11. 0:32she is still exceptionally lame and as
12. 0:34you can see
13. 0:35she's probably getting worse by the day
14. 0:38so it's our job to make her as
15. 0:40comfortable as possible
16. 0:41and to attempt to fix her
17. 0:44she has a very serious case of toe
18. 0:47necrosis
19. 0:48which basically means the bone inside
20. 0:50that outer digit the right hand one on
21. 0:52the screen
22. 0:53is decaying away it's dying inside her
23. 0:56foot itself
24. 0:57considering what you can see on the
25. 0:58screen right now it may be surprising to
26. 1:00you to learn that actually
27. 1:02it's quite a bit worse than it first
28. 1:05looks

31. 1:11inner claw ready to apply a block
32. 1:13and making sure that it's perfectly flat
33. 1:15and perfectly dry
34. 1:16so that the blocks that we stick in
35. 1:18place stick around for the long haul

38. 1:32blood is dripping from the open and
39. 1:34exposed flesh

54. 2:06that area to bleed
55. 2:07because of the sharp and jagged horn
56. 2:09round about the lesion
57. 2:10sticking into the exposed flesh so by
58. 2:13removing those hard
59. 2:15ragged and sharp edges from around the
60. 2:17exposed tissue
61. 2:18we should stop the area from being
62. 2:20insulted
63. 2:21constantly by those hard pieces of who
64. 2:24form
65. 2:25and therefore stop the ongoing pain
66. 2:36it is so important not to cut into that
67. 2:39flesh
68. 2:41you guys saw that when i lifted it up it
69. 2:43was already bleeding
70. 2:45because there's proud flesh showing
71. 2:46through
72. 2:48and hitting the ground every time she
73. 2:50walks i'm trimming with my knife facing
74. 2:52away from the open legion an attempt to
75. 2:55try not to insult it further
76. 2:57but obviously we are touching something
77. 2:59that is incredibly painful
78. 3:01and an open lesion so blood is
79. 3:03inevitable it's not about fixing this
80. 3:05for this car
81. 3:06because we can't it's about making it as
82. 3:09comfortable as possible and hopefully
83. 3:11beginning the healing process if it can
84. 3:14at all

129. 4:42she's probably getting pins and nails
130. 4:48watching this back makes me wince at the
131. 4:50pain this car must be in
132. 4:52but she's being a real trooper and she
133. 4:54is barely moving a muscle while she's in
134. 4:56the crush
135. 4:57i'm now taking down the heel height as
136. 4:59much as i possibly can
137. 5:00just in case the blocks actually fall
138. 5:02off and she'll still have some relief
139. 5:07it might sound silly to say that i'm not
140. 5:09trying to fix this cow's food
141. 5:10but the reason i'm saying it is i don't
142. 5:12think it's fixable in scenarios like
143. 5:14this
144. 5:15the best idea or option is sometimes for
145. 5:17the vet to amputate the digit
146. 5:19so that there's no pain in this and she
147. 5:21could walk perfectly well with just one
148. 5:23remaining digit
149. 5:24as it is it is extremely unlikely
150. 5:27that this guy will ever recover from
151. 5:28such a massive problem with her foot
152. 5:31i've definitely not finished with this
153. 5:33trim yet but i apply iodine to the area
154. 5:36so that it has as much chance as
155. 5:37possible
156. 5:38to sink into that proud flesh and
157. 5:40shrivel it up
158. 5:42and then we move on to the dorsal wall
159. 5:44and it may look like this
160. 5:46is still attached but look more closely
161. 5:48and you'll see tracts
162. 5:49right up behind that dorsal wall
163. 6:08if a vet was to attend this cow they
164. 6:10could use surgical intervention to
165. 6:12remove
166. 6:13all of that proud flesh and then she
167. 6:16truly would be on
168. 6:17the road to recovery but i am not of it
169. 6:19i am not
170. 6:20allowed to cut into live tissue which is
171. 6:22why i'm trying to be as careful as
172. 6:24possible
173. 6:25to only remove the detached horn
174. 6:32this case of tone necrosis has most
175. 6:34likely come about by some sort of crack
176. 6:37or hole
177. 6:38into the hoof capsule which is then
178. 6:39allowed infection or digital dermatitis
179. 6:42to gain access to the blood supply and
180. 6:45ultimately the pedal bone
181. 6:47that's led to its death and its decay
182. 6:49which is why we're seeing this huge
183. 6:51open cavity in the bottom of our foot
184. 6:57now we have not fixed this car i'm not
185. 6:59under any illusions
186. 7:00that this is going to heal especially
187. 7:02not overnight but we should have made
188. 7:04her
189. 7:04much more comfortable so obviously you
190. 7:06never saw her walking in the crash but
191. 7:08i'm pretty sure you can imagine how she
192. 7:09walked in
193. 7:10well as he walked in she hopped
194. 7:19i'm not going to say she's walking well
195. 7:21but look she can put her foot on the
196. 7:22ground
197. 7:24for me at this stage this is mission

201. 7:31and the affected digit the outside one
202. 7:33isn't even touching the ground
203. 7:35so she's going to be far more
204. 7:36comfortable she's clearly still got a
205. 7:38very strong limp
