  1. 0:00hey youtube welcome back to my channel
  2. 0:03if you're new around here my name is

  4. 0:07writing
  5. 0:07true crime and the lifestyle today we're
  6. 0:10doing another true crime episode here on
  7. 0:13my youtube channel
  8. 0:14and this one is really interesting it's
  9. 0:17actually an
  10. 0:18attempted murder case and i love
  11. 0:20covering attempted murder cases
  12. 0:22because not only are they always a bad
  13. 0:24[ __ ] crazy
  14. 0:26but the victim survives which is really
  15. 0:28refreshing
  16. 0:29and just nice to see so that is what
  17. 0:32we're doing today
  18. 0:33and if you're interested then please
  19. 0:35keep watching
  20. 0:38so this case happened in october 2015
  21. 0:42so it's pretty recent but it's become
  22. 0:46pretty popular in the media lately
  23. 0:48because of a book that is coming out on
  24. 0:51august 6th
  25. 0:52written by the survivor called i
  26. 0:54survived so
  27. 0:55this is 44 year old victoria clyres
  28. 0:59she is from amisbury whitshire which is
  29. 1:01in england
  30. 1:02and she works as an army physiotherapist
  31. 1:05so victoria is a really adventurous
  32. 1:07person and
  33. 1:08one of her favorite hobbies is skydiving
  34. 1:11which i
  35. 1:12can't personally imagine but she really
  36. 1:15loves it and as of 2015 she completed
  37. 1:19over
  38. 1:202600 successful jumps
  39. 1:23so she was not a newbie she really
  40. 1:26was into skydiving and she knew what she
  41. 1:28was doing
  42. 1:29and this is victoria's husband emil
  43. 1:32cliers
  44. 1:33the pair met in 2009 after meeting at an
  45. 1:36army base
  46. 1:36and they quickly fell in love she was
  47. 1:39swept off her feet
  48. 1:40and they later married in 2011. the
  49. 1:43couple has
  50. 1:44two young children together april and
  51. 1:47ben
  52. 1:47and from the outside looking in this
  53. 1:50perfect little english
  54. 1:52nuclear family had everything going for
  55. 1:54them
  56. 1:55and they had everything they could ever
  57. 1:57possibly want
  58. 1:58in life but unfortunately this was
  59. 2:01not the case by 2015 so just a few years
  60. 2:05after the couple had been married they
  61. 2:08have started to experience some
  62. 2:10pretty severe marital problems and this
  63. 2:13wasn't mainly because
  64. 2:14of emile who was a piece of [ __ ]
  65. 2:18so emile was a serial cheater and had
  66. 2:21multiple affairs during his marriage
  67. 2:24with victoria
  68. 2:25he also had a pretty bad spending
  69. 2:28problem
  70. 2:28and he would constantly lie to victoria
  71. 2:31about all of the money that was
  72. 2:33mysteriously disappearing from her bank
  73. 2:36accounts
  74. 2:37now despite his two young children april
  75. 2:40and ben
  76. 2:41who were aged one and three at the time
  77. 2:44emile was constantly leaving on
  78. 2:46work trips and by work trips i of course
  79. 2:49mean that he would go and meet up with
  80. 2:52his
  81. 2:53various mistresses so understandably
  82. 2:56the stress of the meals cheating and the
  83. 2:58stress of emile's spending problem
  84. 3:01really started to take its toll on
  85. 3:03victoria
  86. 3:04and because of all of this emil and
  87. 3:06victoria's relationship
  88. 3:08was actually teetering on the edge of
  89. 3:11divorce
  90. 3:12but victoria was still in love with
  91. 3:14emile and
  92. 3:15she really wanted to make things work
  93. 3:17and in fact she was determined to make
  94. 3:20things work
  95. 3:21so like i said one of victoria's
  96. 3:23favorite pastimes
  97. 3:24was skydiving and that is exactly what
  98. 3:28she was doing on easter sunday in 2015
  99. 3:31and
  100. 3:32she was skydiving over the salisbury
  101. 3:34plains
  102. 3:35which looks like a pretty popular area
  103. 3:38for skydive enthusiasts
  104. 3:40so the skydiving plan was actually a
  105. 3:43meals idea
  106. 3:44and he suggested that he bring along
  107. 3:47their three-year-old daughter april
  108. 3:49so the family could enjoy some you know
  109. 3:51bonding time together
  110. 3:53now victoria was really happy that emil
  111. 3:56suggested that they all go skydiving
  112. 3:58together
  113. 3:59she was really looking forward to
  114. 4:01spending quality time
  115. 4:02with her eldest daughter and her husband
  116. 4:05and
  117. 4:06it was a chance to repair their
  118. 4:08relationship
  119. 4:09and she was actually really looking
  120. 4:11forward to the weekend
  121. 4:12so like i said victoria had completed
  122. 4:15over 2 600
  123. 4:17jumps by 2015 and right before
  124. 4:21she had to go up in the plane for her
  125. 4:23session
  126. 4:24emil conveniently offered to take their
  127. 4:27three-year-old
  128. 4:28daughter april to the bathroom and he
  129. 4:30was actually
  130. 4:31carrying victoria's parachute for her
  131. 4:34as like a doting husband that's carrying
  132. 4:37this heavy bag for his wife sort of
  133. 4:39thing
  134. 4:39so he ended up taking this parachute
  135. 4:42that he was carrying
  136. 4:44into the bathroom along with her
  137. 4:45daughter april and
  138. 4:47when he returned from the bathroom with
  139. 4:49april he handed victoria her parachute
  140. 4:52and she was on her way so victoria began
  141. 4:55the jump like normal but
  142. 4:57terrifyingly when she ended up jumping
  143. 4:59out of the plane
  144. 5:00she discovered that her parachute
  145. 5:03wouldn't open
  146. 5:04and neither would the backup parachute
  147. 5:07and
  148. 5:07i cannot imagine the terror that
  149. 5:10victoria felt
  150. 5:11as she plunged to the ground it honestly
  151. 5:15would
  152. 5:16keep me up at night i don't even like
  153. 5:17heights to begin with
  154. 5:19so i can't imagine what she was feeling
  155. 5:22while she was falling now
  156. 5:24victoria was an experienced jumper
  157. 5:27so as she was falling this badass lady
  158. 5:30actually tried to untwist the lines in
  159. 5:34her parachute
  160. 5:35so it would hopefully slow her descent
  161. 5:39but unfortunately even with untwisting
  162. 5:41her lines
  163. 5:42this was unable to slow her fall so
  164. 5:45victoria ended up falling 3 000 feet to
  165. 5:49the ground
  166. 5:49and she landed in a soft field that had
  167. 5:53recently been plowed so i guess the
  168. 5:55grass was
  169. 5:56extra soft so the people running at the
  170. 5:59skydiving session
  171. 6:00honestly expected to find victoria's
  172. 6:03dead body in the field
  173. 6:05but miraculously she was still alive
  174. 6:08so victoria was rushed to the hospital
  175. 6:10where she sustained some pretty serious
  176. 6:13injuries
  177. 6:14so victoria had broken her pelvis her
  178. 6:17ribs
  179. 6:18had fractured her spine in four
  180. 6:20different places
  181. 6:21and had a collapsed lung so this poor
  182. 6:24woman was in
  183. 6:25a lot of pain and all the doctors at the
  184. 6:28hospital were just
  185. 6:30amazed that victoria survived and they
  186. 6:33ended up telling her that the only
  187. 6:35reason
  188. 6:35she survived was the fact that she
  189. 6:38landed in that soft grassy field
  190. 6:41and that she had a small body weight so
  191. 6:44there was pretty much a one in a million
  192. 6:47chance
  193. 6:47that victoria could have survived and
  194. 6:50the fact that she did
  195. 6:51is so amazing just imagine those odds a
  196. 6:55one in a million chance
  197. 6:57of possibly landing in that soft grass
  198. 7:00so victoria was very very lucky to be
  199. 7:04alive
  200. 7:04and even though victoria survived her
  201. 7:08road to recovery was extremely painful
  202. 7:11and it was a long one and you have to
  203. 7:14remember
  204. 7:14that she had a one-year-old son and a
  205. 7:17three-year-old daughter at this time
  206. 7:19so it was very difficult to balance
  207. 7:22child care and also
  208. 7:23recovering and during her three-week
  209. 7:26stay
  210. 7:27in the hospital recovering emile
  211. 7:30acted incredibly cold and unsympathetic
  212. 7:34towards victoria almost as if he was
  213. 7:37inconvenienced that his wife had this
  214. 7:40terrible accident
  215. 7:41and after a while emile actually stopped
  216. 7:45visiting victoria at the hospital
  217. 7:47altogether
  218. 7:48and barely spoke to her when he finally
  219. 7:50did
  220. 7:51pick her up to drive her home and once
  221. 7:54she finally got home victoria decided
  222. 7:58to really focus on building her strength
  223. 8:02and
  224. 8:02fixing her body like i said she was a
  225. 8:05physiotherapist
  226. 8:07so she had all of the knowledge and the
  227. 8:09skills
  228. 8:10to be able to do this and she worked
  229. 8:13hard on herself
  230. 8:15four months and i'm sure she was in a
  231. 8:18lot of pain
  232. 8:18and i'm sure it was very frustrating but
  233. 8:21in the end her efforts paid off
  234. 8:23and she was actually able to walk just a
  235. 8:26few weeks after the accident
  236. 8:28and as victoria healed and slowly got
  237. 8:32stronger and stronger
  238. 8:34her life with emile actually went back
  239. 8:36to normal for a little while or
  240. 8:39as normal as could be and victoria
  241. 8:42started to fall back into her regular
  242. 8:44routine
  243. 8:45and tried to move on from the horrific
  244. 8:48accident that was until a few months
  245. 8:51later
  246. 8:52when the british parachute association
  247. 8:55showed up at victoria's house in
  248. 8:57amisbury
  249. 8:59and told her that they were launching an
  250. 9:01investigation
  251. 9:02into her fall they had discovered that
  252. 9:05there were
  253. 9:06slings missing from her parachute and
  254. 9:09slinks are the essential part of the
  255. 9:11parachute that attaches the harness
  256. 9:14to the actual parachute itself so
  257. 9:16without them
  258. 9:17you don't really stand a chance at
  259. 9:20surviving your fall
  260. 9:21now victoria was understandably shocked
  261. 9:24by this information
  262. 9:26and the british parachute association
  263. 9:29actually contacted the local police
  264. 9:31who opened up a proper investigation now
  265. 9:34i'm sure you can guess who exactly
  266. 9:37removed
  267. 9:38victoria's slinks from her parachute and
  268. 9:41that was her husband emile clyres and if
  269. 9:44you remember he
  270. 9:45actually spent some time alone with her
  271. 9:48parachute
  272. 9:49when he took their daughter april to the
  273. 9:52bathroom
  274. 9:52now this was clearly planned emil
  275. 9:55had put a lot of thought into this if
  276. 9:58you remember
  277. 9:59he was the one to actually suggest that
  278. 10:02they go skydiving in the first place
  279. 10:04and he was alone with victoria's
  280. 10:07parachute
  281. 10:08when he took their three-year-old
  282. 10:10daughter april to the bathroom
  283. 10:12so i'm not really sure what emil
  284. 10:14expected to happen
  285. 10:16it's pretty obvious that he would be
  286. 10:19the prime suspect for the police
  287. 10:22and a few weeks later the police
  288. 10:24arrested him
  289. 10:25on attempted murder charges and at first
  290. 10:28victoria really didn't believe that emil
  291. 10:31would actually try and kill her
  292. 10:34but the more she thought about it the
  293. 10:36more she began to
  294. 10:37put the pieces together she thought
  295. 10:40about how
  296. 10:41he was alone with her parachute and
  297. 10:44especially
  298. 10:44how he acted so cold and unsympathetic
  299. 10:48towards her in the hospital
  300. 10:50almost as if she was a burden and
  301. 10:53victoria's belief was further proven
  302. 10:56when the police actually uncovered
  303. 10:59dozens of pictures and text messages
  304. 11:02sent between emil and his girlfriend
  305. 11:05stephanie gullar
  306. 11:06and he actually met stephanie through
  307. 11:08tinder and they've been seeing each
  308. 11:10other for
  309. 11:11quite a while reportedly emile was
  310. 11:14actually with stephanie
  311. 11:15during the first few days of his son's
  312. 11:18ben's life and everything emil told
  313. 11:21stephanie
  314. 11:22was pretty much a flat out lie he had
  315. 11:25told
  316. 11:26stephanie that victoria had been
  317. 11:28cheating on him for
  318. 11:29quite a while and that their marriage
  319. 11:32was pretty much over
  320. 11:33he even went as far as to tell her that
  321. 11:37his son ben
  322. 11:38wasn't his biological son so stephanie
  323. 11:41pretty much
  324. 11:42knew nothing about the real emil
  325. 11:45and i honestly feel a little bit sorry
  326. 11:48for her i can't
  327. 11:49imagine the shock that she must have
  328. 11:51felt when she
  329. 11:52discovered all of this information so
  330. 11:55emile's trial began
  331. 11:56in october of 2017 and
  332. 12:00during the trial some more shocking
  333. 12:02information
  334. 12:03came out it was revealed that just one
  335. 12:05week before
  336. 12:06victoria's parachute accident emil
  337. 12:10had actually tampered with the gas in
  338. 12:12their kitchen
  339. 12:13and had tried to cause a fatal gas leak
  340. 12:17to create an explosion in an attempt to
  341. 12:21kill
  342. 12:21victoria and the most disturbing part
  343. 12:24about this
  344. 12:24was his children ben and april they were
  345. 12:28actually inside the house
  346. 12:29with their mother at this time and this
  347. 12:31gas leak explosion plan
  348. 12:34didn't end up working out so that is
  349. 12:36when emil hatched the plan
  350. 12:38to tamper with victoria's parachute and
  351. 12:42try to kill her in that way so during
  352. 12:44the trial the motive
  353. 12:46for emile's attempted murder was also
  354. 12:49revealed emile had a spending problem
  355. 12:51and he was actually 22 a thousand pounds
  356. 12:55in debt and if victoria passed away
  357. 12:58he would have received a hundred and
  358. 13:00twenty thousand dollars
  359. 13:02from her life insurance policy and emile
  360. 13:05wanted to
  361. 13:06take this money from his wife's death
  362. 13:09and
  363. 13:09run off with his girlfriend stephanie
  364. 13:12and start a family together
  365. 13:13and when he was put on the stand emil
  366. 13:17of course denied everything just like a
  367. 13:19coward would
  368. 13:20but of course the jury saw right through
  369. 13:23him
  370. 13:24and the judge ended up sentencing him to
  371. 13:2718 years minimum in prison
  372. 13:30so emile continued to be a little [ __ ]
  373. 13:33even after he went to prison
  374. 13:35and he constantly bombarded victoria
  375. 13:37with
  376. 13:38texts and calls and letters he somehow
  377. 13:41believed that his marriage wasn't
  378. 13:43over even though he tried to kill her
  379. 13:45and wanted to
  380. 13:46get her back emile's desperate attempt
  381. 13:49to
  382. 13:50try and win victoria back i'm sure
  383. 13:53was partly due to the fact that
  384. 13:55everybody
  385. 13:56in his life had dropped him once his
  386. 13:59shocking crimes were revealed and no one
  387. 14:02in his family or his friends
  388. 14:04really wanted anything to do with him
  389. 14:07and he really had no one left
  390. 14:09except for victoria ironically the wife
  391. 14:12he had tried to kill
  392. 14:14not once but twice and victoria did not
  393. 14:17stand for this
  394. 14:18and in 2018 she signed for
  395. 14:22divorce and cut a meal out of her will
  396. 14:25and shockingly emil actually has
  397. 14:28refused to sign the divorce papers
  398. 14:31and as of filming this video they are
  399. 14:34still
  400. 14:35legally married and the victoria has
  401. 14:37written a book called i survived
  402. 14:40which will be released on august 6th
  403. 14:43so in addition to the book a documentary
  404. 14:46and
  405. 14:47multiple interviews have been done on
  406. 14:50victoria
  407. 14:50and her crazy incredible survival story
  408. 14:54and i think that is really amazing that
  409. 14:56she gets to
  410. 14:57share her story and her resilience with
  411. 15:00the world victoria has been really vocal
  412. 15:02with her experience with all of the
  413. 15:04documentaries and interviews and the
  414. 15:06book she wrote
  415. 15:08and it is her hope that emil actually
  416. 15:10gets
  417. 15:11deported back to south africa where he
  418. 15:14is from
  419. 15:14when they are officially divorced and
  420. 15:17thankfully
  421. 15:18this case has somewhat of a happy ending
  422. 15:21which i love to hear while obviously
  423. 15:24still
  424. 15:24deeply traumatized and hurt by
  425. 15:28emile victoria really has tried to move
  426. 15:31on with her life and put this
  427. 15:33whole experience behind her and she
  428. 15:35actually has begun
  429. 15:37seeing a new man in her life who is
  430. 15:40really active and involved with her kids
  431. 15:43she still works
  432. 15:44as an army physiotherapist and actually
  433. 15:47obtained her master's degree in
  434. 15:50physiotherapy
  435. 15:51and victoria is raising both of her
  436. 15:53children april and
  437. 15:55ben single-handedly and she has decided
  438. 15:58that they have a right to know
  439. 16:00about what their father has done in
  440. 16:03due time but i think the most incredible
  441. 16:06thing
  442. 16:06about victoria is how she didn't let
  443. 16:09emile
  444. 16:10ruin her passion for skydiving
  445. 16:13so in october 2018 nearly three years to
  446. 16:17the day
  447. 16:17since her accident victoria actually
  448. 16:20went
  449. 16:20skydiving again and she of course had a
  450. 16:24successful jump
  451. 16:25and she was greeted on the ground by her
  452. 16:28two
  453. 16:28young children and being able to
  454. 16:32let go of that terrible experience
  455. 16:35and be able to skydive again
  456. 16:38must have been so healing and
  457. 16:40therapeutic for
  458. 16:41victoria and i really applaud her in
  459. 16:45her efforts to really work through her
  460. 16:47trauma
  461. 16:48and not let something that she loved
  462. 16:51you know fade away just because she had
  463. 16:53a terrible terrible experience
  464. 16:55so that is everything for this case it
  465. 16:58is a really crazy one
  466. 17:00and i love how it had a happy ending and
  467. 17:04i hope victoria is
  468. 17:05doing well and i am so thankful that
