  110. 7:49robot is wrong young people speak in
  111. 7:54their mind I didn't do so much
  112. 7:58resistance call me the Supreme Court
  113. 8:24unanimously ruled that Nixon must
  114. 8:26release the tapes in the United States
  115. 8:27be Richard am Nixon almost immediately
  116. 8:30the process for impeachment begins years
  117. 8:35in jail if today's Nixon becomes the
  118. 8:39first president in history to resign
  119. 8:41from office this is a very subtle time
  120. 8:44I've spoken to you from those office
  121. 8:46where so many decisions have been made
  122. 8:47to shape the history of this nation each
  123. 8:50time I have done so to discuss with you
  124. 8:52some matter I believe back in the
  125. 8:54national interest and all of those
  126. 8:56visions that I have made my public life
  127. 8:58I've always tried to do what was best in
  128. 9:00the nation throughout the long and
  129. 9:02difficult period of Watergate I felt was
  130. 9:05my duty to preserve and to make every
  131. 9:08possible effort to complete the term of
  132. 9:09office to which you elected me in the
  133. 9:12past few days however has become heaven
  134. 9:14to me and I no longer had a strong
  135. 9:16enough political base in the Congress to
  136. 9:18justify continuing that effort as long
  137. 9:21as there was such a base I felt strongly
  138. 9:23it was necessary to see the
  139. 9:25constitutional process bridge was
  140. 9:27concluded that to do otherwise would be
  141. 9:30unfaithful to the spirit of that
  142. 9:32deliberately difficult process the
  143. 9:34dangerously destabilizing precedent for
  144. 9:36the future
  145. 9:37the disappearance of that date I now
  146. 9:40believe that the constitutional Birdman
  147. 9:42has been served and there's no longer
  148. 9:44need for the process be prolonged I were
  149. 9:47preferred to carry grease to finish
  150. 9:49whatever personal agony it would have
  151. 9:51involved and my family you Nancy urged
  152. 9:54me to do so but the interest of the
  153. 9:56nation must always come before any
  154. 9:58personal considerations from discussions
  155. 10:01I've had with congressional and other
  156. 10:03leaders I have concluded that because of
  157. 10:05the Watergate matter I might not have
  158. 10:07the support of the Congress that I would
  159. 10:09concern necessary to bad with very
  160. 10:11difficult decisions and carry out the
  161. 10:13duties of this office and the way the
  162. 10:16interests of the nation would require I
  163. 10:18have never met a quitter to leave office
  164. 10:21before my term is completed is abhorrent
  165. 10:23to every instinct in my body but as
  166. 10:26president I must put the interests of
  167. 10:28America first America needs a full-time
  168. 10:30president and a full-time Congress
  169. 10:33particularly at this time with problems
  170. 10:36we face at home and abroad to continue
  171. 10:39to fight through the months ahead from
  172. 10:42my personal vindication would almost
  173. 10:44totally absorb the time and attention of
  174. 10:46both the president and the Congress a
  175. 10:48period when our entire focus to being
  176. 10:50the great issues of peace abroad and
  177. 10:52prosperity without inflation at home
  178. 10:54therefore I shall resign the presidency
  179. 10:58effective at noon tomorrow
  180. 11:01Nihal god bless good
  181. 11:12if you write love you have faith in God
  182. 11:18[Music]
  183. 11:24you believe in rock and roll and music
  184. 11:29save your mortal soul and can you teach
  185. 11:33me how to dance
  186. 11:34[Music]
  187. 11:37well I know that you're in love with him
  188. 11:41cause I saw you dancing in the gym you
  189. 11:45both keep dogs you teenage rock and
  190. 11:55boxes will please carnation and a pickup
  191. 11:58truck but I knew I knew the day
  192. 12:04[Music]
