching at all. The
- 1:30big fix on it was browser flicker and
- 1:32people still see that flicker in Edge
- 1:34and in Chrome. In Doom and Indiana
- 1:36Jones, both Vulcan games, someone says
- 1:38VSSync with G-Sync locks his FPS at one
- 1:40number and that it's been broken for
- 1:42several drivers now, but plenty of dudes
- 1:44are totally fine on it on 50 series and
- 1:4640 series cards alike. So 0.92 is the
- 1:48driver a lot of you already have. And on
- 1:50chunk of those PCs, it runs fine. And
- 1:52the newest driver, point4, has black
- 1:54screens in the reports, but also a fix
- 1:56people actually confirmed. 14 is game
- 1:59ready for Control Resonant, Gears of
- 2:00War, Eday, The Witcher 3 Remastered, and
- 2:03ion 2. It lists three fixes and only one
- 2:05open issue, but since installing it, a
- 2:07few people get random black screens and
- 2:09flicker, mostly on 50 series cards. One
- 2:11Fortnite enjoyer still gets driver
- 2:13crashes, and he went back to an older
- 2:15driver again. So much for updating for
- 2:16the new games. I filmed my whole
- 2:18previous Envy UV video on 14. So, if you
- 2:21undervolt with NVUV, listen up. As I
- 2:23said in that video, when Game Re replay,
- 2:25NVUV's crash autofix is on, every driver
- 2:28crash cuts that game's clock by one
- 2:30step. So, the game keeps running slower
- 2:32long after the bug is fixed. The fix for
- 2:34monitors that won't wake from sleep is
- 2:35on the list, but one owner screen still
- 2:37stays black after sleep. And that Doom
- 2:39and Indiana Jones FPS lock isn't fixed
- 2:41here either. And the bug where the
- 2:43prefer maximum performance setting
- 2:45doesn't apply simply vanished from the
- 2:46open list with no fixed line anywhere.
- 2:49Forcing maximum performance is bad
- 2:50advice anyway. But deleting a bug from
- 2:52the list without fixing it, typical
- 2:54Nvidia experience. Assassin's Creed
- 2:56Shadows still crashes here, too. But the
- 2:58good stuff is real. A few Samsung
- 3:00Odyssey G95NC owners confirmed their
- 3:03monitors finally work again over HDMI,
- 3:05and the Judgment games that wouldn't
- 3:07launch are listed as fixed, too. Other
- 3:08people played a whole week on.14 with no
- 3:11issues at all. So.14 is the one with
- 3:13[music] the support for new games, and
- 3:14also the one with the fresh black
- 3:16screens. And if both of those scare you,
- 3:18there's a third option, the old May
- 3:19driver 596.49.
- 3:22It's an older driver game ready for
- 3:23Fortza Horizon 6 with two fixes and zero
- 3:26open issues. One of those fixes is
- 3:28supposed to make frame generation with
- 3:30VSync smoother. It also already has
- 3:31Nvidia's May security fixes, so it's
- 3:34still safe to use. People who've been on
- 3:35it since May say they've had zero
- 3:37issues. A few 40 series users even call
- 3:39it the only stable driver so far, but
- 3:41the May driver isn't perfect either.
- 3:43Some 50 series users got black screens
- 3:45on their monitors. And in Doom and
- 3:47Indiana Jones, frame generation still
- 3:49feels uneven on it. So that smoothness
- 3:51fix doesn't work in those two games. It
- 3:53also has no game ready support for
- 3:54anything that came out after May. Still,
- 3:56it's the only one of the three with zero
- 3:58open issues. Now, an important notice
- 4:00about DLSS5 because one of these three
- 4:03can't run it at all. Official DLSS5
- 4:05needs driver 66.64
- 4:08or newer. So 0.92 and.14 both run it and
- 4:11the May [music] driver doesn't.
- 4:12Officially, it's for 50 series, and an
- 4:14Nvidia spokesperson says they plan to
- 4:15bring it to 40 series. Older cards run
- 4:17it through the DLSS5 mods, and on 20 and
- 4:2030 series, that costs about half your
- 4:22FPS, and every new driver can break
- 4:24those mods. Mod versions 4.6 and 4.7
- 4:27fail on every driver since 64. DLSS5
- 4:31Autopilot, the free app that installs
- 4:33it, recommends an older version that
- 4:34still works. And the newest mod versions
- 4:36work on 142. Honestly, that's annoying.
- 4:39I ran Cyberpunk with DLSS5 on point4
- 4:42myself and it works fine. And if a game
- 4:44crashes with DLSS5 after a driver
- 4:46update, turn the mod off first before
- 4:48you blame the driver. So, which driver
- 4:50belongs on your card? If you're on 0.92
- 4:52and your games run fine, stay on it.
- 4:54Same if you're still on 888 and happy,
- 4:56stay there. If you play one of the new
- 4:57game ready games or want the Judgment
- 4:59games to launch, install.14 [music]
- 5:01DLSS5, 0.92 is my pick. If your FPS in
- 5:05Doom or Indiana Jones gets stuck at one
- 5:07number, your browser flickers, or
- 5:08Assassin's Creed Shadows or Hitman crash
- 5:10on you, go to the May Driver. On the May
- 5:12Driver, turn frame generation off in
- 5:14those two games. If your black screens
- 5:16started with 14, go back to 0.92. To
- 5:19switch, grab the installer from Nvidia's
- 5:21own driver page. Wipe the old driver
- 5:23with DDU, the clean driver remover, and
- 5:25install it clean. Envy UV users. After
- 5:27any driver switch, rightclick replay,
- 5:29open show replay adjustments, and click
- 5:31clear all. And don't switch for FPS
- 5:33alone. 16 series up to 50, the picks are
- 5:36the same. Only DLSS5 depends on your
- 5:38card. And on a 10 series card, your
- 5:40driver is the security one Nvidia made
- 5:42for it, 582.66.
- 5:44And if you'd rather know which of
- 5:45Nvidia's drivers are safe and which ones
- 5:47will [music] nuke your PC, subscribe
- 5:49because I install every new driver on my
- 5:51own rig before I tell you anything. And
- 5:53once you've picked your driver, five
- 5:54free switches in the Nvidia app give you
- 5:56more performance and [music] less input
- 5:58lag. No paid tool needed. I'd start with
- 6:00resizable bar because it probably gives
- 6:02you more FPS in games Nvidia never added
- 6:05to its list. On auto, the driver only
- 6:07opens your card's full memory to games
- 6:09on that list, so every other game
- 6:10probably loads textures slower. Open the
- 6:12Nvidia app, click graphics, click
- 6:14program settings, and pick your game.
- 6:16Under driver settings, find resizable
- 6:18bar and set it [music] to enabled. The
- 6:20row now reads enabled, not auto. Nvidia
- 6:22picks the games, not you. Funny how that
- 6:24works. If one game loses FPS with it,
- 6:26set that game back to auto. Now, a
- 6:28switch for a little more performance in
- 6:30all your games at once. It cuts extra
- 6:32texture work your eye never sees with no
- 6:34difference you'd notice on screen. Click
- 6:35[music] global settings. Scroll down
- 6:37under driver settings and click show
- 6:38legacy settings. Find texture filtering,
- 6:41anisotropic sample optimization, and set
- 6:43it to on. That row now says on. If far
- 6:45away floors start to shimmer in your
- 6:47games, go back to this row and set it to
- 6:49off. And this next one [music] means
- 6:50fewer frame drops right after you switch
- 6:52drivers. After every driver update, your
- 6:54games rebuild their shaders, the game's
- 6:56graphics code. They do it while you
- 6:57play, and a lot of frame drops right
- 6:59after an update come from that. With
- 7:01[music] this switch, the driver rebuilds
- 7:02them while your PC sits idle instead,
- 7:04and the text right under the switch says
- 7:06so. Still in global settings, click the
- 7:08button next to shader cache. Under
- 7:10automatic shader compilation, click on,
- 7:12then click apply. The switch now reads
- 7:14on. Your first games after your next
- 7:15driver switch should have fewer frame
- 7:17drops. I'd rather my PC does that work
- 7:19while I'm away than in the middle of a
- 7:20match. It uses your processor while the
- 7:22PC sits idle, so if the fans bother you,
- 7:25set it back to off. Next, the one for
- 7:26games like Doom, Minecraft, or Red Dead
- 7:29Redemption 2, where your worst drops
- 7:30probably get smaller. Same page, find
- 7:32Vulcan OpenGL present method and pick
- 7:35prefer layered on Agi swap chain. It
- 7:37sends those games to your screen the
- 7:39same way DirectX games do. Now the row
- 7:41shows prefer layered on HGI swap chain,
- 7:44not auto. This really should be the
- 7:45default. If one of those games drops
- 7:47more FPS after this, open that game in
- 7:49program settings and [music] set its
- 7:50present method to auto there. And last,
- 7:52less input lag with the switch recycled
- 7:54channels always get wrong. Low latency
- 7:56mode. It keeps fewer finished frames
- 7:58waiting in line, so what you do with
- 8:00your mouse probably shows up on screen
- 8:01sooner. Find low latency mode and set it
- 8:04to on, not ultra, on because ultra is
- 8:06the one those channels tell you to use,
- 8:08and it causes more problems than it
- 8:09fixes. The row now reads on instead of
- 8:12off. And if a game has its own reflex
- 8:14switch, I'd turn reflex on inside that
- 8:15game instead. You can now run whichever
- 8:17driver you picked with more FPS, smaller
- 8:20drops, and less input [music] lag. Drop
- 8:21a comment with the driver you're
- 8:22running, whether DLSS5 worked on it, and
- 8:25what broke since your last update.
