  1. 0:00So… apparently people actually like Breu?
  2. 0:05What… what the hell…?
  3. 0:07What the…
  4. 0:09W T F IS GOING ON???
  5. 0:11I’m not used to things working out this well…
  6. 0:14What happens next?
  7. 0:15Do I become famous?
  8. 0:17Do people start loving me??
  9. 0:19Do I have to start wearing  sunglasses inside the house??
  10. 0:23I DON’T KNOW…
  11. 0:24everything happened so fast.
  12. 0:29…I need to make a video about this.
  13. 0:35Dude, there’s so much  happening in my life right now.
  14. 0:38Bad things and good things…
  15. 0:40But starting this channel?
  16. 0:42That was definitely one of the good ones.
  17. 0:45You know, I’ve been trying to make a  living from art for a while now and…
  18. 0:50…the sad, cruel reality is that it’s really hard.
  19. 0:54Not everyone gets to turn the  thing they love into a career.
  20. 0:57And I think that’s a truth a lot of  artists eventually have to accept.
  21. 1:01But then I started watching my  videos reach thousands of people…
  22. 1:04sometimes hundreds of thousands… in  a ridiculously short amount of time.
  23. 1:09And then I started reading the comments.
  24. 1:11People saying they related to what I said…
  25. 1:14And honestly… I wasn’t expecting that.
  26. 1:17I got hit with this huge dose of hope that, if  I’m being real, I hadn’t felt in a long time.
  27. 1:24I couldn’t have been more warmly  welcomed by the animation community, so…
  28. 1:29thank you.
  29. 1:30But…
  30. 1:32let’s stop talking about  the good stuff for a second.
  31. 1:35This isn’t going to be like my other videos.
  32. 1:38This one is a bit more personal, because…
  33. 1:42I’ve been feeling like I needed  to get some things off my chest.
  34. 1:46So if you’ll let me, I’d like to open up a little…
  35. 1:49Because the truth is…
  36. 1:52I’M SO CONFUSED…
  37. 1:54I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO…
  38. 1:56MY CHANNEL IS ACTUALLY WORKING…
  39. 1:58AND THAT’S AMAZING…
  40. 1:59BUT AT THE SAME TIME…
  41. 2:01I FEEL LIKE I STARTED THIS  CHANNEL AT THE WORST TIME IN EVER
  42. 2:04BECAUSE YOUTUBE… IS A COMPLETE  DUMPSTER FIRE RIGHT NOW
  43. 2:09AND I’M SCARED… LIKE, REALLY SCARED OF MAKING SOME
  44. 2:13MISTAKE AND LOSING EVERYTHING I  BUILT IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS…
  45. 2:17Maybe you’ve noticed that  recently YouTube seems to
  46. 2:19be trying to kill some of the coolest  animation channels on the platform.
  47. 2:23For over a month now I’ve been watching  creators I love, like Honobread and Ringo,
  48. 2:29get demonetized for reasons  that make absolutely no sense.
  49. 2:32And what scares me the most is  that these aren’t small channels.
  50. 2:36They’re big. Established creators with huge  communities. And they still went through this.
  51. 2:42Thankfully they got their monetization back,
  52. 2:45but… if I’m being honest, that  only makes it more confusing.
  53. 2:49Because if this was really just a YouTube  mistake… why did it keep happening?
  54. 2:54AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!
  55. 2:56And then I started thinking…
  56. 2:57What about the small channels? HUH?
  57. 3:00What about the small animators?
  58. 3:02What happens to us?
  59. 3:03I’ve seen other creators with way less  reach going through similar situations,
  60. 3:08and some of them didn’t get the same happy ending.
  61. 3:11Apparently, what YouTube claims when they  drop the demonetization bomb is that these
  62. 3:16channels are being flagged for having “adult  content” in videos that supposedly target kids.
  63. 3:22And I know this is YouTube’s mistake,
  64. 3:25not mine… but still… it freaked me out.
  65. 3:30Because I opened my analytics and I saw THIS:
  66. 3:36Okay, lol, honestly I think this  must be broken or something because…
  67. 3:40HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT ZERO  WOMEN WATCHED MY VIDEO???
  68. 3:43Like… not a single one?!
  69. 3:46But this… this scares me.
  70. 3:50Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I  don’t want kids watching my videos.
  71. 3:53But before this turns into a giant mess for  me later, I need to make something very clear:
  72. 3:59I DO NOT MAKE CONTENT FOR KIDS, OKAY?
  73. 4:02When I upload a video I always  select 'No, it’s not made for kids.'
  74. 4:07Eventually I’m going to talk about heavier stuff…
  75. 4:11relationships, personal crises,
  76. 4:13feelings that might be a bit too  complex for a kid to understand…
  77. 4:18Oh! And swearing. There’s  gonna be some swearing too.
  78. 4:21And I’m saying this because…
  79. 4:23I was rushing to get my channel monetized  before YouTube changes its rules.
  80. 4:28And well… I think I actually made it.
  81. 4:31And I owe all of that to you guys.
  82. 4:34But now I’m more sure than ever that…
  83. 4:36getting monetized is not a guarantee of a  stable, sustainable income from this channel.
  84. 4:42Ringo herself said it in her video:
  85. 4:44(Ringo Tsuga): 'If you’re a fellow creator,
  86. 4:46take this as a lesson to not put  all your eggs into one basket.
  87. 4:48Try to grow on other platforms as well,
  88. 4:50find more ways to get sponsorships,  commissions or monetized elsewhere.
  89. 4:54Don’t let YouTube be the only  thing keeping you alive.'
  90. 4:57And she’s right.
  91. 4:58Imagine depending only on YouTube to pay your
  92. 5:00bills and then one day YouTube  just… decides not to pay you.
  93. 5:05WHAT DO YOU DO THEN??
  94. 5:06ROB A BANK??
  95. 5:07TAKE A LOAN FROM SOME SKETCHY GUY??
  96. 5:09So I don’t want Breu to depend  completely on ad revenue.
  97. 5:13I want to build a relationship with you guys  where I can be honest about this from the start.
  98. 5:19Remember when I said this in my first video?
  99. 5:22“The thing is…
  100. 5:24I WANT MONEY
  101. 5:25that’s it.”
  102. 5:26Yeah… it was a punchline.
  103. 5:28But it was also true.
  104. 5:30I would love to say it’s possible  to make art purely out of love.
  105. 5:34But… that’s not really how life works.
  106. 5:38We have bills, we need to buy food.
  107. 5:40And while Breu is still growing,
  108. 5:42I’m genuinely going to need a little  help to keep this thing running.
  109. 5:46The fact that some people found  my Ko-fi before I even properly
  110. 5:49promoted it still leaves me kind of speechless.
  111. 5:53I didn’t even ask.
  112. 5:54You guys just found it.
  113. 5:56And some of you decided to support me anyway.
  114. 5:59So, if you want to and if you’re able to  invest in this channel, support me on Ko-fi!
  115. 6:04— Please… I need to buy food for Hannah.
  116. 6:06— What do you mean?
  117. 6:07— She’s a very expensive woman.
  118. 6:09— What? YOU ARE the one who spends the  entire month blowing money on… AAAHH!
  119. 6:14I would be eternally grateful!
  120. 6:15The Ko-fi link will be in the  description and in the pinned comment.
  121. 6:20So… I guess that’s it.
  122. 6:23Making these videos… is a ton  of work, I’m not gonna lie.
  123. 6:27I pulled several all-nighters  to finish them this fast.
  124. 6:31But reading your comments… made it all worth it.
  125. 6:34I really hope that this time I can  actually make a living from my art.
  126. 6:38Thank you for giving me a chance.
