5. 0:09answer many of your questions about
6. 0:11aftercare. Please kindly purchase the
7. 0:13Fucidin cream today on your way home.
8. 0:16You will find the prescription in your
9. 0:18aftercare pack. If you cannot purchase
10. 0:20this today, do not worry.
11. 0:23Try the next day.
12. 0:25Once you get home, check that your child
13. 0:27has done a wet nappy.
14. 0:29If yes,
15. 0:30please remove the white gauze covering
16. 0:32the penis.
17. 0:33There is no need to replace this.
18. 0:36Start using the Fucidin cream from the
19. 0:38first nappy change and apply every 8
20. 0:40hours thereafter, three times a day,
21. 0:42until the ring falls off completely.
22. 0:46Application of Fucidin.
23. 0:48The Fucidin cream should be applied
24. 0:50around the ring and on top of the tip of
25. 0:52the penis.
26. 0:53After the first application of Fucidin,
27. 0:56wait 8 hours until the next application
28. 0:59of Fucidin cream. Continue 8-hourly
29. 1:01thereafter. In between the 8 hours,
30. 1:04every time you change the nappy, clean
31. 1:06his penis with wet wipes and smear some
32. 1:09petroleum jelly or olive oil on the
33. 1:11penis.
34. 1:12Apply petroleum jelly or olive oil for
35. 1:14all nappy changes between the 8 hours.
36. 1:17Once 8 hours has elapsed, please clean
37. 1:19the penis with wet wipes and apply
38. 1:21Fucidin cream again.
39. 1:23Never use Fucidin cream and petroleum
40. 1:25jelly at the same time. Pain control or
41. 1:28analgesia. Most babies will not need
42. 1:30analgesia. They will usually settle down
43. 1:33after 24 to 48 hours.
44. 1:36If your child is more than 8 weeks old,
45. 1:38you may use Calpol until he settles
46. 1:40down.
47. 1:41If your baby is less than 8 weeks old,
48. 1:44please feed him whenever he is crying.
49. 1:46This will help settle him down.
50. 1:49Saltwater baths.
51. 1:51It is important to start saltwater baths
52. 1:53from the day after the circumcision.
53. 1:56Please use the baby bath filled with
54. 1:58lukewarm water and add 2 Tbsp of normal
55. 2:02salt.
56. 2:03Make sure that the salt has been
57. 2:05completely dissolved in the water.
58. 2:08Sit your child in the bathwater and
59. 2:10support him.
60. 2:12The water should reach the belly button.
61. 2:14Keep him soaking in the water for 10 to
62. 2:1715 minutes.
63. 2:19Continue to bathe your baby once or
64. 2:21twice a day, every day, until the ring
65. 2:24comes off.
66. 2:25Then you may give him baths as per
67. 2:28normal routine.
68. 2:30Complete healing.
69. 2:32Once the ring has come off, it will take
70. 2:34another 7 to 14 days for complete
71. 2:36healing and for the area to become dry.
72. 2:39Please do not be alarmed if the area
73. 2:41looks swollen, red, or has yellow
74. 2:44deposits. These are all normal signs of
75. 2:46healing. After 7 to 14 days, the area
76. 2:49will dry out and leave a normal-looking
77. 2:52circumcised penis.
78. 2:54Buried penis.
79. 2:56Buried penis, or hidden penis, is a
80. 2:59common condition and affects 10% of
81. 3:01babies. We will only carry out
82. 3:03circumcisions in mild or moderate cases
83. 3:06of buried penis.
84. 3:08If the condition is severe, it is better
85. 3:10to wait until the child is older.
86. 3:12Once circumcision has been carried out
87. 3:14for mild or moderate cases, please
88. 3:17follow some extra aftercare.
89. 3:20Once the ring has fallen off, wait
90. 3:22another 3 to 5 days, then push the shaft
91. 3:25skin back after every nappy change,
92. 3:28ensuring the head is completely exposed,
93. 3:31and then apply petroleum jelly around
94. 3:33the groove of the penis.
95. 3:35Do this for at least 6 months. In some
96. 3:37cases, you may need to do this for
97. 3:39longer periods of time.
98. 3:41If you are unsure about how to do this,

101. 3:49It is very important to follow the
102. 3:51aftercare advice.
103. 3:53Do not be afraid or timid to push the
104. 3:55shaft skin back and apply petroleum
105. 3:57jelly.
106. 3:58Failure to expose the head of the penis
107. 4:00and the groove between the inner skin
108. 4:02and the head may result in adhesions
109. 4:05forming.
110. 4:06If this happens, please contact the
111. 4:08clinic to make an appointment. The
112. 4:10doctor will separate the adhesions
113. 4:12within 30 seconds.
114. 4:14It is important to continue keeping the
115. 4:16inner skin from attaching to the head by
116. 4:18pushing the shaft skin and applying

118. 4:23In rare instances, there may be stenosis
119. 4:25or scarring as a complication of buried
